Melo is a very fun teacher. He is extremely bright so he knows how to show you tricks for later. his tests are fairly easy, homework is about the same for any math class. He does have an accent so if thats a deal breaker then i would go somewhere else. Other than that i would highly recommend He was great
Cesar is easily the sickest/ best math teacher i have had in my entire life! its so easy to understand after he teaches you. he is an extremely light going teacher and pushes due dates back and test dates to give you more time. he is the best!!
Calc II is a hard class, there is no way around that. Cesar does his best to make sure the problems are understood. I would have liked a little more structure, but he is very laid back and understanding. Good class.
Fantastic job teaching this class! I never understood trig so well. He has great examples and methods on how to solve the problems. Couldn't have picked a better teacher.
Wow! This guy is amazing. He has an accent, that is easy to get over. If you don't get something, he will explain it and give example after example until you do. Make it easier on yourself and go to class, even though it's not required. He gives oppurtunities for extra credit in class, so you might as well just go to class.
Excellent teacher, helpful and patient.
Mario is amazing. I hated math my whole life and he made this subject easy to understand and fun. I really enjoyed this class and wish there were more teachers like Mario!
Mario made this class simple to understand. He is a brilliant person and cares that his students do well. He gives extra credit if you come, and you're only doing yourself a disservice if you don't because he shows you how to do things in a different way. Hands down the best teacher I've ever had.
I agree with all the good reviews, he is an awesome teacher that makes it more than possible to get an A and understand the material at the same time. He is a really good math professor.
Took Math 1050 Mario is a great teacher. He stays on topic and answers question. He is kind and helpful. When doing the homework use the student solutions manual to help you learn the material.
I took this class online from Melo. There is a lot of work involved but then it is a 4 credit hour class. At the end of the semester, he let us pick 1 module test we could retake if we wanted. He also allowed late work but 30% taken off of score. I highly recommend Melo.
honestly I feel like I paid for math credit. I'm sure mario is great in person but as far as an online course plan on watching a lot of you tube videos and reading the book. I don't think I would recommend the online course unless you pretty much already know the math. but then if that's the case why are you taking it anyway
Registered for a lecture course and ended up in one formatted as a combo of lecture and online (they call it TNG). All an all, get ready to teach yourself algebra. Not sure how much as due to the instructor or the way the course was structured. You wont know its a TNG until the first day of class.
Cesar is the bomb. His tests are kind of difficult, but not too bad. He has a unique sense of humor as you get to know him. Has a small accent as other reviews have stated, but I understood him perfectly. I would recommend him to anyone. He goes at your pace and is very knowledgable. No pressure, many examples, clear notes. In short: take from him.
This class was pretty hard (especially for those of us that aren't great at math). The teacher was very helpful, easy to understand, gives extra work for easy points to help better your grade. Nice guy... I recommend him!
Mario is the best math teacher I have ever had! He is very helpful and willing to take time to make sure you truly understand the concepts. He also is very funny and keeps the class interesting. I would recommend him to anyone!
Amazing, amazing professor. The type who really wants to help students succeed & will help them out any way that he can! I loved him, he was awesome!
Cesar really wants you to succeed, and he is very willing to stop the lecture in order to make sure everyone understands. Unlike other math classes I've taken, he talks to students one on one to make sure they understand the material. His tests are a little hard, but they're fine if you study and do the homework.
I took Calculus 2 from Melo. The material is difficult, but he is good at clarifying the material. I would probably have to say he is also more generous in grading than I deserved, the key to his class is to do the homework and the practice problems he gives you for the exam. Don't get behind in Calculus.
Melo is the best math professor at SLCC. Simple as that. The higher you go in math the harder it is to find a quality professor. They're all smart but don't know how to effectively teach. Well, Cesar does. Tests aren't too bad. He tells you what to study and he asks a question from there. He has 4 tests but drops lowest.
This professor is the reason I'm still pursuing a degree in math. I came into college hating math until i stumbled onto Melo in 1010. He changed the way I understood math. I just had him again for 1220 and there is no better teacher at SLCC. He's a fair grader and will give a few extra points on tests. 4 tests and he drops one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER. I have been to USU, SLCC and the U. Mario is still my fave math teacher EVER. He not only understands the subject, understands when students don't get it. He really tries to help and wants his students to succeed. If only all math professors were just like him.
AWESOME teacher! Probably the best I've had at SLCC so far. I was going to drop the class at the beginning but I'm glad I didn't. Super helpful! Really wants you to pass. Laid back as well! Understandable on attendance. Lots of homework but its a 4 credit class and all Math 1010 has lots of hw. I didn't need to buy the book.
Excellent teacher who is really willing to help his students out. We used myopenmath for all homework, it's annoying at first but very helpful with step by step videos. He is quick to email back on questions, and he likes to joke around in class but doesn't get too off topic and waste time. He has an accent, but it isn't hard to understand.
Such an AMAZING teacher! So nice and cares about what you struggle with. Answers all questions and makes you feel confident allowing you to do good in the class. Best math teacher I've ever had. Made me actually like math!
It doesn't matter who the professor is, MATH1010 is not an easy class unless you are good at math already. Melo makes it as easy as possible, really helpful and homework is done online. He uses myopenmath(Which is FREE, no book required). He goes really fast when solving problems on the board but if you ask him to slow down he will. GREAT PROFESSOR
Mario is a great teacher. That is why I took the class. Unfortunately, in this online class there is no chance for him to teach. There are some bad videos, and examples. This class is super hard. The Math 1100 from the business dept. is way easier. Mario is still the nice, helpful teacher he has always been.
Melo was an excellent math teacher and he got me to really enjoy math again. He has a bit of an accent but you can still understand him and he has a fun sense of humor. BONUS: He didn't use a textbook!
Math 1010 its going to be a difficult class with homework but Melo makes it a decent class. He talks & work through problems fast but he will slow down if you ask. Homework is only 10% of your grade so you don't have to do it but it does help. No book needed, He does everything online and has videos which are really helpful. OVERALL Great Professor
Awesome Teacher and very easy class as well. I would take his class again!!!
Cool guy. I can't keep up with him cus he jumps around which makes me more confuse.
I took this class online- which I feel was much harder than had I taken it a classroom. The professor was quick to answer emails, his syllabus told you everything that was expected. If you are taking it online - be prepared to spend 10-15 hours a week. There is so much to cover - and not a lot of time. He was a great teacher for online.
I don't think I could have found a better teacher than Mr. Melo for Math 1010. He was extremely helpful, reliable, and efficient when it came to running this class. I would suggest this teacher to anyone looking to finish math with a fair grade. I will say, this class does require you to put in the time and effort. Still by far a great class!
He used My math lab and every night there was an assignment due. I never really needed a book the online examples provided by the my math lab and the videos were enough to get me through the class. Overall it is a good class. He lets you take the tests up to 99 times except for the midterm and the final but the repetition helps.
Melo is a great teacher, he always asks if you need help and makes you want to ask questions, if you have them. You don't want to miss class. Make sure you have the time and drive to want to get a good grade in his class. If you miss a class you can fall behind. He goes at a good fast pace, make sure to make time for homework and projects.
I failed Math 1010 the first time around but not with him! I got an A this time around. He is a very good instructor, clear, funny, and helpful! I would take this course from him again.
Professor Melo was an excellent instructor. Any time I had a question about the homework he would respond quickly and would respond with a detailed answer to my homework questions. He works well with students. I had an unexpected surgery and he worked well with me although I was only auditing the course. He is willing to help. Great instructor.
He is an awesome teacher. I took his class last fall. He is very flexible with his homework due date as long as you turn them in before the end of the semester. But it helps a ton if you finish them on time as it refresh your memory. There are a couple tests during the semester. He gives out practice materials that are similar to the tests.
I did like Melo -- He was a good teacher, but I really hated this class. Firstly, I took it Tuesday and Thursday for two 12 hours per class. I died an hour into it. If I had to do this class all over again I would go for shorter spans a few more times per week. And do NOT get behind on homework, everything is due at the end of the semester.
Sometimes he can be hard to undertand because of his accent. He responds to emails. He has a lot of students so don't expect to get any extra attention. He is nice. Show up to the lectures AND do the homework. You will pass.
He is a good teacher that I have never seen in math. He go straight to the topic that we need to solve. And also giving you a fasting way to solve math problem. I would love to take his class for all the next math in this college.
This was my second time taking Math 1010 and Professor Melo was an excellent asset. He explains things clearly and answers emails promptly. He puts videos on canvas with the homework to help you through it. This class is totally doable if you study and put in the time!
AWESOME teacher! Probably the best I've had at SLCC so far.
He is so good, I like his way to show students how math is simple. there is a lot of homework more than it should be, you need 2 to 3 hours for one single section which made the class a lot harder. he gives 10% for homework, 5% for quizzes and 5% for videos so you have to do it.
Great professor I highly recommend. I was afraid to take this class because I am not very good at math but he is patient and very helpful. Be prepared to attend class and do lots of homework online.
He is a great teacher. Answers all your questions and really wants you to succeed. There is homework, but it's a math class, you have to expect that. I've never laughed so much in a math class!
Cesar was probably the best math professor I have ever had. He is very clear in his lectures and slows down if you don't get something. There was quite a bit of homework, but he is a really easy grader so I never got less than 100% on the homework. Also he is really generous when grading tests and allows test corrections.
Easy math class and funny professor. I mean easy comes easy for me but everyone in the class loved him and passed with a B or higher. Lectures were not mandatory but it's math so it's best not to skip class. All his homework was online and test were easy as could be if you studied the material
He is niece and helps you understand the subject but sometimes he skips some basic steps which can make you be confuse but he is willing to explain. You'll have 4 exams during the semester. It's better if you go to class and don't miss a day. He lets you do the 3 assignments in class which is helpful. Overall he is a great professor
Awesome experience; Cesar cares about his students and wants them not only to learn the material, but to succeed. He will even take the time to teach you how to use your calculator if you don't know.
This class was tough, but Cesar does his best to show different ways of solving the equations, because what works for some does not work for all. He also teaches some short cuts that make it easier. He wants you to pass and will help you.
I took an online class, he was very helpful responded quickly.
Makes math way easier. Will stay in the classroom for longer to explain individually. 100% RECOMMENDED.
Hahhhahah such an easy class, but you can tell that he doesn't really care sometimes. It's nice cause you wouldn't have to show up to class but you could still pass the tests I feel like. Easiest class. Please take him I recommend him so hard. first year in college and he was such a catch
Marios is an amazing professor, he gives homework and it is easy some problems are really tough. If you do the homework you will ace his exams. Because they are really similar. If you struggle with math i don't recommend taking mario because he does kind of go fast, but if you can keep up, he really is a great professor.
Not the hardest thing I have ever done but the hardest class I have ever taken. He does a good job lecturing if only he would slow down just a bit. The tests as well as the homework are tough but that is not because of him. I would say 22/25 people did not even finish the final but again that was not his fault. Hopefully I will pass but not sure.
You pretty much don't have to even come to class, everything is online. He lectures a little too quickly and it's not very interesting. Tests were straightforward. Quizzes were insanely hard. The final was SO hard 90% of the class didn't finish, but that's not his fault. Not very personable, I don't think he knew a single person's name.
Professor Melo is great. I took this class online and he has answered every one of my emails promptly. He seems like a great guy. As far as the course work goes, be prepared to work hard, do the homework, keep up with the schedule, and you will do just fine.
Prof Melo is a great teacher. His style is excellent, although he goes a bit fast if you ever stop him to ask a question or redo a problem he's more than happy to help you out without getting frustrated. He responds to emails very promptly. He also gives you a chance to earl extra credit.
He is awesome, Ive never laughed so frequently in a math class. Granted, there was a lot of good chemistry in the class. But it was the funnest math class I have ever had. I learned everything I needed to had made a lot of good friends. Nobody in that class forgets to +C I was completely ready for the final :)
Melo is great. 1220 was tough, but can certainly be done if you manage your time properly. If you're not dedicated, it will be a rough ride.
Make sure you go to class the first day so you don't get dropped from the class! (SLCC Policy) Lectures were entertaining and set you up to be successful on exams. Lots of cool little tricks that you can learn. Tests were very fair and all show-your-work problems, which gives him an opportunity to give you at least partial credit.
Calc 2 is the hardest math of them all. Taking this online from Melo was the best decision I've ever made after failing from both Weber State and Utah state. There is a ton of homework but he gives you the answers. Gives you awesome test review problems that are almost EXACTLY like exams so I always felt prepared for the tests. Highly Recommend!!
A real great guy. Really cares that you understand the material. After many problems he'll walk around helping students one-on-one. Grading is based on assignments and tests. That's it. You'll have to really work for a good grade. He does have a moderate accent so be aware of that. Responds to emails and is easy to get a hold of.
Such an awesome, caring, and knowledgeable teacher. I took his class online but he was very quick to respond every time and would send pdf's of the work if you needed it. I will say, he tests HARD! There were problems on the final that were derived from some of the hardest homework problems I thought we had. Study the extra extra mile!
Great professor. He moves through the lecture quickly and sometimes its tough to keep up but hes more than willing to review anything you dont understand. He also provides a practice exam before each test, helps a ton. Go to class and pay attention. Youll pass with flying colors
Easiest online teacher to get a hold of for me (email), and most helpful. And I've taken a lot of online classes. On the exams, he gives you points for what he can. Will be taking his 1220 online class. He's cool.
Prof Melo is an awesome teacher. The class was difficult but doable if you attended his lectures and completed the homework. His test are based of review questions from the homework. I got an A on all but one of the 4 tests which is still pretty cool. The final was a little challenging as it's written by the department. Study, study, study!
Cesar is a really nice guy and he makes sure that you understand the material. He answers questions really well and is always willing to help. As long as you take notes, do the homework, ask questions, etc. you'll do good in the class.
Took his class online and was really impressed by how he grades and how quickly he answered my emails in Canvas. He is very helpful when you need it. I am now taking his 1220 class online as well. Still impressed.
Mario was a great teacher. As someone who has not taken math in awhile he is worth taking. He is not a tough grader cares more about you understanding the concept. Cares about you succeeding. Math will always be a class you will need to put effort in no matter what teacher, but if your looking through the course list and trying to decide take him.
This guy is funny, awesome, and great at his job! I took both Calc I and Calc III from him, and I know the material upside down and insde out. He teaches in a great way, and he has a quirky sense of humor. No powerpoints, just ACTUAL teaching. I took him twice, and was excited about it. So... that should be what you are looking for :D
The best professor I've ever had! His lectures were always on topic and helpful and then he'd come around the class and help us with our homework and answer any questions we had. Super nice teacher and wanted you to understand. He would take the time to explain things if you didn't understand and always checked up on every student individually.
Professor Melo is awesome! He teaches at BYU at the Salt Lake Center now, but he's really good and caring. Sometimes he goes a little fast, but he's always willing to stop and answer questions
The best math teacher I've ever had. 1210 was a horrible experience for me due to my previous teacher. The first day of 1220 with Cesar I already noticed a difference. He goes up to everyone in the class after a lecture to make sure everyone's got it down. He provides so many resources outside of class, and always responds to emails. Choose him!
Wow! one of the best professors I ever have in my college life. He makes you comfortable at each stage of course. He has well set up an online course . The book is online and free. It was an online class , we have 2 midterms and one final exam. He provides exam review problems like a two weeks ago before any exam. Take with him !!!
This class was online so I practically taught myself with the help of the textbook. But Cesar was very willing to help and answer any questions about the homework. His tests were very similar to his reviews which were very similar to the homework problems. Just be prepared to teach yourself!
I ended up having a really hard time switching to online classes when COVID hit, including being diagnosed with depression and anxiety, which made my motivation to do school tank. Professor Melo was really understanding though and went above and beyond to make accommodations for me to still pass his class, so I would highly recommend him. Great guy
He's nice. He cares. Do everything and you get an A. Study for exams. Knew many who failed and dropped but that's bc they were cramming the day b4. Did online with lecture. Turn in your work after exams in a canvas message for partial points. Drops worst exam grade If final grade is better. Final no partial credit. I had an a but c on final. Hard
I really liked Cesar. I enrolled in calculus with him for the fall. He is really smart and was thorough with his zoom lectures. I liked that you could rewatch the recorded lectures. He didn't take attendance, but don't recommend taking a math class and not show up for lecture. A lot of homework.
I utterly drowned in the amount of homework assigned in this class, and fell so far behind in homework that I couldn't pass the several midterms because I wasn't caught up on the material. Putting effort into these homeworks cause me to suffer severely in my other classes. You must memorize about 25 formulas, give or take, NO open notes.
Overall, was nervous to take math in college and especially online. He did such a good job, I felt like I understood everything. When we had broadcasted calls, I even precipitated. Always answered all my questions and gave good feedback. If I have failed the final it will be on me not him.
REALLY struggled with this professor! Flies through the material and expects you to memorize without explaining the concepts. Learned more from the online videos than from him. Responds quickly to questions though and tried to be helpful with any question I had. If you only need review this will work for you. I will NOT be taking him again!
If you are wondering if you should take Melo? Yes. 100%, 110%. He's the best math teacher at Slcc without a doubt in my mind. If you don't get an A in his class you need to go to a psychiatrist because there is definitely something wrong with you lol. His class was so easy it hurts, but you also actually LEARN things. Who would've thought.
I took math 1010 during summer so that's why it was test heavy. He is a great teacher, but he tends to skip some steps because he's confident the students have a solid background already. Math is difficult for me, so I prefer to have every little step shown. Ask him and he'll do it though. He is great with replying quickly too.
I took Mr. Melo for my first math class in quite sometime in an Online Lecture format where you could ask question over Zoom and it was great! He always opened if anyone had any questions from the homework. He was very helpful and the tests were based on the reviews which was very nice. I definitely would take again!
He went over the topics pretty quickly.
Melo is my favorite professor, he always response to my emails quickly, gives very good feedback and positive comments, also gives an extra credit. I highly recommend this course with Professor Melo.
He is the best professor everrrrrr.
Giving only 2 stars because whiles he's super friendly, his course canvas is really unorganized and for the first midterm he didn't do any lectures. Homework had questions that weren't covered in lessons/videos attached. His midterms and homework were nothing like the final either. Pretty small workload for a math class and funny teacher!
Putting this follow up review because I accidentally rated him as "awful" in the last one and I can't change it - he's not awful. He's an okay/good professor! Just disorganized with Canvas and expect to learn a lot on your own outside of lectures/videos provided.
Great teacher, I never had any major issues. Some assignments had far too much homework (e.g. 26 problems 5 minutes each, 10-15min if you had issues), and the final exam had a lot of problems for the time given IMO (and I knew essentially everything). Get ready to spend 20-35 hours a week on this class, it's a ton of work. Too much in my opinion.
He has been one of the best and fairest math professors I have ever had! He tries to give you as much credit as he can on exams, so long as you clearly tried on the problems you get partial credit, even if you get the answer wrong. There is a ton of homework, expect to do extra research too. His midterms are super similar to his lesson reviews.
Not a fan of his online course structure, expect to learn mostly independently--the videos that are provided are often very dissimilar from the hw, and many of the questions had no accompanying videos or examples so you're left on your own. He was always responsive in canvas and his tests were very similar to his reviews which goes a long way.
Cesar is one of the most caring professors I've had. He is really understanding and genuinely wants his students to succeed. I had a lot going on and told him I couldn't keep up, so he gave me extra time and didn't count it as missing. He gives lots of extra credit, and makes hard material more bearable. Just didn't like how SLCC set up the class
The online course was mainly learning by yourself, I had to use chegg to help figure out some problems bc I couldn't find videos explaining well. The midterms are extremely similar to the practice ones, just do those and ur fine. He also posts video exam reviews. He's a forgiving grader and gives you points back when showing your work.
One of my favorite professors! I can admit in the beginning it was a little difficult to keep up but as long as you show up to the online lectures then it is worth it and he will help you out with whatever you need!
Cesar is the most caring and nice professor I've had. He will help you in any way you need, just ask. The SLCC curriculum is a bit confusing but he tries to make it easier. He's funny and willing to give extra credit, help, and extensions when needed. I had my wedding and he was very helpful and nice about giving me extra help.
The online course requires a lot of independent learning, but the professor is helpful and responsive. Utilize the textbook, practice problems, and resources like unstuck AI for study prep to succeed in this course.
Just Straight Horrible.
the professor is kind, but 99% of his reviews are done incorrectly. you will quickly find that you can't trust any of the answers you see in the exam review videos lol.
I was really nervous for this course coming in but Mr. Melo is amazing! It answers questions very quick on canvas and it is always open for questions. Night classes were always fun and informative. I would recommend taking this course with this professor!
He is indeed a nice person, but he goes way too fast on his lectures, making it difficult to catch up as he tends to skip steps making things even more confusing. By far this has been one of the most difficult classes I've taken in a long time, topics are not THAT difficult but what makes it hard is that there is barely any clear explanation.
Good guy, but don't take online class. Bad handwriting, has an accent, goes too fast, and has a boring & dull teaching style.
Cesar was an amazing professor, he's funny, caring, and is good at teaching. He goes a little fast but has help videos that you can rewatch. He makes his exams and reviews similar to the final which helps a lot. Attendance is based on doing a group quiz that you can have help on to get 100%. Great guy and I wish he taught calculus 2 next semester.
While Cesar does go fast in his lectures, he is very patient and will slow down or go back to previous problems if you just ask him. He has group quizzes (grades on participation) at the end of class that act as attendance, and he walks around the room to help if you need it. He is a great teacher if you get to have one-on-one time with him.
Easily one of my favorite professors! There were concepts that took me weeks to *not* learn in other classes that he was able to teach me in just a sentence or two. He's usually the first to respond to emails and the first to grade my work. The SLCC math department has strict requirements, but its not crazy and its the same for every professor.
Cesar is a good guy, usually he does online homework, but this section he did on paper, which I prefer. He teaches with annotated PowerPoint and explains everything well, but if he goes over something quick(for good reason)then stop him and make him explain why, he was always chatty when asked. I loved his class. He's smarter than the textbook.
I took the class online, and he is easy to reach out to and responds quickly. He's a great teacher. He also great at explaining any concept that you may need help understanding and was helpful. You as the student need to do the work, and keep up with it, but as long as you do that, he has so many resources in the course to use. Great teacher!
You learn more by watching the videos than by going to his class. He is all over the place and doesn't explain things very well. Also, the exam review days are a waste because he doesn't use any of those questions on the exam. His exams have a lot of trick questions, and most of the questions you haven't seen, so be prepared for that!
