He is a pretty good lecturer. Keeps class interesting. Genuinely wants everyone to do well. Uses clicker a lot so go to class.Very entertaining.
He is an interesting professor. He has great slides but they don't go well with the exams he give. He goes over questions that are too easy and some are not on the exams. His exams are mainly focus on one big topic. Not everything he says is going to be on the exam even if he said that it will be. Overall, he is better than alot of other professors
Prof. Baillie is really knowledgeable about the material, but cannot explain it properly. He ends up going over the same topic so many times that he just confuses everyone even more. His office hours do not help either. He puts all of his lecture material with voice over online which is helpful, but listening to him lecture twice is still confusing
Great personality but horrible professor. Slide are not helpful, basically just easy basic problems taken directly out of the textbook. The conceptual things we learn are too basic and he seems obsessed with clicker questions. Very kind and nice, though. But I suggest wingrave, he may be difficult but he curves so it's impossible to FAIL his class.
Get ready to teach yourself everything. The slides are jack. The problems we go over are easy while the exam is 1000 times harder than the easy problems.I suggest getting at tutor cuz office hours don't help/
He tries to help but often misspeaks during explanations and confuses people even more. The tests are difficult for most people. Clicker questions all the time and at least two online homework assignments per week. I learn in his class and he wants people to do well, just seems to ramble in circles, get lost in thought and say something inaccurate.
He is a terrible teacher. His exams are so difficult and so much that he doesn't teach in class. If you have him, switch out as soon as possible. He will make mistakes on the PowerPoints he use and he is very cocky! His notes does nothing for the exams. You have to teach chemistry to yourself.
I think that he is actually the worst professor in the world. He's rude, inconsiderate. And he literally can't teach. Don't take him!!!! If you do your going to regret it like seriously!
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. Maybe he has a PhD in orgo, but he has a zero in teaching skills. He can't convey anything, so be prepared to teach yourself everything. All tests are impossible because he can't explain anything. We all sit aggravated because all he does is make mistakes and then blame us for them. What a waste of my education.
If you are taking this class, prepare to invest a LOT of time studying and teaching yourself topics. Dr. Baillie is smart and loves chem, but for some reason it doesn't always translate to students. I wouldn't say he's a bad teacher, chem is extremely hard to teach in such a short period of time and thats not his fault. I would say he's decent.
WORST TEACHER EVER!! He has no interest in helping or teaching his students. You have to invest a lot of your time studying on your own. He loves giving clicker quizzes the last 30 seconds of class and only gives you 2 seconds to click in. His test are 15 pages long and make no sense. Just do yourself a favor and don't take him!
I dont understand why everyone is saying he's such an awful teacher. He is so nice! He is probably one of the only teachers that goes out of his way to have extra office hours during exams and really cares about the success of his students. Chem is hard and he's new so he's still figuring things out, but if you put in the time you can do well.
Just because he has a lot of office hours that does not mean that they help, they are pointless. He NEVER knows what he is talking about. He will post homework assignment randomly. He does not curve. Even when he made the test to long for the time given, he still did not curve. The class average was BELLOW a 50. Want to FAIL take Baillie!
Do not listen to the people that bad talk him. First of all the people who do think this they should simply be handed an A for showing up to class and taking the exams. I personally think he's very helpful and if your ever having a problem or unclear about something he's always available to help. He's very understanding and helpful. People are lazy
Chemistry is a challenging subject to begin with but Baillie really does his best to make it not suck all that bad. He cares about how his students are doing and genuinely wants everyone to do well. There are plenty of opportunities to bring up your grade and he has a lot of office hours. You also get a notecard for each test... and he's hot.
If want a professor who truly cares about your success, take baillie. He does not want his student to fail and works really hard to provide all the help he can give. Some students argue he is not helpful at office hours, but many do not study prior to them and expect to be taught. You do really have to work hard and if you do you will succeed.
lecture never makes sense. You can only do well on the test if you can teach yourself everything.
He's a nice guy who cares about his students, just put in a little extra effort while studying and ask your TAs if you want a clear and quick answer cause he tends to ramble on.
No one can ever understand what he's trying to say, we just sit in lecture so confused and aggravated. He also goes through the material super fast and expects all all to instantly get it. Personally I think he doesn't have good social skills and is a bit rude
He isn't a HORRIBLE teacher, but he could teach the same material in class that is on the tests. Put it this way. If I didn't go to class, I would have the same grade.
Baillie isn't as bad as most people say he is. Most of the people that complain don't pay attention to his lectures and don't go to his office hours. He's very willing to help and gives extra office hours during exam weeks which most professors don't bother doing. He makes amusing jokes every once in a while and does try to connect with students.
I liked him up until his second test which was absolutely impossible. The class average was below a 50% and made it so long that 90% of the class couldn't even finish the exam. His office hours are a waste of time. Anything on the tests are not discussed in class. OVERALL HORRIBLE.
Dr. Baillie is a great teacher if you are willing to put in the time and effort to do well in his class. Most of the naysayers on this forum are the students that don't pay attention and don't try in the class and come test time complain that he doesn't teach when they are the ones that don't put in the effort. Dr. Baillie is always there to help.
As a first year professor, Dr. Baillie is great. You won't get an A just by going to class and studying the night before, you will actually have to put in the extra time and work for it, but that goes for any chemistry class. He is so helpful and wants students to succeed. Go to office hours and put in the extra time and you will be fine!
WORSE TEACHER EVER. Don't take him. His exams are difficult and he doesn't curve them
Dr. Baillie is my boy. I don't much for the class and I have an A. You just have to read prior to lecture and you should be good. He is a cool dude. I don't know what these people are talking about. I'm getting straight As. Just work hard and you'll be good. Quit being lazy, simple as that. It's not hard.
Dr. Baillie is a very sweet person. He will do every thing in his power to help you. Many people expect to get an A without putting in the work. He makes many resources available to you (worksheets, practice problems, office hours, etc.) Work hard and you can get an A!!
Hes a nice guy and willing to help you but if you don't understand chemistry you're screwed. I read the book and am always at lecture and always in office hours but it doesn't help because his exams are are HARD! especially the open ended. Not a very good teacher
He's really rude and doesn't necessarily care if you pass or fail his test. Overhearing him talk to someone about his classes, he will think you're stupid if you don't do well in the class. He's not willing to help you out. Basically, you should avoid his class.
I go to office/TA hours every week, attend all labs, lectures&do all my homework, I have not passed a test all semester & he doesn't care. He is confusing & when explains things is often wrong/forgets to correct himself. Nice person, horrible teacher. Curves nothing & the avg is always around a 50%. S/O to those with an A….?
So excited to be done with this class. I am very scared about what my grade is going to be. His class has defiantly dropped my GPA. The first exam pretty easy. The second imposible with an average of 50%. The third seemed doable but i got a 69% and the adverage was only a 56%. I guess thats why you only need a 50 to pass.
I'm not sure why everyone says he is a bad teacher. Yes the class is difficult but that is to be expected. Regardless of the teacher Chem 103 is a difficult course. Which is why Dr. Baillie goes out of his way to try and help as much as possible, whether it is by setting up additional office hours pre-exam, or scheduling personal meetings with you.
CHEM103 is a hard class to begin with, and Baillie doesn't make it any easier. He goes over material quickly and doesn't care if you don't understand. This class continuously frustrates me and I dread going to it. I have studied and tried all semester long, but his tests are impossible to pass.
If you want your grade to be in the toilet, go ahead and take Baillie. This class was a nightmare, and he doesn't care that literally everyone is struggling, which is apparent through the test averages never being above a 50%. Class doesn't even help and he doesn't care how you do.
He's an EXTREMELY tough grader, but we were allowed note cards on the exams so I feel like that's a fair trade. He moves quickly, which is tough but understandable with the amount of material. He noticed when I missed class and asked after it. He's rather friendly, just a tough teacher.
he's tough and doesn't curve the exams, evemn though they're really hard. however he is really nice and if you study hard and go to office hours, he'll try to help you! you have to try though because if you go wanting him to teach you it aint gonna happen
Baillie is a horrible teacher who doesn't explain anything. His lectures don't make any sense and he normally can't even do the practice problems that we do in class. He doesn't care about the well being of students, and doesn't curve exams at all.
He's honestly not a bad professor. I thought his exams were always fair, and you even get a notecard on each exam. Chem is a hard course, and you can't expect to be babied. Go to his office hours and he will try to help you.
Baillie was not a bad professor. The class is chemistry so it's a given that its going to be difficult and that some students need to put in extra time to do well. Considering the lectures were 250 students, Baillie ran classes well. He does his best to make sure people understand and trys to add some humor into lecture to keep the class interested
If you expect an easy class, then don't take him. However, Dr. Baillie really cares about whether his students learn. He posts many resources for students to practice the concepts, and offers many help sessions before exams. With some work you should get a decent grade in the class, especially with his refined grading scale. He's a good professor!
Dr. Baillie isn't difficult, Chem is difficult. Baillie cares about the students and does his best to help whenever he can, esp considering he has 300+ students. Going to class won't cut it. Put in the extra time and ask him for help if you need it and you will be fine!
Half of his class is spent looking over lecture slides that he has to correct. I went to go to him to correct a mistake on my test and he told me that he cant do it because he doesn't want to. He also changed the clicker quizzes point scale thus hurting me and dropping my grade. He seems like he cares but he is only saving his butt this semester
Baillie isn't a terrible teacher, but he's not very good either. His office hours are generally not helpful, but he knew that and attempted to fix them and help people out. He was really interested in helping people understand chem, but he's just not very good at lecturing. Like he'd often make mistakes while teaching. Not awful, but not great
chem 103 is very hard and the fact that he doesn't curve makes it even worse. he is probably one of the easiest chem 103 professors but that isn't saying much
He doesn't get enough credit. Chem is a hard subject, and that being he made it a point to keep the lectures interesting and provide more resources to try and help kids get better grades. Practice is key to doing well in this class. If you don't put the effort in you won't get the grade you want, simple as that.
Bailie will be very helpful but only if you ask him. He answers all my emails right away and although the class is hard (its chemistry its gonna be hard) he does care about his students. But do not be fooled you have to put in the time to do well in this class.
Baillie was an awesome professor. Don't listen to these people they just probably didn't do well in his class. You have to put in the work and study like crazy but that's because chemistry is a hard subject and he did a great job teaching it. I haven't taken chem since freshman year of high school and pulled an A.
Baillie is a work in progress. His first semester teaching was kind of a mess but in the end, he was very fair. He replaced our lowest test grade with our final exam grade which helped me out a LOT. I decided to try Dr. Fajardo for 104 and found that her teaching methods work better for me. I wouldn't go back to Baillie, but I truly do respect him
Baillie has many areas to improve on. I feel like he does not care much about his students grades. Chem is a hard class that requires a lot of time and work, but I feel he could have been a bit more fair and do a better job of explaining the material. I wouldn't recommend him personally, but I know many people who would.
Baillie is really nice and extremely smart but a terrible professor. He knows too much information and doesn't know how to apply it too teaching. His notes are all over the place and he barely teaches you the steps for math problems. He's a newer professor and needs a lot of work. I wouldn't take his class if you're not the strongest in chem.
Baillie is too smart. He has a hard time making things clear to people with average knowledge. Even when I went for help I left more confused. He's a great guy but difficult to understand.
Professor Baillie teaches horribly. He doesn't explain anything, and tests on the most minute details. The tests are impossible and he gives pop clicker quizzes every week. avoid him
This is a very challenging course. The material is much harder than chem 103, so don't miraculously expect to do better in 104 than 103. He gave us weekly online quizzes which really boosted the grade. The class itself was very fair, it was just very hard. Do not get behind. Try your hardest and an A is not impossible... just difficult
Baillie is by far one of my favorite professors at UD. Lectures are interesting and teaches complex concepts in simpler ways. He prepares you for what the exams very well, and exams are very fair. This class is not easy and you have to pay attention in lectures and do the homeworks. He is also very helpful during office hours.
Dr. Baille's classes are hard, but that's typical of any chemistry class. He really cares about how his students are doing and is more than willing to help you if he sees you're putting in effort. His lectures can be confusing, so I advise reading the text book before class to better understand the material.
Great professor. Office hours very helpful. Difficult class with abundance of material, but you can do well if you put in the effort. Hes passionate about the subject so Baillie is fun to learn from. Lecture usually isnt boring. Youll have to read the textbook and attend class. Exams are difficult but there are many opportunities to boost grade.
Chemistry is a difficult subject but Baillie does a pretty good job of explaining the broad topics, however expect to do a lot of learning and memorization outside of the classroom. His lectures are usually fairly interesting, he does his best to keep students engaged. His tests are in incredibly difficult so prepare to study hard.
There are a lot of opportunities to gain extra points like homeworks, labs, and workshops. His tests are hard, but they are manageable. His lectures aren't boring and he engages everyone by having clicker questions and problems you can discuss with the people sitting around you. Also, his use of technology is amazing.
A great professor who genuinely wants his students to understand the reason for the content we learn in class. Material is challenging, and so are his tests, but there is plenty of opportunity to get help and succeed. In lecture, he makes an effort to remember everyone's name, and it is a very comfortable learning environment.
Baillie is very organized and all policies and grading scale is super clear-cut. Tests are very tough, even when studying a lot. His lectures tend to confuse students-- he is very smart and struggles to explain what he knows to students who don't get the material. He can also come off as arrogant in a way, but deep down, he is a nice guy.
Dr. Baillie really cares about his students. Although he doesn't curve and his exams are hard, he is always available for extra help and makes sure we understand everything in class before he moves on. There is a lot of online homework and quizzes but they're easy and will help boost your grade. Lab will save you. I highly suggest him.
If you are willing to put in the time and effort, Baillie is an amazing professor. His lectures are extremely concise and he always puts extra emphasis on topics that he says he will be testing the class on. As someone said earlier, Baillie is not a hard professor, chem is just a hard subject. Highly recommend this guy, definitely taking him again
Awful. Baillie is very rude, too smart for everyone. 13 of the tests are not taught in class as he relies on the TAs to teach problems which never get taught. Exams are impossible except for the first one . As a freshmen you won't have a choice if you get him but just go to class, study hard, and you should get a B at least.
Overall this class is tough. Dont expect an easy run with it even if you took AP chem. As far as the professor himself, he schedules exams on SATURDAYS!!! ONE SATURDAY WAS THE DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN SO WHILE EVERYONE WAS OUT PARTYING THE CLASS HAD TO STUDY . Doesn't really care if you know the material or not and often times just leaves it up hanging
Hardest class i've ever taken by far. Bailie is too smart for his own good and struggles to explain introductory topics. He assumes you know things and builds upon them, whether you know them or not. Lab, online homework and clicker questions will save your grade. Also, he does saturday morning exams on top of the class already sucking enough.
Don't like the way he teaches. Each class consists of him doing problems on board but never explaining it. I walked out of lecture each day feeling like I've learned nothing. He's a smart guy but can't teach others. Exams are impossible; the class average on each exam was never higher than a 58 and he doesn't curve. Would avoid him if possible
I loved Dr. Baillie. He really explains things in ways that are pretty easy to understand. The homework and clicker questions and quizzes were EXTREMELY helpful, so go to class! He is my favorite professor so far, truly cares about his students, made me love chemistry! Wish I could take him again!
I really like Baillie, and his teaching style works for me. He can definitely come off as rude, and expects you to have a certain level of chemistry knowledge coming into his class. I brought my high school chemistry stuff with me and reference it often. I'm taking Baillie again for 104. His grading curve is helpful-a 59 in a C-.
Dr. Baillie is a nice guy and wants you to succeed. But you definitely need to work for it. Make sure to attend lectures, do the Sapling homework, and study. Don't study alone. His slides are always mixed uprepetitive, so make sure to review them before and after classes. See him if you need help. Chemistry is hard, so listen up and pay attention.
I'm a bio major so I had him for Chem 104. He doesn't really ask questions too much but he uses clicker questions and tries his hardest to include students in the material. He also likes to relate the chemistry to biology so if you're in a BISC course it'll be enjoyable. If you need help he does require specific questions. Would take again!
He is a great guy just a bit confusing. He is funny and kinda nice to look at but I hated going to class and the Sapling homework is the only way I learned. Always had to teach myself. He always takes attendance with clickers and it is a grade. I honestly would take him again if I had to, but wouldn't highly recommend for people.
Avoid taking him. Very difficult to pay attention in class, I left class everyday having no idea what it was that I just learned. He can make simple concepts and make them difficult. Although he is not the best in-class, he is very good in office hours and makes an effort to get to know his students, which is very nice.
He is the worst professor ever. He cannot explain things on a simple level for his students and makes learning way more complicated than it needs to be. He builds upon very tough concepts in every lecture and I always left feeling so confused. He fails to teach the basics of chem and his tests are extremely difficult with averages in the 50s.
I don't know why people are complaining about Baillie. He is a great teacher, chem is just a really hard subject. He is definitley worth taking especially with the final curve he has, a 78 is a B.
Dr. Baillie is not a bad professor; in fact, he's an excellent speaker and is very clear. The class itself is tough because it's Chemistry - not everyone's cup of tea, and certainly not mine. I hated the class, but not because of Baillie. He is one of the better CHEM professors out there!
This is a tough class. But Baillie was super helpful whenever I reached out. Sometimes it's foggy what will be on the test but overall he was a good teacher and I would recommend.
He doesn't explain things well, and he overcomplicates certain topics and how to find solutions. Definitely learned a LOT more from Sapling assignments. His tests are pretty tough and he words the questions in tricky ways. He's too smart to teach, and the textbook doesn't help much.
This was my favorite class of the semester. Really difficult at times but equally as rewarding when you put in the effort and do well. Lectures are interesting and Baillie does a great job of involving his students in them. He really makes an effort to learning everyones names. You get exactly what you put in to this class. Go to office hours!
Baillie is not a professor to complain about. He gave PLENTY of resources to do well. It was a LOT of work but as long as you used them, you could succeed. His office hours are awesome. Doesn't let you leave unless you understand. His lectures were often confusing but supplementing with online hw and the text helped. Taking again for CHEM104.
I think he gets a worse rap than he deserves around campus. He's a new professor so he does somewhat struggle with conveying complicated chemistry concepts to his students. He came from the industry and is sometimes too smart for his own good. His class is hard, but if you give him a chance he's there to help.
Get out of Integrated. There is nothing more for me to say. If you don't have a solid chemistry background, you're screwed. He expects you to know a lot and if you don't have the basis from high school- you're going to struggle. He has a HUGE curve so that helps a lot but it's still a very difficult class.
He's a nice guy, kind of awkward, but he means well. His class was very hard however, especially if you don't have a knack for chemistry. The sapling homework was my saving grace, do it early it helps to follow along with lectures. He will call on people at random in class, so if you don't want that hope he doesn't know your name. Read the book
He is not very good at teaching. Make sure you study all the sapling before the exam. Some MC on the exam are hard, but the short answers are fair. Be careful on MC because they worth a lot on the exam.
Baillie is not a nice professor that is not in any way willing to help his students. He makes the class way harder than it needs to be and has a habit of speeding through topics, giving little explanation or emphasis on what he is "teaching".
Tough class- tests were very difficult especially if you are not good at chemistry. Homework, class participation and workshop attendance save your grade. Not very good at explaining topics in class- classes were often off topic and half the time no one knew what he was talking about.
If you don't learn from powerpoints, you better find a way to. Or get a really good tutor.
Baillie is a great professor. People who don't think so didn't take advantage of his office hours because they made everything so clear. I'm awful at chem but his lectures were super clear and he was helpful if you approached him.
One of my favorite professors, he knew me by name and sincerely wanted me to understand what was going on and for me to do well. If you show that youre trying he will do as much as he can to help. I had never taken chem before and did need to work for my grade but his tests are really fair. Lectures are interesting, he cares about what hes teaching
I had him for both Chem 103 & Chem 104. Liked him at first, but further into the semester he comes off harsh and does not care about his students at all. The only good thing I have to say is that he knows what he's talking about and sapling homework is helpful.
I took baillie for 103 and enjoyed it so much I signed up for him for 104. He cares a lot about the students and will try to help if you are willing to ask. Both classes were hard but you will do fine if you study and go to office hours. Clicker points matter, go to class, and participate. He LOVES participation.
Baillie is new to teaching and he's still trying to learn the ropes. His lectures are long and not really helpful. He speeds through his slides and doesn't give his students a chance to copy down the notes. His exams are long and hard to the point where students can't finish. Try going to his office hours, he's really helpful when he can be.
Can have a condescending vibe and is edgy at times, but is a dedicated professor. Goes to some workshop and bio integrated classes. Is friendly and approachable most of the time. Very knowledgable about subject matter and keeps students participating. Exams can have a few curveballs but possible to overcome them by playing close attention in class.
Dr Baillie is a good professor. He is very clear about his grading criteria and gives some extra credit. This class isn't easy but his teaching styles makes it easier. The labs were unbearable and tedious. The only thing about his teaching that i do not like is that he insists on having integrated which make it a pain to register for his classes.
Dr. Baillie is too smart to teach an elementary chem class. His teaching methods are confusing and half of the time in lectures he contradicts himself. Tests are ridiculous and lectures are boring. His office hours are helpful and almost mandatory if you want to understand anything thats going on. Nice guy, but needs more experience teaching.
Baillie isn't as bad as everyone claims. He just has HIS way of explaining things. It took me most of 103 to understand his thinking, but it made 104 so much easier. Here's the key to success; don't take notes in lecture. Yeah that's right. PAY ATTENTION in lecture and listen to what he says, and then reference the slides he posts online afterwards
Dr. Baillie really is a great professor and person overall. If you show up to his class, pay attention and do the work, you will do well. Additionally, he really cares about his students and their success, so he will help you to the best of his abilities. I recommend taking his class, I myself would definitely take him again.
Overall, Dr. Baillie is a pretty good professor. I had my doubts entering his class from the previous comments I read on here, but he ended up being much better than expected. His test are tough, but if you print out his lecture notes and pay attention in class, everything is doable. He is good at explaining things if you actually try to understand
He is a pretty good teacher. Even though you do not have to have too much background of chemistry, you can get good grades. You need to put a little bit effort on the homework, and class. It is an easy B. With effort you can get an A.
doesnt curve and you will work your ass off for nothing. take another teacher
I had my doubts, but he really is not that bad. If you pay attention in lecture, do the homework, and review notes at least 5 days before exams you'll be fine. If you need help, go to office hours and stop complaining because there are plenty of TAs and professors willing to help you. Very generous grading scale (78B) too.
Dr. Baillie is great. Hes really sarcastic, but its funny and as long as you pay attention and raise your hand and try, he'll like you. His lectures weren't bad if you pay attention and take notesprint the slides, and dont be afraid to ask questions. Tests are hard but doable and the grading scale helps. Honestly chem became my favorite class
He's a great professor and really knows his Chemistry! He really explains thoroughly if you don't understand. Just make sure to drop by office hours or ask help from the TAs. Don't skip class. Everything you need to learn are in his powerpoints, lectures, and any worksheets he assigns. His tests are tough, but as long as you study, you'll do great!
Office hours are not, show up and get answers, they are essential to actually grasping the material. He is a nice guy but can come off as a bit condescending. I don't think he means it though. Between lab, work shop, sapling, test curves, and clickers, there is no reason you should fail. You can miss class in a pinch but don't make it a habit.
Definitely is there to help you out - make use of his office hours! Study in groups for this class. Always do the online homework (sapling) because it'll help out your grade! Having a good lab grade will boost your overall grade, as well. He called on me every lecture so make sure to pay attention.
Hands down best teacher I've had at UD so far. Explains everything with clarity and makes sure to engage student as much as possible. Definitely take him - it will be worth it! Offers tons of help.
Dr. Baillie is an amazing professor. I took him for integrated Chem103 and he is always willing to help and be there for his students. He covers most of the exam material in class and tries to make class as interesting as possible. If you go to office hours, he will learn your name and WILL call on you randomly during class. Best professor I've had
I had him for 103 and thought I was going to fail because I struggled with chem in high school. However, he spent time learning everyone's names in our 200 person lecture class and always kept everyone engaged. The course itself is difficult, but he tailors homework and quizzes to help you succeed. Take him for 103/104.
Baillie can be mean but as long as you participate and attend office hours and show the effort, he will love you. In his lectures he's very good at explaining chemistry extremely clearly and making it easy as possible. His sapling homeworks help immensely in understanding the material. Definitely take Baillie if you can.
Baillie was a great professor. Probably the best I've had at UD so far. I had him for both 103 and 104 and he was always clear and concise in explanation and his lectures are not boring at all. I guarantee you will understand chem after taking him. Take him.
I got a B+ in Chem103 with another professor, but I didn't respond well to Baillie's unique teaching style and I struggled in class. I felt a lot of the class was teaching yourself. Being that he only teaches integrated, if you have an average professor for Bio, it becomes a lot of work trying to do well in both classes. TG for my workshop leader!
A LOT of sapling homework but they really help you. It gets kind of hard to handle with lecture, lab and workshop but doable. His lectures are really interactive and help you but sometimes stuff we didnt learn in class would be on the exam. Very vague about what is on the exams. Finals was absolutely horrendous. But overall, he is amazing.
Difficult to fail. His grading scale is very clear. The weekly sapling homeworks, workshop, clicker q's, and labs are all very easy grade boosters if you aren't a good test taker like me. He explains things very well and is open to questions. He looks over the class roster of 200 students and manages to call on them randomly and remember names!
Baillie is one of my favorite professors at UD. Although his lectures are pretty long, I'm always engaged and interested in what he has to say. He speaks very clearly and knows the material well. He's pretty helpful and gives many opportunities for learning outside of the classroom as well as daily tutoring. Tests are tough, but you can do well.
Baillie is one of the best professors I have ever had. He knows the material so well, and does an amazing job of actually educating students, as opposed to just letting them fend for themselves. There is online homework every week, but you get unlimited attempts on questions so they boost your grade. He's a little cocky, but in a good way.
Pretty easy if you just try, exams are just more in depth than what you go over in class
Baillie is the coolest. He goes over everything in class that will be on the exam. He has a great sense of humor and will work with you until you understand. The class itself isn't going to be a breeze but the way he teaches makes it as do-able as can be. Highly recommend Baillie. Take him over any other professor you are considering.
Baillie is a tough grader and requires participation in class, but it's so worth it. I have learned so much from his lectures. As long as you do the homework and pay attention, you'll pass for sure. He lets you use a notecard on every exam and is very helpful in office hours. Put in the work and you'll get an A.
Dr. Baillie is an awesome guy! He loves what he teaches so lectures aren't bad and he is very knowledgable. There are clicker questions in class so you do need to go. Exams are pretty straight forward but you do need to understand the material. you also can have a note card for every exam. theres a lot of homework but its really helpful & worth it.
Chill guy- go to class b/c it really helps; tests are really hard so study and go to office hours b/c he will help you. He's smart (and knows it unfortunately) but is always open to help you- read/prepare ahead so you can answer q's in class when he calls on you
Cares about his students wants them to do well. Do the work you'll be fine
Switched from non-integrated to integrated mid-year and he was very patient with me and noticed I was new and took time to get to know me and my strengths and weaknesses. My favorite teacher at UD in 2 years by FAR
The integrated part really sucks, but he really walks people through problems and clickers are participation grades. The exams are just like what he goes over in class, as long as you do the work you should do good in the class
Dr. Baillie has been my favorite professor at UD. He made chem so much better then it could have been. He uses materials that are easy to understand, and is there to help outside of class if you don't understand. He makes you pay attention to what he is saying. Expectations are fully laid out from the beginning, its still chem, and its still hard.
Good professor... Explains clearly, wants his students to do well, won't pass if you don't show to class. Exams are all his handouts in class
Dr. Baillie was my favorite professor this semester. He clearly is very knowledgable in the subject matter and connects class materials to real life issues. The exams are relatively hard but if you study the in class worksheets he hands out and the online assignments you'll be fine.
All you have to do to succeed is really try to understand the material presented in class. That involves being there each day and asking questions if confused, and easier said than done. But it is doable.
Dr. Baillie is a good professor and knows the material well. Class is not easy but it is not hard. The most important thing any student should know is if you are having trouble go to his office hours to understand. Most of the exams come directly from class so go to class.
Baillie is a great teacher, who really helps you understand the concepts and makes you think in ways that are different. I love having him as a chem professor, and highly recommend! He does give a lot of homework, but it all helps you understand and prepares you well for the exams.
Great overall teacher
Dr. Baillie is a great professor. He definitely wants all of his students to succeed and helps clearly explain concepts. If you put in the work, you can ace this class. Best move I made in his classes was to go to his office hours. He's super friendly and helpful, definitely made me more confident in my chem skills.
Lots of work but also good extra credit opportunities. Sapling online homework and quizzes can be tedious but they were also very helpful. Probably wouldn't have passed without them.
Dr. Baillie is extremely knowledgeable, so be prepared to be challenged by his lectures. The sapling homework helps understand topics tremendously. His teaching style works great for some people, but no so great for others. Be prepared for lots of clicker questions. He likes students that participate, so don't be afraid to raise your hand!
Dr. Baillie is a great professor who's main goal is to make sure the students understand the concepts of chemistry. He is always willing to help his students if they need it. In return, he expects students to work equally as hard. So the homework is time consuming, but if you work hard, he'll make sure you get the grade you deserve.
One of the best professors I have ever had. He always kept it interesting and I loved hearing his opinions on climate change.
Great professor. Definitely takes his time to make sure everyone understands the concepts. However, YOU need to put in the effort to get a good grade (going to office hours, contributing to class discussion, doing HW, etc.). Long story short, just work hard and you'll be okay!
Professor Baillie was known to be one of the best professors for CHEM107/108 at UD, but since he found out he is moving, he doesn't seem to care much anymore. A lot of things on his exams were the opposite of what he told us in class, and lots of other students complained about it.
ranks pretty high as one of the worst teachers I've had thus far. I have him now for gen chem at UALR. he's so needy. the fact that he stands in the corner and raises his hand when he wants attention like he's dealing with children is off putting. he wants you to pour your heart out to him. considering dropping just because of him as a person.
He is a very good professor. Anyone who does not agree is just upset because they are not putting as much effort into the class as he is. You are expected to do homework and reading outside of class. Thats a part of learning and getting a higher education. He is also really good with the conceptual side of things. He is very reasonable!
