his tests are extremely hard. class is graded: 60% tests (3), 20% term paper, 20% online lab. he's a new teacher, and 60% of class relying on difficult and long exams, not worth taking.
Very un-clear professor in Economic department. Exam is extreme hard and he grade hard, too!! Because he is new professor, he is trying to copy Professor Hummel's style, but he didn't know what he is doing... Take other class if you can, stay away this evil professor!!
He is a big liar. He confuses everyone in his class, sometimes even including himself. Why not just go back to England and continue your BS?
If you are looking for a professor does not go off on unecessary tangents, follows a clear format, grades on relevant material and returns graded material promptly professor Brady is not for you.

He is very unclear and very loud you cannot go to sleep in his class b/c he talks too loud... his lectures are not worth attending b/c they do not even help u for the online lab or anything else for that matter.
everything str8 from lectures...dont really need to read the book...just read summaries at the end of chapters. all his examples lead to engalnd this and england that...but knows his stuff...Hard midterms and final...but curves fairly.
seems like his teaching methods have changed. He is funny
Extremely knowledgeable. I learned a ton, although a bit harder than most profs at SJSU.
This is a great instructor. He is always very enthusiastic about the material and he is hilarious at times. Yes the tests are somewhat difficult. But this instructor is always willing to help you. If are going to at least read the book, take the quizzes, and attend class then this is the professor for you.
A great class. Mark is a charming soul, energetic to the last drop, endearing, funny, and a wonderful instructor. Clear, fair, and fun. I would recommend his Deanza College Microeconomics class to anyone.
Awesome professor for Winter Session. Can tell he know the material very well. His lecture does get boring sometimes. Do keep up on the reading. He gives an outline of the chapter you've just read.
I haven't even finished this class and I felt compelled to warn everyone - don't take this professor! His lectures ramble and it's impossible to know what information to pay attention to. His tests are ridiculously hard. He spends most of his time talking about the UK (where he is from). Maybe he should go back there! You MUST read the book!
Excellent class. I was moderately interested in the subject prior to taking this class, now I may take more. Very helpful. Willing to go out of his way to help students.
Brady's lectures are practically useless. he talks about many things that are tangental to the reading. his tests do not address the major themes of the chapters. he picks a sentence out of the book and asks a question about a specific sentence. misses the majore themes.this subject is very interesting. the book that is used is very interesting.
Seems good-hearted but professoring is not his thing as much as it's not a word. Class was one big tangent; you don't know how to take notes. Tests composed of difficult, random questions from the readings. Has said that certain details like dates would not be on tests when they were. Plus I don't think he's educated enough to teach upper division.
BOOOOOOOOO! Theres a reason for these bad comments. Hooray for rate my prof!
I was skeptical about this class at first due to his background. But once you progress through his course, you'll learn the basic strategies for passing his course. EXTREMELY lenient with his grading process. Meaning, I DON'T know how I got a B+ after barely attending class and C average on major exams. He curves every midterm. Take him!
Prof. Brady works extremely hard on making his class time productive. He gives quizes every week so that people who are willing to work hard, get an opportunity to get decent grades. He has some interesting insites about Economics and history.I think you need to be a well read in order to do well on his exams, but he gives you plenty of chances to do
Make sure you go to class everyday cause there are endless quizzes and the midterms aren't a cakewalk either
Brady does less teaching and more talking. When he talks it's almost always on some kind of tangent that has little or nothing to do with his class. He almost never writes anything on the board besides graphs. When he does writes something on the board, it's illegible. Don't take him.
very enthusiastic but needs to get better structure in his lesson plan. Some of the exam questions are downright weird. Seems to be an easy grader and wants his students to do well. Might be better suited to teaching economic history type classes rather than macroeconomic concepts unless he commits to a more structured lecture format.
great professor with lots of experience. take his classes if you can.
Overall a very knowledgeable professor. He has a lecture style that is prone to tangents, albeit interesting tangents, so you have to be vigilant to not miss anything. You really need to read the book and attend every class in order to do well on the quizzes and tests. You really need to work hard in Prof. Brady's class. A very fair curve, though.
I was only taking this class because I was really far down on the registration tier and needed GE units, but it really sparked my interest in economics. Brady is a very knowledgeable professor, and I enjoyed his lectures. He's a fair grader as long as you attend all classes, because there's a quiz at the start of almost every lecture.
Professor Brady is top-notch. He knows his discipline, is very well read and also at times class is pretty fun. A lot of reading, but very intellectually stimulating. Exams and quizzes aren't cake walks, but he's one of those guys you can tell wants you to do well, showing in his grading structure and EXTREME attention to creating course material.
I had Professor Brady for Econ 1B. He's a fantastic teacher! He is extremely fair, he frequently teaches from the quizzes, will give you all the quiz answer papers at the end of the semester to study from, he always emails reminders about quizzes, and is fun to listen to in lecture. The tangents are interesting. A pretty decent 9am class for me.
This guy is a boss and is pretty funny! He makes class as fun as Econ is ever going to be and his grading system is AWESOME. Grade is based on 25 quizzes (he drops the 10 worst!) which he will often give you answers to, 2 midterms, a final, a term paper, and desire2learn homework. Pretty EASY A and hes a great guy!!!
Very helpful on daily quizzes. A lot of assignments, so if one does bad on an exam, the other assignments help raise your grade. Wanders during lecture often. Uses every last minute of class, never let's us go early. Overall, great and helpful professor.
Brady is a very good professor. Though he often lets his lectures wander off-topic, he is well read on many subjects of economics and you will still learn a lot in his class. He knows a ton about economic history so you regularly will get to hear how contemporary developing countries compare to the West, which is very interesting.
Brady is prone to tangents during lectures. He has difficult exams. Nice person, but bad professor.
He is a great, kind and very helpful professor. He works hard to make sure his students succeed. This is not an easy "A" class but with daily quizzes, attendance points and extra credit assignment, I think most people would do well in his class. He is very passionate about this subject and I enjoyed his lectures. I highly recommend him.
I love Brady! He made Econ interesting and would go off into tangents about the bio or history of economists. He tends to go through topics quickly but almost everything on a quiz, he discusses in his lectures.
I took Brady's econ class in the fall. He has a very strong an passionate understanding of economics. He recognizes anyone who actually puts in time to read and do the work. If you aren't stupid, like half the rest of the students and actually crack the book open once in a while its an easy A.
Prof.Brady is one of the best professors. I had a BS degree in Oceanography and Geology, taking Micro-Econ class for the knowledge.Prof Brady has lots of passion for the subject and teaching. He is so knowledge able. I have learned so much. A rare and valuable professor Though he does tangent out but if you pay attention, everything is connected.
He is very eager in helping his students and wants to see you succeed. He loves teaching and has a British accent and makes constant jokes during class as Econ can be extremely boring. Very good teacher. Gives quizzes every class to help your grade.
Professor Brady is prone to tangents that have little to do with his lectures, but they are certainly entertaining. Also, he grades on a curve and his tests are largely based on the quizzes that he gives daily. However, he only takes the best 15 so you don't have to be present for each one. Easy class, funny professor, I'd take it again.
I love Mr. Brady. He has such a large knowledge base and passion for economics. Although, it is true that he gets off topic and goes on tangents. His class was difficult in that he covered so much information, but easy in that he curves the class and throws out so many of your quiz scores.
He is a really nice guy, yes talks a lot, but always teaches what he need to. Quiz in every class but only takes best 15. And many times helps you out with what will be on the quiz before you take it. Tests are a lot more complicated than the quizzes but if u study u will be fine. He is open to help you out! take both 1a and 1b w/him very similar
Mark is a great teacher! Although he may go off into tangents, he tries to make the class successful! You have about 35 quizzes and he takes the best 15. The exams are a bit hard but they're based on the quizzes, so study the quizzes! He grades on a curve, which is always helpful. A few extra credit points which is also helpful!
Brady was clear on his grading system and cares about his students. He's an easy grader and doesn't make it impossible to pass his class. Best Econ teacher at state.
Quiz every class but only counts the best 15. It's actually a very good teaching method because it forces you to really pay attention to the material, plus he practically gives you the answers before handing out the quiz. Very fair grader, understanding, and very helpful. I learned a lot from his class. I recommend you take him!
Professor Brady is very knowledgeable. His lecture is long, and he goes over the knowledge point very fast. He is very nice and willing to help people. He have a lot quiz this semester but he will drop the lowest 5!!!Take him. Be prepare to read the book, and you will be fine.
Professor Brady goes off on tangents often, which makes his lectures confusing. He goes over the answers for the quiz before giving it out, so that's great. He also grades on a curve, gives extra credit, and picks 15 of the best quiz scores out of 35. Exams are hard, quizzes are easy. Would recommend him!
Mark Brady does tend to ramble and go on tangents, but I guess that makes the lectures a bit entertaining. There are 35 quizzes but only the best 15 quizzes are counted towards the grade. There are two midterms and one final. The quizzes are easy (he gives the answers out in the lecture prior to the quiz!), but the tests are a little difficult.
Will go off topic quite a bit at every lecture, but for the most part, Brady does a fine job explaining the concepts. Overall, you have roughly 34+ quizzes (top 15 scores count), 2 midterms of around 50 questions, one term paper, and a non-cumulative final exam. Grades are curved and he does offer extra credit. A 90 percent is an A grade.
easy class and force you to work for it, easy quizzes everyday also and very helpful when you need him
Good professor that you will learn a lot from, but doesn't know how to post grades on time.
Prof Brady is loose on participation but he does give quizzes in every class. There are 30+ quizzes in total and allowing you to drop 15 quizzes. His tests come from questions on quizzes so studying quizzes is the best way to pass the exam as well as class. He does offer extra credits.
I like this guy and I will tell you why. There is no hidden secrets to getting an A. He tells you what he expects and by a week you'll get the hang of it. Quizzes every class but he gives you the answers during his lecture. And the tests are just the quizzes. He genuinely cares about his students and is super nice. TAKE HIM!
Goes off top a lot, had to rely on book to understand material, would not recommend.
He was a very, very boring professor but it was very easy to get an A. There's an online component which isn't too bad (he gives you 100% if you average a B in the online course)
Professor Brady is something. His lectures are usually very engaging. Expect daily quizzes. The finals are very much alike the daily quizzes you will take. You will need your textbook, but he does teach content beyond the book most of the time.
Professor Brady is a great Econ professor. He does go on tangents very often, but they usually correlate to the lesson at hand. You will use the textbook very often and the Sapling homework is based upon what he teaches in class. Exams are curved, 15 of the best 32 quizzes are entered into the gradebook to determine overall grade. Take him!
So there is a quiz every class, but since he goes on so many tangents, you may have to take more than 1 quiz sometimes because of the delay. His daily quizes and midterms are lecture and textbook heavy, so be prepared to study from both!
Basically, there's a quiz after EACH lecture. He literally gives the answers to every question on the quiz during that lecture which can be good and bad since it means you have to listen to his every word! But he only takes the best 15 out of 30 so its easy to get 100% in that category. YOU MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK TO PASS HIS EXAMS.
Mr. Brady has a tendency to go off on tangents when he lectures. one minute he'll be on task, then the next were talking about Tarzan. I recommend reading the textbook to prepare for his daily quizzes. the quizzes are actually pretty easy and they helped my grade a lot. Brady just gets distracted a lot during his lectures but he really cares
He's very friendly and easy to talk to. While he goes on tangents, his quizzes and exams are very easy.
He goes off topic a lot, but you should try to listen in because he will basically give you the answers to the quizzes. Quizzes are easy because it's mostly based on the book and lecture; I mostly remember defining terms. I took Econ 1A with him and he doesn't let you out of class early, sometimes even lets you out a little late. He's nice though.
Professor Brady is a nice person and is very passionate about economics. His lectures are very lengthy, but he tries to incorporate real live situations in his lessons. Quizzes everyday, maybe even two, and the midterms are basically all of the quizzes added together. If you study off the daily quizzes before each midterm, you should do fine.
He doesn't really explain what he is talking about so unless you read the book before hand you are going to be confused in class. He goes off on random history lessons. Lectures you pretty much need to go to even though they are no help because he gives quizzes daily. He makes Econ just more difficult than it should be.
Nice Professor but class is not easy. He quizzes every class right after his lecture. He says the quizzes are directly on the lecture. The thing is he briefly discusses stuff on the quiz. Like he will mention a sentence or two about topics in the quiz. He also talks fast. The quizzes are MC but have like 6 choices and "one or more answers apply".
You won't fail his class. He does not fail anyone, everyone passes no matter what. He lectures and gets lost a lot. He goes over the quizzes before and you have 5 minutes to take them. He's easy. One term paper, two midterms and a final. His midterms are very hard.
He is a solid teacher! He goes over every quiz before you take them. You take over 30 quizzes and only 15 of your best ones count. However, tests are tough and you need to study. One term paper that is 1600-2000 words, which isn't that bad and is graded generously. I would take him again
I finished with an A- buy the book and follow along. 2 midterms, cumulative final (really last few chapter heavy but for sure study previous midterms and quizzes), one research paper (have to ask for feedback back) 30+ quizzes, takes the best 15. Extra credit opportunities. Midterms exactly like quizzes and previous midterm. Boring lectures
I took Brady's econ course in the winter session so I was expecting it to be really hard & boring but he made one of my least favorite subjects surprisingly interesting. Gives a lot of quizzes every day but he goes over the answers right before so pay careful attention. 2 midterms and a final. 2nd midterm was hard! One paper, easy grader. Great! :)
1 term paper. 2 midterms. lots of quizzes. Teaches orally and through worksheets. Respectable teacher and would gladly give extensions if ask and show that you are working on your term paper. Goes off tangent a lot but I would take him again. All his classes are structured the same.
2 midterms, cumulative final, one research paper (30+ quizzes, takes the best 15. Extra credit opportunities. Midterms exactly like quizzes and previous midterm. Super long lectures. One major con is you never know your grade. Gives extensions and is really nice and passionate.
Had the opportunity to take Brady for four classes. Probably one of the easier professors in the department. You get 2 midterms 15% each which are all based on the quizzes. A total of 30 quizzes and he takes best 15 for 30%. (Some take-homes). One term paper 25% of grade but you get 5% just for doing a proposal and a final worth 15%.
I took him for almost all my econ classes. Curves his test so much that a 55% in his class is a C+. You take 30 quizzes and he only counts 15 of them. ALWAYS , i mean ALWAYS gives extensions on papers. Im talking 2-3 week extensions. Best professor ever. I freaking love this guy man.
Professor Brady. Man oh man! As a professor, he was ok. As a person, he was great. Gives extensions on the term paper if you ask. 2 midterms (quite difficult b/c of his wording) & 30+ quizzes (a few take-home) but takes the best 15. Show up to class & READ the chapters/handouts! One con? You don't know your grade till the end of the semester :/
Just went to his office hours for the first time before my final tomorrow. He kindly gave me a quiz that I was missing. Also answered and explained every question on the quizzes I had trouble with. Just go to every class he explains everything on the quiz before you take it. Study the quizzes and textbook for exams and finals. Would take again
It was hard for me to understand what he was talking about due to his accent & bc he would go off topic a lot. There are 2 midterms, 1 final, 30 quizzes. He takes your highest 15 quizzes for your final grade. Theres 1 or 2 quizzes every class so make sure to show up. He gives out quiz and test answers + explanations as a study guide for the final.
I took Professor Brady for Economics 1B. I would not say I learned very much, and his lectures are quite confusing. His lectures have more of a rambling sense, and he does not use powerpoint for notes. He is super British, so be prepared for that. His class is relatively easy, there is a quiz nearly every class, 3 tests, and a term paper.
heavy, dry and boring and off topic lecture. Hard to understand him sometimes. lots of quizes, exams and reading. yeah i agree over all he is a 3/5
Professor Brady makes microecon fun and interesting. He is a great professor and should be a first choice for any econ student
He is pretty passionate about economics. He has weekly quizzes so make sure to pay attention in class and if possible do the readings. Exams are very similar to quiz questions and at many times he copies questions from the quizzes for the exams. One book review paper. Pretty easy grade wise as he has a different scale for it.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! when class moved online It became a nightmare, the professors took 1 month to set up a canvas(never had one prior) where he would randomly post quizzes, he never posted a single lecture and assigned two term papers that have not been graded leaving students clueless about their grade going into the final. AWFUL
Took his 5 week summer class and we had 23 quizzes, about 4/5 a week (he kept the best 10 or 15), two midterms, and a final. The class isn't difficult as long as you read the book and pay attention to his lectures. He cares about his students and tries to help everyone learn the material. No math required. Recommend him for ECON 102.
Professor Brady is unlike most other Econ professors in his methods, but his teaching is quite effective and engaging. His lectures are only verbal, there are not really slideshows or writing on the whiteboard. His lectures are dense, but he makes it a point to teach you a lot and make sure thingd stick with you. He is always available and greay
A very passionate professor, but his lectures can get very content heavy.
Professor Brady is a super nice guy. He lectures based exclusively on the chapters in the textbook which is great. However, my issue is the quizzes you take daily are worded very differently than he lectures and it gets very confusing. Exams are just recycled quizzes with words swapped. I hope he can get the retirement he dreams of soon!
I like his lectures for the most part. Things move quickly and it's a bit tough but not too bad
lectures are all auditory, no visuals/slides, kind of boring. Weekly quizzes, about 26 total, but he drops the lowest 5 scores. The 2 midterms and final are a little tricky because everything is worded differently than the quizzes. Study for those and you'll be fine. There's also a writing assignment, but it's not too difficult.
Mostly a self-study class. His lectures have little to no representation, all auditory. He has 2 MC midterms, a writing assignment, and 1 MC final (recycles midterm questions). He also hands out daily quizzes (32 total, takes the best 20). A really slow grader, doesn't even let us know when our final grades get posted...
Professor Brady is a very charismatic man. Going to his lectures is always a pleasant surprise because you never know what's in store. He is the main character. In all honesty, I feel like reading the textbook is more clear than the lectures he gives. Otherwise, he slays.
He's very British. The material got a little hard to understand at times but nothing that couldn't be handled, and his personality made lectures interesting. A lot of quizzes but they're all open note and he drops the lowest.
Oh boy, Mark Brady is kind of all over the place. There's no real structure to the class and I don't usually know what topics we are discussing. Things get delayed or missed. Just kind of haphazard. His lectures are just an extension of that. BUT anything discussed in class is fair game for the exams!
Brady's class has been a bit of a mess. He is very knowledge and loves to engage with students but more often goes on 45 minute tangents. Never returns graded quizzes back. Still in the dark about grades 12 weeks in. Confusing lectures with seemingly no real purpose/final point. Heavy graded on tests/quizzes. You can make it by without the book
he seems to be a great professor - his lectures are on point and not too bad for a morning class. he is not too familiar with canvas, which is unfortunate, so he uploads materials in bulk right before exams, which was a problem before the final. there are still no grades in canvas right now, and I have no idea what it could be. daily quizzes.
Prof. Brady was fine. He did get boring often, but it wasn't too bad. Material is almost always taken straight out of the textbook with the exception of a few topics, sometimes he would forget to post handouts on Canvas. Lots of quizzes, but he drops the lowest five. Tests are not easy, but not super hard. If you study the material you'll be okay.
His Lectures are him just talking for an Hour and 15 minutes. All his assignments involve quizzes and exams. He doesn't update grades so I had no clue what my grade was until the end of the semester. He doesn't update scores and or study guides in time before the exams and his class is a mess on Canvas.
Professor Brady.... I'm not sure how a class can be so entertaining but still be such a snooze fest at the same time, but Prof Brady manages to do that. Yes, he is British and he says some funny (strange) things, but he often goes on long tangents not related to the topic. Quizzes and tests are ok, not too hard if you read the book.
Speaks his lectures. No powerpoints provided.
Professor Brady is a really tough class for people that are not ready to self study. His lectures are difficult to understand due to his heavy accent, he doesn't provide any slideshows, and study guides don't relate to the exams which are worth large portions of your grade. If you're really good at listening, you COULD thrive in his class.
He does not post the grades until the end of the semester and when you ask him about it he's very nonchalant about it. His lectures are often off-topic rants, but he incorporates a great sense of humor into them. Your only hope in passing the exams in this class is to read the textbook and do a lot of extra-curricular learning.
He's a nice guy but he literally just yaps. Like theres no slides or handouts he just talks... And he gets super off topic too so it's impossible to learn or pay attention. 90% of the class just stopped coming to class because they realized there's no use in coming. And he never grades anything ever. LIKE EVER. I like his British accent though lmao
Provides no materials to help pass his quizzes or tests. You are given a difficult to read textbook, no slides, nothing taught in the classroom is helpful on the tests, and quizzes do not relate to the tests. He also never put in grades, so you are uncertain where you stand in the class the entire semester. Do not take.
He talks a lot but does not provide any useful information to help you with his quizzes. He also doesn't have any slideshows or write anything down, so be ready to hear a bunch of useless words coming out of his mouth. You mainly have to read the textbook if you actually want to learn. Don't take this professor even if he is your last choice.
This class is very disorganized and information taught in class was confusing and all over the place. Prof Brady was nice, but doesnt know how to teach in a informative, way that students grasp onto content. I did not purchase the textbook, most info was taught through the weekly HW quizzes and total of 3 midterms.
Professor Brady is a super nice guy and is very friendly. But, he has little knowledge on how to use canvas and didn't put any grades in until the last week of the semester. If you are looking for a prof with lectures only during class, then take this class. Every class was straight lectures, no slides, just him talking about Economics & his life.
The professor would stray off topic from time to time. He did not explain certain economic topics to its full extent. Sometimes he would go on to discuss brothels in London instead of Microeconomics. Though he is a very nice professor.
