Everyone wants to take her. Easy. Funny. Smiling all the times. Her grading is flexible and easy. I would definitely recommend anyone that is taking 1A to take her class. You'll definitely come out with an A in her class. Mrs.Patton, You are the Best!!!

She is excellent. No wonder she has a somewhat high position in English Department. But getting A's in her class in not that easy. Obviously you have to work hard. People who try will get A's. People who are lazy won't make it. She is strict in cheating.

Not hard, but not easy. I can rate that the whole class is medium. Some essays, quizzes are easy but some are hard. The final is medium too. But, she is a nice teacher which will answer my question if I have it. I would still recommend to take her.

Mrs. Patton, she is one of the greattest teacher at deanza. she's very helpful and is clear on the assignments that she gives out. Gives enough time and prepares you for future courses. Never regret taking her class. best of te best and very energetic.

I really like Marilyn Patton. She gives the 60s a good name. Quirky, smart, honest and a good person. Her class was fun, not too challenging and really what good JC should be about: getting you excited about learning, and getting up in life to go to the next level.

she's smart, creative, awesome. do all her assign readings they aren't hard (d0n't be lazy!!!=> key sentence). she lets her students to write whatever they want, which mean u can write about sex, kinky stuff, nothing matters. she favors creativity and love it! she's the coolest stanford teacher that i have ever known.

I went to De Anza as an International student from Japan in 2000-2002. I took Marilyn's classes and she was great! She understood my english ability and very helpful. She is very smart, funny, active, creative and helpful. I totally recomend you to take her classes. Whenever I remember of De Anza, I always think of her as a great person & teacher:)

Professor Patton is one of two really wonderful teather at De Anza. She is fair, respecful of her students, and she does not go out of her way to wake life difficult for her students. you have to do the work but the tests and quizzes are fairly easy.

She is great. I think if you are really at a level of EWRT100, then don't worry. It is easy. As comment below, she is the best I have never had in DA. There are only 5 essay and one reflective essay. That's all. If you think that is hard, then better go back to high school. I think she is wonderful and I am sure everyone in her class agree with me.

Ms. Patton is GREAT! she's weird, helpful, and clear. just follow the assignment sheet and try your best; you'll pass and learn a lot! writing essays isn't hard with her cause she makes sure you'll have your ideas for each of the essays before the dead line. the best part of this class is that she really prepares you for ewrt 1A : ) YES!

Marilyn is wonderful! Her class has a leisurely pace but covers plenty of material. Maybe 30 minutes of reading a night, tests are absolutely easy; if you know the characters of the tales you've got yourself an A. She is a very easy grader and loves everyone and laughs a ton. This is the second time having her as my professor. Very lenient and easygoing teacher. I mean seriously, all i do is lie around, study for my other classes and sleep. She allows people to do rewrites and turn in assignments in late; ha, just be cool with her. Come to class on time and be prepared. Don't be an ass, that's all. Easy A.

Wonderful teacher! One of the best teachers in De Anza for sure. Very helpful and understanding. She will help you outside the class time, and she is a great counselor, too. Might be little bit hard for students with ESL background, but if you really want to learn to write well, take her.

she is sooo helpful. there are like 6 or 7 papers, but it doesn't feel like a lot of work because we get so much class time and she helps so much with your essays. not a lot of reading. we didn't read any books, just articles. also, don't be late to class!

An amazing teacher! I thought EWRT 2 would be horrible writting so many papers but she makes it easy. We wrote about topics we were interested in. We were also able to email our papers to her before they were do and she would help us improve them. Take her class, never a dull moment!

She is the most helpful teacher around. She even gave our class something to snack, since it was a night time class. She is very informative, and even caught the attention of many students in the night class. She loves her subject very much. Highly recommended. She also will help you if you want to major in English.

this class was a good amount of work but Mrs. Patton was really helpful when it came to clarification and what not. she really gives you good information but focuses a lot on works cited. i really learned a lot from this class. RECOMMENDED! take her!

Patton is an outstanding educator; she consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that her students are the best taken care of students at De Anza. All of the work you turn in gets obvious attention from her, but not at the cost of your grade. The work load's light, the grading is kind; put in some effort and you'll get an A.

I took two or three course with Prof. Patton in the mid-90s, and since then I have had many, many other professors, so I have much to compare her to. She stands out as one of the very best teachers I have every had. She is masterful, ever so memorable, and her spirit is so inspiring. I really love her!

She's grades fairly, and tries to inspire her students; rather than simply telling us to read this, read that, write this, write that. I'd recommend her to anyone!

She's a pretty good teacher. Personally she gave me a lot of trouble with grades. She was very tough on grading. Prepare to receive very positive and encouraging feedback (especially on papers), but grades that go completely against/contrast the feedback.

This was the first English class that I actually enjoyed attending. Patton definitely gave me more confidence in my writing skills. She's not that hard of a grader in my opinion, however, English is my first language. Grade depends on 10 quizzes, a couple essays, a blog, and class participation. One of the best teachers I've ever had.

One of the best classes I've taken. She has a true gift when it comes to connecting to her students. She truly cares and always has constructive criticism and feedback to improve your writing skills. A big part of this class also involves participation and working with others. I'm quiet but since the class was so fun it was easy to get involved.

Best teacher at De Anza. Incredibly nice. (Ex. Theres a field trip, if you can't go she'll give you a ride.) Incredibly understandinghelpful. Participation is important. I'm a quiet person so I did not like that. You don't use the english book but Persepolis you do. She's chill. Quizes, often. 4 essays. Theres a play you have to be in, heads up.

Ms. Patton is all over the place. But if you read the books, participate, and do the extra credit assignments (She gives too many not to do) Easy A.

She's one of those people you just know is a genius. She's hysterical and gives great, interactive lectures. There is a daily quiz but it's always group work. When you do the reading, you can participate more, but you're ok if you forget occasionally. Sparknotes is ok for Shakespeare but the midterm is identifying quotes. Overall, LOVE her!

I took her for Shakespeare and she is AMAZING! Her teaching style and the way she presents things leads you to rethink about what exactly the author was trying to portray. She truly is a gem because even though she veers off topics with personal anecdotes, she always finds a way to tie it back to the original conversation. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!!!!

Took her for my english 1A, it was pretty interesting class. A lot of engagiment and interactions with the prof and classmates that made me be comfortable being in this class. She helped me to be a better writer!!!!! Do your work and Dont procrastinate so that you get A!

Ms Patton is absolutely brilliant! She is so passionate about Shakespeare that it actually got to me too. She makes you wear costumes and enact scenes from the play.. her quizzes are usually group quizzes. She is so sweet, if you go to her she is willing to help you in every possible way. Gives tons of extra credit too, I highly recommend her.

I took Marilyn Patton in the winter of 2016. It was an introduction to Shakespeare class and we read tons of Shakespeare books. She took us to the Berkeley Rep Theatre to see Macbeth live by Daniel Sullivan and one of the actors from Game of Thrones. It was one of the most defining moments of my life. I started playwrighting.
