I've complained about the liberal bias in academia. While he's pretty liberal, he does encourage students to speak no matter how much he disagrees with them.

mr B is very helpful and is willing to help ya out. just do your work, and you can be on good terms with him also.

One of the best english instuctors I have ever had. A university professor at a JC. REALLY read and grades papers toughly, but makes you a better writer. Class discussions are interesting & very opinionated.

He is a great teacher. He really mixes things up during class to ake it go by faster. He is a lot of help when it comes to working with you on an essay.

Mr. B. is the most engaging teacher at Ohlone. If you just want to get through english and don't really care about how you learn do not take Brosamer. He is a challenging teacher who will make you write better. His class is entertaining and he has high expectations. He's a great teacher.

I can see why some of the people who rated him did poorly in his class by their writing.. Come on now it's college. He's a AWESOME teacher. He wants his students to learn and succeed. If you get a bad grade in his class, it's because you deserve it. Participate and get help when needed! HE'S HOT 2!

I loved this teacher. He's a tough grader but my writing has improved SOO much. He's very helpful when you ask for it on essays, but you REALLY have to apply yourself. Don't take Mr. B if you're just looking to pass the class. I highly recommend him to good writers looking for a challenge. Classes are always fun and he's a cool person to talk to.

Wonderful teacher! I didn't pass his class... but only because I didn't assert myself well enough. He's an easy grader if you really try and is willing to help whenever you need it I loved his class and teaching techniques very funny guy. It was a pleasure being in his class.

Brosmer i a great teacher. His syllabus is clearly written up for the semester and gives a really good feeling of stability. Write your essays and make sure you don't wait until the night before! Very helpful and very fair.

Mr. Brosomer has stringent writing standards, but this is not to say that he is a bad teacher or unfair. In fact, my writing has grown a lot during this course and a large part is due to Mr. Brosomer's insightful comments and high standards. I highly recommend Mr. Brosomer. He is nice, funny and always willing to help you become a better writer. :-

Brosamer is a helpful, fair teacher who I would highly suggest to a friend. All he demands is a college-level writing ability with a strong foundation from classes like 101A. If you want to hone you writing ability and learn to see things in a new light take Brosamer. Those complaining probably never learned proper MLA or how to proofread and edit.

He is a pretty simple teacher. Listen in his class and take notes. You discuss all the test material before-hand so taking his exams are easy. He is nice and very helpful.

Brosamer is a challenging instructor, but if you pay attention, forget about grades, and truly apply yourself, his class will help you become a more proficient writer. I took him more than 7 years ago, and still credit him with my writing success through my bachelors and my masters degrees.

I took an elective with him and we had to do quite a bit of work. It wasn't bad, but it was a lot for an elective. But he's a good teacher. Loves his work, very helpful, very knowledgable, and very accessible. I'd recommend him if you want a challenge in college.

This was online mostly, and we met 4 times, you have to write a 3pg paper if you miss any. Kind of boring, makes you comment in depth about short stories, which often are prettttty boring. He's very slow talker, doesn't really prepare for class.

Mr. B is still one of the best professors I've ever had. I also took a Film & Literature class with him the first semester it was offered and it is by far the most interesting and engaging class I've ever had. His classes are challenging, but that's what keeps you interested. He's very easy to talk to and truly seems to enjoy what he teaches.

Mr. B is a very difficult teacher, but that's what's great about him. The whole class is engrossing because it's a challenge. There's a lot of work and the tests are brutal, but you learn a lot. I always anticipated going to class. Helpful guy too, get your papers looked at; it's a big help.

A really fun and chill teacher that creates an interactive and open atmosphere. Definitely take his class!

So he is a really cool and fun teacher, but he is a really tough grader on papers. Always take up his offer of office hours to help you with your papers. Participating class is a good thing as well.

Nice Guy. Always encouraging. Gives very clear explanations. Make sure you try to have as little absences as possible, otherwise it will start to hurt your grade. Utilize his office hours. Don't be afraid to ask him for help. When editing your essay in class, ask him to take a look at it! He will tell you what needs to be fixed!

Grades very hard

Very strict grader when it comes to essays, but also very helpful if you want to improve your writing. Just ask him for advice and he'll give it to you. His 101C class is very fun and easy going as long as you have people who participate in discussion, otherwise be prepared for pop quizzes- which means do the reading that's assigned for each day.

I don't know why people rate him low. He's a very knowledgeable professor. Sure he grades a little strictly on essays, but it IS an English class & overall he's very fair. He's always open and willing to help students with their writing, but you have to take the initiative to ask for his help. Do all the readings & assignments and you'll get an A.

He is a fantastic Professor. He engages the class and relates the texts meaningful ways. He believes in his students and has high expectations because he knows everyone can do good work. I highly reccommend him as a professor. His class is not easy, as no class should be. He challenges his students to do their best.

I think he's a really good professor. The class is interesting but he is honestly a very HARD grader. Mostly grammar. You have to try really hard to get a B or higher (spend more than a day on essays). If you're already good at essays and all that stuff, I'm sure you will have no problem. Always ask for help if you need it, and make sure you read !

Chill teacher, tough grader. Gives quizzes if he thinks the class hasn't been doing the required teacher. Really wants everyone to participate in class discussion. Don't take him if you want an easy A.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Keeps class interactive and thought-provoking. He's a difficult grader, but only because he appreciates good writing and sets the bar high. If you go to office hours & take every opportunity to get his input, not only will you do well in the class but you'll also become a better reader & writer.

He's a cool teacher, enjoys a laugh. If you are having trouble with your writing then take him, he will help you understand what you're doing wrong and how to fix it but don't expect any A's on papers/exams. Tough grader with no transparency on how he grades. It's almost like he reads your paper and just writes down a random number.

Mr. B is one of those teachers who really cares about helping his students learn how to think about literature in meaningful ways and how to express their opinions about it in writing in effective ways. He is kind, understanding, and a really interesting speaker- I always leave his class with a new thought. He expects thoughtful work.

Grading: 3 open book tests (poetry, short story, Shakespeare), 3 essays, pop quizzes, and attendance. Tips: Be clear and write a lot in the essays. He's a very tough grader but doable, and the tests are open book and not that bad. Participate in class and online (hybrid). Read the booksstoriespoemsplays multiple times.

Unforgettable, somewhat subjective, witty educator. Easy on the eyes. Passionate enough of an instructor to wonder what aspirations he had when he was in college. Tough grader, as he should be.

First of all, I understand everyone who gives him bad grades, all recensions here might be true. But for me, he was perfect. I'm not a native speaker and I got threw 101A but my English was still bad. But he was a caring teacher who really helped me improving my essays and at the end of semester I got As on my essays and a B as overall grade.

I enjoyed 101A with Professor Brosamer in the fall so much, I took 101B with him in the the spring and plan on taking Intro To Shakespeare with him this fall. He genuinely cares about his students, and makes every effort to help them succeed. As long as you keep up with the reading and take his criticisms on your writing to heart, you will do fine!

Everyone that rated him bad is an ignorant slacker. College isnt given to you. Follow the class and do the work and you will pass no problem.

I like his style of teaching, very straightforward and to the point. I thought the topics and lectures were rather interesting. He was clear with what was needed in our essays. Attending office hours helped get my essays from 80's to 90's. Be sure to do the reading, as he gives pop quizzes. Aside from that, this class was relatively easy.

Brosamer is one of the best English teachers I've had. He asks people to dig deeper at the words on the page and understand the subtext. To those complaining about his high standards, on the first day of all his classes he hands out a packet that includes example papers and instructions that show exactly what he wants. Pretty straight forward.

Took his class in my first and second semester. His class is a bit lecture heavy, but he grades fairly. If you refer to the sample papers he gives you for assignments, you'll basically get an A. He is a bit strict on late assignments though. I'm assuming most of the people who give him a bad review just don't want to put in the work.

I took Mark Brosamer's English 101C class in Fall semester 2018 at Ohlone College. He's a great guy although he grades kind of tough when it comes to essays but he gives good feedback. I enjoyed going to his office hours. He's a nice person. I got a C on the first two essays and a B on the third one. I got a C on the final which I'm proud of.

Super cool teacher, hes looking laid back and chill about most things. What you need to do is clear from the syllabus and if you do the work the class goes by real easy. Offers good support and feedback for hw and essay. 10/10

As long as you're writing basics are solid it's hard for you not to get an A, tough grader though. He penalizes faulty research which honestly is a good skill to learn. No rocket science, it's a college level course. Please call bs to all the reviews saying he's unhelpful, I had brain surgery and he was plenty accommodating. College isn't an easy A

I've taken 3 of his classes and he's a great teacher. He cares about the students, and overall he's pretty chill. He might give a pop quiz if people obviously aren't doing the reading. The only way won't pass is if you don't show up to class and don't do the work. I love this guy, he has really made my time at Ohlone a joy.

If your struggling with essays go to office hours. If you do the work you should pass. If you're a slacker or want an A with putting in the work, then you should take a different class.

I had him for an online summer class and this was one of the best English classes I ever took. He gives you plenty of options to write about so you actually enjoy the writing. He's a very chill guy and helpful when it comes to writing skills. My writing skills have actually improved from this class. Very fair grader.

Each essay has at least 3 prompts to choose from and almost all of them relate to previous weekly discussions. If you do the reading, participate in the discussion posts, and look at the feedback on your drafts, then you'll do fine. Professor Brosamer comments on all your drafts and posts, as long as they're on time, and its easy to reach him.

Professor Brosamer (or Mr. B) is an effective instructor and passionate about what he does. As you would expect for any English class, you will have to read and analyze texts, write essays, and critique other students' work, but it is not overwhelming. The deadlines are clear, the work is consistent, and his feedback is helpful.

Brosamer is honestly such an amazing professor! Like with any class you get what you put into it. Of course, like any english class you are expected to do the readings and come to class ready to discuss. Regarding the essays we had three essays, based off of the readings and discussions we have in class. Brosamer also gives great tips for essays!

Really solid and genuine professor. He gives the average amount of reading for an English class and expects you to read the poems/stories for group discussions. He's a tough grader when it comes to essays, but he gives the feedback needed in order for you to get an A and gives you a number of prompts to choose from.

He was a good teacher but was somewhat of a tough grader so make sure to do well on essays and take his feedback! The quizzes are soo easy if you read the material! He was kind but the class was kind of slow so beware of that. Overall, you will be fine.

I've taken two classes from Mr. Brosamer and enjoyed both of them! He's very kind and easygoing. The creative project he assigned us for Shakespeare was super fun. Also, check out his office hours; it's extremely helpful.

By far one of the best teachers I've ever had. A very forgiving professor but you'll still need to put in the work for an A. It's clear he really cares about his students and has a love for writing & literature that is infectious. Gave wonderful lectures. He understands students and is usually flexible with deadlines. Professor Bromaser is a gem! What separates him from most professors is that he cares about his students' success inside and outside of the class setting. He's a great lecturer, super-engaging, and vividly describes how developing better writing skills can improve one's career/ personal life!

Prof Brosamer is an amazing English professor! Of course, you have to put in the work to get an A, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't take the class. It's a great experience and he really lets you grow as a writer. He clearly points out places you need to improve on in a way you can understand and improve.

His teaching way is different from what I had been given before, and his class let me develop my critical thinking capacity deeply. Reading the articles from the York Times, discussing with my classmates, and responding to the author and classmates' comments, helped me construct my thesis and opinions for the essay.

Mr. B is a fun professor and his modules are SO well organized. He is very clear about deadlines and instructions each week. He keeps grades updated and gives great feedback. Its writing heavy (discussions/major essays) but A LOT of interesting prompts. As long as you do the work (reading, writing, THINKING), you can easily get a good grade :)

This class was probably one of my favorite English classes I've ever taken. The stories we read in the class were so good! Plus Mr. B tries his best to make the class exciting and more fun. He'll change up the usual discussion posts with something different, which is nice. The peer assigned reviews were so much help in getting a good grade!

Brosamer's 101C class of Critical Thinking and Composition felt very standard yet personal at the same time. His course focuses on current controversial issues that attempt to hone one's argumentative skills. When writing essays, he allows his students to critique their own drafts, adding a layer of connection and support for an online class.

Brosamer's ENGL104 class, The Short Story, helped me dip my toes into analyzing literature at a smaller scale. He urges his students to think about the implications of the text, or what bigger themes stories represent. Each class felt engaging, as the class often put their heads together sharing ideas. You even get to write your own short story!

While this course may not be an easy A, you should have no problem doing well as long as you stay organized and proactive. The class is pretty fun and Professor Brosamer does a better job of keeping it that way than most other teachers. Just put in the effort that this course deserves, and you can expect to finish on a high note.

The essays offered are pretty clear on what you need to do to succeed on them - Mr. B usually provides several prompts to choose from and I would suggest using that to your advantage, don't pick the topic you know nothing on! Realistically, the only reason one would end up failing is if they didn't put in any effort, you can easily scrape with a C.

I loved Mr. B's ENG-101C class! I took it online over the summer and appreciated how he focused the content on current events happening in the country. Left the class with a much more solid understanding of society / how to convey my thoughts through writing. There's a lot of reading involved and office hours are an easy way to get solid feedback.

Mr. B is a caring teacher with a lot of experience. He is no stranger to what he does, and you can tell that he loves doing it. He is one of the most understanding professors that I have had to date, and I would definitely recommend any of his classes to others as I have taken a few.

I've taken three separate English classes with Mr. B. He makes learning the material fun and interesting. He also gives decent feed back and is very approachable. He pretty laid back, but you do need to put in the effort; do the reading assignments.

He is what I consider to be a genuine professor, what I mean by that is that sure he wants you to succeed and pass the course, but his desire is that you do it by genuinely becoming a good writer. I thought Prof. Brosemer's class was pretty easy, actually. I took him for a condensed summer class and liked the pacing and the quality feedback he gives on papers. Gotta do the work, but if you do you'll get something out of it.

Ive taken several classes with Mr. B. Hes general pretty laided back. Youll most likely have 4 essays (2 timed midterms and 2 home essays). Hell only give pop-quizes when it obviously that the entire class isnt doing the readings. Hes general isnt a tough grader. Put in do the work and youll be fine.

Don't feel discouraged by the reviews & the ratings. Yes, he's tough for an English professor, but as long as you work hard and put in the effort you'll be okay. Don't bs essays. Follow the feedback you receive from your rough drafts and email him with any questions. Introduce sources when doing in-text citations ALWAYS!! You'll be okay.

I took the advice of a friend to take 101C with Mr. B and could not be any happier! Professor Brosamer is a kind and caring professor who really wishes for your success and mastery of English. He helps you understand current events using critical thinking and genuinely cares for his students. I highly recommend him for any class!

Professor Brosamer is a very good professor who cares a lot about his students. He gives really good feedback enough to where the student can fully understand what he wants on essays. He's always open to students who may struggle in his class and give the best advice. Attend his lectures and go to office hours if you struggle and you'll do well.

The professor was a fair grader and his criteria was straightforward. As someone who was not the greatest at writing essays, I still managed to get an A. If you do all the work and stay ontop of it, it is a pretty easy class. If you have a choice between Brosamer and another I would go with Brosamer.

Professor Brosamer's class was unlike any other English class I have experienced before. I was expecting the usual reading of books and analyzing the text, but we ended up looking at much more relevant material that we'd share opinions on in discussion boards. Because of Mr. B's open-mindedness and a wide selection of topics, the writing was easy.

Professor Brosamer offers an interesting learning experience by incorporating current and relevant topics into his English classes. He provides helpful feedback on nearly every assignment and clearly outlines weekly expectations. Despite the challenges of having his class online, I genuinely think my writing improved during my time with him.

I found Prof B's class to be super fun and inviting. I am a writer by profession and I'll admit it improved because of this class. Also, he makes an effort to diversify the voices read in class. I have a LOT of respect for Prof B and I would like to think I's be a teacher like him someday.

This class is EXACTLY how I was hoping my ENG101C class would be. Perfect amount of readings, discussion/essay prompts are actually stimulating, feedback on papers are incredibly helpful and - depending on your classmates - the discussion posts can actually be fun and engaging! To top it all off, Mr. B is understanding, accessible & sincere. 10/10!

Professor keeps everything organized and the work load is definitely manageable. The topics we read about and wrote essays on were very interesting and relevant to what is going on in the world today. He is very understanding and gives amazing feedback for your essays. If you listen to his advice and stay on top of your work, you will do great.

You won't find better feedback on your writing anywhere else. Mr. B is extremely straightforward and honest, if you accept his criticism and incorporate it into your essays then it's an easy A. I dropped in to his office hours twice during the sem and he was super fun to talk to. He gives A LOT of time for you to write, so no worries on deadlines.

Prof B is a teacher that if you do as he said, you will be getting A in his class. You also can really learn something in his class. It is 101C, don't think it will be an easy A to get, you still need to write your paper, no matter what professor you take. But I think prof B. is pretty straight forward, look at his feedback, then you are good to go

Loved taking Modern Fiction with Mr. B! The literature we read was captivating and it was a genuine pleasure to be in class every Wednesday. The work wasnt particularly tough, but you should make an effort to do your best and read the novels. Mr. B gives great feedback on essays and hes happy to help out, so its not exactly a hardship.

I took 101C with Mr. B online due to Covid and had such a great time in his class. I wish I'd had the opportunity to take it in person with him--if you can, do it! It was challenging (as in critical thinking and lots of writing) but Mr. B made it fun and is engaging. He brings out the best in his students. I'd take it again in a heartbeat.

I completed English 101 C with Professor Brosamer. The class was challenging and pushed me to see, and present, both sides of an argument. Professor Brosamer helped me to work on my weaknesses and was supportive as I strove to improve This was a class I wasn't looking forward to taking, but Professor Borsamer made it a positive experience.

The man knows how to teach an online class. This class was so much better than the other classes I took last semester. This class was NOT an unnecessary source of stress, everything was extremely organized and if I needed some sort of resource, it was probably in one of the modules. Put in some work every week and that's an A for you.

Modern Fiction with Professor Brosamer was truly a joy. I genuinely looked forward to the weekly Zoom sessionsthe class felt like a book club with essays. All the readings were very engaging and carefully chosen. Professor Brosamer grades comparably to university professors, and gives very helpful feedback.

Mr. B. cares about his students and is really interested in helping us learn. He's also pretty funny/goofy, not in a corny way. :)

The class is a great experience if you want to actually talk about real issues. Some topics we talked about were racism, what is a good life, and other real-world problems. Homework is not really heavy, just discussion once a week, with readings, but it is not boring. We had 3 essays but gives you very good feedback and time on each one.

Professor Brosamers course is the most worthwhile class Ive taken at Ohlone. Points are not given throughout the semester on individual assignments, which allows you to focus on your writing and developing analysis skills. Seems scary at first, but it was incredibly helpful. No textbook required, and lots of fun topics covered. Take this class!

Brosamer is a great teacher who provided criteria and assignments that explore a diverse and inclusive set of articles and discussion boards. The contract grading approach allowed me to focus more on the quality of my work without worrying too much about what grade I will get. As long as you participate and put in the effort, you will excel.

Had a great time in this class. It was an 8-week class, but the course load was very manageable. Assignments consisted of discussions and 3 essays, but the material was based on current events and interesting to read. I really recommend taking this class, he gave really helpful feedback and was very understanding :)

I took Professor B for ENG-101c and his class was very insightful. This was the first english class where Ive been invested in the material. He gave great feedback and I loved the structure of this course. The class consisted of 3 papers and manageable weekly assignments in the form of discussion posts. Overall, I recommend taking him for 101-C!

Professor Brosamer isn't like any other professor I've had. He doesn't grade traditionally, rather he gives you the grade you deserve based on your effort. He's understanding so even if you struggle with writing he will give you a good grade in the end if you genuinely try. My writing improved taking this class since he gives great feedback.

This is the best professor I've ever had at Ohlone, easy A. This semester is one discussion per week, and you don't need to write much. There are three essay and no research papers. You just have to follow the professor's requirements and I think anyone can get an A. Highly recommended

I definitely think Professor Brosamer is quite a unique professor at Ohlone. I found myself engaging with his syllabus in a way I did with no other course, mostly because it was one of the first English classes that actually encouraged me to take risks and have fun in my writing. If you're consistent in your efforts, you will do well.

Receiving a final grade at the end of the class does not mean you can slack off. Mr. B makes the class fun, worthwhile, and incredibly inspirational. You'll learn more about yourself than the material in the end. Highly recommend taking his class for both ease and to retain your interest. Taught me how to enjoy learning again and to stay organic.

He focuses more on improving your writing than getting the best grades. He wants to see his students succeed. Just put in the effort and you will be fine! This class allows you to be creative. You can tell he appreciates it when you are. He likes it when you express your thoughts and you can be honest with him if you have concerns which is great.

101C was a rewarding experience that strengthened my writing capabilities. His grading is straightforward to follow, and his intentions are constructed for your success. Professor B is approachable and always gives quality feedback. The topics discussed are thought-provoking & I would 1000% recommend Professor B! He is amazing!

Mr.B keeps the class engaging through class discussions on relevant topics, life stories that relate to our lecture, and through his humor/wittiness. The assignments are reasonable as they are mostly annotating articles. He also gives great feedback on each essay and he is always available to help you out on your paper(s).

Mr. B is a great professor. If you don't enjoy not being able to see your grade for the entire semester, there's no need to worry b/c as long as you show effort and continuous improvement, you'll get a good grade. He also gives you a chance to argue for a better grade at the end of the semester. I was able to get an A instead of a B because of it.

This class is the definition of what you put into you get back. As long as you put effort into his class you will have a very successful semester.

I would definitely recommend taking Mr. B's class. Mr. B rewards effort and how much you work you put into improving your writing, as well as participating in class discussions. He is very helpful at working with students one-on-one during office hours on improving their work, and his feedback really helped me improve my writing.

Mr. B was a professor for my first semester at Ohlone and I loved his class. He's friendly and grades based on effort and how much you improve personally. He doesn't post grades, but it's usually pretty obvious what grade you're going to get. He even invited an international student in our class to have Thanksgiving dinner with his family!

I highly encourage you to take his class. Professor is an excellent professor who teaches you to improve your writing, to critically think, and gives you the chance to prove that you are more than capable of excelling. In his class, you will focus more so on your expression of thoughts rather than the traditional way of learning.

Whatever effort you put in is what you will get back. He has a contract grading policy (I personally liked it) so you won't know your grade till the end of the semester. If you want to get an A, you have to stretch yourself in class discussions and your essays. I recommend writing as much as you can for any assignment. Overall great professor!!

I took both his 101C and 107 english classes spring semester, and I loved both. Really laid back guy once you talk to him and easy to conversate with. Although I may not be completely on board with his contract grading policy, I do appreciate the feedback given (really helped me for my next essays). There was a pop-midterm which was ... unexpected.

Professor Brosamer has a wonderful, laid back personality. The topics he covers (social media, emotional fulfillment) are valuable and thought-provoking. He recognizes that the internet is a powerful stimulant that must be used in moderation, and is not anti-tech as some students have claimed in the past.

Professor Brosamer has a unique teaching style that requires active engagement. While not everyone's cup of tea, I found his discussions thought-provoking. Paired with resources like unstuck study, I was able to succeed in the class.

I would highly recommend taking this class if you need to take 101C. He gives very thorough feedback and is happy to discuss your work in depth if you attend office hours. Overall, the course was pretty easy. Not a fan of the contract grading, but as long as you do what is asked of you and your writing is decent, you should walk away with an A.

I don't entirely understand why this Professor has so many negative reviews, however, I took Brosamer this semester for World Mythology and he was a solid instructor who genuinely cared about what he was teaching. He makes the classroom feel like an inviting space, you can approach him and ask questions about any of the content you don't understand

His class was engaging and fun. The books are an easy read. Assignments include online postings, a couple of essays, worksheets in place of quizzes, extra credit work, two group projects, and two exams. If you spend time reading the material and doing the assignments, you'll receive an A. He's a fair grader, and is accessible during office hours.

Professor Brosamer is always accessible out of class during office hours. Office hours were extremely useful imo. The only real complaint I have is that he does not normally give grades, but rather an end-of-year evaluation. If you showed up to office hours and class, improved on essays, and did ALL your homework, it should be an easy A.
