Think it was her first semester as a teacher. For a teacher she's pretty cool. She didn't have any tests, just had a quizzes throughout the semester which came straight from the textook and class notes. She was a fair to easy grader on the projects and presentations. Expect to copy a lot of notes during class.
The worst teacher ever, have a good looking outside, but nothing inside. The test are multiple choice, but they will take u more than 2 hours just to finish reading the questions, but at the same time, u still don't understand what the question is asking for. Half of the class time, just doing the questions from the textbook.
Class is never interesting and her tests are ridiculous. She loves to use the text book any chance she gets and makes you lug that heavy thing to class. Stay away if you have the option.
the two posts before are way too harsh! It was her first time giving out a test and she messed up but she admitted that and had a huge curve to help us out and then her 2nd test was so much easier. she is so nice and really wants to help her students do well! I am willingly taking a class w/ her again next semester bc of how awesome she is!
shes decent, young new teacher so shes still figuring things out as far as how her how difficult her tests are, but she will definitely not kill u with the tests, 1st test = hard+curve, 2nd test = easy, always available for office hours, and responses to emails quick, answers all questions in a huge LC, shes good, young and knows how it is,take her
You have to buy the book and it's very expensive. She makes you use a website to do all the hw and there are so many glitches its awful. Syllabus was 15 pages long=shes crazy. You have to come to class. Lectures were a mess, shes kinda stupid. Discussion was useless it was just another excuse for a hw assignment. Prof looks like a model, though
The people who say bad things about her, are the students that don't take the time out to learn the material. Berley is an extremely caring professor who looks out for the best for her students. Although the first test was extremely hard, she made the 2nd and Final exams too easy. I am willingly taking another class with her next semester.
Prof. Berley was a good accounting teacher. There was 3 exams, the first one was tough but then she changed it to fit the class. She could have made it more interesting but it is accounting.
She is a new professor so she is still working on her teaching skills. First exam was challenging and the entire class did bad. So, she applied a huge curve to help everyone's grade. She goes little fast in the class just because there had a lot to cover in very limited time. If you don't understand anything then go to her office hours or go to TAs
A very fair grader, she really listens to students inputs on project deadlines and quizzes. No tests, quizzes come right from the book and the notes. She's really helpful and understanding about everything. Attendance wasn't mandatory but she had in class assignments randomly that counted towards your grade. Awesome teacher, highly recommended.
6 Quizzes and 3 Group Projects. 30% of grade on Projects which is big and can hurt if you don't have a good group. Prof. Berley was confusing at times and was not specific on what to do on the group projects. Not the best.
Anti-feedback and she is teaching Managerial Accounting. Go figure!!
bratty and not a good teacher. expects the students to fail
Worst teacher ive ever had. her tests do not cover anything taught in class. hw assignments are tedious and do not help for the test
miserable. In all aspects. hard tests but not bad to look at.
Absolutely miserable professor. Completely uninteresting and unclear mandatory lectures, tests are made harder than they should be(Average is usually in the 50's). Plan to study the textbook quite a bit if you want a good grade.
Incredibly horrible, which does not help for a 300 student Managerial Accounting course. We had online HW every T/TH/Sat, which were extremely long and tedious. Test are very difficult, average grade on all test were around the 50's. You actually might get more help in the discussion classes instead of the class. All I have to say is GOOD LUCK!
Horrible teacher :( Do not take her class
Miserable. She is horrible teacher. Do not take her class
It is waste of time to take her class. Avoid it
Honestly not as bad as people make her out to be. Pressure cooker is about as easy as extra credit gets and can get you up to 10 extra points on each test. 1st test was hard, but that was more due to the concepts than her teaching. 2nd and 3rd tests were fair. Not an exceptional professor, but definitely not as bad as people make her out to be.
Probably one of the wrost professors in this school. Did all the hws and never missed a class but it didnt matter, if u fail the tests u will fail or get a d
Don't take unless you NEED to, it is definitely a harder accounting course but Berley is not nearly as bad as people are making her out to be. She not only gave a bonus 10 points on EVERY exam, she gave extra points on 1 of the 3 exams as well! You'll do fine unless accounting just isn't your thing, but thats not Berley's fault!
I liked Professor Berley, sure her class wasn't easy but if you want to get an A, work for it. Sure she's new so she's not too seasoned yet, but give it a few more semesters, I'm sure she'll improve.
worse prof ever!
Professor Berley is a confusing teacher. She does not communicate information well. She gives the students little guidance on the topics being covered. I would stay far away from Berley if possible
Mrs. Lester is a solid teacher. Most of the kids freak out, but they don't take the class seriously enough. If you put in the time you can get an A especially with the bonus points. I highly recommend professor Lester!
not a great teacher, not very helpful but good to look at
Professor Lester is a bombshell but she falls a little short when it comes to the material she is supposed to teach. The homeworks she assigns are practical only in some situations and she tends to give long complicated explanations when a simple one would cover it. My TA really saved my grade by being straight forward and answering questions.
Lester is a really nice person. Unfortunately that's where it ends, she rambles and beats around the bush for every question and answer. The three tests are wordy and you have to study on your own to learn anything. People tend to like her only because she is somewhat kind but they need to take off the blinders and see how bad of a teacher she is.
She is one of the solid professor in SUNY Albany. She requires you to be in class with a lots of materials with clicker points, which you have to prepare for the class. Her test is not easy for sure. She gave a number of tricky questions.I don't think TA is not that useful to study. You are better studying on your own.Fortunately there will be curve
Awful teacher. Makes you buy HER book which she sells for over $250. She knows the material, but she's just terrible at teaching. She gives a long problems that she even says takes at least 30 hours to do (no exaggeration) in two weeks, i guess she forgot we have other obligations too. Try to avoid if possible
By far the worst professor I've ever had and I am an A student. I never use this site but I wanted to warn others about her. Need to use visio and access to complete the project and she gives the class a 10 minute introduction on each. Is never around to answer questions and does not answer emails. Try to avoid her.
Super cool and super hot. Great assets. She really knows how to straighten out my balance sheet.
Not a terrible class. She makes you buy her book, but you don't really use it. She is not clear on what she really expects from students and gives a lot of work. She is a nice person but an awful teacher. I was .5 points away from getting an A- and I had to fight for that grade. Overall though, try to take someone else but shes okay.
Struggles to communicate concepts to a 500 seat lecture hall. Gave a horrible curve at the end of class even though the averages on each tester were below a 60.
class was okay overall but the curve was horrible.she was not lenient with the grades. recieved a 79.3 and got C+, she wouldnt give me .2 (.2!!) for a B- !
In class, she tries to teach the material but she just can't. Unfortunately, class is mandatory. People did poorly on exams and she gives like a 3 pt "curve." I recommend studying her slides and doing the clicker questions over to prepare for exams. More conceptual than computational on exams but uses some of the clicker questions on exams.
as others mentioned, horrible teacher
Nice professor but class is demanding esp. if you are taking 311 too. Required book & SUA was a waste of money. Have to do a 40-hr UNGRADED SUA project that was used in her 1st exam. Only graded on two exams & final presentation. Took material from the book but use what she went over for her exams. I recommend taking another professor if you can.
She knows what she's talking about, but doesn't know how to explain so that everyone understands. Has never replied to emails and now she's out on maternity leave. The TA's are teaching now and class is falling apart. Attendance mandatory because there's clicker questions. Exams are hard. Online assignments due before you learn anything about it.
Nice lady, was pregnant and left half way through my semester though. Communicated the info in a fun way. Slides were always stimulating with graphics and animations. Made accounting fun. Enjoyed the class.
She does not help you, avoid this teacher. Gives a long SUA problem with no help and no direction. Avoid her.
Great class. She is clear and organized. Do the work and do it well, you will get a good grade. Yes, the SUA is a lot of work but it's beneficial. (Took me 12 hrs probably). TAKE GOOD NOTES, the second test is based off them. Take group project VERY seriously & hope you have good groupmates (30hrs I spent on it, wish I had better members.)
Accounting usually comes easy to me but this was difficult. Lectures are just review classes, so make sure you read the textbook and do problems BEFORE the next class. She expects you to know the class material before you enter and just reviews, doesn't teach the topic. iClickers almost every class also.
This class requires a lot of work outside of the classroom. The professor has high expectations but she will help you if you ask. There was a modest curve at the end of the semester.
Professor Lester doesn't really teach. It's like she's reviewing the material. You have to teach the course to yourself provided you can make some sense of what she says in lectures. Thankfully the discussions are helpful. I would not recommend her.
Her lectures are so boring. I try to pay attention to what she's saying, but it's hard. Just study by yourself and go to the TAs, they're great.
Such a good prof & class. Gives a review guide before each exam so it is literally impossible not to do well unless you do not want to study/work hard. It's accounting, it isn't meant to be an easy A. Do the work and you will get an A. I know many people who did horrible but believe it or not, they did not work for extended periods of time! Odd.
Lester is not a good professor. If you are coming from Moshier's 211 class like I did, you will be left disappointed from the lack of heart for acct. that Lester has. She reads off her slides verbatim and has made mistakes that myself and others noticed. She would say one thing, but the textbook would say a completely opposite thing. Avoid Lester.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. There is not enough space to write how much I love this professor. I'm a foreign student and have seen professors from abroad and the US, and Lester is just a sweetheart. Simply put, she has all the top qualities you can expect from a professor. I would take any class with her again if I could. Lester, thank you, thank yo
Do not take Lester for 381 I would wait another semester to take 381 before I took it with her. Very tough grader doesn't teach you what you are tested on and gives you ridiculous projects that the other sections (with different professors) don't have to do. Teaching is definitely not her forte. Avoid at all costs.
She stresses that you read the chapters from the text beforehand. The actual lectures are 75% walking through practice problems and 25% reviewing of concepts. If you choose not to read you'll be a little lost. But catching up on reading is easy. Overall she is a kind person, & good professor to have. She is very knowledgeable and experienced in ACC
Same exact grading scale from 211. Only the material is a little easier if you were decent at 211. She's not very acccesabile outside of class. HW really easy, unlimited attempts and she usually cuts the assignment in half because its useless. Reading the textbook is the difrenece between getting a B or A. Put in the effort and you'll do well.
Don't let her lower rating fool you, 64% of 300 people in this class got a grade of at least a B- the only people who don't do well are the ones who don't put in the effort. She is very generous with HW extensions and her exams are very fair.
Pretty Easy, Go to class for clicker participation and study for exams. Her exam reviews are just like test. Study, do your homeowrk, and go to class and you will get a A.
Lester is a great person but not a great teacher, ive had her twice and had pretty low grades. She really does care about the students and she'll have small conversations with you. Her work and exams are a ton of work.
Lester is under-rated. If you like accounting and did well in BACC 211 than you will do well in this class. HW is easy, you can watch a video that explains step by step. She also gives extra credit assignments that help you understand the topics better. Lectures are interactive and not too dry but lets be honest it is accounting.
Professor Lester is an overall good professor. She gives you a lot of opportunities for extra credit but you need to work for the class. The tests aren't easy. The only complaint I have about Lester is she tends to overcomplicate things.
Amazing professor. These ratings do not do her justice. Easy A+ if you put in effort. She curves the rest and gives 4 bonus point extra credit opportunity for each exam.
For someone who doesnt like accounting very much, this class was very easy to comprehend. Professor Lester is extremely generous with points. There are various opportunities to earn extra points on tests. She gives review packets before exams and reviews in class. Uses Cengage and a iClicker for attendance.
I want to recommend my BACC222 professor Marisa Lester. She is my favorite professor. She is friendly and helpful, and she is well-prepared before every class. She makes Accounting easy and fun.
Super sweet professor, you will love her no doubt! Not too much workload and she makes the material super clear and interesting. Great course overall with her.
Shes terrible. Stop making CPAs become professors. They didnt go to school to teach. Shes inconsiderate with the tons of stuff she wants you to do for the project. AVOID !!!!!
This is a very hands-on course and Professor Lester is very knowledgable. I recommend taking advantage of what you learn in this class because it's different from most of the accounting courses, but it's very useful.
Extremely lenient with her attendance and homeworks points, only need 60% of total iClicker participation points for full credit, and 70% of the total homework points for full credit. Two 25 question multiple choice exams and a non-cumulative final. A super kind professor and a super easy class if you can do basic math.
Prof Lester is nice and lectures are clear. Full attendance and full hw credit are given at abt 60% of total available points (v generous) and there's extra credit. My only personal peeve is that the class is taught like a high school class. I'm over it. Be prepared to read, be willing to do work, PRACTICE concepts, and you'll pass without issue.
Very big cushion for attendance and homework. 4 tests basically determine your grade, the homeworks are very easy and then she gives a multiple choice test that is very difficult. She teaches on an overhead projector that is very hard to read and understand. Very difficult class.
Prof Lester is a nice lady, though she's not the best teacher. There's a nice cushion, so if your test grades aren't what you wanted, you can still do ok in the class.
She is a Okay professor, not really a professor more like a CPA, The exams are the toughest part, everything else has a cushion, makes the exams really hard on purpose, unless you spend loads of time studying for the exam it will be tough to get a good grade, The exams are just bad everything else about the class is okay.
Tough grader and has a lot of work to do when combine with BACC311 and BBUS300. In class, she will go over material very fast with little details but expect you to know everything even things not mention in text book or her lecture. Highly recommend to take other professor for this class if available.
During BACC222, she was a good professor but I don't recommend her for BACC381. She basically expect you to know everything before going into this class. During the group project, it's very tough as she want more than what she taught in class or in the book packet that cost about 100$.
4 Exams. I clicker questions in class but you only need 50% of all the points to get full attendance credit. I learned more by studying the slides than to listen to her in her lectures. Multiple choice exams, usually a big curve. Homework is heavy but bumps your grade up. Extra credit for every exam by doing Smartbook questions.
Professor Lester is a great professor, a lot of people don't like her teaching style but I found it very effective and I learned a lot in her class. She gives a really nice cushion for attendance and homework points, and the tests are a very fair representation of what you learn in class. You just have to keep up with the class and info to do well
Not a great professor- I had to self teach everything, her lectures werent very good IMO- but it worked out lol. She seems really nice and wants to help students, same with the TAs. Overall the course isnt that hard to me, alot of students thought it was, but if you study for the exams and do practice questions/ smartbooks youl'l get a good grade.
She was alright, not great and not too terrible, though the beginning of the semester had some technical issues. She can be kinda confusing at times, but there are many chances to go over the material and get the concepts, so if you put in the work you'll be fine. Just don't underestimate the tests and do the review problems.
Professor Lester will try to understand who you are as a student to deliver the best learning strategies that will work for you. You will learn a lot during the class. Prepare to connect with the material and see how it applies to real world situations. Try to ask the hard questions to take as much as you can from it, but most importantly have fun.
I liked her better for 381 than 222, since the classes are smaller and more intimate. She wants you to succeed, lets you bring cheat sheets for exams, and is willing to walk you through whatever might be confusing.
Honestly felt like she didnt teach. Makes tests purposefully difficult especially went they count for 17.5% of our grade and only gives SmartBooks as extra credit (.5pt each) towards exam. She will take the time to teach if you reach out tho but I wouldn't take this class unless you have to.
I like how she does reviews before class. She barely went over stuff for some chapters so you have to study, but you can get an A without opening the textbook at all. I was unlucky and the TA I had can't teach. Mackenna can teach though. She gives extra credit (Smartbook) AND curves the test if the class doesn't do well.
RUNNNNNNNNN!!!!
She doesn't curve exam scores and the bonus assignments only gives you 2-3 points. She lets us out early and canceled class a lot this semester which is great if you love that. I find her exam study guide notes super helpful. My TA Isabelle Najah is great at teaching us the content. Wish Lester was nicer with grading.. really frustrating.
DOES NOT CURVE EXAMS. Exams are purposefully hard and theyre worth A LOT. Doubt she will curve final grade like Moshier does run if you can
This chick teaches an easy class but makes it seem so hard. First of all, she uses so many abbreviations, so write them down and remember them (i didnt), second, she cancels class and ends early pretty often but i hate it because she records the lecture and posts it 2 days later and expects us to watch it- no thanks!
My personal problem is that I am simply terrible at accounting, and I dislike the subject. Although Lester made the 4 tests count for a whopping 70% of our course grade; making attendance and homework combined only worth 30%. Very bad situation for me. Oh, and doesn't curve exams. Also made me feel bad for going to office hours for HELP
Y'all giving her bad reviews just didn't want to lift a finger and that's on you, not the teacher. Seriously pretty easy class if you did the homework and Smartbooks. She dedicates a whole class to review for the exams, which were not hard. Stop scrolling on your computer in class, take out a pen and paper, and you'll barely have to study. Easy A.
Teaches very fast which makes it hard to keep up. Lenient with iclicker/hw grades because exams are very difficult. Being in the CC auditorium makes it challenging to stay focused especially because there's no space. Wouldn't recommend this class at all.
Hard class, but Professor Lester is nice and low-key inspirational
I wasn't the biggest fan of her lectures, but I felt homework assignments and exams were very fair. You need to study and put in some work to do well, but overall, I feel like I did learn a lot, and it was a really rewarding class.
Professor Lester is great. If you pay attention in lectures, or even if you don't and just study on your own, you'll do great. You only need a portion of the attendance and homework points for full credit in those sections and there's at least 3 points of extra credit for each exam. Put in some effort and you will succeed. TA classes were good too.
Lester is the Goat!!!!! Light class just as long as you put in work she expects you to actually do work
Please save yourself. The SAU packet will make you lose your mind.
Textbook necessary to do the homework, but homeworks and exams were easy. Her lecture's weren't the best, but got the job done. Discussion section actually was very beneficial to this course so I recommend going every week. You'll need iClicker but that's really it. Just pay attention in class and discussion and you'll do fine.
My favorite accounting class yet, a challenging course with an individual project and a final group presentation, but the experience was amazing. You'll learn many new things and meet a ton of new people. I will say in the beginning, I hated this course but as the semester went on, I looked forward to going. Prof Lester is goated
Good professor, SUA packet was brutal. Lester is a good lecturer and I finished the semester understanding and taking away from the content. Communicate with this professor, she will not make special exceptions for most people but is often understanding and is great for offering solutions.
Prof Lester is the best. She's super helpful with the SUA, just ask questions. Allows cheat sheets and the quizzes are exactly what she talks about in class. Also a super lenient grader on the quizzes. She is really nice and encourages networking with classmates. Also talks about job opportunities after college which was cool.
Professor Lester is a G, she's very blunt I love her as a professor, the only thing thats tedious about 381 is she expects alot and its hard given 311 and BBUS, but shes super helpful regardless and does want you to succeed. I will miss having her as a professor.
