BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
easily the coolest teacher around. This guy loves what he does, and his enthusiasm and encouragement kept me interested and excited about the course material. I had him years ago, and he has helped me out alot through the years with things. simply the man
Best English class because of a wonderful teacher!!! Not easy but worth the effort!
What a great guy! Wonderful teacher.
Best teacher ever!

dont think hes too great of a teacher. gives way too much work. not worth the time to take his class. too opinionated about many sensative subjects needs to shut his mouth
Excellent professor. He is so nice, funny, and down to earth. He is so helpful!!! His poetry class is so interesting! Tough, but fair. I got an A.
Professor Bourdeau is extremely intelligent and hard working. His dedication to his profession and students is obvious from the instant you enter the room. He infuses both wit and humor into his lessons, making them both enjoyable and though provoking
Although he helped me develop as a reader/writer, I found him smug and condescending.
hard teacher, if u want to learn...hes a good teacher otherwise hes an ass
Did not know what the hell this guy was talking about most of the time. He tried to find a symbol in everything, and he talked down to his students.
It is obvious that the people who give this man a poor rating are not able to appreciate what he has to offer. He is a tough professor, but one who will instill a love of literature. He is also the most helpful teacher I have ever had.
He is an amazing teacher with an EXTREME sense of humour..you will laugh for alot of the class but you will also walk away from class knowing the lit inside and out. He IS tough because he knows what you're capable of.
He is the most amazing teacher I have ever had.
really interesting
He was not the best teacher I ever had, he did not leave a lasting impression on me. He is a very intelligent man though.
All his lectures are references towards the catholic relgion. He claims if you ever got an "A" in class you never deserved it, and that the teacher felt sorry for you. All in all not a very good teacher. He only teaches well towards his pets!!
By far the best Professor that i have ever had! He is a huge mentor in my life. He actually cares about his students and is always there to help. He is strict about his papers being in on time but is there to help up until the day its due. great guy!!
He not only instilled in me a love of literature, but also a passion for teaching. The most amazing teacher I have ever had. The students who dislike him are unable to appreciate his intellect and helpfulness. He is the reason why I am an English teacher today.
He is such a wonderful prof.!! He scared me at first a little, I thought he was going to be a jerk...boy was I wrong! I learned so much in his classes. You will only get an A if you truely deserve it, but he's always ther to help you.Take this class if you want to test your writing.
A brilliant, interesting and hilarious Professor. He is challenging, but in a way that inspires you to learn. He'll expect more from you because he knows you can do more. Take his class! Wish I would've known about him earlier.
Don't take his class if you're not willing to work hard. I have never worked so hard for a C in my life. However, he may have been the only Suffolk teacher who ever taught me what I needed to know to go on to a four year school. He also has the most awesome personality. Bourdeau rocks!
Very good teacher. A lot of work, but it helps you in the end. I worked hard for by B, but it was fun at the same time. He has a great personality and gets everyone involved.
teacher who expects work to get done... I hate that! but other than that, hes very insightful and really breaks down any thing that you need help with... he usually leaves a constructive critisism on your papers that you can use as outlines on next papers. "The Foremost Expert on Coolness!" :)
the best professor i've had at suffolk yet, this is the 2nd class ive taken with him. writes many helpful comments on papers, this class is not easy but is worth the effort
at first he was very intimidating but then as the class went on i loved him so did everyone else!! hes very helpful and very clear about directions. his grading can be harsh on papers but hes pretty fair when it comes to a final grade. he has 10 ? quizzes every class and they are very simple.
He's very intimidating. He's not very clear with his papers, talks really fast, and doesn't cut anyone slack for anything. Try not to take his class at all. It will do nothing but stress you out.
I really enjoyed this class. Prof Bourdeau can seem a little scary, but he really loves teaching and his students. I went into that class expecting to have a good time. His papers are hard, but he's more than willing to help any student during his office hours.
This professor has high standards. If you are really interested in learning how to write, then his class is the one to take. If you are just looking to skate by, take someone else's class.
If you take one of his classes be prepared for hard work, and it has to be done on time or he'll drop you! You can also ONLY miss 3 classes or he'll drop you. But I stuck it out and would highly reccomend taking a class w/him. He's fun, interesting, and helpfull!
HE SUCKS
great teacher, cares about his students. explains clearly and if still in doubt he will explain again. approachable take advantage of his office hours, he will help you with your papers, but he will not write them for you. he will teach you what you need to know for a 4 year college.incredibly helpful.
Bordeau is a strict teacher, there is no doubt about that. He expects works to be in on time, and also done well. However, he is extremely intelligent, and always willing to help. Despite the bit of work that needds to be done, he will make you the best writer you can possibly be. I highly recommend his class.
Outstanding professor. Lectures are both life affirming and life changing experiences. Some might be taken back by his rigorous academic standards, but do not be scared off. I learned so much about life and literature through this class. The best professor at Suffolk, and the best professor I have ever had.
Bourdeu is undoubtedly a tough teacher, who expects a lot from his students. If you are not willing to work up to his high expectations then he's probably not for you. He's only pushing you to reach your full potential, however. He gets to the point when he teaches and he's a cool guy too. He's the best teacher I've had at Suffolk.
horrible attitude i ended up droppin out of his class
He is not mean..you just didnt try most likley.. anyway he is a tough teacher but well worth it. His lectures are inspiring and he WILL make you a better writer. Miss one essay though and you fail. But he is a GREAT teacher and will help anyone who asks for it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM 4 any 1 who wants 2 learn something while in college. #1 TEACHER
Anyone who does not appreciate Professor Bourdeau proves to be ignorant and unworthy of what he has to offer. It is because of him that I am an English teacher today, and I aspire to be the teacher that he is. He is extrememly tough, but he is also the most helpful teacher you will ever have.
Very difficult not very nice
Bourdeau is a hard teacher and you have to be willing to do the work and put the effort into it. He does criticize people and pick on them for certain things. He is overall a good professor and is dedicated. He is helpful if u ask for help. He can teach you alot and make you a better writer if you are patience but just be careful.
did not like him at all....very bad teacher and hard grader. too many essays...too many tests... and too much reading
Very cool teacher. Can be fun but a fairly difficult class. Hard essays and tests. But not impossible. would take again any time
Professor B. is an excellent professor. If you work hard on your papers and do the reading (memorizing very specific material for the quizzes)you can get an A. He is one of the best professors I have had at Suffolk. If you are prepared to work hard you will succeed. He is awesome and I highly recommend him!!! :) Thanks Professor B!
The person below me doesn't know what they're talking about. He's the best teacher I've ever had. But it's not an easy class. That's so we will learn.. you know, that thing you're supposed to do while in class.
Prof Bourdeau is a GREAT professor, easygoing and demands good work, but only YOUR best. I found his class easy, but it was a lot more work compared to the first time I tried to take EG11, which was a joke. If you read the essays and do the work and participate, you'll be FINE. Very clear, outlined work.
Um Professor Bourdeau does not flirt with females.. I am a female. He has two young children and he's a family man. He has better things to do than to flirt with female students. Excellent teacher, anyone who says differently is just a slacker or probably got a bad grade.
Thank you, Professor Bourdeau. You have been an inspiration. I will miss being your student. TO ALL STUDENTS: I cannot say enough about this professor to do him justice. If you love literature and love to learn, take his classes. He is the BEST English professor at SCCC-you are all fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from him...as was I.
Extraordinarily difficult for the non-literature lover.
You have to take him if you are serious about Literature. He is a quick thinker and very sharp, developes your knowledge. He is a difficult professor for those who have a hard time in general with Literature because he makes you work hard and does not give good grades easy at all.
Awesome Professor. I have learned a lot from him.
very difficult but helps you out a lot. if you are willing to work hard, he is willing to help you. just watch out for his random left wing political views, he lays em on kinda thick. but even though i don't agree with his politics he's a pretty good guy and a good teacher, don't piss him off or you'll know.
Other ratings are true in that he is difficult however, he is willing to help as long as you ask. He grades papers(5)much easier if he sees you at his office hours to discuss the assignment. If you make an effort, he'll notice and take it into consideration. Overall, kind of a jerk but tolerable for a semester. Do the work, show you care & it'll be o
If you are an English major at Suffolk, it is absolutely necessary for you to CAPITALIZE on class time with Mark Bourdeau. His effort to put forth interesting lectures and challenging assignments is a testament to his dedication. Be prepared to write, and to write well-his classes are not for the "compositionally impaired." VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
he pushes his students so they get the best grades they can. if you try your best you'll do fine. hes a very bright guy, knows what hes talking about. i would take him again.
I adored this guy. His discussions are excellent, and he truly wants you to learn and succeed in his class and beyond. Take him, and don't be a lazy ass.
Very nice guy...funny...but DO YOUR WORK!!!!! Oh...and he LOVES MLA
Very intelligent man, which makes the class somewhat difficult. He is more than happy to help you with anything. Be prepared to write a lot. He gives great criticism on papers. He is also a very, very understanding guy. Don't get me wrong, the class is hard, but he really is a great guy.
You absolutely will want to do the reading, because you'll be completely lost without it and will fail the quizzes and do bad on his essays. Quizzes are easy, (if you do the reading), essays are hard, but he is always willing to help you if you ask. His class was fun and even though it stressed me out at times, I would take him again.
LOVED THIS GUY! KINDA TOUGH ON YOU BUTS HE MAKES U WANT TO DO WELL! HES A PUSHER AND MY CLASS LOVED HIM! NOT ALOT OF HOMEWORK GRADES PAPERS FAIRLY GREAT NICE GUY!!
LOVED THIS GUY! KINDA TOUGH ON YOU BUTS HE MAKES U WANT TO DO WELL! HES A PUSHER AND MY CLASS LOVED HIM! HOMEWORK IS READING THE STORIES..WHEN YOU READ THEM THE QUIZZES ARE A BREEZE! GRADES PAPERS FAIRLY VERY NICE GUY!! VERY INTELLIGENT!!!! EXTREMELY HELPFUL I LOVED HIM!
Very offensive on some of his comments. Found him to be a horrilbe person overall. Made me hate english even more then i already did.. i wouldnt take this guy ever again
Smart guy, but hes way too into literature. If I took only his class I would appriciate the enourmous work we had to do. But if you are a fulltime student, think again before taking him. You need to dedicate most of your time just this class; some days I didnt sleep for 2-3 days to keep up w/my school work. It was simply too much for me to handle.
He is a rather hard professor. He expects a lot from you. If you are not a serious student you will hate his class. He is a really cool guy. I'm so glad I took his class my writing has improved so much and he is so helpful. Very interesting guy, if you work hard he'll be nice to you, don't slack or you'll hate your life. Over all great experience!
Professor Bourdeau is not easy--anyone who is in college to get easy A's should just drop out (WHY are you here?!) This professor will teach you critical thinking, communications, and an appreciation for literature. I got an A through hard work, and I'm taking him again.Plus, he's got a cool leather jacket.
Triple bonus points for this guy. He takes his job seriously and expects his students to as well, as long as you show up to every class prepared you should do fine. He gets you to think and improves your critical thinking and writing. Would take him again.
he is one of the best teachers on Campus... extremmly cool and helpfull... try to take him any chance you get really a great professor, funy tells storys and you learn alot, it was my last class of the day and i really looked foward to it
I took Lit 2 this summer with Professor Bourdeau and I learned a lot. Yes he does expect the best from his students and an A is very reachable as long as he sees his students are trying their best. He is a cool teacher to take, but expect some heavy work. I am a Stony Brook student who took his class during the summer. His class was very enjoyable!
Getting right to the point... Professor Bourdeau is the best teacher I've ever had. If you enjoy literature and can formulate an intelligent opinion in his class they you will learn a lot and enjoy yourself. take him. good luck.
Best Professor ever! I learned so much in his class! Made me such a better writter. He loves to give homework, and quizzes but is more than willing to help anyone! Wonderful and funny guy. Best Professor you can ever take
hands down the best professor i've ever had at suffolk. i wouldn't recommend him to anyone who isn't an english major, though. if you don't hand in an assignment, you'll fail-- and he's a really tough grader. he also makes you work very hard. if you do all of your work and pay attention, he WILL make you a 10x better english student ! he's awesome!
Hard work and worth it. You will learn so very much about reading, writng and analyzing literature. But beware he thinks that hevery cool, knows no boundaries with his students... he obviously dates them.
By far the best professor I've ever had. Once you get used to his endearing eccentricities, you will love him. He can be tough, but he's incredibly helpful and understanding. He's just a wonderful, intelligent guy. Do the work, don't text in class and try to participate. He appreciates every effort you make.
Good Professor. Gives alot of work but he will help you on everything. He sometimes can be pretty funny and hes overall a nice professor. Dont take him if you want a sail through course, you will have to do some work.
alot of work, but it is all worth it in the end. his comments make you a better writer. tough grader but that is what makes you want to succeed more. i really liked him, great teacher. dont take this class if you want to sit there and sleep, you need to pay attention and read what he tells you.
the worst professors i have taken here.he thinks he's teaching at harvard. he gives so much work. don't be absent.watch out males, he obviously favors the females. has no tolerance for students with any disability or giving just a little. i paid a tutor to help with my work and still didn't do good. had a 3.5 going into his class
He's a really challenging professor. He gives a LOT of work and quizes you every day, BUT he is the best professor i've had at Suffolk. His class is the most interesting i've taken so far. I'm a chemistry major and enjoy his class more than any science class i've taken so far. Take him, unless you're lazy.
Funny and out of the norm of teachers. He really takes a lot of effort to know each one of his students personally. He does give a DECENT amount of work for a college student and he wants to help you in your career as a student. I like him as a teacher because his class isn't bull.
He is very good professor. He is hard grader, but if you work hard, you will get an A. he gives a lot of quizzes and six papers. But you will learn a lot from him.
he is an amazing prof. he goes beyond out of his way to make sure all of his students understand the material. but if you are not too interested in school, dont go to class, or dont read do not take this course with him. he gives you as much as you put in and is extremely helpful. you MUST do your reading homework in this class otherwise you will f
He is extremely intelligent, and will help you with anything you need help with. His class is not in any way easy, but you will definitely learn a lot if you actually pay attention and do your work. He's a real funny guy, but don't piss him off. He'll make you look stupid.
He is funny guy, but you have to read alot and if you dont you are done for. He gives a quiz or a test every class witch is not fun. i would not take him is you are not a stronge reader beacuse you will fall way behind
He was a great teacher, funny, personable, and entertaining. Think he loved this girl named Caitlin though, she was all he would ever talk about.
Professor Bourdeau is an extremely tough teacher. He tries to cram so much work within the 15 weeks that you end up going crazy. He expects everyone to know all these references to christianity and the bible that some think he is trying to convert us. He also is a very tough grader. So far the class average with essays has to be around a D.
he is one of the hardest graders i've ever met. i would not recommend him to anyone because there is too much reading and especially if you are a biology major!!!!
The comments are accurate: If you are not willing to work then do not take this class. He's tough but you will become a better student after taking his class; I recommend him. Also, there's some mention to a Caitlin? I've had him for two semesters and this student confused "Caitlin" with Cleveland, as he loves this town and mentions it a lot.
Very very strange and sometimes obnoxious. Our class size went from 30 to 8. He gives way too much work for a 101 class and often complains about his 105 students, while my psych professor has 350. We haven't learned anything except MLA citations which he makes you copy word for word from the book.
If you want to keep your sanity and your GPA, do not take this class with Professor Bourdeau. He simply requires way too much work for a 101 class, and grades as if this were graduate school, way too harsh for a intro 101 course. He is obsessed with himself, rude, and is always out in left feild.
Mark was an awesome teacher. I learned SO MUCH from him and was able to acheive A's on all my papers after taking classes with him. Yes, he expects a great deal, but it is worth it. I took as many classes with him as I could.
Tough teacher, gives a lot of work if you're looking for an easy A, DO NOT TAKE. Gives quizzes on all readings and requires you to write 7-8 essays; the worst being the final research paper which is required to be 15-20 pages. However, he is a really nice, sweet & weird guy who loves music. I got a B+ in his class and would take him again.
Love Mark Bourdeau. I took his intro to Lit class over the summer, and he was just a very fun teacher. He got a little side-tracked sometimes, and had fun with the class, but always remembered where he was when he stopped. Easy grader, very opinionated. Love him. Take his class.
An amazing teacher, he keeps the class talking and is extremely helpful. He throws some funny jokes and personal experiences in the lecture which just makes it so much more fun. He is a challenging professor but if you try your best and ask for his help then you are sure to fly by with at least a B.

I had him back in the Fall of '07 and still find myself appreciating his efforts from that class to this day. We had a 30 class roster on the first day that was dropped to 8-9 on the last day. Not for those looking for an easy A, but you WILL become a better writer after taking him. Quirky, funny, sometimes harsh, but worth it in the end.
I've taken multiple classes with him, he is a fantastic professor. He grades a little harsh on his essays but only because he strives to produce better writers. He tells great jokes and likes to relate to students as much as possible. You will be a better person after taking a class with him.
Bourdeau really increased my confidence in my writing ability because he is a just and honest grader. The class dropped by half b/c he is strict and demanding, but he knows how to dissect the meaning of a piece of writing. What I did not like about him is that he's a communist and I shouldn't have known that because this is an English class.
He's a great professor. He keeps everyone involved and continues to push students forward to strive toward better writing. He is willing to give you the space/time you need as long as it is within the confines of the deadlines. Interesting and very enthusiastic. I had "fun" in an 101 let alone English class. I would take him again if I could ;)
MLA style essays weekly,no revising. All essays must be done or you will fail. If your going to miss a day you must contact him before so. Much reading from book of essays. Quiz on essays read. Final paper can be quite difficult for some people and time consuming. The professor is nice guy but strict when it comes to required work.
Prof. Bourdeau gives a good amount of work and is a pretty tough grader, but he is by far the best professor i've ever had. He is very helpful and does not mind explaining anything you are confused with. I usually hate English, but I actually looked forward going to his class because I knew I would learn something that day. He's a funny guy too.
You will have a quiz every single class, except for the next class after the quizzes he gives for two novels and a play. HE GIVES THE QUIZZES BEFORE HE GOES OVER THE MATERIAL. Although he does allow you to ask questions on what you've read. Absolutely no make ups for the 4 papers throughout the semester.
The 19 quizzes that he gives throughout the semester are given before he goes over the story/poem/play. The questions are pretty rediculous. They're nitpicky and about miniscule details, things that are only mentioned once. Such as ages, birthdays, the kind of fruit trees in front of a house. I guess you'll be ok if you can remember small details
I loved ENG 102. I thought that Prof. Bourdeau definitely expected a lot of us, but afterall this IS college! As far as being helpful goes, he was 100% willing to help all the time. He even lets you send him a rough draft of your essay BEFORE the due date and he will revise it ahead of time, so there is no excuse for doing poorly on papers.
good teacher... likes poker...have to analysis stories and write papers on them
Very good professor, if You are willing to work, you will learn a lot.
He is very passionate about poetry and religion. Everything you read, he will relate to religion in SOME kind of way. He's very helpful but the workload is heavy. You must read a selection every night for hw and take a test on the smallest details during the next class. THEN he goes over it. The tests were medium, not too hard or easy.Pay attention
BEST PROF AT SUFFOLK. does give a lot of work but if you do it and participate he will like you if you don't drop class.
Way too much work
Can you believe this guy actually expects you to read all of the things he assigns on the first day of class and only gives you 3 months to do it? I wish I knew what an upper level lit class was like before I quit my job at tacobell to get an education. I've taken 4 classes with Bourdeau. Do the work, ask for help, get a fair grade. It's that easy.
Made me withdraw from class because I had too many absences and wouldn't even accept a doctor's note. I got straight A's on his papers too!! The quizzes are hard... pay attention.
The best professor at SCCC. I've taken him numerous times. He really wants you to succeed and understand the material. Will always go out of his way to help a student. He's funny too. I can't praise him enough.
I've taken four classes with Prof. B (and embarking on my fifth next semester) the class is demanding but I would recommend him to anyone looking to leave the class a better writer than when then started. Prof. B has A LOT to offer his students of they're willing to do the work for him. He's the most insightful people I've ever met.
Do not take this professor if English is not one of your strong subjects he will judge and accuse you of plagiarism. All he does is give you quizzes and notes. The quizzed are all detail about the stories and are always short answer. He is a terrible teacher.
The guy loves what he's teaching, so he's extremely helpful. However, being as passionate as he is about his subject, he's pretty difficult, and he's absolutely no nonsense. This was the first English class I ever felt like I had to work in, just do the papers, show up, and ask him for help when you need it.
a lot of work and writing. but excellent teacher because he will help you as much as you need.
Professor Bourdeau is definitely a tough teacher. But has no problem helping you out with your work. He is pretty clear on what is on the quiz's, he also adds in random facts for Bonus questions. MOST IMPORTANTLY READ THE TEXTS, IF YOU DO SO YOU WILL PASS!
If you don't like reading a short story EVERY night then I wouldn't recommend this teacher, but otherwise he's pretty cool. He gives daily quizzes and his tests are to prove his points on the stories, but he always has his cup of coffee and bounds around the classroom like a lunatic which would keep anyone alert, attentive and often in good spirits
He is very clear about what he expects, just follow the syllabus and you'll be fine. You will be working a lot for this class, more than most, but it will improve your writing. My class started with 30+ and is down to 20 or so. If you put in the time you'll be good, but if you are looking for an easy A pick someone else
Passionate about his subject, always has coffee, and is prone to amazing tangents. If you do all the readings you will be fine. Quiz after all major reading. 2 papers, midterm, final. Papers you can ask a million questions and he will be so helpful. Love this guy, but if you are looking for an easy class this isnt for you. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Hands down best teacher I have ever had in my life!!! Insanely smart, energetic, engaging and passionate. He is very firm on his rules and regulations and if you don't obey them, there will be consequences. I would take another one of his classes in a heart beat! Hard work, feels good. If you aren't prepared to work, do not take his class.
Great Professor, one of the best I've ever had. Slackers will hate him because he's engaging and challenges you to think about the works.
Best professor and teacher I have EVER had. I had him for 3 semesters. I loved all of his classes! He knows SO much about literature, it's insane! He's the reason I would LOVE to get a PhD in English. He's very personal with all his students; he doesn't treat you like a number. I am a better writer because of him.
Excellent professor! If you are looking to become a better writer, take him. I used to suck at papers but he made me a great writer that prepared me for my education further. Huge inspiration! Very opened minded to interpretation as well! Take him!
Tough class. We started with 30 kids and finished with 12. Their is reading evry night (2-30pgs and we had to read a novel once) and a quiz on the reading next day. Also a paper was due every week on the reading so you have to do it. Lastly at the end of the class you have a final in which you have to answer 2 q's based on the readings. Tough class
YES there is a decent amount of work, but welcome to college. Prof. B is the best professor I have ever had.He lets you email every paper to him before the due date and he enters his corrections/opinions in the paper and sends it back to you. I don't know why more people don't take advantage of it. Also, before quizzes he answers any questions.
Great, engaging professor. Quirky. Tries to connect with class. Honest. TOUGH grader, really shouldve taken advantage of office hours or email questions before. Goes really in depth lectures and expects specific points of insight in papers. Even bombing the papers I cant help but find his class enjoyable and insightful
Best english professor I have ever had! He is helpful and extremely intelligent, and is more than willing to help his students. If your willing to do the work, you will do great in his class.
Easy class. Great and passionate professor. Very accessible and if you are a decent student you will do fine.
He is an awesome guy, genuinely loved going to his class. I used to hate english but since taking this class I enjoy writing. There is a lot of reading and a lot of papers but I honesty didn't mind the work because it was a great class. TAKE HIS CLASSES!
Don't be intimidated by the first couple of classes, he'll seem really tough, but he's really a cool dude. The class is centered on the readings you do before each class and you have to read them because you get quizzed on them and write essays on them! The quizzes seem ridiculous at first, but you'll figure it out after a few. He made english fun
The quintessential example of what an educator should be. I worked hard in his class not because I wanted a good grade, but because he was such a cool guy that I didn't want to let him down. Will go above and beyond to help you if you attend his office hours. Great taste in music, also. I'm an RN now, but he made me fall in love with literature.
He is what a professor should be. The best English professor at Suffolk. Extremely intelligent and 100% helpful with anything just email or go to his office. Yes, he is tough but you will gain a lot from his class.
Ehh wasn't crazy about his class. First it was a lot of work for a intro class and he was very rude. As long as you keep up with the short stories then you will pass the tests like a breeze. If you do not follow the work then I recommend not to take this class.
Very entertaining and funny guy. Doesn't tell you when quizzes are but they are the first day you discuss a new book which is every week. There are about 6 books required for the class not that expensive though. Reading is key for this class. 2 in class essay tests & 2 at home essays.
gives quizzes every week which do not help analyze the passages read for homework expect a lot of homework
Bourdeau's classes are by no means ones that you can slack off in (I had him for American Lit I & Poetry), you definitely have to do all of the readings, but he is such an impassioned professor and so into what he does and genuinely helping his students. His classes are fun and engaging even early in the morning. TAKE HIM!
There are quizzes for every reading, but Bourdeau was by far my absolute favorite professor at Suffolk. He cares so much about what he does, has killer taste in music, and really funny stories about his college days. He is strict, but so knowledgeable about his material and classes are fun and interactive and you will learn so much. Take him!
If you like English, this is the professor to take. You will read a lot, and there are quizzes almost every day, but this professor's passion for the subject is contagious. Also very funny and extremely helpful.
Okay, I took him my first semester in college ever and I was taking back right away by the work load, but was able to keep up, have to read a lot and write a good amount of essays but he very much knows what he is doing and you will learn a lot, I extremely enjoyed his class, enough that I came back to rate my professor just to tell everyone.
Professor Bourdeau was extremely clear and concise in all analyses of the novels we read. He helped me to understand and fully grasp the concepts presented in the pieces we read. When it comes to essays, there were only four for the semester and Professor Bourdeau helped to make your essays better and would help if you asked for it. Would recommend
There is a lot if reading involved but he explains the novels throughly. He is a very funny teacher and makes his classes enjoyable. He is always willing to help you just need to reach out. He reads your paper before its due and checks it like he is grading it and gives you feedback. HIGHLY recommend. If you don't take him you are missing out!
One of the greatest teachers I've ever had. He is incredibly passionate about what he teaches, he's funny, and he's truly there for and cares about the students. He motivates you to participate and to try your best, no matter how much work you're given. He also gives great feedback if you see him before your essay is due (take advantage of that).
Probably the hardest class I've taken so far. Bourdeau is a great professor, but you need to be ready to participate. Read the assignments on time because you will be tested the next day. He also requires about 3 essays. If you decide not to do them, you WILL fail the class. He is there to help you if you are looking for it however.
Fantastic class and extraordinary professor. He's passionate about what he does, he's funny, intelligent, insightful, and very interesting. VERY helpful--take advantage of his office hours because he gives great feedback before essays are due. I looked forward to every lecture, and he made the class incredibly interesting. I'd HIGHLY recommend him!
Save yourself the aggrivation. He is an extremely tough grader, the essays he assign are also very hard and there is so much reading. He also can be rude just in general. Only plus side is he gives u good feedback on ur essays
Reading is due each class & there is always a quiz on what you've read. Expect 5-6 papers in ENG101 & 4-5 in ENG102. He is a hard grader but he gives great feedback. This professor REALLY wants to educate you in writing & analyzing literature. He is available to help with papers & he WANTS to help. Overall you will gain a lot from taking his class
If you just need ENG101 for your degree I'd recommend a different professor. Bourdeau expects a lot, you HAVE to read the material for every class, and make sure to go to his office hours if you need help, he'll tell you exactly what you need to write. If you love literature(or 80s alternative music) and are an English major, Bordeau is essential.
Professor Bourdeau is a wonderful professor. He is super enthusiastic and his lectures are entertaining and enlightening. His class requires a lot of dedication, but luckily he gives amazing critique and feedback for the writing assignments. He sticks to the syllabus from Day 1 and nothing on there is optional. He's also a cool guy in general.
Tough grader but gives great feedback. Always willing to help.
get ready to read ALOT! his class overall wasn't so bad but he is a tough grader. the 3 exams throughout the semester are very fair, just read what he tells you for homework and you will be fine. DO NOT BE LATE or he will put you on the spot. he's a really nice guy and cool professor.
Great guy, very friendly with his students and very interested in making sure you understand every work you read for class. Most of the books/short stories he chose I wasn't crazy over, but he made them enjoyable nonetheless. Tough grader, definitely makes you work for your grades but overall a really good teacher. :)
He's an okay Professor, but he can be pretty rude sometimes. Expect a lot of reading and quizzes. Hes a tough grader and the essays he assigns only makes it worse. Overall, I don't recommend him if you aren't a strong essay writer.
HOLY SNAP! If you don't like to write essays almost every week then don't take him Homeworks are reading assignments that you have to read because he quizzes you on them. No midterm, but final is a 10 page research paper. Don't get me wrong he is an amazing teacher that knows his stuff, but he is also a hard grader. If you want a challenge take him
Great professor. Professor Bourdeau makes learning fun. Make sure to read every essay by its due date. This is assigned on the syllabus given on the first day of class. There WILL be quizzes on them! He always starts off class with a question of the day to get to know you better. Make sure you know old song references too for bonus points!
Taking Introduction to Literature with him now! Attendance matters, and you definitely have to be prepared to read often for assignments, as well as write analytical essays on a monthly basis. He's very animated and makes the hour and fifteen minutes you're with him fun. He also helps you out with essays as much as he can before they're due!
i think as a person he was so cool and funny. BUT his class was very very hard for me. i managed to get a C, which is low for me. there was many papers and the final paper was ten pages which SUUCCKKKEDDD. he did teach me a lot tho
Great professor. Knows what hes talking about and very helpful with essays if you ASK. Only 3 papers and there are quizzes based on what you must read... theyre easy if you read ! Textbook is a necessity. However, sometimes he can be a little be of a sarcastic a- hole and you cant tell if hes insulting you or if thats just the way he is.
funny guy but omg papers on papers on papers on quizzzz x1000000 kill me
This professor is a great person, but the issue is the poetry class I recently took. I thought it would be a fun way to learn how to interpret and write poetry. Instead, it was poetry in old and middle english. Very hard and he made it seem easy when it really was not. I wish i knew what this class was truly about before I took it...
I really enjoyed taking him, he's a funny dude. He likes to communicate with all of his students and loves when students participate. He is however a very tough grader. He knows who the good students are and who the bad students are. You need to put the effort in to receive a high grade, but your effort won't go unnoticed.
He's an not a nice man, who tells you if you have a problem to go see him or email him, but when you seem/email him he doesn't help and just says oh your missing this. He makes comments about every little thing you do in class do not take him if you want a "A".
The only reason why I would take professor Bourdeau again is because I now know what to expect. You MUST do the reading or you will not pass. You MUST hand in every single paper and assignment, late papers will not be accepted. You will read a short story every night and complete a quiz everyday when you come in. **Takes attendance** Good luck!
Professor Bourdeau is definitely entertaining. He tells a lot of stories and does make the class interesting. However, he assigns a lot of reading and essays that are difficult to write. Additionally, he pushes his political views on the class which can be become uncomfortable.
Overall I didn't mind the class, but the work sucked. His lectures were interesting and helped you understand the text, but the essays kept coming, they were difficult to write and he is a tough grader. If you're looking for a challenge in your semester I would recommend but if you just trying to get a credit, I would find someone else.
He is a good professor, knows what he is doing but be ready to do essays . If you miss one . Only ONE you fail the entire course. Never again taking him again
So this professor is a total a hole and i would NOT take him. There are plenty of others to take. His workload is ridiculous. You have a reading to do every class and if you dont do it you will for sure fail the quiz he gives you because they are in such FINE detail. He grades so harshly Many have gotten f's even if they did the paper assigned
Getting through the gauntlet of fire that was his Honors English 101 was perhaps the hardest thing I've ever done. This class taught me how to write at a college level. He is very tough; your spelling and grammar must be perfect in papers and you need to know inane details from the reading. If you pass this you know you write anything.
A great guy and a great professor. He helps alot if you ask him and he really knows what he's doing. He assigned 5 essays, 2 which were done as a group.
Professor Bourdeau really cares for his students and will make time to work with you if you need it. I would recommend sending him your essays before handing them in and he will show you what needs imrovement. Everytime ive done this ive gotten an A. He will help you improve your writing. 5 essays, quiz daily Not an easy A but i enjoyed the class.
Professor Bourdeau is a good professor and keeps the class entertaining but when it comes to the work he gives way too much, if you miss one paper you fail the course. He does offer all his time to help students who need help with their work (Don't go on your phone during class or he will mark you absent for the day.
Great professor, but very demanding. Your papers need to be perfect if you want an A, but at the same time he is almost always available to help with class work, he even helped me on a non class related paper. Overall an amazing teacher who can really help teach those that want to learn.
Great professor but the amount of work he makes you do is SO MUCH! You have to read every night and prepare questions, if you don't read he throws you out of his class. longest reading 10 pg AND every class you take a quiz on the reading and every three readings there's an essay you have to write 4-6 pages. If you don't hand the essay in, you fail.
Hes personable, I think you could say. If you miss an essay he FAILS you out of the course, which of course can be taken up with the board and youll be back in. Tons of reading, quizzes, and essays. Hard grader, claims hell edit your papers and never gets back to you or pretends he didnt see your email he responded to. EXTREMELY hard to reach
Personally I like him and he cares for his students to pass his class but if your not an English major and taking 101 or 102 for the credits. Dont take him he is very tough and if you dont hand in your paper at the time he wants you to, you FAIL THE WHOLE CLASS. Dont risk it unless your into English and writings papers
His class is very difficult due to the amount of reading he gives, which is literally every night. He also gives a quiz on EVERY reading and asks VERY specific questions that make passing hard. He's also a harsh grader and very opinionated. Overall, you'll fail if you don't put effort or attend and he accepts NO excuses. If you're sick, good luck.
Nice guy but a very though grader. You must read before every class for homework and there are short quizzes every class so you need to have a good memory of every little detail you have read
He is not that bad as some people say. He writes a lot of marks on essays and notes that an essay is more than a grade. I recommend going to office hours or e-mailing him. As to reading, he expects you to have read the essay by the date on the syllabus and to have questions. We have a Q&A before the quiz, then take it, go over it, and copy notes.
Overall nice guy and great prof. Not really a textbook, more like a book filled with short stories you have to read every night. He has quizzes on the the next lecture about SPECIFIC DETAILS in the text so watch out. Fair grader, and friendly when helping you out. Definitely attend lecture, or you'll miss a quiz.
Its as if this mans whole life is focused on making his students miserable. He grades extremely rough, and unfair. He gave me a D for a paper mainly based on our different interpretations. I saw him make a kid drop the course because they didnt have their paper the exact day it was due. He is apathetic during class time, and will single you out.
My god was this teacher stressful, you get no excuses when it comes to missing homework as it should be, but he takes it to a whole new level. He gives 4 papers and a portfolio including homework. IF YOU SOMEHOW MISS ANY PAPER HE WILL NOT HAVE YOU MAKE IT UP. HE WILL TELL YOU TO WITHDRAWAL BECAUSE MISSING 1 IS AN AUTOMATIC F FOR THE COURSE!!!
gives great feedback but TERRIBLE GRADER. This was my lowest grade and class I tired hardest in. How you are ready to write 4 7 page papers plus :)!
Easily the worst professor. Only lets you know your grades on the papers assigned, yet assigns loads of other work multiple days of the week. His grading doesn't make any sense, he's too harsh and irritating. If I could give zero stars I would. Absolutely horrible
Professor Bourdeau is a pretty good professor. Yes he does give lots of work and is definitely a tough grader, but he does give very helpful feedback. Sometimes I feel that he makes assignments tougher than they have to be, but if you email him he will respond quickly and helpfully.
If you can avoid class with this Professor please do by all means . He assigns tons of work and papers. He is passive aggressive and if you have a different opinion other than one that agrees with his he will invalidate it and fail you for the assignment. If you miss even a single assignment/ late he will fail you no acception. Not a good person.
Professor Bourdeau is the Professor I struggle with the most this semester. He has a tendency to be very rude and inconsiderate. Bourdeau will give you a quiz after every essay you read in the textbook and these quizzes will be made up of questions about tiny details making it extremely hard to pass them. I recommend choosing a different professor.
This class is by far the worst class Ive taken. The professor gives way too many assignments 4 papers, portfolio, and a quiz basically every class. Does not let you make up anything no matter what happened
He is my favorite professor I have ever had. Class is reading heavy and copying his notes, 4 papers, and a "quiz" every day (it's just 10-20 questions about the reading you did for that class, you'll be fine if you just read). A big personality and loves to share his life stories. Taking another class of his next semester! Sticks to the syllabus.
This professor is by far the worst ever. He doesnt respect when people have disabilities like me with extended time. Assigns a reading to be read and quizzes every class. He give the papers two weeks before it is due but doesnt finish the reading for the papers till the class before it is due. And if you miss one paper at all he will fail you.
I don't think I have ever had a more draining class in my entire grade school or college career. A new poem/short story and a new quiz every single meeting. Multiple works, tests, and projects all cross over with one another. Consistently deturs from lessons. Gives very passive-aggressive feedback. Gives the workload of two classes with no sympathy
really nice guy, understands shy people and their boundaries. he expects you to be on time to class and for you to be ready. funny guy as well but serious at the same time. I recommend him to anyone
My absolute favorite professor from my 4 semesters at Suffolk. Professor Bordeau does assign lots of work and papers, but if you do the readings it's fine. For every one of my essays I sent him drafts and he emailed me back in less than a day with a whole detailed list on how to enhance the paper. He really wants to see everyone succeed Amazing!!!
I took Advanced Expository Writing with Professor Bourdeau, and he is such an amazing instructor. He is so funny and tells a lot of stories of his life. There is group work with a group that is randomly selected, but it's still pretty fun. There are a lot of lectures, but they're very engaging and interesting.
awful.
funny teacher but overall tough grader and you need to be ready to take not so nice comments on essays
Professor Bourdeau was a pleasant surprise. He will nitpick your essay to his own standards, however, with two b+ and one a- i was able to finish with an A (not including final project and group presentation). I found his lectures very engaging and helpful for when it was time to write the essays. Overall, he is a great professor and funny
I will just say I really loved him as a professor- he's humorous, understanding, and engaging. However, he is not a teacher for everyone; before taking his class, ask yourself- if you're in here just to take the credit or planning on using the info. You really have to like English to enjoy his class. Tough quizzes and hard grader. Not an easy A
He was a really good professor. His class had a lot of work. 3 essays and a quiz daily on the reading, but if you did the readings (which weren't long) you would be fine. He gave 2 weeks to write essays and you can always send him drafts and he will fix them for you. He responded fast and was a fun teacher.
This has to be one of my favorite classes. Professor Bourdeau was honestly a pleasure. I loved his readings as they were very simple to understand and the quizzes (which are everyday) are very easy as long as you read the material. In short, quizzes everyday, 2 tests, 2 essays and be sure to email him beforehand if you want excellent feedback.
Professor Bordeau assigns a lot of work, but if you stay on top of the readings and use tools like unstuck AI for study prep, you can succeed. He's helpful with feedback and wants students to do well, though his grading can be strict. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
I thoroughly enjoy this class. He made every lecture interesting and I look forward to coming to class everyday. Participation does matter but he makes you want to get involved in the conversation.
Amazing guy, for every reading you do, you will get a quiz, remember dates and specific quotes for his class, essays aren't hard at all, MLA format is crucial, very strict on being on time to class, he was very clear with what he wanted from us. Overall, he was a great a teacher who has a passion for reading and english
He is truly an amazing professor, however, there are quizzes on every reading, 4 papers, and a 7 page (minimum) final paper. His class is hard and you need to pay attention and actually read the readings, but I really enjoyed going to his class. The essays are not difficult if you take your time on them. (textbook is in the library for you to scan)
At the start of the course you are assigned a reading each class, and given a quiz the following class. There are 4 papers and the portfolio. He definitely comes on strong at first but is very focused of getting his students to make the most of their time in class.
Great. Simply read the books and acknowledge the information, pay close attention to his debriefings during the pre quiz, he gives many answers.
Very straightforward class, just read and take short quizzes based on the readings. The readings were relatively short and easy to understand and he discusses the material before giving the quizzes. He was extremely helpful when it came to writing papers. He will gladly look over your drafts and give helpful feedback. Fast replier, too!
Super interesting, loved the class format. You have to read what is assigned. Quizzes are straightforward I had a little difficulty with the papers.
Very knowledgeable and helpful teacher tells you exactly what's expected of you he's also quite funny sometimes. Where I start to dislike is the fact that he bases his class on his political views and and the end he give a statement with a “Fact” criticizing the other side the problem is his facts aren't always true I fact check with my computer.
He is a good person who really cares about you and understands your outside life, you're allowed 3 absences after that you fail. He assigns a reading every class and gives you a quiz on them the following class. Very easy however the topics are a little questionable. Always uses all 1:15 to teach
This professor aims to work with you to understand works or readings on a different level. He makes class interactive. Assignments are very straight forward. Communication is great. Take advantage of office hours, because he will try his best to help you succeed.
He's funny and a caring guy but he expects so much from students. You have a reading and test every class and you have to write what he writes on the board. He has given us 2 papers already but I'm expecting more. The papers are very confusing and he doesn't believe in number grades. He also will not put your grade into the Pulse app, so Idk my grade
The worst professor I have ever had.
Really good professor, however extremely tough grader. Quizzes almost every class, which helps boost your grade if you actually know the material. I believe your final grade consists of 4 major papers, quizzes and attendance/partic. He's so nice, funny and accessible, but be aware that he does expect a lot from students and is a pretty tough grader
I love this professor so much. His class was honestly a way for me to truly be at peace and genuinely think. Can he be tough grader, yes. It's your job as a student to send him your draft and he WILL HELP you. Unless you're late to his class and just don't try - then you will do just fine. He's the best professor I have had at SCCC.
Had him for an 8 am class, and enjoyed it although it was early. As long as you read what he tells you to, you should get a good grade. He is very well versed in the topics he brings up throughout the semester. He also has a good sense of humor. Take advantage of his office hours for papers, he will help you as long as you ask.
He looks and acts mean in the beginning but trust me he is the best and he is actually a very nice/kind professor. If you read and do your work you will be fine.
Hi he is annoying he gives pop up quizzes and you have to memorize everyyyyy article. He is very weird somewhat nice. He says controversial things then tells you to never record and if we have problems about what he says to go to him no one else again to hell with them quizzes
one time he gave me + 40 on a quiz for knowing a tribe called quest song, fire
Too many quizzes
