I took English 20 since I fared poorly in 21A. He actually teaches things you probably never learned in previous English classes. If you put the time and effort he will waive you to English 1. Attendance is important, that was the difference between an A and a C. Still managed to get waived to English1

Garcia is a great English teacher that gives plenty feedback. He will assign essays but they won't be tough as long as you follow directions. There are tests but only on a book you'll most likely be reading (it's a great book). Also there will be grammar practices that will be traded and graded, so having the rec. Grammar book helps alot!

Mr. Garcia cares about the future of his students a lot, and that is what I like most. I wouldn't necessarily say his class is an easy A, because he makes you work for it. Then again, what 's a little effort right? I appreciate him for making me a better writer, and bringing forth the potential I already had. The same can be done for you!

really enjoyed this class. it was fun and pretty easy if you the work. the book is a must and its really important that your read through it all ( its a really good book too) since all the test will be on it. Professor Garcia is understanding, flexible, and gives loose deadlines! He pushes Literary Darwinism/Marxism throughout the course, making you analyze how English relates to Science instead of from an Arts perspective. It was different, but not up my alley. He doesnt give clear grading criteria or feedback, but will let you re-do assignments!

I don't think I have ever gotten a grade higher than a B in an English class, Mario Garcia did everything he could in his power to make sure that history did not repeat itself. I learned about Ancient Greek rhetorical appeals which was quite fascinating despite me being closed minded at first so hats off to him.

He is passionate about his job and wants students to learn something from his class; he always tried to make sure everyone understood and wanted them to get good grades in his class. The lectures were great as well. You did not have to pay for books, as all we read were online articles. He also offers extra credit.

Easy professor, 1-3 hours of work WEEKLY for online class. Easy online quizzes/assignments, mess up online formatting at times. Grades fairly, gives constructive feedback. Lot to say about Mr Garcia. Def a great prof/person--not the most tech savvy, which is ok. Often ran into Canvas glitches which I'd email about and he'd respond a week/two later..sometimes didn't show to his own zoom. Workload was HEAVYYYY and def more hours than claimed. Great prof, tough class. Would take again tho, great knowledge learned alot.

One of the easiest classes ever. You can easily get an A in this course with little effort. He is one of the best English professors, so please take him. I am 99.9% sure he uses chat GPT to grade some assignments and sometimes misses things while grading papers, so make sure to check through his comments after you see your grade.

Truly the highest caliber class at SMC. He prepares you for the real world with practical training (ethical AI, rhetoric). It's challenging but fair: he grades objectively, so A-level work gets A-level grades. Stay on top of your work. Quizzes allow 3 attempts. Lessons are clear, module-based, and formative. If a spot is open, grab it!

Lots of assignments, but they all build off of each other. The course is well structured and easy to follow if you keep pace with the work.
