Well structured class,very helpful and insightful professor. Straight forward grading and assignments well explained. If a little effort is put in, it is a guarenteed good grade.

Awesome teacher. He repeats himself a lot but when it comes down to it he definately helped me a lot. It is a pretty easy class, but there is some work involved. As long as you "try" then you basically are guaranteed a good grade.

Mark August is great. He is such a great professor and he is really lenient on his grading of speeches. Excellent guy all around. Talks a mile a minute!

Nice guy, means well, knows his subject. straightforward assignments. Workload was a bit excessive for a required 100 level class. Obsessed with visual aids. I was bored but that's just because I hate any classes having to do with english lit or language.

Prof. August is awesome. He always willing to help at anytime. He grades very fairly as well. IN 210 you have two major projects but they are easy. You do yours for ten mins and then get to sleep through everyone elses for half the semester. He does talk a mile a minute and is obsessed with time, but it gives you a good laugh.

Basically this guy is amazing and you need to take any class that he teaches! SUper helpful, learned a lot.

Prof. August is awesome!! He's a little obsessed with time and he talks fast sometimes but he is so helpful and if you ask him to clarify something he will!! He really loves getting to know the students and you should take advantage of that. The tests are multiple choice and the final isn't cumulative. There's a ton of reading, but it's not hard.

He is awesome! Not a hard class at all but you learn alot. The presentations are fun and pretty easy to do. You have to go to class and read. The tests arent super complicated but you deff have to study. Take a class with him if you can!!

Prof August is as great guy, he really cares about his students and how well you do. Class consists of 1 paper, 2 quizzes, midterm, final, and 2 presentations. He's really nice about the presentations, he knows people are nervous and is really supportive. DEFINITLY take Com 100 with him.

In all honesty Professor August was my favorite professor to date. He knew what he was talking about and he was very understanding in every situation. The class is not hard if you just do the work and there is never homework or classwork. It was easy if you did the work to your ability. He sees that and respects that. 11% recommended.

Very helpful professor, 2 presentations (1 group, 1 individual) which I got A's on both and 1 paper which I also got an A on. There are 2 quizzes, and a midterm + final. I did not study for either because it was Com 100 and I just got lazy... study for them or I would have had an A in the class and not a C+!

Fantastic teacher. Keeps class interesting and grades very clearly. Has two surprise quizzes during the semester, but gives you advice on how to ace the quizzes and midterm and final. Usually working in small groups in the class, but as long as you read the chapters once, and review before exams, you will do well

Hated the book in this class, but its use is mandated by the college; aside from that this class was great and Prof. August was very helpful and encouraging. Everyone's public speaking had really improved visibly by the end of the class.

Great Professor, really helps you out alot. As far as the class goes; 1 paper, 2 graded presentations, midterm and final, and 2 "surprise" quizzes. Sounds like alot of work but the way the class is paced, its really easy to get it all done. If you have to take this class, take it with August.

GREAT PROFESSOR! If you get a chance, take some of his classes! Also a great URI 101 teacher. He does talk a little fast, but always clarifies things. Very understanding and likes to get to know his students. This class has: 1 Paper 1 Individual Presentation 1 Group presentation a Midterm and a Final. TAKE THIS CLASS. VERY INTERESTING!

Professor August is by far the most helpful, considerate, caring professor I have ever had at URI. He truly cares about his students and wants them to do well. There are a lot of ways to get your grade up and attendance is mandatory, but it's worth it to go. The material was harder than I anticipated, but he helps you through it. It's not so bad.

Very helpful teacher,and very nice, really cares about students and wants to see them succeed. Gives plenty of opportunities to get up in front of class so by the time the graded presentation comes around, you aren't that nervous. Definitely take this class with him.

Really Really Easy Class. BUT, it is sooo boring you will never study for anything and just put minimal effort into the graded work. Very hard to get motivated for this class. Should have been an easy A but just could not bring myself to read that awful book. Nice guy just boring class.

Love this professor! Favorite one! Majority of his grade is participation. 3 major projects - 1 essay comparing textbook chapters to scenes in a movie of your choice, 1 group presentation, 1 solo presentation. 1 quiz on the 1st 7 chapters (all vocab) within first half of semester, midterm only on chapters 1-7, then final. Easy A, Recommended x100!!

August is a great teacher! Such a nice guy and he has the class help you critique your presentations, not to make you feel discouraged, but to help you in the future and it truly helps

Professor August is an awesome teacher. You are allowed three absences and he is very accommodating. I've had him three times and wish he taught more come classes. The class is mostly projects and presentations with only one paper and 2 exams. Take Com 210 with him.

Mark August is honestly the first professor I've had where I marked almost all 5's on his analysis. I took this class second semester, sophomore year. I was incredibly nervous about public speaking but his small-scale class made me feel comfortable throughout the semester. He is one of the nicest professrs I've met so far. Very approachable.

very confused why he has so many great reviews. He was a good prof. you will learn a lot about public speaking but this is not the class to take for an easy section of com100. listening to him talk about the syllabus every single day was the most irritating experience. lot of practice public speaking. not as easy of a grader as you would think.

Prof August is a great great great teacher. He makes his classes very interesting and he is not boring at all. he wants everybody to succeed in his class. He won't make you feel bad about yourself if you aren't a good presenter but he is very supportive. there is a lot of reading and vocabulary. tons of vocab actually but its an easy class.

Had him for both URI 101 and COM. Great professor, great person. Really seemed to take an interest in his students. DON'T LET THE WORK CATCH UP TO YOU- read the chapters that are due on the syllabus (about 2 a week) and learn the vocabulary, otherwise it will be time for the final and you will have 415 words to memorize and you will hate yourself.

One of my favorite teachers as a freshman. Very clear about how the entire semester will run and is very helpful especially for students making the transition from high school to college. Class involves multiple presentations of course but he is always supportive!

Mark August is an amazing teacher. He can drag on but he is truly there to help. My advice is to study the vocab and study it throughout the course, I did not read any of the book but memorized all 400 vocab words and there definitions and did great.

Mark is a wonderful teacher. He talks for hours so if you missed something he said he will probably say it again. Great sense of humor and easy to talk to. He rolls a lot. Easy class. He is like the father I have never had.

Mark is unbelievable. Since my first class he reminded me of Henry J. Waternoose, another great leader. He is extremely helpful and gives out candy on Halloween. "Roll" is his favorite word. Repeats just about everything but is a great teacher. Gives numerous opportunities to practice public speaking. Roll.

Even for introductory courses, he really helps you connect what you are learning to life outside the classroom, which makes paying attention and doing the work easier. He is a great guy. I had him for COM 100 and URI 101 and he was a very great instructor for both of those classes. I would absolutely take another class with him. He is very helpful and genuinely cares about his students and how they are doing in the class. He is very clear and not a difficult teacher at all. Take a class with him if you can!!!

I had Professor August for COM 100, URI 101, and COM210 and he is by far my favorite professor at URI. He explains everything at least twice and in different ways for his students to better understand what's going on. He uses the textbook as a manual, so there's no heavy reading. Overall, he's great and I've learned a lot in all of his classes.

He is a great professor, one of the best I have had. Genuinely cares about students. Put in the work and you will do fine. He constantly is checking in with students so they know where they are grade wise and making sure students stay on top of their work.

What can I say... He said roll a lot, and made me motivated to roll through the semester. He has a good sense of humor. If you ask to reenact the first Thanksgiving he will give a jolly laugh and tell you you have a good sense of humor. Make sure to take this course in the fall because he brings in Halloween candy. Now. We will check our syllabus.

Easily the most organized professor I have ever & will ever have. Every class starts with going over the syllabus and plan for the rest of the day, week and semester. Lots of group work. He makes sure you know how your grades are throughout the semester. Study a little bit for tests & quizzes , take advice he gives on speeches and you'll be fine

Such a sweet man, loves his students and what he is talking about. Sometimes goes on rants but not too boring. Few presentations, grades on attendance and participation also. Exams and quizzes are all on vocab and easy if you study.

Mark is the man! My class was about 30 kids and he managed to make the class feel personal yet comfortable. He gives great feedback and is a fair grader. The amount of presentations are fair and he gives you more than enough time to prepare for them. I would definitely take him again no question. He is a great guy and awesome teacher!

Great Professor, definitely one of the most caring professors ive had. Really cares about his students and becoming a better presenter. At first it may seem like more work than other classes you hear about but by the time you get to actual graded presentations and quizzes you will realize his class is super easy to do well in. It's been awhile since I have had this man. In fact I am a senior and had him freshman year but I dream about his great leadership skills. I would compare him to Gandalf. If you skip class for awhile then show up and ask for a party, he may grant you one because he cares about your well-being. He brought in Halloween candy for Halloween which was thoughtful. Professor August is such a genuine guy. He is very encouraging and his classes are easy however he only allows 3 absences so pick wisely. He always explains what you did wrong on tests if you did and always adds extra points to all tests. Just an overall awesome teacher. Definitely take his class!

Professor August is a very caring professor who offers lots of help to his students. This course was easy as long as you attend class and do the little work he assigns. There are two big presentations at the end of the semester, but he grades fairly easily.

He's a wonderful professor. His lectures are great introductions to the subject. He will be very thorough in his explanation of all the different topics as well. He is an easy grader for the most part. Just make sure that you study for his exams as those can be a little challenging

Prof. August was great! He really cares about his students and they success. He gave clear instructions for all projects. You do need to show up for class, you only get 2 unexcused absences before it impacts your grade for the worse. He is very understanding if an emergency comes up though. Overall great guy and great course.

Dr. August was a great professor. One group project, one individual speech, and all homework is due the last day of class. Attendance is part of the grade and is mandatory. There is a bit of reading associated with the class, be sure to do it so you can participate in the lecture (which is also part of the grade). This class was very relaxed.

Professor August is a really cool guy and also the best public speaker I've ever seen. I took the class j-term so it was only 2 weeks long (w 5 hour classes) and I wasn't bored at all. He keeps you engaged with group projects and class participation. Easy A if you show up and do the work on time. also you only need the textbook for online homework

I took COM100 with Prof August over J-Term, and he made it as fun as possible while also covering a semester's worth of material in 2 weeks. He has clear grading criteria and wants makes sure that he answers any questions before a quiz/exam. Very nice guy and really enjoys teaching the material. He wants everyone to get something out of his class.

Professor August is great. He sticks to the syllabus and assigns a very reasonable amount of work. Directions are clear, and he truly wants you to learn. Attend class, do the assignments, ask questions, and you're good to go.

I took this class online during the summer over a 5 week course. The class were 3.45 hours long but cut short most days. Professor August is a great teacher and helped to make the classes fly by. He kept us all involved and provided wonderful feedback and information. I would highly recommend taking him if possible.

Prof. August is one of my fav professors at URI. He is so nice and cares about all of his students. He is super lenient if students are sick and if you can't get the work in on time, he gives you time. I always look forward to his class and is super informative.

Prof. August is easily my favorite prof this semester. He is so caring and wants the best for his students. Hwk is a little tedious not going to lie, but it's certainly not difficult. I really enjoyed his class, but only take it if you don't mind presentations. You have to actively try to fail this class. Take this class if it fulfills a gen-ed!

Prof August was the best. I had him for both URI 101 and also COM 100. He is a very caring professor and really wants you to succeed in his classes. They are not difficult at all. You have to do individual and group presentations throughout the COM class which are very simple. Would definitely take a class with him again.

Most classes are presentations (all for participation grade until end of sem) and reflecting on +/- of the presentation. Doesn't really cover textbook material in class but need to know textbook material for midterm and final exam. Makes expectations clear and doesn't grade very harshly. Keeps track of attendance and will dock points if you miss

I took this class over the J-Term and Professor Mark was a really easy grader. Midterm and final were very easy as long as you read the key terms in the book. There are no suprise questions, no trick questions, and no which answer is more written questions. Most of our presentations were ungraded and I liked that because it was great practice.

I loved the layout of the class, really clear and easy to know what is coming up. He really tries to know his students and does do participation. I do not like public speaking but I actually ended up being ok in his class.

He didn't teach anything first hand, but relied on Connect homework which I thought was kind of strange.

One of the best professors I have had the pleasure of guiding me as a communications freshman student here. His coursework is not too much, organized, always engaging, gives good feedback, and overall creates such a positive environment that I always look forward to going to class.
