Marjan is really laid back and she's also very helpful. She wants you to understand everything. She really wants all of her students to do well.
I had Marjan for 111A lab and she's awesome. From all my lab instructors she has been by far the nicest and most helpful in class and during office hours. She explains concepts in straighforward and simple ways.
She's great to have as a lab instructor. Very fair. Her quizzes at the beginning of the labs were easy as long as you read the lab ahead of time. She was very helpful during the labs and also great to help prepare for the exams. Remember, that these instructors grade the exam parts that are not multiple choice. Have her grade your exam.
Apparently, she's never taught the Lecture section for this class; it shows. She might be good in a small lab setting, but in a full lecture hall, she just reads off the book publisher's powerpoints. I feel like I'd get the same benefit out of just reading the book, and skipping lecture altogether. According to her, we are an entire lecture behind.
During lecture she goes over concepts and theories but spends very little time on any computations in chemistry which what her tests consist of. Her accent makes it somewhat hard to understand and concentrate on the lecture. Overall, I've been told that she was good as a lab instructor, but not lecture.
Professor Mohamadi is a very sweet woman who is willing to help if you go to her office hours. Many people got annoyed with her accent but it is not hard to understand at all. Go to class so you dont miss Iclicker questions! 3 exams, a final, homework and lab make up your grade. Study hard
After reading her previous reviews about how good she is in lab, decided to give her a shot for lecture, big mistake. She reads directly from the ppt and quickly passes through material. She's tough to listen to with the fluctuating tone she has on her voice while lecturing. Teaches the concepts but not much calculations. Avoid like the plague.
Marjan cares about her students and tries to teach the course the best she can. But she does rely on ppt too much and should use more examples in class. The 3 exams and final are not very hard, but you do need to read the textbook and do all hw packets/online hw to do well. There is lots of hw but if you do it and understand it-you will pass
Marjan is a wonderful professor for what she has to teach. General chemistry isn't that fun of a class to take, but she makes it tolerable. Your lab instructor will probably be more of a concern. Take the homework seriously. Easy points and they count for ~1/4 of your grade. ATTEND CLASS AND DO THE ICLICKERS. :D The final is easy but read carefully
She lectures straight from the power point, so it does get pretty boring. You have to be there to get iclicker points. The exams are not that bad, basically study the hard questions in mastering chemisty because those are on the exams. S/I class really helps too. Could of gotten an A but lab instructor was strict with grading.
I took this class fall of 2012 and as far as I understand she used to be a difficult teacher but when I took her I had no problems with her. Extremely sweet, helpful, and held extra assistance times on top of her office hours where she went over old tests. I had no problem with her accent and would recommend her to anyone taking this class.
Mohammadi is the nicest lady! She has an accent, but it is easy to understand. She is always very willing to help you. I only used the textbook a few times to do extra practice problems she suggested in the syllabus.
Marjan was one of the nicest professors I have had, however, she does not do a very good job of teaching the material. Her extra office hours are extremely helpful, but reading the text book is even more helpful. Do not base the difficulty of test questions off of her test reviews. Study the suggested problems in her syllabus and pray to Zeus!
Very hard to understand, does not teach well because she always rushes her lecture. Very hard class to pass. You're better off reading the textbook or watching youtube videos and teaching yourself.
You definitely need to be in the textbook and studying on your own, but she does well with what she's given and is helpful during office hours. As always, reading the text before class will help greatly. WATCH OUT for trick questions on the tests. There will be at least three each test, however you will be well prepared for the ACS.
Okay so she is nice, but her voice is ANNOYING. I don't go to lectures at all cuz all she says you can find in the book. Come to lecture before exams and after each chapter to receive clicker points
Mohammadi is a pretty sweet lady. Really enjoyed her lectures as she is actually really funny and makes the class laugh. Sometimes she's a little hard to follow, but all in all a fairly good lecture professor.
Read the book. She does a Powerpoint presentation every day, which can get a little redundant and bland. iClicker points are dispersed here and there, but attendance really isn't mandatory, when the book teaches more than she can with little over than an hour.
She is fair. You need to read the book towards the end. Easy B, hard A.
Mohammadi is your typical science professor. There is nothing special about her except she is a funny lady and her lectures are pretty crystal freakin' clear when it comes to general chemistry. It is not an easy course. But it's also not an overwhelmingly difficult course either. Put in a moderate amount of effort, do well in Mastering Chem!
I am rating after taking both semester of General Chem 111A and 111B. To be honest chem111A was not hard at all. She is definitely not the best lecturer but if you read the book, you should be getting an A. Chem111B gets much harder. You will laugh at how easy this class was after taking 111B. Good luck to all!
Mohammadi tries to give students the best chance of succeeding. Her accent doesn't make her hard to understand. If you ever need help on homework or want to go over a test you can go to her office hours. The tests during the semester can be difficult, but the final was so so easy. Do the homework, do the labs, show up to class, and you'll be fine!
Her lectures are long and boring, and most of the time aren't helpful at all. Had to do most of the learning from the textbook and from labactivity. Few exams, lots of mastering chemistry, some online work to do.
come to class for iclicker pts, sleep through the lecture, and then go home and read the textbook. it explains things very clearly and is definitely underused. there are study guides for exams. make sure you know how to do every question bc they are almost identical to the test questions. lab instructors are awesome, go to their office hours.
The class is tough but she is the professor who does this class justice. She will make everything so clear, GO TO OFFICE HOURS. She is an amazing professor. She is SOOOOOOOOOOO underrated. Her exams were though but if you go to office hours she will no doubt help you earn an A. She is one of the few professors with a HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is the best Chem111A professor. Chemistry is not an easy subject so be prepared to study. Activities and master chemistry helps a lot for the test. She cares about students so don't sleep in class and pay attention. Easy A if you understand the powerpoints and practice the activities.
Marjan is a nice lady. Her lectures can get long and boring, but she is helpful during the lab... only when you ask for it. She will probably yell at you (in a nice way) for doing something wrong if you don't ask first. She was never on campus besides for class so no office hours. Quizzes every class so be prepped. HW and quizzes are graded hard.
I was hesitant to take her at first, but she is AMAZING! Chem is hard but her notes are detailed along with great examples. 4 exams total plus ACS final. Mastering Chem will save your grade, do it! Do well on the labs too. Go to Mohammadi's office hours, she clarifies so well and loves when students go in to get help from her! Must take!
She has an accent which only makes the topic harder to learn imo. I didnt like how she went on and on. Do your mastering chem!! Trust me, it was the reason I passed this class. Also study, I didnt do much of that. Oh and she also does iclickers
Very helpful and passionate teacher. Lecture is dry and boring at times but still very good class to take.
She is very helpful. She will help you with any question you have, her office hours are the best. Even if you don't have a question visit her office and listen to others questions, because you might remember a question you did have.
Marjan is a great professor. People say that she is not so good and would rather have Chen. Imo Marjan is just as good. No matter what Chem111A is a difficult course. With enough studying and practicing problems, getting a B is possible. Just make sure to do all your labs and mastering chem And if she offers aleks at the beginning of the sem do it!
Mohammadi is an awesome professor! she has an accent which sometimes makes it difficult to understand her lectures, but she is there for you and she is very helpful during office hours!! would definitely take her again! definitely study for the tests because they are not easy!
Take her, she can throw 'shade' at times but she has a good heart. It is not an easy A, you would have to visit her office hours occasionally to lock an A in. one thing everyone should know is that EVERY POINT COUNTS. the class is already curved, so she won't curve it more even if you are border-line.
She's a good teacher, but lectures way way too fast. She asks if the class has any questions and no one even has the time to start thinking about a question. Chemistry is a pretty hard subject, so the fast pace leaves me clueless at the end of most lectures. Go to office hours when you can and just practice problems. She is sweet.
DON'T take her! what happens in her class is that she explains the very easy examples that basically youtube can explain it to you probably in a less time even. What is in the exams, requires a lot more than what she offeres in the classroom. If you want to mess up your GPA and not learn chemistry, go ahead and take her.
You always have to stay on track of what is going on. I spent the first beginning of the semester trying to understand her accent and had to study a lot on my own. Had to prioritize this class over all the others because it is very time consuming. She is always available during office hours and is very kind, but you have to work hard for your grade
Do Alek, activity set, mc. Do not miss lectures if your trying to get an A. Her accent is not bad ive had worse and her office hours are worth going to if you are confused. Review lecture notes before, after and on free time and the concepts will stick. 1st and 3rd exam -concept, 2nd exam-calculation, Final-both (get ACS guide).
I was kind of scared reading other comments about her but she's actually a really nice professor! Her accent can be a little tough to understand and she goes through the lecture pretty fast, but she does a good job of explaining it. Her office hours are very hectic! The tests are also nothing like the test reviews so, but hw keeps your grade up.
It's 65% or more to pass the class. Great teacher, so nice and caring, thought I wouldn't pass at 1st cuz I suck at chem but if you get A's on all labs's and mastering chem, do the only extra credit available but get 66%'s on all test's then you'll end up with a solid 70 something % C.
Not super hard, just time consuming, even if you did poorly in high school chemistry. Just work hard and try to produce your best work. Practice using activity sets provided and textbook (textbook was rather clear and easy to use). Great lecturer, could hear clearly from back of hall even with her accent. Invites questions and is funny at times.
Amazing professor. Explains concepts thoroughly. Really wants you to excel in the course and is willing to put in the time if you are. Do ALEKS before semester starts!! Do end-of-the-chapter problems. And do activity sets. You will get an A!
Exams are the most important part of this class, be prepared to study and spend a lot of time understanding the concept. Exams are based on problems given in lecture. Great lectures and professor.
Amazing professor. You can really tell she likes chemistry! She explains things in simple ways so you can understand the concepts. Although you should still read the textbook and do the activity sets. I suggest printing out the lecture slides (4 per page to save paper and money and go to the G2). She's also really helpful so go to her office hours!
If you have Mrs. Mohammadi for CHEM 111A, you are in for a good treat. The funny thing is that I took her course last semester and earned a B, and when I come to CHEM 111B, which is really harder, I earned a pretty A. She is passionate about chemistry, she gives you opportunities to get an A. If you do your reading, HW's and ask for help, easy A.
She's nice, her accent can make it a bit hard to understand, gives good examples, and randomly does iclicker points. Do the EC given before the beginning of class, it will really help you out grade wise. The homework on MC can take forever, so do a few problems each day so it doesn't become so tedious.
Without a basic understanding of the concepts you will get lost in her "story telling". If you fail the placement test I recommend going to chem 90 and just taking your time. It's better than wasting all your time in this class and chem95 just to fail. If you're determined, back of book problems and office hours. SAS center all day every day.
I've have never been more depressed because of a class in my life. I cannot understand what she is saying because of her accent and the examples she gives are nothing like the test. After the first day of the semester I cried. I think I cried almost everyday because of this class. I have learned nothing from marjan. CHOOSE ANDREA CHEN FOR LECTURE.
This course is so EXPENSIVE!! You have to buy the (expensive!) textbook, the online homework program, a clicker, and lab coat + goggles. And if you wanna actually do well, you have to BUY the extra credit (you get graded on how much you complete) and also buy a study guide for the final exam :-) she's an ok prof though. Make sure you go to lab!
She is a really nice lady, and super helpful in her office hours. She does speed through the lectures though and is kind of vague, so you will have to read on your own. But do the activity sets that are provided, because a lot of test questions come from them, or are similar. But if you ever need help, just go to her office hours and you will be ok
Shes really funny her personality is great the test are really hard so you have to study the study guides dont work so make a study group or tutoring do alek for extra credit points it helps alot! Do good on mastering chem and the labs I literally failed every test but did good on everything else and i passed with a C if i can do it yall can do it
I took AP Chem and I did okay till I started being lazy. Because the content she goes over is basic and if you're having trouble in this class then you may want to rethink your major. Everything Is really straight forward and at her office hours she'll go over the last exam and see where you're having trouble. I heard Chen is easier tho but idk.
Marjan is not a great lecturer, I felt like what she went over is useless and I had better luck learning from the textbook. If it wasn't for iClicker points, I would ditch it. This class is hard but passable if you do all the MC and get A's on labs. I'm so glad that I won't ever have to sit through her lectures again. Avoid taking Marjan.
Marjan is very intelligent and good at explaining the material. I say this because I never took AP Chem and went straight into this class without even opening the textbook once and I still passed somehow. Make sure to do activity sets because a lot of those questions are on her exams.
I swear she is the worst lecturer I have ever had for Chemistry. She assigns us way too much homework we cant even study for our exams. If I were you I would choose someone else as a Chem111A professor.
Honesty hardest class I have ever taken. I recommend, to look over the question at the end of each chapter. Also, take the S/I class
Worst lecturer ever. She teaches the easiest things her tests don't match the activity series questions and review exams. She enjoys torturing students. The tests are really super hard. Stay away.
She is the worst teacher I've had so far. No matter how much you study, the exams have different questions and you won't have enough time for the problems. If you study too much and do all the MC and activities you still might not pass the course. Take it with another professor.
She is the worst professor ever. The tests are nothing near her lectures. She always rants over unnecessary stuff and bores the class with her stupid, not even funny jokes. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
GUYS YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO TAKE HER CLASS. SHE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT STUDENTS, THE CLASS AVERAGE IS F, AND THE TESTS ARE SUPER HARD . THE REVIEW EXAMS ARE SUPER EASY COMPARED TO TESTS AND ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM TESTS. I BELIEVE SHE ENJOYS WHEN STUDENTS STRUGGLE ON THE EXAM. SHE DOESN'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP STUDENTS IMPROVE THEIR SCORE.
Worst instructor ever. Don't recommend her.
Accent isn't anywhere near as bad as some people claim. Mastering Chem is a lot of work but useful for understanding if you stop using chegg or copying off others. Study with purpose and listen to her advice and you'll pass the class. Not trying because other people say this prof is bad just sets you up for failure.
THE WORST PROFESSOR AT CSULB ! She doesnt care about the students and says its our fault that all of the test averages are 50-60%. Youre better off waiting to take the class next semester rather than taking her. Her pass rate is so low idk how she hasnt been fired. Horrible lecturer, rude, all around terrible profesor
Read the textbook because she runs through the power points extremely fast. Do all the mastering Chemistry and labs because they help boost grade. Her tests are very hard so try to recover points with labs/hw/etc. This class is the reason why I changed my major lol. I hated it! But if you put all your time and commitment you can at least pass.
She as a person is very nice but as a teacher, she's not the best mainly because of how fast she goes. The labs are super easy and worth a lot so try to get an A in that as well as an A on MC. Most of the answers for MC are on Chegg if you have that. The clicker questions are stupid and made to make you fail. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK I never used it
If you took AP chem in HS, this course should be free A for you. All the topics are very basic and just a review from high school chemistry, except you are learning the reasons behind that. Use her office hours wisely because she is very friendly and explains to you in detail if you ask her questions. Reviewing the exams will help you in thfinals.
Terrible instructor who consistently makes mistakes and corrections on her own instructions. Not to mention she is rude to communicate with if you can't follow her instructions that are inaccurate to begin with.
I failed this class the first time I took it and am retaking it for grade forgiveness. She talks way too fast and speeds through material expecting you to understand the concepts from reading the textbook even though she goes over info that isn't on the exam. DO THE ALEKS AND UR LAB GRADE CAN HELP ALOT, but TAKE CHEN IF U CAN FOR UR OWN SAKE
Try to avoid this class if possible! This class made me miserable, and was the reason that I changed the major. She gets very upset when the test average is very low, yet she doesn't realize that it's because of her teaching. The tests are NOTHING like the study guide, do all the mastering chemistry
I honestly don't know how she can be an instructor in the first place. I would not even spend a dime to pay for her instructions. Run.
Anxiety and self-doubt? That's what you'll constantly feel when you are enrolled in this class. You'll always have homework, and prepare yourself for 45 minute exams that contain typos and long problem solving questions. No exams are curved even if the majority of the class fails. Marjan wins the award for the WORST professor at CSULB.
She has a heavy accent that makes lectures hard to follow and she speeds through concepts. I stopped attending lectures and took notes from the book. If you have Chegg, it will save you! 4 exams 45 minutes, 25 questions. 4-5 quizzes 10 min, 4-5 questions each (lowest dropped). DO THE ALEKS and take Mastering Chemistry seriously!! MAKE FRIENDS!
The worst class I took this semester. She is a very nice and funny person but teaching online is not for her. Her accent took time to get used to but it is not bad. She assigns so much homework. We got about 2 hrs/day worth of hw. Chegg will help you pass. Tests and quizzes are a joke because of the time limit and the difficulty. Avoid this class.
Chem 119A is not easy and very time consuming. THE HOMEWORK IS RIDICULOUS. We had a 80+ question hw for a chapter that took over 3-4 hours to complete. IDK why everyone talks about her accent, its honestly not even bad. She tries her best teach in class but the exams is nothing like the homework and lab activity sets.
I gave Professor Mohammadi a two star review earlier this semester and I take it back. She is actually a great professor with a kind soul. She wants to help students and actually tries to teach compared to other teachers. She answers any questions you have and has quality lectures. 10/10 AUDIO & VISUALS. Hard class, dont expect it to be easy.
People are giving her whack ratings because they are blaming her for not being able to teach. This online environment is hard on both students and the professor. Don't blame the prof for not doing well in the class. Its a 5 unit class, its hard work needs to be put in. Definitely not an easy B. Easy C though.
Extremely condescending. Basically reads the power point lectures word for word. My class had 100+ students in a single zoom call so there is absolutely no chance of getting your questions answered during class. Never got a response from various emails I sent her either. To top it all off, we had a homework assignment 2 weeks before class started
She is a very nice, funny lady. However, online teaching isn't really her strength. The whole semester, the lab schedule was ahead of lecture, which ended up being even more confusing on top of the already difficult lectures. Lab tech taught me a lot of the course. Another thing is the excessive homework, good luck with that. I suggest taking irl
Probably the worst Professor you will ever have. She is evil!! No exceptions cant talk, cant explain a concept. Talks to us like we are 10 years old and is a complete mess. She is horrible to be honest. Never thinks anything is her fault, wont reply to a single email. So glad I will never have to see her again.
When I took her a few years ago, it was so hard to maintain a good grade as there was almost no opportunity for extra credit when the exams cut down your grade. Homework was online and extremely long, especially since she relied on the lab instructors to teach student how to do them, but the lab instructors already expect you to know.
Horrible
This class is exceptionally difficult, I won't lie. The homework takes hours to do and I didn't find lectures helpful at all. The textbook and your lab TA will be your best friends. However, do not be discouraged if you're struggling in the beginning. I got F's on the first two exams and still managed to get an 85. Try to study prior to the class.
Aleks Extra cred. LOOK SHE'S GOOD.. idk y ppl hate her. I passed the class with an A, BUT I attended every lecture. Did every activity before lab. Did them again before exam. The final was from the ACS, you can find a free pdf online for it, practice it. This class isn't easy in general. Do your best, love chemistry and it'll react to loving u back
I DONT RECPMMEND BUYING THE ACTUAL TEXTBOOK. buy it from pearson when u pay for your hw. it has videos and is shorter. read it before class, she doesnt force u to do it tho. Chem isn't easy and you need to understand this course because most of u will have to take chem111b, part 2. only 2 ppl teach this class and they're married. goodluck!!
I actually enjoyed this class, most people I've talked to didn't like her but I thought she was pretty good. The course can be sort of tough at times but if you do the homework you should be fine. There is a lot of homework though. Other than that, she's super nice and cares about her students.
Not a bad professor. She is a very nice person and she means the best, although her tone can rub some students the wrong way. She wants you to participate and she pushes her students to answer quickly. Just beware of a lot of homework through Mastering Chemistry, but that's for both hers and Chen's class.
Shes a really good professor if you pay attention during her lectures. Got a D the first time I took it cuz i didnt take the class srsly and had bad study habits. When i retook the class I got an A. Chegg is a good tool for hw but make sure you understand the material; dont copy blindly just to get it done. This will harm u on tests, trust me.
This professor is an actual horrible person. When missing a 10-point quiz for being in the mental hospital she showed no sympathy and gave me a zero. This speaks words on her character. She doesnt care we are in a global pandemic. Never replies to emails. Extremely unhelpful. Lectures are horrible because you cant understand a work shes saying.
3 exams, 1 intro assessment, a final, and a few quizzes (lowkey pop quizzes). DO the ALEKS extra credit, takes a while but worth it! Isnt the easiest class but if you put in A LOT of time/effort you can get an A for sure. lectures are incomplete(fill in the blank) its inconvenient so I stopped going at started teaching myself from the etext.
Do the ALEKS extra credit!! I didn't do it and my grade probably could've been better if I had done it. I stopped attending lectures because they were somewhat chaotic and I learned better on my own. Mastering Chemistry is LONG so divide it up between a couple of days. Try getting a good lab grade, that basically saved my grade. Marjan is ok.
Marjan is a pretty good professor. Not a class you can just get by. Youve gotta put in the work for the grade you want. Ask questions, she gives you more than enough chances to ask questions. Work hard and it will pay off
please don't take this class. the mastering chemistry takes so much time and she expects you to take notes/learn at least 60 slides a week. she makes people feel that they are stupid if they don't understand the concepts immediately. the workload is insane & she doesn't answer emails & even if you are in the hospital she will not give an extension.
completely unresponsive to emails, doesn't communicate at all with her TA for the discussion so everyone is confused. horrible professor who has mentally checked out of her job I did okay but it was despite her. Professor Chen is much more professional
You need to work for an A. Reading the lectures and the book will help. Your lab insturctor will be your greatest tool. In my opinion the chem 95 course helped me get more exposure to the material. Try to do well on everything. Accumulate as many points. Do the extra credit! Marjan is okay at lecturing but is not well at communicating.
Marjan is a difficult professor in a few key ways. Firstly, she will *never* answer your emails. You need to unionize with the entire class to provoke her to respond. Secondly, her office hours (the online ones specifically) almost never happen. You can sit there for an hour and she'll never show up. Regardless, you can get an A if you work for it.
This is the first rmp that I've written in my 3 years at csulb. I've been an A/B student for literally every of my upper division classes. I expected a B or even a C. - Lectures are not helpful - Hw is extremely difficult and there's a lot...100 questions a week is ridiculous - if you need this take chen (same hw but better prof) or transfer credit
Professor Mohammadi is very funny and sarcastic in class, but she expects a lot out of her students. There are easily 50+ mastering chem problems per week, and she likes to trick us in her exams (last class average was 40%). Overall, there's too much MC work, but do the ALEKS extra credit at the beginning of the year and you should be fine.
There was a lot of homework on Mastering Chemistry and she never tells you when new assignments are uploaded. There are five exams that are 100 points each which are extremely hard. Go to her office hours to get more help and extra examples. Make sure to pay attention during lecture because she goes over examples. This is not an easy class be aware
Marjan is one of the worst chem professors ever. She either goes through subjects too slow or way too fast and covers nothing. ended up trying to teach myself everything. right before big tests she loves to give out 200 homework questions on mastering chem so instead of studying you have to spend all your time doing busy work.
I study almost 12hrs a day for this class, the MC hw is crazy heavy and there is not enough time to do the exams or quizzes. It does not take 1-2min to do Stoichiometry and Heat reaction or mole conversion questions. I am in two different tutoring centers to help me pass and I can barely get my grade up. Lack of communication is ridiculous!
Take the class at a CC. Its not worth it to take the class here. Test averages in the 40% range, no curve. That should tell you what you need to know. If you get a bad lab instructor as well, it will make it incredibly difficult to pass.
Okay to start off, she is a kind professor but the class is not easy! If you want an B or A, you need to study extra hard, read the chapters, watch videos, go to lecture, activity, and lab. You HAVE to ask questions otherwise she moves on FAST! The grading is curved but DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! To pass, you need to take up a lot of time outside class!
You learn more from the MasteringChem homework than attending lectures. Your lab professor is your best friend in obtaining a good grade for this class. Do the activities and exam reviews and study them religiously before a test. Take advantage of the ALEKS extra credit at the beginning of the semester. Obtaining an A or B is tough. Good luck
Not good. She does not care. Not passionate about the subject. She states you will like chem by the end of sem while I developed a hatred for it. Class is very very hard. Takes up so much of your time. So many mental breakdowns. PTSD for sure. Content is hard and requires so much practice. Mastering chem is so time consuming and draining.easytofail
Chem 111A is a challenging course by nature, but she doesn't care about her students at all. Ludicrous amounts of homework, takes forever to grade, and doesn't help much. Lab professor helps better than she does. The activity sheets are good study. Class not so much.
Marjan is amazing. Most of the negative reviews took place during COVID. Nobody can learn chemistry well online. She makes time during her office hours to explain anything that was confusing in the lecture. Chemistry really boils down to how much of your time you are willing to put in. If I can do it, SO CAN YOU!
Would not recommend this professor for those who dont have a chemistry background. Honestly learned nothing from lectures. Heavy accent.
This class was a rough one. The test were hard and never curved, the lectures were hard to follow and most units were not proportionally relevant on the exams. As someone who got pretty good grades throughout highschool and a good understanding of chemistry this class pushed me to the edge and not in a good way at all. Avoid if possible.
Marjan is silly and makes you laugh. However, she does speed through the notes and sometimes rambles. Attendance isnt mandatory but you will have to show up if you want to pass. You need to show up to make sure you get all the clicker questions. Make sure you check the mastering chem because they never tell you when they post new assignments.
Marjan is definitely overhated. Yes, the course is difficult but it is not impossible. She is super helpful during her office hours and you can tell she genuinely cares about her students. Her lectures tend to go a little fast because she has a lot of material to cover but she will take her time teaching you one on one.
She assigns TOO much MasteringChem. The lectures are heavy with information, but she speeds through it. Chem 111A is already a difficult class, but I felt like it was even more difficult with this professor. Wouldn't take her again.
Not as bad as they say. But, it is hard to talk to her during office hours in a tiny room and she has to divide her attention among students crammed in there. Does not communicate with lab TA so be prepared for lab quizzes about topics not covered. Put effort into the lab activities and practice exams. Lots of free extra pts given at the end.
There are 4 exams (25 questions - 50 min) and an ACS final (70 q - 110 min). Mastering chem homework is sometimes very heavy. She sometimes speeds though lecture but she holds zooms before every exam for questions. Activity sets are great practice for the exams. Do good in lab & do the aleks extra credit. Reading the textbook is helpful too.
Marjan cares about her students if you do show up enough and talk to her often. Her lectures are heavy and sometimes you need to be there to get iClicker points. Textbook is necessary if you want to understand the material better. Your TA is your best friend to passing the class. Tests are very difficult but similar to activity sets.
Good professor and knows what she is doing. However, content is naturally heavy, so it will help to skim through the textbook, watch quick videos on the topic, or take additional support classes. Lots of homework to do, so prepare. Definitely do the extra credit (ALEKS) for grade boost! Attendance is not mandatory, but iClickers are randomly given.
Attend lectures - when I missed it was hard to understand the material. You can tell Prof cares for her students and tries to keep the lectures entertaining. She goes fast but always stopped for questions which I appreciated. Also make sure to get the iClicker (didn't use it the first couple weeks but used it a lot towards the end of the semester.)
I liked her as a professor and I liked her teaching style. A lot of people had mixed feelings about her but I think she was fine. However, you must work for the grade you want and make sure you understand everything taught in lecture. And do the ALEKS extra credit in the beginning!!! It will save your grade a lot.
Do pre-ALEKS extra credit. Labs will buffer your grade. Your lab TA will either make or break your grade. Practice activity sets/ study guides in prep for exams. Our ACS final was not curved even though it was curved for the class last fall semester. The average for our final was 49% yikes. Just dedicate A LOT of time practicing & you'll do good.
Professor Mohammadi is a difficult professor I am conflicted on her because she is super kind and wants you to get the information but doesn't really put in much effort to help you get the material. Find some friends in the class and work and study with them in lab and lecture. Get ready to strap in and do the work on your own because its all you.
Marjan's teaching method was more difficult for me to learn from. She would mostly draw on the whiteboards and talk rather than write on the slides. Chemistry is hard in general. Do the ALEKS extra credit in the beginning if you are able to. Mastering Chemistry was horrible and way too much work. There were 4 exams and 1 ACS Final.
The main issue with Marjan is that she refuses to help students with exam scores, the average is usually in the 40-50% range and there is no curve with only points being given at the very end (sometimes) that barely change much, exams are also very tricky. The only reason why I ended up passing was because of my lab TA.
She is tough and intimidating but honestly the best at explaining chemistry. You will learn and understand so much from her.
She is a professor that expects you to do hours of work thinking that that will help you learn the material. Professors are supposed to be the main source of learning, but I felt like she refuses to modernize her teaching material and expects you to pick up the slack.
she explain the material very well, but u need to do lots of work to success in this class. u hv to read lecture ahead of time, practice on the HW and the Worksheet in order to success in her exam.
Marjan is a tough but brilliant professor. Her classes require a lot of work, but she truly wants you to learn. Use Unstuckstudy and other resources to supplement her teaching - it can make all the difference.
I think she did a great job at teaching chemistry, her lectures were really clear and easy to keep up with. NOTE: Marjan is great but lab instructor makes or breaks Chem111a.
