rather boring lectures that have very little to do with very difficult exams. she pulls triva out of the text for questions. she is the sweet grandmother type.
Not a difficult class. Read the book, go to class and you'll do fine. Dr. Battaglia is a sweet professor who is excited about what she teaches. Exams are not hard at all! She goes quickly through slides but they come straight from the book.
She was a GREAT professor!!!!! I would love to have her again for class! I am a psychology major and it is kinda hard finding a good prof, but she is definately on my A-list

Really sweet lady who tries to be exited about the material. The lectures are somewhat boring but her material comes straight out of the book.(get a highlighter) Tests are okay.
She was actually pretty difficult...a REALLY nice lady though, so i didn't hesitate to ask her for help, and she was really happy to. The exams were a little tricky...but after the first couple, you get the hang of it.
Sweet lady. Lectures are boring and straight from the book. Personal insight is minimal and there are no class discussions. Such material needs discussion. Tests may be surprisingly difficult on account of their specificity. Was personally hoping for more with such an interesting topic.
She's probably the only professor I've ever had in psychology who really tried to connect with her students. She's very empathetic and gives a great deal of insight into continuing education in psychology. Some may misunderstand her, but she's just kinda shy that's all.
great class, teacher tries to make sure students understand material, doesnt try to make the class hard.
Marge is a tender woman. Her bows always match her outfit for the day. I gotta say though, the lectures are boring as crud; she reads slides directly from the text and you think you're flyin high until the exams, which display her intelligence, but the lectures dont really help. READ.
Alright, I change my mind. Had her for Personality Theory, which was ok, but avoid like the plague for cognitive. She can be very condescending and is about as helpful as a rock. She often explains things starting with "I thought it'd be pretty obvious..."
Her lectures were boring and she doesn't know how to teach. She just reads the slides and expects you to understand the material based on what she just read from the slide. If you ask her a question, she cannot elaborate and explain better. Would not take again...
easy class shows slides yes but they are helpfull slides don't even have to buy book. she has the slides on resere at library so if u miss class can still get notes don't even need to go to class. Great lady would take again
Very kind lady.
Great prof. that really looooves attachment! Exams are straight from the book and the slides, easy to study for.
She's the best psychology professor I have had in my three years here. She is very kind, and her tests are from her notes. I would take her again.
Does a good job overall. Interested in students. Take her if you get the chance -- her tests are from the notes and materials covered in class!!!!

Biopsyc is nothing to joke about... the class is very difficult and sometimes she's not clear about certain concepts. But if you ask her personally she will offer to help and as long as you go to class you'll be ok... do not skip lectures; you'll screw yourself over if you're a psyc major
If u study her slides u will be fine, probably get an A. She is a really sweet person, reminds me of my grandmother.
Easy to get along with. She pulls all of her test questions from her Power Point slides. Book is easy to read and understand. Overall she takes a difficult subject and makes it tollerable.
VERY easy tests with extra credit. You know what she's going to ask on tests since she gives you strong hints in class and puts those points in bold on the slides. Very nice.
She's not understanding and her idea of e.c. is writing a 5 pg. paper for ONE point...class has 4 tests for 100 pts and one e.c. for missing less than 3 classes. AVOID HER if possible. Class was more confusing than the book, she's not computer friendly, uncompromising, and very technical. You MUST have C- or better, good luck!
Very easy, 5 tests. Taken directly out of the slides, I didn't even need the book for the class. Also, One extra credit paper worth 5 points. Ignore the post before. The extra credit is 5% of your grade the tests are all worth 20 points each. EASY AND NICE! TAKE!!
Very friendly professor who really knows her subject matter. Showed interesting videos in class that enhanced the material. Her lectures are a little dry...she tends to read over PPT bullet points (which come sometimes verbatim from the text book). However, compared to the lot of bad profs out there, Dr. Battaglia is one of the better ones.
really easy, notes are online-don't bother buying the book, seriously. 5 tests, 20 questions. really easy. definitely try and take this teacher. i never ever study and i have a B+. she's nice too.
DONT BUY THE BOOK. The book I bought is still in its plastic shrink-wrap and is useless because she tests DIRECTLY FROM HER SLIDESHOWS that are available online. Her tests ask stupid questions, it might take a while to get used to it but theres 5 exams total. Have fun ;)
Lectures are basically powerpoints that you can print off from the Internet. Although people have said not to buy a book, you MUST...because her exams have gotten harder. There are four in all, no final. She's nice but doesn't like to argue about grades.
She uses powerpoint slides,which are posted online.For 211 her tests were really easy&straightforward (20 multiple chocie).For 231 her tests are 50 multiple choice,short answer,&essay (very tricky questions).She is a sweetheart&very helpful.There aren't any good e.c. options&the class gets boring.Overall I haven't had lower than a B in both classes
Helpful professor, softly spoken and sticks to her power point slides with no deviations. No real discussions, just a lecture class. MC tests with a couple fill in the blanks and two-four essay questions. Kind to students and very fair. Read the opening "story" to each chapter and show up to class and walk away with some additional knowledge.
boring
She is a really wonderful, kind person. She has a lot of fascinating experiences and knowledge to share-- great anecdotes expand on the material. Textbook reading isn't totally necessary, but helps reinforce the material. Attend the lectures and study ppts and your notes, and you're good to go.
Very lovely professor who lectures well and really into her the subject. Exams are a breeze so long as you review. Great to talk to and responds well to emails. Take her, she is awesome!! :D
Very Passionate about Child psychology, very sweet and easy going.
Shes's very sweet. I took her in the summer and barely did any work. Read the slides and You'll be fine. No need for the book
Take her and no one else for this class or you will not understand the material!!!!!!The class material is hard in general and her tests are straight from slides! if you go to class regulary she gives one point extra on your final grade! take her when you can!!!!!!!
BORING. very easy, does not try to fool you on tests which is good but material will put you to sleep. textbook unnecessary when i had the class in 2008
Class is not 2 hard! Don't let her scare you on the first day. No, you don't need chemistry or any other class in theory for this class. If you memorize all the PPT slides & do the online book exams you should be OK. Has 6 exams, 2 chapters at a time, all multiple choice, which get harder and less clear after the first one. Gave 2 study guides.
Very manageable class. Just pay attention in class and study the notes printed from E Library Reserve and you will succeed. I admire her happy and kind demeanor; it helps towards learning process. Never be afraid to approach her for help or anything.
She was ALWAYS energetic about the subject matter, & often saying "is this cool stuff or what?" She is a wonderful teacher! Extra credit: writing a paper & good attendance. 5 M/C tests that only covered 2 chapters at a time! If you read the book & pay attention in class you should do fine! PP slides available. Do the extra credit!
She grades on ALL tests, so STUDY, STUDY. PP exactally word for word from book. Use the disc that comes in your book alot of test question come from there. DO EXTRA CREDIT you will need it! Only 5 pts though. Take the lab you will do better. She is very energetic, for a dull class.
Great professor. The material is hard but she makes sure to explain in detail until everyone understands it. She is strict on her grading and doesn't give free points, but you get the grade you worked for. I think it was very fair grading.
One of my favorite teachers! She loves the subject and it really comes through in lectures. The textbook is definitely an easy read. You will do well on tests if you go to class
Energetic about the class, teaches it w/ passion. Looks down on absent students, hates emails unless u are a favorite student, changes exam dates w/o notice, shows unannounced DVDs that aren't available to check out. DVDs are vaguely discussed but 1 film had 3 essay quest on 3rd exam. Tst: Mult.choice & essay OR short answer depending on her mood.
Not as great as everyone makes her out to be. Very resistant to offer help or talk about tests. Class is boring..No need to read the book. Could have been better.
attention to details a must
She makes all the topics very easy to understand and is always willing to help when you have questions. She understands that the topic is sometimes confusing so she is willing to give you extra credit. Her tests go basically right off her notes and she goes over subjects numerous times that will be on the test so you are fully prepared.
I was so excited to take this class, but she sucked all the fun out. People dont go to her class, because it is so boring. She reads of the slides, and gives you all the slides, so why would anyone go. The test were hard, because they werent straight forward, either.I would take this course, but with another teacher.
Class was a bit boring, but what class isn't? She reads right from the slides, and the exams come from those exact slides. As long as you study you'll be fine!
Excellent teacher. Very smart, and loves the topic. Go to class and take good notes. The book helps. Slides are great, but you need to go to class to understand the slides. That is how you will pass. Don't miss class, because she won't help a student with poor attendance. She mirrors effort.
Great teacher. Makes sure students understand material, great notes, attendance not mandatory but extra credit if you attend class. I never bought the textbook, and I got an A in the class. This professor really cares about her students!
Nice lady. Speaks very slowly. Material is very tough and she does not do a good job of explaining. Not an easy A. You have to attend class. I would recommend taking her class. It is required for Psych Majors.
She's nice, but the class gets pretty boring. Exams are easy if you study the slides (and they're posted online). Overall a good class, and attendance isn't really mandatory - you just don't get one extra point added to your final grade if you miss more than 3 classes.
Talks in a monotone voice, but my interest in the subject kept me going. Attendance gives you extra credit. Tests are straightforward and from class/the powerpoints. Do the extra credit!
You really need to read the slides AND the textbook to do well on the exams. She speaks very slowly & in a monotone voice very early in the morning which might be hard to keep awake for. She provided better real life examples than the book but her exams do include some "critical thinking" questions that she throws in so answer carefully.
I have taken her for two classes so far: this one and physio. She is a wonderful teacher who uses real world examples to help make the material clear. I got A+'s in both of them. They require effort but you will learn a lot.
Very wise professor who has dry humor which is a major plus for a psyc class. Cute middle age lady. Provides personal/family examples through lectures, clear lectures, notes, and provides good powerpoints. Take her. BUT, useless through emails. :(
She is very knowledgeable in her subject and has great experience to share. PSYC 372 was NOT an easy class, but I learned a lot and enjoyed her teaching!
This professor always talks in a monotone and is SO boring. You don't understand what she's saying and goes off on random tangents. Plus her tests are hard and confusing. Overall, I would recommend to not take her class.
OMG AMAZING and such an inspiration to see her every day. she is a senior lady but she is so SOO CUTE!! the subject is HARD.. 4 exams, finals optional, 1 10 page extra crdt, class attendas 1% of grade and it makes a difference. show her u want to pass n u will pass. She is amazing!! TAKE HER hands down best one in the psyc dept
Adorable. Battaglia is passionate about her subject, but don't expect a riveting lecture. In fact lecture is not necessary, but definitely helps you to retain the material as she uses good examples to apply the material to. Tests will be on the slide shows, don't even bother with the book. Really nice professor and good class!
This professor is boring, and she talks with a monotone. She reads straight from the slides, and she doesn't add anything else in. It's not an easy class, and her tests are hard and confusing. I'd recommend that you take another professor for this course.
This class is so difficult and she doesn't make it any easier. She loves the material but she doesn't make it interesting. The exams are impossible, there are no other opportunities to increase your grade except a 10 pg paper and she will not assist you at all if you're having trouble.
Helpful, passionate, great professor. Just show you care and she will make sure you do well
I took psyc 211 my first class with Dr. Battaglia in the Fall of 2010 she is an amazing lady and teacher. She is so inspiring that I had to take two more courses with her
This is my second class with Dr. Battaglia the course is not easy. She is so structured that you stay on course through the whole semester her way of teaching makes you want to learn more from her.I look forward for her lectures. She is wonderful professor.
She uses powerpoints. Some lectures can be boring but the class is okay. Nice teacher. She is opinionated
The class is so easy. I didn't touch the textbook once and got an A on every exam just studying from her powerpoints. Plus, she has cute and relevant personal anecdotes to share for a lot of topics. Attendance is extra credit and final exam is optional.
Teacher is knowledgeable, and interesting, really cares about what she teaches, has slight tremble in her voice (distracting at first). Workload: 4 predictable exams, light reading, must memorize all the small details in ppts (numbers, chronology, definitions, names); one optional oral that counts as 5 extra points on the final grade. Hard work = A
I do not recommend taking her for physio. I've heard her developmental class is super easy, but that isn't the case for physio. Her tests are way harder than they should be and she makes it very clear on the first day that most people are not able to get A's in the class and a B is hard to get. I would recommend taking it with another professor.
There are good and bad points about her. Explains really well...slides are very helpful, the exams are mostly from there. Funny little lady, I liked her sarcasm =) but: Very strict about attendance and can be impolite about answering Qs sometimes. And be prepared for the content, it's not gonna be easy if you don't attend class regularly or read.
Book not mandatory - but book + PPT is a pretty good way to go. Found her interesting -- others have mentioned morning is not her best time but I was ok. Liked her grand kids and other stories. Blondish grandmother type who looks pretty good.
She's fine until you have to talk to her one on one. Absolutely refuses to discuss anything with you. She wouldn't even fix a scantron error on my test! Tests randomly went from easy to ridiculously unfair. It was a weird semester.
I thought that this teacher was pretty good. I attended class MAYBE 7 times, 6 of those days were "mandatory" and I got an A-. The final is optional, which is nice, the tests are really decent if you put in any effort.. a few hours before the test maybe-ppts are true to the test. She gives a 1pt extra cred to your final grade for good attendance.
Very nice lady. You should be able to get an A in the class with at least some effort. My only advice is to memorize specific numbers because they are almost always on the exams. For example, she wants you to know at what exact age a child develops a specific ability. With that information, you should succeed!
Dr. Battaglia is a good teacher, and her lectures are quite interesting. It helps that she accompanies most of them with stories. Tests come from then notes and the Taking Sides book, but you have to study really hard, because she throws in a couple of tricky questions. Depending on the sem, she may either do debates or make you write summaries.
THIS IS A HARD CLASS. If you think you will make a easy A you are mistaken. She makes it extremely harder than it already is. 4 exams (very hard) and a extra credit paper. Her exams are hard and asks detailed questions. She has lecture notes posted at the library site. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK!! TAKE THIS CLASS SERIOUS!!! Attendance mandatory.
She is the sweetest lady ever! You really don not need to go to class because her notes are amazing and will not mislead you on the exams. Attendance is for extra credit points. Do not buy the textbook or the taking sides book b/c she puts the info in her notes. Easy A and you learn sooo much! TAKE THIS CLASS
She is a great Professor!! If you are looking for an easy A then don't take her, but if you are looking to actually learn something, she is AMAZING! She is by far my favorite Professor this semester. Go to class and study hard! You will learn! 4 exams, cumulative optional final, one extra credit paper, takes attendance
4tests that come straight from the notes that are on ereserves didn't get the textbook. Final is optional. Go to class if you miss less than 3 you get a point added to your final grade. If you study and do the summaries/debates and go to class youll get a good grade. I got an a+
The course is not easy. Although attendance is not mendatory, you NEED to go to class if you want to get an A in this course! It wasn't easy to get an A but I actually learned a lot and she became my favorite professor at mason because of this course! she knows how to teach!
Dr. Battaglia is a sweet and wonderful professor. Her enthusiam to teach shows and makes you want to go to class. Her course work and personal experience is interesting and helps you learn the material. However, the tests are hard,so you have to study and read the book! Overall an interesting, effortful course.
Dr. Battaglia is a very nice professor. She uses power point for her lectures. I'd say 95% of her test questions come from those ppt slides which she makes accessible to all students. There is no reason not to get an A if you come to class and study the slides. Tests are multiple choice. There are no long research papers.
Although class could be a drag in the evening, her exams were super easy! Always take the evening section cause she won't make you present!
Dr. Battaglia has been my favorite professor at Mason! Her tests are tough, but if you go to class and study her slides you will do fine. Her enthusiasm and knowledge of the material made the class fun and interesting. She is an amazing teacher. If I could, I would take her for all my Psyc classes.
She was a very nice professor, but sometimes class could be a little boring. If you follow her notes, you will know everything for the tests, and she gives a lot of opportunities for a lot of extra credit.
She's very degrading, and always seems to repeat herself. Especially when doubting your capabilities to do well in her class. Exams are tough, you gotta really study the slide notes or you'll be lucky to get a B.
Dr. B was a challenging teacher but I have learned so much. She is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and wants you to do well. The 4 Exams are straight from the slides. And there is one optional research paper you can do for extra credit. This class is hard, but as long as you show up to class and study the slides for exams you will do well.
Dr. B was a very challenging teacher but you will learn a lot! It is not an easy class but as long as you study the slides and attend class you will be fine. There is 1 optional research paper you can do for xtra credit. 4 exams and a cumulative final (optional). Overall a fantastic professor!
The lecture was not very dynamic, but the professor is clear. The material is not very challenging, and there are some very interesting parts.
Even though she is passionate and knowledgeable about her subject, Her class is hard. Requires lots of study time. Lecture is DRY.
Even though this can be a challenging subject for some, Professor B really takes her time to make sure you understand the concepts. I thought it was a very interesting class, as long as you study her power points you will do fine.
The material is easy and she tests off her PowerPoint, so just study those (especially the stuff she bolds). However, we were extremely behind and she got frustrated any time we asked when something was due or when tests would be. She wasn't very organized when it came to snow days disrupting the schedule. But, it's an easy class.
She is rude, but her class is easy. Seriously dont like her attitude though, shes sarcastic and isnt really open to answering questions. However, she has a lot to offer.
Dry lecture her voice can be unbearable (old). Extra credit opportunities. 4 exams- 2 CHAPS each. She loves her subject and wants you to understand not always helpful but repeats for emphasis. Exams are straight from lecture slides she copies & pastes from textbook so its not that needed. Sign in sheet every class for attendance.
Great class. The professor makes it easy to understand the material, but you do have to read the textbook and her powerpoint slides. Her exams cover exactly what is on her slides. She's willing to answer questions and repeat what people don't understand. You can tell she is passionate about teaching the material.
She is a very difficult professor to follow in terms of lectures. She scares you into having a low expectation of yourself the first day. Very difficult and dry subject matter. She is however, very knowledgeable of the subject.
All exams were based off from her power points; so if you really study those you will definitely do well, plus your lowest test grade will be dropped. She gives out opportunities for extra credit, not that much, but its something. In her classes she either has summaries or debates. Thankfully my class did the summary, which were easy points.
Class is easy enough everything on exam comes from powerpoints online. Extra credit opportunities for up to 6%I actually think the debate made the class easier
This professor's lectures are dry as a bone. In my hour and fifteen minute class she wasted at least 15 minutes per class telling us how difficult the class is. If the class is so incredibly difficult and only bioneuro majors will scrape by, wouldn't our time be best spent going over the material for the whole class period
Don't take if you like being told you're stupid for 20 minutes each class. VERY interesting material just don't take this professor. Her voice is so old and annoying and lectures drag on and on.
Extremely Challenging class. Lectures are kind of dry. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. she is a huge help if you go to early and ask for it.... if not you will fade away.
Dr. Battaglia took a subject which I thought was going to be awful and made it actually enjoyable. She is big on attending class gives extra credit if you attend all but up to three classes and if you arrive early she has pop extra credit quizzes. I found her class to be hard but interesting.
I went to all the lectures and spent a solid 0 minutes spending any time studying for this class and still got an A. Her grading scale is weird and an A has to be a 95 or above but if you do the extra credit you get an extra 6% added to your final grade.. Most of the class was common sense and exam questions come directly off her powerpoints.
Difficult material but if you read the book and go to lecture it helps. Also go to office hours and ask for help, extremely willing to give help when students ask for it. Offers an extra credit paper and extra credit pop quizzes. She knows her stuff and really wants her students to do well.
Dr. Battaglia wants her students to succeed! She is very knowledgeable about what she teaches. The lectures are dry and boring, but her exams are directly from the powerpoints and she tells you exactly what to study. Can earn an extra 6% onto your final grade if you do the extra credit. An easy A if you attend the class and take the lab with it!
