Essay exams, not too hard. GREAT lecturer.
Very good lecturer. I am enjoyed him very much.
Great lecturer, easy essay topics, and nice person!
Great person, interesting lecturer, easy to talk too, easy essays, very helpful
Essay tests but nothing too hard
Great guy, interesting professor
nice man, very funny and smart, however test are hard, essays strict grading
Essay tests are mega tough if you don't have a perfect memory. Helpful.
his test are very hard you have to study alot.
Take good notes and it is an easy class. Great Lecturer
tough grader, but GREAT lecturer. it's worth it. i've learned tons just from listening to him.

keep up on your reading and you'll get a good grade! awesome guy and keeps you interested in boring ****
SO NICE!!! If you go to his office or write him emails a lot he'll help you out on the tests...go to all the extra creadit stuff, it helps your grade! Have to read a ton but willing to throw stuff out. He has two kids and is very understanding.
tests are rather hard but he tries to help. you can go to his office and ask for it. he gives brownie points if you visit his office often and ask questions during class. interesting lecture.
A great teacher. Makes everything fun and knows his stuff. Test are essay but not that hard after the first. Helps out in any way possible
If you don't like essay test, don't take this class. A lot of information, and a lot of reading.

he is an awsome teacher
Barringer is great!!! You do have essay tests but they aren't that bad..just be sure to go talk to him like a few weeks before the test and he'll help you decide what to study! I love his teaching and his class!
Helpful, dedicated, and personable. He has a very welcoming personality. If you put in the effort, he will surely do the same.
GREAT teacher. Very funny in class. Interesting lectures. Makes everything easy to understand. If you dont like essays and reading. He's not to take.
One of my fav classes, but he is a HARD grader. Essay exams have to be VERY detailed. He makes the lectures interesting, but it is a hard class.
very nice and will work with you on anything, but requires a lot of reading and papers due every week.
A lot of reading, and he is a hard greader. Exams are pretty extensive and are all essay. He is a good prof. and makes class fun, but don't expect an A.
fun teacher
He is a great teacher, but you have to read to do well. He really knows his stuff and will do anything to help.
His lectures are pretty interesting so the class is not boring. There is a lot of reading and you must be prepared for the test. He wants you to be specific and not go on tangents on the essays.
If you dont mind essay tests-this class was GREAT. by far my favorite class. He makes the lectures fun. As long as you read, and go ask for help, he will work with you.
Hes a cool guy and can keep the class interesting. The test can be hard if you do not study the material and read or at least skim the text, however hell help you if you visit him before hand
He was a very fair and interesting teacher. Taught me just as much about writing as he did history.
Super nice man. Go to his office and he will listen to you. Even will give you a different book to read if the other is too boring. Will talk to you about the possible essays and, though, yes he is a hard grader, an A in his class would not be difficul
This professor is by far one of my favorites at SFA. He is entertaining and animated and always makes you smile. Don't expect it to be a cake walk though. He takes his tests/reports seriously and expects you to do the same. Overall, though, he rocks!
CLASS IS A CHALLENGE, TEST ARE LONG ESSAY, AND HE IS A TOUGH GRADER. THAT BEING SAID I'D STILL TAKE HIM AGAIN. CLASS IS FUN AND INTERESTING, HIS LECTURES ARE GREAT. HE IS ALSO WILLING TO HELP. TAKE HIM BUT NOT IF YOUR LOOKING FOR SOMEONE EASY.
VERY HARD GRADER! More challenging than all my other profs. If you have questions or need help, TALK TO HIM. He will listen and give you all the help you need. LOTS of reading, but very interesting. PLUS, fun, interesting and hysterical in lecture.
His tests are essay, but he gives you the essays well in advance. He likes specifics in the essays. Fun and energetic teacher, I learned a lot.
By far one of the best teachers I have ever had. Fun in class and fair on exams but you have to read to get a good grade.
This guy is a doll! He is fair and helpful but makes you think. Don't expect him to be a cakewalk. He is, however, a true blessing to have teaching at SFA. If you are a history major/minor, take him for sure!
nice guy but hard class
Great professor!!!!! Class is intresting and he really makes you think about what he is talking about. Take LOTS of notes though and READ READ READ your book. Tests come straight from the online quizes or out of the book. Read and you will do fine.
He is a great professor that keeps his lectures clear. This class require lots of notes but he has a review section before every test that he answer any question about the test and review sheets. I made a B but I took notes and read alittle.
very nice guy funny in his lectures. You will learn something in his class if you listen. Helpful hint if you don't do good on his first test which are all essays go to him during his office hours and he will help you and always read.
awesome man...goes out of his way to help you however he can... a wonderful man to know
He is sooo nice and easy he will help you with whatever. He has essay finals all you have to do is answer the question. I love Dr. Barringer. If you take him you will pass.
Very interesting and knowedgable professor. Gives plenty of quizes which gives you lee-way for the final grade. Test are essay so take detailed notes.
Great teacher. This guy knows exactly what he is talking about. His lectures are fun and interesting, and he can always get a laugh out of you. The tests are all writing though, but if you learn the matierial instead of memorizing it, you'll be ok. Tests are much better than multiple choice.
This guy is easily the best teacher at SFA. He knows what he is talking about and he also knows how to make you remeber it. His tests are not easy but are better than multiple choice tests. everybody does bad on test 1 but you can still get an A.
i hate history so it was hard for me, but he mede it very clear and understandable. he is willing to help his students with anything and doesnt want anyone to fail who he can tell is trying their best.
TAKE BARRINGER...he's awesome. he is willing to help you out as long as you show that you are putting forth an effort. definitely would take him again. i don't even like history and i don't do well in it at all, but i made a B in his class. Whatever you do, read hells angels and perils...makes his test easier
Well I don't like history at all. The exams are ALL essay and it sucks!!!! He grades very hard. He is willing to help but good luck anyways.
Tests are all essay and he wants details, details, details. Unless you have a perfect memory, skip him.
Very good teacher. Imagine walking away from a course and knowing a lot more than you did when you first walked in. Now imagine walking away with a D in that same course. I learned a lot in his class and it was very interesting. My grade just didn't reflect that. All test are essay. What he goes over in class is hardley ever on the test!!
he uses your imagination. you write a lot..but well worth it. and, he puts it in words that we understand, and laughters common. take him..i wont guarantee an A, you def. work for your grade, but hes really fun and easy.
Dr. Barringer is the kind of professor that becomes a lifelong friend and resource if you let him. He has become a wonderful mentor and instructor to me and I couldn't have gotten through college with out him.
He's really awesome and actually cares about you.
Dr. Barringer is a great prof. He has an incredible sense of humor and makes almost anything interesting with his lecture style. Which is hard to do. He helped me through several rough spots in other classes as well. Bottom line: he Rocks!

Good guy, fun lectures. But you will read a lot, and you will write a lot. So if you're not fluent in both of those skills, I wouldn't recommend his classes. The exams are a bit off from the notes and book. I think he's good for history majors, not so good for non-history majors.
He made the class so much fun. He really gets you involved and tries to help you so much as possible. His tests are difficult but if you study you shoulod do just fine.
I do not like history....especially Texas history, until I took Dr. Barringer's class online. Im surprised that I have learned as much as I have. He is very motivated to help all of his students. I would recommend taking him, especially for his online courses.
Only take if you enjoy taking essay only test. Otherwise, find another teacher.
Good prof, very hard though, tkae if you have a good work habit,
Loved Him! Hes no cake walk, and he does require you to work but you will never get bored, and he is really passionate about what he does! If you work hard it will be worth it!
I graduated from SFA over 3 years ago but this professor still has a profound presence in my life. Not only did I learn history, I learned a lot about life in general. He is one of those teachers that you never forget and always want to thank. If you have the chance, do yourself a favor and take a class with Dr. Barringer. It's worth it!
Tough but fair, demanding but accommodating. Expect to work a lot, but it's worth what you'll learn from this guy.
lots of fun
Very tough professor but he knows what he is talking about. If you dont like doing essays on tests do not take him! And always attend SI!!
You must read your textbook and attend SI if you expect to do well in this course. Make sure you participate, because he's very friendly if he gets the opportunity to interact with you. If you ask for it, he is always willing to help you.If he sees you trying, he may have mercy on you on quizzes. The class challenging but he makes it interesting.
Pretty tough grader, and his test are unbelievably hard. Try to avoid this teacher at all costs! But he is a very nice and fun guy!
Great professor!
He is an amazing professor. He really makes history interesting. You can tell he really cares about what he is teaching and his students. He was a very tough grader and I have never had to work harder for a B, but you learn so much! If you ask for help, he is more than willing to help! He is really funny too. Tests are pretty hard.
I took Dr. Barringer for SFA 101 honors section. If you have a chance to take any course with him I would highly recommend taking it, or at least seek him out and meet him, he is "one of those people you should know." Having someone who truly cares about my success and future will benefit me through college and beyond. Great professor!
This was the worst class ive ever taken. me and all my friends in this class struggled greatly, after going to all SI's and barely making a 50 on the first test. I dropped. I had never spent so much time preparing for a test. People I know who are still in there wish they had dropped it because there are not a lot of tests. do not take.
This class was extremely hard for me. First, the instructor was AMAZING. He was caring, informative, and entertaining. He even attended SI and held review sessions before test. That said, I failed the class. I made a 50 on the first test, a 70 on the second test, and failed the final. Tests are ALL essay.
Great class! Highly recommend! Great story teller, interesting & not terribly impossible to do well in if you work hard- not an "easy A." Worth the effort.
I took this class online and havent even finished it yet but feel the need to complain. He has been so slow on grading that I have no idea what I'm making in this class and it ends next week. "Dont start your second essay until I give feedback on the first" and I STILL HAVE NO FEEDBACK AND AM STARTING MY THIRD ESSAY. No grading rubric either (-:
He might be a great professor in class but online he is horrible. I have already submitted two essays and still have not gotten feedback on the first or even the grade. The online test are super specific on the questions and the information given to answer them in the textbooks or readings are super vague.
Took for a graduate level class a year ago. He never graded anything until 2 months after the semester was over, so no one had any idea where they stood. He monitors this "Rate my Prof" website, and gets ratings removed if they are negative. Mine was removed the night it was posted last year. He blames students for his unprofessional behavior.
Professor Barringer was great at the beginning, but after two weeks he stopped all communication with us. I sent multiple e-mails asking about my grade, what I need to improve on with my papers and discussions and I never heard a word. Class is over in less than a week and out of eight grades I only know 1 of them. I do not recommend Barringer
Professor Barringer, after two weeks into the summer, cut all contact with the students. One week before the class ended, only 1 grade was posted. He then promised to grade the papers a few days early with feedback so we could have a chance to redo some papers to meet his standards. However, he never got us the feedback in time.
I took this class (United States History II) during COVID and we zoomed twice a week. I really loved professor Barringer. He is really nice and funny, one of my favorite professors! this class wasn't too bad, there was weekly writing assignments and then the "test" was a project on wakelet. I would for sure take him again!! 10/10
Take Dr. Barringer's class you will not regret. He doesn't have any test but he does have writing assignments but as long as you pay attention you should succeed in this class no problem. He is such a funny guy I have never had a class where he didn't make me laugh. Loved his class with a passion.
Yeah, absolutely not. It is past midterms and right before thanksgiving and we have only received two graded items with minimal feedback. Also, if you do not consistently check D2L you will never know when assignments are posted.
I took barringer this semester and though his lectures are really boring his class is easy to pass since he DOSENT HAVE MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS and our only grades are weekly projects that you can do in less than an hour. As long as you communicate with him hes really nice and you will pass. My only complaint is dont expect your grades back fast
Barringer is great in class and gives amazing and interesting lectures, however when it comes to grades, he is impossible. His projects are extremely hard with no clear rules or guidelines. He never posts grades. Ever. No multiple choice tests, every grade is project and essay based. You will not know if you passed until he posts the final grades
To say the least, he is okay. I would not recommend him if you prefer multiple choice tests over actual lengthy writing assignments. He does not post grades so you may not know what you have until mid terms / finals. As long as you do what youre supposed to do you will pass. If you do not do the work or make an effort you will not pass.
This man is an amazing lecturer, he's funny and really engaging. Hes a super tough grader, but ensures that you pass (even if you gotta scrape by). Every exam is written, no multiple choice so studying is necessary. He will work with you outside of class, encourages you to do so. Wants the best for you, just the grading is so so harsh.
I knew I wasn't going to get a good grade on the essay he had us write in one class period… but then he said a 60-70 was a good score and high for this. This essay/writing is a majority of the overall grade, not open note, less than 50 minutes if you want to write the identification terms too.
He is super chill, funny, and nice. He makes history fun. If you don't come to class, that's fine, but you may miss quizzes or some important information. You are supposed to read a chapter a week as homework, which is super light-reading. He does almost a quiz a week on Friday.
I love this guy. His class is very difficult, but the professor himself is amazing. The class is difficult because it is all essay written for the tests and the quizzes are over the chapters he wants you to read. He cares about his students a lot. As long as you go to the SI, you should be okay.
One of the most funniest and engaging professors I have taken, but because of this he is SUPER HARD. He expects you to know everything and anything just as the same passion as he gaves it history. He is very sweet and really cares for each one of his students, takes a max of an hour or even less to get back to you on an email. Very sweet but HARD.
Very attentive to students, makes lectures and information very easy to absorb and connect (in my opinion). It is a very textbook-heavy course, but you'll pay $0 for the textbook. Absolutely would take a class from him again, but if you're not great with locking in on the textbook out of class, I wouldn't recommend.
