Great teacher. He tells you on the first day of class that most of the students did bad last quarter but if you study and take the time to listen you will understand. He always takes time to answer questions and makes sure you understand.

Not a bad teacher. Kinda hard, but funny. Gives pop quizes, a midterm and a final. Mostly just pay attention and do the homework (which is not collected). But really do the homework because otherwise you won't understand the work.

make sure you go to class and take notes, otherwise you wont do well on any of the exams. I think the class was pretty hard and i didnt follow him that well. Its a really hard class tho.

Cost accounting is just tough. Alford does a pretty good explaining it and will help you out if you need it. Midterm was long as hell though.

A lot of people in my class didn't like him, but I think it's because they didn't do the homework. I thought he did a very good job teaching. He wrote everything on the board so it was easy to take notes. Overall, a good teacher.

Do not take HIM! Stay away from him at all costs. He is extremely hard and could care less about his students. His tests are impossible and not many people pass his class. Do not take him.

My advice to you is to stay away from this teacher. He is very knowledgable but has incredibly high expectations for a class of non-acc majors. Pop quizes/midterm/final very hard. Doesn't curve scores or offer extra credit of any sort.

He's awful. 15 students out of 40 FAILED his FIRST test. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!! The only reason I got an A was because I took financial accounting in high school and I already knew what I was doing. If you know nothing about accounting, stay away!

The hardest professor I took at Depaul. He starts off class by telling his students that he failed 30 out of 45 the previous semester..and he is not kidding! If you are a first time accounting student, you are bound to fail, stay absolutely away from him!

Very hard, if you don't study at least ten hours for the midterm and double that for the final, don't bother taking the class. It is extremely challenging, but he does teach the material very good, but you have to know your stuff. By no means is this a blow off class.

Okay...he explains things clearly and well...he even seems like a pretty cool guy...but god...when he gets you on the final, he gets you. it was unbelievable. he took the material and made it ten times harder. good luck if you have to take him.

he's a nice guy and a very good instructor. but, man, wait for the final - that's was insanely hard. doesnt' get harder than that, unless your flipping through larry flint's material. seriously, though his final is soooo painful. study for 20 hrs if u can, cause the 12 hrs i put in weren't enough.

This guy's an idiot, a lot of the students in the class seemed to know more than he did. We had to correct him on multiple occasions. The Class wasn't that hard, but tests were very long, and his grading is very subjective.

He is one of the best professors at DePaul. I highly recommend taking him. He is very organized. There are no surprises on exams. He gives a midterm, final, and 2 homework assignments. Go to class, pay attention, take notes... you will do fine!

He is a good professor and is very clear in his lectures. The hard part is remembering all of the material. You really have to keep up with the homework and not leave it to the night before the exam. Overall, this class requires a lot of work.

He had good notes& lectures However his were the hardest tests i have ever taken I went to every class, did all the homework, and study for about 25 hrs for the final and i ened up with a 69 % which he didnt round to a C I would not recommend taking him unless you want to take it again!

Im not going to lie he is REALLLy hard with his tests, but overall I learned alot. Hes style of teaching takes a little getting used to, but its not to hard to understand. Be prepared to study ur brains off.

Very good professor! He explained material very well. Go to class everyday and pay attention. Study your notes and BRIEFLY look over the chapters. I only did the required assingments, studied the day before the exam for a few hours, and I got an A. Be ready to take the longest final ever! Don't try to be the first one to finish! Loved him!

I wouldnt listen to other comments about Alford. i think he is awesome. He is a conceptual thinker and wants you to think of the big picture and not just on formulas. That makes him really intelligent.Im not sure how i ended up in the class yet but It wasnt that easy but come on it wasnt so hard, you can pull of at least a B in acc 350.

I am in the honors program and I barely got thru this class. I wanted to cry my eyes out after both the midterm and final. He knocked some people out of the honors program. Soooooo ****ing hard. Worst teacher. He is a black spot for Depaul, especially graduate level course. He is not fit to teach any course. His exams are horrible and he talks one thing and does completely opposite. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. AVOID HIS CLASS AT ANY COST...

Don't listen to the previous comments. Alford is probably the best accounting professor I had out of six classes. He is extremely clear and will help you out when ever you need it. Before the final exam he even had a special study session and stayed for 3 hrs (even when there were only a few students.) Not very easy, but you'll learn alot.

Alford is hard! He is very intelegents and knows accounting well. I had to put in all my time and afforts. He is extremely fair in his grading. The grade you receive in his courses truly reflects your knowledge. Highly recommended!

Alford is a very nice guy and very willing to work with students. His grading is not difficult and very fair. His tests are open book and open notes, but extremely difficult. Students that go into the final and midterm without studying will not do well. Also, the exam questions are straight out of the class notes.

After taking the class, I must say that he is a really good professor. Explains the material well & is organized. The midterm & final were very hard, but it all depends on how much time and effort u wanna put into studying. The problems on tests are similar to what he covers in class. Take good notes it will prepare you for the midterm, final

This guy is nuts.. doesn't understand that we don't have doctorate in accounting like him. EXTREMELY difficult tests and go way beyond what he teaches in class. He is a fair grader but you must study REALLY hard for an A. I studied A LOT and came out with a B.

One of the most challenging Accounting professors I've had. One of the few classes where you actually have to understand the material. His tests are difficult and time consuming but if you take good notes you should have no problem. Great professor - its just that pepole have to work for their grade.

Clear and Organized Professor. Take this teacher if you're a visual learner because he writes his notes on the board. Tests (2) are difficult. He has pop quizzes, don't be late to class! Otherwise he won't let you take it. 2 spreadsheet assignments which is very time-consuming, but help a lot.

solid, "old school" professor who expects you to review and study. be advised: know your stuff before going into exams. saw a couple of actual accountant types who found this class more of a challenge than they anticipated. given the expense of grad school, this level of strict is a great thing. my "B" felt like an "A" when all said and done.

Great Accounting professor. Very clear and detailed explanations. Pop quizzes, usually once a week, but they are not difficult;will definitely do well with brief review of class notes. Midterm and final-somewhat challenging, but not very difficult with some studying. Gives homework for practice, but does not collect it. Highly recommended!

Exams are hard so study. Everything is from notes and lectures. He doesn't use scantrons so study well the problems. A lot of group work & individual work. He is a very good teacher.

Wow...this is a hard course! if you are into accounting, this class will define whether you really like accounting or not! attend class, take notes,and you'll be good for the quarter. at 1st you might not like it, but when you get out, youll be like, "wow...he is a very good professor." he really knows the material. take him, you'll learn a lot.

One of the best acc professors, if noy the best at Depaul. I really enjoyed his style of teaching. He had negative comments when he was going through his divorce but now he seems to be much better and happy.

Best teacher I've had so far. Very energetic and fun. Clear explanations. The assignments are hard, but if you apply yourself, you will get an A. Midterm and final have the same format: some long problems based on the material and some short answer questions.

Seriously good luck with his exams. He asks nothing but CPA questions. I'm surprised he didn't ask us to study out of a CPA bank, because had he done that, I probably would have ended up with an A.

Excellent professor...one of best Accounting teachers FOR SURE! Teaches material very helpful for the real-world. He makes you work for your grade, so expect weekly assignments and to spend at least 1 hour per week.

Alford is very demanding. His tests are extremely difficult. You never know what to expect. You literally have to know everything about your homework and class discussions. He is fair if you come to class every time. He is helpful but the class consumed my life.

No doubt Alford class is difficult, but those that do not think they can pass or get a decent grade are crazy. This is the class that actually made me proud to graduate from DePaul and I am glad that he made it difficult.

5 group presentation, 3 individual, 4 written group assign, midterm and final all in 10 wks. Each asign will take you 20hrs. He grades HARD with no curve. Feels there are no perfect scores. Class avg was 66% no curve. If the quarter was longer this class might be possible. He is the ONLY teacher for this class - WE ARE SCREWED!

Such a hard grader! Does not like anything less than perfect. He edits each and every sentence of anything you turn in. Many assignments and most are group-work. Assignments are tough but exams are mostly memorization.

This guy will fail you in a second. The mid and final are literally word for word from the notes.. you have to memorize them! The highest grade you can get is a 97% even if perfect. He will punch holes in everything you do and lower ur grade... there is no other choice for this class.. pray to pass! 3/4 of my class were taking for the 2nd time.

He is a great professor, the class is very interesting though requires you to put a lot of work and effort into it, but what would you expect it is an accounting class after all! Final is easier than the midterm for sure, so don't drop it after first five weeks!

This is class is not as bad as people make it seem like. The material is pretty simple, it is just basically memorization. I took this over the summer and worked fulltime at the same time and still got an A. Memorize the parts of the notes that list things word for word, the Qs from the slides are nore general, and the articles you need to know.

This class is not bad, the only bad thing was my horrible, irresponsible, and undependable group which left me stuck doing all the work alone! You do a lot of research (its a research class!) that will help you with the research portion of the CPA. He is very helpful and always PROMPTLY responded to my emails/questions. Memorize n you'll b ok :)

Even though I believed this class would be extremely helpful, his exams are TOUGH! He will lower your grade for any little thing. For example, do not write "realized/ realizable" but he wants "realized OR realizable." Yea, he's that picky. Hard class!

When I started his class, I couldn't stand him. I thought he was just plain mean and wanted to show off how much he knew. Now that I look back, the class was extremely helpful. He will push you, but you will come out with so much knowledge. Its a bunch of work, but definitely worth it. He's not a mean guy, he just wants students to learn.

Whatever you do not take him. He is the worst professor in the accounting school. He picks apart presentations. He grades like an English teacher. Both midterm and final are straight memorization. He will ask you to write definition down from the notes word for word. My suggestion is that if you can take another teacher. Drop the class if you can.

Don't take him! If you have him just drop him. Worst accounting professor. If you don't believe me look at the reviews of him lower from about 2004 or 2005. Let me let you nothing has changed. He is still the same bad professor.

Wouldn't take again

Tests are all memorization, directly in quotes, fill in blanks, which is unbelievable. If you know a definition/details of a concept, and can explain it to anyone, but do not memorize the word for word definition, you get the question wrong. He is a tough grader. No curves. Class Average : 53.2% which means more than half the class failed.

Only guy who gives out this class, so no chance of avoiding him :( Terrible feedback on homework, very unclear and it feels like he's trying to fail you. Also, he doesn't seem to know that everyone has busy schedules and may not be able to read 4+ hours of lecture notes a week. Inconsistent grading times too.

Group work w/ 2 students: 2 Video Presentations (20%), 3 Written Assignments (20%), 1 Data Analytics Assignment (10%). Midterm/Final (25% each). No extra credit. Nice guy, TOUGH class. Doing well on HW will help immensely. Uses Examity to proctor tests, so be sure to spend time studying, don't save for last minute. Put in the work & you'll do well!
