He is horrible! you will not want to take him. Please avoid him. He gives a lot of work and favorite a certain group of students over some others. HE MAKES ME SICK...........

Dr. Berenson breathes Statistics, and teaches out of the book that he authored, which happens to be a good book and is a plus because if you miss class, the stuff in the book is taught the same way as the class. Open book tests, but you need to study.
Mark is a good guy. His credentials are way too good for a dump like MSU. Take him, but be prepared to work. Luckily, unlike most losers that teach at MSU, you will actually learn something.
Mark is a great guy. When I was in his class (1 year ago), he was the hardest prof I came across. He could teach at any Ivy League university and you should be lucky you have a chance to be in his class.
the first two comments look like he wrote them himself. LOL
He is very hard. Even when exams was open book it was still very hard. The projects were horrible, to long and to much work. Have to get outside help just to pass class.
He needs to realize that he is a Statistics teacher and not an English professor. He grades you on what you say and not what you do. I do not recommend him.
Although I didn't have the hottest grades in the class, Berenson is a great guy. The tests may be hard but I still had learned a lot from him. I just wish I could turn back time and retake him because I don't trust others to teach that class.
He was a pretty hard teacher and I found to be pretty boring, although he is a nice guy.The tests were open book but were almost impossible to finish or do really well on.He did have reviews but the were on saturday mornings, and if u had work, oh well.
He is a real nice guy. he is funny, but he wrote the book. So he is very hard. Gives three long long long test. You'll be happy to leave with a C. if you could avoid him. be prepare to study
He's hard, but he's good. Show up, do the work and you'll actually learn something.
Great teacher, know his stuff, he wrote the book. Exams are simple, they are open book, open notes, if you take 5 minutes to put important info on a sheet they take no time at all. Some questions are directly answered in the book. Easy homework.
Excellent professor!! Goes over topics in detail until you understand them. Extremely brilliant, wish he taught every class at MSU b/c I think I would get an A in everything!! He should get a big raise!!!
the very best professor at MSU. Very clear, very helpful, goes over all the material slowly until everyone understands it. Lots of practical experience with the PHSTAT computer software in the class. He deserves to teach at any Ivy League College.
sorry i do not like him at all..he teaches stat just like we are stat experts..tests are ridiculous! if you are planning to take info 270 take dr. misra in the summer!
A really fun guy. Material and tests can be in left field, but he curves big in the end. Just show up to class and make sure he knows your face and or name.
Very intelligent guy. show up to class, pay attention, do homework and it is almost a guaranteed A. Sit next to the smart students when it time to be put in competing groups because this is part of your grade. Lots of energy and an all around nice guy.
no doubt he is a nice guy and will help you in anything. but if you take his class be prepare to work you a** off. if this is not you major do not take himl. do not say i did not warn you
he was a great teacher and he was helpful if you went to him!
He's ok, he def knows his stuff, but during our class he didn't use the book too often and a lot of the stuff he teaches is not in the book. He tends to teach too fast on hard subjects and go through the easy stuff very slowly
He is just too good.Clearly explains the concepts & basically he knows what he is teaching.
tests are hard, hes nice and makes jokes in class but the class seems to be so long
Statistics class pretty hard
Dr. Berenson is such a nice guy! Seems like this is going to be a pretty easy class.
Dr. Berenson is a great professor. Take him and not Dodd for Global Issues.
He's a really nice guy, that teaches well, makes jokes in class and it very helpful. But his tests are impossible, even though they're open book/notes. Lot's of homework in groups.
I hate him because he never explained clearly. Lot of homeworks and unfair grading. do not take him.
Truly fair, despite openly left-wing ideologies. Sincerely interested in his students. However, spoke excessively about his daughter's case, and pushed leftist philosophies without giving credence to conservative ideas. Hopefully these issues will be eliminated as the course is run again. (Spring 2005 was Berenson's first time teaching this class)
He's a good guy, but he shared this class with another professor. It was boring at times, but I was in his section, and he was very passionate about all the topics. Talks about his daughter's case a LOT, but ties it into the topics as much as he can. (sometimes goes off on tangents about her though.) Still, cares a lot about his students.

He's extremely enthusiastic and helpful when you ask for it. Sometimes he can be boring by talking about the same thing over and over but he wants to make sure we all grasp the concept. Tests are open book and has parts where you can work with a group.
Dr. Berenson is the man. I thought this class would be really hard, but the other ratings are a lil off. Teaches the material EXTREMELY well. Really meant to be a teacher. Very clear, gives open book exams which are easy if you study some. He really is worth your money, learn a lot plus should do well. Very comfortable class as well. Dont hesitate.
Goes into too much depth at times, but covers material very well. open book and open notes exam, but still a bit hard if you dont know whats going on. I highly recommend him if you want to learn, but not an easy A
Great teacher, good guy, very passionate and cover material extremely well, makes you think about the subject therefore making it so much easier to learn!
Wow, what a great professor! He really has a feel and passion for teaching the material so precisely and clearly. Its really something else how clear the material is after he teaches it. Open book exams, really caring, nice man. Definitely take him. You will not be dissapointed. Fast grading and feedback given. Finally, if you want to learn, u will

This class may be a little much to digest if u know very little about human rights and justice in other countries - probably worth taking if u are curious about that info. The prof is very passionate about the subject so be prepared to hear him talk, a lot. There are a few books, and most readings are (a bunch of) articles that u need to print out.
Great prof., really knows statistics and is easy to understand, teaches well, open book exams that are not difficult/partially done w/ a partner.Homework helps out a lot, not too many of them.Easy class to participate in, and fun to be in!!!
He really knows his stuff problem is, is that he doesn't realize that you don't know it as well. Runs through the material and always has to talk about his politcal views, which we can do without. Never bothered to pass out an evaluation sheet and really doesn't give a crap about you. Avoid if you can, take if you must.
little kooky with his tangents but at least it keeps you awake and laughing for a dry subject. Class is challenging but he's pretty good at explaining and going over the material. Nothing super hard
Avoid this class by watever means necassary. He wrote the book so he acts like Statistics is common knowledge to everyone...Do not take him if u have another choice. This is my warning to you,
This teacher is horrible. He does not care about you. He takes points off on homework assignments for any grammatical errors or spelling mistakes. This is not english class! Does NOT work with you regarding your grade. Takes points off as well if you do not to your homework or take tests with a rule. Very Anal about being neat! Very frustrating.
He's hyper so be prepared to get dizzy. Explains very well. Good guy. Should expect nothing lower than a B for just showing up!
Yes he's a little hyper and might talk fast but what else do you want? All homeworks are group hw's and gives 3 tests that are ALL open book and open notebook! Class is not an easy A but just do your hw and you'll be fine on the tests!
He, by far, is extremely hyper! He can be nice at times, but goes fast through the material, and he gets upset when you ask him to slow down. His tests, i feel, are nearly impossible, and you basically have to stay and extra 10 minutes to finish. He can be nice at times, especially if your from Peru :). I wouldn't recommend.
Good teacher! He is very repetitive but the info definitely stays with you. He is crazy hyper but hes an interesting guy. Don't be absent, he hates that. Has no problem picking on somebody in the middle of class. Overall, good teacher I would recommend him. Tests are open book, thats the only time i used the book. Easy exams. Lots of hw assignments
Good professor. Willing to help students with any concerns. Like any math course you need to do all the HW so you do not fall behind.
If you want to take an easy new student seminar class, it is this one. Prof Berenson is wacky when he is speaking, which is for the entire class period, and he brings donuts too! A few short easy essays and a resume/leader head at the end. If you do them, you will get an A. Very easy, great prof, and a fun class just because when he speaks he is jumping.
Tried a new method with a quiz each week. Tough to miss any classes.
Quiz each week.. not too bad, but final grade was lower than I expected.. B+..
Just an 'OK' professor if you ask me...Lectures are super boring - he reiterates everything from the book and no practical implications. Quizes - some were straight fwd and some don't have anything related to what he went over.
Quite easily the best professor I've ever had in my educational career(I'm now at the graduate level). He loves what he teaches, and loves to see his students do well. He's totally entertaining to listen to...the man makes a 3 hour statistics course FLY by! If you don't think he's a great professor, you aren't trying to learn.
prof. berenson was awesome, he class was alot of fun and easy. He really wants to see his students do well and graduate. I def recommend students to take his class
he has a great personality and a good sense of humour, BUT, he judges u as soon as u enter his classroom. he hates tardiness and if u come in late, u will be known as the kid that came in late and he has no problem letting u know. he has favorites. he loves athletes. no matter how hard u work in class, he will choose his FAVORITES over you. unfair.
Very nice prof. sometimes too many stories, but i still enjoyed his class. 3 tests, a team hw, and a team project -not bad at all. he is very helpful if u ask him for help and tests are easy as long as u practice doing hw.some people say that there is no relevance to real life situations, but i guess they were sleeping in class. i highly recommend!
He is terrible, do not take him. avoid at all costs. He curses the groups out. He says shut the f*** up, not even caring who you are, what your problems are, what your concerns. He favors certain people that are his puppies. I dont have time for that****, DO YOU? well if u do take him. He contradicts he own****. terrible, he will fail you!!!!!!!!
This Professor lacks the real world experience to teach at the graduate level and employs a grade school mentality with quizzing. Don?t have a carrier or full time job because he expects you to take a quiz every class. He is also the author of the text used which is as comprehensible as hieroglyphics pre Rosetta Stone.
Don't know what he others are rambling about... Berenson was awesome. Very liberal, funny, takes great interest in his students. I got an A on the exam studying only 1 hour before. Very hyper in a good way, jumps around the room ranting about the news. Anyone who bad mouths him most likely never showed up for class or did nothing. Easy A or B.
good professor! has strong opinions in topic and everyone is aloud to give theirs as well tests were essay format and mutiple choice but easy as long as you paid attention in class used clicker for attendance a lot of the topics were interesting too
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!! just rambles on not really teaching.. he relies heavily on his powerpoint slides.. but considering most people don't understand his tests (although we get 100% on required homework), needless to say he is a bad professor.. talks very loud but too fast to understand... rarely takes questions, and is not helpful outside of class.
He is not an easy prof. but if you do your work and listen you'll do fine
This professor is GREAT. His exams overall are not that hard, they are either open book/notes or use a one sheet of paper. However, you do have to know the material to get a good grade. He was very funny and energetic-very important when taking a night class. HE MAKES STATS FUN AND when he explains the material it all makes sense. TAKE HIM
Take him! He is a great professor and makes class enjoyable. Tests are not easy but if you put the time into it you'll get an A.
Energetic professor. Pay attention to lectures/slides and you should be fine for the exams. Open book/notes exams BUT you must be prepared/know where to find info/what kind of info you have. Found listening to him was easier than reading/learning from his co-authored text
I really did not care for this professor. He gives quizzes EVERY class, and they are in partners but if you don't understand the material you really can't pass the quizzes. His tests are hard and in essay form. When you ask for help in class he doesn't really care. I would suggest someone else.
He is very passionate, energetic, and extremely smart. He is one of the really good professors in SBUS and obviously he is demanding so if you want to learn and willing to work hard than should really take him
His teaching style is good but his exams are very hard. Exams are nothing compared to inclass work, home work or assignments.
Rushed thru slides @ lightning speed. Explains very quickly how to do problems then gives instant, GRADED quizes on the problems. (Not mentioned on the syllabus at the outset of the course) U never really know if you understand the material until exam time. Stats can be a cool topic, but he ruined it for me. GOOD LUCK if you take this class.
He teaches really great but the exam is not near anything he teaches in the class. Exams are hard. They are not even close to the home work assignments.
Great personality, knows his stuff. However he does not prepare you for the exams. Homework are a breeze, but tests are no where the same. Very energetic and you will not fall asleep.
he is generally a nice guy until you get to know him. he is now changing his curriculum and used our class as the "guinea" pigs for his future classes. He basically gives you a MEMO to do every week calculating pointless statistical bs and when he grades your memos, he grades like an english teacher. ! BEWARE OF HIM..ranted about daughter everytime
Dr. Berenson is a nice guy, but his tests are extremely hard and not consistant with what we learned. I got a 103 on the first then a 69 on the second with the same amount of preparation. He seems to be so smart that he cannot communicate the material well.
Very fair professor. Great knowledge of the material, energetic, but you have to do the work and keep up with the homework problems to reinforce the concepts. Great class
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this professor. He seemed like a great professor at first. His directions to the excel assignments make no absolute sense. He is a smart man, in fact he wrote the book but thats all he knows. Im a student with a 3.4 gpa and this class messed me up.
Classic example of a professor who knows the material but doesn't know how to teach it. His test are hard and the homework assignments aren't clear. When you ask a question he gets upset that you don't understand what he is saying.
Great professor but you will have to figure out most of the material. Lets you have a "cheat" paper with formulas for the tests. Not easy but not impossible either. Homeworks (team and individual) for every topic and 3 tests and 2 presentations.
If you do poorly on just one exam, he'll make you feel like a complete failure with his pretentious talk and make false assumptions as to why you're a letdown.
Nice guy. Passionate about his subject. So much so, that he speaks fluently in Greek letters, and Statistical abbreviations. Don't take if you have trouble following that type of lecture. VERY disorganized homework assigning. HARD tests, even with cheat sheets, no curve that I'm aware of. VERY math intensive.
Nice guy at first until he starts grading your exams and projects. He speeds through the PowerPoint slides assuming that you understand everything. When you ask a question he confuses you more with his answer. Hardly available for help. Barely gives you partial points. If he had a nasty attitude he'd be the worst teacher I’ve ever had. Avoid him.
Dr. Berenson was an amazing professor. He talks the entire class time, but isn't too boring. His tests are easy (you are allowed to use a sheet of paper with formulas and definitions on it for the tests). He's very nice and the memo is a good way to boost your grade at the end. Do all the hw,(similar questions on mystatlab you can follow). Take him
Don't take him he confuse u
Berenson is easily one of the most passionate professors I've ever had. He tells you stories all throughout class. He can be confusing at times, but overall is a great professor. Pretty easy class. The tests were LONG but you are allowed a cheat sheet which obviously helps. I'd take him again without a second thought.
Super passionate about statistics but you'll walk out of the class confused. His tests can be pretty hard but let's you use a formula sheet. Super talkative and no class participation happens. Take him if you have to but try to get a different professor if you can.
STAY AWAY FROM HIS CLASS!
Super knowledgeful but don't know how to deliver .if you ask question make you more confuse. If you want your Gpa to 2.0 then take this!
Mark berenson is the WORST professor i have ever had. Taking him now for business stats and its making me want to pull my hair out. I can not stress this enough.. AVOID. AT. ALL. COSTS.
He is very passionate about statistics and his lectures do seem to drag sometimes but he gives useful information. You will need the book or ebook because of the tables it has and need to buy the code online as well. Get to use cheat sheets during Tests. Not too bad of a professor. You either take notes from his Powerpoints or learn by yourself
Passionate about statistics but unfortunately goes over difficult material TOO FAST. Assumes that you have a firm background in statistics because of some lame primer you take before the class. Nice guy but puts things in the final exam that he never covered. TOUGH GRADER. Better be able to take notes fast!
Excellent teacher. His class is hard, but he really wants you to learn. He's an expert in statistics and it shows. He loves the students who come to class prepared with questions. My girlfriend got sick during the semester and he made special appointments with me to take exams so I could take care of her. Definitely take him and work hard.
This class was pretty easy and Dr. Berenson made the class fun. He was passionate about statistics and his knowledge was easy to see. The notes were always online as well as other helpful materials. Definitely wanted the students to understand the subject and excel in the business school.
This professor knows his stuff about stats. He eat, sleeps breaths this subject. He likes to explain things A LOT so you WILL get confused during his lectures and you WILL fall behind if you skip class. He doesn't count attendance and he does drop your lowest grade. Pay attention, try, and you'll do fine in the class.
Have fun teaching yourself so you can do the homework. He does give 3 tests over the semester and drops the lowest one. I was fortunate enough to do well on the first two, so i didn't have to take the last one. Most of the class struggled, but it was because they weren't paying attention during the lectures The project is long and difficult
Amazing Lectures, clear cut slides and presentation. Funny guy too. Must know basics in statistics before hand, because this is a 500 level course. Pay attention to his lectures.
This class will be a challenge if you don't attend class because one day of work is like your missing 1/3 of the exam. Having this class in the morning was really tough and especially since he is so boring. There are 3 exams, which one is dropped. I didn't have to take the final because I passed the first 2. His project is more than 30 pages!
Extremely hard exam which there was only one of. The projects are extremely detailed just ask tutoring center to review your project. Try to articulate your point well during the presentation. I wouldn't recommend his class because a lot of information crammed in into several weeks but the highlight is that you use statistical software to compute.
Berenson really knows his stuff & is a funny guy BUT he lectures all class and expects you to pick up on everything. There were 2 projects the first one, my submission was 40 pages long & the second one was 15 pages don't get me wrong I received an A & B+ on the projects but they were difficult due to the lack of explanation & very time consuming.
absolutely terrible. homework assignments due before class every day and one major group project due at the end of the semester. ask him for help in class & he will just yell at you and basically tell you that you're stupid. no help at all. All he does is yell at you during class while reading off of a powerpoint. DON'T TAKE HIM. you'll regret it!!
Berenson is an energetic guy and you can tell he has a passion for Stats. Assigns HW before class begins and assigns a big group project due at the last week of the semester. Cool guy but can get a little annoying at times. You have to study hard for his exams and make sure you show up to class. I still would recommend him.
Unless you plan to a statistician this class is not for you. If your looking to get an easy 3 credit class this not for you. The book is a waste of money as it doesnt really help you understand the class & is jus as confusing as him. The only thing it would be useful for is the 1 quest. assigns. Come in late he will treat you like crap. Dont do it!
Professor Berenson lectures for an hour every class and explains the concepts well, his mind just scatters all over the place. He has the class do all the actual classwork in the last 10 minutes by shouting out directions and not repeating himself. He is very hard to follow and you really have to focus on what he is saying and what is important.
Overall, I didn't like this class much. He recently changed the way he teaches the class. You're put together in a group of 3 and you work with the same people the whole semester. There's group projects, 2 exams, 1 team paper project, & a presentation towards the end of the semester. If you don't show up to class, you receive a 0 for in class work.
He seemed like a nice guy in the beginning. But he would yell at students for leaving and call them stupid if they did not understand the material. I managed an A- all semester until he gave my group a 70 for the project because we did not put down what he wanted to hear. Wish I could say I enjoyed the class, but I would be lying.
