She's demanding but fair.
It is hard, but she is willing to work with you! She is awesome.
awesome teacher, great at this stuff, very understanding and gives students the right to their own opinion
very good teacher, those who say she was hard or unfair doesn't realize they are in college
The best ever, extremly heplful. She will prepare you for every test that she gives, and on top of that lots of extra credit.
She is a very demanding teacher. Developmental psy with her is a very hard class unless you read very well. Even then, the quizes on webCT are the hardest quizes ive ever taken.
I really enjoy coming to her class. I'm in the honors section of General Psych, and it doesn't even feel like it. It's a lot more interation b/w the other classmates, and it's just an awesome course to take because of her. =)
I am taking her class online it is very hard. She is unclear and demends to much, her quizes are hard, even if you study and study and study. She also makes you do a group project online You will need a psyc. after this class!
This teacher is awsome !!! Her teaching style is very effective and entertaining. She really makes you think about the course material instaed of just memorizing it.
I though this teacher was great. Her test were hard but you just needed to study. I thought she gave alot of extra credit
Good teacher. Took it on line. She gives you a chance to prepare for the tests nicely. It was a little hard because of a lot of writting, but if you make an A on a class, you don't have to take Final Exam. What can be better than that?
You guys are right, she is tough, but don't call her unfair. She's anything but that. If you do your best, you'll do fine. Oh, and yeah, the group projects are a pain, but if you work hard you'll get a good grade, even if the final product flunks.
I've had Marisa for both general psych and honors dev. psych, and I can honestly say she is the best teacher I have had in college. Yes, there is a lot of writing and such, but it only helps you to understand the concepts better.
I thought she was an awful teacher, I took her class online during the spring 2004 semester and she had tests and projects due during spring break. Many times when I would ask her for help I felt like I had to beg before I received it.
tests for psych honors were take home, what a breeze. keeps class light and fun.
Bad teacher! I took her class online, the tests were open book and they were extremely hard she grades you more on grammar than what you have learned in the course. Anyone who takes this course you are in my thoughts and prayers!
SHE IS HARD
I took this online and ended up withdrawing from it. The test are extremely hard and the chapters are very long and there is just a lot of information to cosume. If your a visual and study guide type person this class is not one to take online. I never met the her so I cant say she is mean or not.
She is a great teacher. She will push you for your very best, so don't take her if your looking for an easy ride. She is very fair and cares.
THE ABSOLUTE WORST INSTRUCTOR IVE HAD. VERY DIFFICULT AND UNCLEAR WITH ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS. FAILED HER CLASS BUT MADE A B+ AFTER TAKING IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE. MM WAS VERY UNFAIR AND WENT CRAZY WITH WORKLOAD.
I took this class during Spring A. There was a lot of work and you should definitely read the chapters and do the essay questions in word before the tests. Have your book right by you when taking the test (if taken online, it is very helpful. Easy A if you keep up!
great teacher. the end project was great- all the assignments from before were pieces of it, and it came together very quickly, and relatively without stress.
I took the online class. Very cool. No paper for this class, but you write essays for the tests. She's wonderful!
I loved her class. She was the one that made me look into Psychology for a major. Now I am at UF. She is a wonderful teacher and has a very interesting honors general psychology class. We went on field trips and the tests were take home. I love her!
I am currently taking this class and it is a breeze! I am in the honors intro class and loving it! Awesome teacher!
What a cold hearted person, don't take this class until you already know everything and don't mind getting cold hearted responses to any questions about the course. I loved the subject but couldn't get over how cold she was.
The six-week flexterm online went really fast. There was a A LOT of writing. She gave class advice before the class began about the pace, WEBCT experience, the amount of writing so I knew what to expect. She posted the final grades: 11 A's, 3 B's, 4 C's, 1 D, 2 F's so her class was easy if you worked hard and stayed on schedule.
The six week flexterm class online was very fast paced and alot of reading and writing. She made all expectations clear and warned the students about the workload. Preparing for her test is alot of work because of the essays. I think she is a really good teacher and was always available to help students.
A great teacher. Very helpful and always available. I took this class online over the summer and received an A. You have essays on the exams and final but she will help with any questions you have. Highly recommend her.
This was a great class. It was very intense because it was only six weeks. She made everything available and easy to move through the class. She also was always available and answered all questions I had. There were essays for the test but she gives them in advance to give you enough time to work on them. Great teacher!!
Hard Class. She isn't very helpful when you email her for help. She makes her students feel dumb and isn't very considerate. I failed the exams because she wouldn't even give partial credit for essay responses. Avoid this teacher if possible.
It is a bit fast paced (the half-semester course) but if you keep up with the reading and do the exam essays before hand you will be fine. It also requires a lot of writing but it helps you learn the material. She has strict writing requirements but it makes you pay more attention to your work. Group project can be easy if all members participate.
She's a fair grader, is very generous with extra credit, and the exams were online and open-book. The final exam was also exempt for those with an A in the class. The only challenge was the group project, which seemed a bit pointless. Other than that, keep up with the textbook reading, be attentive during lecture, and an A is almost guaranteed.
Fair, very informed and high energy. Oddly enough she is quite enamored of her own wardrobe, but I've yet to meet a psych professors without an issue or two.
YOU MUST TAKE HER!!!!!
The 6 week online class is not for the timid! If you keep up with the readings and the labs (computer simulations are fun), you can't mess up. Don't try the "didn't know about the deadline" excuse; it won't fly.
She's great! Definitely a good teacher to have.
An enormous amount of work. It is ridiculous, especially for an online class. DO NOT recommend the online class. Perhaps the traditional is better. Plus, she is very unhelpful. You're better off answering your own questions, because all she does is reiterate them in her responses.
The 6 week online course is crazy-fast! You cover 3 chapters every week so you have to stay proactive or you will not pass. She even sent us an e-mail before the class started just to make sure we were ready to go on Day One. Take the full-semester online class if you aren't a fast reader.
The 6 wk Ol class is brutal but worth it if you can keep up. 3 chpt, 1 lab, 1 test and 1 post per week. Do the extra credit essays. They help you study/learn the material. Tests are mc and you can take them 2X, but don't be deceived the tests are detailed. Prof is fair and chance for makeups at the end. "A" expempts you from the Final.
do NOT take her online class!!! she is extremely unfair when it comes to grading and she is extremely unhelpful answering questions. DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS!!!
Professor made this 6-week online course extremely doable. The course was setup fairly with 3 chapters each unit, 4 units, and an exemption from the final exam with an A after 4 units. Do the reading and the Labs/posts are not a problem at all. It's a good survey of Psychology.
amazing teacher. i have had the best time in this class. she makes the learning experience worth it. Her tests are a little hard but she lets you take them home and use your book. AMAZING teacher.
Become best friends with your textbook for this class. If you read youll do find but if you dont chances are you wont because class lectures dont really have much to do with the material on the test. She gives extra credit on exams which are extremely helpful. Dr. Mcleod is a really nice lady and she wants you to succeed, BUT READ!
I had the hybrif class. This class is DIFFICULT! Must Read your textbook. Prof McLeod is great and really wants her students to do well, the test are difficult, yet she gives lots of extra credit. Case studies take alot of time, the video questions take forever also. Must dedicate alot of time for this class. An a is attainable, yet must work hard.
I agree, love your textbook. You MUST read every chapter you cover in class to do well on the tests. No, don't just read them, memorize them! I truly learned so much from this class. I LOVED the group presentation at the end. Read Love at Goon Park! Marisa really wants her students to learn and she does a fantastic job ensuring they do so.
Although this class isn't difficult, it is exceedingly time-consuming. I took the "mini-mester" course with DEP 2004. You will FAIL without buying the books. Read the chapters. Also, redo your case studies if you didn't get 100%, and do ALL the offered extra credit. I spend probably 15 hours a week, but earned a 102% average. Doable, but tedious.
Great Prof! Take some notes in class and read the ch's and you will do fine. Very fair teacher! Gives opportunity to do well in this class, has great information and real experience outside of teaching. Get an A in the class and don't have to take the final! Awesome teacher!
Tough class...lots of writing but you do improve your skills by the end of the class. Would not recommend if you haven't taken ENC1102 yet. Overall, she expects the best from you and herself and works hard with the class so everyone can succeed. Attendance not mandatory but being there consistently almost guarantees a "C".
hated this teacher asked repeatedly for help or an extra assinment and she would not give me one she did not teach just gave us the chapters to read and that was it very very hard grader i think the course average is like 50% and doesn't belive in grading curves
IF YOU CAN GET OUT NOW HORRIBLE TEACHER DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!!! trust me bad idea
Yep, this class is not for the those who cannot read quickly or handle independent work. I asked her for help and even sent in drafts of my work and she met me several times on campus and sent back comments so I could do well. Students who earn an "A" are exempt from the final...hard work IS rewarded.
Big mistake to take this class in a flexterm if you can't write. She expects college-level writing and allows 6 errors before she gives you a "0". Deadlines are strict but the exams aren't too bad. There's a total of 600 points with 26 points extra for discussion and 30 points extra for lab. I got a B+ but had to invest at LEAST 8 hours a week!
Teacher tough but helpful, responds within the same day most times. Assignments relevant but don't slack on the writing or you fail the assignment. She actually reads stuff you send in. Met her a couple of times in the office and she was friendly and helped me with my labs and paper to get my grade up.
Dr. McLeod is a pleasure to have for a teacher. She is funny, makes the class enjoyable and lectures wonderfully.
loved this professor, fun and easy going, hard grader when it comes to her essays and case studied, but is very helpful and responds to emails quickly, always there to help and make you understand, i didnt use my textbook much, but it is helpful.. good class to take :)
Dr. Mcleod is a wonderful teacher. She is very helpful and will answer any questions you may have quickly.
WONDERFUL professor! Her lectures are always enjoyable! She's a strict but fair grader when it comes to case studies and essays, but it will improve your writing skills so much. If you send her a rough draft of your stuff before it's due, she will tell you what to fix. Use textbook support link to study for exams, it helps a lot! Highly recommend!
She is an amazing teacher! I thought she was very easy and clear. She even does surveys after each test to try to help you improve! I took her hybrid class, so class was just twice a week. Multiple choice tests were online and a little tricky, but scoring around a B wont kill your grade. She's very generous with extra credit and very flexible
She is an amazing teacher! If you have an A before the final you don't have to end up taking it, which is cummulative. She helps you whenever you need her to and gives a lot of extra credit to boost you grade. She makes the class really interesting and easy!
Great teacher. Teacher responded to every email ...quickly. Could not ask for a better online class. There is alot of writing and she is meticulous about grammar and spelling but it's a small price to pay to not have to take the final. Gotta have the textbook! Don't take it without it.
Prof. McLeod is great. She is strict about grammar but she responds to emails quickly and will review essays before you submit them to help bring your grade up. You MUST watch the videos and read the book or you will fail this class. Also provides exemption from cumulative final if you have an A beforehand! Take her class!
Great online class. She provides you with interesting videos. There are weekly essay and multiple choice exams. You need the textbook to do well on these exams. She is great in replying back to emails. She provides a good amount of extra credit and will exempt you from the final if you have an A. It was a good experience and would take her again!
Great Teacher! The class is easy if you read the chapters assigned, watch the videos and do your homework. The teacher gives a lot of extra credit and if you make an A in the class prior to the exam, you will be exempt from having to take the exam. This class is challenging but if you do your work and reading assignments, you will do well.
Mrs.McLeod is a great teacher. She really makes the notes interesting and isn't boring at all. The online tests are pretty hard, but if you attend class and do your group project you'll most likely get a C+ or B
What she discusses in class is not what's on the tests. Read every chapter! Don't bother making notes. Just read! The project she assigned us was garbage. She's quirky, but quirks don't make up for her inability to teach the material. DO NOT recommend!
Lots of work in this class; grade is based on many different elements so tests won't make or break you. Some tests questions were from lecture and case studies were challenging. Group project was fair and slackers aren't rewarded. I got an "A" but had to work for it.
She is a very good teacher and I found this class to be very interesting. You will be writing a lot in this class (between the essays for the tests and the case study), it will help you understand the concepts better. Likes to incorporate a lot of videos into her teaching, but they are all interesting and worth watching.
This was listed as a critical thinking/writing class and we were certainly required to do LOTS of it. I received an update each unit with my current average which is something most online instructors don't do. She is a tough instructor; I think her expectations were higher than most of the class could handle.
She assigns A LOT of extra BORING reading and can run up to 20 pages newspaper style(so you have to go to the bottom of the page then back up).If you are taking her online don't take her with any other classes. It is definitely not an easy A.You will not have time for family or friends. He father died and she was back on Monday.
There's plenty of opportunity for extra credit. You'd have to read the textbook to make the notes, but those notes can be used for the exam. Reading the textbook was really easy, not many confusing sentences.
HARD! Had to read everything in the book. Tests are hard and are not in the book. I took her online and she made it stressful. I was always in her office for clarity. Ugh!
Super hard class to take online. 3 chapters a week @ 40 pages long each, with a 50 question homework and 5 question quiz for each chapter, and 30 question exam every week. Definitely a LOT of work. Hours and hours of study time is required. She's nice, but the work is hard. Hard to get an A.
she is too full of her self. all she talks about is herself her fortune 500 jobs(which i think the furthest she got was to an interviews) and her high status at SF. i wouldnt mind all that if she actually taught but all u do is useless project. she also predicts your grade on ur first day of class using her so called pschology skills
This was really a writing class about Social Psychology so be prepared to write and use the necessary formatting. If you have had other classes with APA writing, you'll do fine.
Best teacher Iv'e had at SF yet. So many extra credit opportunities your grade can be as high as 110%. I have a 95%. Open note test and quizzes. Minimal study time required. Did most the homework/labs sitting in class before she collected it. Very kind, caring woman. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
LOVED Dr. Mcleod, she was so helpful and really wants her students to do well. Open note tests, labs and quizzes, just make sure your familiar with the material. She keeps her class lively and has a fun personality. She is always offering extra credit and any time you need help her door is always open. Awesome professor! Highly recommend!
The only downside is a big group project but you get that in most psych classes, otherwise she gives great notes with funny stories, extra credit, use of notes and book on test, and also she has a high status at Santa Fe so get her on your team :)(PS. I missed the 1st exam and still got an A)
We had a research paper due at the end of the semester, i turned mine in and she just threw it back at me and told me to fix it but she failed to mention what i needed to fix, so i didnt find her to be very helpful. Also i was a disabled student and i worked hard and got A's and B's on tests but i got c's on the labs so she gave me a C, so not fair
Marisa McLeod is an ok teacher. She comes across as a super nice lady, but deep down she's not at all. She is not understanding in many situations. She doesn't take anything late, even if there is a death in your family, or something terrible happens. I know from experience. If you can find a different professor, I recommend that you do.
She is fair with everyone so she won't make exceptions to class policy. We took votes about how best to proceed after most exams and she made adjustments based on our votes. Never had an instructor actually include us in the exam format. Besides everyone was open book!
Most classwork is done through connect. 3 chapters every 2 weeks with a quiz that is timed with random questions from the textbook so you HAVE to read it. Watch the videos on the connect she will ask questions on the exam. exam is open note, but essay questions so very long. doesn't take late work or any excuses even if it is an emergency goodluck
She was very clear on all instructions. Not many opportunities for extra credit, but there was one major projectchapter for extra credit (which really helped me!) I took the class in half a semester and online, so I pretty much had to do a chapter a day to get everything done before the due date. Highly recommend her as a teacher!
What a joke of a teacher. If you want to learn do not use her. I passed with an A and did not learn a thing all year. She clearly does not know how to teach.
Professor McLeod is a wonderful teacher. All her tests were open book and open note. Just do the assignments and put in an effort and you'll get an A. Also, if you have an A by the time the final arrives you might be exempt!
Avoid this professor. She took forever to respond to my emails and sometimes she didnt even reply. 4 units throughout the semester with 3 quizzes, a worksheet, assignment, and responding to group members about their paper. quizzes were really hard- 40 minutes, 15 questions, and a short response. awful professor and class. so stressful
This is the WORST professor and person I have ever had the displeasure of working with. She's a tough grader and grades based on things that she doesn't explain in the assignment directions. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The class really isn't that difficult, but she makes it more difficult than need be. Horrible person and even worse professor. I HATE HER
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! SHE IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!
She is one of the worst professors I have ever had. This class is supposed to be a easy GELO class, yet she makes it impossible to pass. All of her assignments have the most vague instructions. I have e-mailed her multiple time with questions, but she always replies with a vague answer. Her quizzes are so hard, I got F's in almost all of them.
Took this course online and while there is a lot of work, I would take it again. She is a tough grader, but fair. Highly recommend!
I see lots of really negative ratings but I found the format really easy to follow. Extra credit solves a few problems when the grading gets tough but this is a second year class with three pre-req's!
Beware! Don't take her! My friend is taking the same course as me with another SOP2002 professor and is loving the class while I'm hating mine. Mcleod has her own standards for papers that are outside the SFC psychology department requirements. She is very vague and gives no clear-cut information on what you're doing wrong. Tough grader
This was a writing intensive class and involved research, lots of it. Several worksheets throughout the semester help you build a paper to submit at the end of the term. I certainly learned a lot about social psychology AND APA formatting.
Several worksheets that lead to your final paper with lots of research. Very particular about APA formatting. She is vague about her directions, but once I got it I did well on papers. Gives good feedback on papers. Quizzes are simple with one essay question. Extra credit are papers, but help a lot.
This class really felt like an upper division course. Be prepared to write a lot! You need to actually CITE your textbook AND your articles so take lots of notes. Grading is fair and lots of chances to improve during the semester.
The class felt like an upperclassmen class. Provides lots of worksheets to help you build your final GELO paper. She's super strict on APA format so beware. Her assignments are hard to understand so you usually have to ask her. The GELO project topic is really hard. It took most of my classmates a long time to come up with a subtopic.
Prof McLeod is not clear on instructions for assignments and is EXTREMELY strict APA. It felt like a much higher level class. The GELO project was extremely confusing and no clear directions. Not a good experience overall.
I took her for an online class and it's one of the worst classes I've ever taken. She doesn't explain the work very well so I was already confused on what to do, and then when she grades the paper she'll make extremely rude comments but won't tell you what you did incorrectly, so basically you can't even progress in the class. terrible professor
Goes by her own specific APA format Won't give credit if you don't name files her specific way. Felt more like a class on APA format than Social Behavior Takes the class way too seriously. Seems to be just an arrogant, resentful professor that justifies having a PhD by putting students through hell for a class that is only taken to meet requirement
The class is listed in the Gen Ed requirements as a writing/inquiry/research course so the emphasis on writing and critical thinking is very high. There was ample extra credit and feedback for each writing assignment as well as two sample papers. Even though it was an online course, she met students at the library a couple of times a week.
Easy to talk with and responds quickly to questions. I didn't get a great grade but it was due more to my missing assignments. This was a writing class and I waited too long to get started. Based on the grade distribution, a third of students earned an "a". Hope this helps.
General Psychology was a breeze! The other ratings I saw that were so negative were for a writing class heavy on APA so I was worried at first. Some emphasis on college-level writing but grading is based more on critical thinking and application of the textbook which was FREE and easy to access.
Professor Mcleod has been amazing! She is there whenever needed, she gives good assignments that you can really enjoy and get into! She is a very awesome professor who gives you clear details and when she grades papers she tells you exactly where you went wrong and how you can fix it!
I took this class twenty years ago and I still remember it as my best undergraduate experience. Even though I didn't go into psych, or even the sciences, she definitely left a mark (lots of them!).
