He is a good teacher. I have never really been good at Math and I am getting a B. He is really concerned about students understanding what is going on. He is big on group work in class. He does have an attendance policy that sucks, especially when your class is at 8am.

I absolutely loved this class. Dr. Barsamian makes calc really easy. The only thing that sucks is his effin' attendance policy that I absolutely cannot stand. My class was at 8.00am, and you can only miss 4 classes without getting points taken away. His grading policy is incredibly easy. I think an 82% is a B+. Needless to say, if you choose not to come to class occasionally, you're not going to effin' fail. Finally, Mark Barsamian is as cool as the integral of e^x. Holla!
The WORST Teacher I Have Ever Had In My LIFE!!!
Barsamian is a little confusing when you first start the class, but as the quater goes on you begin to understand what he wants. His tests are passable, but his attentdance policy can really hurt you if you don't go to class much. He grades homework on right and wrong, but it is actaully very helpful for the tests.
he is a good teacher, just hard attendance policy. Cant miss class at all, I had an 8am. Cool guy not business ordained or business-minded but knows math.
He is always willing to help and he is very friendly with the class. He takes attendence, but if any of you haven't it out by now, the key to doing well in math is never missing classes! His tests are hard, but he curves. All in all, I did learn a lot from him.
If you have the opportunity, definitely take this class with Dr. Barsamian. He's much better than most math professors I've had (he speaks English). His grading policy is ridiculously merciful. The only thing that sucks about him is his attendance policy (he doesn't always take it though!)
I had him for the first part of my calculus requirement. The class is not easy and there is so much work involved (you either have an exam or homework each Friday) but he is a very good teacher who will take the time to work with you. He is the best math teacher I have had at OU.
This guy was just extremely boring. He went through material extremely fast(which wasn't totally his fault), and it became hard to retain alot of what he talked about. Outside of class he was a cool guy, but during he was just so dull and boring.
I thought i was being taught my a mentally hadicapped person, quite possibly the worst teacher to date. He wipes the chalkboard off with his goofy lopsided head
To begin his grading scale is great.... But his class is not that hard but he doesnt explain the material very well. He literally does the maximum of four examples per class time and takes forever to explain the method. His exams usually consists of five question with multiple parts to each.. I wasnt to fond of his exams.. BUT YOU'LL BE THE JUDGE
MATH 263B: He is a great prof. Explains everything you need to know; no need to remember anything from previous class. Only assigns a select number of homework problems from the suggested problems list.
He is horrible. His homework takes FOREVER to do, and his math tests are difficult. I have seriously spent anywhere from 5-7 hours on his homeworks on a thursday night. He crams whole chapters into the last 5 minutes of class, the day before the test. dont take his class!!
Really nice and smart guy- just not so good at teaching what he knows to others. He makes things much clearer if you work with him one on one. Also, his grading scale is BEYOND generous- I ended up with a 63% which is still a C
He seemed like a nice guy, but just wasn't an effective teacher. I attended class regularly and even went to a study group weekly. He wasn't clear about the information and was very poor about grading and returning homework and tests timely. I will definately avoid him in the future.
this guy is a nerd..he writes notes about his lack of coffee and just is really weird but knows how to teach calc
He is the worst professor i've had at OU. He doesn't make any sense and than expects you to understand the homework that takes hours to due and is only worth 10 points. He also yelled at our class for yawning too much. What does he expect in his class?
I would definitely reccomend Mark if you like robots. A lot. If you're not so much a fan of the robot, maybe stay away.
I think this teacher is really easy. His exam questions come directly from the problems on the homework or that we do in class.
I hate math-especially when I had it at 8 o'clock in the morning and had to walk from west green to morton hall every morning winter quarter. That being said, Mark is an excellent professor. Calculus is hard, and it's not gonna be fun, so take it with a professor who can explain it. Go to class every day or you won't be happy with your grade
Mark was into MAJOR details, which makes the material much more understandable. I think that he is an excellent and patient prof. Overall good experience. Exam questions come mainly from your assigned/suggested homework problems. If you need calculus and feel a little "rusty", Mark's class is great. Plus, he speaks English clearly.
With his grading scale, it is almost impossible to get below a C. I ended up with a 66%... which is a C+! Take this prof if you just need to get a C or better for your major.
Mark was not a good teacher. This class was suppose to be an intro to calc but he expects you to already know a lot of things. I would not recommend taking this class.
Is a good teacher but is tough. Very detail oriented, wants you to show every step. Class moves at a pretty fast pace, so its hard to catch up if you get behind, but if you go talk to him he is helpful.
Before Marks class i had a really tough time with math. He did a great job of making it tolerable. He is the best math teacher i have had. He explains things really well and is willing to help
He is a great teacher. He does an excellent job teaching the difficult material. If you study, you will get an A. Plus his tests are fair and he gives you enough time, unlike the Chemistry department!
Dr. Barsamian was a good professor. I'd have to say that he made the class rather easy. His exams are fair and short. His homework is easy and he wrights his own matlabs which are also easy. He is overall a very good professor if you have to take calc. I got an A in the class.
Dr. Barsamian was my second teacher for this course, and he made the information far more clear than my last professor. His tests are fair, and he tells you what material will be presented on them ahead of time. He is very good at explaining and makes the difficult material easier to understand.
He expects you to know everything and be just as fast as him in knowing it. He also doesnt allow calculators on the test when other professors do.
His tests were unfinishable in the time alloted...they were unfair..when asking for help he will tell you to just drop...does not want you to use office hours...works extremely quick...does not allow calculators in the class..he has an easy grade scale but teaches it as if it were a 400 level course.he is very rude to his students and wants failure
Doesnt know what math is.
Can't agree any less with the reviews below me, found him to be extremely helpful at all times, with all questions, i had plenty of time to finish tests, and homeworks were any easy way to get points. As long as you're not pathtic at math, you shouldn't have a problem with him at all. People just complain too much when things aren't handed to them
He's terrible. Doesn't help you and honestly seem s like he doesn't care. I went to all of the classes and did all of the homework and still almost failed along with 45% of my class. He speeds through notes and I actually witnessed him mock a student in class for asking him to slow down. Find someone else- PLEASE!!
PLEASE READ!!! He is a horrible professor. Just an awful teacher. The sad thing is that he is a nice guy. I had his class with 200 other people. Tests are really hard and you aren't allowed to use a calculator in his class. TAKE IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE IF YOU CAN!!!
Terrible professor! He slams you with homework and the examples in the book don't even relate to the questions on the homeworks. When you go to his office hours for extra help, he'll give you a problem to do and then he turns around and plays on the computer or talks on the phone. He's a nice guy but does not seem to care about his students at all!
Ok he is hard BUT hes really nice and the homework is do-able if you're willing to put some effort into it. I wouldnt just take the class for the hell of it but if you're a math major of some sort and you have made it this far you will survive.
He is tough but there is a big curve (85% is an A-). There are only about 7 homework assignments but they will take hours (at least 4) so dont put it off. Hes a bit scatter brained but very nice.
Mark is an excellent instructor. He's approachable and allows you every opportunity to succeed. The topics are tough but he is great at what he does. He is also entertaining (don't hold back your laughter).
if you pay attention to all lectures and look over example problems in book you will receive a good grade
He is a great teacher. Sometimes I feel he takes to many steps to do a problem. Answers all questions clearly
its a hard class over all. NO homeworks, just quizzes and tests. Need to go to class and study alot to get a good great. Great Curve on grade though. Best 163a teacher out there.
I love the way he teaches. He writes everything out step by step, great for taking good notes. Homework is not manditory but you should really do it to help your self out. The only downside is all of your grade is tests and quizes (which happen everyother day).
this man was easily the worst teacher i have ever had. i do not recommend him to anyone who actually likes math. it will ruin it. if you don't like math it will make it worse. but if you like being confused for no reason, or test questions that you were never taught, then i would recommend getting him as a teacher
UGHH today i accidentally skipped the last page on an exam over material i CLEARLY had an excellent hold on (on the 3 pgs i saw, i only missed 1.5 points out of 160). he wouldn't let me redo the pg i skipped at all. now i have to drop the class cuz i can't get an A. SO FRUSTRATING. other than this, he's awesome. nice, clear, easy tests, good curve
Great Professor, must attend class to do well though.
Professor Barsamian is a very precise instructor who makes extremely explanatory, step by step instruction in notes. You really need to go to class to understand the material he discussed and the extra problems that he uses for examples. The good thing is that for each exam you are always aware of the topics on the exam.
Just study and you'll do fine.
a great teacher who is willing to help you especially if you visit him during office hours.
Love this guy!!!!! Awesome professor. Love this class. He does a great job. Best. Math. Prof. Ever.
First of all, I am horrible at math so I was terrified of this class. Especially since I hear most math teachers at OU are horrible. I also saw some bad reviews on Barsamian. I have to say, he is probably the best math teacher here. He does lots of examples of every type of problem you'd see on homework or tests and is very helpful. He's awesome
I've always loved math but dreaded calculus. I was referred to this teacher by a friend and he was excellent. He gave out study guides that had EXACTLY what he wanted on his tests. He put the notes online and was very helpful. Only catch is that you can't miss more than 6 classes, otherwise its an automatic fail. But great prof, definitely take em.
I've never been more confused in math in my life. He makes you memorize every step in your head and you're not allowed to use a calculator. Needless to say, the test material doesn't always require calculations you need a calculator for, because his tests make you memorize his way of doing math. so if you've known shortcuts to math, forget them!
He makes you do everything his way and you can't use short cuts because you have to show all the steps on tests and quizes but he does a lot of examples in class and if you do the problems in the book you should do well on the tests and quizes. if you miss class you'll get lost thought.
Not a good teacher. Explains concepts quickly and is not approachable for questions. Tests and quizzes don't follow homework problems or suggested review. Notes are posted online, I suggest paying attention in class and looking at the notes online later because he moves quickly.
Awesome Prof, Hard class expect to learn but well worth it and everything on quizzes and exams straight from the text he makes. Also cheap text, only $30.
If you enjoy going to class and never know what is going on take his course. He spends whole class periods going over 2-3 examples and then realizes he did them wrong and hes supposed to be a Calc teacher!? Teaches math "his" way which is long and confusing. He also isn't approachable for help and tells you SI is completely pointless to attend.
Not a bad teacher but kind of an annoying guy. Quizzes once a week but 2 lowest grades get dropped. Also drops your lowest exam grade. Everything is from the book. The curve is ridiculous and really helps make it easier to pass the course. He really cares about the topic and is helpful if you come to class.
Don't listen to any other reviews but this one. This guy loves math and will help you if you attend his class. I HATE math but because of him I actually took time to care and learn about it. He makes everything so easy and the notes are online if you miss class.
As an introductory Linear Algebra class, this course is probably going to be the first time some people are exposed to the more abstract parts of mathematics. Mr. Barsamian's lectures can get confusing, but he is extremely helpful if you simply ask questions. Pay attention in class and read the textbook. Put some effort into your education.
Very good teacher. Actually one of the best math teachers ive ever had. Ive never understood math this good ever before BUT he is very picky. No such thing as "he understands the concept so he will at least get half credit" if you get the notation wrong you will get 0 credit. Although it is his job to do that. It would be nice to get partial.
I really liked mr barsamian, attendance isn't mandatory but if you do attend it helps a bunch!! If you just study his notes online and review the examples you will be able to do well on the quizzes and tests. There is no homework. Also, he explains the material to you so you really understand it!
Mark clearly knows his stuff but rarely stops to see if anyone has questions or to clarify what he's talking about; So if you're lost, you're on your own, which happens a lot because he teaches like a textbook - complex and wordy. I can already tell most of the learning is going to be done outside the classroom.
Very clear. Its easy to pass the class as long as you put forth effort
Professor Barsamian is a good guy and really seems to be interested in Calculus However, he grades really hard and unless you are able to do the math the way he wants to see it, it is hard to receive a good grade. Tests are over half of the overall grade. Attendance is mandatory but he does put his lecture notes online.
Good class.
Bad Class.
calc is already confusing and he tries to teach it the best way he can by breaking everything down. although he tries, it doesn't work a lot. studying independently will help a lot, go to SI and the AAC for help too. he lowered his grading scale just because of how hard the class is. he tells dad jokes, though. lightens stressful moods.
Pretty good teacher. Class is easy if you do the practice problems. Definitely do 30 min tutoring sessions ad the AAC FREQUENTLY!! You will get an A on everything if you do that. There were weekly quizzes so you had many chances to get your grade up.
It's definitely necessary to go to class because if you don't, you'll be lost. It's also necessary to do the practice problems he gives you to follow along. He's also always willing to help if you need it. He has a curved grading scale and also gives a potential 80 extra credit points at the end of the semester.
Would not have passed if I had a different professor. Extremely helpful and frequent quizzes helps a lot for the exams. If you're going to take this class take it with Mark!
Mark is a nice guy, but this class is the hardest class i have ever taken. Must learn it his way or its wrong. Dad humor for sure, check out his videos on youtube.... got some music talent lol
Had this teacher this semester and honestly may be the worst math teacher I have ever had. I taught myself calc through the whole textbook. gives quizzes befor class about what he is teaching during class. Extremely hard grader. honestly, this would be the last math professor in all of Ohio university i would recommend. DO NOT take his class.
extremely specific grader, everything in the class is take for accuracy so be ready for that it's not fun
Probably my favorite professor I've had at this school. Very personal and literally knows exactly what he's talking about and explains things crystal clear
Math is intimidating for me and I really respected Mark for taking a personal interest in how I did while I was able to survive his class. Lots of group work, quizzes/exams every Friday. Wish he spent more time explaining text examples though and the group work was more participation that harsh grading for points. He's funny and nice but hard.
Tests are hard because he grades them so harshly and they are worth a lot. Quizzes and group work help A LOT. He also gave some extra credit but did not curve. I liked him and definitely learned. Best thing, when I asked him to raise my grade at the end of the semester he did!
If you haven't taken precalculus or some advanced math class, I do not suggested you take this class with him. Otherwise you should be fine. He is super helpful, but you should go to the lectures and do all the suggested exercises because the quizzes and exams are based on them.
A good professor to take calculus with. He does a great job of giving detailed notes by writing everything out for students and then posting them on the course page for future reference. Make sure to do the suggested exercises and be VERY descriptive in your work - he's picky on that. He knew how to teach calc, and was pretty funny and engaging too
Hardest professor ever. Significantly harder than all of the rest of the MATH 1350 professors, obviously because he's the head of the math department. Quizzes are hard, exams are hard, and its hard to figure out whats on exams. If you need MATH 1350 for credit, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!
I've never had trouble learning math and I had to drop his class. He gives a quiz every Friday. Takes attendance, but it's technically not mandatory. Went to him for help outside of class multiple times but none of it helped. If you want a huge headache, then take this class with him. Strongly recommend you get anyone else if you can.
He is a tough grader but if you go to class, you'll know what to do on exams.
So, Mark, he was terrible. He did not show up to his own office hours on time when I would go in. And when he was there he would take 10 minutes and then kick you out because he had other classes quizzes to grade. He would also make up his own theroms called Marks Theroms. He made the class harder than it ever had to be. Never again, ever.
I've taken Calculus three times. Mark is the most straightforward professor I've had. If you go to class and try, you'll make it. He'll tell you whats going to be on exams and most quizzes.
He's not qualified to teach this course. There needs to be someone from the education department teaching this course. It is designed for middle school teachers, yet I have seen no application to teaching. It is a traditional math class where the professor is at the board. Presentations -we write, he talks. Quizzes do not test learned knowledge.
Mark does not know how to teach this class at ALL. He teaches the class like we are learning college geometry instead of teaching us how to teach geometry to middle schoolers. If you go to his office hours, he will talk to you for 5 minutes and then kick you out saying he is busy. He is very inconsistent on his grading for exams. He has his own way
He is a GREAT person overall, BUT! He knows much higher levels of calculus that it is difficult to just get the basic concepts of what we needed to learn. His teaching style is lecturing at the chalkboard or projector for the totality of class. I would recommend taking this class with a grad student, unless you need to take higher levels of calc.
I am not sure why he gets a bad rep. He is probably the most caring professors I have ever had. He knew everyone in the classes name, and always wrote me encouraging notes on exams and quizzes. His classes are horribly boring but he is very straight forward about what to know for quizzes/exams. He also gives the homework as extra credit.
If you go to office hours he will help you out. Get to know him he will work with you and help you no matter your situation. He also throws in some good Dad jokes.
Way too fast
This class is pretty hard but i highly recommend 1350 with mark. He is super funny and really cares about students grades if you reach out and ask for help. A lot of the math department at OU have very thick accents and can be hard to understand, so if you dont want to deal with that, take 1350 with mark
Teaches from pre packaged material that the math department bought, there is no actual teaching done by the prof he just assigns youtube videos for you to teach yourself.
Mark is a solid professor, he grades hard but often gave extra credit as cushion for your grade. The class is very proof heavy but if you figure out how to write a proof then his class shouldn't be a problem. Gives great feedback that is detailed on what you did wrong or right. I suggest Mark for this course!
I want you picture Severus Snape but replace Alan Rickman's performance and cast someone who's voice is as bland as toast in the role. Have him make a bunch of videos talking about math but instead him giving lectures, some grad student who has no business teaching is doing it for him. That is Mark Barsamian in a nutshell.
You will have a TA who does not speak English well. You will spend hours learning online every week. Lots of hw and quizzes. Attendance for a grade. You will have to present 4 times in this class. Mark does not update the schedule like he says he will. He says he'll post the presentation a week before, but only gives you 2 days. Good Luck.
I took number theory with him and I wouldn't recommend him. Class attendance is basically pointless because he wants you to teach yourself with his videos. He also has his students teach for him through presentations.
he sucks. By far the worst teacher or professor I ever had.Does a terrible job keeping track of time, is always late or runs class over. likes to make up his own definitions instead of using the online text book made in the 90s attached in HIS OWN WEBSITE that he made that is incredibly confusing and the most basic coding from the age before christ
Completely self-taught through the long videos he posted online. With up to 3 hw assignments to complete a night and not even being for credit. This is meant to be the easiest calc class offered here, and I couldn't understand most of it. I even signed up for tutoring because the SI sessions didn't help. Those taught me more than Mark ever did.
I never met mark in person the ta taught the whole class, I only saw him when I watched homework videos every night because I had to teach myself everything because our TA was so bad. We had 3 homework assignments a night and aquiz every week. I had to miss a quiz once to make an emergency home because my grandma died my ta gave me a 0 on the quiz.
warning: jumpscare
For a math professor, he definitely lectures a lot. But if you listen to them you'll know exactly how to do everything.
I never met Mark in person, I only saw him in videos posted on the website that seemed to have been recorded years ago. The homework is not graded and so the class is only graded based on exams, quizzes (every Friday), and presentations. I got lucky with my TA, he had an accent on the heavier side but overall is a great teacher and a hilarious guy!
Calculus is a difficult course, but Mark's notetaking teaching style makes it as easy to understand as possible. The class is graded just from recitation, quiz, and exam points, so you must stay motivated to do the ungraded homework assignments to do well on the bigger assignments. He gives great feedback on quizzes. Go to class and take notes!
If you see you have Mark Barsamian as your professor drop the class and get a different professor. It will save many tears, hours of teaching yourself, and your GPA. Good luck to those who stay in his class.
Barsamian is an amazing professor. His lectures are well put together, and quit engaging. He gives lots of homework, but the homework was well thought through, and gave you meaningful examples that you really learn from. I will note though, that students looking to take college geometry should take his number theory course before hand if possible
Very unclear grading criteria. Harsh grader. Practice problems do NOT prepare you for exam - do recitation problems. No homework, but there's weekly quizzes. If you want to do well, you have to study at least 5 hours a week (and even then, good luck). TA office hours are your best bet. He doesn't explain very well and often ignores questions.
Mark is NOT a good person. Wouldn't take a course with him, he doesn't teach (the TA does, not very well) and he's extremely rude. I had two deaths in my family in the same week and he basically said if I didn't come to the quiz that I would automatically get a zero, even though I thoroughly explained the entire situation. Cares more about quizzes.
Does not teach his students, and holds classes with instructors who barely speak English. You never know what topic you are on because tutors, si sessions, instructors, and online instruction never match with each other. The first moment you feel "lost" or "behind".......start praying. I was thrown into this class with no pre-calc or anything. DONT
This class is awful and ruined my semester. I did hours of homework everynight and the learning is pretty much all through videos. And to top it off I was given an exam on the monday before Thanksgiving break when all my other classes were canceled so I had to stay on campus all weekend just for this class. Take this over the summer.
Math 1350 with Mark Barsamian is by far the hardest course in the COB. The instructors have no idea what they are doing, you can't understand them at times. The material learned in class does not match with what will be on the weekly quizzes. No sympathy for his students and doesn't even teach the class himself. Good luck trying to pass this class.
Horrible. I don't even know how to put into words how terrible this class is. He doesn't teach, can't understand the TAs, and material doesn't match with what will be on the quizzes. This class is designed to work against students. On quiz days be prepared to learn about material not related to the quiz/exam to confuse you before taking the test.
I am a senior with a secured job for after college and I am worried about graduating at this point because I have to take a class that will NEVER be translated to the real world. This professor does not teach at all and just fuels his own ego by making you watch 90 1-hour videos of stuff that he made up outside of the actual book that is given.
This class isn't necessarily hard it's just poorly taught. Personally, my TA wasn't the most understanding guy. I barely showed up to class this semester & got by fine with an A by just doing homework & studying enough. They're also not flexible with makeups. I have to stay until Monday before Thanksgiving because of an Exam instead of going home.
Mark was not very respectful of his students time he would often show up late and then go over time. Graded really hard and made us write in words every step like it was an English class and would take points off for wording. He also didn't use technology and would write everything out on loose sheets of paper but never have it under the projector.
If you see you have Mark Barsamian as your professor, drop the class and get a different professor. It will save many hours of teaching yourself, and your GPA. Good luck to those who stay in his class.
Honestly an easy class for a guy like me. Pal if you come back here to rate this guy a 1 take a long hard look in the mirror and ask yourself if you really put some effort into this class. I get we are not all mathematically gifted but could you honestly say you went to class and paid attention and ask questions if you were confused. teacher helps.
Just to be clear you never meet this guy once. His instructors fail to grade the correct way leading students in one class to get 50s and 60s and another class will get all 100s. I talked to him 1 on 1 about this issue and he couldn't give me a definite answer why. Absolutely ashamed! I got a B in so Im not just a bad student complaining.
I had a Godfrey as my TA he was very nice and wanted his students to do well. I never met mark just received his emails, and saw him for the final. It all depends on what TA you get really some grade hard some don't. I took pre survey to calc it wasn't hard just take notes during class.
i would rather suck a denim jacket through a straw than ever go into this class ever again
worst professor at ohio university, take literally anyone else if you can
Save your time, tears, and will to live by taking this during the summer with a community college, etc.The 350 word limit on this post doesn't justify how bad his course and teaching strategy is.
Youre not taught through mark you are taught through ta's who don't speak English and grade/teach differently than every other class. Tutors cannot help due to them not knowing what it is and have to watch maybe 1-2 hours worth of lectures a night along with 2-3 homework assignments........you are teaching yourself he does not teach you.
This class is a mixed bag - the material can be tough, but unstuck AI and a little extra effort can go a long way. Definitely attend lectures, even if the teaching style isn't perfect. With the right mindset, you can succeed in this class.
If Mark Barsamian is TEACHING your MATH 1350 class, you are in luck. He is a very nice guy with a sense of humor and is very clear when going over material in class. Participation and note-taking are essential to getting a good grade since exams are highly weighted. Attend PAL sessions as well if you want to do well in this course.
I had so much hope combining into this class, as soon as I entered the doorway all was lost. This professor is nice however he makes up fake definitions for stuff and doesn't teach that good in my opinion. I literally had to study 10 hours for this class per day and I never got a good grade. Prepare to teach yourself everything.
Literally get ANYONE else you can. Doesn't explain what you got wrong on quizzes/exams. Doesn't go over material well in class so you have to teach yourself. Only pluses of this class were the TA was really helpful, and going home was the highlight of my day.
If you get the right answer, but don't do it the way Marky-moo likes, he'll give you a big fat 0. He doesn't curve either. He also doesn't put your quiz and exam grades into Canvas. Be prepared for him to spend a whole lecture on one problem. Weekly quizzes, almost daily homework. Honestly have learned more from the PAL sessions.
Avoid this professor if possible. He skips teaching anything covered in the textbook (which lacks clear explanations), tests on material never discussed in class, and wastes lecture time with bullshit definitions and examples he never finishes. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSORS CLASS, if possible.
If you don't put in the effort, you are going to have a bad semester. He gives so many problems to practice and master skills. Just study, this isn't high school anymore. Mark himself is actually a chill guy. As long as he can tell you put in effort, you will be fine. Quizzes aren't terrible but you do need to study a lot for the exams.
Overall, the class itself had 3 exams worth 220 points and one final, one exam drops. I believe 9 quizzes and 1 drops. There is homework but it is only bonus up to 31 points. You are graded out of 1000 points. Mark Barsamian was a very solid professor. He grades pretty harsh but as long as you follow his steps you'll be good. Goes over the 55 mins.
I had to go to the OU's equity council because he wasn't allowing me to make up an exam because I was going to be the maid of honor at my sisters wedding in Kentucky. I told him two months ahead of time (the first day of class) and he still said no. Actually, he told his TA to tell me no, couldn't bothering telling me himself. I got to take it.
Mr. Barsamian is a caring prof who wants you to succeed and seems like a nice guy. The lectures don't really cover all of the information so be ready to set some time aside to read the textbook. He grades harsh but fair and he gives extra credit on every quiz and exam so that makes it easier.
Honestly Mark is a really great guy. He's funny, and encourages participation in class. Don't get me wrong though, it is very hard. It is Calculus, and the way he teaches it makes sure you do a lot of studying outside of class. He is a moderately hard grader, but he gives partial credit. There is also extra credit. If you try, you can do well.
The teaching style is quite slow; be ready to be attentive because every word said will be written on the board. While attendance is mandatory, sometimes videos are provided on the subject matter. The class is quiz and exam heavy, and requires you to study every single week to maintain a good grade, aswell as the final being a lot less fair.
