mark is a fun, interesting and intelligent instructor. he makes communications a worth while class. if you are terrified of speech this is a very comfortable class.
Mark is fun, exciting, and a little out dated, but his stories and the way he teaches will have anyone on the floor with lafter.
Mark makes learning fun. His stories are awesome, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I really enjoyed going to this class.
Made class very fun. You don't need to buy the textbook, he teaches through fun stories, lectures, and lots of activities. Has a great sense of humor. Very clear with class expectations.
Mark creates tasks that require comprehension, hard work but does it in a fun, easy going manner that results in an exciting outcome! He is very respectful to all and is willing to listen; recommend him to everyone seeking a fun but hardworking class!
After finishing my 4 yr. degree, I can still say that Bruner is my favorite teach I've had in college. I learned a lot, but most importantly, enjoyed doing it in his class. If you have the chance to take a class with him, do it!
Very helpful and kept the class interesting
Very fun to go to his classes. He really doesn't use a textbook. (HOORAY!!) His stories are FUNNY!His family sounds like a great one. At the end of the class, you honestly will feel friendly with nearly everyone there-no joke.
Mark Bruner is a great teacher. His lectures are exciting and he always has a great activity to do during class.
His personality &ease in teaching style are somewhat disarming and misleading. He is far from laissez faire with regard to his level of expections/quality of work. He was a little tough--exacting--on his grading criteria as pertains to our group presentations. I gained a lot of valuable information.
This was honestly the best class I've ever taken. I highly recommend Mark to anyone who is going to take interpersonal or small group communication. HE ROCKS!!!
I had interpersonal comm. with him and it was great, although the tests are a little harder than you would expect I learned a lot and had fun. This class has to be better than public speaking or any other Comm credit if you have him.
Mark Bruner is not only a great teacher, but a great guy. I passed him in the hall a year after having his class and he remembered my name. He presents the information in a very helpful and fun way and makes the class enjoyable. I hope I can work him into my schedule again next semester.
Highly recommend this class. I really liked his teaching style. He's a great teacher.
This class could have been a lot tougher but he made it interesting and enjoyable. The atmosphere of the class is casual and laid back. There are a dozen opportunities for extra credit but it's so easy to get an "A," I never needed the extra credit.
The class atmosphere was very laid back and fun. He has an excellent teaching style that other instructors should follow.
Regurgitation of the obvious from a myopic, Eurocentric man. Once showed an overhead comparing the cultural characteristics of the Swiss (pop. 5 Million) to those of Asians (pop. 3.5 Billion). Wonder if he's still showing those. He seems to be a nice. Just doesn't know any better.
Best professor EVER! Fair, fun, and friendly. Always has a smile on his face.
I loved going to this class every day. He makes class really fun to attend. It's really worth your tuition money. You'll never sleep in this class because there's always something fun do to. He's got a sense of humor. Just take him. His tests are from his notes and really easy. You just have to take notes and that's exactly what the test is based o
great funny interesting teacher. lots of groupwork, duh. doesnt use the book at all.
I wish every professor would teach like he does, we would all stay in school.
Mr. Bruner will go out of his way to say hi to you in the halls as well as in the classroom to help you learn. Simply put he is a great person as well as professor.
He is an awsome guy. He knows the subject back to front and makes it interesting as well as fun to learn. Very friendly too, takes ten minutes at the begining of class just to talk to everyone. He's a really nice guy. He uses his hands alot to talk, it's actually kind of funny, he can't keep his hands down to save himself.
I went into this class uninterested in the subject, and completed the class with a genuine interest in the subject. I wish all teachers would inspire each student that way! He is an awesome prof! The most enjoyable class I had all semester!
Awesome teacher! He's so enthusiastic about the subject it's hard not to get carried away in it as well!
Awesome!
i have taken three comm classes from mark because he is such a great teacher, go to class, he will get you interested even if you arent, i would completely reccomend him to people completely uninterested in the subject, and people who also completely love it
I love this class (small group communication). Prior to the first day, I thought it was just going to be another boring GER; but I was wrong! Mark has a style of teaching that gets you involved in your own learning. He tells hilarious stories, and is extremely animated - you'll love going to class!
Mark is an awesome teacher! I wasn't interested in small group communication at all in the beginning of the semester, and honestly didn't think I'd really learn anything. Truth be told, I actually learned a lot this semester, and would love to take another course taught by this prof! He is funny, interesting, and a real people person. Love him!
He is an awesome teacher! I had him at 9:30am and he was motivation enough to go to class. He really engages his students during lecture. I highly recommend him!
best class ever! if only UAA offered a communications major. i might make it my minor. this prof is the best. i expected to leave the class with a B due to me having B's the whole semester. somehow i got an A and it was easy most of all. dont buy the book, he will tell you to return it. thats how good he is, no book required!
Best teacher ever! Tells really funny stories no homework just three group projects. Gives extra credit on almost anything.
Teaches well, makes it interesting, a lot of stories relating to topics, no homework, a lot of E.C, easy A. a midterm, final, book report, and class activity folder(U have to write what you though about the activity, so i recommend you going to the class) He's a "reasoning" guy so give him good reasons why you think the way you do. I RECOMMEND HIM!
Hes a great teacher! funny and easy going and teaches the material well. hes understanding and grades fairly based on requirements that he tell you. dont buy the textbook youll just have to return it just come prepared with a mind ready to learn and a notebook. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!
Best communication teacher at UAA. As long as you are a team player and not a quitter, you will get a lot out of this class. Collage is all about team projects, and this is the class where I learn how to do just that. Make sure you are ready to talk in front of the class because there are some group presentations.
OUTSTANDING! He knows his stuff! Small Group was a fun and interesting class. A very interactive and funny instructor who is willing to help you out any way he can. I think he should do his own stand up routine. Three group assignments, two tests,in-class activities, extra credit book report, and NO homework!
Do not buy the textbook! You don't use it at all, even though he says you do. If you don't go to class you won't know what's going on, but the plus side is his class is a ton of fun! Take his class!
Mr. Bruner is an amazing teacher. You have to go to class if you want to understand what is going on, but you won't need a textbook. He makes class comfortable, fun, and filled with knowledge. If you do exactly what he says on homework assignments/tests you will get a great grade.
Take this class, even if you don't have to! EVery prof at UAA should strive to be like Bruner. He is on your level, knows what he is talking about but makes class FUN! A comfortable atmosphere, I was never afaid to offer my opinion. AMAZING PROF!
His class is so much fun. You do need to attend though it is not mandatory to understand what is going on. Don't need the book and he says not to buy it. Take this class you will not be disappointed, very fun for a GER course.
Great Professor! Always enjoyed going to his class. Has great stories that relate to class. Fun, nice and easily approachable guy. It's a relaxed class where you get to know everyone. Exams were kinda hard, but the rest of the class was pretty easy. Would recommend him to anyone
Bruner knows how to interact with students on their level and create a class environment where everyone can learn easily. He doesn't use the textbook, so all test material comes from notes during lectures. Assignments are relatively easy and as long as you pay attention and show up for class, it's a breeze.
A reasonably easy class if you pay attention and make SURE TO TAKE NOTES! Bruner bases all his exams off of lectures and he doesn't use the book, so don't bother buying it. You'll learn a lot if you dedicate yourself to attending his classes and doing the minimal number of assignments he gives out.
Knows communications very well and is very into what he teaches. His funny personality makes it worth going to even though you aren't required, but go to class and take good notes, or at least make sure you understand the examples he uses in class, and you'll do fine.
Professor Bruner is very enthusiastic about communications. He is very funny and his classes while not mandatory are fun to go to. He does not use the textbook so DON'T BUY IT. If you go to class take notes and you won't need the textbook. This is an awesome class!
Such a good teacher!
I had his 0830 class. I usually showed up mostly asleep, but Prof was usually loud and entertaining enough to make me wake up, and more importantly, to get my attention and help me to retain information. He does this by telling personal stories that the students can relate to. Overall, i really loved his class. Minimal to no use of textbook.
I loved this class. I wasn't looking forward to taking COMM but his class had a relaxing environment and presentations felt like nothing. He tells a lot of great stories. No use of the book, don't bother buying it. He is a very fun, loud, interactive teacher. I'm sad the semester is over. Fairly easy test just make sure to pay attention/take notes.
This guy is very nice and knows his stuff. He tells funny stories and is a fair grader. I recommend you take him. His presentations are nothing to stress about, he makes you feel relaxed.
Very interesting man. Made class engaging and interesting. Will not need the textbook for his small group communication class if you always attend class. Save some money and a headache by showing up. He makes it worth your time.
Easy class, as long as you attend class every day you don't need to use or buy the textbook. He's very nice and as long as you participate in discussions and understand the material, you will get a passing grade.
EXTREMELY disorganized, very funny teacher but my grade is more important. He grades pretty harshly and his test questions are very ambiguous. If he gives you an oral grade ask for a signed document stating that grade because he will likely forget what he said and change that grade later on.
Had a lot of fun, great professor for this subject. You do not need the book if you attend class every day, he covers everything you need to know and does not assign anything out of the book, but do take notes. Very positive and fun class, highly recommend!
AMAZING TEACHER! He is funny, helpful, and understanding. He is by far the best prof I have ever had! Every teacher should strive to be this good! His tests are hard but fair. I would love to take another class of his just to have him as a teacher again. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! He never uses it!
Really knows what he's talking about and his sml grp class is fun and interesting, but it's deceptively easy. He seems very laid-back but his grading is much harsher than he lets on.The best way to get a good grade is to be assertive in your groups and make sure you get your ideas across to group members.Didn't use book at all.
Really good teacher but harsh on grading as he expects perfection and will critique you on the minor things. Otherwise, very much fun class and entertaining.
Disorganized, but very funny and very into his subject matter. Though he does grade tough, you can learn a lot from him. He doesn't require that you have the textbook, so just take thorough notes during his lectures and you'll pass. I would definitely take his class again.
Bruner is a great professor! I would definitely take him again if I needed more communication credits. Tough grader on midterm/final but less so on projects. Really puts things into perspective by using his own stories and experiences. Funny and a class that you'll actually enjoy going to!
Mark is great! He's very personable, relaxed and laid back in the classroom and uses personal stories to keep things interesting. I didn't find his grading that hard, you'll do fine if you take notes and proof read your paper. I wasn't a fan of the group presentations just due to the fact of dealing with a group, but it was a good, useful class.
I really liked the way he taught. He was very interactive and the course load was light. Keep up with the journal entires and go to class.
Bruner is an awesome teacher! Attending class regularly makes it a lot easier to learn the concepts than reading the book. He's super nice and is willing to help students if they don't understand. I would definitely recommend him!
Mark is extremely hilarious and is very informative and passionate about communication. He is definitely willing to help you out. There is no textbook for Small Group Comm, and his lectures/notes are clear so tests are theoretically a breeze. He uses stories a lot to connect to the material which is super helpful in understanding the material. <3
Bruner is the best. His class is super easy, but you still actually learn things. He uses a lot of stories to make points and they're always entertaining. He doesn't require a textbook. This class is honestly the only one I really look forward to going to. If you have the option, take this class.
Bruner makes you want to go to this class, and guilty if you miss out. He makes it easy to understand but is still extremely helpful before and after class if things are confusing. It is important to pay attention though and take decent notes since there is a bit, expecially in the beginning. His classes are hard to get into, but if you can, do it!
Professor Bruner makes morning class doable. He's hilarious and lively, which makes it easier to wake up in the morning and pay attention. Lots of group activities in class and then four main group projects over the course of the semester. Overall easy and fun class, especially if you want to get out of solo public speaking.
Mr. Bruner is absolutely hilarious. He's by far the funniest teacher I've had the pleasure of having. He's a very good teacher as well, explaining things in ways everyone can understand. He interacts with the students and relates to them. He doesn't assign very much homework at all; it's mostly done in class.
Bruner is nice, funny, helpful, and passionate about communication. He understands that it's a GER but gets people involved. Tries to create a good atmosphere all the time. Answers all questions clearly, grades fairly. 2 tests - midterm and final. 3 group presentations. 1 journal with numerous entries. Those are your only grades - make them count.
No reading, No homework. Show up every to every class, and give 3 speeches. (1 group, and 2 individual). He doesn't use Blackboard, so you'll know your final grade when he posts it to UA Online. He is VERY knowledgeable in communication, and makes the class EXTREMELY interactive and fun! He grades hard, but I would recommend him to anyone!
He is really awesome, caring, and a great teacher! Just got to be aware that there is not a lot of grades, so group presentations matter! NO text book required!
For anyone that is considering taking Small Group comm because you want to avoid public speaking: take it with Bruner. He is downright hilarious and is super fun to talk to. He makes early classes something to look forward to. Three group projects, what do you expect?! Also, no book. So that's a plus!
Great professor! If you have to take a communications class, take it with him. No book required, he teaches you all you'll need in class with activities that help you remember the material. Bruner makes the class atmosphere enjoyable and he has a good sense of humor.
Took Small Group Comm and he was a great professor. Funny, and responds quickly to emails. No textbook and you are only graded on group projects, midterm, final and some in-class activities.
One of the best professors I've ever had, he knows his stuff and is super funny. Participation is super important in his courses, but his classes are actually interesting so that shouldn't be a problem. People often make friends in his classes. The guy is a wicked story teller, highly recommended. NO TEXTBOOK
Professor Bruner is fricken hilarious! Going to class was always a blast! He makes learning about communication really fun and interesting. No homework, but take good notes for the midterm and final!
Great professor, very funny! Made learning small group communication fun.
No textbook and no homework. There are group presentations, but he will give you enough time in class to touch base with your group so you have less outside work for them. Always has great stories, and keeps class interesting with activities that go along with the lectures. I recommend small group to everyone needing their communication credit.
Bruner has a way of always keeping the class focused. In every lecture he uses real life experiences to better describe the content of what he is teaching. His class has little homework (it's communication anyways), but notes are a good idea for the midterm and final. He keeps the class engaged, and everyone has a great time while learning.
Super funny and makes the class enjoyable!!!!
Bruner is a great professor! His lectures are hilarious and he loves to give real world examples. For this class, there were three group presentations. He's not a super tough grader. He definitely looks for effort, though. I would definitely take another communication class with him.
I take small group communications and this class is by far my favorite. You can tell Prof. Bruner is passionate abut his job. I get a lot out of this course and it's applicable in everyday life. You definitely get out of this class what you put in so don't hold back. Hands down, Bruner is one of the best teachers I've ever had.
Professor Bruner is an excellent choice for Communications! Funny, engaging lectures are a staple of his course. Definitely want to show up every day and take notes if you want that A. Dont be afraid of his group projects he somehow makes it work even with mediocure group members. Highly reccomended!
Bruner is a must for any Comm class he teaches. He does not require any textbooks, and his midterm and final are written newly based on how the class and him meld together. There are a couple speeches, if you follow his grading rubric you will get a good grade. He is very personable and wants to see you succeed.
Bruner is a great professor for all communications courses. It is imperative that you attend his lectures, but they are not boring or difficult to comprehend. Typically consists of a midterm and final that you are well prepared for as well as a couple speeches. He is very accepting of all students regardless of their skill levels.
Mr. Bruner was an awesome teacher. You need to show up to lectures and take notes to be successful on tests. He is a great lecturer and has a lot of experience in communication. Very few assignments. The tests are a huge part of the grade so you have to show up to lectures.
What a fantastic class. He incorporated his lectures with group projects and learning through doing rather than simply reading a textbook. I enjoyed his class and highly I recommend taking it with Mark.
Bruner is a hilarious teacher. He definitely knows how to approach topics in a fun and engaging way. You will never show up bored. All projects are group projects and there are activities each week that you need to write about, so you wont want to miss class if possible. Definitely a great class.
Bruner was an amazing teacher. He told us that we wouldn't need a book for his class because all the knowledge will be given in class and incorporated with projects and activities. There are ten activities that are done in class that you have to write about, some group projects, and 2 tests. He is a great lecturer & a fantastic teachers.
Bruner is an amazing professor. This class was easy if you pay attention to lectures and come to class. He's hilarious and always willing to work with students, I would definitely take a class with him again.
Probably one of the best classes I've taken this semester by far . Hes a laid back grader and easy to pass class . His lecture are great. I would definitely recommend taking this class.
A funny professor. You won't be bored in his class. The class consist of four group projects and ten reflection assignments. Don't procrastinate on the reflection assignments!
His lectures were engaging and entertaining. Bruner assigns lecture-reflection homework for almost every class. The textbook is optional but recommends if you want to reinforce the material. Group projects - interesting and engaging too (about 3-4 in total). Final - group project + reflection of class. Overall, fun and interesting class!
Lectures were engaging and entertaining. // Assigns lecture-reflection homework for almost every class. // Textbook is optional but recommends if you want to reinforce the material. // Group projects were interesting and engaging (about 3-4 in total). // Final was a group project + essay reflection of class. // Overall, fun and interesting class!
He's a great story teller! I laughed until I was crying. He teaches effectively; he breaks his lectures down and gives examples. There were only 3 group presentations. A problem you might encounter is having people in your group who don't participate much or pull their weight; the group grade is what each student gets. Definitely take this class.
By far my favorite teacher of my university career. Don't drink vanilla lattes or he will be merciless towards you. Loves to incorporate personal experience into his class. Prepare ahead of time for the group projects, he can tell if you threw it together last minute and he hates it. Highly recommend Bruner
hes amazing at lecture using lots of real life experiences. He does have weekly hw based upon activities done in class thats due at the final. Typical day is lecture then activity then some group time. 3 group projects however every group member shares the same grade. 1 midterm w/ 25 qs , multiple choice just need to study notes & a final.
Bruner is an amazing professor, you will not want to miss his class! Every class is hilarious and fun. My advice is take very good notes and also make sure you DATE your notes! Bruner's class is so fun, but you have to remember to take notes and be serious about retaining the lecture information. Group projects are easy, midterm is more difficult
Prof. Bruner is definitely someone who makes learning easy and entertaining. He's very lax and is clear about what he wants out of his students. It's an easy A if you invest your attention during class. No textbooks, just pure lecture and conversation. He's great.
Bruner is among the best professors at UAA. He's one of the funniest people I have ever met!! Comm is mandatory for GERs so I suggest you take one of his classes. He is a reasonable grader on group presentations. I am usually an A student and I definitely had to work for my A in this class by taking notes and studying for his 2 exams.
I took Bruner's small group communications class and had an amazing time. His lectures were interesting and relevant and kept the whole class engaged. We did lots of fun group activities, sometimes in class and sometimes around the campus. Participation was not mandatory, except on test days, but was still high because the class was so fun.
easy going, chill but effective professor, 9.5/10 overall
Bruner is probably one of the best professors I have ever had. Hes great and he makes class enjoyable. I had his 8:30am COMM A235 and was like what did I sign myself up for but honestly its not bad at all. Hes really funny and doesnt start right away. He also likes to let the class out early!
Bruner is a really great professor who makes learning his material easy and fun.
Mr. Bruner is such a fun professor who obviously enjoys teaching his courses. His powerpoints are easy and clear to understand. I think his class would be more enjoyable in person, however, the group projects make up a lot for the communication part.
He makes class fun!
Lovely class. Fun guy. Responds quickly
Energetic professor, made class exciting. Responds quickly and is understanding. 3 group presentations that had very vague requirements, you and your group were free to choose whatever topic. Many group activities so participation is required. Mid-term and final were open notes, easy class to pass. Show up and write notes.
I think he was an alright teacher. I didn't like the way he taught the class. It was completely online, yet he made us meet in groups on zoom. It was difficult to find times to meet and made the class inconvenient. He's a good teacher, but the way he teachers I don't like.
Wonderful teacher, will help students to his fullest capabilities.
This was an asynchronous online course and the Professor was hardly engaged. A LOT of note taking from the long lectures but then super tricky questions on tests... for a communications course, his testing style was very frustrating! I also hated how he ran the group projects.. everybody got the same grade, regardless of effort. Not impressed.
