She is great and helpful but takes attendance once a week, and gives you points for being there. I would take her for the next bio but she does not teach it. TAKE her class!
AWESOME teacher. Very helpful, clear, fair, and goes beyond to make sure you understand material. I would take her next semester, but she doesn't teach 1430 unfortunately. EVERYTHING I LOOK FOR IN A PROFESSOR
She is an awesome teacher! She provides really helpful outlines for taking notes, and her tests are straight off the notes. I didn't even open the book once. She makes sure to provide as much help as the class needs, and automatically gives 10 extra credit points on each test. She is awesome! I absolutely love her as a teacher.
Great biology teacher. I hate the subject and she does a really good job at keeping you interested, especially in a subject that is usually taught in a very dry way. She's funny, personable, and very willing to help. TAKE HER.
Very easy to understand however you must study for the test. She loves trick questions but if you know the material than your fine. She also has a study session before classes during her lunch break which is awesome. She is very helpful but I wouldn't say her class is easy at least if you want an A.
Great professor! She breaks everything down and makes it extremely understandable. I wish I could take her for all of my classes. To top it all off, she's a super nice lady! TAKE HER!
Smart professor....maybe too smart for non-majors. I have really bad reading comprehension and all it was was lectures and notes. She gave plenty of Extra credit and study guide and session chances....Good Luck. She is really nice. Tests are rough.
Good teacher. Makes the information easy to understand and goes out of her way to answer questions.
Easy teacher. I never cracked my book the whole semester and I made an A. Definitely the class to take if you don't want to buy a book. The tests are based only on the very easy notes taken in class...on the tests I made a 100, 97, etc.
I hate biology, Dr. Banta made it fun! her tests are difficult, she likes trick questions, which makes it difficult for non-bio majors. She takes attendance announced and unannounced and she easy to follow along with during lecture. LOTS OF NOTES! be prepared to take lots, that is what the exams are on! She is a very nice person, too!
She's really nice and will answer any questions you have. The class is very easy. All you have to do is copy notes from her powerpoints, pay attention in class, and study your notes and its an easy A. She gives out a review for all of the tests, plenty of extra credit, if you have a little knowledge of bio, this class should be a piece of cake.
Banta's class is so easy if you just go and take notes. She provides lecture handouts and extra credit opportunities. You should definitely take her if you want an A. I never read or studied and I made a C.
I've taken this class three times. Trust me when I say Dr. Banta is a blessing to the biology dept. She respects the fact that this is a non-majors course and skims the informaion down to what is relevant to you. Tests are fairly easy, most of the ?'s come straight from her notes. She will spend the whole class period answering questions.
A great professor. For those that are non-bio majors I highly recommend her. Very approachable and down to earth. I truly enjoyed attending her course and would take her again in a heartbeat.
I highly recommend this professor. I got a B and science is not even my forte
Easy as long as you go to class and take good notes on the outlines that she puts on her website. Test reviews are not helpful. Studying them is a waste of time, just study notes the night before and you are in the clear. (Pay attention to the random facts she throws out in class, show up on tests).
Dr. Banta is amazing. she's easy to follow provides 10 extra credit points on each exam. holds study sessions before the exam. drops lowest test grade. attendance is a part of your grade.
Great teacher! Bio is no where close to a good subject for me and came out the class with a C without useing the text book or taking any quiz. As long as you take notes, go to class and do quiz extra credit its an easy B+
The class was pretty easy. Attendance was not mandatory but it counted towards extra credit, plus she only took attendance once a week. The tests do not go by the study guide but it is extremely helpful if you turn the study guide into flash cards. Some lectures are pretty boring and i found myself falling asleep.
Fantastic professor.
She is awesome! I came into the class thinking that I would hate biology, but now I wish I could major in it. She made the material fun and relateable. She had very good study guides. I never used the book and I got an A on every test. Oh yeah, she gives out plenty of extra credit. But obviously, you need to attend class to understand material.
She's an amazing professor! She made biology easy to understand! I highly recommended taking her!
What a wonderful woman! I loved the class and would take it again if I could. I made a 98. Attend class, take a few notes, study & you should do just fine.
She gives lots of extra credit. Conducts class off of powerpoints which are only available to you if you go to class. Maybe it was just me, but she never seemed to explain things well. Her tests are hard and you pretty much have to read the book and take detailed notes from it to get As if you arent naturally good in biology. I ended up with a B.
Very good professor! As long as you go to class, take notes, and study, you'll do good in the course. Make sure to go to lab, it counts for 25% of your grade.
She is such a sweet woman. The tests are all straight from the powerpoints and she gives lots of extra credit. However, you must attend class to get the notes and she takes points for attendance. I got an A in the class, but I never really felt like I understood much because her notes were very unclear.
Awesome prof, knows her stuff and presents it clearly and concisely. Tests are based on the lectures she gives in class, book reading is mostly if you miss a class or want extra material. She focuses on us (non majors) knowing the concepts, not whether we know every stage of mitosis. Very nice, very helpful and very fair.
I took her Bio 1320 class in the summer and I loved it!! She is a great professor! Fair, kind, helpful, and very clear on her points. She makes sure you understand the material. She gives a lot of extra credit. I would definitely recommend her!!!!
VERY good professor! I hate any type of science, but professor Banta is very enthusiastic about what she teaches, and spells out everything for you. Don't bother buying the book, as long as you go to class and get the notes for the handouts she provides. Tests are directly from the handouts
do the extra credit!!
I don't like Bio but loved this prof! Very helpful with questions. She uses ppt and gives you time to copy everything down. The handouts on TRACS were helpful to follow along with notes. DO the extra credit! It helps alot and is very easy. Attendance is part of your grade. I don't think I ever used the textbook- just study your handouts/notes well
great prof! very passionate. go to class and do the extra credit!
Take this class. Don't waste money on the book (or buy an old edition for like $2 on Amazon if you need it), you only need your notes. There's a lot of extra credit...do it! If you do the homework and show up to class, you can get a B even if you don't put much effort into the tests.
Very straightforward and easy to understand. Tons of extra credit, take advantage of it. Do the online assignments, they're worth a good chunk of your grade. 4 exams total, the lowest is dropped. Don't buy the book, you'll never use it.
SO much extra credit! As in you can increase your grade by 10%, one whole letter grade, if you do it all. Attendance is mandatory, it's part of your grade. She makes everything so easy to understand, and realizes that it's a bio for non-bio-majors. She drops your lowest test grade, too. Oh and don't buy the book, you don't need it!
I got a B. Attendance is factored in the grade but she doesn't take it everyday. Don't buy the textbook. A lot of easy homework. Tests are HARD! Everything comes from in-class notes. She has study sessions. GO!
Just took her class Spring 2012. All I have to say is this class and teacher are very clear and precise, I learned a lot from this course. If you don't get an A, then buddy school is not for you.
Don't buy the textbook. Do all the homework and extra credit. Pay attention and make sure your notes are thorough. Do all this, and it's pretty hard to make less than an A in this class. She takes attendance once a week, but going to class is vital. Having said that, doing all the extra credit will raise your final grade 10 points.
Great Professor! She is very professional... She wants you to succeed. Online homework, and extra credit is a must. Tests are very challenging, and you will need to study. The grading is a little strange but all of the "points" get tallied and out comes a grade. This class is not for lazy people, but serious students who want to learn. Easy B
This class is straight forward. Challenging and the lab is calculated into your final lecture grade (worth 25%). Attend class and do all the online quizzes (do them with friends it will be easier) to get extra credit! I didn't like the fact that she didn't give out a study guide prior to her test though other than for the final. She gives you notes
If you love science, and it interest you, then take her. If not, I would take another teacher that actually gives you a study guide rather than look at 7 chapters of notes per test! Its ridiculous. Wouldnt take this teacher again.
Nice, at times rude. Attendance and ex quizzes are ex credit (do them!) Test are rough, don't buy the book, her notes are fill in the blank so you have to go to class! Warning: she runs after you if you leave class too early after signing in of the whole class (she did it 3x) not to me though ha! No reviews for test other than for final :/ dislike that! Do well in lab (it's 25% of your grade and will help/hurt you)!!!!
If you want to succeed in this class, you MUST attend. I think Dr. Banta is great but you have to study in this one. I admire how she keeps her lass in order.
Not a bad teacher, but a hard class for someone who doesn't like Bio. Good notes and good slides, but still rough. I would read the chapters assigned. If you go to class and put in effort, you should be fine.
She definitely knows what she is doing. Fill-in notes that she puts on TRACS, tons of extra-credit opportunities that she puts in Mastering Biology, pretty easy homework, and she keeps class interesting. It's easy to play on your computer and type notes, but at least act like you are paying attention. GO BY HER OFFICE HOURS. IT WILL DO WONDERS.
This course is extremely filled with studying from the notes taken in class to all of the mastering biology online. Too much homework in my opinion for a freshman course. Exams are usually over 5 chapters and in my opinion way too much information to memorize. Dr. Banta is very organized and gives everyone plenty of extra credit opportunity.
Dr. Banta really cares about how her students do. She wants everyone to do well and gives plenty of opportunities to succeed, she gives review sessions for each test where you can ask any question you have about the material, it's really helpful for tests. She lectures well, I didn't even need the book to make an A.
I feel in love with biology because of Banta. She really only wants the students in the non-bio major class to know simple biology. . You dont need the textbook, but mastering biology is a must. She gives over a letter grade of extre credit through it. overall she was amazing and you must go to class! 1010
Dr. Banta's class is extremely challenging and takes a lot of studying in order to get good grades on your tests. Her lectures can be long and sometimes hard to keep up with if you're not familiar with biological terms. Fortunately, she includes lot of extra credit which can really save you.
Absolutely love Banta. She is an amazing professor but she makes you work for your grade. She has outlines for notes which you must fill in during lecture. She gives a full letter grade of extra credit. DO IT. Second bio class i take with her and didnt need the book. Attendance is part of grade. Tests are very detailed. TAKE BANTA
Professor Banta is great. Very helpful and very clear to understand. Does not use the textbook but does use the online code for everything but tests pretty much. Posts the packet to take notes on. She throws extra credit at you. Class is mainly homework, few group assignments, extra credit & the tests. Definitely recommend
Banta is a good teacher when it came to lecture, she talks too much at times. However, her tests are very detailed and somewhat hard. If you want to pass this class, don't take her, just a recommendation.
Dr. Banta is a great teacher. Her lectures are very clear, and sometimes a little boring and a lot to take in at once. She allows questions before, during and after lectures too. Anatomy is just a hard subject in general, so you WILL have to STUDY! I made an A in her class, but she definitely will not give you a grade. You have to earn it.
I'm not sure why everyone said to take her, most boring class and I studied so hard to barely make a B. I know people in Prabakeran or however you say it that said it really wasn't that bad and said they made an A. I don't think you should be able to have a test on 42 pages of notes...
First off shes not the worst teacher i have had but i would have to say that shes close. Her lectures are alright and she mostly goes off a powerpoint that you can only get by attending class. She is very strict on everything and her Exams are based mostly on homework/readings (very Detailed!)Overall i find her difficult and would not reccomend her
Dr. Banta is pretty cool. The class wasn't super easy, but not super hard either. She's open to questions. ATTENDANCE!
She is amazing. You have to study hard. She is so organized and very clear on her expectations. Great study guides.
Ms Banta class is very had but is manageable to pass. She offers extra credit as attendance so go to class !. You will take 4 exams in this class but she drops your lowest exam (not final). I would recommend her but be prepared to study hard for her class and lab !
This class was the literal death of me. Dr. Banta is an amazing professor. Her lectures are organized and she posts handouts and reviews on TRACS for a easier experience. However, the tests are detailed, even in this non-major class. The first two tests are the hardest. She also drops your lowest test grade. Banta is great, but the class is hard.
Dr. Banta can be a little hard to follow during lecture at times because she talks so quickly, trying to get in as much information as possible. You only get your notes to study for the test (no review), so be ready to study for both lecture and lab. She is very helpful during office hours, and will even give you extra credit for attendance.
Tests cover 6-7 chapters so it's a lot to learn in a short amount of time. It's obvious she's very knowledgable and passionate about what she teaches and wants students to do well. However you have to put in the work, she's not about freebies. No reviews, just PP's on TRACS. Go to class, gives EC at end of semester for attendance!!
DONT TAKE, has many homework assignments that are rather easy but deadlines are unclear. only extra credit offered was by not missing class. tests are hard and take way too long to study for. This class was my ONLY B!
You can tell she loves teaching. This course is incredibly challenging and you must study at least 4-5 days in advance. There is a ton of material to take in, but she gives you fill-in-the-blank notes for every lecture. You do not need to buy a textbook as long as you don't miss class. She also is very engaging in lecture, but the tests are HARD.
Dr. Banta is tough. She goes really fast and a lot of information is covered so it's easy to get lost. Her test are tough. She claims she offers plenty of extra credit opportunities but they only extra credit she offers is for attendance and its only 14 points to your grand total if you miss less than two classes. I wouldn't recommend taking her.
she's really nice and enjoys what she teaches but her class is hard. every test is over 7 chapters and roughly 40 pages of notes. the exams are very detailed. i'd study my butt off and still barely manage with a B because the questions were over random small things. take her if youre confident in the subject but dont take her if youre not
Her class is the hardest thing I have ever done. But you know what? It pays off and you feel proud when it ends. I wish the labs were more coordinated with the lecture material. Feels like you are learning from 2 classes at the same time. The final is the best gift she gives you. Dont use a quizlet. Do it by hand. For a 9 am class, she is engaging
Gives no extra credit other than attendance , exams arent over at least 6 chapters , all based off of her lecture which fill in the blank notes are given , offers no study guides because this is college so have fun studying 40+ pages of notes. I would not recommend to anybody very tough class.
Oh my gosh I had Banta this year and not only is she an amazing A&P professor she is funny ASF! I would literally leave class laughing about her jokes. She is so passionate about A&P its so cute when she gets to talking about something that she thinks is really cool. To do good in the class though, GO TO LECTURE. Its not bad I promise.
If you have to take anatomy, I strongly suggest taking it with Banta! The exams are over her in class notes, but she doesn't post them on TRACS so you have to go to class. She also gives a lot of extra credit, up to 14 points on your final grade, but that is based on your attendance. If you go to class and study you'll for sure pass her class.
She was a great lecturer but learning A&P completely in one semester is difficult. You must know each chapter thoroughly to pass the tests, lots of studying.
If I wouldve read my textbook more and studied at least 3-4 hours a week, I probably couldve gotten an A. The tests are tough but as long as you know the work in and out, youll do good. Definitely make sure youve taken biology first.
Dr. Banta was a solid professor. All the notes you need for this course you have to get in class. She available during her office hours. Her lectures are okay but you'll need to study the notes before exams. She gives handouts for her notes so you don't have to scramble everything little thing down yourself.
Dr. Banta is a great professor. Her lectures are very heavy and she doesn't post her lectures or powerpoints online. She gives extra credit for perfect attendance which helps with final grades. Take time to study for the exams, cuz they're kind of hard, especially exam 2. But she is a great professor.
Professor Banta is a very good explainer during lectures. You'll have pre lectures & and post lecture quizzes every week. Some quizzes are tricky but I would say take notes and study them. She offers extra credit and 2 passes during the semester on any late deadlines missed you submit and get full credit ! Very cool professor in general
She was amazing, she explains it so well! She offers a lot of extra credit through iclicker so go to class! Overall her quiz questions came straight from notes and the final as well
She gives 2 quizzes every week, it is a lot but she doesn't do midterms. she also gives you an opportunity to get lots of extra credit. still hard but I believe if it was a different professor I would of failed the class
Very good professor. Easy to follow along during lectures, but to pass the assignments you have to pay attention in class. Easy class if you put in the effort.
Dr. Banta loves this subject, so it makes for a good class when the professor is passionate. There is the exact same structure every week for quizzes, and she lets you retake two of them if you forget to do them. She also offers quite a bit of extra credit, and she gives you guided notes.
Mrs. Banta is the best teacher for this class, we have weekly test but those are easy if you take notes. She gives you chances to retake quizzes if something happens and homework assignments are easy. Gives out ALOT of extra credit too.
Dr. Banta is such a great professor, you can tell she really cares about her students and wants everyone to pass. She has modules that provide you with all of the information you need for the week such as readings and notes Her class is very well organized and as long as you keep up with the class and do your top hat points you should be fine.
LOVE Professor Banta. She genuinely cares that all of her students understand the material and she jokes around a lot which was entertaining. She provides in depth lecture and extra material on the side to ensure you understand the topic to prep for the weekly tests. She also gives out A LOT of extra credit, so just show up to class.
She was really good and gave a lot of extra credit, if you came to class.
I loved the way professor Banta organized her class. Every week theres a pre-lecture assignment to prepare for lecture, and a post-lecture quiz after lecture. She has no exams except for the final, so its nice having multiple chances to do better on her quizzes. But since it's an A&P class, so studying is important.
I enjoyed the format of this class, there was no tests except the final just quizzes as well as lots of extra credit. Dr. Banta made lectures enjoyable and information heavy. But I enjoyed the way she teaches and cares about us learning the material.
Dr. Banta is pretty easy going and the course was interesting. I liked it and would take her again
A good professor that cares about what she's teaching. It's very easy to pass the class as long as you do the weekly assignments. I suggest using the fill-in-the-blank notes she gives on canvas. She gives useful resources and she gives 2 get out of jail free cards if you miss an assignment.
Best professor I had this semester . There were clear deadlines that were easy to follow just a quiz before the new material lectured that week then a quiz at the end of the week. Several opportunities to boost your grade by almost a whole letter grade. You really have to try to do bad in her class
She is a great professor. The only thing I have to say is that her quizzes are based off of the textbook more than the lecture.
Dr Banta is very caring and passionate about what she teaches. I really like how her course was very routine-based and you had the same assignments due every week so it was easy to keep up with. The weekly quizzes are a little difficult if you only watch her lecture, you definitely have to do some extra studying in the textbook.
Pretty easy course as long as you look over material. Work for class is simple and easy to keep up with once you get in the routine.
Hopefully never run into her again, terrible experience.
banta is a good professor and a good/ helpful instructor. the class is based around participation (pre and post lecture quizzes) but she makes the lectures interesting and fun.
Don't let the the no attendance mandatory trick you. Even though attendance isn't TECHNICALLY mandatory you should still DEFINITELY go to every singe lecture. She is an excellent professor and makes anatomy and physiology a very digestible class especially for how challenging and taxing it can be. The work load is also very doable for this class.
Dr. Banta is by far the BEST anatomy professor I have had at TXST. Her lectures are fun, engaging, and intellectually stimulating. She is beyond nice and cares about all of her students so much. She uses iClicker for attendance but gives out around 20 extra credit points for it. I love her and would reccommend her to anyone!!
She is such a sweetheart and just genuinely wants every student to get a good grade and succeed. Pretty easy and she's nice and a good teacher definitely recommend
Professor Banta makes this course enjoyable with her engaging lectures and helpful structure. I'd recommend using unstuck AI along with the textbook to ace the weekly quizzes.
Overall was an easy class if you do the post and pre lecture quizzes. The attendance isnt mandatory but she does iclicker questions every class and you need to be there to answer them. Other than that, theres no exams besides the final.
Professor Banta is really good at what she does. Does she read from the ppt? Yes, but the content is quality and her lectures are engaging! go to class & get extra credit for iclicker (raised my grade a whole letter). This is not an easy course with any professor, but she makes it simple and strictly tests what you learn in lecture. Amazing prof!
Her lectures are digestible, but there is a lot of content. DO NOT fall behind. Extra credit comes from your own effort. She gives out 5 questions in class on average on iClicker. Total ends up being around 140 points. Anything above 100 goes as extra credit. Her exams are all multiple choice and off her slides. Put in time and you should get an A
