She was a good teacher. All you have to do is go to class and you'll pass. She's very fun as well.
I LOVED HER. She is extremely fair as she is kind. She is constantly smiling and trying to interest the entire class. I wish she taught higher level writing classes.
Her class was a cake walk. If you put in a little effort you'll be fine. Would for sure recommend her. You'd honestly have to try to fail.
Very Easy, Just show up and give a decent effort and you'll pass. allows one retake on a previous paper. Write 5 papers and 5 grammar quizzes
Professor Borner is a really caring lady and is always there if you need her to. We convinced her to have class only Mon/Wed and Fridays classes were online! It was a nice class to review grammer and papers. PRETTY EASY! Attendence is mandatory and everyday we had extra credit opportunities! WOULD RECOMMEND!
This professor is one of the easiest I've ever had. Just show up to class, you'll have extra cred. opps almost every day. Grades very leniently and is generally a very nice person, I would recommend this prof to anyone!
IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO TAKE THIS CLASS TAKE IT!! ALL YOU BASICALLY HAVE TO DO IS SHOW UP...THERE'S EXTRA CREDIT POINTS GIVEN OUT EVERY CLASS PERIOD AND IT'S BASICALLY A M/W CLASS AND FRIDAY IS ONLINE..THERE'S 5 PAPERS ALL TOGETHER AND YOU GET TO REDO ONE AND RETAKE ONE OF YOUR 5 GRAMMAR QUIZZES...I SERIOUSLY RECOMMEND HER CLASS TO ANYONE!
shes really nice. I got an A but you need to know 2 things. (1) GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY (2) All she really cares about on papers is GRAMMER, stick to the topic! it doesnt matter how "pretty" it is or how "good it reads".
Professor Borner's class is extremely helpful yet easy. Your only homework is the papers, everything else is done in class. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities and she grades easily on the papers. Just go to class everyday and write the papers, and you'll have an easy A.
The class is fairly simple. I had monday/wednesday classes and friday online. Most of the online classes are take home quizzes or just telling us to finish our papers. The only thing I dislike is that she uses a website to teach us instead of her own words. But either way you learn the material.
THIS IS A WONDERFUL TEACHER!!! She's extremely fair and very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The quizzes were easy if you studied the material. She gave excellent feedback on all of my papers. I hope she teaches other classes so I can take her again.
She was a wonderful teacher. Very enthusiastic and made class enjoyable. Grammar quizzes were all open book/notes and were extremely easy if you paid attention in class. Never got lower than a 3.0 on my papers. She gives out a ton of extra credit. Very helpful. Plus, she got us cookies on the day of our final! I would definitely recommend her!
The class was really easy at first, but then it got hard because there really wasn't good time management on Borner's part. She used moodle too much in my opinion, and she posted things that we had to bring to writing an hour before class.... She seemed nice at first, but shes a hard grader, I wouldn't take her class again....
I do not like her.
This class is pretty easy. Attendance is mandatory though and she's strict on it. She gives tons of extra credit, and for her essay's she pretty much only grades on grammar. Overall her class was really boring, but an easy passing grade if you do the work
Honestly, with WRT 150 I strongly recommend trying to test out. This class was a joke. We went over "grammar" aka periods, commas, capitalization, anything you should have learned in elementary school every day. Borner is not a nice lady, but she gives tons of extra credit. Watch out though, grades only on grammar and gets harder each paper
Take this class if and only if you're bad at Writing. She only grades on grammar and if you are a poor writer you will most likely get a grade way higher than in another class, but good writers beware. You will be bored to death and since most of you will be better writers than her she will grade you harsher than you deserve.
She is a very good professor. She's helpful and nice. Offers a lot of extra credit. Grades a bit harsh, but mainly on grammar skills not writing skills. Overall I liked her and I did become a btter writter from this class.
She is a very good teacher. She gives out extra credit but her grading is very annoying. She basically looks at the first 2 pages of your essay and then doesn't mark anything else on the rest. I would start writing her essays like 5 days before the due date. an you have random pop quizzes and you get to use the book usually 5 questions
VERY HARD GRADER. I am a decent writer and she grades everything tough. Her random pop quizzes make no sense whatsoever. She makes them tricky, so don't be fooled. She gives out extra credits a lot but I really don't think they help much.
She is a good teacher, but a harsh grader on papers & projects. She really puts an emphasis on APA format, so there is no way you will walk out of there without knowing it. She has random pop quizzes but they are based on the reading and open book. Make sure you go to class and do all of the online activities, you will get marked down if you dont.
Attendance is mandatory. You should always come to class. In the beginning of semester she gives a lot of extra credit, but after apa style she doesn't give any extra credit anymore. You have to email her a lot if you don't understand the assignments she gives. She gives pop quizzes but they aren't hard its open notes and open book.A HARSH GRADER.
Has pop quizzes but they are easy (open book & notes) & they're not a surprise b/c they always follow any reading assignments given. Gives out EC in the beginning of the semester- take advantage of that. Is a hard grader but follow her grading rubric & you'll be fine. Gives random weekend assignments that have no point. I'd take her again.
She will go above and beyond to see you succeed if you give her the chance. Go to her office hours to go over papers. This magically bumped up my grade. Pop quizzes after each reading but they are easy. Make sure you do the random pointless assignments she assigns. they never take that long.
She is very nice and makes a boring class interesting and fun. I would recommend her. There are pop quizzes at the start of class about the reading (open book/note quizzes). Her grading for essays is moderate. At times she can be a little tough on grading compared to my friend's professors. I would still take her again though.
I'm not even done with the semester and I cannot stand her. She grades papers entirely too hard. And when help is needed on a paper, I email her and she takes hours to respond even though she says on the syllabus that email is the best way to reach her. Avoid her!
Attendance is mandatory and there are quizzes most days early in the semester, but they are easy to ace. However, in papers she grades tough on things not mentioned on syllabus, and she doesn't grade for quality of writing/language so pay close attention to your grammar and use of APA citations. I would not reccommend her for this class.
Professor Borner is a great teacher. Yes, she grades hard, but fair. If you go to see her during office hours, you'll do MUCH better on papers. She really wants to help you get a good grade. Id recommend her to anyone!
Professor Borner is helpful and a generally nice person, but I would not recommend her class. Nearly all of class time is spent reading from slides, and she grades on nit picky things that are not even covered in class. If you want a good grade, go to her office hours and do the extra credit at the beginning of the semester!
Borner was a good professor. Long lectures. Lots of quizzes (open book) and online assignments to boost your grade. Final project was a drag but I made out with a 3.5.
Overall, I recommend Prof. Borner for WRT 160. PROS: Nice lady. Pop quizzes are easy. Very helpful and clear. Lots of extra credit if you come to class. CONS: She literally lectures straight out of the reading we would do the night before, so it's like a waste to come to class, except that if you miss around 6 classes, you get a 0 in the class.
There were periodically pop quizzes. I feel she could have given us longer for certain assignments. Most lecture classes were just review, and if you read the assigned work, you did not really need to come to class.
Mrs Borner is very nice lady and quality teacher. She offers multiple chances for extra credit along with very easy online homework each week (15 min to complete tops) which really helps pad your grade. SHE DOES GRADE VERY TOUGH THOUGH, FOLLOW HER INSTRUCTIONS. Pop quizes all the time but you get to use the source material. I recommend her.
I am a pretty smart student, but Borner was difficult with her grading. The content of your papers don't matter at all, the only thing she grades is grammar. Writing Center went through papers numerous times and still get low grades... Ended with a decent grade due to EC... Don't take her she is pretty hard!
Shes a tough grader. She doesnt care for content as much as she does for grammar! if you go to her during her office hours she'll correct a lot of the errors and you'll do much better on papers. Lots of pop quizzes in the beginning.
She doesn't say what she wants, she gives out false information and then takes off points when you get the assignment wrong, and she has an unhelpful attitude.
Horrible teacher and grader. She doesn't explain anything good, she grades unfairly, she will assign like 3 papers all due at the same time, never know what's going on, doesn't explain when things are due, and scattered all the time.
She does not clearly state the criteria of each assignment. She is also an extremely tough grader who will pick out every single flaw without proper instruction as to how to fix your writing. Also, don't expect a lot of help from her period. Good luck taking this course with her, you're basically teach yourself with poor support from her.
Tough grader! Be prepared to making writing appoitments in the library that is the only way you can get a high B. She is unclear with what she wants from you for the assignment and then marks you down. She is very particular about grammar and a lot of your paper is based on it. Not a professor I would recommend.
I did not like her at all. She is a tough grader and is very hard to get in contact with via email. I had help elsewhere because she was never available to help me out. I still managed to get a B in the class and that was with only missing one or two classes. I do not recommend.
Pop quizes everyday! She makes all the tests and quizzes open book and open note. She grades papers very tough and doesn't read the actual content of the paper, she cares more about the grammar and works cited page then anything. We wrote far more essays then any other class and learned very stupid and useless things not need for a WRT150 class.
Tough grader. A papers content could be solid, but if the grammer is off, you will never do well. She gives obnoxious pop quizzes over random info.
Class was fairly easy, the pop quizzes are easy if you do the reading
She's a really nice lady, the class is not insanely hard but when taking this course with a three overwhelming other courses the work load is ridiculous. She gives unnecessary work and is sometimes unclear of what she expects from you. She is a very tough grader on essays and gives pop quizzes at least once a week. Would not recommend.
Claims to be easy and fun first day! Beware! She rarely gave rubrics and if she did she made up her grading scale. I went to the writers lab and still failed a paper. Do not take with her. I'm normally a 4.0 student and I failed this class. I did not miss. I turned in my assignments. Switch now.
This past spring I was in her WRT160 class. I felt the work load was substantial and sometimes over-kill. She has a tendency to be a tough grader on the essay's you will submit. Be careful and make sure your grammar is proper and correct. She checked more for grammar in the essay as opposed for content.
Overall she is a solid professor. Everything is open book, lots of petty pop quizzes. Easy class, but attendance is graded so you have to show up. Lots of extra credit in group work too
Tough grader, and the entire semester was centered around a group project. Groups were her choice. Extra credit available. Should have gone to office hours to get feedback on papers prior to turning them in, would have improved some of the grades I received.
Showing up is mandatory. Lots and lots of work and assignments, too many. Should be worth more credit. She is a tough grader but there are lots of extra credit opportunities in this class, be sure to do them.
The funeral of a family member is not an acceptable reason to miss class. Also she marks you absent for the class if you don't complete all moodle assignments, even if you did go to class.
Tough grader. Pop quizzes at the exact time class starts once in a while. Unclear expectations on writing assignments. Lots of online moodle assignments. Do all of the extra credit, there's lots of opportunities.
I really liked that she was so enthusiastic and made class fun. Go to her office hours. She'll help you with anything. This was one of the best classes I've ever taken at OU. Fridays were online classes so you didn't even have to go to class. Just do the Friday Moodle work, which was also a lot of fun.
We had three major projects a rhetorical analysis paper, the Fab 500 project, and the portfolio. It was a pretty easy class and lots of fun. We worked on projects that were similar to things you might find in the real world. She gave great feedback. She really cares about her students. Love this professor!
great prof! She had lots of extra credit. We did a lot of group work that was fun and earned a lot of extra credit points in the groups. Every assignment was clearly spelled out to what we had to do. Loved this pr
I'm in WRT 160 right now. This is the best teacher I've EVER had. She's really great at giving the info and making sure you succeed. I was struggling in this class but she worked with me a lot. This is one of the few teachers that really wants her students to pass.
I am a normal 3.8 student and she made sure to make my time in the class hell. I am a very good public speaker, and she failed me on my presentation. She has things against people who stand up and challenge her for why you got that grade. Would strongly say switch profs ASAP.
Great class. I aced it. Really easy and fun. Lots of extra credit. Professor Borner really cares a lot about her students. She even let us make up work that we did bad on. Take her. You'll love her.
Professor Borner was a really great teacher. I especially liked her personality. She was fun and made the class fun. She's one of the most caring teachers I've ever had. She went above and beyond to make sure you pass. If you're a struggling student like I am, go to her office hours. She'll personally help you with assignments.
i had her in the fall for WRT 150. She was a great teacher, amazingly easy to talk to. This was one of the best classes I ever had. She made it fun and gave lots of extra credit. She'll help you a lot if you go to her office hours. She's got a great personality too. Makes being in her class fun and easy.
Neither a bad professor nor an excellent professor. Not too challenging of a class for me personally, but if you miss a certain number of days, it can greatly affect your grade. The professor and the class lectures were boring most of the time, but had small moments of fun here and there. Have good attendance, do the work, and you'll be fine.
I took her for both WRT 150 and WRT 160 and passed with A's. She is amazing. So easy, affordable book and met amazing people in her class. She puts you in groups for WRT 160 all semester and it's so much fun. Not even considered a class. She would bring snacks for us too. Amazing amazing amazing. Do take her. Worth your money.
Random easy pop quizzes. You need the text book for the pop quizzes but it's cheap. Attendance is mandatory. Just do your essays & moodle work and you'll be fine. It's kinda a lot of work but nothing too challenging. I got a B in this class. She puts you in groups for the entire semester so you make friends. I personally like her. Would take again.
She's very nice, just expects quite a lot from her students. Made material relevant and easy to understand. Get ready to write your butt off.
She is a really tough grader and expects a lot from you. She doesn't explain her assignments clearly and when you ask her a question she gets mad or she makes you feel dumb. She also gives waaayyyy too much homework assignments all at once.
Nice lady, but Its a lot of busy work. If you work hard you should do fine but for most of us, we have harder classes to focus on. Shes a very tough grader. I got a B and Im an A student. There are definitely easier professors for composition at OU especially because this is just a gen ed.
This was far and away one of my best classes. We did so much stuff in this class. I loved it. She's easy to talk to. Go to her office hours. You'll do better. She's fun and enthusiastic. Wish I could've had her for all my classes!
Borner is passionate about teaching. She is approachable and offers extra credit. Paper requirements are long, however. Heard that she gives better grades the more often you see her outside of class.
Borner is a wonderful professor, she made a subject I don't like into my favorite class. She does give quizzes but they aren't always daily. You never have to actually read the material because it's open book or you can use your technology. Assignments are easy so as long as you do the work this class is so easy.
One of the nicest professors I've encountered. She listens to you and understand you. The only negative thing about this professor is her grading. She is a very TOUGH GRADER and I really mean it. I've been an A student my whole life and barely passed WRT 150 with a B. Her feedbacks are very helpful.
Overall a great professor that I am taking again for WRT1060. She is very clear about what she wants and if you meet all the requirements for the papers you will do very well. Lots of super easy pop quizzes and there's no finals or tests.
What she expects on her assignments is always unclear. She gives a lot of pop quizzes and so much homework. The way she grades is absurd, half the time I got bad grades for grammar and not the actual content of my paper.
She is very unclear on what she wants for projects. She grades very harshly, if you have one grammar issue she marks you down 5 points or more.
Marilyn is a different species. This semester we did minimal work for the first eight weeks and slammed us with work out of the blue. It is very unfair of her do expect this amount of work at such a high quality in so little time. Run away. Run far away. She is vague in assignments and LOVES to mark you down just to see you suffer.
She has a lot of passion for rhetoric and gives a lot of extra credit. Borner is very understanding and chill when it comes to criticism. The downside of this class is the amount of work that is assigned, you will never have free time.
She's awesome! Best teacher I ever had. She really loves to teach, you can tell. I'd take her again in a heartbeat. The work was a fair amount, but she really made it useful. It's like real work we'd do in the outside world. I think this was one of my favorite classes ever!
She is rude and really should not be allowed to be a college professor. She is not a good writer herself so how can she teach????? She doesn't follow her office hours she isn't there when she says she will be there which is extremely annoying.
Very chill/funny professor, but very sarcastic and blunt! Attendance is definitely mandatory, and she marks you down when you're late. Easy but interesting class periods, lots of opportunities for extra credit. Be ready for presentations and in-class peer review! Papers aren't that bad, she tries to be as clear as possible. Heavy but easy workload!
Borner is a good professor, I am currently in her WRT 1050 class and enrolled in her WRT 1060 class for next semester. I'm confident in her ability to teach and provide feedback. She clearly knows her stuff and, though she is awkward at times, can clearly correspond with students in a professional yet interesting manner. The work load is normal.
Way too much work for a gen edu requirement, and she is a super hard grader
Her class sucked. It was easy, but she's an annoying grader. Gives you a 99 instead of a 100. Doesn't explain her assignments. Always puts you in groups. Very annoying since it was an online class. Does give extra which is nice. Honestly, only take her if no one else is available.
Best prof I've ever had! I'd highly recommend! Loved this class. It was super fun and lots of extra credit. She's very interested in her students passing. I had her for WRT 1050 and took her again for 1060 because I loved the class so much.
In class is work is okay but there are many useless assignments throughout the semester. If you don't know APA style I wouldn't recommend her because she grades really tough. Overall isn't the worst class I've taken.
worst thing
You literally have to be perfect for her to give you an A.
She takes big points off for minor mistakes! Its really hard to get an A in her class.
I would not recommend taking professor Borner unless you want to stress about a class. Don't ask for her feedback unless you want to cry. There are nice ways to give constructive criticism which she can't do.
This class was one of the worst experience I've had during the start of my college year. You will be doused with essays, and the revision essays are longer than the ACTUAL ESSAY! Take this class if you hate your life.
I met with on Google Meet many times and she was wonderful to work with! I'd take her again and again. Wish she taught more classes. Her rubrics were easy to understand and great! Take this class if you want an easy A.
This professor gives a crazy amount of homework, projects, essays, etc. You can barley keep up. She is a really harsh grader. She will mark you down by so much for minor mistakes. She also changes her instructions and rubrics out of nowhere, and make no sense. This professor and class will make your life miserable and give you a lot of stress.
Professor Borner is one of the best and most caring professors I've had so far. She can be a precise grader for the papers she assigns, but you can schedule meetings with her and gives you great feedback. Every time I met up with her to check on my paper, I ended up getting a 100 on it. She also gives lots of extra credit points!
I took this class my first semester and got an F worked pretty much just as hard the next semester with a different professor and got an A- in the class. I would spend hours on these papers, and she would grade me like I didn't even touch them. Do not take if you value your money and time.
1. Way too many essays and assignments for the beginner English class. You'll have 3 assignments per week, some are short, and some are multiple-page long essays. 2. Lectures are useless. Nothing is taught, just goes over the requirements for an essay every now and then. 3. Lazy and harsh grading; sets you up to do poorly. Do. Not. Take.
Grading criteria is extremely unclear; practically makes things up to give you a lower grade. Due dates are never updated or clear. For a general education class, there are way too many essays and it WILL drop your GPA. Do not take this professor. She is terrible at writing as well with lots of spelling mistakes. Should not be able to judge others.
This is one of the best professors I ever took. She's amazing. You email her and she gets back to you within an hour. It was a great class and very easy. Bonus: lots of extra credit.
Gives too much busywork and since the course was completely asynchronous, it was difficult to keep up. She does not have a proper organization system even though she gives a lot of work that is a waste of time and does not teach students much. Additionally, she comes up with random group projects in completely online classes which makes no sense.
The class started okay, was easy, assignments were well setup and had clear easy to follow directions, and then the end of the semester rolled around and the class turned into an absolute nightmare. Four huge projects all worth at least 150 points, with no preparation at all, no clear due dates, and unclear directions. Would not recommend.
SO many breakout rooms, but there is a lot of extra credit you can earn. The extra credit really helped a lot. You can maybe pass without the Grizzwrites book, but she does use it a lot during class for breakout rooms. Lots of papers, try to get Dr.Smith instead because he's significantly better.
Grades unreasonably and hard
Not very understanding and unreasonable amount of work required.
Prof. Borner was amazing. She offers tons of extra credit. I took her synchronous online course. You have to join zoom meetings, participate, and listen when she's going over stuff. Overall an amazing professor, cares about her students, wants them to pass. Although there are a lot of breakout rooms, it helps build the class. Loved having her!
I do feel like she was a really good teacher she always gave out extra credit but when it comes down to assignments she grades really hard and essay be worth half of your grade I have to retake the class over after spending so much time on essay after essay I don't recommend taking unless you want to stress 24/7.
Honestly, her class would've been okay but she's very nitpicky and will grade as low as possible without appearing biased. Easily threatened by proficient writers/presenters.
Professor Borner runs a challenging course, but provides helpful feedback. The workload can be heavy, but utilizing resources like Unstuck AI alongside the textbook can make a big difference. Overall, it's a demanding class but manageable with effort.
Horribly tough grader, you will pour your heart and soul into a paper and then receive an unfairly low grade. She practically makes up things to mark you down on that weren't stated on the rubric, tries to validate these markdowns by giving unclear feedback that is very broad. It is discouraging for my best work to never be enough.
She is a very hard and unfair (at times) grader. She isn't always clear on her expectations for assignments and will take off a lot of points for minor things (some of which aren't on the rubric/directions). That being said, she offers a lot of easy extra credit as long as you participate during class. She is also very timely when answering emails.
Do not recomend!
Took her for both WRT 1050 and 1060, she is fair with grading, her rubrics as long as you follow them word for word you will get a good grade on the projects. 1060 is somewhat more difficult than 1050, but as long as you turn in assigned work on time and follow the rubric you will earn a good grade. Offers tons of extra credit too!
thought this class would be an easy GPA booster, but she's actually a tough grader. You really have to put in the work, or she'll fail you. Doing the bare minimum won't cut it. She expects effort, but the good thing is she offers a lot of extra credit. Attendance is also super important. she's also nice and understanding if you communicate
She does not care about her students. Very Rude to me from the moment I entered her class. I started late, due to a schedule change that was on OU, not me. She is very unforgiving and quite rude.
She's cool but if you just want a chill give you an A for effort type of teacher she not for you cause she'll be blunt in her feedback real quick you actually have to try but shes worth it though, shes a nice lady can be a tad rude but its not terrible.
