Wants students to succeed. You must do the work. Not a class you can pass without participating and turning in work.
Excellent chemistry teacher. Explains material thoroughly. Easy to understand. Not very difficult.
it is a easy professor!!! she will give you a lot of ways to get extra credits. And I learn a lot in this class, she explain everything clearly. and it is kind when you asking questions!! I strong recommend to take her chemistry class! and you won't feel chemistry is hard anymore!
I didn't think she was a great instructor, the class was easy but her lectures were boring and I got very little from them.
Nice, friendly. lectures were hard for me to understand, but many opportunities for extra credit and had handouts. If you turn in the work you get points. didnt like is that we didnt get much feedback on homework and i could have used more examples/homework problems that were beyond the basics b/c she would ask harder ones on the test.
Hard class, make sure that you study and be prepared for her tests and quizzes, dont forget to study its one of the most important things for this class. Dont take her for lab, she's to demanding, wants everything her way, and makes it to difficult. if you can handle the hard work take her, if not pick someone else.
her lectures are boring!
give out extra credit, but then their due each time there is an exam.. she won't accept late extra credit.. lecture are okay.. test are pretty difficult..her test n quiz are long.. quiz are like 30 minutes long.. n test are like wat 2 hour test...
worst teacher i've had in a long time. lectures made sense 60% of the time. completely unwilling to help students succeed. 100% dependent on owl online hw system. very regimented. got a c in this class, tarnished my 4.0. not a good teacher, but a good person. i would avoid this prof at all costs.
Only gets harder and harder. Must pay attention, attend class, put a lot of time and effort into class. I didn't have the time so i had to dropped. Teacher is there for help but expects TOO MUCH.
the lecture are too easy, dissussions are fun,lab are strict!!but I still recommend her,she try her best to help the students, she's a great teacher, and the grades are fairly.I learn a lot from her!
the lecture are too easy, dissussions are fun,lab are strict!!but I still recommend her,she try her best to help the students, she's a great teacher, and the grades are fairly.I learn a lot from her!
if you are someone who just can't deal with people frequently correcting you (mostly on small errors), don't take her. you must be the lenient one. let her have it her way in lab (she is quite picky) & you will be fine as long as you can get by in class. if you can teach yourself & deal w/ her, then take her class and get an A.
if you take her, do all extra credit(20pt)ON TIME to make things easier on you. quizzes every lec. must stay on top of material covered. although time consuming, owl (online hw)taught me most of what I needed to know for this class. I agree w/the others, she gives minimal examples which can hurt students who need more practice
my first instructor, she's the most passionate one!!!she like to help any of the student in her class, she care about the student, quiz and exam are mostly coming from the lecture notes,so just pay attention to the class, you will be fine!!!
She's a really nice teacher, i had a kidney infection towards the last weeks of class so i wasnt able to attend some of the most important classes, not to mention finish my last lab x_X it was a total bummer but she was really understanding about it. Overall Dr Agnew's a good teacher... she just want things done a certain way which can be a drag...
If you want learn chemistry then this is your professor. she is very passionate about what she teaches. and thus this is transferred to her students. she is always there to help and will do anything to help you. though she is not easy. lots of quizes, labs, and exams. she wants things her way. she is the reason i am majoring in chem now. love her!
i failed chemistry at my previous college, so obviously i had to take it again. dr. agnew was such a sweetheart and completely passionate about what she taught. i stil found the course challenging, but dr. agnew made sure to help in any way possible.
I had her for lab. She is tough as nails, and will not take any guff from anyone. She doesn't tolerate laziness or complacency. This means keep on your toes. Pay attention and do things EXACTLY HER WAY and you will do well. That said, she is compassionate and cares greatly about her students as well as the subject. Highly recommended!
Good teacher, she is though but good
dr. agnew is like awesome!!!! jokes a whole lot and laughs all the time...but she is very dedicated to the subject. had her for lab! be on her good side and you'll be fine...she has good memory and rarely forgets her students!!! awesome awesome
Lot of people in my class struggled, but the Dr. Agnew is really really good. Just do everything her way and follow directions! I really liked her. But warning: if you don't like to study, come to class, and do Mastering chem(HW). Don't take her! She wants you to do your part and she'll do hers. I hate when students just blame the teach.
Amazing professor...I was not very good at Chemistry until I took her. She is hard but is extremely helpful. She works very hard to get the material embedded in you and you come out of that classroom feeling good that you actually understand the concept. Take Dr. Agnew if you actually want to learn chemistry.
There may/may not be negative comments posted after this summer's session, but all I'll say is this. You're in college and taking chemistry. She has high expectations, but not even close to unreasonable. A great professor who cares and WILL do everything she can to guide you to be successful. You've got to meet her half way with a good attitude
If you're looking to pass CHEM 300. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you DO NOT TAKE HER. She doesn't teach the class at all! Instead, she through us into group work and we teach each other. She is a very strict prof. and is very unclear about her explanations. DON'T TAKE HER!
This teacher expects a lot from her students, do not take this class if you're looking for an easy pass. The class is hard, but passable. If you plan on taking this professor, be prepared to study 2 to 3 hours a day. Do not slack off, you will fall behind! Prof. could stand to be clearer with the work we are supposed to do. USE TEXTBOOK FOR HW ALWA
DID NOT LIKE THIS TEACHER!!! Didn't explain anything well at all! She had way to many mood swings and gets upset when you ask her questions! She teaches things that could have been easy in the most complicated way!! I would not recommend her
HORRIBLE TEACHER!! I definitely would not recommend her! I was okay in chemistry but she made everything so much harder than it needed to be. She ever give you a straight answer and can be very rude to students. She often leaves you in lab to figure things out for yourself but then gets made when you don't do it right! HATED THIS CLASS!!!!
A challenging, class. She knows what she is talking about but she is not the best at explaining things. I felt like she got better as the semester progressed though. The most important things is to always approach her with a good attitude. She is very willing to help if you meet her halfway.
Did not really care for this teacher, not the worst Iv ever had but I hated being talked to like I was a child being scolded, just for asking for clarification. It got to be very annoying. If you put in effort, you can get an A, but it will not be a pleasant or inspiring experience at all. There are far better science teachers out there.
I would not recommend taking this teacher if Chemistry isnt your strongest subject. She is really bad at explaining things. Expect to take notes outside of class because there are important things she doesnt spend much time covering. She doesnt grade homework so if you're having trouble understanding things ask. she was really rude to some students
She REQUIRED students to buy the book (Hands down!!) it is a MUST for Chem317. I think that the book is well WORTH IT!! The book is the thing that REALLY helped me pass the class. She was easy to understand. I can tell she knows what she is taking about too. TAKE HER FOR THIS CLASS if you need help in Chem. Easy A for CHEM317.
REQUIRED: Text book $100. Is a 1 unit Class. TEXT BOOK is VERY helpful. MUST ATTEND class to get great grade. VERY EASY!! Just turn in ALL assignments then you got yourself an A. Textbook helped me pass my Chemm317 and Chem300 class. (ALL THANKS TO MY BOOK!) CON: Waking up on Friday for this Class
The class is not easy, but her goal isn't to fail you. She wants to help everyone and makes herself available for questions. She is strict, but it will pay off in the end. Chem 300 isn't about just getting an A, it's about creating a foundation for chem 400
This class is not an easy class, if you are just taking chemistry just for fun pls look somewhere else. She does not really go into detail in class. You must do your home work regularly in-order to pass this class.her quizzes and exam are somewhat tricky, she want everything nest and organize. although i am glad i took this class really help.
Dr. Agnew is absolutely wonderful! I took her chem 330 lecture and lab, and found it to be a fun and interesting class. It was definitely not an easy A, but if you show up to class and put your time in it is possible. She wants her students to succeed, and is kind, funny and great at explaining things. I definitely learned my moneys worth!
Dr. Agnew is awesome. He English accent makes it a little difficult to understand but she clearly loves what she does for a living and will try to help you understand the work.
Professsor Agnew is a dedicated instructor that really cares for her student s development. She expects you to work hard for her class but it all pays off, especially if you will be taking more chemistry classes. You will get a solid foundation for chemistry from this class, guaranteed.
Although Dr. Agnew is very enthusiastic about her work, her accent made the class very difficult to keep up with! She expects for you to be present in class & takes certain things personal (so be careful) overall, her class was fun because of the students but I honestly do not remember ONE thing I learned in the course!
this class is not a easy A. You have to do everything here way or she will mark you wrong. She rushes throw chapter and doesn't explain it well. she is very passionate about chem. if you love chem, take her; if your not interested in Chem; please stay away from her. she is a wonderful person and can sometimes talk to her; depending her mood.
Unreasonable expectations, very unclear. will NOT answer your questions, don't even bother, questions will be answered with more questions, leaving you sour. her class is stressful to be in.
frustrating, she assigns all even problems from the book so you cannot check your answers. the only way to know if you're doing them right is to spend extra time doing the odds making the evens completely redundant.
Don't do it. She speeds through her Power Points in class and doesn't explain things well in lecture and lab. Everything is on D2L and it's a scavenger hunt trying to find assignments. She also doesn't answer questions well. You practically have to teach yourself all the material outside of class. I had to withdraw because of that. Don't do it.
After taking this course with another professor,Chem 300 is one of the hardest courses to teach. This professor explains things more clearly then any other professors and does not rush. It is the reason why we got behind most of the time. After taking chem 300 with someone else, I see how great this professor is.
This professor has really high expectations, if you can not handle doing the homework forget about getting a good grade in this class. She was very unclear and would change how she wanted assignments last min. I went in understanding this class would be challenging but prof. Agnew is the worse professor I have encountered. Take with caution.
Extremely solid chemistry teacher. Listen to everything she says. Quizzes are replicas of the Exams.
Only take this class if you are really ready to WORK. Professor Agnew does not make this class easy and she's incredibly fastidious. There is more homework for this class than I've had for any other class I've ever taken and the tests are pretty hard. I've never worked this hard for just a B.
I absolutely adore her. This is not an easy class and you will have to work for your grade but you will not forget what you learned. She remembers the names of ALL her students and takes every grade personal. Her classes are not for slackers!
First off R.I.P. my homies that dropped. What can you expect from a teacher that lets you decorate ur goggles? A LOT! Quizzes & HW after every chap. Go to her office hours shes really helpful and makes sure u understand. I went from a D during mid-term, to a B as my final grade. If you just want to chill and pass TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER.
Dr. Agnew has a good sense of humor, but is also straight to the point in class. You can tell she's passionate about her work and wants her students to succeed. There's a lot of homework, a quiz practically every week (which were hard!) If you do the reading, print out the notes and study them you'll be fine.
Not Recommended. Fast pace instructions/lecture. Unclear and did not find her helpful. you have been warned
She is an amazing teacher. Very discipline and expect the same from her students. She is the department director. If it was not for her explaining the lecture material again the the class would have been almost impossible to pass. Better complete the homework on time and turn-in first 15 minutes of class, if not you will be kick-out. Best choice!
This class was the worst class I've ever taken. The professor would race through the lectures. It was very hard to understand her because of her accent. She won't help you besides telling you your notes are bad and her harsh grading. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS!
she is an adorable person and is excited to sit down and help you if you need it. I just don't feel teaching is her calling. although she is VERY enthusiastic about chemistry.
I loved her! Reminds me of my mom and she has hilarious mannerisms. Quizzestests are based on notes. She really tries to make the class fun and applicable. Really helpful and she was a great teacher. I wish I could take her for another class.
A really good chem professor. Would definitely take again. Her style of notes are easy to follow, since it was just fill in the blanks on her pre-templated notes. Once you get into higher chem courses, you'll definitely miss taking her as a professor. She may seem mean during the beginning of the course, but it's only to scare the stragglers away.
Professor Agnew is great. Shes always there for you and will be more than happy to help better your grade. Her tests are insane, but she allows corrections, final is comprehensive. She does make you work for your grade, a lot of work but you learn a lot too. Homework can be overbearing and her grading style can be over whelming, over all worth it.
Dr. A is a good professor, and CHEM 330 is a pretty easy class. I really didn't put that much effort at all into and I got a B For lectures, she has you fill in the blanks on papers that she creates beforehand. There are quite a few quizzes and tests, but none are really too difficult. Not too much homework, and what she gives is generally easy.
Only like 2 or 3 tests. Expect to turn in homework for credit. The book is a must and the lab manual. Very nice teacher, if you need help ask for it and she will definitely help you. Expect about 9 quizzes through out the semester and buying ink. She has powerpoint slides on D2L for lecture and HW assignments are on there to.
TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT A SCIENCE MAJOR. Much, much easier than CHEM 300 or CHEM 305. Her exams are based off of the quizzes and HW and she allows 1/2 sheet of notes. Labs are easy and the research project isn't that bad at all. Pretty chill as long as you do your part. She's always willing to help you :)
Makes you do a lot of work but it will give you a good understanding and you wont have to study for the tests. Gives good lectures/lecture notes. If you do the work an prepare for the quizzes/tests you can get a A.
Sac City doesn't have great CHEM professors, however, she is one of the best out there! Quizzes every week which worth 20 points. She will also drooped the lowest test, which helped me go from C to a B. She gives a lot of papers. You have to print your notes before class and then file the blanks at class. Clear lectures. She is motivate good stu..
This is a memorization class, plain and simple. She doesn't know the material, she's just memorized it. She doesn't explain it, she just wants it memorized. To heck with how you learn, she specifies how you take notes, and grades them based on how she wants them, not how they help you learn. She's condescending and rude. Too much homework.
I counted 97 emails, from her, this semester. Most of which were on weekends, some were adding assignments due before next class. homework is collected randomly, meaning, if you are doing it wrong, you won't know until after the quiz. So inconsistent, so unclear. Over half the class dropped, a third left will fail. less than 30% enrolled pass.
I would strongly reccommend that you avoid taking a class with this professor if it is at all possible for you to do so. Homework is 100-150 questions a week, if youre lucky. Most of them are subdivided into 4 separate questions. She is very condescending and rude to her students. She grades very harshly, and assignments are often unclear. Dont.
She's rude and her assignments are unclear. If you email her for clarification, she'll respond with a rude tone. She doesn't care about how you learn, as long as it's done in her way. Notes must be taken on lecture slides. She doesn't go into depth about the subject and expects you to understand what you're doing. Honestly save yourself the stress.
Probably the most ridiculous instructor I've had. She expects you to do: a pre-lab, notes taken HER way, additional homework problems, finish lab work the from previous lab, manage to study for a weekly quiz, AND STILL MANAGE OTHER CLASSES. She's so far in her own world, she doesn't realize she's a bad teacher. She's arrogant and condescending.
Dr. Agnew assigns a lot of homework as you might expect for a college chem class. You can tell she puts 100% effort into teaching and gets your exams and HW back fast with good feedback, I'd take her again
No. Just no. "Clear grading criteria and as much hw expected from a college class." As someone who LIVES with actual university students, she gives an excessive amount that doesn't even build good study habits. She just teaches students to cram and not care.
Dont get me wrong, shes a nice person. However, I feel as though teaching should not be her profession. Shes confusing, disorganized, tries too hard to be a university professor when in reality shes teaching a beginning community college class. Get off your high horse and stop overcomplicating intro chem.
Dr Agnew is extremely sweet and caring, I genuinely love her as a person. Would I take her class again? Probably not. It's a lot of excessive work that I found as discouraging rather than motivating. I appreciate her willingness to help, but be weary, if you're going to take her class, you have to commit 100%. It's A LOT of work.
Dr. Agnew is certainly not for everyone. A mass amount of material is thrown at you; so, there's no room for winging it unfortunately. She's nice, but the amount of work she gives out is ruthless. This class isn't worth your time if you aren't a science major. The secret to passing her class? Go to office hours or tutoring, and be good at algebra.
Dr. Agnew is certainly not for everyone. She's clear with what she wants you to know, but it's a lot. A mass amount of material is thrown at you; so, there's no room for winging it unfortunately. The secret to passing her class? Go to her office hours or tutoring weekly, and be good at algebra. If you aren't a science major, DON'T take her class.
This class requires you to watch lecture videos outside of class and then answer questions in class. I personally thought this class was easy because I took chemistry in high school, but can easily understand why other students struggled in this class. There is a lot of extra credit offered in the first half of the semester so take advantage of it.
Dr. Agnew was a kind lady and I loved her as a person, but as a professor, she was the bane of my chemistry classes. As a student who is still struggling to find my own methods of organization and study, it was a nightmare being forced to conform to her methods. She believes her ways are the best possible, and nothing else will live up them.
She is so kind, sweet, and really cares about her students. She sets her expectation high, but thats because she cares about you. She not only wants to teach chem, but gives you so much time to develop good study habits and teaches life skills, not only science information. This is my second time taking chemistry and I was able to getA this time!!!
She's such a nice and caring prof. She does everything that she can to help and her goal is to prepare you for chem 401. Highly recommend her.
She was one of the best chem professors that I ever had. She's so caring & does everything in her power to help her students to succeed. HW and having quizzes every week might sound overwhelming and unnecessary for beginning chem class but you will appreciate it as you take your future chem classes. if take her, you won't regret it in the future.
A true queen! I recommend grinding for the A. Pay attention to everything she says, all her study methods, and actually memorize what she tells you to. Had her for Chem 300, aced every single exam in Chem 400, got an (A) as well, finessed through 401 (B+) w/ minimal effort BECAUSE SHE GIVES YOU SUCH A GREAT FOUNDATION EVERYTHING IS EASY AFTERWARDS!
She requires visible, active zoom attendance for every class. The assignments are all handwritten. She wants you to draw little pictures of lab equipment. Her lectures feel like she's talking to children. She requires you to do everything a specific way, no matter what would be more simple or work best for you.
No printer? Good luck.
DON'T TAKE ANY CLASS W/ THIS TEACHER!I don't know how-the most helpful comment- is a pos. one. This was an extremely awful class! It required copious amounts of hw, required hw that had questions and problems in it that she didn't go over and when I asked for help she'd say you just have to study more. I gave this class 42 hours of studying a week.
Agnew is a great professor for those who are willing to do a lot of work outside of class. She uses a "reverse" teaching method. Homework is where you learn and class is time for practice with the material. Decently accessible outside of class. Make sure to utilize all resources she provides, most of test material is on that.
She was an ok professor. She likes things done her way and only her way, and she's tough grader. Try looking for another professor but if she's your only option you'll be fine.
She is a sweet lady but her way or the highway. She has favorites, these people are the A-kissers, so teachers pets welcome. LOTS of notes, HW and pre-class quizzes every class. Really isnt hard, She chooses favorites, nit picks crazy amount of details, takes points off for every little thing . You need to have endurance, I didn't I got a C. GG GL
Dr. Agnew is a sweet lady, eager to help students succeed. However, I would recommend taking her in-person rather than online. Her online labs imparted no actual knowledge (granted, that's not her fault) and online tests and quizzes were open-book, which didn't really help us learn the material. For non-science majors, though, she's amazing.
Please do not take this professor. You will practically be teaching yourselves. She spends all of the in person time you have with her telling you how difficult Chem 400 will be. The study material doesnt get you ready for the quizzes. Overall just don't take her. Save yourself.
Dr. A is caring and accessible outside of class. She appreciates feedback and loves helping people. Exams don't have trick questions and are similar to homework/quizzes. She makes you take notes a certain way which can be annoying, but they are helpful. She makes everything clear, gives a lot of extra credit, and is generous with partial credit.
I had a difficult time with this professor. She is extremely condescending and made the learning environment within the lab uncomfortable. Very scrutinizing of students' abilities and was exasperated by students being "slow" to solve problems - claimed that teaching math was not her job despite its significance within the discipline of chemistry.
Doctor Alviar is a good professor, I think some expect to have everything handed to them but if you're willing to put in the work you will be ok. Her teaching can be a little rough, if you happen to make a mistake during lab she will remind you of how important it is to be careful. If you have Doctor Alviar as your professor, you'll be fine.
Took in person lab and asynch lecture, had 4x a week HW and weekly quizzes in class. Don't let that stop you, she's easily my favorite SCC prof so far. It's sizable work but for any quiz/exam/final that came I magically knew everything without studying! Lab is super chill; she's helpful, nice, caring, and really funny. Could not recommend more.
Dr. Agnew is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. She provides several practice problems that are similar to the quizzes/exams, and gives 1-2 pts extra credit every test. She does make you take notes a certain way, which is a little annoying, but the class is really easy overall, just put in work. She prepares you really well for Chem 400.
I'm sure Dr. Agnew is a great professors to others however my experience with her was extremely off-putting. Anytime I tried asking her for help with a problem, or genuinely seem confused about a topic, she'd tell me to ask someone else like huh. Anytime I showed initiative to do better she felt very condescending and would make me feel so stupid.
She is really sweet. Some people might say she difficult to work with and has favorites but that's not true. As long as you actually do the work you will be fine. Gives lots of EC opportunities, but theres also quite a bit of work. Notes have to be taken a certain way which can be annoying in the beginning but help a lot along the way.
