Has worked in the industry. Provides quick feedback, but not a fair (consistent) grader. Does not accomodate FEEDS students fairly when the course is offered through FEEDS.
Excellent professor I think. He gives the class a real-world touch, which is excellent because college just doesn't prepare you enough for what life is really like. Turning in an assignment is like submitting a proposal to a review board... giving a pre
Extremely ambiguous on the assignments. Can you guess what he wants??
WOW! Mark is soooo HOT! His starched, monogrammed shirts and tasseled shoes really do it for me. But here's what I want to know, If he's color blind, then how does he dress himself in such a coordinated manner every single day? All joking aside, he's an excellent professor.
Great! Teaches material with realworld examples Willing to spend as much time as necessary with you if you dont understand something, as long as you make a minimal effort and go to his office or send an e-mail Quick response to e-mail. Plus, he is easy on the eyes which made me show up every morning
Excellent. He's always willing to lend a hand. His only expecations are for you to attend class and attempt the work. If you have problems with the assignments he is more than willing to spend the time to help out.
He is not consistent at all when it comes down to grading. He "TRIES" to give examples by just telling the class how much money he has,he spends or the businesses he does. Prob. a good business man but def. not a good eng. professor. His teaching method is not the most favorable 4 students.
C+ professor
he is excelent, but u have to go to his office. If not, he will assume you dont care and he wont care at the end if you beg for mercy. make sure u study for his final.
Mark really cares about if his students learn. He encourages you to do the TAKE HOME tests on your own that way you dont have a problem on the final exam. If I were you,go to class, pay attention, and visit his office hours because he is a very good professor and great at helping students if your willing to take time and go see him. If not good luck
GOOD professor. He's not a long-winded lecturer, not an academic, but a successful businessman who knows his sh*t. This isn't a class for overachievers or slackers, but people interested in learning useful stuff for the real world will enjoy and benefit from it. Warning: FEEDS students have a SEVERE disadvantage... take the live course if you can.
Go to class, pay attention, FOLLOW DIRECTIONS and you should be fine. Tests are quite simple if you study and his lectures usually run short!
dont take this professor for economics.... the tests arent like anything that he said they would be ....... as far as for other subjects ... he might do a better job teaching them....plus he repeats himself alot and is stuck up
This has to have been one of the easiest classes I've taken. If you actually go to class and do the homework it is not that hard. The tests are open note open book. The only bad thing is he uses the publishers notes, which generally have a lot of errors in them.
This class is crazy easy. He is a good teacher.... who cares this class is wicked easy take it and get it over with.
Helpful if you go to his office. DEMANDS respect, has plenty experience working high in the corporate food chain, acts like a politician at times. First test was crazy, but after that, each following test was easy. If you ACTUALLY go to class and study, you'll do fine... oh, and he's "not your father" so if you don't care, he doesn't either.
One of the best professors I've ever had. The class and material are easy if you go to class and do the work. Those who did poorly were seldom in class. I really enjoyed this class.
he might be experinced, but he is such a bully sometimes. not clear on many hard requiremnts and a he is relatively unfair when it comes to grading as he is very pre-judging. Happy I don't have to take him any more! other than that,he is a very nice guy on the outside!
Great teacher, keeps it simple and tells you what you need to know. Do the homework he gives you because it will make the class an easy A
RULE 1: DO ALL ASSIGNMENTS, ZEROS WILL GIVE YOU NO WIGGLE ROOM IN THE END. RULE 2: HE FAVORS CERTAIN STUDENTS (MOSTLY PRETTY GIRLS) BE ON HIS GOOD SIDE. RULE 3: FIGHT ALL GRADES, HE USUALLY MISS-GRADES EVERYTHINGG. HAVE A GOOD EXPLANATION AND PROVE HIM WRONG, SOMETIMES THAT'S NOT EVEN ENOUGH. I'VE HAD HIM FOR 2 CLASSES AND DON'T CARE FOR HIM AT ALL
Most course material taught from lecture and not book. Work load was spread out with group project checkups due every few weeks. As long as you follow what he asks for and keep up with the lecture recordings it's not that bad. Follow the guidelines and you are assured a good grade. Do be aware he grades on the +/- scale and requires a 95+ for an A.
Prof. Calabrese comes over intimidating in the beginning but he's fair. He lays out the ground rules and makes his expectations clear (ex: no late work). It is all about meeting requirements. Do the work, take the class seriously, and you do well. The end of the semester is more fun and clear! He is helpful and wants students to succeed.
This guy is so clear. You MUST follow his roles or you simply will fail this class. Not easy class. A lot of work. "A" grade is hard to earn it from him.
The material is quite simple. The textbook is a must, you use it for everything. He tried out online tests for the first time, which I felt hurt me - the questions pulled from the bank were very unclear at times. Make sure you do your homework and bring it in. I didn't trust his grading abilities.
Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. It is that simple...
The online format for tests I think hurt my grades. The questions were sometimes unclear and there was no opportunity for clarification with a timed test. The TA was horrible--did not respond to student questions and you couldn't even get feedback or your test grades without a hassle. I'd take Calabrese again, but only if he had a different TA.
Real life and a great professor!
I enjoyed that class and the project work. If I could I would attend again.
Class is not mandatory. After a couple of classes, I learned that he was pretty much reciting off of his online notes posted online. However, the notes have some errors in them, so if you don't want to confuse yourself, you should go to class. The homework is OK (easier with help). I learned more from the GTA than anything.
Calabrese is a pretty cool guy, but don't talk while he's talking, he demands respect. All of the exam questions were found online, and I got 95's on every test. Go to class because he sometimes solves hw answers in class. He is very clear and to the point when teaching. I plan on taking him for other classes.
Just a rude human being. Has the typical academia complex where he thinks because he is a teacher he is god. Does not realize most of the grad students he teaches are in more respected jobs then him. He went to "Florida Technical College" What a joke of a person
Very professional. You learn a lot in this class WITH this teacher. Used to be CFO of large corporations and will share knowledge. Also, to clarify the previous rating, he went to Florida Technological University, also known as UCF back in the days when UCF was mainly doing Engineering.
He demands respect, so no talking, texting, or sleeping in class. Practice problems from the PPTs & book and pay close attention in class to help you get an A. The open book/notes test are semi-fair but sometimes tricky. He can be very helpful during his office hours...nobody really goes to them, but YOU should. He may curve for you at the end.
Class was absolutely useless. Will take MAJOR points off if you get the RIGHT ANSWER and don't show all of your work. Class lectures are antiquated, ancient lectures he created probably when he first started teaching the class. This class is easy and straight forward, but the professor doesn't teach, he simply reads. TAKE online if you can....
One of my favorite professors, well, as good at it gets at 730 AM. Very clear on class expectations. If you listen to the lectures, you do will do well. Very helpful, but you have to approach him first. Lots of engineering experience to share. He teaches a lot of the IE classes so looking forward to having him again
Very good course for understanding topics that aren't typically taught in school about how to navigate the technical and corporate world. Mark provides great insights that he learned and went thru during his technical career, and his perspectives are very valuable. As long as you follow Marks direction via the syllabus you will earn a good grade.
Great class. This is project management and you WILL need to READ everything he gives you. He is helpful. He has great stories. There is one test, wasn't too bad. the test is a take home and you have plenty of time for it. You do have to work in a team. Attendance is mandatory to an extent
Professor Calabrese makes it very clear on what it takes to receive a rewarding grade. It is just as important to learn the material as it is to follow directions and pay attention to detail. He understands life's situations and presents workarounds, but he does not reward slackers. He "is not your father".
This class has one project and one test. In lecture, he replays his experience but his accounts tend to be negative and personally biased. I would strongly urge taking his industry advice with a grain of salt. Also, be careful, he tends to post a lot of incorrect dates and bad data but will hold YOU responsible, not himself. Be warned.
Violates FERPA. Doesn't hold to his own contracts, then penalizes you for it. Believes his way is the only way. In almost every assignment there is something you will do wrong that he won't tell you about just so he can prove some nonsensical point; and you will be graded harshly for it. If he is not teaching this class then take it. If so BEWARE.
Great teacher in my opinion. For a 7:30 am class, I didn't have any issues paying attention. Gives you his PP lectures to print off which makes note taking easy, Grades fair and material wasn't very hard to learn at all. Go to class and the work, ask questions when confused, and you'll get an easy A.
Great working experience, entertaining lecture and lots of interesting anecdotes. Smart-a.. who likes 'playing games' about assignments and grades. Poor use of learning management system, obscure grading criteria, useless exam. Beware of childish tasks 'hidden' in documents or information given during lecture and readable nowhere.
His project management course is very effective at showing students how to work in a real life project environment and with in a project team. He treats his syllabus as a binding contract with the students and will hold you accountable for everything that's in there. For a easy A follow his syllabus and his instructions very carefully.
Do as he says and you will get an A. Open book and note exams. First test is take home. If you don't follow the rubric or instructions he will take off 5 points for each mistake. Also, if you tend to show up late to classes, especially 7:30 classes, don't take him because he will fail you. If an assignment isn't turned in before 7:30 it's a 0.
Professor Calabrese's class is extremely low stress. The grade consists of 3 homeworks and 3 open book and open note tests, including the final. You will need the textbook in order to pass the class but you don't really need to read it as most of the exams revolve around his power points. You need the textbook only as a reference for the exams.
Professor is genuine and will reward for hard work. Just read the syllabus and follow what he asks you to do. Everything will seem easy.
Class really isn't too bad. The homework can be a bit tricky because you have to actually know the material instead of just following already solved examples.
Extremely easy class, all you need to do is show up and listen to the guest speakers. The professor, however, likes to make things more difficult than it seems. His instructions are very vague and he has somewhat of an arrogant attitude at times.
I rated him low not because the class was difficult, but because he was a terrible professor. He is slightly arrogant, and treats everyone like a child. The class was super easy but its hard to overlook these traits
Show up to class to turn in hw or do an exam. He basically just reads off the Powerpoints that are uploaded to Webassign, which you can print and take to an exam. I only say to take him because he's one of the only professors that have open note & book on exams, but as a professor, he's terrible. Just do the hw and pass the exams, you'll pass.
Professor Calabrese is amazing! He is very tough and expects a lot out of his students, but he cares about your success. There are only four homework assignments and three tests, which mainly comes out of the PowerPoints he goes over in class. Definitely take advantage of office hours!! As long as you put in the work, it is not very difficult.
Just do the homework and bring good notes to the exam and you will pass. Attendance is not mandatory.
I liked his organization, and that he made class interesting. He made it very clear what he wanted from us in homeworks and on tests which is a miracle for a UCF engineering professor. He was one of my favorites for sure.
Mark is an awesome dude with a lot of great anecdotal experience which makes the class very valuable. I've learned a lot that I can take into the real world. The only issue is that he's weirdly picky about assignments leaving tricks and pitfalls that make every assignment more stressful than it needs to be. Easy A but big stress/time commitment.
He's a really good pick for this class. I visited him a couple of times during his office hours for some of the few things I didn't quite understand and he cleared up all of my misconceptions. This class is also done past the midterm for non-IE students, so keep that in mind. Make sure to read the syllabus as well!
This class is easy if you pay attention and do the work. Exams are open book/open note. He has a huge ego which I found hilarious. Follow the rules for assignments in the syllabus, do the work, and you will be just fine. This is an interesting, real world, yet simple class. An easy A.
This class was online due to covid. My grade was above 93% but he changes the scale to make a 94 an A which I found annoying and unnecessary. There's 3 tests and 3 HWs but the tests only have a few questions so missing even one can drop you by a letter grade. Take very detailed notes because he'll pull very specific MC test questions from them.
Class was fun and easy. Had 7-8 guest lectures that covered different IE topics. Had the usual technology difficulty of getting audio to work but he tried his best to make it work. I was amazed how much students complained or couldn't follow instructions in one of the easiest classes at UCF. Attendance quizzes, two exam, and wrote two papers.
Overall Id say hes a pretty good teacher. Tests were very short (2-4 questions) but they were relatively easy. He lets you use notes on exams. He tells you exactly what he wants and how to solve problems unlike the rest of the engineering professors at UCF. Just stay on top of assignments and youll pass.
Relatively easy class, as long as you pay attention and take notes. Attendance quizzes are important, but easy if you go to class. A great professor!!
He genuinely cares about his students and teaches a lot of valuable skills in this class. Make sure you go to class though because he does do random attendance quizzes that are not on canvas. His tests are a lot like his power points so as long as you understand those you are fine.
Calabrese is one of the best professors I've had. He treats students like adults, which some don't like because it holds you accountable. Go to class and listen to lectures - he really gives great real-life info that is very interesting. Instructions can seem vague but just don't overthink it. And pay attention to his syllabus, it can be specific.
Worst professor I've ever had the misfortune of taking. Doesn't respect students, sets you up for failure, insults students, all under the pretense that his class replicates "the real world". I work in the real world and have never witnessed such ridiculous and unclear expectations. Class is structured to imitate Trump's Apprentice show.
People from the industrial profession were invited to speak to us about what our careers would be like. There were attendance quizzes but they were easy. I attended every class, but I don't think that would be necessary to pass unless you had to turn something in in person, although you wouldn't get the chance to hear from the speakers. Great class
Overall, a very busy class and you have to stay on top of everything. The syllabus is your contract; you better know it and make sure you don't leave off small details or you will get points off. He clearly lays out what is expected. Pay attention to deadlines and participate in the group project and you should be fine.
He used the textbook for all exams and hw. Easy class but he is a donkey butt if you know what I mean
I had a 4.0 before taking this class. The work is not hard, just be prepared to be graded heavily on a few assignments. Gave the final exam on a Monday at 6pm when most grad students would be working or commuting. The group project is basically graded with the "ball and chain" method in which you have no control over who tanks your overall grade.
This class is easy until it isn't. He requires you to stay on top of things with little guidance, including the ins-and-outs of projects, deadlines, and the syllabus. If you do that, you will be just fine. Work hard and show him that you care and respect him, and he will do the same to you. Assignments are each worth a lot so don't mess them up!
Calabrese is definitely a strict professor for no reason, which sometimes makes the easiest concepts difficult. However, if you go to lecture and just do things his way, you should be able to at least pass the course. Don't bother fully reading the textbook (he says you have to but half of the textbook teaches you how to do everything in EXCEL).
Prof. Calabrese is a personal favorite of mine. He may not be the nicest in class but he lectures concisely and doesn't waste your time. He'll treat you like an adult. The class isn't too difficult time wise either. Come to class, take good notes, follow along and review the examples when you do the homework. You will get an A. Would take again.
One of the best professors in the IE department. He has tons of industry experience that he leverages while teaching. If you ever need career advice GO TO HIM!!!! he is always willing to help and put you in contact with people as well. Note that he is a huge stickler on deadlines so when he says before class make sure you turn it in BEFORE.
I took 4 classes with Mark (Grad level). He was my fav prof because he made many real-world examples and made it easy to learn. I passed all 4 classes with an A. The secret? Read the entire syllabus and watch all the lectures. However, I didn't like the 5140 project, because it was kind of ridiculous. A make-believe project would have been better.
This professor is amazing. He does not expect too much of you so this class does not take up too much of your time. He just expects you to pay attention. As long as you can somewhat show you know what you are doing, you will at least get a B. Be aware of pop quizzes but they count for so little of the grade so it barely even matters.
Professor Calabrese makes it easy to do well as long as you show up and listen to the lectures. Tests are open book, there's a few homework assignments to practice, and no final exam.
Best professor ever! His lectures are amazing and he mostly teaches through anecdotes of his experiences with a specific subject. He is exactly like the boss you will encounter when you get a job. He is strict in the sense that he expects students to be in class every time (which is exactly what we should do as students). Gets you ready for exams.
This class is 10% coursework, 90% life lessons. Dr. Calabrese is very knowledgeable and gives fantastic lectures about his past experiences. By far the most useful class up to this point.
He deducted 10% of my test because I skipped ONE LINE of calculation, which was an easy division. The class is easy, but you have to do things in his way. In sum, Calabrese is the typical professor who teaches an easy class but over-complicates some details to flex like "You see?! My subject is tough!" which is not lol. Big ego guy hopehe changes.
The class is easy but he tries his best to make sure no one gets an A. Be aware of pop quizzes and hidden assignments on the syllabus. Most of the class is him bragging about his money or when he used to be CFO of whatever company. Exams are 80% of the grade, they are usually easy but short 2-3 questions so if you get one wrong there goes your A
Relatively "easy" class as long as you do exactly what he says and make sure to constantly watch/attend lectures for the pop quizzes.
One of the best professors I've had at UCF; not only does he state what will be tested on in the exams, but he also makes the grading rubric very clear and tells you what he expects on assignments/tests. There are random pop quizzes, and be sure to pay attention, as his way of teaching is different than most. All in all, highly recommend him.
This professor is difficult to talk to and doesn't like answering questions. If you ask something he doesn't want to answer, he'll say phrases like 'well I'm not going to spoon feed you'. The core project has endless amounts of unnecessary busy work (copy and pasting). You need to do everything exactly his way or he will penalize you, heavily.
Mark is an amazing teacher. Has loads of experience in the real-world in high management positions. attendance not mandatory but there are pop quizzes. He gives great lectures with cool stories. in class he teaches a lot but makes it very clear what will be on each test. Also super easy to talk to. Super easy to pass if you just pay attention.
Calabrese shares his immense business experience by telling enjoyable and funny stories. I loved learning this practical info. He is very up front about what will appear on exams, and offers help to anyone who will ask. He randomly does become picky and strict on certain things. He did a poor job of preparing us for inventory on the 3rd exam.
Cant believe this is the only professor who gives this class. He makes me want to change my major. Good luck.
The material in class is not hard but could be confusing, little mistakes can cause major problems so make sure to fix any mistakes you've had previously as this class (for the first half of the sem.) will build off of each other. Make sure to go to his office hours as they were super helpful! ALWAYS attend every class, he gives out helpful tips.
Professor Calabrese is very knowledgeable on the content and industry that he is teaching. But if you want an A in this class you need to work hard for it. Im serious. Start studying now. For real. All the other people who are saying he is the worst teacher honestly probably didnt study hard enough. He tells it how it is and prepares you.
This class is so easy if you just go to class, pay attention, and read the syllabus. All of the tests are open notes, and he even lets you download the PowerPoint or use the book. The quizzes are usually really easy and more of a participation grade to make sure you go to class. He is strict with rules, but none of them are that hard.
I had Mark during my time at UCF for multiple classes. He was one of the best professors in my entire academic career. Mark is a one-of-a-kind type of professor who clearly connects the dots to industry using his experience in large organizations. His sage "real-world" wisdom is 2nd to none. Work hard, put in effort, be specific - you will succeed.
One giant group project that he makes harder each semester he teaches. Pop quizzes and exam are easy because they're open note and just making sure you pay attention, but the bulk of the class is the design project. Most groups in my class were unsuccessful with their device. Professor can be a jerk and talk down to students at times.
