Pretty nice but reacts badly to stupid questions, which isn't good in a remedial level math class. Work is not difficult and she shows you lots of ways to do problems you may not have known before.
her teaching abilities are quite different. not one i would recamend. she seems to be angery all the time and that intimidates the students and doesn't promote a good learning environment.
Had a different style of teaching that worked better than my other teachers. Leaned alot
Mrs Anderson moves quick. You need to have your work done and you need to ask questions if you have them. Her test are easy though if you just keep up with your work. I got 100% on her final though because its all questions from previous tests. I highly suggest taking a class w/ her!!
I agree with what the others said. She does have an unusual style of teaching but it worked well for me. Just study the old test, because the final has almost identical problems. As for her attitude, she responds very negatively to questions that are somewhat easy, which is very intimidating.
I didn't like her method of teaching, she seems to always have a bad and stingy attitude. However, her tests are somewhat simple but I have to say I do not agree with her way of grading. She thinks labeling graphs are more important than the concept of calculus itself.
Yes, her teaching style is different, but it suits me.
She's ok once you get used to her, but beware the introduction persiod of time
This teacher exudes anger and impatience. Would seriously look for 'anyone but' for teacher options. One has to wonder if that is why so many students don't pass this basic course.
She is a strikt teacher but she does teach you what you need to know. She doesn't asign homework but if you dont do it, you'll be lost. Ask a lot of questions and study hard for the tests. Here final will be 95% the same as the tests(same questions). I just memorized the answers and filled them in.
When a professor stands in front of the class just before being evaluated and states "that it doesn't matter what you rate her as, she's got tenure". Well, what can you say! Extremely negative attitude in class and out. Knows her subject but arrogance/unfriendlyness overkills any benefit.
No-nonsense, cut and dry, intelligent, a bit caustic but nothing personal. Quite nice and understanding one on one. Fast-paced (she's a racecar driver!) so keep up. Study old tests as prep for finals which can boost a fledgling grade. Intimidated at first but happy having taken her class now.
Diff. style of teaching. Very straightfoward. I would say she's ok cuz i left that class feeling like i actually learned something, but many people didn't like her. Could be negative and mean sometimes. For final, study the tests! Do the problems, otherwise you'll be totally lost.
too many group projects! and so much busy work. I got the concepts, did well on the tests, but all the buy work and group projects made me fail.

She seems to know what she is talking about and i am impressed by the ammount of time she takes for my online class AFTER she has finished teaching her other, on campus classes. Overall she seems to be pretty good at what she does
She went through everything slowly and clearly. One of the best math teachers I have had.
As noted below, she seems convinced that this is an English class rather than calculus. Units of measurement take priority over calculations. There are a lot of word problems on the test which don't reflect actual knowledge of math. She tends to go on verbal spurs and quiet frequently makes calculation mistakes on the board. I urge to stay away!
don't take a class with her, you will regret it.
She is a crazy women. Treats the class like we are children. Come back! Come back!
Absolute nut, a total mental case ready to unload on someone. Her mind races more than her car. Stay away from her as she may, mentally, run you down. Hey Marily, COME BACK... to reality that is and learn that your students are taking your course to learn from YOU, not their "neighbor"...
goes through the material very fast. does a few problems on the board and expects you to learn it instantly. only talk when she wants you to talk. she wants you to ask your neighbor for help even if your neighbor doesnt understand the math
There is too much material to cover well in one quarter and she shows that stress all too well. She is more than fair on giving points for partial credit on tests, but doesn't give practice tests before tests. I feel that, given the amount of material to cover in a short time, a practice test to narrow the important material should be required.
dont take this class!! when you ask questions she makes you feeel stupid.
She is loud and disruptive when the class is quietly working. Not helpful, even when you ask for help. She talks down to students as if we were two years old. No calculators allowed on tests.
Basically, she sucks. The way she talks will disgusts you for sure.
the absolute WORST teacher ive had in my 24 years of life on this planet. difficult to follow and just plain mean. word to the wise: dont breathe too loud
Not a good instructor. The way she explains the learning objectives and math problems is very confusing, the book was far more help than she was. She covers material far too quickly and her tests are difficult and sometimes complex. I studied quite a bit for the exams and completed all the suggested homework and had an extremely hard time passing.
She explains things well. The test questions are difficult but she grades fairly. So its a wash. I would recommend her to a friend if they understand they need to keep quite in class.
There's too much material on the exams for the time given. She's not very understanding and short tempered. If you can, take it with a different instructor. If you can't take it w/ another teacher, get a proctor for your exams. I consider myself pretty good at math, and I got a B. I very dissatisfied with the course.
Because this class is online she does absolutely nothing but grade our tests. Don't dare ask a question or be ready to be humiliated on the bulletin board. Everything she writes has !!! behind it. She seems angry about something, it's too bad because I met her in person and she seemed pleasant for the moment. Unfortunately I cannot recommend he
HORRIBLE TEACHER! She makes mistakes on the board all the time, is not clear on her instructions or her explanations, and hardly offers any valuable help. IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!
This teacher treats everyone like an idiot. She "yells" at you for asking questions, but also makes it a requirement (online discussion). Tests are HARD--too much info, not enough time. She's just plain mean! Avoid her!
WARNING! Teacher is bad, really bad. Cheted me out of good grade. should have got 100% misclaculated. cant do the basics. Never there. evil. probally eats little kids for breakfast. super hard quizzes and lessons. studdied really hard for test. she made test easy. rotton teacher. Class asverage: failing. WORSE THAN CERNUT!
I took Ms. Andersons class where math is done on a computer. I actually enjoyed the class because you can work by yourself and have the computer lecture you. She is helpful when you need it, but other than that she leaves you alone, easy grader and tests are not hard at all, final was easy too! no homework and the last couple tests are take home!
I decided to take this teacher even though she had a bad rating and I wish I hadnt. There are only 4 tests and she drops the lowest one. There is no homework, quizzes or attendance but that means you have to do really well on her hard tests. She doesnt like if you ask questions and is not approachable.
She watches the class in invisible mode on VISTA, so discussions with classmates teach more than her course notes. She does not seem to believe in the integrity of her students, and is condescending. If you can teach yourself, and share no opinions, you're fine. Tests are short (timed-proctor), & no notes allowed: so be ready! Do all homework!
She is very organized and helpful. Exams were hard.
I liked her a lot! She was very helpful. I like her style!
Disrespectful to students. Very intimidating- students are afraid to ask questions, or apologize before asking a question. Incomprehensible teaching methods. Tells students who ask for help to "read the textbook".
i did 156 online thought it would be hard to do math online. The concepts are not too hard even if youre dumb. She recommends 3 hours per day-i did not have that kind of time and i got a c. If i had more time I would have done better. tests are hard, you only have aprox. 1 hour for them. homework not turned in but necessary. memorize all formulas!!
I agree with the invisible teacher comment. If you have quesions about the work, she allows the students to struggle over the questions, only jumping in for clarification purposes. She is very picky about how you do whatever you are required to do. Tests are small but rediculously hard. I would not recommend taking this class online, nor with her.

Does not understand the concept of teaching. Extremely disruptive when students are working and makes a lot of mistakes on the board. If you like being intimidated and talked down on, take her class. Otherwise, steer clear.
This teacher is kind of impatient to answer students'questions. Her lecture is not clear enough to follow and sometimes she makes mistakes in class. If you do the problems on textbook carefully, you may get an A, but if you do not, it is impossible to get it.
Marilyn told me that college students should be able to learn Math on their own without the aid of an instructor. Unless you are comfortable learning math on your own without any guidance, I strongly urge you to find another instructor who cares about your understanding and success.
Instructor had a view about the students ability to self-teach that was very different from most other teachers I've had. I didn't care for her style and communication mannerisms.
DISLIKE HER!!!! She's so mean she yells at everyone and always yells COME BACK!!! And she will not take time outside of class and very unlcear on workload. Badeball players like her cuz shes their tutor so if you play baseball take her

I took the online class and would recommend it to people who can manage their time well and stay on top with their hw. You get all hw in advance w/c I liked if you wanted to finish more before the weekend, Math lab and online tutoring were also very helpful so although online you can find plenty of help!
I just finished Math 156 (now called Math& 138) online. Ms. Anderson gave the homework/test calendar for the whole quarter at the beginning. You have access to a discussion board and online tutors, but you essentially teach yourself. She is short and curt with responses, but grades tests quickly. If you take her class, keep up with your homework.
This course was difficult but it was an online course and I expected to have to work for my grade. Professor Anderson was a great teacher... her notes on the course were awesome and the site was well organized. I have no complaints and would recommend her to anyone who is willing to earn their grade. AKA: You have to reach the text!
Attendance is optional, almost no homework, grading is fair, extra credit is offered, and lectures are easy to understand. That said, I didn't like her style AT ALL. She always seems annoyed at her students. She makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. If she doesn't like your question, she just refuses to answer it.
This teacher is very difficult with her take-home assignments. 90-100% of the class ended up a full letter grade lower because of her take-home assignments --full of application problems that are really strange (not your typical application problems but ones that are near impossible to solve even if you go to the math lab) Otherwise okay teacher.
She wasn't really clear and very vague on the subject material discussed. She's also impatient and teaches in such a fast pace, at times it's quite impossible to catch up. Don't take this class in the morning, I fell asleep many times...you need to be alert in this class.
She grade very hard. The quiz is short, but it?s hard and not enough time to finish. Even though No one finishes the quiz, she will NOT lower the total point. As a teacher: If you asking her the unnecessary questions, she will embarrass you in front of other students or not answer them. When you come to class late DON?T walk in front of the clas
I will never take a class with her again! She makes everything more harder than it really is and doesn't take the time to answer students' questions. Instead she just tells them to look in their book. She's rude and intimidating and her tests are way hard. I find that her students often correct her. But one good thing: group work on take-home hw.
HORRIBLE TEACHER. she never answered 1 question of mine and never checks her email. could care less if you were there or not. dont go to a class by her. look for FLANAGAN instead. She made us look to the book and computer for everything and when we didnt know something she just says "oh well."
She was a very cruel teacher the only time I ever asked a question she purposely responded like she didn't understand what I was asking to make me feel stupid. I wish they would fire her. She got mad at me too for finishing a test early. She gets pissed off if you don't do the unrequired hmwk as well!
She's not into playing around, she knows her stuff well and she teaches you the said stuff. No talking, but come one, you're there to do calculus anyway. Do your homework and pay attention, you'll be golden! And don't take anything personally.
She took an adversarial approach to the students during this class
"Oh Well" lol. Theres really not much to the class other then sitting on the computer and learning the math skills all by yourself.. if you need help then you can ask her and she can be a little rude at times but as long as you behave and don't talk then she will like you and be nice to you.
little or no help with homework, no real test preparation, not much of a personality
Rude, condescending, and unprofessional. She actually teaches, which is nice, but spends the majority of class barking at students for minor infractions. She does not show the same respect and courtesy to students that they are expected to show her.
VERY RUDE! Doesn't answer student questions without being condescending and making you feel like an idiot. Interrupts students and always butting in with "CAN WE COME BACK PLEASE, CAN WE COME BACK?" when no one is even talking... Doesn't actually teach anything in class, just goes over homework from the previous night. Better off taking it online.
I dont understand why BCC still keeps her to lower schools reputation. Rude, poor teaching skill. I hated her class, and never will take it again.
Ill have to disagree with most of you, I really enjoyed Marilyn's class. She really knows her stuff and if you actually ask for help outside of class she will give it to you. Attendance isnt necessary and not much homework which is nice. Tests weren't too hard. Granted she can get kind of snappy, but other than that i liked her class a lot.
better off taking an online class.. she doesn't teach...
Took class online. RUDE. She did nothing to help us learn, relied ONLY on the book, when asked directly for help she pointed us to the class notes and refused to help more than that. Marked a test that I got an A on down a whole letter grade because it was in the wrong format. Class average on test: 64%, no A's or A-'s, didn't curve.
shes mean. shes embarassing students for not knowing enough, but we are in a low level class!
Very rude to students. Would put you down if you did not pick up the concepts right away. She will snap at you if you ask a question while she is going over problems on the board. We never turned in homework. We usually did our homework FIRST then she would go over the section in class. Did not like her teaching one bit. Iadvise you NOT to take her
Very rude to students. She will snap at you if you ask a question while she is going over problems on the board. We never turned in homework. We usually did our homework FIRST then she would go over the section in class. If you ask for help outside class, she is not very flexible.Did not like her teaching one bit. I advise you NOT to take her
Has a lot of attitude towards students. Gets snappy fast. Taking online class. You'll have to do all your homework because notes posted don't teach much. Will learn mostly from the textbook and book's website. Getting a good grade takes 2 to 3 times the amount it would take in a reg. class, b/c you're teaching it to yourself.
Well, if you like teaching yourself, this is the class for you. I took the online course and pretty much taught myself using the book. Professor was not much help throughout the quarter. Forced you to rely on other students to get answers to your questions. Should could get snappy at time, and came across as rude to some. If you can, find anot
Knew her rating, but took this class as I was math teacher in Russia. Got an A, but it was the worst class at BC. Don't take her even if you're good at math. She will give you two on-campus tests and there will be not enough time to do it. Her solutions has many mistakes (even quadratic equation in pretest). Study practice test if you want to pass.
Took this class online and I have to say it's been the most difficult class ever...and I don't think it was necessarily the subject matter. She provides notes on each section but they're very short. Two on-site exams while announcing the location of the tests only after students asked her. I suggest not taking her, and just taking it on campus.
Teacher ok
I wish that I took all these reviews seriously. This teacher is the worst teacher in BC that I ever had. She is so rude, mean and unhelpful. She didn't answer the questions. She makes students feel bad when we have some questions. I like coming to school to learn but she is the one that makes my learning experience suck. DON'T take her.
Math is already one of my worst subjects so I wasn't completely thrilled to have a math course the first quarter of college. Anderson as my teacher made me feel as if I had no hope to grasp the subject better. Her "explanations" were mainly "Isn't the answer obvious?!" I would only reccomed her to students taking high math levels.
I usually don't say bad things.. but this teacher was not right for me. Snapped back at students, easily irritated, and low tolerance. I learned never to ask questions(too scared ]; ) and to learn from the textbook (others didnt touch theirs). Going to class = pointless, she just goes over hw problems. Important days = test days/day after.
I have to agree with all the bad comments on this teacher. I missed one day and called her for info & she NEVER responded. Questions? Forget out it! She doesn't like to respond. She puts everyone off and even makes you feel bad! If you have your choice, DON'T TAKE HER!
Anderson isn't the worst professor, but definitely not the best. She's quite rude and doesn't teach the material that well. Though she's pretty easy when it comes to tests, because she give you a lot of partial credit. Overall, not the greatest, but its easy enough to survive.
Do not take her class if you want an A unless you never make mistakes in Tests and never miss class. She accepts late assignments but takes points of even if you were sick. Her teaching is boring and she just goes over the homework. She is rude and gets mad at the class. There is no point of going to class accept for the tests and assignments
Over all she was an average teacher. She would explain new material for the first week of class and then rest of the week was used for reviewing homework. She grade using 4 tests and 5 assignments. With her you have to make sure to do your homework.
Bad teacher! She isn't helpful and she doesn't know how to use the online forum effectively. projects and discussions are not helpful and if you don't respond the way she likes you don't get any points. i aces all my tests but because of my participation my grade suffered i just never got the point to the busy work...
If you take it online you pretty much just teach yourself everything. NO hw is turned in except for the first day of class there's a scavengar hunt. Graded solely on 2 discussion posts per week, 3 group projects, 3 exams (Only the two best scores go toward grade)and a final. So if you just study for the tests youll get a good grade.
One of the best Math teachers I have ever met. Very caring and willing to help her students.
WORST instructor I've ever encountered. No instruction, she has no clue how to use the online learning forum, unorganized information, expects expert knowledge of equation editor in Word on the first exam (3 days after starting class), wants everything emailed oustide of the learning forum (pointless). Totally on our own with this class!
Online class. 3 tests and a final all but the first test are proctored. HW not graded or turned in. Tests are very difficult and above and beyond what the homework covers. She won't tell you what will be on them...just to do the homework. AVOID if you want a decent grade or are a math genius.
You will be left on your own to learn via the (horrible) book and optional software. Homework is not turned in, and will not prepare you for what you will see on exams. If you take this online, use iTunes U and Khan to actually learn the content. Three exams and a final; lowest non-final score is dropped. I got an A but it was not easy at all.
Worst WORST teacher in the world. She is rude, useless, and can't use a computer. Considering this was an online class, that was a problem. Just tests and she DOES NOT prepare you for them. Gives "suggested" hmwk that is about 3 times easier than the test. Hated her! Any help you asked, she replied with the rudest answer and a lot of !!! Or no answr
Positives: Notes very helpful, easy to understand. Grading Fair. Do the work well and you'll get good grades. Test Prep better than other Math Classes at this school. Negatives: You must self-teach because there is no teacher engagement.
Probably my worst experience at BC to date. Terrible format on Canvas, and virtually no instruction whatsoever.
Sorely disappointed by the format of this class. For an online class, nothing is done online. No lectures and very little help. Graded only on tests and no structure to the chapters. Don't expect a well formulated class - very self paced. Take this on campus for a better experience.
The only instruction comes from telling you what homework should be worked on that day. Attendance listed as mandatory due to her telling us to sign into the forums everyday and spend 3 hours working on classwork a day including weekends. Requires the first test to be formatted in Word using the equation editor and if you don't know how, drop.
