Really great professor! Everything was online, but she had iclickers to take attendance. Overall class was really easy and Gelfand was really helpful!
great teacher first exam average was a 90 makes lectures fun and relates to real life, occasionally cracks jokes
prof. gelfand was very lively during her lectures. Clickers for participation; a lot of the time she used it just to engage the class with either silly questions or ones she'd stick into the exam. very passionate, never boring, and used many examples in order to make the material stick. one of my favorites, id LOVE to have her again.
good professor, goes through slides really quickly in class so its hard to take consistent notes but she later posts them on Sakai. first exam is online. 2 exams, 1 final. I would recommend her. i-clicker for attendance. Gives many different opportunities for extra credit.
She's a very sweet person, and as long as you read the syllabus, do the homework, and go to class (for iclicker purposes), you will pass with flying colors.
Her exams are easy if you study. In the final there were questions like which video we did not watch in class, so participation is important. Everything you need to know is in her powerpoints. She is a nice person and willing to help. I wish there were more professors like her.
Really good professor. Has a postive attitude when she teaches. Class is all powerpoints (they're straight to the point) so its super easy to understand and 2 exams and a final. She TELLS you what to study. ICLICKER REQUIRED! participation and online quizzes (which are easy A's) are a big part of your grade. B+A guaranteed!
Just memorize the powerpoints and you will get an A on each exam. Very easy class. Definitely recommend her
Had her for general psych.I loved this class bc it was the most easiest class i was taking at that time. Don't skip lectures, do online homework, don't study for exams night before, pay attention in class and A guaranteed!
One of the easiest class I have taken at Rutgers. Highly Recommend. You don't need the book or pay attention in class. Read the powerpoint slides word for word and you will pass her exams. I crammed everything before each test and still did well. I ended up with an A.
I loved her class! She's great at teaching and her exams are straightforward! She super nice too. Can't wait to take her other classes! TAKE HER!
she is so sweet and her class is super easy. she offers extra credit too if your going to take social psych- take it with her. Easy A
Very easy professor. The exams and assignments are straight forward !
Prof. Gelfand is a good professor. Take her for psychosocial. Easy A. Beware lots of reading so plan ahead every week. There are two professors for this class. Both are good and nice.
Dr. Gelfand is one of the best professors I've ever had at RU. I interned at a challenging site this semester and she was really helpful throughout the entire experience! She is caring, funny and really passionate about her work. Apply for her internship program!
I took social psych online over the summer and there were blog posts and online quizzes, as well as a mandatory intro class and 2 exams. The work is time consuming but the material is easy. A lot of it is stuff from gen psych and abnormal psych and the new stuff is nothing difficult. Prof is super friendly and sweet.
This class is A LOT of work. Quizzes; assignments; forum posts; numerous, long, and outdated readings; and tricky exams. There are study guides but you basically have to know everything. The final was "non-cumulative" but there were questions from the midterm on there. Don't take this class without Socio and Psych 101, and don't take for an easy A!
I had Dr. Gelfand for my internship seminar and she's one of the best professors I've had. She's on top of everything and is so helpful with students' questions and concerns. The seminar did require purchasing two books, weekly assignments, journals, and finally an oral presentation along with some final reflection papers. A lot but manageable.
Took Dr. Gelfand for my internship seminar class, and she was amazing. She coordinates hundreds of students across dozens of sites and is personally involved with each student. Gelfand was awesome about being a liaison between the school and internship, and seemed to personally care about the success of each student. Definitely take.
Dr. Gelfand is an excellent professor. For the internship seminar, she sets out clear standards and lets you know what is expected of you. She is quick to respond to emails, serves as the perfect liaison between the internship site and the intern, and has plenty of career-relevant advice to give. Her lectures are engaging and worthwhile. 100% take.
Gelfand was amazing! Super sweet and knowledgable, cares about her students. Lectures and material were very interesting. Shows a lot of videos in class. Gives online quizzes that are easy. 3 exams, non-cumulative. Attendance is monitored by i-clicker questions and is 5% of your grade. All material is posted online. Take this class!
Gelfand is nice if not a bit scatterbrained. Asks irrelevant clicker questions for attendance, asks overly specific exam questions and uploads the study guides a single day beforehand, but is helpful and knowledgeable about the field. Grades fairly, gives some extra credit, and lets you retake the open-book chapter quizzes. for guaranteed As
Fascinating class, amazing professor, super interesting material. I loved how class was a mix of lecture, videos, and activities. Course work was manageable - three non-cumulative exams, quizzes. Attendance is mandatory but she's engaging and interesting so I didn't mind. Love how material relates to real life. One of the best classes at Rutgers!
Amazing person and professor! She keeps the class so engaged and shes really funny and knowledgeable. Attendance is taken by clicker and there are online quizzes throughout the semester. The tests are average hard but youll do well if you study. No textbook, just the powerpoint! Would take her again any day!!
The exams were really hard because you have to know so much material. The class itself is easy but if you don't do well on exams this class will drop your GPA. Exams are weighted heavily. I wish she gave more assignments instead to balance it out. She's a fun professor and its an interesting class but the way she grades really ruined it for me.
Exams are everything and the only grades you really get. There are occasional extra credit opportunities but they don't impact enough to pull you out of a hole. Exams are easy to study for but there are a few questions that she drops in lecture that are not on power-point. A lot of videos watched, very interesting course.
This class is an easy A. The exams reflect the study guide she hands out like PERFECTLY. Seriously, just copy & paste the powerpoint info into each topic on the study guide and memorize it. I got A's on all the exams and studied the day before. Give yourself around 10 hours to study for each exam. Make flash cards. All her quizzes are on quizlet.
Forensic Psychology is hands down one of my favorite classes at Rutgers. Gelfand does an excellent job of making the material interesting and teaching in a clear manner. I learned a great deal by attending all lectures (clicker Qs) and complete if the full study guide. Highly recommend for those interested in true crime, psych and serial killers !
forensic psych wasn't bad. she didnt replied to my emails and her office hours are by appointment so if you have a question be sure to ask her in person before/after class. Attendance is taken by iclicker and as long as u show up and study you'll be fine for the exams which make up most of ur grade. shes a pretty nice person and i liked her class
The internship program with Professor Gelfand was a great experience. She is a great professor. Her class guides you through the internship. There are a lot of papers and projects but they are spread out well.
Forensic psych itself is very interesting and I think the material is very easy to want to learn and she supplements a lot with videos to actually show you what she's teaching. Go to every lecture for clicker attendance points, take notes, review the powerpoint before class and do the study guides before exams and you should be good.
Professor Gelfand was a genuine and compassionate professor during the pandemic. She worked very hard at making sure her lectures were informative and that students could participate and love learning despite being online only.
Professor Gelfand is a VERY engaging and interactive teacher. She makes her lectures super insightful and long, but speaks enthusiastically. Shes soooo relatable and even brought her kids to class once (on zoom) just to explain a concept about developmental processes. TAKE HER FOR YOUR OWN SAKE! Trust me ull love the course even more.
Professor Gelfand does an amazing job teaching forensic psychology. She keeps the class engaged, and her exams are not hard at all. One of the best professors in the Psychology department.
Hands down THE best psych professor! Superrrr engaging lectures, interesting content, and not much work besides the quizzes (2 tries for each!) due before each exam, which are easy as well. Clicker points on TopHat aren't correctness based. Very kind and also understanding of students who struggle because of the pandemic. Take her!! Easy A
AMAZING PROFESSOR AND COURSE. If there's any class I suggest taking for psych it is definitely Forensic Psych. I took it online this semester due to COVID but Professor Gelfand was great. Material is soo interesting and she makes the class interactive! Exams are very fair and she provides you with many resources to do well.
LOVE HER! Forensic is the coolest psych elective you can take at Rutgers, her class is so interesting and not lots of work. Exams can be a bit tricky but for the most, if you pay attention in lecture you'll be fine. But she really is an amazing caring professor you will learn so much.
Took Forensic Psychology with her and it was so much fun! Her lectures are super fun and fascinating in nature and as long as you listen to the lectures you should be fine, even though the exams can get a little bit tricky sometimes.
Prof Gelfand is one of the nicest, funniest, and caring professors I've ever had. She gives plenty of opportunities to get an A and her exams are easy, especially if its open notes. She has great stories to tell and plenty of media to share. Forensic Psych is easily one of my favorite classes because she makes it so great.
I took Forensic Psych with Gelfand in the summer and it was the best decision I ever made. She's such an understanding prof and she engages you with the material rather than reading straight Powerpoint slides. She is very knowledgeable and makes class fun and interactive. Exams were very straightforward. I will always recommend her.
She's caring, funny, and makes forensic psychology so interesting. The class and exams are super easy. Attendance is mandatory though and part of your grade is from answering Tophat (clicker) questions. This is one of my favorite courses taught at RU and I highly recommend taking it with Gelfand.
The tests are fair - no tricks, no confusion. She's incredibly sweet and relatable, always makes the lectures enjoyable, and has great videos to go along with her class. MANY in-class extra credit opportunities. I promise that you will not regret taking her. Only downside is paying for TopHat, but most Psych classes use it nowadays.
Great lecturer! Prof Gelfand switches between watching videos and lecturing in class. Her TopHat questions are also very engaging. Exams are very fair. Overall a solid choice and one of the better professors in the psych department.
She is one of the best professors that I have had and the class is so interesting. She encourages participation and you can tell that she really loves psychology and teaching. Pretty low maintenance class- only exams and easy quizzes and the TopHat participation (no papers but lots of extra credit). She is super nice and I hope to take her again.
Dr. Gelfand's lectures were incredibly interesting and her exams were quite fair. Not the easiest A in the psych department, but fair and very, very worth taking.
Great lectures and videos. This class was very interesting. The professor is very chill and tells great stories. I found this class to be easy and you definitely recommend it.
As long as you attend lecture its an easy A class. Lectures are fun, lots of videos and material is super interesting. We all loved the professor!
This was my favorite class of my semester. She is so funny and tells lots of interesting stories. The subject is overall interesting and I am never bored. If you pay attention to lectures, you'll get an A. She also gave us an option for a "cheat sheet" for exams which was super helpful because of the transition into in-person classes.
Dr.Gelfand is an amazing prof, lectures are so fun and engaging and shes overall a great vibe. Not to mention, she makes the material even more interesting as it is. Workload is minimal, some quizzes, 3 exams, and tophat. She is great, deffo recommend.
One of the most chilled out yet very interesting classes I've ever had. Super nice teacher that makes class feel more like a fun activity rather than an actual class. Tests are pretty straightforward and quizzes were easy. She really wants you to succeed. Great sense of humor and is a very normal down to earth person.Highly recommended to everyone
Professor Gelfand is by far the best professor I've had at Rutgers. Not only is her work clear and easy, but it is very interesting as well. She really wants the best for you and your grade and is very kind.
Prof. Gelfand is so kind, and she really wants all of her students to succeed. Her emphasis is on learning rather than grades, and it is easy to do well in this class. She makes all of the lectures super interesting, and often uses her own stories throughout class. I would love to take another class by her!
Prof Gelfand's classes are always fun and interesting. She is literally the sweetest person ever and loves interacting with her students. Tests were multiple choice and quizzes were assigned every once in a while online. Attendance is part of the grade but overall students tend to really enjoy going to class.
This class was a lot of fun and Prof. Gelfand makes it interesting. Tests are somewhat hard and only graded on the exams and quizzes with some extra credit opportunities. I really enjoyed her class though
I didn't feel like I learned anything.. She's ok, but her undergrad TAs did NOT help. Information was easy, but the exam being made online made it inconvenient as a commuter & you couldn't backtrack so if you mistakenly put an answer, then good luck you probably just failed. If you take the course for credit & know stuff then you should be fine.
I personally wasn't a fan of her teaching style but a lot of people like her. She will spend the majority of class playing videos (and talking about herself) leaving you to learn the material on your own before exams. Quizzes are based on the textbook (can find online PDF). Cheat sheet or open book exams. You will learn interesting topics.
Amazing class and professor! Brought in what's going on in the news really well. Fair tests, cheat sheet or open notes. One of my favorite classes at Rutgers. Makes class super interesting...you actually want to go even if you didn't have to. Highly recommend.
Dr Gelfand is a great professor. I really enjoyed her forensic class. As long as u showed up 70% of the time u got full participation credit. We also got to use cheat sheets for all of the exams, and if you put in a little effort, its pretty easy to do well in the course. Class was interesting and entertaining. We watched a lot of videos too!!
I had her for the psych internship and I rly enjoyed the experience. learned alot from both my internship site and from her. We met with other interns online once a week to discuss assignments and how our weeks went. My group really bonded with eachother and had a lot of laughs! I am grateful to have done the internship, apply if u can! :)
Took prof gelfand for the internship. It was great & gave me clinical psych experience. I wish i could do the internship again bc u learn soo much in ur site and it was fun to hear about the other sites during class. taking her again for foundations of health bc her teaching style was so interesting. Deffo apply if u can bc shes also super nice
had her for forensic psych last spring and learned she did the internship so I took a shot at it. Even though I was scared that it was my first internship I got into a site and I really enjoyed it. Dr.g is really understanding too class was fun because we heard about the other internship sites and I made friends with the people at my site (: apply!
I REALLY enjoyed lectures with Prof Gelfand. The topics are fascinating on their own, but she adds so many cool examples, brings up topics from current events, talks about relatable things going on in our actual lives, and she has a really energetic, engaging style. Highly entertaining and also informative. 5/5 would highly recommend.
This internship course was a real highlight of my college experience. Practical real world experience. Small classes where you feel comfortable sharing, supportive professor, great communication. Helped me decide what I want to do in the future. Dr G seems to actually care about students and their future. Def take this opportunity if you can!
Professor Gelfand is one of the best professors I have ever had. Her lessons were fun, engaging, and interesting. Her class was a highlight of my year, and her fun, energetic attitude towards teaching really made the class an amazing experience. If you are considering taking this class, I highly recommend! Her tests are very straight forward 10/10
Professor Gelfand is a such an amazing professor and teacher. I loved her class so much- 10/10 recommend. She is such a sweet person, and really cares for all of her students. Her tests are all straight forward, and you can have a cheat sheet. Her fun, engaging teaching style makes the class so much fun. Definitely take this class!!
Professor Gelfand was such a caring, sweet professor. definitely recommend.
Professor Gelfand is the type of professor you dream about having. She is caring, nice, sweet, and a super amazing teacher. Her fun, energetic energy makes the class so much fun, and I enjoyed every second of her class. I would take this class a million more times if I could.
This class was a highlight of my year. Professor Gelfand is the best teacher I have ever had. Her energy, and teaching style really makes everyone engaged in the class. You won't regret taking this class.
If you don't take this class, you will regret that choice. This was my most interesting, fun, engaging, etc. class of all my years of college. Professor Gelfand brings examples from day-to-day life, and incorporates it into the topic we are learining. She is such a kind, amazing, caring professor. 1000000/10 recommend
deff recommend she was so nice and caring. i loved this class bc she was super engaging, and energetic towards teaching the class, and I learned so much. normally i struggle a little, but proff. gelfand was such a good teacher, and erxplained everything so well that i understood everyrhing she was saying bc she is so amazing. take this class fs.
she is so good. she is not only an amzing proff, but also an amazing person. her teaching is out of this world, and she brings real life examples for topics we're learining for example, she brought her kids to class once, and we learned about juvenile justice. Take her class i recommend so much
proff gelfand was such a good teacher, and she really wanted everyone to succeed. she really cares about you, and she is also such an amazing teacher.
i reccomend prof gelfand, she is a great porf. i would love to take her class again
I usually struggle a lot but proff gelfand is really caring, amd she helped me a lot. she is very energetic and engaging towards the class
great proff def reccomend
Quite literally the nicest professor ive ever had. Makes the class really engaging and I enjoyed it so much
The topic was interesting; the professor wanted you to learn and clearly showed interest. However, when she said her class was an easy A, I did not expect her tests to be this challenging and to be completed within the 1hr time (too many questions, but I have to say that I learned). There is a textbook, and she uses a Tophat for attendance.
Professor Gelfand was such a great professor! Definitely the best professor I've ever had. If I had any issues, she would always do her best to try to solve the problem. Her lectures aren't only very interesting and informative, but they are also fun.
Professor Gelfand is honestly the best professor at Rutgers. She cares so much about you. She said the class was an easy A and it really was. As long as you show up, and study a little this class will be very easy. She also allows a cheat sheet, so that helps for the things that you just can't remember.
You only have to get 75% of the TopHat questions (based on participation, not correctness) to receive full attendance credit. The class was almost too easy, especially for those who are truly interested in Forensic Psychology. Dr. Gelfand is working on a Forensic Psychology II course, which I will be interested in.
Her class is very easy and enjoyable. Attendance matters but you only have to be there for 75% of the TopHat questions to get all the participation feedback so it's okay to skip sometimes. The tests are fairly easy as long as you study a little bit, she also lets you make a cheat sheet. Also no final- just 3 quizzes.
Definitely an easy and fun class. Watch a lot of videos, but the professor interrupts them every three seconds so you will have to watch them on your own outside of class. Tests are very long, but not hard and they are open notes. Class is unorganized and rushed, but the professor is nice and gets sidetracked a lot so I guess it is a fun class.
Loved this class. Engaging, interesting, and fun. Learned a lot - great topics, interesting discussions (even though it's a large lecture class). Tests are fair and not too hard. One of my favorite classes at Rutgers
The prof was very unorganized, we were always rushing through videos/lectures and rarely finished in class. She wastes time telling so many random stories about herself (and using them as exam questions). If you're interested in this class, just know its still new and clearly needs to be tweaked a bit. I personally wouldn't take this prof again.
Loved this class. It was super interesting. Especially enjoyed the videos we watched in class that we discussed as a group. Tests are not hard. Material is super fascinating. Would definitely take again
Really fun class...one of my favorite classes ever. The entire semester was interesting and engaging. Great information and videos. Loved the teaching style - it was entertaining and kept me engaged. I wanted to come to class every week. Will miss this class
She's so real. I loved her for forensic psych. She takes the boring out of big lectures by using tophat questions so we can all participate and discuss about the lectures. I definitely wish to have gotten to talk to her in person she seems like such an amazing person. Anyways yeah loved her I wish she taught more classes.
I took this class in the summer, it was online, but it had set meeting times for zoom. Halfway through the course she kept rescheduling class to other days during the week when I couldn't get on zoom and receive credit for attendance. Other than this, she is a great professor just a little unorganized.
Loved this professor. Such an interesting class. The summer class was set up well with live zoom lectures, with lot of flexibility. If we couldn't make it to a class, we could watch it back and submit answers to questions to get full attendance credit. Engaging, great stories. Would love to take other classes with her
Dr. Gelfand was fascinating, caring, and very accessible!
Nice professor, pretty easy as well. Attendance is mandatory with daily Tophat poll questions. There are 3 exams (non-cumulative) and some Canvas take-home quizzes here and there. Fun and interesting class !
My favorite class at Rutgers! Fun, interesting, interactive. The professor made a 300+ person lecture feel like a small discussion class. Had a great time in class, and also learned a lot. Highly recommend
she was my favorite professor during my fall semester as a transfer student, she's kind and shows to care about what she's teaching and is very enthusiastic. the class isn't hard; just have to attend and do tophats for attendance and make sure u get your work done.
She does tophat questions (w/ location feature) every class for attendance. The material is really interesting and we watched several documentaries. All the exams are online and open note. No homework but about 15 quizzes across the semester (open note and you get 2 tries). There are a few extra credit options. Wouldn't recommend skipping class
One of the best professors at Rutgers!
I wanted to leave a review for Dr Gelfand as it's long overdue- to anyone scared about taking her courses at all- don't be!! She's amazing!! She's so reasonable and more than fair. I've gone through a lot while I've been in school, and Dr Gelfand has been so understanding. She's a queen!! Take her courses!! I've definitely learned the most in them.
Professor Gelfand is amazing! She makes complex concepts easy to understand and genuinely cares about her students' success. Her classes are engaging, and she's always available to help. Assignments are fair, and her feedback is super helpful. If you can, take her class — you won't regret it!
Professor Gelfand is the best professor I've had at Rutgers! She genuinely cares about her students and sets you up for success. The internship course is flexible, meets once a week on Zoom, and offers great support and insight. Highly recommend for psych majors—it's a valuable and rewarding experience!
The internship was the single most meaningful experience I've had in my four years at Rutgers. Professor Gelfand goes above and beyond to make sure students have the best experience, and offers tons of support and guidance. I loved the small seminar classes, and recommend the internship to any psych major
I really do not enjoy this class. It is mandatory for the internship and I would not have taken it otherwise. The prof assigns so much work that isn't even relevant to any of our sites. We have to attend the zoom with cameras on every week and we can't be around others, not even our roommates, even though the class goes until 11pm. LOTS of work.
Best professor at Rutgers! Makes class fun and interesting. I actually love going to class. Great videos, and super interesting discussions even in a large lecture hall
The seminar/internship was the highlight of my college career. I've TA'd over 4 semesters, made enduring connections with Dr. G + Dr. T, helped prepare me and get me into grad school, mentored interns, + met one of my closest friends. I've taken 3 of Dr. G's classes, she is a great professor. Through this class, Ive left a legacy of my own!
WOW WOW WOW! I am not a Psych major, but it is my minor and I love this class. She makes the exam terms and cases fun, entertaining, and easy to remember EVERYTHING on it is on the slides. I don't know if this class will be available in the future but any class with Professor Gelfand, PLEASE TAKE IT SHE IS ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS I HAVE EVER HAD
Professor Gelfand is so so sweet and is so down to earth and truly an amazing professor and she made the class so engaging!
LOVE PROFESSOR GELFAND SO SO MUCH. She really wants you to do well, makes the class super engaging, and makes you want to learn. Wish I had her for all my classes.
Phenomenal professor. Class is a blast...even with hundreds of people. And even with talking about all the dark stuff in Forensic Psych (like serial killers)! Somehow this professor makes everything fun and interesting. I'll really miss this class
Amazing lecturer, very engaging, incredibly knowledgeable. Class was super easy and she was the nicest person ever. Tons of extra credit opportunities and most quizzes and exams were open-note.
The internship was the best experience I've had at Rutgers. I'm so grateful for professor Gelfand! So accessible and supportive. The internship put me on the career path I'm on now, and helped me so much with networking and figuring things out. Highly recommend this course
Best class ever! Loved the material. Lots of videos and interesting cases, and the professor always had great stories. Class always flew by
- this professor was severely unorganized and was not clear at times, i am grateful for the opportunity to have taken this course however i believe this program could do wonders with a different instructor, be wary of this professor.
Dr. Gelfand was wonderful to work with. She cared so much about the students and their success, and supported us throughout. This internship was a major stepping stone in my career. Loved the program itself and the class that goes with it. I think every psych major should do this internship
Loved the positive, warm, and welcoming atmosphere the professor created in the classroom. We all felt comfortable even though there were hundreds of people in the class. Super interactive and interesting. Professor Gelfand is amazing! Take whatever she teaches
This professor is the best! Loved the videos and the great discussions. Everyone I know loved this class - so many people recommended it to me
This internship gave me the confidence and connections to pursue my career. Professor Gelfand knew exactly which site would work for me, and supported me throughout. I loved the small class setting, and hearing about other sites. This internship was a highlight of my four years at Rutgers
Amazing class, amazing professor. Would take anything she teaches! The best
Dr. Gelfand is an AMAZING professor! Forensic psych was sooo interested, and easily one of my favorite classes at my whole time at Rutgers! Really recommend
This internship class gave me the direction I needed in my career. I am so grateful for this program and for all of the help Dr. Gelfand offered me.
Love gelfand, had her for forensic and did her internship this summer! she is so funny and makes class very engaging with her stories. Uses tophat unfort, but you are able to miss a couple classes. Exams are online and not difficult, but there are questions based on her stories and the readings/videos from class!
