Do not take this class if it's once a week. I took her for Chem 2 and the people I knew who took it online were doing really well, while my whole class was struggling. Her quizzes are 1-5 questions usually, she hasn't changed her tests in years, and her wording is confusing. Skip this professor and take her husband. Teaching isn't her passion.

Very smart woman, she has so many degrees it's impressive, but her teaching is terrible. EXPECT TO TEACH YOURSELF. She wants you to know everything from reading book, will miss class often, teaches entire chapter in one day then gives you a 5 question quiz or 16 question test that gives no room for error

Every class you review a PowerPoint she does examples and explains concepts. There is no daily homework all chapter homework assigned is due before you take the test. If you do the homework you get a 100% it is a completion grade and really helps bump your grade up. There is a quiz after every chapter and a test usually after ever two.

She is very nice and kind to students. She does examples that are similar on the test, so you should copy it down. Tests and quizzes can be easy if you study, because there are no tricky questions. Final exam is VERY important to study for. Would take her again for Chem2 but she does hybrid classes in fall which is hard for me. Overall, she's great

Go to class. Listen if possible. Do the homework's (they take max 2 hrs once a week). Study her examples she goes over in class. She's clearly a very intelligent woman, chem 2 is supposed to be a challenging course, don't get surprised when you have to study to do well. Its not impossible, she's a good teacher, its up to your studying.

Her heavy accent would be fine if her lectures were comprehensible but they're not. She goes too fast, what she covers Isnt even accurate to what goes on the quizzes and tests. Her SI is also too fast and not helpful. I can't recommend her unless you're strong at math or similar.

She will use a quarter of the class to tell you about her personal life and then rushes explaining problems. Her excuse for going fast is that "well, I'm a professional". She's a very smart woman with some interesting life stories, but if you don't have a background in chemistry it's very difficult to pass this class. Lectures are fast-paced, and quizzes and tests don't reflect what's learned and can be worded badly. For the future student reading this, for the love of god listen to the more recent reviews before making a decision. If you are highly independent and self-driven AND you are not taking too many difficult classes. You MIGHT be okay. You better be good at self-teaching, because that is all you will do, good luck.

Marina Rines spoke literally once at the introduction of the class and we have never seen her again. This is literally a "pay full price but teach yourself" type of class. Her quizzes, tests and homework is extremely difficult with no support from her. I don't recommend her.

Dr. Rines is a wonderful professor. She put my success first, she was very quick at responding to all my emails. I had a few times where I missed assignments and she was very gracious to allow me to make it up. Her lectures were all very clear and allowed us to see MANY examples on how to work through problems.

You can tell she cares, quick email responses, easy disc. posts, double check test/quiz grading because system auto generates ?'s and grading. I don't know why Dr. Rines has received so many negative reviews, she is indeed amazing. She responds to emails quickly. Read through her PowerPoint slides, do homework, and you'll be golden. She drops the lowest of 4 tests. Just put on the work and you'll get the grade you want. Dr. Rines and her SI will help you succeed in this class.

Your whole grade is based on tests and quizzes. Mind you the quizzes are only like 6-8 questions but each question is not weighted the same. You can get all 5/6 right but if you miss that one question that's 30pts you pretty much already failed. If you care about your GPA and have a social life out of school like work don't take this class.

Took CHM1045 with Dr. Rines and thought CHM1046 would be a breeze. Nope, couldn't be more wrong. It's a self study type of class. I relied more on my tutors and the homework problems to study than the professor actually teaching. If you want to suffer from self studying and powerpoint lectures that barely help for the tests/quizzes, be my guest.

Chemistry is a tough subject, but this professor surely doesn't make it any easier. The test examples are useless; they're rarely similar to the exams. Pearson's homework takes hours, days, or even weeks to complete, and doesn't help with the quizzes she assigns. Their assignments don't match Pearson's curriculum, you won't even know what to study.
