I think she is the best English teacher at OCC. I took her 4 semester, I liked her that much! She helps you out so you can earn a good grade and she's a fun teacher that doesn't require much work! I loved her classes!!

She's always available for help. Her class is alright; there's lots of quizes (very easy - helps grade). Her essays can be a bit confusing at times (you have to come up with your own thesis and write on that).

You know, i thought i was doing bad in her class. She is a good teacher and she does help you out alot. Her essays come one right after the other. Just be prepared for it.She offers x-tra credit so my advice is to take it and you'll get an A for sure.

Instructor Kennedy is a great english teacher who provides you with all the necessary information you need for your papers. she grades your work on your ability, and not hers. highly recommend her.

Good teacher. Lots of easy extra credit and just one in class essay at the end of the semester. Not hard but be prepared to do a lot of research for papers. Many quizes but they only help the grade.

She is kicked back and lets us be us. Her class is straightforeward and she requires little reading as compared to other professors. We also get to watch movies for the class. How wonderful is that?

Very good class. wrote essays about moulin rouge and platoon. she is very helpful and nice. 1 in class essay. that is graded very easy. take home essays are graded a bit harder. but overall pretty simple class.

She is a good teacher, but grades papers very hard! You have to analyze everything in depth. She helps you get on track. You have quizes on readings every class, but if you read it's an easy extra points. Shes nice!!!! She cares about your feelings.

Includes in-class essays and take home essays. Her grading system is fair. Directions are sometimes confusing, but she is quick to clarify it. Very understanding and helpful. One group project. Take this class if you prefer discussions rather than writing in class.

Ms. Kennedy is the best English 101 teacher ever. She made it so interesting that I had almost forgotten that I was in an Engish class. I found the class to be enjoyable despite the fact that I do not read literature much. Passed with flying colors, but you must have a strong writing capability. Highly recommended...

She's very sweet and fair. You have a quiz in every class for the assigned readings, but the quizzes are pretty easy. Extra redits are also available. Bottom line, it's not too hard to get an A.

Marilyn was a riot! She was a wonderful teacher. If you had questions you could always email her. We had a great class and everyone participated. It made the class very interesting. Her assignments are not very hard, but she does expect you to have correct grammar, etc.She loves to talk about her new puppy. Take her if you want to learn.I got an A.

Prof. Kennedy is an easy teacher. She gives you only 3 essays the whole semester and the rest of your grade is from reading quizzes and a group project. I would take her class again.

she is THE teacher to take to get rid of the english requirement. Class consists of daily reading quizzes (you have to read like 10-20 pages every night), 4 essays, and one in-class essay. She reads your rough drafts and tells you what to fix. Its an easy B, a worthwhile A.

The reason a lot of people think this class is easy is because she's a really good teacher. She tructures her classes so well that it just makes it easier to get the assignments done. Trust me on this one I HATE english classes but I'm glad I took this class with her.

she's hilarious. insightful, but need to pull it out from her. won't disagree with you, but will really subtly tell you you are wrong. highly recommended. easy class with good short readings (plays, essays, etc.)

Shes a really good teacher, she teaches with a style and passion and makes the class not boring and involves all the kids, sometimes hard to contact with her email but she will help you, her policies are cool, like being able to redo essay for an 80 percent and the quizes are freaking easy,take her for sure, she is really good and good attitude.

Kennedy is a very smart teacher and very well informed on her topic. Papers werent too hard, but there is regular reading for quizzes. Worthwhile A, and an interesting class.

Prof. Kennedy is kind, sweet, and open-minded instructor at OCC. There is a lot of in-class discussion, some boring film viewings, but a lot of activity. Her focus is on film criticism, which I dismissed at first. I came away sad to see the semester end. I truly enjoyed English 148, and appreciate the kindness Prof. Kennedy showed the class.

She's great. Really enjoys teaching, and likes group discussion and participation. She knows what she's talking about, and is really helpful. Fun class to take and a fun teacher.

She was alright i was a little upset that i always got B's, 102 is going to be harder then 100 no matter who you take!

I was in her film lit class, and I found it both easy and interesting. There was a lot student interaction and input into discussions. My favorite class of that semester, by far.

She was an easy teacher, but hard grader. TOOOO Much work in the class. She likes to explain things over and over again. I had a B in her class but worked my butt off. Her class can get boring sometimes...I will never take this class again. If you want to take it then take it with friends, its much more fun then taking it alone.

The class is interesting. She really likes to teach and is more concerned about what you learn from the works we study. You can say whatever you want as long as you back it up. Quizzes almost every class so study, the pts add up. I think there were three 6 page papers and one group project. easy if you do the work.

PRofesssor Kennedy is AWESOME!We watched 5 movies in this class and had a choice to write about any of them for an essay. There's pretty much a quiz everyday so make sure you read. Work is durable getting an A in the class. Shes lively and not a boring teacher. She listens to your opinions. Take her. good class! and I had her in the afternoons.

Ms. Kennedy is uhh-mazing. I enjoyed her class very much. She started each class with topics to talk about and she would always get everyone speaking. I usually dont speak a lot in class but this one got me going. She's very helpful when it comes to writing. I appreciate all the help i got from her.

Professor Kennedy is a great, she is always helpful and her classes are interesting. Little quizzes about the readings often so do the reading.

She is so dedicated to her job and always available to take care of your problems. I have both Eng-101 and Eng-148 with her and both of them are fun and helpful. She has a very good knowledge about movies as well. just make sure you study before coming to class to do well on her 10-question quizzes.

Watched a lot of movies in class. A few papers which I thought were graded pretty harshly, but I got a B overall. It was an enjoyable class. I recommend her!

Awesome, original teacher with a good knowledge of film and an uncondescending attitude towards students. Her choices of films to show in class were extremely unorthodox and interesting. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to study film.

Awesome teacher! She helps more than any other english teacher I've had. She is a tough grader on essays, but it's not impossible to get an A on essays or overall class. You just have to be very very critical of your own writing & edit a lot before turning in. I got an A on all essays and was 1 of only 3 to get an A in the class, & I worked hard.

I really enjoyed her class. She is very nice and helpful, and you actually study and write about interesting material. Show up to class and do the readings for the daily quizzes. If youre not lazy and unintelligent you should recieve an A!

This isnt the easiest class but professor kennedy is one of the best professors I've ever had. Her classes are interesting and she really cares about her students & wants them to do well. Don't expect any handouts, but she put in extra time out of class to help me go from a D to a B.. Stay on top of the online assignments & dont procrastinate

Wkly readings & 10pt quizes to make sure you read, sometimes written responses too. Allows xtra cred to makeup quiz grades. 3 essays & 1 inclass/midterm essay. Wkly 10pt homework. Grading is difficult like gives 7.8pts. Semester gets harder @end but she is very helpful. Start off strong & keep up w/work for easy B. Work harder for A & ask for help

I took Eng101 and I passed it with a B. Although it's required to buy the textbook with the pear, I managed the semester without it. It's a really interesting class and it's not like the typical boring English class. She really knows how to keep an interesting convo and plus, we watch films in class! Overall, I enjoyed the class.

I took here class for controversial topics and it was great, she constantly engaged with the class in discussion and was very helpful on the writing assignments. I strongly recommend her.

Very helpful. Films this semester were BORING, though. It's not even that I didn't understand the films, some were just not good. Good class if you want to write about meanings(even if they dont exist, she goes over what she wants to hear) Will kind of annoy you if you are a film major. Definitely interesting. Must try for A on essays though. EasyB

Overall, I enjoyed this class. I had gotten an A in English 100H and an A in English 102 However, I ended up finishing the class with a B and that is the trend. Even the English majors I talked to were getting around 88-90% Not the easiest class, but definitely one of the more interesting classes at OCC.

I know other students really struggled with the essays, but it should be known before taking an english class that you'll have to write. The essay topics were not difficult by any means (they regarded the films we watched). Some of the films were God-awful, but there were a few that I'd definitely watch again. She was so insightful+willing to help.

Prof Kennedy is one of the best profs I've had at OCC. She actively listens to the students opinions, encourages participation, is very thoughtful, but most importantly, she treats each student with such consideration and respect. The films were unique & interesting; well, two were pretty bad lol but 1416 were good-great, all thought-provoking.

Kennedy is very knowledgeable about her class. I took her hybrid class. We did 5 long essays, some reading quizzes, and weekly assignment. She is good teacher and there for you but you gotta work hard or you'll be behind.

This is an english class so there are a lot of essays. For the midterm and final she wants you to analyze one essay that you read for there use of a writing form. Her Summer Class was a Hybrid, so it was a bit difficult and fast pace; but you will learn a lot from her. She is great, although she is a tough grader so you must put effort into the stuff you do for her. She made you earn your grrade

Professor Kennedy is a responsible, knowledgeable and passionate teacher. She always gives very detailed feedback on essays so that you can learn a lot from every essay. It's fun how she links the current events to the topic. She also shares some fun stories of hers related to the topics. She's very helpful in office hours too. Highly receommended

if u like someone holding ur hand through college shes the one to pick. really wants students to succeed lots of extra credit and makeups. hybrid class has a lot of work. shes a film person so expect to write about film. reads all of ur work and comments a lot. has nice mom vibe& helps bad students get better grades. great class if ur a bad student

If there was ever a professor I'd leave a review for, it's Marilyn. I adore her and I adored her class. She's an amazing educator who you can tell deeply cares for her students and the subject. For this reason I really excelled in her class, but it was not easy. Her class changed my life, and I look forward to taking another course with her!

Hybrid class was hard with a lot of work & reading. Tough grader but helps you when she can. Good professor and vert sweet! Has 4 essays, two in class, two outside of class. Also gives reading quizzes almost every class. Pay attention to the syllabus, she does not give you reminders about the quizzes or homework assignments.

kind and funny professor who seems to really care for her students. always engages in class discussions. I personally loved most of the movie choices. quiz every week, but they're short and easy. grading criteria is very clear. you will definitely need to try when writing the essays, but if you put in the effort, the class is easy and fun!

Hip, engaging, caring and fair. Excpects you to stretch to reach attainable goals because she believes in her students and herself. She does spoon feed the essay process, which makes this hard course a breeze. Her own Free online book--I still use/reference. I believe in her and encourage you to take her course. Daily quizzes on readings, 3 essays.

She is so caring and kind to her students. She is an amazing professor. I took honors and it was basically another project on top of what the rest of the class did. Shes usually really clear on what she wants and gives good feedback. She doesnt make you read a lot, mostly watch movies (that are actually interesting). If you can, TAKE HER!!!!

Professor Kennedy is super caring. She is very smart and encourages different viewpoints and participation in discussions in class. I definitely learned a lot. She's a great teacher and responds to emails late at night. Get into the workflow of the hybrid course syllabus and speak up in class. Unintentionally I grew a lot while taking her course

Took her honors course and was a great experience. You can tell she enjoys meeting with her honors group very much. Tough grader, but overall fair. Would recommend her if you want a meaningful challenge. Your grade mostly depends on 4 essays plus an extra one if you're in the honors group.

good amount of reading/film watching, student discussion is important, sometimes lectures for entire class which causes students to lose focus, risqué subjects like beauty standards/drug abuse/misogyny, canvas layout is VERY confusing as a student and contributes to lower grades because of it so I hope she fixes that

Great teacher. Four essays within the class. Covers all topics between films, literature, and current events. She always answers emails thoroughly, and genuinely wants her students to succeed.

Intensive class with lots of writing. Be prepared to spend a lot of time perfecting essays. Grading can be tough, but the Professor is always willing to help a student with their essays if they take the time to set up an appointment with the Professor outside of class. Canvas page is messy and it can be easy to accidentally miss an assignment.

Class mainly consisted of article readings (on interesting topics), very short+simple timed tests, discussion posts, and essay writing. Not the best lecturer (goes on frequent tangents, not concise), but everything you need is on the Canvas. Canvas not formatted efficiently (easy to miss assignments), however it's manageable. Pretty flexible+nice!

Mrs. Kennedy's class overall was not specifically too difficult, however, it is a class that needs some time dedicated to it each week. There is a quiz on readings before class once a week. 4 essays which do weigh on the final grade a lot. Attend her office hours, ask questions, and use feedback. I ended with an when I focused on the last 2 essays.
