Mr. A is funny and he makes the lectures interesting. He also allows you to do alot of extra credit which help your grades alot. His exams are not hard as long as you pay attention to the lecture and study. I would recommend this teacher to anyone even if you're not interested in anthro.
Very unorganized, digressed from topic and subject a lot. His handwriting on the board is very hard to read. Only one extra credit opportunity was given and it was a 6+ page paper.
very unorganized, makes classes so uninteresting, seems like he talks forever(non-anth talk that is), 1 xtra credit opportunity which was goin to a zoo to "observe" and describe monkeys behavior thru 4 hours :S and other species for 2-4 hours :s his hand writing is the worst, i dunno one student that could take good notes in his class.
This class is fairly easy so long as you take notes and pay attention to his study guides. As far as off topic comments, he does make them occasionally but MOST OF THE TIME he does tie them into an applicable cultural context.
He's a good professor, dont let bitter students give you the wrong impression. He breaks down all the key points of his lecture on the board before he starts class. His exams aren't difficult as long as you show up and do the study guides. There is pleanty of extra credit, he only expects you to put in some effort to earn it.
fairly ok... some lectures are way out of the book... boring... students starts sleeping when he starts.. maybe if you're majoring in anthro, i guess you won't have any problem with this teacher... exams are fairly easy anyway...
Mr. A is a tite teacher! i got an A in his class. his lectures are a bit long, but you do learn, and he does go over everything thats on the test. he gives great study guides. plus, he offers extra credit, which helps out A LOT! overall, a great teacher! he knows his stuff!
Great teacher, I registered late and ended up having to take this class, he's a funny, easy going teacher who gives helpful study guides. In addition he gives you lots of opportunities for extra credit. I failed a test and still got a B in the class. It is a science class however so you can’t **** your way through the class, you have to study
He genuinely loves anthropology and that comes across in his lectures (and tangents.) His lectures are very scattered, however, and you will need to talk to other students to be sure you have the all of the material that was presented. Do the study guides and read the text and the tests will be easy.
He is a great teacher. Talks a little too fast to take notes but just make sure you copy the notes he puts on the board in the beginning of class and read the book. Tests are easy if you do the study guides and study them.
He's very scattered in his lecturing style. He seems like a really nice guy and he's hard to not like, but he kinda sucks as a teacher.
AWESOME! i loved this class. its not easy but he's such a good prof. it doesnt matter. very motivational and you learn without even knowing it.
Loved this guy, he's very nice and makes the class fun. I recommend everyone to take him, you'll have a great experience and this class is really interesting. He gives alot of opportunities for extra credit, 3 testd and 2 essays, and I would recommened to attend every class, you may miss a lot of important info if you miss 1 class.
Fairly easy-going teacher. Just do the reading and the study guides and you're golden for the exams. His lecture is pretty straight forward. His writing is sloppy but he knows this so just ask him to clarify. His tangents seem off topic but he is really trying to give life examples that relate to Anth.
I would recommend this Mr. A to anyone, especially if Science is not your thing and you are just trying to fullfull your science requirement. It is very hard to make this subject interesting and enjoyable, but Mr. A has got it down!
Dr. A really knows his stuff. I've been impressed with his overall breadth of knowledge about all kinds of subjects, not just anthropology. And while I do agree that sometimes his lectures do seem scattered, they come together when one also reads the text and completes the study guides. He's often funny and makes the class interesting.
His lab is good and easy. The downside is that he uses up all the 3 hours for lecture and class assignments. But overall it's an easy grade. Don't miss class or you miss a lot of in class points.
he is easy...take him if you don't wanna go camping with Lo vatere or whatever her name is..the only bad thing is he took up all 3 hours of the lab!! so that kinda sucked but it is worth it cuz you can get an A..there is alot of in class points so dont miss class!! overall he is cool and easy to get an A!
It seems like he would be a good teacher to take a class from, however, if you decide to take his online ANTH class DON'T. He doesn't reply to emails until after the deadline and everything is disorganized. Overall- DONT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS!!!!
I recommend that you not take his class online. Grading wise it was good, but people had to email him 7 times until they got a response. The tests had nothing to do with the study guides!
Not helpful at all. He lectures quite a bit on things not related to the subject and not found in the textbook, but will be in the exam. He gives you extra points on definitions for study guides for the exam, but some of the phrases or words will not be found in the lecture or text book.
I guess his other classes are not as easy as his lab class...take his lab class it is an easy A!!
The physical anthropology lab is the easiest class at Cerritos, it is however painstakingly long. The class is 3 hrs, and he lets you go maybe 5 min. before if you're lucky. As long as you go to all the lectures and do the work, you are guaranteed an A. Classwork weighs more than the quizzes at the end, trust me.
I understand that Online Classes are supposed to be online, but there is no communication with the teacher whatsoever! I literally emailed him 20 times through the semester and he did not reply to one! Horrible teacher for such a hard subject! The only good thing is that he gives us easy extra credit! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He talks a lot and goes off subject. His test do not always correspond with the lecturs. Most teachers attempt to make the suject interesting...but I would never want to further pursue anthropology because of him.
Mr. A was an awesome teacher. I took him for Anth 100 & 115. His passion for the subject is obvious & so inspiring. Attendance is pretty important but his tests are easy if you listen in class. The study guides are a big help as well, so make sure you do them! I got an A in both classes which seemed almost effortless.
IF YOU LOVE & HAVE A PASSION FOR ANTHROPOLOGY, THEN TAKE IT BUT IF YOUR LOOKING JUST TO TAKE A CLASS TO CLEAR FOR GENERAL KEEP LOOKING, THIS GUYS IS VERY NICE BUT IS TO IN LOVE WITH THIS SUBJECT, GIVES 3 MAJOR TEST I BELIEVE JUST BET YOUR LIFE COUNTS ON IT TO PASS...
great professor. cool guy. class is not too hard if you go and pay attention. tests are alright
Great Professor... His class is really interesting and educational... However, if you do not like Anthropology or are just taking the class for General Ed requirements, I do not recommend him... He is a great Professor but his class is more technical then it is fun. Take him if you are an Anthropology Major.
His class for lab are fun, but the finale quizes get harder as they go. You can get a C just by attending and doning the assignments and doing okay on the quizes plus he gives out a lot of extra credit but you have to do some work to earn extra credit.
Good teacher overall..
I took the online anthropology 115 and it wasnt as bad as people said. The assignments werent hard. there are 3 group projects (very easy). The tests were a little harder but if you read its not a problem. The only thing that i didnt like in the class was the communication. He does not reply to emails. Take the class its an easy A.
Easy A...All the assignments are group assignments. Tests are not hard.
easy teacher, interesting and fun to listen to. didnt read a thing and only paid attention every other class and still came out with a b.
He is a poor communicator. He is difficult to look listen to at and to hard to understand. He treats Anthropology as a Religion. Strange teaching style.
great professor overall, but lacks organization. gets off topic easily and has to postpone exams sometimes. he offers tons of extra credit though and always has a positive attitude. definately take him if you love anthropology.
He's a good teacher and very passionate about his subject. I've learned a lot from his lectures, even thought he did go off topic sometimes. Lots of extra credit and many chances to get a good grade. Just follow the study guide and pay attention in class and you'll be ok.
Not a good teacher to take for first time anthropology class. He is so confusing and disorganized. The notes are a complete waste. On the first day he just started saying all these names for the apes and monkeys, omg, i was completely unprepared. I kept going to class and drinking red bull before class so i can stay awake. Dont take him.
Mr. A is a fair teacher, the work is hard but don't let that fool you, the extra credit assn. will totaly help if your not great at taking tests.
Had no idea what the guy was talking about the entire first week so i dropped.
THE BEST TEACHER EVER WHO LOVES HIS JOB!!!!!!!!!
Not a good teacher...he was soooo disorganized and his lectures were all over the place..on the first day of class he was getting his own life story mixed up..terrible..had to drop the class
EASY A!!! He's such a sweet and funny guy, well he tries to be funny. He's really nice and he really cares about his students. He's talks A LOT about himself on the first day I guess so we'll get to know him better. He's SO in touch with his feelings. All you gotta do is show up to EVERY SINGLE CLASS and COMPLETE THE CLASS work = A!
Completely in his own world. Unaware that some students are not taking the class because they LOVE it, but because it fulfills a requirement. Pushes tutoring even though everyone in the class I took pretty much worked full-time...and the reason is that he is completely unclear during lecture.
like the comment below said, he is really sweet and nice! Read the textbook! And don't miss class! He incorporates his life stories into the lectures quite a bit.
He is the most awkard teacher i have encountered on campus. His lectures are unclear and completely inrelated to the study guides. He doesn't use the text. He is just all over the place. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this professor.
He is kind of ADD, if you can get past his side notes that occur ever five minutes you will actually learn something. He is quirky. Class is not complicated but the material itself is def for those interested in evolution.
dont take this class if your not interested in it or if its your first college class. he is very passionate about what he does and sometimes gets off topic with his personal stories but. its no easy A
good teacher, hes really cool and will explain things to you if you dont understand. as long as you do the work you will do fine.
Took the online class, could not get response via email or phone. Nothing graded for a month.
OMG this class was seriously the most horrible. incomprehensible class that i have ever taken. First day of class he only talked about himself...always late to class and pretty much his notes were little to no help...class was almost close to empty at the end of the semester. Avoid this professor at all costs!
Absolutely fun to be around with! seriously! I loved the fact he was 5-10 mins late, it was very fun, he's so funny and always keeps you working till the end. his notes comes in handy as well as the book. I recommend him to any student out there! I'm definitely taking another class with him.
His class is very hard and confusing. He is always late to class, which sucks on test days because that's less time for the test. He does not follow the book, and his notes are confusing. He does not give hw.. the only two things that count for a semester grade are two confusing tests. I have an A in all other classes except his.
just took the physical anthro class this spring and i learned you better do the extra credit he offers. to pass his test you have to study your butt off but he offers enough extra credit to boost your grade to an A if you try. study study studY if you want to pass!
I had previously taking another professor for this class (Rigby); Abruzzese is easier to listen to! If you unsure of something ask him! He will help you! Easiness, is relative to the student. If you expect to get an "A" just for sitting in class, it's not going to happen. He gives extra credit and great study tips, use them and you get an "A"
Mr. A is seriously one of the best and most inspirational teachers I've had, and I've been thru university level. Learned so much in his class, not just about anthro but about life. He talks a lot cuz he has a lot of insight to give, even if he does go off topic sometimes. Overall, a GREAT prof. I always look forward to his first-day lecture.
i love his class. he is so nice and he does get off topic but if you are interested in the subject its alot of fun. he is ADD but if you pay attention he does make sense. you never really need his book unless you do the vocab also.
This guy is awsome. He makes the class really interesting, sometimes he is a little...weird haha but over all he's an awsome teacher.
This teacher is terrible, all he does is talk talk talk, and is incredibly boring. If you have a class with him from 7 to 10 pm you can bet your life he will not let you out before 10, ridiculous. I got an F in his class, few semesters later I took the same class with Rigby and got an A. Save yourself the time and take Rigby instead

he talks a lot but its interesting and its a super hard class but if u pay attention and do the reading and work you will pass.
This professor is amazing, yes I agree he talks alot but his lectures are very interesting and I love that he is passionate about what he does. I don't know what some people are talking about because his class is super easy! I got an A and I don't understand how you can't when he is extremely helpful and he gives you exactly what you need to pass h
Attending class from 7-10pm wasn't easy but I have to admit he is a very good professor and is passionate in his job, he does talk a bit but its quite interesting to listen to. I didn't do so well with test and I didn't think I would pass but to my surprise I did :)
He is a really passionate teacher. You can obviously tell he loves his subjects and his lectures are really interesting. He always tells us a story that seems like he's going off subject but it does go along with the subject. He thinks he's funny and always tries to tell jokes which is hilarious on its own. Great teacher, i failed on my own.
Took this class during the Summer one year. He talked about his dad too much...maybe some unresolved issues? Anyway, he was knowledgeable and he taught well. I would consider taking him again...just not in the Summer.
This class is very long, boring he comes 2 class about 10- 15 min. late evey class time only 2 quizzes, class work we go over so if u don?t do it on ur own don?t worry we go over it the people I sat by helped me get through it it was so boring I got an ?A? Thank God! 1 thing I wish he would do was really go over what was going to be on the quizzes
such an annoying class! he lectured nonstop for the full 3 hours (after arriving 15 minutes late). Sometimes would continue lecturing 20 minutes after class was over! the powerpoints were not helpful (only pictures). Never prepared you fully for his 3 exams. No other work except extra credit. By doing the extra credit, i was lucky to get a C.
Horrible lectures(info is ok, but organization is a mess),I am always capable regardless of teacher to pass a class no matter how difficult usually B or at least and this was the first teacher i failed(first F in college) His notes were everywhere and tests were alot different from what he had us study with no clear explanation of the info i needed
very good teacher, knows what he is talking about, very enthusiastic and helpful but the test are very orthodox. have to attend his class and MUST read all the chapters and really study for his test. overall great teacher.
Most boring teacher on campus. Earned an a in this class but he was very unclear. Very unorganized and is not direct to point. Do not take his class the other woman professor I heard is more fun.
Taking this course online with this teacher is a big no no,especially for those who aren't familiar with online courses. Syllabus and some contact info are out of date by several years, and he never responds to emails. Quite a few students posted via bulletin board that they couldn't get a response from him. Assignments/tests were easy though.
He is ALWAYS late to class about 15 minutes. His tests are never on his study guides, so don't bother actually studying them, just do it for the extra credit. If you see him in his office hours he can help you out. Study 2 of the 3 exam questions, always works out. His notes are everywhere, but you need to do some digging yourself. Very nice man
Awesome teacher, idk what the rest are talking about, His notes are very understandable but u also must read the textbook. I took his class 2 times and will take another class with him. he's fun and inspiring. His forensic class inspired me to choose my career!
One of the best teachers i have ever had! He inspires you to want to learn when you see how much he still loves anthropology. Always willing to help and has a good sense of humor you just have to pay attention :) i am taking him again this semester because i enjoyed the last class so much
Talks way too much about his PERSONAL life, talks about POLITICS and how bad the opposing party to his views are, very unorganized lectures, arrives 20 minutes LATE every single class. . . would not take his class again
Although passionate, he talks way too much about his personal life, something I don't care about! It's all about him. I've never had a teacher cut me off or talk over me so rudely either, until I met him. Leaves no time for class discussion or anything other than lecture. Boring!
A real fun teacher and really loves the subject i enyed the class
what a joke teacher...arrived 30 min late every class...talks about his life like we give an F. don't take
He was ALWAYS late and then spent 75 of the class time he was there talking about himself. His entire class is vocab and he gives 200 words per vocab section.
You have to be on top of the material, 115 was extremely difficult. I somehow managed to get an A, but you should probably email him to kiss butt. Best ANTH teacher available though, love his classes and small anecdotes. Usually 15 mins late, so you can lay around or come late.
hes a pretty cool professor, just talks a lot about his outside life. you really have to do your own studying outside of class to pass! he is always late to class.
Took his online class, was not helpful, took forever to respond to emails. Exams are beyond hard but that is probably due to the subject matter. But otherwise was an engaging class, where you actually have to write papers weekly, as oppose to other online classes.
Prof A loves his field. He is chill, enthusiastic and makes the difficult subject matter interesting. His lectures are scattered but as long as you take notes, pay attention and do the reading you should be fine. I got an A and thought it was a hard class! His study guides are extra credit so do them. He is late to class but so am I so it work out.
he is a great teacher, i think i fell in love with him haha
This teacher love this job but he is all over the place during lecture. Taking notes will not be easy. You should also prepare to get a huge list of more than 200 terms and you have to guess which 50 terms will be on the test. If you like teachers who are very organize dont take this class.
I am now an Anthropology major and it has alot to do with this man. He is one the the most passionate, educated, and interesting professors I have ever had.
Really nice Professor. He is really interested in helping his students understand the material and tries his best to help everyone pass. Always shows up 10-15 minutes late! Even on test days! He also gets side tracked during his lectures. He does give out study guides which are a bit long but REALLY helpful! I would take him again!
Great professor, he has a love for his field and knows his material. good humor. class is easy as long as you pay attention. really helpful and gives an opportunity to get extra credit throughout the course. i would take this professor again if i had to.
Super nice guy, really enjoys teaching Physical Anthro. Enjoyed talking to him after classes and such, subject is even a little bit interesting. But the study guides are hard core with around 300 terms for each test + essay Q's. DO NOT CRAM FOR HIS CLASSES. I learned my lesson! Listen during lectures and read book and you should do fine
Really awesome teacher, very kind and sweet. Extremely knowledgable about the subject. 3 tests w/ plenty of ec available. Do the study guides, and read the book, and you'll ace the tests. Wish I hadnt taken him, because i decided to change my plans and become an anthro major instead! If you want an easy A, this isn't it. You do need to work.
I was not interested in Anth when I first took his class, but he is so passionate and well spoken that that immediately changed. I have even taken one other class. Has a lot of notes but does not cover everything because he wants you to use the book. His essay questions are not that difficult and study guide is only time consuming, but its just ec.
Very interesting subject, however in this class, specially with this teacher, you have no time for spare. It is required to dedicate most of your day while taking this course studying. The test are very difficult and hard to pass if you do not put most of your effort in studying. Class notes are hard to understand and are most visual. Study hard!
He is full of character and it was a pleasure to take his class. His class is difficult and I suggest that you definitely read the book and take notes. He encourages to ask for help. Just don't slack off or you will fall behind.
He was not boring at all but he did talk A LOT! He obviously loved his job very much but would get off topic quickly. Made sure we had a study guide with maybe 100 vocab words! His tests were not as he described them to be. So not cool!!
Professor Abruzzese really does know his stuff, but its not an easy class. You will have to work hard and earn the grade you want. He does grade on a curve which may help a bit.His class is not impossible to pass with a C.Learn your terms and read, read, read. Good luck!
cool guy, gets off topic a lot. very funny (reason i would go), knows and loves the topic. Take notes, read the book, and do extra research. His notes are not the best.
He is a cool teacher but gets off topic too much. He also writes very sloppy on the board so it's hard to write notes. The class seemed interesting but it was hard to comprehend with his teaching style. I would not recommend him at all to anyone.
I took him for 115 lecture and it was the hardest class ever. But then I took him for Lab 115 and it all wen great. Class was interesting and to pass the class you just have to show up to class and do the group works.
Overall it was a pretty easy class. Just show up and do the work. Only problem was trying to read his writing on the board but other than that I had no problem.
Prof. Abbruzzese is one of your typical professors. He leaves the sole responsibility of learning to you. However, he is very passionate on what he teaches and is readily there to help you. The notes can be a hassle as they are mostly picture's but you might not need the book if you know basic Antrho. Other than that his class is very eye opening.
run...no seriously RUN! confusing his exams are based on manushia....RUN!!!
Amazing teacher who is ALWAYS there for his students. Can often go off on tangents not necessarily relating to the subject matter, but nevertheless fun. Very knowledgeable in terms of anthropology and culture. Most research is done in the reading, but immensely supplemented by the lectures. Wonderful man who truly cares about your success.
Abbruzzese was the coolest teacher I have ever had. His hair flows in the wind when he walks into class. Talks about his life experiences in class which are very interesting. Would recommend taking him.
Lectures are long and sort of boring but nice guy.
Horrible Teacher! Gives you information overload and the tests are about 20% on his lecture the rest is from god knows where! no HW so grade is based off your tests and 2-3 small point extra credit assignments. Also talks A LOT about politics and while not blatant, he also religion bashes. IMO he indoctrinates not teaches.
Warning do not take this class. Ive always been good at school and let me tell you this guy is horrible at teaching. Your whole grade is based on test that are made up of questions that could all possibly be right but at the same time could be wrong at the same time. He also gives out a study guide of 200+ words that dont help at all.
I will be honest. I took him at another institution. He really know's his stuff, he has many useful life experiences to share. His lectures are great. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE ANTH AND YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EASY A THEN DO NOT TAKE. THE TOPIC OF PHYS ANTH IS FULL OF SCIENTIFIC TERMS AND HEAVY MATERIAL. With that said I am glad I had him as an instructor.
Talk too much and focus out of topics a lot of time
Took Abbruzzese for Phys Anthro and I got a B in his class. He's that character-like community college prof that loves what he teaches & is dedicated as all hell. Much respect. When I had to enroll in a lab I chose his, even though it was full and I had to late add, I knew he'd be helpful and he is! Plus he's super funny. Fun times + learned lots!

He teaches mainly by example rather than the big picture. That means that his lectures are filled with fluff and personal stories and his tests are on incredibly specific pieces of information. Too bad he's the department chair because I don't want to take him again.
i had to read the textbook in order to understand what he was speaking about from time to time. sometimes his lectures make no sense and he gets off topic a lot. he talks a lot about his personal experiences which is really cool. all in all he's an awesome dude, with awesome hair, and i would recommend him as a teacher.
Your grade is pretty much only 3 exams BUT if you do ALL of the extra credit (and plenty is given) then you will be fine. Also, attendanceparticipation is almost 20% of your grade.
This was a hard class, but I got a C for the semester, what saved me were all the extra credit options. I joined the anthropology club (most students didn't) and earned over 30 points of extra credit, without that, I might have gotten a D in the class. The club goes to museums and a trip to San Diego which I wrote about. Join the anthro club!
do not take him, i am not kidding half of the class droped because of his test trust me do not take this guy he is cool and every thing but he needs to work on the study guide by him covering what is on the test and not give vocab that you wont need at all in the exam
Great teacher, fun class. You learn so much in his class. You have to study a lot of hours for this class. If you try hard you'll get an A. Best thing to study off of is the study guide, make sure you do all of it and study it and you'll do fine.
he is a tough cookie
Lectures are all over the place Goes on rants about politics and bashes religion 70 percent of the time His tests are hard His study guides are basically vocab but his tests are on specific information and topics mostly from lecture which like I said, are all over the place But as a person he's really chill and down to earth so there's one pro!
Do not take this class if you have a hard time paying attention. All of the extra credit he offered saved my grade.
This class was very hard only because there were only three tests. He assigns a lot of extra credit which brought me up a whole grade. I LOVE him as a person, as a professor he's like meh.
Overall a great professor. Really enjoyed his class and lectures. Lots you can learn from him. His classes are only tough if you don't study. His extra credit is always fun.
His lectures don't reflect the exams at all. Often goes on a tangent and although it's entertaining, it doesn't help your course grade. I like him as a person, not so much as a professor.
He is the best professor I have ever met. Anthropology is a very hard subject and he tries his best to explain as much as possible. Not lots of homework. Just read the chapters, do your study guide and focus! during class.
His class is very easy going and fun until you get the exam and you have no idea what is on it because his lectures were full of his interesting life stories and rants about republicans. He is a nice and smart guy but there is no type of organization to his teaching. I have no idea how I got an A.
His exams base on: lecture & study guide. **Focus on his lecture more, and read your book relating to his lecture. Take advantage on "Extra Credits" it will help your grade. ** Attend class - mandatory. If you are a serious student, then, you'll do fine & pass!! I did! Even took this class in the summer session, and it was fast paced!
He had MANY stories that made his lectures engaging. He doesn't provide study guides so if you're not taking notes and paying attention then you won't pass. Honestly, if I didn't enjoy his ramblings I probably wouldn't recommend him to other people, but I enjoyed them so I tell everyone to take him. Failed his 100 but got a B in Anthro 205!
While Professor Abbruzzese's lectures were interesting, it rarely reflected the material he was teaching. I found myself constantly anticipating relevant materials in his lectures which were only little blips in a mesh of political rants and anecdotes. He's a cool guy but not the best teacher.
You have to pay attention to lectures a lot of the materials on the test are from lecture, even if it is the smallest part of information, it will BE on the test. I've taking about 5 classes with him, if not more and I'll continue to take his class. Test are relevant to information, lectures are heavy but interesting.
Good Professor but late at times and has heavy lectures that are written unorganized and sloppyDo extra credit and study guides
Professor Abbruzzese was usually late for the class about 10mins each day, that lead the class being longer. He gets off topic so reading the book is necessary. The tests are mainly based on his study guides, which are also extra credit, however, I found easier to take notes from lectures and study from that. the book is necessary for the study guide
Okay, 3 points to pass the course: 1. get the book 2. do 80-100% of the extra credits (this will help a LOT) 3. ask his permission to record the lectures. I did, he said yes. Recording his lectures helped a lot as he speaks so fast. Take a pics of his lectures on the board and ppt and when studying, play the recording and the flow will make sense
Professor Abruzzese can seem scattered in lecture but it actually all ties in to the material, dont get me wrong he will go on a tangent or two nonetheless he ties it back into anthro. if you plan on transefering to a CSU or UC this class gives you a taste of what the lectures and seminars are like. tests are mostly lecture based
Worst teacher ever. Late and ends class late. Just don't take him
Beware students! He likes to rant about Trump for most of the class period depriving you of the education you seek. You will not be prepared for the university taking him. The material on the test is different from his lectures and textbook. If you want the definitions for his study guides good luck to you. His extra credit won't save you either.
Im an anthropology major and I thought since he teaches all these anthropology classes that he knew his stuff really well but hes goes off topic too oftentimes I dont think he prepared me at all for my career. I need a teacher not a guy who just rants and goes on tangents. Course material wasnt the same on the test. Extra credit wont save you.
I didnt have a good experiance with him. Make sure to read the book.
Just didn't like this class. Scattered teaching. You can definitely pass if you study hard and do all of the extra credit.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM please save yourself! He has the messy lectures and unclear explanations. Ive never failed a class in my life until now. Even if you read the book, do the flashcards, and prepare as much as you can with his fast-paced, sloppy lectures, you still will fail. Hes always late, talks way after class ends, and doesnt help.
Awesome professor! Lectures tend to get boring and a little off track, but he knows his material extremely well. Really nice guy, and he offers lots of clarity and help for those who ask for it! No homework but lots of reading if you want a good grade
His lectures are all over the place. It is not very clear at times and he rambles a lot. He shows up late and extends the class past its time. However, he knows his stuff. Although he rambles it (usually) applies to the material. He offers extra credit (DO THEM) and only grades by 3 exams. Tests were mainly based off the lecture but still read.
Prof Abbruzzese makes it very easy to get an A, because he clearly lays out what to do. He is super nice and caring and will explain anything that you dont understand however many times you need it, without getting mad or impatient He offers extra credit, and his lectures are very entertaining and extremely funny!!! So entertaining!!!
I got an A in this class. Criteria is clear and totally doable, there are no mysteries. This class was the opposite of boring, so if you have a tendency to drift off, no worries, you will be paying attention without even trying because the professor is extremely funny, which makes the material more interesting and easy to remember on tests.
Dont take Prof. A for ANTH 115/115L. Save yourself. Please. He gives you 180-200+ terms as a study guide. He expects you to define these terms yourself and study them (this is extremely unrealistic). I more than likely will have to withdraw from this course. I shouldve dropped sooner. His lectures are unorganized. Hes nice and funny though. :/
Getting an A in ANTH 115L is easy, mainly just showing up and participating will get you an A. If you werent able to get an A in this class, you shouldnt be in school.
ANTH 115 is a biology classit fulfills the biology requirement so requires a normal amount of effort for such a class, but definitely nothing out of the ordinary. Getting the 180-200 terms list from the prof was a godsend-it tells you exactly what will be on the tests (60 Qs).so itmakes your studying time shorter. Easy to get an A from doing this
Started this class off with an F, but somehow I ended up with a C once I actually prepared myself for the final exam. If you want to pass then read all of the assigned chapters and highlight anything related to the study guide. Turn in all of the extra credit. If I were you, I'd write the answers to the essay questions before the actual exam.
Record lectures, take photos of lecture slides, read all of the chapters and highlight anything related to the study guide/notes. Don't feel overwhelmed by all of the terms on the study guide. Instead, define the ones that he mentions the most. Had I done this before I probably would have earned a B or even an A. Write essays at home. Turn in EC.
I only missed 3-4 classes, which is why I didn't receive an A. If you show up to all of the classes and complete the group assignments, as well as the HW then you'll be fine. I did terrible on the last 2 quizzes, so turning in the EC papers definitely helped. Try not to miss, but if you do only miss 3-4 classes and make up those points with the EC.
Hes a very nice professor and has a lot of great stories but thats just the problem! He get off track a lot and his lectures are extremely unorganized. He writes really small and messy on the board throughout the lecture and you cannot read it if youre sitting in the back. Easy grader but wouldnt take again.
His lectures honestly are no good. The power points are the bare minimum with little to no information besides a picture. He grades hard. His study guides consist on 100+ vocab words. The text book does not contain everything you need to know for his exams. His exams are difficult because he does not prepare you for it.
Excellent professor. After the semester had started, class had to switch to online bc of covid, however, he made this transition easy as possible. Very flexible reasonable & caring, provides as much explanation as it takes to help you understand and doesnt get annoyed. I dont do well in online classes and was worried about failing, but got an A
This is a fun and easy class! Definitely take it! Prof is nice and helpful, and I am going to take the other classes he teaches.
Do not take this class it will effect your GPA. He gives you study guides to complete for each exam, but some of the words are not found in his books, lectures or online. He takes tests you on materiel that he has never caught. If you have a question about something he tells you to google it. He is no help, there are better professor. Take my advice
Great class great professortake him! Everything you need to know for getting 100% on tests is in the materials. And if you are unsure of anything you can just ask him, hes very helpful and wants you to succeed.
Hello, i took anthro 100 this summer, the class consist of the three exams, discussions post, and extra credit. This is poorly structured the study guide exam guides are 100 plus definitions. About 10% percent on exam others dont seem to coorrelate. I did not have a good experience i wont recommend. Its so unorganized. LACK SUBSTANCE. do not take.
Took this class to fulfill the biology requirement, and glad I did. The easiest way to do well is follow the study guide, it matches key terms in the book and in powerpoints. Also do extra credit assignments and try to space them out so youre not doing them all at the end. I did,and easily passed but it would have been easier doing them uncrunched
His online lab class is so confusing. Weekly quizzes are laughably easy but is extremely picky with the written assignments. The lecture slides he provides are so confusing and sometimes have nothing to do with the quizzes. Dont bother buying the textbook. Do not take his online lab!!
The anthropology class was okay, not hard if you pay attention and take notes
Honestly just avoid him. Half the class dropped because his lecturers arent really useful and dont help on the exams at all. This class really backed me up. Should of listen to his rating. Very disappointed.
The class is exciting learning about different cultures, the material is a little bit difficult at times, but prof A is very helpful at explaining things. I appreciate the extra credit opportunities. Info for getting a good grade is clear and reasonable. Take prof A!
I had Professor Abbruzzese for online physical anthropology and had no difficulty. Assignments are not too time consuming or overbearing. As long as you have a general understanding of what is going on in the class you'll be fine.
He's a really cool teacher, super fun and interactive, and always willing to help you if you don't understand something! But he writes and teaches like a mad scientist; he's hard to understand. Prepare for the confusion of your life and I hope you pass
The exams were a little hard although I found the essay part of the exams pretty easy. The extra credit is definitely a life saver. I took this class in the summer & it was kinda hard theres so much information to learn in so little time. You definitely need to study for this class the professor is always quick to respond & polite.
Professor Abbruzzese has by far some of the best lectures I've ever heard. He's very passionate about the subject and that really shows in the quality of his lectures. If you struggle with and/or dislike science, he might just be the person to make it interesting for you. I wish more professors had that much enthusiasm. Study and you'll be fine!
Professor Abbruzzese is one of the most enjoyable and nicest professors I have had during my time so far as a college student. Not only does he want everyone in the class to succeed but he also wants everyone to enjoy the class. He is genuinely interested in his subject and provides clear and logical explanations.
He tells you to write to write short answers for the assignments but when he gives you feedback he tells you you are missing stuff or incorrect. He tells you to download the lab and says it help with the assignment but it does not. Don't take him he always gives half points Always saying that the student is wrong Mostly textbook work
Slides not very informative, mostly pictures without captions. No lectures. There's four tests, and they're somewhat difficult. Other than that, the only other graded assignments are discussions.
don't take his class
At the beginning, there's a requirement to purchase a $50 virtual lab/textbook but it wasn't technically neccesary as I never purchased it and I never had any true reprecussions. As an online class, there were four assignments per week, two quizzes+two five question assignments per respected lecture. An okay teacher but wouldn't highly recommend.
Professor is a nice but he is always late to class and always talking past the end of class. Lectures are more of him talking about what he wants to instead of making sure everything on the test is covered. He constantly side tracks about how he hates Trump and religion everyday. It's ridiculously annoying. Don't buy the textbook&Take another prof.
Course/assignment instructions were scattered and unclear. His PowerPoints are just messy information dumps alongside pixilated, blurred, and warped visual examples. Assignments are difficult to locate/access due to irregular structuring in Canva. Before the first assignment was even due it was too late to drop the class w/o a "W" or get a refund.
If you need to take a anth lab take dia Flores she is a better professor
I'm taking forensic anthro. and he is the only professor teaching this course. He talks past class time and his PowerPoint aren't easy to comprehend so I had to learn everything from textbook. His slides are mostly pictures without captions. I personally wouldn't take him again. Although he has big enthusiasm which is really great
Prof A is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about anthropology. Also goes out of his way to help you. I went into this class not knowing anything about the subject, and now I have decided to make anthro my major.
The professor you want out of the department. Very boring lectures. He has a huge enthusiasm for anthropology, which I respect, but he isn't an effective professor. The exam averages between a D and a C grade. Read and study information from the textbook because his PowerPoint slides aren't helpful sometimes.
I got an A in this class. Prof makes it easy because he makes the class interesting and also does an extremely helpful review before the final exam. This prof is also the chair of anthro and happily provides guidance and answers to all anthro related questions, including the route to successful tranfer to university when the time comes
This class is exam-heavy. Lectures did not really help, but when it came down to it, the textbook is your friend. Also, if you think about missing class, I'm letting you know that his attendance and discussion grade are worth 70 points, so beware.
I only took his lab class. He is usually 10 mins late. Lectures feel long, he writes messy on the board, & sometimes goes off topic. U work in groups to do weekly lab assignments. U only take 4 quizzes towards the end of the semester which can be challenging if u dont study. U have to memorize different types of bones & their parts. He is helpful
This professor did not do weekly assignments so you could learn something from the online course. He did alot of discussions and 3 exams that were really hard. He gave you study guides per each exam. The study guides were not helpful. The extra credit was a lot of work but you need to do it to help you pass this class. Choose another professor.
The best professor I've had so far! His lectures are awesome and will really make you retain information. He has a great sense humor that really makes you pay attention. Exams, quizzes, etc. very accurately reflect his lectures, which makes them very easy. If I were you, I would not hesitate to take his class
Such a fun professor, he makes the class easy to understand and entertaining. Definitely recommend!
Professor is very knowledgeable and cares a lot about students. Very straightforward class with lectures every class. The book helps with the quizzes and exams so study the book and youll be fine. All online quizzes including the final online.
Great class, probably the best I've had since I started. Will definitely take more of this prof's classes, and might end up majoring in anthro
Professor is engaging and makes the material interesting. Lectures are helpful, but the textbook is key for quizzes and exams. Attendance is mandatory and a big part of the grade. Unstuck study AI was a game-changer for my exam prep.
Prof Abbruzzese is truly such an amazing professor! He speaks with a lot of enthusiasm which makes you want to learn. Before this class I was not a fan of anthropology, but I have become one! He is very nice and straight forward with what he expects from the class. You do have to take a lot of notes but it's very doable. I definitely recommend him!
Mr A is really informative. His lectures are funny and entertaining. He cares about his students and their success. Not much homework but lots of group activities for labs. Class attendance is a must because they count as points. Only flaw is he doesn't post the homeworks on canvas. Otherwise he is a really good professor.
