He really doesn't teach theory. if you're asked to explain the concepts using his teachings you won't be able to. You'll be able to do problems just fine but you will have to do a lot of extra work and studying to learn the theory (WHICH IS SUPER INTERESTING). Great prof though.

Had him for 1004 and made sure I got him for 1005. He's very personable. Goes through examples quickly but makes sure everyone gets complex stuff before continuing. Humorous too. Available through twitter during class and even at 2 am. Good prof all in all.

Great prof - both fun and really helpful! Definitely go to his lectures, especially if you struggle with math. He gives lots of examples during class. Be aware tho that those examples are usually easier than what you will see on a test or exam. Do your homework and it is an easy pass.

Funny as hell. He really knows how to engage with the class and keep you paying attention. Do not miss his classes as he teaches everything extremely well but missing one could lead to confusion and further problems later on in understanding.

Very good prof knows how to make students understand what he is doing. Likes to take his time when writing notes. Tends to take 30 minutes to start his lectures so if you show up late you wont miss anything other than his daily bad joke. Tests are super easy also.

He even took the time to publish two tutorial books (so far) for the students of 1104 and 1005. Very refreshing class. He also uses Twitter to answer questions and likes to get class feedback on everything.

I really hated him at first. He talks too much and doesn't teach for the whole class (usually talks for the first 10-30 minutes.) I found his teaching style a bit odd, forgets to introduce a topic or give context often. As the term progressed ( I had him for 1104 and 1004) he gets easier to follow, his notes are clear. Still talks a lot....

Mark is the funniest prof ive ever had. he really knows what hes teaching and its easy to learn. he makes his on methods up to do questions easier. once u get over his pink crocs and his boardshorts, u will really like him. easy tests and great environment.

Amazing Prof! His sense of humor can get annoying at times, but he explains theory so well that his occasional joke-breaks feel necessary under that much load. Attending and taking notes is extremely helpful, but you can still pass if you study exclusively from the text book

Professor Blenkinsop was honestly the best professor I had in my first semester of studies. His lectures are very good and he's a great at teaching the material. He cares about his students and answers all the questions he gets asked with enthusiasm.

Assignments were not that hard, as they were mostly covered by the lecture notes. The exam was a big step up from the assignments since there were no tests. Doing the Problem Sets throughout the semester and attending PASS sessions (especially after the first few weeks) can help a lot in preparing for the exam.

Goes through the material very well. Clearly explained all the concepts and warns you which ones students tend to struggle with. The course is a bit challenging at times but with him it shouldn't be bad at all. Definitely a great prof.

Berry Good Professor

He is a good professor but he is very very winey and get flustered when he starts writing the notes wrong. He threatens to cancel class when this occurs but never does, what a let down. He also goes right till the start of the next class so you basically have to run to your next class. However, he was very good at teaching the material.

I only realized how good this guy is when I had other profs and realized how much he cares. He'll answer your question, even if it's simple, and tells you why it's good that you asked. DO NOT BE SHY... he'll tell you that simple things are VERY important . Makes fun of himself. Knows his stuff!

Bortshorts is probably the best Math prof you can get for first year. His lectures go over topics very clearly and he makes sure that you know what to expect for both tests and the exam. Hes great, if not better for 1005 as well. Funny guy as well

Fall of 2019. Very accommodating to students when students asked for help. There wasn't a lot of textbook reading; there were assigned practice questions, but they weren't mandatory. We did have a set of practice problems due online every Friday night that were mandatory. He expected students to show up to every class as he did not post the notes.

Best prof all year. Show up and follow along and its an A

I am writing this during COVID time, he is an extremely considerate person and all the deadlines for the assignments are soft deadlines before a hard deadline a few days later to accommodate technical issues. He opts for pdf notes with a podcast to follow along, low file sizes. A real G who bee keeps, but don't cheat as it's a big no no for him.

He loves to talk a lot in lectures/podcasts, but his questions on exams and assignments were really easy. Just read the notes and practice as needed, and you'll be fine.

Mark is the reason I'm sane right now. Cannot express how much he cares about student success. He alters his course load based on his students' other course Ioads, I emailed him about an extension and he responded with double what I asked for. He puts effort into being accessible, including hosting midnight office hours for international students.

He's awesome. Organized materials and lectures. He holds zoom regularly every week so you can ask questions. Easy A if you're willing to learn. Everything is available for you already just need to study.

Lots of small assignments that are not worth much. A few more important assignments. Posts podcasts to listen at your own rythm. Notes are posted too. He truly cares about his students and is strongly against e-proctoring. Lots of office hours availability.

Absolutely based professor! By far the best math prof. I've had so far. Mark is a funny, accommodating and understanding guy and there's never a dull moment in his lectures! 100% would take one of his classes again!

I've had four different calc professors over the years, and Mark's by far the best one I've had. Funny, relaxed guy who always makes sure that the class understands the material before moving on. While I didn't need to get help from him during the course, all my friends who did said that he was super understanding and helpful.

He talks fast but you'll get used to it otherwise he was great. The textbook was not required but he suggested specific problems from it for practice. He offers a tutorial booklet as well that he prepared himself and some of the test questions were very similar to the examples shown in the booklet. The booklet was $20 so I'd suggest getting it.

The second time I've had Mark. This course was a lot tougher, and no formula sheets, which isn't his call to make. The tutorials are "mandatory", I would recommend going even if it's boring because if you need a grade change, he won't do it if he sees you don't attend. Tests are also during tutorials. He's super approachable and willing to help.

I heard from my friends in the summer that MATH 1005 was hard. Mark made it a literal cake-walk. His tests were really easy as it was just problems from the textbook. His lecture notes were great despite him getting off track at times and funky handwriting. Final was very easy if you find previous exams. This man should be paid a lot more :)

Mark will do everything he can to be helpful in and out of class and I mean it. Mark answered all my small dumb questions in class as well as saved my a$$ on the road near campus when I got a flat, if you own a WRX and forget/loose your lug at home Mark has you covered. Seriously no complaints, do what you must to get in his class.

I'd sell my soul for this man. Hands down he is the only reason I have passed this math class. I suck at the subject and Mark never failed to make me feel supported. His teaching method is so unique and everything he says in class has a purpose even if you don't realize it at first. I actually would take math for fun if it was Mark teaching.

I really enjoyed taking MATH1107 with Blenkinsop, and this is coming from someone who was dreading taking this course beforehand. The material is not hard to grasp as long as you apply yourself. If you put in the effort, it's easy. I found all the tests to be pretty fair, assignments were often short and not too difficult. Great guy, really cares.

Professor Mark is awesome! Go to his classes because he explains everything so well! He gives real applications for what you are learning and shows how this theoretical stuff is used in real life... especially like the example of netflix and amazon. He's also really relatable and has other interests and is easy to talk to.

Mark is a certified g, my friends and I got stuck with a flat tire on the hog's back and university drive intersection. We didn't have a lug wrench, and he happened to have his wife's tools for the same car.

Mark is actually such a gem & one of the best professors I've had in my first year. Even when I didn't want to go to class or didn't understand the topics, his lectures and energy that he brings made me attend and made my time worth it. If you do your work and stay on top of it, Mark provides exceptional help and genuinely shows his care.

He always made sure to communicate with us about graded material and posted lecture videos online for us to be able to review after class (though he could be a bit more organized with the upload of the course outline). His tutorial booklets were also a great help.

Good pace even if some people don't like it but I know why... people come to class unprepared and ask stuff we should know so he goes back and explains it yet again. I like how he connects thigns and I like his tangents because they usually apply. If they don't they are always really funny. Ask him how he beat a speeding camera using calculus!!!

he guides you very well from lecture #1 to the exam. some exam questions look different because he doesn't write them all (if there are 5 profs for the whole class then he wrote 1/5 of the exam). GET HIS TUTORIAL BOOK!!!

I hate math but prof made class fun and way easier to do. He's funny, caring, and a good teacher. He will rant about things unrelated to class, but it keeps it relaxed, especially at 8:30am. He's a reasonable grader and easy to talk to if you have concerns. No textbook needed, but he'll offer a tutorial book (useful). Would def take his class again

Mr. Blenkinsop is an outstanding teacher. He is extremely witty and his sense of humour is unparalleled. He is also extremely friendly and understanding. Mr. Blenkinsop always takes his time to make sure his students understands the content and tries to be wary of his pacing. Overall, I am extremely glad I got to meet him this semester!!

Very nice professor and I really enjoy his marking scheme. I think he could benefit from having the initial equation typed in his notes and then the work written by hand to make it easier to read. Overall though he made the morning classes bearable and you can tell he genuinely wants to help students.

Hilarious and helpful, but tends to go on long, sometimes unrelated tangents. If you go to the lectures you'll be fine. No real risk beyond that, quizzes once a week on whatever was happening in lecture. Attendance isn't mandatory but genuinely that's all you need. He has his own textbook, essentially, do those questions and go to lecture.

One time a someone asked about a courses their not enrolled in the he answered it and even went ahead to put the notes on the subject in our Calculus Brightspace lol. If you do the webworks in this class its an easy 100% in the Assignment portion as you can attempt it over and over. 5/5!

Mark is a funny dude who cares for our success. His lectures are very in depth with the corresponding material though he can get off-topic often. Him going off-topic is a great mental break as it can help us refocus on the material and not fall asleep in class. When you need to contact him, he's very responsive with his emails with some exceptions.

Mark is actually trying to be as helpful as he can. Don't make it harder than it needs to be. I made the mistake at the start and was a bit harsh on him, but he will help you as much as he can. Read your notes, pay attention in class, can get an A.

This one integration lecture changed everything for me going into the 1004 final. Without this, I would not have done very well on the final, but after he explained the concepts, it made everything clear. He has really informative and engaging lectures where you actually learn the concepts. He also has very strong opinions on the new sign.

Gave a MATH1005 review for all classes before the final, he wasn't even teaching the class this semester, and was very knowledgeable and kind.

Mark is so funny and makes calculus lectures actually enjoyable, this guy is probably the best math prof you could get. He sometimes go fast in lectures so if you are quick at math this class is perfect for that. Make sure you get his tutorial book they will have you getting 100% on every quiz

funny asf, i cant lie. every time I showed up to class there was something new going on and he somehow relates it to math (occasionally) nontheless, always very funny. Lectures where posted online so class wasn't rly mandatory and the booklet helped get through the tutorials. The weekly homeworks where also relatively easy.

Easily my favourite professor this semester. Make sure you get his tutorial booklet for 20 bucks, its a great resource for the quizzes and the final exam. It is still a calculus course, so if you don't practice a lot you won't get a good grade, but this prof does everything he can to help us succeed. Bonus points for the clown colours in the notes.

Love this prof. Very generous grading and his quizzes are very easy to do well on. The exam was mainly dependent on the online assignment which was harder than the quizzes but bearable, but other than that I enjoyed the course.

Mark is so funny, if he had a podcast, I would be all over that. He is also super nice and gives a lot of opportunities to succeed. Be ready to be asked a lot of surveys though. I once asked him a question about linear algebra and he went ahead and posted his notes on our calculus brightspace; nuff said, goated guy.

I thought he was preparing us for failure as other classes, including the class with the main teaching prof, were doing other things. However, thankfully we were prepared and I guess he has a different teaching style. He's hilarious and more than reasonable. Unfortunately the uni cut his contract; sad bc this guy is one of the best profs.

Dr. Blenkinsop's lectures were very well thought out and pre-planned, however I find that he went on a couple too many unnecessary tangents (although he will tell you there is always a purpose to them). He also cancelled several lectures at the last minute, but posted online lectures as a replacement. Caring prof, who wants his students to do well.

Honestly like the best prof I've had. He makes 8AM lectures entertaining and def kept me awake. Really easy course especially if you had just done grade 12 math courses (questions are 90% review from high school)

I went to the crash course to prep for the 1104 exam, walked out understanding more than I did after any of my actual lectures. The prof's lectures are concise and engaging, and utilize a few demonstrations and analogies to reinforce difficult concepts. I highly recommend this professor, especially if you have trouble grasping abstract concepts!

I learned more from this single 3 hour lecture then from my prof all semester. His tutorial booklets are also great for practice and are inexpensive. Without his Crash Math lectures and tutorial booklets there is no way I would've passed the exam.

Amazing, hilarious, caring. He covered three difficult topics in the span of 4 hours. He interacted and had fun with the students. He is clear, approachable, and understandable. He explains the applications of these topics, not regurgitate info. The examples were super helpful. I wish he wasn't being let go.

Went to his crashed math course for linear algebra MATH1104 and it was honestly more helpful than any of the lectures from my prof. Wish Mark taught my class instead, his explanations were on point.

Considerate of other people's time, held a review session for free before our exam. Provided meaningful advice and relevant examples on how to approach solving questions. Would recommend!

Amazing prof. Explains everything clearly and simplifies just the right amount. LOVE his notes, very helpful for review and for examples to prepare for exams. Hia exams are always fair and similar to the lectures/the tutorial booklet. Only thing that sucked was the 50% final but it is what it is. GET HIS TUTORIAL BOOKLET.

Best prof you could have. He teaches exactly what you need for the final exam, he also gives hints throughout the semester. He is disorganized but if you can get over that, he is absolutely the best prof for this course and I wish he taught more courses. He cured my math anxiety. Love you Mark

One of the best professors at Carleton! He uploads all the lecture content online, so there's no need to rush to class just to take notes. Super accommodating, and honestly made taking a summer course so much more enjoyable. Huge shoutout to the TAs as well—they were absolutely fantastic!

Great professor

Dr. Blenkinsop was very supportive like just ask him and he will help you out. Attending the class helps a lot with knowing the material. Make sure to practice so the class can be easy. It's not that easy but once you practice and get the work done it will be so easy after. Also the way he teach is also so easy to understand and know the material.

This professor is widely admired by students for a reason. He makes himself accessible and provides a clear outline of what you will be tested on. Quick to respond to emails and kind when questions are asked during lectures. I would absolutely take him again if the opportunity arose. 10/10!

Truly Amazing professor, Great lectures very entertaining and funny great at tying abstract concepts to real world scenarios If you show up to all the lectures and do the homework assignments hard to not get A- or above.

The professor gave me a genuine understanding of math and math language, he's easily contactable, funny guy, and has great in class / online recorded lectures. BUY HIS TUTORIAL BOOK, really good questions in there, if you study it -> you will SURELY see questions alike from the booklet on his midterms/final exam

Great prof, quizzes were very fair and easy if you buy his tutorial book. Final exam was very difficult since he did not make the final exam. Overall a great teacher, very funny and keeps you engaged.

Taking his crash course is the best way to fill in gaps in your knowledge. He is a brilliant instructor and tells you what you need to know and what to expect on an exam. He talks to you like an adult and explains common mistakes and how to look at problems with a different perspective. I will 100% recommend anyone to take his course.
