She is super cool and knows her stuff. She isn't your typical teacher. She provides examples that are relevant. Makes a boring class really fun. Just don't be late to her class cuz she will call you out (or lock the door). I wish she taught more classes.
I came in, in love with chemistry and having goals to major in it. Then the first day of class hit and I wanted to drop! She constantly cursed throughout the semester which some people didn't like. As the semester moved on the class size went from 60 students to 15 it felt like. Overall I'm not majoring in chemistry.
I like her as a teacher however I HATE HATE HATE the fact that we are graded for recitation. Recitation is said to help us but all it does is drag our grade down. I also hate the random group assignments for recitation, half of the class doesn't know how to do anything and I am always stuck trying to carry the team. There isnt enough time for that
Make sure you read your book, study, and stay focused
GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE CLASS: Video's are helpful, she returns grades quickly, she tries to help by giving extra credit. BAD THINGS ABOUT THE CLASS: She gets easily frustrated/annoyed when you ask questions in class, sometimes the extra credit is limited to only a few students, she goes too fast when doing problems in class.
Negative: The class is really big at the beginning of semester. The test are difficult and are heavily weighted. During recitation there are to many questions for an hour.
Personally , I think Dr. T is a great instructor . Some may say that she's a difficult person because she is so blunt and candid , but I think that's a wonderful thing because that's how we are as with our other peers. She is also great with one on one sessions with students. The class can be hard , but that's just chemistry in general.
This professor curses during class and seems annoyed when people ask questions. I wouldn't recommend taking her ever. If there is another Chemistry class available, take that one.
Dr.T is not a good teacher especailly in the spring becasue the semester is short, however if you have to take any other chemisry, I do recommend taking her for understanding, other than than I DO NOT recommend her. She expects too much to be common knowlege and its not if you're not a chemistry major.
On the last exam of the semester, she decided to go out of the country and leave it to selected students to teach the class. She didn't return until the day of the test.
Dr. T is a great teacher ! however her class isn't anything to play with it . You will really have to put in over time to see the results your use to in this class. The class is a challenge but Dr. T is willing to give all the help. In this class you need to really understand the importance of consistent practice and studying .
She will make you work for what ever you get. This class demands a lot of your time if you want an A.
Dr. T always extended a helping hand no matter what. I wish she taught more upper level classes, so that I could just keep on learning at the level she teaches at.
She a nice person but she makes her classtestquizzes harder then it should be be. She told our class that there are 96 people registered to her and only 6 people are passing with a "C" or higher. The class is also fast paced.

Shes a horrible teacher. Theres no way around her class. Someone need to get her fired.
I would say don't take this class but she is the only one teaching it. She thrives off of failing students and turning them away from learning and finishing their degrees. Her teaching style is to try and make students feel stupid, then tell them "Maybe you should just change your major." with a smile. "Tuskegee who is really representing you?"
Don't plan on focusing on any other course if you're and chemical engineering major. (PS she does really like ChemE's, shes got something against them from the first day of class). She loves to give a lot of work and she can't grade at the same rate that she assign's work. So you are not able to assess you academic standing in a timely manner.
Dr. T is tough, but she is tough bc she wants you to LEARN. Mostly, she emphasizes learning, not memorizing (which is what most of us have done so far). Most comments I read are simply untrue about her. She wants you to UNDERSTAND the concepts (I mean she gives you all formulas for the test!) and her grading is exceptionally fast compared to others
Yea really, most comments here must have been placed by people who wanted to pass a class that required no work! She actually teaches and expects you to do work to get a good grade - imagine that?! Her tests are a bit tough but they are suppose to be challenging it's chemistry not underwater basket weaving. I personally think she is the best TU has!
Dr. T's class basically changed my life! I was missing the "WHY" factor in my classes. Dr. T huge on us knowing the concept behind things in class and wanting us to go deeper in understanding. She's tough because she's one of the few instructors that actually cares and wants to see her students do great. The office hours saved me! Work Greatness
I previously had to drop her class but had to have the class for my major. I took my time to study and ask her questions and she helped me a lot! She is tough and expects a lot from her students, but it's because she wants them to understand chemistry, not just pass it. Now I really like chemistry and have Dr. T to thank for that!
Dr. Tourne is a wonderful teacher. Coming into her class I wasn't very advance on chemistry but after just 8 weeks I learned so much about chemistry and is prepared for Chem 2.! Awesome teacher!
I'm currently taking her class and I love love love the setup of the class! The group activities are priceless to really understanding the concepts. I think DrT is awesome at really breaking things down for you. She loves participation and encourages you to actually know WHY you're doing what you're doing. I wish there were more teachers like her!
If, you do not study, then you will not pass.
Look into your book and work problems.
She is a good teacher but her class is hard. I wish she taught more instead of giving all these group assignments.
She is very helpful. The worksheets aren't very helpful because if you have a question about it you have to wait for her to finish with someone else before she gets to you. Other than that I'm actually understanding chemistry. Just wish tecail wasn't about of our grade. She is much easier now than she was before.
She is easy you just have to study
I love her enthusiasticness towards class but sometimes u feel as if she goes to fast
She is a great teacher who actually cares if you succeed or not. She gives plenty of extra credit or bonus points. Even the homework is bonus points. If you ask a question she is ready to help you. She holds plenty of study sessions. She acknowledges the fact that Chemistry is hard but she does her best to help. If you ask for help, you will get it
A good teacher but a smart mouth, sometimes I miss the big picture because her sarcasm is in the way. Don't like doing the work sheets everyday but they do help some times.
I really dislike the group work if she went over the questions every now and then with the whole class to have full clarification it would be much better than going off just what your group guesses is right.
Tests are very hard. Concept based. Seek help asap
Dr. Tourne is an amazing instructor! She helps us students whenever she can and assures that you know the material. The class isn't too hard; however, you have to work hard for a good grade. If you're up for a professor that will challenge you and help you learn how to think then Dr. T is the perfect match for you.
She is an amazing person but does not teach AT ALL! She "teaches" (more like talks for 5 minutes) expects you to understand then places you in groups with other people who have no idea what she is talking about. If she taught more it might be a whole lot better of a class and we'd actually learn and enjoy learning it.
Dr. T has flaws like all teachers but she is the best chemisrty teacher i have ever had. From general chem in 10th grade to AP chem in 12th she has had the most positive impact.
Dr. Tourne is a good instructor. Although she has a reputation for being a tough teacher, and a stickler among other things she is there for her class, she answers questions she can in class and is always available via email, and she also offers study sessions and tutorials. One thing I don't like though is the number of tcaeil study sessions
Dr. Tourne class is tough you have to know what you're doing to pass the test.
She's tough, but she cares.
I love the group activities, but I wish the activities wasn't so simple because there not going to be that simple on the test. The practice can be simple to get and understand it, but the review should be a bit more advance to apply it to real life test and quiz questions.
Dr. Tourne is really a great teacher she puts us in our groups to allow us to get help from our peers. Also she gives lectures that are not boring and long.
I enjoy the class. Sometimes I wish that we could lecture a little longer. I do enjoy a balance between lectures and group work.
I wish she would lecture more, and not as much group work. I feel like she isn't teaching as much and expects us to figure it out.. We never check the answers, so we could be doing it wrong the whole time. I do like the videos though, and she gives a lot of bonus, but not as much lately.
I was skeptical of taking Dr. T at first because of her reputation, but DONT BELIEVE IT. Shes a great teacher! Im actually beginning to love chemistry. I'm actually considering minoring in Chemistry with my major of Biology. However, I do wish she would lecture a little more. Students grasp concepts better when they are discussed in class.
Because Chemistry is very complicated in general there is no way of finessing. You have to understand the concepts to pass this class. Tourne' does a really good job breaking down each concept either in her videos or in class. She is the type of teacher who will not rest until you understand as long as you ask questions and want to pass.
Dr. Tourne is very clear and you're able to understand but it can get really fast so you have to do a lot of reading. The group activities allow you to understand the concepts and get feedback from her so you know what she's looking for.
This class is tough but you can still pass. I think there's too much group work which makes it harder for me to learn. I like more lecture.
She's nice and is really cool people. She is also very open to new ideas
I think Dr. Tourne is an excellent professor. She is tough, but you will definitely learn. It is not impossible to get an A out of her class. Stay positive and you will succeed.
Dr. Tourne's teaching approach introduces an upperclassmen dynamic to an introductory course. I believe this is very good especially for freshmen because it promotes independent learning which is the ultimate goal for undergraduate students. I would encourage everyone to keep up the hard work and use her class as a guide to learn in all aspects.
If you enjoy getting yelled at because you don't understand something then take her class. She will tell you she does this because she cares, but I don't learn by being yelled at. You ask her a question and she makes you feel stupid for not getting it the first time. But she is a great teacher. Her methods of teaching just aren't the best.
She's a tough teacher, but that's because she genuinely cares about her job and her students. The class is definitely worth taking if you're a science major. Trust me when I say you'll learn if you put forth the effort. The only thing I don't like is the group work, I prefer the lecture. But overall she's a pretty great teacher.
If you teach like the way yoy did on 10/12 everyday then assign the worksheet as hw , make it due over blackboard or in class , then go over the hw in groups the next day will makes this class not easier but better for the students to stay on task a more prepared on the test .
This class is very hard! Dr. T is willing to help if you come to her. This class makes you be proactive in your own learning. IF YOU DO NOT READ AND DO NOT DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS ON YOUR OWN you will have a difficult time. Class time is generally used for group work, which helps if you actually do the work with people smarter than you
I dropped this class like a bad habit. What to expect: Must read; first few chapters are on youtube,so you have to teach yourself; tutoring is mandatory; Tourne is straightforward, snappy, but sweet; test are tricky;need I-clicker;will have pop quizzes for bonus points;tons of group work.
Before I came to the school, I was warned not to take her as a teacher. I didnt listen which messed up my whole first semester of college. You literally have to give her class your whole entire life to pass. Her class is at the top of your schedule. You literally have to fail every other class to pass her class with a C at the most. DONT TAKE HER
I took her my freshman year and she was a difficult class. Although, if you put the work in, you will pass her class. If you dont know how to study, you better learn when you get to her class. If you do need help, she is more than happy to help break everything down for you. She just wants you to learn and not memorize.
bruh don't do it, if you see her name run drop it asap
Her class is definable doable. You cant bs at all in her class. You have no choice but to work hard. People love to get to Tuskegee and play around. Tourne will definitely teach you some discipline. You dont even have to go to class if you really study your textbook. Classwork is just extra credit points.
She is very rude. Rude. From the first day its endless attitudes and snarky comments. During the pandemic (2020) and after a bad start to the semester (no class bc lab wasnt ready, gave us a practice test that ended up being our midterm grade) she showed no leniency or understanding. Grade book only had 7 grades at the end. I chose a P (P/F)
I took Dr. Tourne's general chemistry class the second semester of my freshman year and I do not regret it. Her class is not easy nor is it a class for those who are not willing to dedicate time outside of class to learning chemistry. She makes you work hard for your grade but she also prepares you for the next section of general chemistry.
She is hard no doubt ... but she cares and you really learn.
Dr. Tourne's class is a lot of work and you definitely do need to take time out of your schedule to study for it (i.e. READ THE TEXTBOOK). But, with that being said Dr. T is an awesome professor, and she makes sure you stay on track with the content and will always help you with any questions you may have (even the dumb-dumb ones).
Tourne is a really sweet teacher and cares about her student doing well, she shows it through tough love however, which explains maybe why some of the comments called her rude, she is not rude but rather a no nonsense, and expects you to keep up with the content and if you are struggling that you ask for help early on. She is always willing to help
Dr. Tourne'... Definitely the hardest professors out there. You CAN NOT be sensitive while taking this course. Hard to approach but is there for you at the same time.. kinda weird. Offers a ton of extra credit to help boost your grade. PLEASE study, study while taking this course. I would recommend taking her with easier courses so you can focus!
Dr. Tourne is a great person and a very tough professor. I took her for general chemistry as a freshman and it was more of an intro to college than an intro to chemistry. Between weekly group assignments, long hours of studying, tests, and quizzes, Dr. Tourne truly prepares her students for the hardest parts of college.
Dr. Tourne's passion for her subject is clear from the first day of class. She is quite clear about what she expects from her students; she tells you that her class requires a lot of work. Also, you do not have to wonder how you are doing in her class because she grades most things within a week.
tourne is a tough professor but in the end you will learn chemistry
Dr. Tourne is a good teacher. She wants you to be able to know what your doing when it comes to chemistry and she doesn't let you take the easy route. You have to work for the grade that you want and as long as you have good study habits will pass her class.
I definitely prefer her teaching style over most teachers, but I really enjoyed the POGLS it gave the students an opportunity to learn from each other and talk and get to know one another. I honestly believe that if we did more POGLS that there wouldn't have been a mass number of students dropping the class. Would have liked POGLS to be a semester.
You have to study for this class. DO NOT TAKE TOURNE EXPECTING AN EASY A!
Dr. Tourne is a tough cookie, but she will help you where its needed! She wont just give a grade you didnt work for, so be prepared to study hard and do lots of practice outside of class as well. Please do all assignments and any extra credit opportunities!
Dr. T is a difficult teacher she makes you work for your grade. Even though the class is hard she is willingly to help you dont be afraid to ask for help. Ill be honest if you just need this class for a credit I would recommend not taking her but if you are a chem major I highly recommend. make sure you do alot of practice problems cause that test
Dr. Tourne is a very hard teacher that will make you work for your grade but you will definitely have a better understanding of chem than other students with other teachers. You MUST do your own outside studying! The only thing that I don't like about her is her tendency to be short-tempered with students when they don't 'get' concepts in class.
Dr Tourne is an amazing professor, she always make sure you understand before moving along when she's lecturing. Some might say she's extremely tough but she just wants all her students to succeed on their own and discipline themselves. For example she will not remind you when assignments or do she expects you to know and turn them in on time
Dr. Tourne will, at first, come off as rather unsympathetic and overly blunt. However, if you are actually committed to learning the coursework and are able to see past the initial callousness that she exhibits, she is actually extremely friendly and approachable. She goes very out of her way to ensure that her students are doing their best.
This is a solid professor, unfortunately, I was robbed of the in-class experience and online classes are not effective for me, but the professor did the best she could during these uncommon times. Help was not hard to obtain, you just have to ask.
Dr. Tourne is a pretty tough professor. I am not the best at chemistry and I would recommend her to someone who is a chemistry major or has a liking to this subject. I think she should only teach Chem majors, based on the fact that she teaches like you should already know most of these things so its a very fast paced class, not for slower learners.
Not a bad teacher she does meet you to work and study so I would recommend this teacher to another student. Her exams are little heart on the harder side but the first and second exam isn't as hard as the third and fourth exam.
Youll have to read and watch the videos to get an understanding of each topic, but you can do it.
Dr. Tourne is a WONDERFUL teacher yet VERY challenging. To do well in her class you must take advantage of ALL the extra credit and practice! All of her test problems are very concept based and handwritten (weighted heavily). She is extremely fair and not basis. She will basically TELL YOU how to get an A in her class. You must do your best!
The curriculum is based off of tests and quizzes. She is a good teacher but way too challenging for entry-level chemistry. You can tell she's been teaching for a long time but she tends to forget that many of her students have little to no chem background. Her tests are extremely hard. Wouldn't recommend taking virtually.
