Professor Sayago is funny, but also tough. She really makes learning fun, and knows what she's talking about. Her high voice takes some getting used to.
Mrs. Sayago is an excellent teacher! She knows a lot about art, and I learned a lot in her class!
If you have no artistic ability, i would not recommend Mrs. Sayago. When i informed here that i was struggling, she always made me feel like i should be able to do it, in a condescending way. I am now afraid to take another art class.
Basically had to teach myself by reading the book.Very unorganized, ill-prepared and scattered.Nice lady but boring lectures that basically were read straight from the book. Some tests were taken from a different edition of book therefore we didn't know the answers.
Prof. Sayago is a great teacher. I have total confidence in her knowledge or art (which is alot). She's pretty strict on attendence, and reading is a MUST, but it's a great class and teacher.
Prof. Sayago is such an interesting person and funny. She expects a lot from her students; she gives you the tools and you have to work with them. She's definitely not easy, but the class was fun and the atmosphere laid back and supportive. I recommend her if you want to really learn.
Sayago's classes are a lot of fun. She helps you when you need it, her lectures are interesting, and she is a fun and funny person. I had a great time in her class and recomend her to everyone.
Prof.Sayago is a BAD TEACHER! I hated drawing when I was in her class, and was afraid of any other drawing clases after hers. I am now in a class at ARC and I have learned that I can actually draw. I cried in her class. She teaches rules not actual styles. If you are intimidated by art, do not take
Marisa is AWESOME!!!!!! She is my favorite teacher and I recommend her to everyone! She is very helpful, funny, encouraging and she cares about her students. I will be sad when she is no longer my teacher! Thanx Marisa!!!! :-)
marissa is THE BOMB
Professor Sayago is overall plain rude. Not one person in my class was allowed to have an opinion. She makes rude comments that are directed towards any student, and she plays favorites. Her tests are ridiculous it is way too much information that nobody could remember. Her lectures don't help. She does not make things clear. Don't take class.
i agree that she can be rude, and she seems to look down on people who dont have any talent. if you have talent and can work on your own she will let you do what you want which is nice but otherwise i noticed she would pretty much tell everyone what they had to do an how they had to do it. she generaly has nothing nice to say about anyones art work
Marisa can be helpful at times, during tests she would come and say, are you sure that's the answer. But I've heard her make fun of student's papers in the middle of class while that student was there listening. A teacher shouldn't act like that. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you already know Art History.
she doesn't grade fairly
This class is hard as hell! I have to admit, I didn't put as much effort as I should have. Still ended up with a B, though (despite my utter lack of artistic talent). Marisa is definitely not for the meek, you better have thick skin. If you show effort and interest, she'll be cool with you.
i agree that she can be rude and she seems to look down on people who dont have any talent. if you have talent and can work on your own she will let you do what you want which is nice but otherwise i noticed she would pretty much tell everyone what they had to do an how they had to do it. she generaly has nothing nice to say about anyones art work
I am a pretty good artist, i feel i didnt pretty good work and I almost got a B. She gave instruction maybe 3 days out of the entire semester, most classes she talked the whole time with a select few students in spanish. I'd only recommend it for very independent artist who aren't so much looking for instruction as space to work.
Marisa is a awesome teacher. Will be definently taking more classes with her in the future!
She is a great teacher. If you need someone to hold your hand during class, this class is not for you. She is very nice and super funny. Just show up, do your work and you will get a good grade.
Prof. Sayago is GREAT! She knows her stuff and very supportive of thinking outside the box. She seems to enjoy the more independent student and encourages everyone in the class to go beyond the limit. I really enjoy her teaching style: down to earth, personable, and funny.
Prof. Sayago is amazing and awesome. She makes you work, but it's totally worth it! I learned so much.
Amazing prof. I learned so much, but you need to do your work. She's flexible as long as you're willing to do what is expected. I never knew how complex drawing is. She has opened my eyes and makes appreciate art in general.
Amazing prof. Loved her style and humor. I learned a lot from this instructor. I highly recommend!
I wish I had read the comments on this teacher prior to registering for her course. Her orientation day was discouraging, condescending and offensive. She lacks judgment in using street language and cussing in order to make herself seem hip. I found her grading system arbitrary/based on whether or not she likes your project and research topic.
I LOVE this prof. She's way cool and knows her stuff. I you really want to learn and are motivated then take her!
Marisa is a great art teacher. She really knows her stuff and she is very approachable. I learned how to draw from her and I highly recommend that you take her class!
She's a great teacher - very funny and laid back. She teaches the material in a clear and interesting way, and has a lot of energy to boot. She does expect you to work and actually improve, so DO NOT take this class if you just expect to use it as filler and not learn anything. I've never seen her ridicule a student in class. Great teacher!
She's an amazing Instructor and a cool person. If you care/try you'll learn a lot, if you don't you won't. If you're rude to her she isn't afraid to be rude back. It's all in what you put out, so if you try, you get the grade and a cool instructor, if you don't you get a poor grade and won't like her. Definitely one of my favorite professors ever!!
Sayago is really funny! I enjoyed her class a lot. As for teaching though..i'm not sure. She never walked around the class while we were working on art, so the students never got very much help. Sometimes she would just leave the classroom or have side conversations with people. But I still enjoyed her class. Don't buy the book! Never used it!
Wonderful/witty teacher - Sayago is extremely likeable! I love her! Needs to cut the side talk with class favorites though, which often leaves her unavailable to help those in need during class. Got an A and never opened the book, so you can safely save your money there - never get asked or tested on ANYTHING in it. Provides Study Guide for "final"
I'm not an artsy person- can't draw worth a darn.. and Sayago was WONDERFUL. If you're deciding which art professor to take, Sayago is your best bet. You won't regret it! She's down to Earth, helpful, and so funny. Choose her - no question about it!
Had her for figure drawing. On occasion class got boring, but Marisa is a very funny person if you take the time to talk to her. She also knows what she's doing, so if you're an art major she's a MUST. She's very knowledgeable. If you're good at art OR a hard worker you'll get an A.
Where do I start with marisa sayago. She is completely into herself as a person. She acts like she knows everything about art yet her work is awful. Im not even sure how someone gets a masters degree with the low quality of work she puts out. I took the liberty of looking her work up after class and its attrocious. How is she even teaching?Dear god
This woman is train wreck. One of my friends looked up her art after class and showed me! LOL how does anyone think they can teach someone that litteraly cant even get proportions let alone feature placement right on the body and face! No wonder she sticks to abstract art, what a mockery to real artists. Goes to show college degrees dont mean skill
Marisa Sayago is GREAT! She not only is a good teacher, but an awesome artist! I looked up her work too and find her artwork to be incredibly well done. She can be strict and the class somewhat regimented, but I did learn how to draw. I recommend her if want to learn, but if you just want to an easy class for easy A she's not for you.
I think the people rating her poorly are just LAZY - we've ALL seen those types of students. I'm not a "gifted" artist and hence was scared to death to take art, but I'm so glad I ended up with her. She's absolutely great. She makes you smile and laugh, and enjoy the work along the way. Take a chance with her and you'll see. :) Please, TRUST me!
Hands down, the best art professor in the school. Look no further. - No matter what level you're at, you'll love her and enjoy the class. She's a must to take. A must!
I adore Marisa and I can promise you that any of the people rating her badly are people she made cry. She's a brutal critic and it's required in art. Improvement is made in pointing out the flaws. She knows the subject well and is incredibly fun and leaves you enough freedom to do pretty much whatever you like in the media.
Marisa Sayago is a very enjoyable teacher. I am not particularly gifted at art either, but I have found the class moderately easy if you stay diligent in finishing assignments. She is laid-back, plays Pandora in class, and randomly bursts into a Spanish accent. She is fun, and the class is helpful. Sayago is definitely FLC's #1 art teacher.
Marisa shows favoritism. It's easy for you to pass the class if she likes you, but if she doesn't like you, you actually have to work for your grade, which isn't the bad thing, but if you're one of her "special" students you can come & go as you please and do whatever you want and pass.
One word: AWESOME!!!! Both as instructor and artist!
It is clear to me that Sayago hates teaching. She is always in the front of the room playing on the computer and on the rare occasion that she does walk around the room she either says nothing about your art or she says "slow down" same for grading homework. She puts a number on your work and gives no constructive comments. Horrible teacher.
Marisa is a great art teacher. She is passionate about what she does, and works hard at it. She is extremely helpful if you ask her for guidance, and will help you grow in many ways as an artist. Her classes are highly recommended.
I've taken her for 3-d design, beginning clay sculpture, and sculpture. Her classes were basically just studio time for me. Pretty easy. She doesn't take roll much- you can leave early. do your assignments and you're fine. She doesn't give any feedback and often leaves during class, but is very helpful if you ask for it.
Overall great teacher! She's good at what she does and human too. Very approachable. I highly recommend her. I've taken a lot of art classes at FLC, she is by far the BEST!
Loved the painting class! Prof. Sayago knows her stuff and the delivery is interesting and fun. Highly recommed her. I've taken other of classes, all high quality. Great instructor and artist!
Marisa is a fantastic professor as well as an amazing artist. She knows art, and that's that. I have had her for a number of classes, now.. and have found her to be extremely helpful when help is asked for or needed. She will make the effort to help you progress if you make the effort to ask. She is by far the most outstanding art prof. at FLC. :)
She very rude to you if your not her favorite, she is on facebook all the time. she makes fun of kids in the class and unhelpful, yell at you if you need help. worst teacher ever do NOT take her class!
Great professor! I learned so much from her. Her classes are fun and laid back; you do have to work and you need to ask for help if you need it, otherwise you won't get it. In sum AWESOME teacher, but you'll get out what you put in.
Really good teacher. I liked her lectures. But you could really tell who her favorites were. She would actually DO their projects for them, while the rest of us were just supposed to "fix it." She's very opinionated about Kinkade (whom I personally REALLY like), but she seems to really know her stuff. She's REALLY accommodating, which was awesome.
If you hate still life, STAY AWAY! I'm not an artist so it got dull sometimes but she really knows her stuff. Excellent artist herself too. Super nice and laid back. Make sure you show up so you can have full portfolios of classwork. She likes to joke and just have a relaxed classroom atmosphere which is nice. I'm not an artist but I managed fine.
I LOVED art until this class. Oh my. I'm sorry but any art class that doesn't require a pre-requisite should not be this hard and un enjoyable. She critiqued everything, and graded you on how well your drawings were (which is not how a beginning art class shouldbe!) She was not helpful and I was extremely discouraged by her to continue art.
Marisa is the BEST. She is very helpful as long as u ask for help, and show interest in her class. I learned to love art thanks to her! She's also a phenomenal artist.
This teacher is great! I am learning so much. She is laid back, but expects students to do the work. She is helpful when you need it. She's very personable and easy to follow; one of the best at FLC. Thumbs up!
Very confusing and not always clear on due dates. Doesn't use D2L well for alerting about due dates correctly. Helpful in answering questions if you approach her directly. Lax in what goes on in class, often. Fun teacher but not very structured.
Marisa is rad. Amazing artist and influence. If you dont like her class it's because you didnt try. If you don't have a general interest in art don't complain how how she "ruined" your "love" for the subject. She really encourages students to work hard and think outside the box.
Amazing professor(and artist!)-a great rapport with students-always finds a way to make learning a concept fun interesting. So appreciate that she takes the time to help when needed (but yet leaves room for the student to create truly original works). I have learned so much about various types of art in her classes. Highly Recommend!
Class consists of homework drawings and in class drawings. She gives a study guide to the final with the answers. Fairly helpful although you can definitely tell she favors her star students versus the struggling ones who actually need more feedback. Show up and do your artwork and you should easily pass.
Marisa is cool. It was very easy to pass her class. She lectures sometimes but most of class is spent drawing still-lifes. She wants you to draw exactly what you see and gives you the skills to do so. Homework was just 10 sketchbook assignments and towards the end of the semester it wasn't assigned anymore. One test and she gives you all the answer
Great teacher! And very helpful! She has an awesome personality! Enjoyed her class.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Marisa is my favorite professor so far at Los Rios. She is so nice and fun, never condescends, and listens to all your ideas and questions.
Professor Sayago is a good instructor and a great artist. You will have progress by the end of class. Homeworks are once a week. lots of chances for extra credit. She will give you helpful feedback on your homework. She will also give you feedback on your class work if you ask her. I was totally happy with this class.
This clay sculpture class was easy to pass, so no complaints there. I do like that the classroom atmosphere is very laid-back. My only issue was when I wanted to ask Prof. Sayago questions for clarification, since she would often answer in a way that was a bit condescending as if she was giving a painfully obvious answer to a child.
Great professor! I learned so much and really can appreciate how hard clay is. Loved her and the class ambience, easy-going, supportive, and fun. Will definitely take again!
Loved her class! Love her! she is a great teacher and a lot of fun to talk to!
Do not expect to get an A in this class right off the bat. She is very critical, and is not afraid to point out any flaws in your artwork. She knows what she is teaching, and will not hesitate to help. She has a maternal vibe when she interacts with her students in casual conversations. If you're looking for an easy A, this class isn't for you.
I had a lot of fun in this class, mostly at the beginning. I learned a lot from Professor Sayago, definitely things I will remember for a long time. She was very funny, and would let you listen to music in class. Only complaint is: when you were doing something wrong she could be pretty mean and condescending about it. Overall, good class.
I loved this class, Sayago helped me realize how much I really love art. I liked how the class was only graded by about 5 or 6 projects using different techniques. If you're not confident in one of the techniques or projects just make up for it by going above and beyond on your other projects. Aside from the art there is a research paper & a final.
Marisa is charismatic and funny, and a really enjoyable presence. Her feedback is more critical than helpful, but she is also very supportive. The classroom environment is very casual and entertaining. The drawing of live models (yes, they're nude) can a little boring at times because poses get repetitive, and it's what we do every class.
This class was really easy if you just do the homework and in class work. She can tell whether you put in a lot of effort into your drawings. Just take the time to do the homework and class work well and you should be getting an A.
She is nice and does care about how you do in the class. She offers many extra credit opportunities and you have homework almost every weekend. She does grade a little tough on the homework so try you best. You are drawing everyday, so if you like drawing, I would definitely recommend this class.
If you're taking her for ART 300, don't. She makes art SO hard and NOT fun. Not just an easy A art class
Marisa is a true artist. She has a cute, funny personality & is very willing to help. Homework's due each week. There is drawing or painting every class and you use what you've done in class to create your midterm and then final portfolio. Also for the final you complete one drawing and painting as well as an exam.
Sayago is a great, honest art teacher. That said, don't be surprised if she tells you that you're art is sucking. It's relative to the individual though and she really pays attention to how you are improving overall. Don't take this class if you're expecting an easy and carefree class, go expecting to learn.
Marisa is an excellent professor, I have taken both a clay class and a printmaking class. I had very little to no experience in either art class before her and she taught me a lot while still leaving a lot of room for personal creativity. I would 100% recommend her, she's awesome!
Prof. Sayago is a great teacher, that said the class is NOT an easy A, you have earn it by doing all the homework and do the in class work. I learned so much about drawing from this class.
Another amazing professor! Listen to instruction, but don't be afraid to ask questions if you didn't understand something. Sayago is fun and relaxed, but can be serious from time to time. Though, when she is, there is usually a good reason. Some of my favorite pieces have been created in her classes and I'd highly suggest taking her.
Very nice teacher but extremely hard grader THIS IS NOT AN EASY A the class is more stress than all my classes combined
I love her class. I know I can count on her. I now have artwork selling for $200,000. Thank Marisa!
Great teacher! Always to the point and tells you how to improve as well. Clear and interesting assignments. Makes a fun classroom - short lecture, long time drawing, not to mention plays good music. Funny and awesome personality. Cares about her students, accessible outside of class whenever you need help.
Prof Sayago is super sweet and funny. I learned a lot in this class and improved my artistic skills significantly. However, this class is by no means an easy A. You have to put in the effort and demonstrate your understanding of what she teaches. If you pay attention during lectures and complete your assignments, you will be fine :)
Professor Sayago is a credit to FLC. She is a highly skilled Professor who will help, aid and be available to students who need guidance in their projects. She is very approachable and kind, but you will have to put in the work and attendance to get a respectable grade in this class. If you want an easy 'A' this is not the class for you at all.
This is the absolute worst professor I have ever had! She gives very limited feedback on projects and does NOT care if you have no art background. She gives absolutely no leeway when it comes to projects. She has a very specific way she likes projects done and unless you are Picasso she will grade you super harshly. DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A GE!!
Nice teacher, would of liked more feedback on projects, but I feel that was more due to the nature of the class during covid. Class time was meeting once a week in zoom to watch her demo our next project and answer any questions that we had about previous stuff. Projects mostly consisted of timed drawings of either the full form or a specific part.
I took Professor Marisa Sayago's online art 300 class and she was very sweet. The workload was a bit heavy at the begining of the semester but it got better at the end. She held zoom classes once a week to teach the new material for the week. Overall great professor, I recommend.
Prof. Sayago is one of the best I have taken. She loves clay sculpture and sculpture and it shows. Lectures are short and to the point. Students spend a lot of time actually doing art projects. If you have questions she is always ready to answer. I have learned SO much from Prof. Sayago.
Prof. Sayago is a great art professor. She loves art and her students. Students spend most of the time actually painting. Prof. Sayago really knows her stuff and is always willing to help if you need it. You do have to do the work though to get a good grade. I highly recommend her classes.
One word: AMAZING!
Prof. Sayago is very knowledgeable and passionate about figure drawing. We draw everyday and almost the entire class period. I learned a lot and improved so much from this class. Prof. Sayago gives the whole picture and approach and then breaks it up into parts.
Very knowledgeable about clay sculpture, and always gave good critiques both while you made your projects and after they were completed. There is a paper you have to write, so if that's not your thing, this may not be the art class for you.
On class works she's very critical and sometimes grade the art project harshly. Sometimes she is not in a friendly tone when there are some errors in a art project. I suggest looking for a art professor that's very helpful and not speaking in a unfriendly tone
She is a biased grader which is highly unprofessional but yes she typically grades based on how much she likes you not how well your doing in class. Moreover she tends to come off rude and egotistical when critiquing which is unhelpful to all students.
I took both Perspective drawing and Sculpture from Sayago. (I've heard that 3d Design was a nightmare, so I don't recommend that class). 75% - 100% of class time is lab doing your own thing. In order to get the most out of your experience, you have to ask for help or critique. In sculpture you have to buy your own materials unless you borrow
Prof. Sayago is very prepared. She is always there to help students, but you do need to ask and pay attention to instructions. Be sure to follow along with the online material, which is place of a textbook. Sttudents that don't like prof Sayago want an easy A. Prof. Sayago is fair and will work with you as long as you put in the work.
Prof. Sayago is an amazing artist. She is fair in her grading. If you put in the work AND listen to her feedback, you will do well. You need to ask for help. The sculpture class is intense, and I learned a lot. There is no textbook for this class, but she has an online component that is there instead of a textbook.
As a student whose English is a second language, this professor was very unfriendly to me. She was very impatient and angry if I asked simple questions. If I didn't ask, she would hardly provide any guidance. This teacher did not make me improve. There was also no detailed grading system to indicate what kind of work could get a high score.
Professor Sayago is helpful, but the class is challenging. Attendance is mandatory, and you'll need to put in the effort to succeed. unstuck ai was a game-changer for my study prep - highly recommend trying it out!
Lectures briefly with a few inadequate videos and then spends weeks saying "get to work" or "figure it out". Wants individuals to ask questions, but if she delivered decent lectures, there would be no need to ask so many questions. Definitely on the snotty side, but only at a few people. Mostly likes questions where she can talk about herself.
In the printmaking class, ART 361. This class has so much to do, but fun work. I am learning so much from Prof. Sayago. She grades fairly and treats everyone farily. Her feedback is good and is always helping in the classroom. No long lectures and gives students a lot of time to work in the class. There is no textbook, but all information online.
This is a hard class, but you really learn a lot, especially how to write about art and present it the public. We get plenty of time work in class. She is flexible with what materials we want to work with. She gives good feedback as long as you are in class and working on your projects. She takes time to walk around tomake sure everyone gets input.
Ceramics with Prof. Sayago is great. She really knows her stuff and makes me want to work hard. You get what you put in. Prof. Sayago can be a tough grader, but is really helpful if you put in the work. You need to be there in order to really get the most out of the class. I highly recommend her.
The class environment is quite noisy and distracting. Ceramic students often share our space and tend to speak loudly, making it hard to focus. She is often late to the class by 30 minutes. As someone from a different country, I sometimes struggle with pronunciation, and while she tried to correct me, she was overly rigid about it.
I learned so much from Prof. Sayago. She is direct in her feedback but does it in a good way. I enjoy the upbeat classroom atmosphere, where students are encouraged to interact. You can even bring your headphones to listen to your own music if you do not want to listen to what other students are talking about.
