Plusses: Gives you molecular models to play with, class is pretty interactive, also VERY EASY with grades Minuses: Generally unclear and disorganized presentation of material.
she doesn't care about the students, just go and ask her a question and you'll know what i mean! the tests are easy though. take her if you have a good chemistry background, you can hardly learn anything in her class. VERY UNCLEAR AND UNORGONIZED WAY OF TEACHING. i wouldn't recommand her at all!
Dr. Cox is acutally a good teacher. She explains material fairly clearly and her tests arn't that bad. Turtle turtle.
very easy teacher, she will give you bonus points when you don't want it! she curved the final grades 10 points. do your owls, and you don't have to swet for a B in her class. the tests are fairly easy. she is usually very unclear and unorgonized, when it comes to teaching though. very fun class.

Dr. Cox is an excellent teacher. She explains anything that you don't under stand. But You really don't have a choice of teacher when taking organic series. So make the best of it. She'll help you out tremendously.
I agree with the last kid. She is extremely easy to work with and she will also give you a ton of bonus points. So even if you have a C in the class it is possible that you could come out of that class with an A.
good teacher

SHE CAN'T EXPLAIN ANYTHING. SHE IS SO CONFUSED HERSELF. BUT IS THE ONLY ORGANIC TEACHER AT TECH SO IT SUCKS REALLY REALLY BAD!
COX, hate to say it, is the worst, boring, and most confusing teacher. She even hates to see students in her office.
Hahaha, this lady is crazy. She'll keep you up in class though with her hilarious comments. Don't worry about studying for her organic chem tests...just do the optional OWL and chapter tests for bonus - you'll get an A. She gives almost too much bonus, but I guess she has to b/c her tests are impossible! Love that crazy lady.
She doesn't know anything the fact that she's a doctor still amazes me, but take her class if you want an A+ because her test are super easy
She's Horrible. SHe can't teach. Her tests are really hard. She makes no sense whatsoever. But if you have to take organic you have no choice...it just sucks bad...you wont' learn anything and it really hard to get a good grade.
why is she even a teacher? She should take up a different profession. It's too bad we are stuck with her in the organic chemistry series..........
there are no words to describe how horrible this class is. the fact that the material is not well delivered, the test are tooooo.......hard and you do not learn anything is very annoying.going for another profession instead of frustrating herself and the students as a teacher , should be the best option for her. too bad!!!!!!!!!!
This class is hard-face it-Organic Chemistry is hard. She could use a little more experience with teaching the material-needs to be a little more clear. However, you can get what you need out of this class---instead of complaining about her-read the chapters and get other text (if you are going to take the MCAT) and use it as a secondary source.
This woman needs to get a degree in education and learn how to teach! I feel like I'm teaching myself. She's very unclear and she acts like we should know more than we've been taught. She skips around(unorganized). She slurs her words(unclear). However, her test are easy and she gives a lot of bonus. Easy A if you teach yourself. Buy The Suppl. SG!
A great teacher! Her classes are a joy to attend and she makes the difficult material fun and easy. She is very nice, even outside of class--she will remember your name quarters later. Her labs are also fun and interesting--she doesn't treat you like a baby with the lab equipment. Highly recommended!
ok, how can I put it..... definately do not take her if you dont have to, she is a loon, she should be teaching Pre-K or Kindergarten, I heard that she actually used to sub for Monroe High School, the problem is she doesnt know half of what she 's teaching, she is always guessing at her problems(she will tell you that)
i don't understand why they are paying her. they should be paying us because we have to teach ourself anyways! she doesn't wanna help and she assumes you are already a organic chemistry whiz. if anyone is taking this class jus be prepared to stress and teach yourself because you will get no understanding of it from her!
This class was weird u have to teach yourself everything, my advice is that u take her notes as a guide and go thru the testbook for explanations and examples. The essay part of the test is just like the worksheet, but the multiple choice is mad hard, made sure you keep minor details in mind (and note any exeptions to the rule, it pops alot)
the class is not as bad as i thought.. i was worried at first but with the curve the class ended up making alot of A's and B's.. Just study and dont be lazy in her class and everything will pay off.. Read the book for better understanding and do all of the worksheets ahead of time..Shes not as bad as many people make her out to be...
great teacher! tries to help at best she can!! if you dont come class and dont pay attention when you do, then dont expect her to be nice when you ask questions! i wouldnt be either! other than that she is a great teacher. very easy if you study even a little
She was great for 250 and all of the organic lab series, but this class was terrible! She seemed to hate teaching her students and acted like we were annoying her by asking questions. The subject matter was overly difficult and the study sheets did not help for her tests which were nearly impossible without a perfect understanding of the subject.
Sure the class is hard, but it's the nature of the course. Dr. Cox is only doing what she must. She could try not to talk in a monotone. The horror stories are a bit exaggerated. If you go ask her about something, she will try to help.
She's not as bad as most people say. I didn't like taking her for 250; after I got used to her teaching style, it was better. She makes organic chemistry a lot easier than it could be. Be warned: her multiple choice questions usually seem a little random and nit picky.
The hardest and worst teacher of my life. She will speed through an entire two chapters in a day, without giving ample time for understanding or explanation. When you ask her a question, she will speak in this monotone voice with an explanation that often leaves you worse off than before you ask. Also, no laptops are allowed! Get with the times.
She is completely in her own world most of the time. She can not explain anything she teaches, when someone asks a question she tells them to look in the book. Her exams are not on the lectures and often have insignificant information, when she says "this probably will NOT be on the test" IT IS on the test!! Serious ADD issues. DONT TAKE HER CLASS!
She's highly random and difficult. She can't teach - face it, it's true. Her tests are hard, the scantron part she doesn't even teach. She is monotoned and boring. Good ratings? Only because she USED to give out bonus points! She doesn't care about attendance, so don't bother coming...unless you have a D that is....
She was very unclear and got frustrated when people would ask questions. However, she posted the notes up on blackboard for every test. I just studied the notes she put on blackboard and made an A in the class.
I dont care what any of you say. She is hard as she can possibly be...I studied forever and got the lowest B in the class. Normally I am a good student and her terrible teaching helps none. She is worthless when it comes to explaining stuff and her test are rediculous. I didnt miss a single class period and I still couldnt understand her.
I think she is a fantastic professor. She is down to earth and tries to make the class enjoyable. Face it, this is a tough subject. Dr. Cox used to go out of her way to help students in her classes but why bother when noone appreciates it!
Dr. Cox is great teacher. She is not as bad as everyone says. All you have to do is continuously review the material you have already covered in class, and stay up to date. The whole point of organic chemistry is to learn the nomenclature and the reactions. If you can do that then you can make an A.
Oh come on people! Organic is a hard subject. She knows the material backwards and forwards and will help you in any way she can. Attendance is required for success in the entire Organic series. The book can only get you so far. She is a bit disorganized at times, but so are most teachers.
Dr. Cox is an OK teacher. Her exams are not too bad. Make sure you read the chapters for the Scantron part. You have to remember everything you have learned from day 1...just keep up and you can get an easy B.
Great Professor. Enjoyed her dry humor. If you really put forth an effort you'll get an A. Come to class. It may not be mandatory but it shows her that your trying.
She seems like a sweet lady, but she confuses the heck out of me. I was somewhat decent at chemistry in highschool, and now after listening to her "explain" the basic stuff, I have no idea what to do. She makes the simplest things so confusing. I've been told she is great at teaching upper level chemistry, but for this class i would try to switch.
Her class may not be difficult for chemistry majors, but for everyone else out there that has to take this stupid class she is horrible! Not everyone enjoys chemistry as a degree component. She makes it a lot more difficult than it has to be. Will not answer questions in class. Took organic at another univ. and got an A with no problem!!
Had her my very first quarter at Tech and needless to say, left with a very bad impression of the chemistry department. This woman was horrible. I basically had to teach myself the material, thankfully I was just out of high school and remembered some basic chemistry. Really wish Tech could hire someone else to teach this class.
I thought the class material was extremely easy......like middle school material at some points!! A lot of people thought she was hard, but I did not think it was bad at all. She gives test reviews and review days before the tests and bonus quizzes as well. If you work hard, there is no way not to do well in this class.
This is the absolute worst excuse for an organic class ever..... Many people will quit trying to go to med school due to this teacher and class...I strongly recommend that you take this organic series at ULM or Grambling..... I dont know how she is still teaching.... She is a really sweet person.. But by far the worst most ineffective teacher ever
Shes very sweet, but not an efficient teacher by any means. Most of what she does is read off of slides (that she didn't even make, mind you). She doesn't answer questions very clearly, and sometimes acts like we're already supposed to know the material.
One of the most ineffective teachers I have ever taken. Organic Chem is hard but she makes it even harder. Just face it! She is not born to be a teacher. She might know her stuff but she cannot teach. Her tests are hard and goes beyond the materials she taught in class. Don't take her. Never.
She is the best teacher ever, the class is hard but she makes the class interesting. I like her dry humor and she really cares that you get the material. Study and ask question and will do great on the class.
I am not sure if Louisiana Tech wants doctors, dentists, pharmacist, or any people who generally need O.chem. Dr Cox is a terrible teacher. Everything thing you learn you forget. She is an extremely ineffective teacher. I wish very much that Tech hires a new teacher.
Terrible teacher. Totally unorganized and random. Doesn't have any grading policy. Wouldn't take her next time.
One of the worst professor i've ever seen in my life.... Knows a lot but doesn't know how to teach... Not a single class i didn't sleep.... Boring.....Unorganised.... U better not take this class...... if u wanna take this class... make sure u work really hard..
Dr. Cox knows what she is talking about but doesn't explain material well. Helps some, but still confuses people. Boring, dull tones when speaking and I would not recommend taking her class unless she's the only professor offered.
She's tough but helpful when you talk to her. Just memorize the reaction summaries in the textbook, and you will do fine.
Had I not had a great chemistry teacher in high school, i probably would have failed this class. She does not explain things very well and hardly ever actually answers questions. try to avoid taking this class if you actually want to learn chemistry
I love Dr. Cox! Sure Organic Chemistry is a challenging subject, but she does everything in her power to help students with their grades. She gives a TON of Extra credit/bonus points. Tests are difficult but they are usually curved. PRACTICE reactions in the book & pay attention! Easy A.
Dr. Cox is a great teacher. She teaches a very difficult subject and in order to pass you must study, study, study, come to class, and read the book. If you pay attention to what she is doing and says she will provide you with all the test material. Her tests are not EASY but are very straight forward and if you have studied you will pass.
she is horrible, her voice is hard to track with. if u wanna understand what she is teaching read book ahead. i had to teach myself and passed the class.
Good teacher.Very funny.
Organic Chem is a super hard series. She's not a terrible teacher, but this class definitely requires a LOT of out of class time to teach yourself the material. Her notes on the board seem really scattered and unorganized. Tests are pretty tough with lots of drawing out reactions and molecules, but they are usually curved.
Just awful. She knows what she is doing (I think), but cant convey it to students. She does try to help with grades (with extra credit and such), but its too hard of a subject to not teach it. Hopefully, if you take her, you can teach yourself... that's the only way to be successful.
Terrible teacher!! Avoid her if you can. She does not teach at all and puts random things on the test that we have never seen or talked about. It is possible to make an A in the class but you have to read the book and teach yourself.
Awful. Follows a PowerPoint in class, but it doesn't help. Get the book and solutions manual and teach yourself... It's the only way to come out alive
She isnt THAT bad. The material & tests are hard, & she cant always explain things very well, but she is actually pretty reasonable. I think people misinterpret her sense of humor as her not caring. She curves A LOT & if everyone does poorly she gives a 20-25 point bonus quiz. Just study the slides, UNDERSTAND the reactions, work LOTS of problems!
Dr. Cox is a great person, she really is, but she's just not good at conveying the material to students in a clear manner. The textbook and solutions manual will save your life. Her tests are pretty tough compared to what she goes over in class, but if you pay attention and study, it isn't as bad as everyone says it is.
Test are extremely hard but bonus is given
Anyone who complains about Cox should not be in college. She gives so many examples that every reaction is drilled in your head before each test. Honestly, the key to her class is to study the basic mechanisms for each chapter, then the individual reactions become so much easier! People make the mistake of memorizing every individual reaction.
Absolute worst class I have ever been a part of. I have only made two B's (the rest all A's), yet I ended with a D in the class. She is a sweet lady, but she is DEFINITELY in the wrong profession. Terrible teacher. Terrible class. Be prepared to teach yourself (if that's even possible). Not kidding.
I ended up having to drop this class because I just didn't like her teaching. Retaking it with McMullan.
COX IS A GREAT TEACHER. SURE, SHE CAN BE CONFUSING AT TIME. BUT SHE IS MORE THAN WILLING TO WORK WITH YOU. AND GIVES EXTRA CREDT LIKE CRAZY! JUST SHOW UP AND PAY ATTENTION AND DO THE HOMEWORK AND YOURE SURE TO PASS HER CLASS
Her tests are difficult because she makes them herself, but if you do the study guides she gives you and really study from the book it is super easy to make a good grade in this class. She is kind of boring and her sense of humor is dry, but overall you do actually learn organic in her class. Best organic teacher hands down, and gives bonus.
She doesn't teach well. If you're good at general chemistry, you will be fine. I took AP chemistry in high school, read the book this past quarter, and made a solid A. If you are not good at chemistry, DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! She is very confusing to those who don't understand chemistry as well.
Not a very good teacher if you already know the material and just want to sign a roll leave and then take the tests this is probably your class. Her lectures typically result In everyone (including herself) being confused and her using so weird analogy to try to explain the concept. I would not her class again I basically taught myself this class.
Cox wants to see you pass, but just isnt capable of doing so. Many times during class I take notes. Get to the homework and have no idea what it was asking for except for the rare few. So in all honesty, THE BOOK IS A MUST IT IS YOUR PROFESSOR. Even when doing homework in comp. lab she would just tell me what to do and not explain anything.........
Unable to explain topics clearly. Skips important details during lectures. You have to teach yourself. Read your textbook during class instead of listening to the lecture and you'll be fine.
Her tests are usually tough, but she almost always gives a HUGE curve to make up for it. She gives weird examples. She acts as though organic is some long story she has to tell and every atom is a character in it. Overall, she's not a bad teacher. If you can make it past the first organic, the others aren't bad.
You have to grow to like her class. It's unfortunate, but just like with any other professor, you have to learn her way of doing things and utilize that however you can. She's not good at teaching but is very helpful on an individual level if you show concern. If anything, her class got me motivated to learn the material and I appreciate that.
Dr. Cox knows her stuff, but isn't the best at communicating it. The book is extremely helpful in this class; you kind of have to teach yourself. She does put up worksheets to practice on before the test that are very useful, and gives very good curves on the tests. There's also lots of bonus homework, so an A is possible, but the material is hard.
I think she is good at what she does! I only needed her power points and the lecture notes to pass the tests. Do your homework and all the extra credit ( she gives you a ton) and get a grade bump, mine went from a B to an A. The Practice sheets before the tests are very useful and she gives big curves as well as lots of help outside of class.
Dr. Cox's lecture, while exceedingly boring, do help you learn the material. The people saying you won't be able to do homework obviously did pay attention in class. As for bonus, there were people who didn't even need to take the final for an A there was so much of it. If you want a blow off class, here ya go.
I loved Dr. Cox! Not the most amazing lectures, but organic itself is a lot of memorization. As long as you make sure that you understand the homework, you should do well on the test. She knows how boring organic can be, and honestly just wants you to be able to get through it, so she gives a lot of extra credit. I actually learned in her class.
While Dr. Cox may know a lot about Organic Chemistry she does not know how to relay it or explain it in any way shape or form. She will go through lengthily powerpoints very quick and tells you that you dont need to know things and it enevitably show up on the test. She gets mad when you do ask for help and your grades arent right on Moodle.
Knows material, doesnt know how to explain it.
Dr. Cox is a solid option for the Organic Chemistry series. You will have to put in a fair amount of effort to learn the material but her tests often have up to 40 bonus points. Bonus quizzes are frequent and do all of the homework as that will as well be bonus. Study hard for the first few tests so you can relax for the last test.
Schedule was structured rather oddly, assingments covering certain material were due before she would actually teach them in lecture. Most of what you learn you will learn thru assignments but the assingments are comprehensive and cover everthing will you need to know for the tests. Recommend getting solutions manual for textbook
She'll "teach you everything you need to know", but beware she'll act you're the biggest inconvenience every time you ask a question in class. If you have a tutor, or the time to really invest in this class with reading material every day, then you should be fine.
I do not recommend. She gets aggravated anytime anyone asks a question. She does not give good examples to help clear up concepts. Not a good teacher in general. I stopped attending class and taught myself better than she did.
Cox is definitely my preferred organic professor. She gives so many examples in class and a bunch of outside work that is both required and extra credit so that you can practice the material from class. She is super organized in lecture and makes sure you learn what is on the exam. Lazy students hate her but ones who actually try do well.
I have never worked so hard for a B in my life. Words cannot describe how miserable I was for the whole quarter while studying more than I ever have for a class, just to end up doing horrible on the test every time. I have gotten an A in both of the other Ochems, which I took with another professor. Good luck if you decide to take Cox.
Cox's OChem lab was very simple. Her pre-lab lectures were very straightforward, and the labs weren't overly complicated and were actually interesting. The TA in the lab was very helpful to any questions, and the lab notebook was there to outline the procedures. Lab reports were super simple, but be sure you know general OChem for the final.
If you have a pretty good understanding of chemistry already, take Cox. If you don't, take another teacher. Her lectures can be all over the place and she doesn't follow the textbook (given on moodle) very well. She's a kind lady and is obviously good at chemistry, but she struggles to help struggling students understand.
I LOVE Dr. Cox! Everyone who gave her a poor rating didn't try, I promise. I thought I was bad at organic chemistry, but when I got to her class I actually learned! It is easy to get an A if you study her practice sheets and PowerPoints. She gives SO much extra credit opportunities and grades fairly. She's just an unintentionally funny person too
Do not take cox if you struggle with chemistry. You will have to teach yourself. she offers a lot of extra credit on both exams and homework. The way she grades is very unclear, what she says in class does not match what the syllabus says. Personally, I did horrible in Ochem but other people did okay. Take PMac if able to to be safe.
Dr. Cox is great. Anyone who says otherwise did not give forth the needed effort. O Chem is hard no matter who you ask. I feel sorry for the younger people who will have to take STEPHENSON for o chem. Take PMAC when she retires no matter what. I am very lucky to have been able to take her!
Dr. Cox's class is tough, but with dedication and tools like unstuck ai, it's manageable. The material is challenging, but her lectures and practice sheets help you succeed. Just stay engaged and take advantage of the generous extra credit.
