She has awful hand writing and it's very hard to understand her. Gives very easy practice tests that are nothing like actual tests
Her writing is completely unreadable and she uses tons of a abbreviations without explaining what they are or what they mean. The lectures are long as hell and almost useless with how confusing she is. Luckily at the end of the day it's just Eco 1 so you can teach yourself most of the material
She is a very confusing lecturer and often gets side tracked. Her tests are very difficult and her handwriting is extremely difficult to read. If you are easily distracted by a very attractive professor avoid this class.
Awful handwriting. Uses too many abbreviations that confuse people. Practice tests are nothing like the exams which are much harder. Very tough grader and will deduct points for the smallest mistakes
Her practice tests are much easier than her tests. I can't read her handwriting most of the time. And it seems like she doesn't understand Econ.
Her handwriting is very difficult to understand, and she uses abbreviations that she fails to explain. She often contradicts herself, which makes it challenging to grasp the concepts. She neither explains the concepts accurately nor thoroughly. I only learned the material through reading the textbook. She also assigns a lot of homework at times.
Can't read what she wrote
Took this Professor for Eco 1 and the class was not very hard at all. Sit in the front of the lecture so you can read her hand writing. Was able to doze off in class and still got an A. She's confuses herself sometimes but you should easily know what she actually means. Try to helps students a lot. Predictable exams, but nothing like practice test.
Eco 001 is a perky standard class. Going to class is recommended but attendance is only taken at recitation. Mariah is willing to help all her students if she sees you putting in the effort. Probably my favorite professor during my first semester. As long as you put in a fair share of work and show you want to learn, the class will not be too dif
Marija is so nice but is not a great teacher because of her accent/handwriting. She is a little bit hard to follow but if you understand the material you will do B range on the exams. Homework counts a lot and can definitely help your grade!
She is very nice and although her hand-writing is bad, she recognizes this and makes powerpoint slides for all to use- thus if you miss something during lecture, never have to worry. Her explanations are good in class but she is much better if you go to her in office hours. She cares about your success and will help you out if you put the work in.
Marija is a really nice person and genuinely cares about her students. All lecture material is easily accessible online, which makes it so much easier to study for this class and compensate for missed class time. The first two exams (four o'clocks) are much easier than the final exam. I didn't find her slight accent or handwriting a problem.
Marija is a very nice professor. She does her best to be accessible to all her students even with a large class size. Her 4 o clocks are not super difficult if you study the notes and hw and attend recitation. The final is difficult but she gives a very good curve. Her handwriting and accent didn't bother me or hold me back. Would recommend.
Honestly she's not that bad. Her hand writing can get a little bad, but her accent is not at all hard to understand. She posts her lectures online anyway so if you really can't read cursive you can just look there. It's a pretty basic course, so I can't imagine why anyone would fail.
Her accent isn't hard to understand and neither is her handwriting. Also, it doesn't matter because she posts slides on coursesite and those are basically all you need to get an A. She's really nice and funny. Show up to class because she gives attendance quizzes often but she usually lets everyone leave early so it's not that bad.
Spend many hours on her non-sense homework is such a waste of time. Her lecture is not helpful at all. She doesn't know what she is talking about.
brings a sense of humor into class, cares about seeing her students succeed, very helpful during office hours
Marija is a good professor and has an interesting sense of humor. She often uses real life analogies to explain concepts. If you have never studied or been exposed to micro and macro economics then reading the textbook and doing practice outside of recitation is a must to get a decent grade.
Seriously not a good professor. Very scatterbrained and students correct her on mathematical errors so often, that its too confusing to follow her math. You're better off reading the textbook after lecture to clarify the confusing garbage you just sat through. The textbook for this class is fantastic, so rely on that.
Can't do math, lectures confuse more than they help. I wish I'd waited on taking macro so I could have a real professor teach. She doesn't even have a PhD in econ!
Marija was an okay professor. She was always open for office hours and helped her students out alot. She cares for students to do well but her lectures are AWFUL. All she does is ramble on without anyone ever understanding anything. Recitations are very helpful for this class though. One 50 minute recitation equated to 2 x 75 minute lectures
I VERY MUCH enjoyed Marija's class! She is not condescending to students like many professors are. Her class is purely lectures, but she keeps it interesting with stories and jokes. I looked forward to going to class. She also is very helpful in re-explaining things one-on-one, and she provides an option for extra credit. Her exams are fair.
She is such a kind-hearted person who loves teaching. She lectures with enthusiasm and really tires to make sure every student succeeds and passes. Super helpful in office hours and as long as you show up and pay attention in class you're fine!
Lectures were very long and not interesting. She graded the exams too hard.
Her lectures are not at all interesting. You go for an hour and 15 minutes and learn three words that you could have gotten in five minutes with your textbook. TA's will save you; they simplify the unnecessary info she throws on you and prepare you for the test. Take her over other teachers, but learn how to skip her lectures.
Don't like this teacher. She doesn't know how to teach and is not understanding at all. The tests are all that matter in her class for a grade but when she doesn't teach well you will do terrible.
My favorite professor at Lehigh! If you do the work and listen in class you will be more than prepared for any exams. She is also extremely helpful if you meet with her during office hours.
Professor Marija was very genuine and seemed to care about her students. She managed to make some of the more dry topics interesting with her sense of humor. My only issue with her class is that sometimes her graphs werent clear. ECO001 just requires basic studying and you should be fine.
The class was very lecture heavy. She would stand at the front and talk the whole time and sometimes use the chalkboard while you take notes on what you think is important. But to get an A I recommend printing the notes that she has and reading the assigned chapters and adding to the notes. Homework every week is super easy bc u get unlimited tries
I absolutely hate this class. Her lectures are so long and boring. Also confusing. Exams are super hard. Homework is easy though. Material is just thrown at us and we are expected to retain everything.
Horrible. 75% of the course grade comes from 3 tests. The lectures and homework do absolutely nothing to prepare you for the tests. No accessibility outside of class. The TAs try to fill that void, but they're just as lost as her. Good luck understanding her lectures or grading techniques. It's sad she got hired here.
Really good teacher! She cares a lot & tries to make her lectures interesting (but it's still eco001 & she teaches 200 people so it's obviously going to be a lecture). I had some classes with other ECO001 profs, and she's definitely better! Her expectations are clear and tests are fair if you read the book, go to class and do the homework. Take her
Absolutely no structure to her lectures, just her writing random things on blank pieces of paper. Actual exams are nothing like practice exams. Probably the worst class I've ever had to take in my schooling career.
This professor truly cares for her students to do well in her class. If you show that you actively participate and attend her classes, she will be more understanding when you have concerns about your grade. Office hours and recitations were extremely helpful when I took this class over the winter semester. Read the textbook as it will help a lot.
I took this in Fall 2018. She's a great professor & is easy to understand. Her office hours are always accessible & it helps A LOT with the homework & exams, which is what the grade is based on. If you attend the lectures, study the notes from them & the textbooks, & go to office hours, you can definitely get an A. Just put some damn effort in.
Literally read/ highlight textbook for each chapter and easy A. You won't even have to show up for lecture if you want - you will just know everything. Seriously.
Great teacher, she is able to explain complicated concepts in a clear and simple way. She understands her students are human and genuinely cares about us learning the material and understanding it. As long as you put in the appropriate amount of work, you will be okay. Many of the teachers at Lehigh could learn a few lessons from her.
Marija was a really nice lady. But she shouldnt be teaching this class. There was a lot of material on the exams that she just straight up didnt cover in lecture. Make sure to read the textbook or at least skim over it
Go to class and read the textbook. Her exams aren't that hard if you just make a Quizlet and study the graphs/charts. Her exams are predictable, so you know what you're getting into. Reading the textbook before class isn't a must, but you should at least read the summaries at the end of the chapter before exams. She covers most of it in class.
Great professor. Really cares about the students and is one of the best college professors I have ever had. Exams are very fair as long as you study.
Don't take this class if you want to be taught econ in the lecture. She writes random things from the slides on a plain white piece of paper and then ignores the rest of the material on the slideshow. Homework is once a week and unlimited tries and easy. She says students do worse on the midterm 2 and final but weights them more heavily.
Nice woman. Lectures are a bit hard to follow and she has an accent that can be hard to understand at times but she posts slides with all the notes. Exams are much easier than Gnter's so if you have the choice then take her. Gnter is better at explaining stuff though. Attendance is mandatory because there are attendance quizzes. Read the textbook
Advice: Keep up with info. Save info week before exam get C D. Lecture is helpful if you read the textbook over the weekend Accessible and helpful for office hours Switch to a good TA (Price) to go to her office hours as well This class is AP on steroids Read 2 chapters a weekend memorize 2 powerpoints learn recitation homework and should get an A
Nice lady in class but abrasive and difficult to communicate with/work with over email. Does not answer all of questions when contacted over email and there are often a lot since her lectures are fast-paced, messy, and skip over important information. She should not be teaching this class. If you can take ECO1 elsewhere you should and transfer cred
Hands down the least helpful and worst teacher I have had.
Nothing short of abrasive and rude over email. Lectures are confusing and if you cannot make office hours, don't bother emailing. You will get an email that is the equivalent of a grunt back.
Notes are extremely unclear. Overcomplicates material which can be explained using a few words.
Absolutely ridiculous I was literally .2 from a higher grade letter and the professor would not round. I attended every single lecture, did every homework, and went to every recitation. Choose this professor if youre looking for someone with a lack of empathy, but thats all. Lectures are not helpful, must put in a lot of your own time to succeed.
Marija is not a good professor, her lectures are unorganized and painfully boring. That being said, the material itself is not that difficult and the homework is a breeze. If you want to do well in this class, your best bet is to read the textbook religiously and use online sources.
Dont be scared of the recent low scores, her class is literally not bad, just a lot of freshman lack the focus to do well. If you attend every lecture, take okay notes, and study off the slides a couple times prior to each exam, you should have no problem at least getting a B. My class avg got curved to a B-. its not difficult to do better
Marija is extremely intelligent and is good at getting the ideas across in lecture. She puts together a slideshow for each chapter that has everything you need to know. The "required" textbook in this class isn't necessary unless you want to know things you won't be tested on.
Marija is such a good professor I highly recommend. Her class is definitely difficult and her style of teaching can be hard to grasp at first. The tests are hard but if you put in the work you can end with a good grade. Test material is all posted on course site and I recommend reading the textbook.
This class is unnecessarily difficult given that econ isnt too hard when explained in a good way. It was lecture heavy with a weird way of explaining things and if you bomb 1 test, youre done for. Theres basically no redemption. Its definitely a biz weed-out course if thats what theyre going for.
I highly recommend going to the lectures. She is a great professor and gives great examples for every single concept.
marija is an ok teacher. her tests are somewhat easy and she is better than the other econ teacher. her lectures are a little all over the place but she provides extra videos and extra credit. you can earn an A if you study well and do peer tutoring. attendence is just curve busters so you can get the answers from someone who was in class that day
The homework and quizzes are really easy as long as you pay attention in lectures. Although she posts notes on coursite, her handwriting can be tough to read, but bottom line: show up and take notes
love her. such a good prof. really cares about her students. so helpful, and not too much work! take this course with her!!
Marija was way better for eco146 than eco 001, lectures were straightforward test and quizzes were just like homework and practice exams. Hard to get a bad grade in if you understand basic derivatives and can take notes.
LECTURE-Instead of tracking attendance, there will randomly be a "curve Buster" to see if youre attending. I found her teaching to be effective and thorough HW-HW due every Friday and Reading for each class RECITATION-Attendance is tracked, Value dependent on your TA TEST-Questions are pulled from HW and class examples,TA gives old test to review
Lectures tend to be boring, but she is very reachable outside of class. Explains concepts well, but to get the full understanding, you need to read the textbook.
Lots of lectures and they can be fun to listen to. Tests can be difficult, but if you study you wont walk out with below a ~80. Significantly easier if you took micro/macro.
Loved her. Exams are just like the homework and lectures are very straightforward.
Marija went through material very quickly and considering the content was not easy, it made it a mess for me. Im a terrible test taker but I understood a good portion of the material I just could never properly apply it. She is the better option when it comes to other econ professors but just be prepared for a very difficult test heavy course.
I found her teaching style to be much better than Gunter's after I switched to her. ECO 001 is a tough class but she explains the topics well with relatable examples. She also has detailed helpful slides to go along with lecture, a breath of fresh air from Gunter's computer and phone ban. Very good at answering questions. Pop quizzes as attendance.
Difficult to learn from because her handwriting was pretty poor. She has a pretty thick Eastern European accent so some things can come out slurred, which makes taking notes pretty frustrating. Your grade is pretty much determined on the quizzes, midterm, and final.
Def better than Gunther for Eco 001 BUT still difficult if you do not pay attention in class. She can be extremely intimidating in class and doesn't tolerate students messing around, but it's clear she has a firm understanding on the topics covered in class.
Maria is a good professor, I just found this class difficult because it was micro and macro in the same class. It's challenging because the exams weigh so much but she is the best for this course
Professor Marjia had nothing to do with the difficulty of the class. Eco 001 is harder than some might assume, you have to read and understand the material to do well. After meeting with her a few times to get help, she recommend to just read her slides(where the most important information was). She is super approachable, and funny. Hard class tho
Marija is a great professor. Didn't slack in any department. Her notes and teaching were very easy to follow, and you can tell that she cares about her students and their well-being. All of the content was clear, and she provided clear and concise slides to convey the topics. Finally, her way of explaining problems is very easy-to-follow.
So Marija is awesome. I really liked her, but the class has too much material, and that is what makes it hard. I bombed the second midterm, and there was no saving my grade after that, which was very annoying. Marjia is great and considerate during office hours, but the class has simply so much material.
She's nice but the class is hard. Got a 4 on ap macro and still struggled a lot in this class
TAKE ECO ONLINE DURING THE SUMMER. Will save your GPA. Tests are online and a lot of the terms are on quizlet. Literally saved my life doing it online. Marija is just a hard professor there is a lot to learn and I def would have not have done well in person.
She is really nice and always available for office hours, but Marija's lectures are just formatted yap sessions (in case you aren't good at learning that way). ECO001 is very hard and covers a lot of content, and Marija tests you on stuff only communicated through lecture/recitation. She does curve the overall grade though.
She wasn't that bad, but the stuff she teaches is NOT on her tests and she wastes half the lectures by talking about her family and other non-related things.
Almost the entire class grade is exams. Light homework but you should read the textbook if you want to do well. Tests are fairly difficult but not meant to confuse you.
This class is very test-heavy, with 80% of your grade coming from exams. The tests are challenging, you must read the textbook to perform well. Her lectures are just her talking. The practice tests are helpful. She does curve busters - random attendance points. She's approachable during office hours and is helpful but often has a line.
loved marija. the lectures could be boring but she's a great teacher. definitely read the textbook before classes and look at the slideshows. go to her office hours for help and develop a relationship with her. if she knows you, she's more lenient to help. tests are majority of the grades but homework's, attendance, and recitations also help.
I thought that her lectures were boring but they explained the topics well. If you pay attention in class and do the homework then the exams are not too bad. Attendance is near mandatory with the amount of curve busters that she does and the recitations are mandatory
THANK THE LORD IF YOU GET HER INSTEAD OF THE OTHER GUY. Fair grader, incredible teacher. Has lived in many economic extremes and uses her experiences to teach economics wholly. She has a thick accent but provides her TAs with thorough slides for students who need extra review. PLEASE go to lecture and do the easy homeworks.
This class is not extremely difficult as long as you do the readings and stay on top of all the information. Professor Marija is very kind and accessible if you need help in office hours, and she also teaches the lectures in a way that's easy to understand. There is an extra credit opportunity and a curve at the end which helps too.
Teaches very well, but pretty difficult
Professor Marija is a good lecturer, but the content of the class is difficult. There is so much information in a short amount of time. If someone in the lecture is disruptive, she isn't afraid to call them out. Attendance is graded through "curve busters" and recitations. It is so important to read the textbook or you won't fully understand.
Marija definitely could have been worse. I like her and respect her as a person, but her teaching was horrendous. I could never follow lecture or her handwriting. I blame myself though because I didn't read the textbook, but i dont think anyone mentally sane could endure the textbook. She isn't the worst but the class is HARD! Good luck!!!!
Her lecture style is not good and she has mandatory attendance as well to waste your time. A lot of learning will be done outside of class.
She's alright. Makes easier tests than other professors but hardly teaches during lectures. You'll learn far more just reading the textbook.
Marija teaches you econ pretty decently and most of the class is just memorisation with some application. She is a little mean at times to students who ask stupid questions but overall she isn't that bad and she offers extra credit even if it is very small and there is a small curve. Decent professor and her slideshows help a lot.
She knows the material and explains it well and the class is structured and informative if you keep up. But her attitude is a major drawback. She's often rude, dismissive, and overly opinionated. It feels like she's not at peace or happy teaching. The tension in class makes it hard to stay engaged. A more respectful tone would help a lot.
The exams were pretty difficult but you really just need to know how to study for them. I had no idea what to expect and did terribly in the class
Everyone generally agrees she's the easier teacher between her and Gunter. Keeps things interesting. Eco 001 is just a hard course in general.
Marija is arguably the better of the two. Her final is all multiple choice, and this is not an easy class, but she for sure knows what she's talking about. Prepare to study more than you think, but I really think she's a good choice
This class is just overall hard but she makes it more enjoyable. I also think your TA has a large role to play as well. You really have to understand the content and take time outside of class to learn.
Marija is great. Her classes isn't incredibly difficult, mostly just memorizing economic vocabulary and how different things work. Her attendance isn't mandatory, but she sometimes does attendance activities. Personally, she is a fun person who will often use examples from the real world or her life throughout lectures. Would take again.
Econ is just a hard class period. She is the better teacher and she's very accessible outside of class. Definitely focus on getting a good TA. Be prepared to study A LOT.
Prof. B is a very good econ Professor. She has extra credit opportunities in the form of attending school career fairs and other business events. Many students who grade poorly in the course don't open their textbook, despite Prof B. highlighting it's cruciality in succeeding in the course. Would highly recommend going to office hours.
overall good class decent lectures just keep up with the notes and its not that bad
Maria is not the best lecturer and she often goes on tangents, once even about mayonnaise and French fries. Her tests are like half MCQ half FRQ and her final is 120 MCQ. Not too bad but most of your learning will be on your own through the textbook or with your TA in recitation.
Professor Marija is definitely up there as one of my favorite professors ever. She's very knowledgable, respectful, and has a pretty 'dark' sense of humor. She's also super supportive and always wishes the best for her students. Tbh, most of the problems are about the course's content as it's quite heavy and theory-based, not the professor herself.
If you put in the work, you can easily do well. I didn't read the textbook but went to all my TA's review sessions and all office hours. The TA you have can be make or break so if you don't understand yours go to a different one. Marija seems scary but is actually very fair and laid back. Very good professor
Marija is a good professor and makes the material pretty easy to understand. Her lectures are pretty interesting and also can help you in understanding the material since she explains concepts well. Having a good TA is extremely helpful for this course so be sure to utilize their help and office hours whenever you can.
Marija was a great professor and lectured well. Go to class - don't miss more than two curve busters. Study hard for the midterms and final (4+ days, don't just rewrite notes). Also, do the extra credit... it bumped me up a letter grade. I didn't like how students compete with each other since grading is based on class avg (B- is just above)
With 26 chapters, there's a lot to cover, so lock in early on. Review her slides, form a study group, go to tutoring, and take the trial exams for practice. Manage your time effectively. If you think the textbook helps you, read it. If you're losing focus or getting tired, don't waste your time on forcing yourself to read the entire textbook.
she's alright. pretty boring lectures, but she's approachable. the tests are no joke, and are definitely what pulled down my grade despite having great attendance, homework, curvebuster, and ec scores. i would 100% not study just the night before, esp if econ is not your thing. go to office hours and ask for help. i regret not doing that.
