she cannot even speak English
Totally unreasonable, last I checked we didn't live in communist Russia.
hard to understand
cannt understand what she says
No Comments
Poor English, extremely unclear, occasionally even contradicting herself.
I don't know what she is talking during the class.EXTREMELLY BAD PRONOUNCIATION
Many conceptual mistake about computer, poor English, poor, everything is poor
She was ok, but her Exams are real hard
No Comments
Very poor english communication skills. Very tough to pass her test.
Simple assignment, complicated & long mid-term exam. Her words are not easy to hear. Yet, she's very helpful if you ask her questions after class. She's nice and talkative. The TA Alexi is extreme terrible!!! Tough marker!
one of the nicest professors in the university, very helpful. very technical. very smart. difficult to understand if you dont have a technical background. the book provided does not support what is required. need to listen carefully in class to understand
good prof. very helpful and considerate to her students
not that good
THE WORST TEACHER IN THE WORLD!!!!!!DOESN'T EVEN KNOW ENGLISH....ITS HARD TO DESCRIBE HER CLASSES.....
very unhelpful........the worst prof!!!
10/10
Very helpful. Has good knowledge of the subject
Do not even bother trying to learn from her slides, they are useless. You never know what she is asking for and she gets really impatient when she helps you.

heavy accent; very knowledgeable in her own world; hard exams; personal unfair attitude towards diff students
she taught me Itec3220 and 4220 as well. nice professor. I got A in 3220 and A+ in 4220. if you want to learn database, you should take those courses from her.
She is like "Mi no englash, new in canada". Knows nothing about the course she is teaching. She should go teach some 2nd grade. No please don't take her course.
Meh... it could have been worse
The nicest Professor at York. She will go overboard with helping students. But you have to ask for help first. She should be the chair of the department. A lot of students will come back to do honours / masters. Considering ITec doesnt teach enough to get an IT position she atleast is somewhat .....
Heavy Accent for some.. BUT i must say her courses are VERY helpful.. and so is she IF you show your interest in the course.. plus, her courses are among the only in the I.T. program where you ACTUALLY learn stuff to put on your resume.. challenging course and exams BUT you learn a lot out of them..
She is an awful prof! I worked as a DBA for several years prior taking her course. Her notes are nonsensical. She lectures full with errors. She teaches stuff noone uses in the real world. Stay away if possible:(

very helpful professor
We covered much materials compared to another section. York's ITEC does not teach you much, this is the course you can learn something from! If you can show her (or anyone, i guess) you're a hard-working, she (and everybody) will always help!
Simply put, she knows her stuff, and is one of the best professors, very helpful and you actually learn employable skills from her assignments and they are relevant to the textbook. I would recommend her to anybody, though she has a bit of communication problems in terms of speaking and understandi
She is can be understanding as long as you don't cross her. If you have emailed her for anything to do with your assignments make sure it is crystal clear because she gets confused easily. Everyone passed in my section.
She's not bad, I think she's one of the best itec profs at the school. Only con I can think of is maybe her accent and she doesn't speak as loud. She's very helpful and all you gotta do is ask. If you study, shouldn't be a problem getting a high mark in her class.
She tries really hard but her english stands to improce
Her accent is maybe a bit confusing some of the times but she seems to try to give good lectures. The material is a bit dry though so there's not really a lot you can do. I did approach her after class for help with some of the assignments and she was very helpful and really did try clairfy things and seemed concerned and helpful
Great

She tries very hard for you to understand the work but, assumes that you have a background in the course already. The T.A. has no logical method of marking. You will lose marks for stupid things. Lecture notes she gives are important for tests and exams. Not worth going to exam review, she just rereads the powerpoint presentation.
she sounds like she just got off the boat yesterday. Stay away
Her lectures are very boring and not interesting at all. Even if you try your hardest to pay attention you wont get past her thick accent. Her assignments are decent if you learn how to do them. If you have previous HTML knowledge this class is a breeze. If your a cpu guy easy sailing. If your not, this class is not worth the 3 creds.
I find that it is a painful process for her to let words out of her mouth not because she lack the language but she is not passionate about teaching. She there 4 the money. She should not be in the teaching profession cuz a teacher should inspired and morally and ethically fulfil their duties so the opposite of that is selfish person. Stay Away!
I had her for 3220 & 4220. She is an excellent professor. She is tough, but fair. She knows her stuff, so she knows what she is talking about. Very helpful during office hours and even asks her students to ask questions while working on assignments. She has an accent, but it doesnt affect her ability to articulate.
STAY AWAY! She gives you one book and uses another one in her slides!!!
Quite knowledgeable. Good structure to the lectures and helpful comments on project presentation. Overall a good experience.
She is challenging, must attend class, doing the optional homework helps. Take notes in class, you'll be fine.
Very helpful and approachable. Great final exam review!
The teacher is somewhat hard to understand but very helpful when it comes to assignment help... if you put a lot of effort you will be able to achieve high results on all the assignments and the midterm... the final exam was much more difficult than all the other assessments in the course
this class is interesting but sadly accents make me fall asleep...slept through her entire semester...every class sadly. Her cumulative idea is great I screwed up the midterm but final covers it and so hopefully i did well
I had both 3220M and 1010 with her, taking notes, doing assigned HW, attending class, are not only important but critical if you need an A. she is pretty helpful and willing to explain out of her office hours. she dun cheat students, exactly same questions from her exam review, best prof ever had
such a nice lady...and very helpful during office hours
Great Professor, had her for both 3220 and 4220. Her accent might be hard to understand and comprehend, but she is very nice. If you pay attention to her review session and do relatively good on the assignments you can get an easy A (got A's for both classes)
take this course with her, you wont regret...listen carefully to what she says in class...she is very helpful and a very nice lady.
boring class, easy exam
Great prof! She is clear in her instructions and teaching and she is very helpful taking the time to explain something to you if you have questions. The group project and final exams are both fair and I wish she taught more courses in ITEC!
Grab a coffee, go to class and be ready to learn -- do the assignments (on your own, it's a must) and study the slides, you will be ready for the exam. She's a great professor and her accent isn't all that bad if you pay attention. Coffee mandatory and so is attendance. :)
Bump me from c+ to b if you ask
her presentation has no logic at all. just random knowledges.
She is unorganized, ruded to students! Slow at marking the assignments, never reply emails! Honestly its extremely hard to pay attention to her in class cause of her heavy accent! But i guess her exams is okay easy, as long as you study her slides!
Really good ITEC professor
SHE IS ONE OF THE BEST PROFS IN ITEC DEPARTMENT. YOU LEARN A LOT FROM HER COURSES BUT YOU NEED TO STUDY ON YOUR OWN (ESPECIALLY ASSIGNMENTS, PROJECT MILESTONES). HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS WITH HER ACCENT. THE ATTENDANCE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AS THAT MATERIAL COMES ON THE FINAL EXAM.
Despite her accent, she really does care about her students and is willing to help her students during office hours and even in class. She tells you exactly what's going to be on the midterm and the final exam. It only took me two days to study before both exam and I got a B+. She may seem rude, but she's not, she's just serious and professional.
She's great. If you attend class, get on her good side and study abit you can easily achieve a B in her class. Really helpful with the assignments , I got an A in her class. Highly recommended!
Teaching and tests are medium. But I had an enrollment problem one day, and she did her best for me. No one helped me but she did and spoke to the program director on my behalf and got my permission for the problem I had. I owe her soooo much. Great great great personality. The best. Just talk to her and be reasonable if you had any problem.
I like this prof. I could say that she is one of the best in itec department. For me, her accent does not get into way on her teaching skills and she knows her stuff very well.
awesome prof :) one of the best in ITEC dept. just go to her classes, take good notes and study. I actually love her accent, LOL.
Although Marina is professional, her lectures are boring and does a poor job of explaining course concepts especially after the midterm. Most of the concepts I had to learn on my own, or thru online websites. Unfortunately, she is the only one who teaches this course and do not recommend this Prof.
Awesome prof. Always willing to help, professional and teaches very well. Her accent is easy to get used to.
Gets angry when students don't grasp concepts right away, even though she's taught the SAME course for well over 10 years. Very unprofessional. Lectures students to read readings and to use office hours, instead of actually covering content. YouTube and Google helped more than her sadly. Just use her older websites where she posts solutions.
She can be disrespectful at times. When my friend went to her office during the office hours, not only she did not answer his legitimate question, but she told him to go out! If you're an IT student, there is no way to avoid her class. So try to bear with: hard accent, rudeness, low temper, and random accusations.
Marina is a great professor she knows how to teach a course well and cares about what she teaches. I like that she can admit when she is wrong and pick back up where she left off. Sometimes her explanations can be a little hard to understand as she tends to ramble but go to her officer hours for help,it will help you!
She does not connect the information she spews out from the slides in any logical way during her lecture. It's impossible to listen to. I wish she would stand next to my bed while Im trying to fall asleep and give me a lecture.
Very helpful person, very nice professor who knows what she's teaching. If you focus on the assignments and talk to her every now and then, an A is pretty easy to achieve.
Her accent is HORRIBLEHer slides only have the question, no correct answer there at all! If you email her, she will refuse to give you the answer. So if you missed a class or get distracted in the class, she wouldn't help you at all. She thinks you deserve to fail. So get ready to the worst accent in the history, and pray you can memorizr everyword
She is by far the most competent professor at York. Attend class, do as she says, and you will get an excellent grade. Unlike other profs, she wants her students to do well! Just show her you're willing to put in the effort and learn.
She is the best and safest prof to take course. Explains clearly each and every concept. Helps students in office hours. If you want to do database then there is no alternative. Go to her class and do the home work, you will get A+. I guarantee it.
Highly intelligence prof. She really knows her stuff. Impressive...
She is one of those rare profs who truly teaches. To get a good grade: -write and understand all the answers to her inclass excersises, becuase for sure they will be in the midterm and the final. -if you go to her office hours she will help you.
The material for the class is very difficult and the professor herself is unable to transmit information to students effictively due to her poor teaching skills and dull presentation style. 80-85% of the grade is based on the midterm and final exams which are incredibly difficult and long, different to other sections grading scheme. AVOID if u can
Her slides are boring. She made an assignment due on reading week and made us hand it in person despite being a blended class. Can profs do that??
52% exam, if you mess up one assignment, good luck with the others.
NEVER TAKE HER CLASS!! She is not flexible at all! Her accent is so heavy, I usually can understand most accents, but I had to try so hard to keep up.Our class was during the York strike and she made it extra hard, our final was worth 52%, by the end I could both get an A+ or FAIL, I have no idea how I was doing in the class. She is the worst prof!
terrible teacher,
Very accommodating professor and reasonable material. Most criticism is about her accent but as a professor herself she is kind, responds to emails in a timely manner, and provides helpful prep for the midterm and exam. As well, she goes through assignments and offers help until fully understood. Paying attention in-class and to examples is a must.
The course material is challenging, but Marina is a dedicated professor. Paying attention in class and using Unstuck study for extra practice can really help. Overall, her teaching style is reasonable, though her accent may take some getting used to.
Worst prof I've had during my 4 years at York. She has no leniency for submissions and the course is designed for you to do bad. 52% final exam. If you do bad on one of the milestones it's a gamble to pass. I dropped the course. STAY FAR AWAY.
This professor is here to make education as difficult as possible - She does not answer questions with answers, but with insults or dismissal - She is not available during open office hours - She does not provide feedback in a meaningful timeframe for your milestones - Her Labs: No Explanation, only typing This professor should be avoided
