I actually like him a lot... the class is challenging, but he'll definitely help you out. All you have to do is GO TALK TO HIM. He enjoys talking to the students, he's not here to make money, and he enjoys being there. You'll need to study, but Alfuth will help.

If you want to take a once-a-week finance class, be prepared to study a lot on your own. Read the book. He moves at a steady, quick pace, always with enthusiasm and a sense of humor, but covers a LOT of material. You are not likely to pass if you rely on just paying attention in class to get you through, accounting background or no...

If you are a business student that does not have to take anymore acct. or finance classes then this is your man. I study one time a week and pulled off an A in his class. He wants to have more contact with his students but is limited due to another job.

easy class! you will have to study though to get an A. if you do what you are suppose to do and also listen, you will do well. can't beat using an entire sheet of notes on every test and all notes, book, etc. on quizzes. if you can punch some numbers into a financial calculator then you will do good!

I can't believe all the negative comments on this guy..I'm usually pretty harsh on professors but Alfuth is a pretty sweet guy. He makes FIN much easier to understand for non FIN majors. Full note card front and back for exams with whatever you want on it. He's not around much for office hours, but if you just read go to class youll be fine.

This is my second time taking the class, and I understood the material much better with him. He is a really great guy, always willing to help. 380/400 points are from quizzes and tests, but quizzes are open note/book and you can drop four of them. I really reccommend him; he is by far the best finance teacher here.

Super teacher!

Awesome professor. Great man who will help make finance clear whether it is your major or you are taking it for the buscore. Gives power point examples for quizzes and holds review sessions for exactly what will be on the exam. He is also very down to Earth and approachable.

Great professor. The class isn't easy, but he lets you use all of your notes and the book during each quiz. The exams need to be studied for but he gives a study guide for each one. He grades every exam and quiz by midnight the day you take it. He is a great professor. The only negative thing is he doesn't curve and has a tougher grading scale.

Mark is a great guy but his class is not a breeze by any means. Finance is a tough subject but he makes it as painless as possible. He is an extremely intelligent guy and has a lot of great experience and examples to help you understand. Do your homework and put some effort into studying and you will do well.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND you take this class with him! He's such a good professor and really wants to help you get a good grade. As long as you go to class and pay attention, he makes getting a good grade easy :)

Great professor! He's the CFO of a company in Minneapolis, so he's extremely knowledgeable. Absolutely loves teaching and his students. Wants you to do well. Not much HW, and tests are tough, but he tells you what you need to know. Only 3 tests including the final, and a weekly quiz is what makes up your grade.

Alfuth is awesome! Definitely recommend taking him-weekly quizzes where you can use your notes, 3 exams including the final. He gives study guides for each exam so as long as you study you will do fine! He is really dedicated to teaching and will help in any way possible!

Great guy, great public speaker (keeps you interested). Doesn't do much "teaching", but applies many real-world examples to his lectures. Get to use textbook/notes on weekly quizzes. Reading the book is pointless because what is covered in class is on the tests. Tough class/boring topic, but Alfuth makes it bearable.

I thought Alfuth was a great professor! He made finance fun and I enjoyed his class. I wish I could take more classes by him. I thought the quizzes weren't bad and same for the tests.

His class was long, but he made it fun to go to. He is so good at what he does but flies through information. If you ask for help he will definitely help but you have to tell him when you need him to slow down. He's just so smart.

This class isn't a breeze. You are graded on 12 weekly quizzes (only 10 count), 3 exams, and a research paper. Mark is awesome. He is there to answer any of your questions, and he wants you to do well. The tests aren't too difficult as long as you put in some effort studying. I definitely recommend him.

Mark is an awesome guy all around. He's the kind of person that worked his way to the top, and stayed down to Earth with the rest of us. (You'll see this too when you take his class). There are 12 quizzes and 3 tests, and 1 paper that isn't as hard as it seems once you get rollin'. Definitely would take him for the rest of my finance classes!!!

I don't know how Mark isn't at a 4.5 at the minimum... Absolutely awesome professor who teaches you WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW in the real world. He also gears his class to all the different majors who are taking the class including actuarial science, finance, accounting, math, etc. Awesome prof, wish I could take him again.

Honestly I loved this professor! He is a great teacher and person and really makes the class enjoyable and relatable to the real world. It honestly didn't feel like a hard class at all so I highly suggest him for anyone considering!

Prof. Alfuth is a great teacher who has lots of real world experience to apply to his teaching. He is also very personable, students can go to him with any question and he is willing to help!

Professor Alfuth, in my mind is the best professor on this campus. He brings years of real world knowledge and doesn't make students memorize formulas you can google after graduation. His class was always my favorite to attend, with jokes and stories. He doesn't need to be a professor given his past work experience, he chooses to give back to us.

Professor Alfuth brings a lot of experience into this class and is very friendly and easy to talk to. In this class you are separated into 'pods' and over the course of the semester you will do a lot of work with these pods and during class, a lot of activities. Mark brings a ton of real world experience to the Finance department at UWEC and is easily one of the best professors I've had in my 3 years here so far. He's a funny guy, a fair grader, and truly wants you to understand the material. I'd recommend him to anyone looking to take FIN320 and beyond.

Mr. Alfuth is the BEST professor at UWEC. TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. He is there because he actually loves teaching and is amazing at it, he wants to see his students succeed. BSAD 180 was a great introductory business course, and Mark shared a lot of his own knowledge and advice during the class. Required readings are easy and interesting.

This is a great class if you are unsure about what major to pick in the college of business. Mark brings in a few speakers for every major so you can understand what they are all about. Tests are pretty straightforward and the weekly homework is a breeze. One group project but it is not a big deal.

Mark is literally the greatest professor at UWEC. He is full of information of all aspects of the business world and has great connections. Best teacher I've ever had. Crazy smart, super funny, makes the class very interesting. There's a quiz just about every day, but none of them are overly difficult. The tests aren't too bad either. As long as you are studying and doing the practice problems, you'll do just fine. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying him or the class.

Mark is by far my favorite professor in the College of Business. EC is so lucky to have someone as knowledgable as him. It is evident that he cares about the students success more than anything. He won't try to trick you, and tests are average difficulty. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Best class out of any college program. No tests, no textbook, no homework. Just real world skills. Class feels more like a career than a class. Amazing guest speakers too like CEO of foot locker, George Bush's economic advisor, and many more. Impossible not to get an A in this class if you put in effort.

Alfuth is a great professor. Knows his stuff. Biggest piece of advice is to listen VERY carefully and take good notes when he goes over the homework during the first 15-30 minutes of class. This is pretty much exactly what will be on the quiz at the end of class. They're worth 7 points every class. Tests are MC but work must be shown to get credit.

Easily one of my favorite business courses I've taken. Lectures are engaging and you are given plenty of opportunities to raise your grade.
