honestly she comes across as aggressive she cares about all her students I wasn't a fan until I realized that she really cool just be nice to hear and she will be respectful back
Mariya is great! She makes me REALLY understand what's going on. Webassign might be annoying, but she devotes some time for in in class which is COOL! Hope to get a good grade in her class.
the best!
Ms. Feklistova is very helpful, and she really wants her students know the subject, especially because pre-calculus is fundamental for calculus. I enjoy being in her class though lectures themselves are very VERY long! I would register for her class again.
You can tell that she really wants you to learn and she tries to explain things in depth - in her ways. This can be a blessing and a curse for some; because she wants you to learn, students who have a harder time grasping materials might be intimidated by her which prevents one from seeking help, and one doesn't always understand her ways.
Professor Feklistova is probably one of the best teachers I've had. I just finished her Precalc course and I have to say, I've learned a lot from her. You can tell she really cares when she lectures, and on top of that, she always encourages students to visit her during her office hours. I'll definitely miss her and her cheesy jokes!
She explains things so clearly, I wish I had her last semester, so I wouldnt repeat the same class this spring. Definitely she knows how to teach! Everyone understands the material, and she answers questions outside the class. Also, she gives us time to work of homework in class, which is cool, and if I need help, she explains it nicely.
Very helpful, and if you ask questions she always explains until the moment you get it. Definitely I would recommend her.
I took calc1 with her, and this semester she was tutoring linear algebra. I understood material because of her. She gives very clear explanations. Mariya Feklistova is one of the best teachers I've ever had :) !!!
She teaches in easy-to-understand manner, so everyone understands what is going on. Also, she makes it clear what to focus on before exams. She is very organized and always prepared, and expects the same from her students. Every lecture goes over homework if there are questions. You will definitely learn in her class! Strongly advice her.
She is amazing. She explains the topic very well, organizes her lectures, gives multiple examples, encourages her students to strive for their best. I definitely recommend her as a teacher.
Lectures are straightforward. Has a lot of pride in her students and what she is teaching. Has a slight Russian accent, but it doesn't affect the quality of her lectures. Tolerates people talking in class, but will kick you out if you're disrupting the learning environment. Will explain concepts in greater detail during/after class if requested.
Great professor!! She explained all material in detail and was always open to answering questions.
Data class was much more meaningful because of Ms. Feklistova. I really appreciate all her efforts and time taken to make sure that I understood the content.
Good prof. Intimidating at first, but gets all the content across. Somewhat confusing at times, but if you visit during Office Hours, youll be fine.
She is very good, and way better than my previous instructor. I had to repeat Calc2, and luckily I was in her class. We literally were solving problems in class and did most of the webassign, which is never done in other classes. Strongly recommend! She is always available outside class.
Professor Feklistova makes lectures interesting and engaging. We were watching a couple of documentaries about Calculus, Newton and Leibnitz, which I think not every student has an opportunity to do while being enrolled to calculus class. Thumbs up!
Calc1 class was so meaningful because of her. Every question she'll go over and over and over until the moment everyone understands what's going on. Strongly recommend!!! I had her for my pre-calc as well, very helpful and nice professor!
I had her as a teacher in my new semester where I retook the course. She was a very excellent teacher, right off the bat she gave handouts with rules, formulas, etc. She gave extra practice questions from calc 1. She makes sure you try to understand the material and is very much available to questions, etc.
Excellent!! I had her for MA 914 and half of MA 1324. If I could I would have her for all of my math classes. Any question you have she'll go over, and she truly cares about her students. Strongly recommend!!
Mariya F. is a wonderful instructor! I took Calculus 2 this summer with her, and she made this experience very enjoyable. She is always available outside the class for questions and makes sure you understand the material. Exams are hard, but she does reviews and tells what to focus on while preparing for exams. I wish she teaches other classes!
Excellent professor! Always will answer questions and gives lots of examples ! Enjoyed her lectures!
Considerate. Easy to understand. Helpful. Nice. Willing to answer questions.
Professor Feklistova is one of my favorite, if not my #1 teachers. She is quite easy-going. She is accessible an hour before every lecture, which in my case is very early and on the weekends as well. Her lectures are great and the homework is appropriate - not too much and always what we learned during class. Her recitation teacher is terrible
amazing and funny prof for an easy class in CAS (Manhattan). Even for the parts you might find difficult, she's always accessible before class and on the weekend for help. Textbook isn't really needed if you show up to lectures but don't miss lectures since she gives a lot of pop quizzes
She is super accessible outside of class, and genuinely cares about all of the students. She's the only prof that makes/gives us mock quizzes and exams to work on in class to ensure we do well on the midterms/final, and really takes the time to make sure everything is understood. People enrolled with other profs will always sit in on her lectures.
Very good lectures and challenging coursework! Would totally recommend
During her lectures she shows lots of examples, so you really understand what to focus on while studying for exams. I saw lots of students from other data classes attend her lectures. She goes over home work which is very helpful. I got A in her class because of her :))
Good professor, can go fast at points in her lectures. Great outside of class during office hours. If you want to succeed in this class, you can. 100% recommend.
Professor Feklistova was always available to help me in office hours and off-hours if needed; she motivated me to work hard and practice. She gave plenty of examples from ranging levels of difficulty, and made an initially stressful class more enjoyable.
Definitely recommend such an excellent professor! She is really patient while explaining material when same questions are asked multiple times and always available for office hours. She cares about her students! I learned a lot while being in her class.
Highly recommend! She guides you through every step of her solutions, so you really understand how to solve problems. I enjoyed her mock exams and quizzes which help tremendously while preparing for midterms and final. Also, she reviews calculus 1 (limits, differentiation), so you really know the stuff. She is ALWAYS accessible!
THE BEST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. PERIOD.
Calc II is kind of too much to take during the summer because there are many webasigns and assignments to do, but Prof Feklistova is very helpful because she wants her students to understand and successfully finish the course. Although fast-paces, she presented the material in easily understandable way.
I used to hate math a lot but I don't think that's the case anymore after taking her class!!
She is the best Algebra and Calculus teacher. She is so clear in her teaching and actually wants students to pass. She will do everything she can to help you better understand the subjects so that you do well. If you consistently go in for office hours she will give you extra credit. love her!
Excellent instructor for data class and much more helpful than other professors for the same class. I was enrolled in other class, but attended her lectures. She is always ready to help if you struggle with home work.
Professor Feklistova is amazing. She is extremely skilled at explaining complicated concepts. I am so glad to have taken discrete math over the summer with her!
Shes on el of the best professors Ive had at NYU. I had heard of Discrete Math being a very hard class but she made it very easy. She really cares about her students. If most of the class didnt do the assignment, shell give extra time. She will also give quizzes that wont count to prepare you for tests.
I took Data Analysis with her and while she may seem intimidating at first, don't let that fool you! She is eager to help any student understand the material and will meet outside of her schedule if needed to help students. She is really sweet and caring and really wants her students to succeed. Def recommend her as a professor!
I had her as a teacher my freshman year surprisingly i Failed her precalc class came back and passed with a B. We didn't get a long when we first met but as time passed I noticed she changed. She became more apathetic towards her students. She has earned my respect as I earned hers. I'm grateful for being in her class I wish her all the best.
She is fast!!! but you ask questions, and she will explain until you get it. I like her lectures because she make concepts clear and easy to understand. She lets you know what to focus on and that helps a lot. I wish she teaches calc2 for CAS!
The most helpful professor! She is always there to help you understand stuff, and provides students with extra practice sheets and drills. Learned a lot in her class!
Feklistova is amazing! She is very engaging and does lots of examples in class to make sure you understand the material:)
She is the best math professor I have had thus far here at Tandon. I had her for calc 2, which is known to be the hardest math ever, but she made calc 2 easy! Her lectures are clear and understanding. She will not disappoint.
Professor Feklistova was rated really high so I gave her a shot after my first calc professor was a complete bust. She lectures really fast, so I wouldn't recommend her to anyone who hasn't taken calculus before. Weekly quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final. The good thing is that she gives lots of extra credit so go to class and GO TO OFFICE HOURS !!
Great professor! 3 exams, the lowest grade gets dropped; final is not easy, but she prepares you for it. Ask questions! She is always accessible outside of class, she even could see you during the weekend, she definitely cares about her students! Very open and willing to help!
In terms of teaching, she is the BEST. I hated math before took her class and now I'm sitting in a Calc2 classroom. She is strict with attendance so just go to her class, which is really helpful and well structured. She is really approachable and patient with questions after classes. Btw she curves the whole class in the end.
Love Feklistova. She's actually amazing. I took her for Calc 2 one summer, and I am taking her now for Data Analysis. She cares about students understand the material so she is willing to go over topics to ensure comprehension. She's very nice and easily accessible out of class. I am taking her once again for Discrete Math because she is too great.
Very good professor! Always ready to help! :)
Awesome teacher! She knows the course material very well and is super patient. She was willing to answer every question me and my classmates had and is very nice.I felt we always got enough practice for every topic in this class.
I took Calc 2 this summer, and the course was very well structured which made its fast pace bearable. This is the third course I've had with this specific instructor and she's always done a good job teaching the material and preparing us for exams.
I made an account just to talk about Professor Feklistova. There is nothing more I can ask from. a professor. She is the best professor I've ever had. She is super nice, extremely willing to help outside of class, clear lectures, cares for her students, and helps make a difficult class easy. I can't recommend her enough.
I've had her for both Calc 1 and Discrete now. She's just simply the best, always answering your questions and shows that she cares about you. She is very accessible outside of class as well, make sure to take advantage of that if you have questions.
Went through material insanely fast and provided little to no help on the material. Not sure how her rating is so high - easily the worst professor I've had at NYU. Do not take her.
Prof Felikstova is honestly a super nice woman and I enjoy going to her office hours. However, she moves extremely fast and hasn't adapted to online learning very well. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF U HAVE NEVER TAKEN CALC!!!!!!!! The difference between the examples in class and the test questions is insane. Love her, just not the class. (CAS specific)
I had taken calc before and i had done well in my HS class. I think Mariya is a great teacher but her tests are genuinely impossible. I missed a negative sign and lost over 12% of my exam grade. dont take if this is ur first time in calc, nor if ur prone to simple calculation or math errors . Super sweet/ good teacher but bad grader (CAS)
i took calc in high school and thought this class was extremely difficult. exams are not at all the same level of difficulty as the practice or the quizzes. her grading standards also make getting good grades extremely difficult. the one good thing I have to say about the class is that she does an excellent job at teaching the material.
Prof Feklistova is GREAT! Class is OVERWHELMING, but she invests so much time and dedication into this class, so it is shame to fail! GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!!! She literally goes over every question students ask her! I learned a lot! Great experience!
Enjoyed being in her class! Very energetic and enthusiastic! She conducted great reviews, so I truly felt prepared for the final exam. She is very thorough and clear while teaching, and keeps reviewing topics every class.
The tests are NOTHING like what we go over in class, they are 10x harder than the elementary level examples she does in lectures. The final was also nothing like the reviews she did for the past week in class and office hours leaving everyone blindsided and unprepared for it. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT take her calc 1 class!
Don't take her if it's your first time taking calc
Prof feklistova is not a bad teacher herself. Shes good at explaining concepts, and shell answer your questions if you go for extra help. I got a 5 on my ap calc ab exam, but a c on every big test. She makes the tests SO MUCH harder than the examples she teaches. I really want you to succeed. Dont take her for the hard tests.
She grades really harshly, especially considering a lot of people in the class haven't taken calculus at all. Her teaching by itself is fine, but there are other teachers with the same teaching caliber who are more tolerant in grading (give partial credit, etc). She does not curve individual exams regardless of the results.
Feklistova is amazing. She clearly explains the topic and is willing to help you if you do not understand. She also truly helps when it come to the exam. She'll give us problem that are similar to what we will see. If you have a problem with the exam, I would say you need to study harder.
Feklistova is FANTASTIC. The class itself is overwhelming, but she made it bearable and made the concept easier to understand. Will definitely take her as a professor again.
This class is the type of class that ruins the vibe of the whole semester because it's just so horrible. I honestly feel like it is impossible to get an A without a curve unless you're an actual genius or you cheated. Granted, Feklistova seems like a great professor for other math classes, but do yourself a favor and DO NOT TAKE for Calc 1.
please take my advice: do not take her.
not a horrible teacher but a horrible person with horrible grading- therefore shes a horrible teacher
please do not take her: she clearly does not care about her students at all! she is letting over half of her class FAIL! Calc 1 isnt even a difficult class but she makes it hell
She is a hard grader and you will be very stressed but she is worth it. Also she curves the class in the end (like at the very end) do not trust her when she says she doesnt lol. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! i think her bad reviews were from people who were expecting a worse grade but she ended up curving lol
If you want to be challenged take her- you will learn a lot.
she is a polarizing teacher but she is a great person and wants to see hardworking students. I suggest taking her if you have taken calc before and if you are careful during tests (u cant make little mistakes). She will curve the class in the end, and she will curve you more if you go to office hours and show her you care.
not an easy A, not even an easy B- but youll learn.
Whoever's giving her high ratings has already taken calculus and was most likely one of the very few people who actually got a good grade in the class. She does not give generous curves and she will only raise your grade if you go to office hours, not taking into consideration that some students have work during her sessions. Worst teacher ever.
Weekly quizzes. Super easy though, usually only 2-3 questions. Homework, around 2-3 hours per week, consists of problem sets/worksheets and online Webassign. As for tests, 3 midterms and a final. Question are much harder than homework problems and lecture examples. Curves 1-2 letter grades at the end of semester. Nice teacher. Hosts office hours.
This prof. is really nice and willing to help all her students. I failed exam 1 and ended up with A, she really made me to learn, and that is great. Not an easy class, but you grow after taking it. 100% guaranteed!
Mariya was a very good professor for discrete math and made the content accessible and explained concepts well. However, the online course structure was made by another professor. The class had 6 exams so there was an exam every other weekend which was excessive. In addition the multiple choice exams were very tough.
Had her for Data Analysis in Spring 2020. Really good lectures with plenty of examples and explanation, if you like that style. Talks and writes a bit fast, but always addresses questions and makes sure we understand the material. Also held some review sessions before the final which were pretty helpful. Genuinely wants her students to do well.
Discrete is a tough course, but she made it easy to understand. Constantly asked us questions from last week, so we remembered how to prove things. I enjoyed being in her class. Her reviews and office hours are very helpful.
Great Professor, really went the extra mile to make sure you understood the material and is easily available to help you review. However, the actual format of the class with 6 exams every other week made this class an absolute nuisance. If you are going to take discrete, she is the best option for sure, because this class was absolutely horrible.
had her for Cacl2 and got A however, wasn't lucky enough to register into her class for Data, but classes met online, so I was able to watch her recorded lectures . really felt like learning from her; she is super clear with her explanations and always encourages students to ask questions. Always available for office hours. Super organized!
Fantastic professor, went out of her way to make sure students actually learned the course material.
Professor Feklistova is an amazing professor. I really enjoy how organized her notes are, and how she goes through the homework problems and gives simple explanations for them. I had a very productive time learning the course materials and applying material.
Had her for my OP NCC. She came in clutch because I mainly learned in her class whilst having a mediocre lecturer for Pre-Calc. She prepared us well because the main lecture was pretty behind. Super straight-forward and just teaches us exactly what we need to know.
Professor was amazing. The tests are super straightforward, just make sure to do your WebAssign and gradescope assignments and you should be set for the exams. Her notes alone will make you pass the class so make sure to use that to your advantage if she provides you it
She made sure to ask lots of questions so we were actively doing the examples. I really loved this class! I took it for fun, so I'm glad it was interesting and kept me engaged.
She took time to explain questions to students who had trouble understanding some concepts. Sometimes she would stay more than an hour after class just to make sure her students really understand the concept. It was a pleasure to learn from her.
Organized notes. Attend the review sessions and go to her office hours if you need extra help. She really does care and would go the extra mile to help you understand the material. She can be a bit fast at times when explaining but overall her teaching style is great and understandable
Prof. Feklistova provides so much information during class; even reading her notes can help me get a good grade on the exam. She always answers questions after class.
She is very fast paced and does not give good partial credit. Other calf professors actually pass their students but her grading is way tougher. Good luck.
Professor Feklistova is not good at giving partial credit compared to literally every other NYU Calc I professor. Seriously, take Espinosa because she is very understanding and will give the partial credit Feklistova will not. Feklistova will definitely give you a hard time grading-wise so if you want a good grade, take someone else.
I love Professor Feklistova. She wants to help students understand the content. She might go a little fast many times, but if you tell her, she will slow down. She is one of the best professors at Tandon.
I really enjoyed Feklistova's teaching style throughout the course of the year. I had her for Calc 1 and 2, so my calc foundations are solid! See her in data analysis! My friend took her data class this semester and she is the best among all data instructors. The best Professor at Tandon!
Amazing professor!
Terrible educator. I'm surprised she has a rating above 0.3. The fact that she has made it this far has shown how our education system fails to realize the importance of having proper educators in the development of our youth. She teaches as though you have taken the course several times before and are simply retaking for funsies.
She a g
Best lecture experience I ever had
She's a really nice professor and an even better person. I just didnt show up to class after the second midterm in November and approached her a week before the final in December asking her what I should study. She gave me a list of important topics to cover for the final.
She's a great professor, her lectures r good, she is incredibly kind & always accessible. She tends to teach fast. So many assignments and quizzes too. Unfortunately, I did terrible in class. I didnt put a ton of work into it & was hestiant to go to office hours. I also shouldve taken an algebra/trig class before Calc. Final was excruciatingly hard
Great. Lectures are clear and easy to understand. Exams and homework are made by math department so difficulty isn't on her. AWESOME exam prep, if you attend review sessions you will do great on exam. I did take calc I before but even when she introduced a new topic I still picked it up so I wouldn't call her good just because I already took Calc.
Feklistova is well-versed in the topics she teaches. She writes everything on a white board, so try not to miss a lecture. She has a tendency to move quickly through lessons. Provides ample amounts of questions to grasp a topic. Tough-love professor.
Feklistova is well versed in what she teaches. She gives direct answers. Whiteboards are her preferred form of providing math content. Try not to miss lecture since she does move at a fast pace. Does a good job at providing ample amounts of practice problems. Tough-love kind of professor.
Professor Feklistova teaches well and makes sure students are paying attention. She has a good teaching style and goes through practice problems during class and it helps learning a lot. She seems kind of scary at first, but she is funny, nice, and will answer questions. She sometimes goes fast during class but you can always ask her to slow down.
She is great. Her old school way of writing on the board with a marker and getting students to solve questions on the board helped me a lot.
Feklistova is a great professor!---if you know the topic. Having a great professor does not mean you will automatically do well in the class. I like how she writes on the board, but if you have not taken Calculus 1 or Calculus 2, I DO NOT recommend her because she is very fast and the material will be hard to grasp.
G O A T! Feklistova for data = you'll know how to solve problems on exams/quizzes I had her for precalc as well, and she stands out as always! By far the most caring professor at Tandon. Wish she could teach linear and calc3
Mariya doesn't post any digital notes, simply writes on whiteboard, but her style of teaching is effective but not for all though; she is fast, but willing to slow down if you ask her; if you struggle with some material, ask her questions and she will instruct you on what to review. Always available for her students. Terrific Professor
I wasnt able to get into her class simply attended her lectures and ended up with an A. She provides clear explanations and guidance she made us solve lots of problems in class, literally hands-on experience on how to solve stuff and know which table to use. Zoom reviews were very helpful Professor Feklistova is the best choice for data class
I am forever grateful to Professor Feklistova for being a wonderful professor. I managed to get by Calculus 2 with not much difficulty because of her lectures and assistance.
She is a really nice and understanding person. Gives lots of practice in class and goes over homework assignments in you ask her. No curve in class, all is handled by the department (exams/quizzes). Highly recommend taking her class.
GOAT. one of the best math teachers ever met in my life. She tries her best to get u an A. Try to stay focus in her class and you'll learn a lot. Will take again if there's a chance
Prof Feklistova is THE BEST math professor at Tandon! Very detailed lectures and gives out lots of practice in class. Always available to help. If you take her in the fall for Calc1 and in the spring for Calc2, you probably will think of minoring in math! She may give you advice about internships and job opportunities. Most caring professor!
Great professor who cares about her students! Can wait to be back in her class next semester!
Professor Feklistova is an excellent teacher. Her lectures are engaging, and she's always willing to help students who are struggling. I found unstuck ai really useful for prepping for quizzes and exams in her class.
Great professor. If you show up to class and pay attention you will succeed. You will 100% finish the syllabus before all other classes. She is very fast paced but will slow down or reiterate as needed. She will guide you on problem sets and homeworks if you ask.
Professor Feklistova moves through the material quickly and only uses the whiteboard, which I found to be a very effective learning style. She genuinely cares about her students' success and is always approachable outside of class, encouraging everyone to ask questions and attend office hours, which is a great opportunity to get additional support.
Prof Feklistova's lectures are full of information and examples. She was available to answer questions after each class. She made us copy all notes, and that was helpful. Calc 2 is tough but she made it accessible. Really enjoyed to learn from her.
she teaches more than any other instructor i've taken, and that prepares you for the next class. i took her for precalc and cal 2, she really makes her students remember the material; attend office hours and practice all examples she covers in her reviews. very helpful and knowledgeable!
