passionate and extremely knowledgable about subject matter, genuinely cares about students, very fair, really nice guy.

He is a good teacher but he kinda gets distracted and he lacks memory. Overall he is a good guy.
GREAT CLASS! The whole class is about BASEBALL!
He doesn't know anything about anything but baseball. How can he be teaching English?
hes goood
Genuine concern for students. Class encouraged me to read the classics and will continue to do so.
Very good professor, cares about the students. I had him for Honors English, and he was challenging without being impossible. I learned a lot, and he inspired me to read more.
Good professor, interesting class. The stories he picks are pretty entertaining so it's not a drag to do the work. A couple of papers and quizzes, but pretty easy if you work hard!
He only knopws and cares about baseball, knows nothing about litearture. How can he be teaching an honors class. I don't think he could pass a college English course.
he's alright, i had better professors
His assignments of readings were good and the discussions about the readings were even better. He opens your eyes up to the world we live in and what's up with it. Lots of discussion. Makes the class interesting. He's cool.
He very good teach, caring, helpful, and he will help u if u have plm with on paper. he is very understand man i like him i like this class sometime its interestin... take him if u believe me haha
he is not a good teacher at all. he doesnt explain things as best as they should be.
He loves to OVER discuss the stories, but doesnt over load the work at all, easy grader and you can just tell how into literature he is, You want an easy "A" take him.
He's a great guy and very understanding too. He makes you think more into detail with things. The work he gives is easy. And he's not the type to get mad, he's very calm about things. He's helpful when you need it. Overall he's a good teacher. I wouldn't mind taking his class again.
Sooo easy
Very nice teacher, def an easy A... Gets a little boring though when he goes off track or talks about a story, but nice guy and easy A
funny teacher
I wouldn't take him again... I should have had a higher grade..
Great teacher, I wouldn't mind taking him again

Easy class, but a lot of reading....Also, gets very boring at times.
i guess hes a pretty good teacher... easier than most of the other ones... only gives you 3 essays and 1 term paper to do.. but for someone who doesnt like writing thats alot... not too hard on grading either
he wants extreme detail in EVERYTHING you do for him but if you write papers really good you should be fine..the class is boring and you read everyday through his class..i am taking it now and i don't like it at all...there are better teachers out there
Easy teacher. All we did was read short stories and have discussions in class. Very easy
the best english teacher that you want to take in bergen and he is very nice too!
He keeps you busy but he's interesting and very fair. If you do all your work, you can get an A even in the honors class. He lets you rewrite one of your papers for a better grade.
Pretty worthless prof. You just reread the same stuff you read for class constantly. Very dry. Kind of a scatterbrain. The class wasn't hard, and I'm into writing but his teaching is uninspiring. He lost a paper I wrote and never handed it back to me. I missed close to a month of class and pulled a B+, so he's not too strict.Wouldn't take him again
Boring, uninteresting, you are guaranteed to sleep through every class. He knows about baseball and as far as I can tell nothing else. Why is he teaching honors???
He is the best english teacher in the world. He loves his job and is open to help you if you want to learn he's the one to take.
THE MOST GENUINE MAN I'VE MET AT BERGEN. I HAD JUST BROKE UP WITH MY BOYFRIEND AND WAS CRYING..HE UNDERSTOOD WHY I WAS LATE AND A VERY FAIR GRADER! DEFF A MUST TO TAKE!!!!!
he will work with you until you understand something and he really doesn't want to see anyone fail- his main goal of the class was to get everyone into english comp. . . and almost everyone in my class passed the department test the first time
One of the best teachers here at Bergen; a thought provoker; TAKE HIM: you won't regret it! Oh... and you get the grade you deserve.
GREAT TEACHER ! i love this class and he is such a genuwinely down to earth nice guy. He is very smart and knows what he is talking about and the class is not hard. i would ABSOLUETLY recommend taking him! i would love to take his class againn!
good teacher.not the best in the world.but very helpful and nice guy.easy grader and does point out your mistakes.his topics for essays and short stories are not boring either unlike other teachers.i suggest you take if you want to pass and get a EBS or WRT class out of the way.
Prof. Altschuler is an ok teacher. He loves to talk, but is never boring, although he tends to go off topic sometimes. Okay grader. Will understand if you are having some personal problems and will give you space and extra time if you talk to him. Overall...not so bad. Would probably take him again.
he is a good professor i got an easy A. just show up to class, do whatever work he gives in time(its easy) and try to be better than other students in class. he will be in favor of you. you will surely get an A with no doubt. only a book necessary is "The Color Of Water" and you good to go. read and do journals of each chapter and mini research.
Good prof. He made class interesting and actively listened to the students. It was not an easy workload but definately doable. I would take his class again and recommend him to you if, you like to learn and work for the grade you deserve.
Truely helpful to the students If you show up and complete the few short assignments he gives you can pass wit a B or A
he's a good professor. do his work, go to class and youll get a good grade.
Prof Altschuler is a good teacher and he knows his writting but he is a very hard grader. You have one in class essay, and 3 take home essays. Also you are required to do your term paper on huck finn. I did improve my writting and learned to get out of my comfort zone in writting but it was bit hard. Take him if you want to improve your writting.
My favorite professor at Bergen so far. Really, really nice guy, with a genuwine passion for the things he is teaching. His criticisms on essays are constructive, and he always values students' perspectives on the material. There is a lot of discussion, and the topics are always interesting. Take this man's class!
He is absolutely amazing. So helpful. So nice. So caring. So friendly. Take him, you won't regret it!
he was realll easy going and an overall cool guy. Class is easy, discusses a lot. No hw besides reading and 3 essays. Need the txtbook for reading, available for rent tho. Accepts first drafts and givees himself extra work to help you do better. Take him if u can
Boring and simplistic. It felt more like an American Literature class than a writing class. If you are only concerned with your grade take him. If you want to learn take someone else. Simple as that.
Great Teacher, no too much homework and he give just 3 essay. very smart
This professor is great. I took him last summer and i actually do miss that class. I tought that it was going to be boring but it was actually a good class. I did not mind being there... He gives like 3 essays and I'm pretty sure he gives you a second chance if you don't do good on them... and a couple of quizzes.. and i think thats about it
He is a good professor. Makes the readings actually interesting and the workload it really light. I think im a better writer after a semester with him. I would definitely recommend him.
Take his classes if you want a round of white guilt. That's about as complex as the course is going to strike you.
He's cool but really disorganized
Great teacher class was easy only he tends to be disorganized with assignments
He is a very nice guy and very helpful. I hate reading but makes the readings interesting because of his discussions. Very lenient with grading. Lets you re write an essay to improve your grade. He is disorganized but a nice professor. Take him. You can get anything lower than a B in his class :)
Took Mr.Altschuler my first semester at Bergen for EBS very great guy that loves PARTICIPATION. FYI: Collects journals, and always bring your class folders with your essays. Very disorganized seems like he has alot going on. Overall nice guy and an easy grader. My concern was just his organization .
Such a great, understanding, helpful and lenient professor. Communicate with him and he will help. Do think the course is more reading than writing, but not complaining. 3 Essays, some pop quizzes so make sure you read, & one mini research paper. Awesome guy and class. Take him!
VERY disorganized. The class is so boring and I honestly dreaded going to this class. I would not recommend taking any lit class with this teacher
His explanations of the assigned readings were unclear, and he did not spend enough time on some of the more difficult material. We had to do silly group assignments in class that only served to fuel my discontent of this course. He is not approachable and can be condescending and rude. Do not purchase the txtbook. All stories can be found online
Terrible experience he is very disorganized and rude.
I wasn't a fan of this teacher. You just read stories and write about them and journals. It's an easy class but it gets so boring after a while.
Horrible teacher, extemely rude, very unprepared for his lessons. impatient and refuses to take the time to explain things. very unorganized.
three essays, one mini research paper, and an in class final essay. He's really sweet and if you show enough interest, he'll go easy on you. If you don't like a grade you got on your essay he allows you to rewrite it.
three essays, a mini research paper of 6 pages, and short journal entries for every story we read. really not that hard of a class if you read the stories he assigns (they are short and painless) but not the most exciting one you'll have. The reading he assigns can all be found online.
Very smart man, great discussions. Especially with honor students he allows you to do a rough draft of essays and hand in a final later on. Very funny and understanding if you talk to him, but you have to do the readings, which aren't that bad, and you have to participate in the class discussion which is 95% of the class.
An open-minded professor who is understanding but very disorganized.
My favorite college professor I've had yet. Taken two of his classes now and, while he's no easy grade, would take again given the opportunity. A lot of reading then coming to class with your own interpretations. He generally picks interesting reads and the class discussions are often enlightening as well as welcoming.
He's hands down my favorite professor. It was through him that I fell in love with literature. The class is very interactive which was wonderful and unique compared to other classes. He introduced me to so many new books/stories, and helped me improve my writing without making it feel like a chore. I am forever grateful to him. Take him!
you need to participate in class discussions. IF you are shy and don't like talking in class don't take him. I got all As this semester but got C+ in this class. Also, there are POP QUIZZES. You won't know when he will give you one so read all the stories. So far worst professor and class I had in BCC. I'm so mad :-(
My favorite professor at Bergen so far. His honors courses come with intelligent discussion, deep, analytical reading and tons of food for thought. Very supportive and responds to emails quickly. 3 essays and 1 critical research essay. Not too much work, definitely heavy on the writing, but that's expected.
People/student focused class set up. Students became people because he encourages expression and explores even small observations to help fully flesh ideas and push discussions forward. The Qs are just for story facts to make sure you did the homework. Simple instructions. Do the journals, you'll warm up your skills of expression for the essays.
This professor has an easy class when you are in class, all you do is discuss stories that you have to read. However, you do not learn a thing about writing and you are only graded based on 4 essays and 1 research essay. He graded with the most annoying comments and I feel like he was a bit prejudice. He definitely favors loudmouth girls. Just dont
Gives out extra credit. Caring and helps his students pass his class.
Good professor. I seemed fine in his class and didn't mind the reading quizzes. Essays are very easy if you do them with a tutor. There is also an in-class essay and you can ask him for help with that essay. Take him.
Took his Short Story Lit. class -- his lectures can be a bit dry and drag on at times, but he is also a bit of a character. Participation in discussions is critical for getting a good grade. 2 essays; put in effort and you will get at least a B+ on them. His only real major downside is pop quizzes. Overall though, he is a good professor.
Took his class online during COVID, no syllabus or grading criteria, everything done through email. Lots of short, easy written assignments based on stories read for the class and 3 formal papers. He assigns stuff usually the day before its due and doesnt tell you your grade. If you dont mind lack of structure, his class is pretty easy.
FALL 2020 ASYNCHRONOUS This class really wasnt that hard, the work was the same every week. The major problem was this professor could not figure out how to create a moodle site. Which he would send he multiple emails about the same assignment and just made everything confusing.
NO STRUCTURE. Granted, his class is easy if you read the assignments. However, the most helpful post signifies his lack of structure. Some people NEED that or else they fall into a hole that they can't get out of. He posts assignments the DAY they are due (I work 40+ hours a week), which is unacceptable. If you need structure, DON"T BOTHER.
This professor was so un organized. Everything was sent through email ,everything! The syllabus, assignments everything had to be searched for if you wanted to find it later .The only thing on noodle was the discussion board ,but no work! most of us have jobs and prefer structure! there was no structure!Good luck With getting good grades on papers.
I took this class asyncronously and to be completely honest, it is NOT the worst class out there. Yes, he lacks some structure because he does prefer to email his assignments which can be inconvenient (definitely caused me to miss a few due dates), but he's a pretty understanding guy, and lets you make up work so I'd say he's an easy professor.
11/10 recommend. Prof. A is awesome. His lectures and essays are the easiest things in the world.
Super nice in class, assigns journal entries based on class readings so that's the most common hw. The essays are tedious and difficult. Also refuses to use the school portal and only gives assignments in person, so you will have to email if you miss class. Final essay is a research paper, but there are 3 other essays besides that, so be careful.
Chill professor who is lenient if you are honest with him. Participation in his class will get you far but the way he teachers makes people want to participate. Would recommend him to everyone and would take his course again.
This professor was nice. Try to participate, as this will help you understand the reading. Had 4 essays and 1 in-person essay. Every class, we discussed the reading and offered our perspective on it. You'll do fine if you do your work on time and utilize your resources. Also, show up to every class you can.
Great professor. Leads classes in a discussion format and encourages students to participate. His classes are very in-person, so don't expect anything in the likes of Moodle or Canvas. Read the material, have something to say, and engage with your classmates in the discussion. If you have any questions just ask him, he's very approachable.
he's a chill professor but he always talked about using canvas in the beginning of the semester but would never open up the page, not to mention he would be very disorganized sometimes and instead of doing our usual lessons, he would go into a full-blown yapping session, and i would find that annoying if i was on 30mins of sleep. not a bad guy tho.
Good professor but this class felt like a middle school level class which is fine but so annoying to be there every day at 8am. There were journal entries everyday with reading to go along with that. 1 essay, 1 research paper, and 1 in class essay. Very weird with grading. Also doesn't use canvas. Easiest english class you can possibly take.
