Very interesting material.

Course is clear, prof is nice and cute..the best;)
Great prof! Used to be on Camp Cariboo, how cool is that?!
Very good lecturer, clear and interesting. So cute when he blushes, I'm in love!
HEY!!! THE BEST PROF EVER! HE WAS THE BEST! I ALWAYS LOVED HIS CLASSES! IT IS SOO COOL THAT HE WAS ON CAMP CARIBOO! KT
BEst Proff ever. I leared so much from him. He made school so much easier for me. IF you ever have him as a teacher be prepared for a fun exciting course!
thanks for an amazing semester
This prof was nice and always willing to help out his students.his lectures were pretty good. But this class has an insane amount of work so beware....the TA(Joy) was good also.
Clear, interesting lectures, even funny somtimes. Helpful, approchable, laidback. But the psyc adviser was right when she said "M.B is not an easy marker." His tests are fair and quite do-able. But he was harsh when evaluating all other things. TA seems to be bit harsh on marking too. Also, this course should be like 4.5 credits-SO MUCH workload
Boring class - Dr. Baldwin is a dull lecturer - among my least favorite courses I have taken at McGill - I advise you to skip this one!
With his jaded outlook and lack of interest in most of our questions, Professor Baldwin absolutely killed my enthusiasm for research psychology (and I was considering making it my career). He can be a competent lecturer on particular topics (e.g., the self) - but if you're new to the field and looking for inspiration, i recommend staying away.
Great teacher! Clear, concise and interesting lectures. While he may not be as dynamic as other psychology teachers at McGill, he's definitely a good prof who cares about his students. For example, for the term paper, he added extra office hours and was very clear and helpful in his explanations of what he wanted. Fun class. :)
Professor expects too much from undergraduate students but you do learn a lot in this class.
This class is like a combo of cognition and social psych, and very interesting. The midterm was a joke, easiest test I've ever taken (but it is short answer). He is adorable and I find him hilarious!! The textbook is death, but he doesn't test any irrelevant details; only the big theories. Final is non-cumulative and weights your better mark
Most amazing prof. Interesting classes, almost no homework, but be prepared to read. Social Psychology is interesting, but he made it the best class to take, ever.
I loved this professor! Amazing! Extremely clear lectures and answers classtextbook questions in depth and exceptionally well. Ensures that everyone is on the same page. There is a great deal in textbooks that you will need to cover apart from the lectures but class was just so exceptional, it made everything in the textbook just fall into place.
Easy course, a lot of reading from textbook but it's very easy to understand and material is straight forward. Professor gives clear lecture, and there is more material in the textbook than in the lectures. If you have no problem with memorizing simple concepts and research examples you'll get an A for sure. Just a midterm and a final.
I majored in Psychology with the intent of learning more about things on the NeuroscienceBiology side of things, so as you can imagine, this material was difficult to find interest in for me. Luckily, Professor Baldwin showed me the relevance of social psychology in my everyday life and gave me appreciation for the subject. Easy midterm and final.
There is a lot of readings in this class but if you study well (especially the readings in the textbook) you can pass with a good grade. the tests are fair. The lectures are really interesting! The teacher is knowledgeable and knows how to keep your attention. But there is a lot of readings to do and most of the exam is on the readings!
Best professor I've had in three years. It helps that the material is super interesting. Easy multiple choice exams (in class midterm and a final) and he makes the lectures totally worth attending. Seriously, this was the only class I made an effort to attend in person. Take it!
Social psychology was a really great course. One of my favourites. Mark is actually hilarious, and really interested in the topic. Be prepared for the crazy readings, a lot of material to know for the exams. If you study for the exams though, you can do really well. I recommend it, and would take another course with Mark Baldwin
Great teacher, super funny and catches your attention. His classes are a lot of fun and his exams are fair. There is a lot of material to know but if you stay on top of your readings it isn't to bad. Would recommend it!!
Cannot stress this enough: he is such a great professor! His classes are thought-provoking, funny and very relevant. There was quite a bit to cover because he diverged from the textbook (and the final is cumulative) but he doesn't try to trick you and he explains even the commonsensical concepts elegantly. Take him if you can; love love him!
Like other raters wrote, he is amazing. His way of delivering the lectures cannot be beaten by others. Be careful; he doesn't teach all the test materials, and you have to study by yourself reading the textbook. But as long as you keep up with the classes and don't get behind in reading, you will do just fine.
Amazing teacher. He barely lectures about the theory of the textbook, mostly just adds on extra information about research and such, which keeps it interesting. Thoroughly reading the textbook and taking reading notes are what are mainly essential to passing this class. Lectures are also recorded.
he's honestly a great lecturer and the class is super manageable if you're interested. midterm was relatively easy and the final was super detailed.
He's really interesting and the textbook is very interesting (but also very needed to pass the class cause most of the exam questions are about the book). I would recommend to do the questions offer by the publisher online. He made the class great.
Balwin is the COOLEST GUY AROUND! I loved going to class, he tells tons of anecdotes and is such a relaxed lecturer. I also find him hilarious and absolutely adorable. The tests were super basic, just results from studiesdefinitions. The paper was marked a bit harder and the textbook is painful, but this class is still an easy A. LOVE U BALDWIN!
way too much reading and asks specific questions on research
You're expected to read the book and memorize a few studies, but the materials are so relatable and the prof has done such a great job explaining them that your efforts will not be painful. The course does put some emphasis on the cognitive approach, which may be challenging for some, but it prepares you well for higher level social psych courses.
He is good at lecturing, but asks for specific detail in the exam
His lectures are VERY interesting and fun. Although this class is 80 minutes long, it feels really short. He adds in his personal experiences to make the lecture materials more interesting and his stories are really funny. Whenever he thinks he didn't explain the materials well enough, he won't included them on the exams. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! 3
Amazing professor, very interesting lectures and very humorous
He's hilarious. Always in a good mood, and you can see that he cares about his students when he takes the time to answer questions. He makes it clear from the start that you need to plan your own readings so start reading as soon as you buy the textbook. His exams are easy if you study thoroughly. The material is super interesting too.
Very detailed exams
Amazing lectures, very entertaining Interesting course content (relationships, prejudice, social attribution, cool stuff) Only 2 multiple choice exams Worth taking this course for the great lectures
Professor Baldwin is an awesome professor! His lectures are super fun & interesting! The class requires a good amount of reading but it is pleasant since the material isn't too heavy. His exams are fair; if you listen to his lectures and do the readings you will likely do well! Highly Reccomended :)
Really great prof with a lot of energy and always making the class entertaining. What he covers in lectures and what the textbook covers are 2 different things so you have to go over lectures if you want to perform well on the exams. Textbook is long but the material isn't as hard. A lot of things to memorize though. Overall, great class!!!
The class is really not that hard, but the fact that we have to memorize a 500_pages textbook and that most of the questions on the midterm and Final are from it makes it harder. The class is interesing but it's a lot of memorization in my opinion.
AMAZING PROF! He teaches a really cool subject and his lectures flow really well (more like a story than a dry lecture, though he will throw tons of studies and terms at you during those 90 minutes). My best advice is to keep up with the reading and make flashcards as you go along because 8 chapters is too much to read the week before midterms.
Lectures were not useful, and not dense enough to justify going. So much to remember and read, that almost everything in lectures was covered in readings. Lecture slides are not that useful either. JOIN A READING GROUP, and study groups are good too. Older version of the textbook works just as well.
Professor Baldwin is an exceptional teacher! He knows how to give great and interesting lectures. He makes students read the whole textbook for Psych 215, but if you organize your time nicely, it shouldn't be a problem. He incorporates many anecdotes into his lectures, which makes them even better. Overall, a great professor and interesting course.
This was my favorite class at McGill. Baldwin is super dynamic and really makes students participate. His tests are difficult, but fair. Read the book, or you won't pass. Awesome teacher and class.
Lot of reading
Lot of reading, tests are hard
One of the best profs I've ever had at McGill! His lectures are very interesting and engaging. There is a textbook you have to read but it's well-written and interesting. He really wants you to understand the material esp the experiments. If you read the textbook, understand the experiments and pay attention to his lectures you should do fine.
Definitely one of the best profs I've had at McGill. Class is not hard, most of his questions are from the textbook so be sure to read the whole thing! His classes were interesting and I never missed one. Would definitely take again.
Good lectures - he is entertaining, BUT fails on being helpful. No clear reading assigned, so if you want to preread to prep for class - no love. Half of the time I had no idea where we were in the material. Also, why not post slides a head of class so we can take notes on the slides? Gave very generic advice for midterm prep by an ex-student.
DO THE READINGS. I didn't for the midterm and didn't do so well! The lectures super interesting though. This teacher is really funny and really knows his stuff. You really need to know your material for the tests though, and there is a lot to know, but study and you should be fine!
Psyc215 is a good psych course. You read the whole textbook, cover to cover. The studies and concepts are somewhat interesting. Baldwin is a pro at lecturing, he is entertaining and really cares for his students. Alright course, great professor.
DO THE READINGS. There's barely anything from his lecture slides on the exams, it's all studies and the textbook. Class average was very low for the midterm. Emailed both him and his TAs, none answered. Don't expect any help from them. They leave you to your own devises. No exam prep or help.
I LOVE THIS PROF. He is hilarious and I never get bored in his lectures. His class is mandatory for my program but I would 100% take his class for fun. The material is fascinating (albeit there is A LOT of it, given that he makes us learn lecture material as well as read the whole textbook). He's very fair and works hard to make the class fun.
great teacher. you got read the whole book though. But the book he selected is interesting, so it's kinda like reading stories. Very interesting topics covered in class. He is great at teaching. Best teacher I had in Mcgill.
Not a very accessible professor.
Like a lot of Psych 200 level courses, it is based on a lot of detailed elements from the textbook (mandatory to read all of it to pass), the class is enormous so it is hard to talk to the teacher but that is to be expected... Nice teacher, makes some jokes but overall structure of course is not that great it's quite confusing...
Lectures barely overlap with textbooks, so get ready to read: most of the stuff on his exams are from there. Hard exams. He is a good lecturer and quite funny, though his slides don't summarize his points well at all (lots of funny pics) so it's useful if you could attend class.
I love the way Baldwin always starts his class w a little anecdote from his life, his lectures are also always very interesting and applicable to life (altho slides only include bare min you need to know for exams). But, the material from the lectures and the textbook do not overlap. The exams are pretty detailed and include many experiments too.
seems like a really nice guy who loves what he teaches. The lectures are relatively interesting , but the exams for the class are ridiculous. With the curve, the average still falls around 68%, and he tests on specificities rather than actual concepts/definitions. very frustrating exams that seem to be designed to trick you
Amazin Prof. Lots of readings.
Baldwin's class was very entertaining. He gives good lectures. The textbook outlines interesting studies. Overall, it is a typical intro to psych course but with more material that is really relevant for everyday life. Enjoyable course on the overall. Took it my first semester as an elective and I don't regret it.
Yes he is entertaining, but is it worth it when you have to read and MEMORIZE an ENTIRE TEXTBOOK!!!!!!!! Trust me, you don't want to do that to yourself. The exam is when you realize that being entertained doesn't make a difference and you will hate him for not teaching you anything in class. Just take another course.
Agghhhhh he lectures for an hour and a half mostly about personal anecdotes with one or two facts not in the textbook. I have no idea what will be on the exam. We have a 1000 page textbook to read I assume most of the questions will be on that. Nice guy but the glass is very unstructured.
the best professor i ever had.
Boring lectures. Very descriptive, does not go into depth. Messy and unorganized. The tests are very dependent on the text book but little details and studies in his lectures are important too. He doesn't coordinate with the textbook. Basically the lecture and textbook are two separate things that come in the exams. You basically teach yourself.
Although Baldwin is very funny and nice, dont take his PSYC215 course unless you plan on learning and remembering something or for fun. You have to memorize an entire 1000-page textbook (his lectures are completely unrelated to it) along with some 300 studies. Midterm exams are not bad but final is pretty detail-oriented. Pro: class is recorded :)
I've never had to do so much reading, and you have to take thorough notes in class or you'll miss out on little details that he then works into his exams. Super tough, makes you learn the entire textbook, but overall really interesting. Makes lots of personal anecdotes, I think Baldwin is definitely kind of hit-or-miss.
His lectures are super interesting and entertaining (also, they're recorded). However, you do have to read the whole textbook and memorize a LOT of material. I found the class relevant to daily life, and he's engaging. Really important to actually read the textbook though and to memorize all of the studies! Not tough reading, just a lot of it.
The class is interesting, but his lectures are mostly irrelevant. You need to memorize the textbook for the exams, but he doesn't cover much of the textbook material in his lectures. You need to memorize a lot of studies. Overall, the class was fine.
Professor Baldwin is a nice and respectful professor but his lectures are somewhat all over the place. He talks about random things for about half the lecture, which will be on the exam. Go to the lectures because what he says in class will be tested. You must know and understand the ENTIRE textbook by heart!! Try to avoid this class if you could.
As a prof, he's super interesting and his lectures are fun. But, unfortunately, the way he decides to grade his students is terrible. We are expected to read the entire textbook, and literally memorize everything. Understanding is not enough. His lectures do not follow the textbook, but are on the exams. The mc are ambiguous.
Prof Baldwin is an amazing lecturer. However, his exams are mostly on the textbook so basically to pass the class you have to memorize the textbook.
Best prof I've had at McGill! Funny and inspiring, he really makes the material easy to understand. There is a lot of textbook reading and most of the material on exams is based on that, but it's really interesting and if you understand, the memorization is really not that hard. Really fair in grading and super approachable if you have questions.
Tough exams but its okay because the material is so interesting. He starts every class with a personal anecdote that then ties into the lecture for that day which is extremely helpful in filling the bridge between what we learn in our textbooks and how it applies to our everyday lives. Truly an inspirational professor and great speaker.
Even though his class is almost entirely based on you reading the whole textbook, I absolutely loved this teacher. However, a lot of material to read
Professor Baldwin's lectures are very interesting and you can tell he loves what he does. The only downside is that tests are very detail-oriented and almost entirely based on the textbook, which is 700 pages. He also does a lot of peer-grading assignments, which some students grade very harshly. Overall, interesting material and a nice prof.
Professor Baldwin was great! He's funny and made the material super interesting. I took him online and would watch his recorded lectures on 1.5-1.7x speed as at normal speed it was quite slow I found. Tests and assignments mostly based on textbook readings and although they are time consuming, the materials interesting. Pretty easy A.
The best prof! Super inspirational!
Prof Baldwin is very sweet, likeable, and clearly passionate about his lecture material. He is engaging and easy to listen to. He offers flexible grading and conference participation points. That being said, you have to pretty much learn a 600 page textbook by heart, as his exams mostly pertain to the readings and not the lectures.
Dr. Baldwin is such a good professor! He is passionate, funny, very knowledgeable and explains material super clearly and fluently. He is clearly gifted in teaching. His exams are mostly based on the textbook so it's essential to read it for this class. His lectures are fun and easy to understand. Overall, I would highly recommend this class!
His lectures were captivating, and it helped that they werent entirely based on the textbook, as it allowed him to explore more novel and interesting aspects of social psychology. However, this was a double edged sword as lectures were often unstructured and ambiguous about which chapter they were on. Still fairy easy exams. Would recommend.
This class was basically completely textbook based. IT IS A LOT OF CONTENT. I found that I didn't really learn much outside info from the lectures. I also watched all of the recordings on 2x speed because he talks so slow. He is a very nice man though and the textbook topics were interesting
I think most people don't find Mark interesting but I actually interested his narrative style of class and anecdotes. Tbh, the class material was MOSTLY dull, but some good parts. The class is 75% reading and 25% lectures, with a LOT of reading. The material was all very interesting however!! Also there's weekly conferences, easy grade if you talk
Professor Baldwin is great for PSYC 215-- he tells you to focus mainly on the textbook content, and you need to-- it's most of the exams. However, if you get that down, his lectures are interesting and focus on cool research, and the conferences help with preparing for tests.
His lectures were very interesting and engaging. You do have to do the textbook readings because they take up the majority of exams. However, I personally thought the textbook material was quite interesting so I didn't find it very burdensome reading so much.
This was my favorite class last semester. It's true that you essentially have to learn the 500 pages book by heart if you want to do well on the final, but the book is very clear and midterms were online and fairly easy. If you don't want to go to conferences you can write a brief paper instead. The prof was really nice and content very interesting
PSYC 215 was amazing. Dr. Baldwin's lectures are fun and easy to understand. There were online midterms and flexible grading, which was appreciated. Still, there is an entire textbook to self-study (plus the lectures), from which I took detailed notes, something that occupied countless hours, but studying it will definitely help get that A.
