She is pretty easy, and not that boring, but she has no structure to her lectures. Read the book to learn the information, b/c she'll rant for 2 hours about living in broklyn or some ****. She's usually pretty helpful though.

She is very out of it at lecture - talks to herself a lot and not to the class. She puts each lecture outline on the internet so you can have it before class. She also tells her everything that is on her test.

Makes you work hard. Most fun instructor I've had. She works hard for the students. Love to hear her New York stories. I'm amazed at how she tames all the TAs and makes them toe the line. Gets "best teacher" award. Nicer than other history

Very pleasant lady. Tests are very easy. Very Subjective grading on essays because each TA is different. Would stronly recommend.

Very smart lady. Should be department chair. Could be dean. She is a saint. She worked hard to make sure we knew the material. She practically gave away all the final exam info in advance. Take all the classes she gives.

Very good instructor. Teaches hundreds of students each quarter, and really enjoys her job. Inspires a lot of people to do their best. I give her an A, and a 10 out of 10.

This teacher is awesome, she tells you exactly what is going to be on the quizzes and midterms and then she will make sure everyone knows the answer to them! She is the best teacher I have had at OSU!

Other than Warren Van Tine, she has to be the second easiest history teacher at OSU. Still, she is clear and helpful. Gives you the whole test in advance if you just listen in class. Do youself a favor and take her to kill that stupid GEC history class!

Hegarty is the best. She will answer your questions. She will identify with you. She is patient and understanding. She won't talk over your head. She is better than all the male history professors in the history department. Take both 151 and 152 with her if you can. You won't be disappointed.

Dr. Hegarty is a very inspiring american history teacher. I truly believe that, unlike some professors, that she enjoys teaching and has a passion for the subject she teaches. She is awesome!

Go to Class, go to class. You will not know anything for the exams if you do not go to class. She tells you exactly what is on the tests. Quizes and papers difficult. RTAP reading BORING BORING BORING. Hard to get through unless you are interested in history.

I LOVE this teacher. She made me like history again. Go to class and she will pretty much tell you what is on the exam. :) She is funny too. BUt don't talk in class, she doesn't liek that very much.

She taught only the most important things we need to know about American history. Her class was interesting and I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to her 152 class next quarter. Great teacher for a GEC!

Can't go wrong w/ Hegarty! Extremely dedicated to teaching, incorporates humor in lecture, tells you exactly what will be tested (refer to study guide). Grading really depends on your TA, so pick a good recitation session.

if you are looking for easy and nice - take her. if you are looking for learning new and interesting information covering the historical events - take another teacher. great class if you just want an a. she does like to help and is liberal - so you are really against that kind of stuff - dont take it.

knows her stuff and opens the floor to questions. go to lecture, as she shows a lot of videos and sometimes takes attendance. the videos are clearly made by Democrats, but if you just study the history and not the politics, this class will be fine. also tells you answers to certain questions on the exams.

If you are looking for an easy and don't care if you learn anything then take this class. The class was easy but she is the worst lecturer that I have ever had. She couldn't keep my attention for 20 minutes.

Most boring teache in the world. Recitations are nothing but mandatory busy work, as nothing you learn there is on the midterms. She teaches her own interests (No readings or class time given to revolutionary war whatsoever, but an entire chapter (and paper) devoted to womens rights movement. Terrible Class, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

Boring lectures, but she has a good sense of humor. Just go to recitation, because that is where almost ALL the test info is covered and read the book.

Great teacher! Perfect for this course. She was engaging and had lots of knowledge and, best of all, she let the class discuss the readings. Be interested in this class before taking it and you will have a GREAT time! I almost cried on the last day because I will miss coming to class twice a week to have conversations with her and the class.

Great class...totally eye-opening. Lots of reading, and she could mumble off and lose your interest in lectures. Lots of in-class discussion, no exams, all papers, which she grades very easily. I'd recommend this class to anyone, if only for how eye-opening it is.

One of the best classes I've taken yet. No tests, only essays. I would take a class with Lyn anyday and would recommend her to anyone who is looking for the ideal college experience. You will learn a lot and the workload isn't too bad. Lots of reading.

Lectures aren't that clear because she doesn't teach cronologically, but the exams are really fair. She gives you 9 ids to study, 6 or which she put on the exam.

She's liberal, but if that's your style or you can put up with it, she's very easy. She gives you half the answers to the tests if you go to class. Also, it didn't hurt that I had the best TA I've ever had. If you can get Ryan Dawkins as your TA, do it. He's more knowledgeable than she is.

This class, if you're not good with history (like me), all depends on your TA. I had Matt Foulds, and he gave you ALL the info you needed for the test. As for Dr. Hegarty, she's basically good if you like history, and a little too boring if you don't. Two 5 page papers were 50% of your grade.

Very knowledgeable. Lots of information to digest, but pay attention. She really knows her stuff. We even saw short videos after which we wrote critiques. She gives everything away ahead of the tests. She tries to make it as easy as possible for everyone. You should try to get Dr. Hegarty for both 151 and 152 in this sequence.

she is great. not the most interesting prof ever but she tells you what will be on the exams and makes them easy. there are two 4 page papers that coult for most of your exam scores. i got a high b and i hate history

This class was soooo easy. She has one midterm which 50% is a take home essay, and same with the final, which she gives you on the last day of class. Personally I thought she was boring, but she isnt one of those teachers who's out to fail you. My TA was Doug, and he's pretty good at preparing you for quizes. Easy A.

This class really depends on your TA. Her objective midterm and exams are pretty easy but the essays are graded by the TAs. Also there are very hard reading quizzes in recitation each week. The questions asked from the readings come out of obscure little details. Try and take this class with Dr. Van tine instead.

really easy. it's good to go to lecture bc she gives away the test questions, but i still got an A with not going that much for the second half of the quarter. If you like history then I wouldn't recommend her because she's so unorganized in her thoughts that you don't really learn that much

Pretty Easy. Written Exams are very easy as long as you go over the study guide a little bit. Papers are worth more and are graded by your TA, so it's kinda luck of the draw there. Overall, should be an easy A or A- with any effort at all. She's funny and makes lecture easy to get through.

Really easy class. Gives a study guide for midterm and final, which besides recitations is the only grades. Don't need to go to class in order to get a good grade, just do the reading.

This class is soooo easy if you have a good TA. If you get the chance, def. take this class w/ Matt Foulds as your TA because he makes it impossible to fail. He doesn't believe in testing so he gives you all the answers to the reading quizzes, and has a great review before both the midterm and the final.

I thought she was a bit hard to follow. Her lectures would just be her just standing up there rambling, and it was hard to bring the book, rtap, and her lectures all together. She was very funny and laid back. Exams were managable, but overall your success in the class depended on your TA.

Doc is alot of fun, interesting to talk to outside of class. Willing to help her students succeed. Takes roll occasionally by passing around paper to sign in on. Didn't care for my TA though.

First history class I have ever enjoyed! AMAZING. Class is super easy.. exams are cake. Attendence was taken in lecture a few times and every recitation but I loved my TA so it was enjoyable. I learned so much. GREAT, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Dr. Hegarty had easy tests compared to the other teachers and that's the bottom line! Instead of the whole test being writing on terms and you either do good or bad at that she mixes it up and gives you an opportunity to do well in other aspects of the test like multiple choice, writing a pretty easy paper, and describing specific terms. Easy!

Easy tests! An easy recitation teacher makes a huge difference! Michael Hale was a piece of cake, he would give you answers to quizzes before givin them. Would take attendance at recitation but not at lecture. If you get a bad recitation teacher then you at least want Hegarty!

Prof. Hegarty seems like a very laid back person, which is probably why her exams are easy. Her tests and quizzes are multiple choice, fill in the blanks, ID's, and take-home essays. It would also be good to have an easy TA because (s)he grades everything.

Wonderful professor. Lots of information to process, but intelligently presented. Leniency in grading. Good movies; videos. Great at explaining at concepts. Good coordinator of the entire TA group. Always friendly and helpful to students. Approachable and lively. If you get a good grade, you have earned it. Down to earth; not arrogant.

This class is minimal work and easy tests the ta will "review" the answers to the test with you prior to taking it the midterms are 150 and 100 is the paper, quizes are easy if you read the information, 5 attendance points and attendance is completely pointless the lectures are terribly boring

TA's got to grade papers and were merciless. Regardless of your essay answers, they could've been verbatim, and they would've still marked them wrong. No incentive to come to class or to even read, Prof gave IDs for essays before taking exams. Easy to be a slacker and still get a passing grade.

The TAs are what made this class hard; they grade ridiculously difficult on the midterm & final (5 essays). If they did not grade so hard, the class would have been very easy as long as you read for the quizzes. She also gives the terms before the exams so that you can plan them beforehand. Class attendance is pointless. Pray for a good TA!

The TA's grade kind of hard, but other then that it is easy to get a good grade. You dont have to come to class but it helps because she tells you what will be on quizzes and other assignments.

This class is an easy A if you study smart, not hard! Get the info you need for the IDs from the book, and ask Prof. Hegarty & the graders for the answers they want. Just make sure your essays are written well, and MEMORIZE. It should be easy because YOU wrote them.

I think Dr. Hegarty in FABULOUS!! I would recommend her to any student taking history at Ohio State! She has been my favorite and best teacher since I have been in college!

She was really sweet, lectures weren't mandatory, and she puts helpful notes and reviews on Carmen. Exams are also nice: 4-5 page papers that you write at home, and a multiple choice test. She usually gives the prompt several weeks before the midterm and final. I would recommend her to anyone. I learned a lot.

She is a really nice lady and her class isn't very tough but as far as her teaching ability goes, she isnt the best. she knows what she's talking about but she kinda rambles on and on so its really hard to take notes (which you dont really need that much anyway). I would recommend her class, she is very easy going and it wont be tough

There are major rewards for attending class, as she gives hints about the midterm and final -- especially when attendance in lecture is low. There are study guides for both the midterm and final, which includes ID's for the essay questions. Hegarty is a sweetheart and even though I wasn't looking forward to history, I left having learned a lot!

Never went to lecture and got an A- in the class. Just go for reviews for midterm and do the review sheet, study it, and you'll be fine. Pretty easy class. Exams are take home paper and a small in class part consisting of fill ins, multiple choice, and short essays. Everything that is on test is given to you before hand.

This class was a joke. I maybe went to 3 lectures in total, but honestly dont even worry about going to the lectures and also dont ever print out her online notes. I got an A in this class just by reviewing the study guide which she posts bfor the exam and **read the text** and never missed a recitation. If u do all these you will def do fine

Her class is very easy and informational. I would suggest going to every class. Not only will you learn alot, she will also end up telling you what is on every test, and give extra credit some days attendance seems low. She is very witty and interesting.

While I'm sure Dr. Hegarty does a great job teaching Hist 151+152, Hist 526 is her true love. I thought people were crazy when they said they were sad to leave on the last day of class, but now I know what they are talking about. Such an eye-opening class that is low stress. I hate history, but this has been my favorite class at OSU.

AMAZING person. If you are ever fortunate enough to have the opportunity to take her class... DO IT. She is truly an inspiration and a wonderful teacher. I did cry on the last day of class. Her course is what "the college experience" is all about.

Awesome teacher. Wonderful person. Most popular instructor in the entire History Department. Gives away lots of test answers ahead of time. Gives extra assignments for extra points; showed films where we would write short ID essays at the end, for more extra points. We wish only the best for Dr. Hegarty in her career. She is truly inspiring.
