Awesome teacher looks like Thomas Dolby 80's singer. And talks like agent smith from the Matrix
Made the class very interesting and very fun. Makes it very easy if you show up. Talks EXACTLY like agent smith from the matrix
this class is for thinkers its up to you if you wont to try or not and he can tell!
Mark is the most knowledgeable and intelligent teacher I have encountered at the Community college level. His is one of those classes that will help open your mind and challenge what you previously thought. His class is high minded but not snooty. All you really have to do is show up, participate in conversation, and take SOME notes on concepts. Te
Great teacher! It's one of those classes that you have to take seriously but don't have to stress over the tests or essays.
What a great professor!!! I took ethics with him this Fall and he was fantastic. If you show up you can hardly help getting an A. His instructions were clear and he is willing to help anytime. If I need anymore Philosophy classes, I definitely will be taking them with him.
I promise this man speaks in tongue. Very hard to understand or comprehend what he is explaining. Quizes literally every other day. Read the stupid book that too, makes no sense. Good Luck.
I'm taking his online class and I admit it takes a lot of work. He allows 2 weeks to finish each lesson. A quiz, discussion board, and short essay at the end of each lesson.
This was a class that took a lot more work than I thought but Prof. Anderson is so helpful, if you put some effort into the class there's no way you will fail. If your looking for a blow off class this is not for you. If you want to truly look at how and why you think the things you do take him. I wouldn't take philosophy with any other professor
Mr Anderson kept your attention with his depth and different ways of looking at things. After attending his ethics class you really found yourself thinking about what was discussed in class and applying it to every day things. I took the class on a whim but definitely got more out of it than 90% of all of my 4 years of college.
Mr. Anderson is a very good teacher. Philosophy is probably one of the hardest subjects to teach and he does it well. By the very nature of the subject matter, it gets very confusing but he is happy to answer any question and even engage in a little philosophy banter as well. Oh, and he is a VERY nice person!
Very unclear about what is expected. Takes too long to answer simple questions and then never gets back on topic. Does not keep class "in check" and he and the students just ramble on all class period. I LOVE Ethics and I had to drop his class due to the fear of failing an easy subject.
Very unclear about what is expected, takes forever to answer simple questions. Would not recommend to anyone.
The earlier comments are lies, Mr. Anderson makes it CRYSTAL CLEAR as to what is expected of you in his class. Aside from being clear, he is extremely nice and tries to help everyone pass his class. The only way to fail is not to go. I just wish he taught more subjects so i could take him again. Also, he does sound like Agent Smith from The Matrix
Mr. Anderson is a great teacher, is clear in his instructions, and grades fairly. Most of the course is doing either a discussion board post (first you add something to the discussion, then you challenge a peers answer) or a journal reflection. Even though I feared this subject, I enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Worst prof ever. Didn't make anything clear. Rambles on FOREVER and never gets his point across.
Mr. Anderson was BY FAR one of my favorite professors at TCC. Made classes interesting, hilarious, and I learned a lot. Grades fairly, show that you paid attention to his lectures and you should do well. Not a blow off course, but not extremely difficult. I would take Mr. Anderson for every course if I could, makes learning the subject fun
not a good teacher at all he does not work very well with students with disability
A very funny, nice, helpful professor. He answers emails timely, and keeps his office hours. He will give you good techniques to study - and if you use them, you will master the material and do well.
I recommend you take this class only because he makes the lecture very interesting the only thing is you have to put in a lot of effort to pass, its not impossible though. All you have to do is READ the passages! He gives surprise tests, and you have to write about three papers. He is very helpful if you seek for help! One of my fav. teachers!
Amazing professor. By far the most interesting class I have taken. Mr. Anderson always does his best to make sure everyone gets a good grade. Anyone that does poorly either didn't care or didn't try. Wish he taught more classes.
This was a class that took a lot more work than I thought but Prof. Anderson is so helpful, if you put some effort into the class there's no way you will fail. If your looking for a blow off class this is not for you. If you want to truly look at how and why you think the things you do take him. Pay attention to each passage, gives lots of pop test
Mark is a great teacher and is very helpful. His hours are pretty flexible and always keeps them. He answers questions promptly, makes everything clear, and cares about his craft in the subject. This class is quite difficult but easy with effort. Do not 'need' textbooks as long as you do not miss class. Fun nonetheless.
Professor is tough but funny. Must attend class to follow lecture. Participation is required to get good grasp on material. Must read book when assigned. Loves to give pop quizzes.
Anderson is clear in the subject and always gives curves on tests. The only grades are tests and homework which is from the BOOK. You will need the book for homework. As for the material, just listen and take good notes. This class is challenging but studying and asking questions will earn you an A
Mark Anderson knows Philosophy, but is a hard professor. Must show up to class as all assignments are built around his lectures and his notes only. Loves to give pop quizzes over the previous readings. Very rarely will he accept late work. If you are looking to take Intro to Philosophy, take a different professor.
Anderson is great, and is willing to go as far down the rabbit hole as you want to go. He provides great feed back and doesn't allow his personal bias to affect his instruction. The arguments are great and I always left feeling as thought I had truly learned something important
BEST TEACHER EVER :D I would so take this class all over again. If you don't understand, feel free to ask questions, he'll take the time to make sure everyone is on the right page. He's funny, helpful, just the best teacher. You do read, but its not a novel, just 3-4 pages, its not boring. You question yourself a lot, but that't the fun.
I LOVED taking Anderson's intro to Philosophy. He has a doctorate from the University of Michigan, so he definitely knows what he's talking about. Very willing to explain things through if you just ask, non-biased lecture, gives about 15 quizzes thru the semester-so make sure you do your readings. Wish I could take him again! I learned a ton.
Hardest class I have taken in the last two years. I studied hours upon hours to make my hard deserved A. If you want a challenge take this class. I enjoyed the structure of the class, Mark is a duty expert in Philosophy. No make ups and no extra credit, so be sure to have all of your assignments turned in on time. Be ready for a challenge!
He's one of the best
Mr. Anderson is a great professor, his lectures are very important to pass the class though so if you're going to skip it's probably not a good idea to take him. You occasionally have to read to understand the discussion and also because he gives random pop quizzes. As long as you show up and take notes it should be an easy A.
Definitely the most engaging, energetic philosophy professor I've ever had; take this dude.
This was definitely one of my more harder classes, but because I enjoyed the class, it was what made me like to be challenged. If you don't go to class, you will NOT understand your friend's notes or the book enough. Taking good notes during class will save you. 3 exams (MC, matching, and written response) and 2 exposition papers (2-3 pages).
He is an awesome professor! He knows alot about philosophy! His class is easy just as long as you do the readings and take notes. He gives out pop quizzes and grades the 10 highest scores. I would recommend him!
Dr. Anderson's online class was a breeze. Textbook was required, but a little less than half of the online worksheet answers were within his awesome notes. His philosophy class was well organized. There were set dates for each lesson. He gave us 2 weeks to complete some lessons occasionally. Some discussion boards required with critic responses.
Mr . Anderson made learning super easy. However, you will need your textbook and if you have any questions ask even if you don't understand. He is there for you.
This is the second time I've taken Professor Anderson, and the way he takes class readings and applies them really makes it easy to understand the philosophical concepts. One of the best professors I have ever taken.
I really do not like Philosophy but he made it easy. He really elaborates every lesson, gives so many basic examples for you to understand easily. You need to prepare for on-the-spot quizzes. So, you better READ the reading for the day before class starts. About his tests, if you really know the lessons, you're good. ALWAYS LISTEN TO HIS LECTURES.
take his class!!! yes you have to read but it is worth it he is passionate about philosophy. i recommend you read he has random pop quizzes they are a small part of your grade and he drops 3 . If you can get into one of his supplemental instruction classes do it. having someone you can go to for help makes it so much easier. overall great class A+
8 total work sheets & 8 total journal/discussion board assignments 1 final journal (300+ word essay over the semester) The journal/D.B. makes you think. Need to give yourself plenty of time if you want a good grade. Assignments normally 2 weeks apart except for 3. In the assignments you need to give example/ quotes/ refrances from the book.
One of my favorite classes, he really makes sure you understand what he is teaching and gives examples to better understand the reading, as long as you read, show up, study, and listen you should do great in the class. Has a great sense of humor when teaching the course and always willing to help. Pop quizzes are super easy, as long as you read!
Mr. Anderson made the class interesting. You need the textbook in order to do the assigned readings. If you don't read, you will fail the quizzes, which you take once or twice a week. The exams can be tricky at times but he always puts a review on blackboard with the types of questions and essay questions that will be on the actual exam.
Really makes you think outside the box. I really enjoyed my Ethics class
Truly amazing lectures, really gets you thinking and bouncing ideas around. He writes most everything you need to know on the board, so copy that down. As long as you show up to class and apply yourself, you'll do great. Good dude
Fantastic teacher. He really encourages class participation and makes the conversation thought-provoking and worthwhile. You'll have 14-15 quizzes throughout the semester over assigned readings from the textbook but he only counts your best 10 for your final grade. Tests are relatively easy as long as you show up and pay attention during lectures.
I hated his class he is lecture heavy and they don't make sense. If you miss a class you are screwed. Make sure to read everyday because he randomly gives quizzes and expects you to know the material. Philosophy is a hard enough subject dealing with teacher like him is annoying. I needed a B missed it by 7 pts don't bother asking about your grade.
Philosophy is not an easy class. You need to have the time and effort to get a good grade. I loved taking this class and I actually learned so much. Professor Anderson wants you to actually UNDERSTAND what the lesson is talking about. Not just the "key words." His worksheets are hard work if you don't read the textbook.
Awesome summer teacher & I thought he was pretty funny. He tries his very best to make sure everyone understands his lectures. His lectures are pretty intense, he writes all over the white board and doesnt use slideshows. Make sure you write down a majority of what he says. The quizzes are based off of the reading material he assigns. no homework.
I took the 1 month summer course. He is very clear about what he expects. READ THE SYLLABUS. He does NOT accept late work and you NEED THE TEXTBOOK. He does provided sets of notes for each lesson. The quizzes are 25 questions and you have all the time until the due date to access the quizzes and correct your answers. Easy class just do your work.
Prof. Anderson is good at teaching a difficult subject. Lecture heavy classes, but he writes on the board so it's easy to take notes. You'll read for homework daily and have quizzes over that material. Tests require some real thinking, not just memorization. You'll write a couple of papers. No extra credit. You'll have to work for an A.
This was one of my first online classes so I was nervous to see how I would do. Even though this was a tough class I will say that Anderson was a great professor. He is a pretty tough grader but the feedback he gives will really help you in the future. The textbook is required and there is a lot of reading but overall it is a great class.
There is a lot of reading he assigns throughout the semester, which is fine because it's a college course, but not when his reading assignments and his class lectures don't even line up. I was hoping to like philosophy, because it seemed interesting, but after taking this course with this professor, I hate philosophy. To each their own, though.
The kind of teacher you want to keep in touch with. I really respect this guy. I was surprised to find such quality at TCC. You can tell he really wants to help. Despite Philosophy being an infuriating subject for most people, like me, he works through some of the tough issues with a good sense of humor about it. Can he transfer to UTA with me?
Professor Anderson was one of my all time favorite professors to ever have. If you do not plan on actually learning the material he presents, then the class will be difficult. Applying yourself can guarantee a good grade with him. He is very humorous and makes class enjoyable as well as ACTUALLY teaching you something. 10/10 great professor
Mark does a great job making the ideas presented in the readings clear. Average reading is 15 pages a week or so, but not much of it is really dense. And, Mark tells you up front that it's what he says in class that counts and he is true to his word. Lectures are very organized and his tests and the grading of papers reflect his lectures.
Philosophy is TOUGH but Mr. Anderson makes it bearable. You won't want to miss any lectures though or else you'll be lost tbh. He is hilarious and is willing to help work through the tough ideas. There are readings almost every class but it's not bad. You have to really apply yourself and be willing to think outside the box. Would take again!
1. Record his lectures. He explains everything in great detail and you want to be able to catch everything 2. Take notes. It'll help out in the long run 3. READ THE ASSIGNMENTS... (pop quizzes) 4. Study. Lectures are amazing. Pay attention to the details and examples, they are valuable in tests. Do what is required and you WILL pass.
Teribble Professor, he is unclear in what he wants in his lessons. You could write an excellent paper and he will still not give you full credit because you didnt give him what he wanted, even though it is unclear in the lecture assignments .
Professor Anderson is an excellent instructor. He is highly intelligent, witty, very clear and funny. Philosophy is a hard subject and I feel like he recognizes that because he isn't harsh when grading at all. He also adds a curve to every test. Pay attention, take good notes, read the assigned pages (they'll help), and you'll be fine.
TAKE HIM! Philosophy is not for everyone however Prof Anderson made it very worth while! I learned a lot. Gives feedback for every assignment, fairly easy grader, allows you to make up your lowest quiz/DB grade. Quizzes were tough for me, take your time do not procrastinate. Be ready to think outside of the box, don't listen to the neg reviews!
Professor Anderson was my favorite professor because he likes to connect with students face to face and actually lets you discuss the content. He gives lots of quizzes they are mostly lecture based and reading. If you listen to the lectures and study it you will pass all of the tests. Do not rely on any internet or outside sources to pass
This was a really tough class for me, but he's really good at what he does. super funny guy.
Professor Anderson is a fun and clear professor. He makes philosophy more than just a lecture and easier to understand. Does require reading and papers. Quizzes usually just a little paragraph answering a question on a theory. Would recommend.
Mark Anderson is a fantastic professor, he truly cares about his class and students too. Although his class is a little tough he is more than happy to help you with whatever you need. He is a great lecturer and class participation is encouraged. Philosophy is not a blow off class so don't take this class if you're just looking for an easy A.
This was my first online class ever and I literally almost failed this class not gonna lie, it was hard but its my fault because I didnt take it as seriously as I should have in the beginning and once I started taking it seriously it was too hard for me to catch up. Gotta make sure you read! If I could do it over I would and I would really try.
This teacher cares very little about giving students the ability to succeed in his class. While this class is very straightforward, he had no leniency toward me because I had to miss half of a single class period due to an emergency. I received a zero on a quiz, and even after asking if I could make it up on the same day it was due, he said no.
This class is super easy if you show up and are attentive in the lectures. Simple as that. There are small readings in-between each class covering the material going to be talked about and quizzes on the reading. The quizzes aren't worth much so if you miss/fail some quizzes it won't make a huge difference. Just make sure you understand concepts.
I took this as an online class. There's a ton of reading and the chapters seem very long, but the topics are very engaging & interesting. There are no tests, only worksheets that you can use the book & notes with. There are discussion boards & he provides feedback on all of the discussions & journals. His lecture notes are funny and informational.
I never knew how much I liked a challenge until I took this class. This class was not an easy A. I felt completely engaged throughout the lectures and the back and forth class participation. The writing prompts on test really make you think. Quick tip : some people get philosophy while others don't. If you're the latter find a study partner ASAP.
Basically prepare for a daily quiz. Always do the reading he assigns, because thats what his quizzes cover. Sometimes the readings were difficult to understand, so put time into it and dont cram. Overall, he made the class fun and interesting, and he made me fall in love with the subject philosophy.
I took Professor Anderson in the semester of fall 2018 and loved his class. You definitely need to work in this class, but it is worth it. He makes the content easy to understand and I would strongly recommend him.
Anderson was a really great professor. He assigns readings and then lectures about them on a whole new level and really makes you think about what you believe while also teaching you about philosophy theories.
Had a wonderful semester with this teacher! Took his class online for the Fall 16 week semester. There is a lot of reading but the material is so interesting. There is a worksheet and a discussion/journal assignment every 2 weeks. For the worksheet, you just follow along and complete it as you read the material. Just do the work and its an easy A+.
His lectures are very interesting. He explains concepts well very and provides many examples in order for the class to fully understand what it is he is trying to convey. it is a challenging class but his way of explaining the subject made it a little less difficult. Very funny and very nice.
There's a lot of reading and the worksheets are a bit hard because they are not actually straight forward from the readings, and it feels like he tries to trick you. Try to get ahead and be prepared to read a lot and use your head a lot and you will do good, just know you have to work for the grade.
Professor Anderson gives the best lectures that will make the material so easy to understand. You'll have to read the textbook and take online quizes which were pretty difficult because the textbook was very hard to understand. Since he is so well educated on the subject, he can be a hard grader. You HAVE to study if you want to pass this class.
Very rarely did we have actual tests, the main things that were due were worksheets (which all the answers were in his notes or the book) and DB/Journals. This class was easy and I would highly recommend it. He always gave good feedback on the journals and DBs as well.
Best philosophy professor you could choose his lectures are clear and he is great at teaching and making sure we are understanding. He gives one 5 question quiz a week and if you go to the lecture you will be able to pass with an A. 10/10 recommend mark Anderson
He doesn't assign too much work at once. The work he does assign takes a bit to get through because of the amount you have to read. As long as you read everything you're supposed to, you can get through this class with ease.
He gives out reading for extra credit, beware, some are long. He is STRICT on deadlines so do everything you can to turn your stuff in. The most challenging part of this class would be the papers but theres only two and he gives you about a week or two to write them. All his assignments are based on in lecture conversations so GO TO CLASS
He is super strict with deadlines, but the workload for 8-wk course was easily doable. I thought I would dread philosophy but his assignments were fun and engaging. This class and especially his teaching has made the most impact on my life out of any class I've taken. It feels good to have a professor who welcomes and encourages critical thinking.
prof anderson's classes are always entertaining, just don't forget to take notes, as the quizzes, papers, and exams are all open note, so they depend on how well you took your notes. prof also offers extra credit with readings, whether they were pop quizzes or simply meeting with him to talk about the reading. overall one of the best classes :)
Professor Anderson made philosophy fun and interesting! There were weekly quizzes that consisted of only 5 questions, that were based on class lecture so yes, attendance is mandatory! (Were extremely simple though) This professor does NOT use ppts so you will have to pay attention during lecture and take notes. 2 essays, 3 unit exams. SUPER FUNNY!
This is not the best teacher I ever had, like others mentioned he's a tough grader in his essays.
Very funny and well-informed Mr.Anderson is a great character and an even better teacher. You must attend in order to be successful as in-class materials are important. Do not be scared to interject this is a philosophy and there are no right answers except for what's going to be on the test. He doesn't care about you that much show up to class.
This class can be complicated if you do not attend class or ask questions when you do not understand. Take notes as much as you can. Exams are open note, but do attend class every day. The essays are very hard without notes, do not wait last minute and take advantage of office hours. Read the extra credit, it really helps your grade by a lot!!!
Very funny professor, he does have quizzes every week which will be easy if you show up to class and take notes, he basically gives you the answers during his lectures. Same thing for essays and exams.Overall not a hard class but attendance is mandatory. Also- not boring, he always tried to engage students in class and make it interesting for us.
you have to take a lot of notes and his handwriting isn't the best.
Took this instructor for Intro to World Religion, and he was born to be a professor. The lectures are great, and attendance is a must since the exams count for the majority of your grade. You may not use notes during exams, which are taken in class using Scantron forms. He does grade on a curve, so a few points are added to your exam scores.
WE LOVE YOU ANDERSON. YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE!!!!!!
Take his class! Most negative reviews seem to be from folks experiencing some sort of shock and are unable to accept the standard of academic rigor that Mark sets out. There's a PLETHORA of extra cred. Seek resources/office hours (it's YOUR education, right?) & engage. Thinking is hard, but who would you be if you didn't? Tough luck 4 zombies.
He is the best professor that I have ever had.
There is no textbook or outside material, so you must attend class to stay up to date. That being said, I never dragged my feet on my way there. Mr. Anderson is very passionate about philosophy and is an amazing storyteller. Going to class feels like watching a play. Lots of extra credit opportunities
Very cool and funny professor. Just show up on time and pay attention, and it's easy to because he's very engaging. You should be on time because there are short quizzes at the beginning of class, they aren't worth much points but they add up
His lectures were entertaining and straightforward. There were quizzes covering content discussed in lectures so its helpful to take good notes. His tests and essays required a basic understanding of what he was teaching and why its important. He seems to like your ability to reason and compare topics
Professor Anderson is an engaging lecturer, but his class requires diligence. Attend every session, take detailed notes, and utilize resources like the free textbook and unstuck AI for exam prep. Essays can be challenging, so don't hesitate to visit office hours. Overall, a rewarding philosophy course.
His lectures are engaging and easy to follow. As long as you pay attention in class you will do well on the exams. Many extra credit opportunities as well!
I love him so much he talks so elegantly and intellectually but he's soooo funny, he makes the class so interesting. He's my favorite professor I've ever had and the only professor that has made me want to join their club lol.
I thought this class was one of my favorites so far. If you are in class, and paying attention, the class is super easy. I really appreciated that he made sure that all students were included in his conversation style lectures. I also find it easier to understand content when the professor is engaged and interested. I really enjoyed this class.
While this was an extremely hard class for me, Mr. Anderson was always accessible outside of class, and always clarified certain terms I was confused on during office hours. In addition, he always made the class discussions extremely fun and inclusive. If you have to take Philosophy, I HIGHLY recommend taking him.
Mr. Anderson is very funny and gives great lectures. I never thought that I would enjoy a philosophy class ever but he made it so fun. However, he is a tough grader and some of his test questions have what looks like two right answers. But he offers extra credit before every test which helps.
Never thought I would take an interest in philosophy, but this professor makes the material so engaging. I enjoyed attending his class - there was never a dull moment, never contemplated skipping. I only recommend taking quality notes and paying attention to every bit of detail the professor talks about, since it's likely going to be on the exam.
Amazing professor, wish I was still in his class, made me want to show up everyday. Pay attention, Study, and this class will be easy.
Life changing course if you deeply engage with the material and consider the questions he urges you to ask yourself. Pop quizzes over lectures are inevitable and deliberate to make you attend class because he is incredibly passionate about what he teaches. It is a course meant to make you find reasoning behind your morality and perspective on life.
Overall amazing teacher, his classes were very intriguing, easy and he is very enthusiastic on the subject he teaches. All you have to do to pass is take notes and everything else will be easy. Definitely recommend to everyone!
His class is very fun and easy to engage!! His exams are hard, however he always gives multiple opportunities for extra credit!!!! As long as you participate and study, you will get an A.
