Awesome professor and person. Made accounting enjoyable
No Comments
this course was not easy but he help you understand so what ever course he teaches, i recommend that you take him.
i'm surprised to see he is still teaching!!! those ever in his class, u deserve a salary(for teaching him) on top of a tuition refund!
Good Guy!
Good teacher, if you want the A, make sure you read the textbook. Quizzes are right out of the book. YOu know it or you don't. Exams are fair, especially if you study for it. He tells you what problems will be on the test. Because he curves, you better do everything he asked or that 5% could cost you. Grade: A
I agree with the person below! Someone should teach HIM how to teach! I don't know about his ACCT 320AB classes, but, he definitely suck in ACCT 420. He spends 14 mins lecture, no examples, no powerpoints, no details, no nothing! He just tells you which pages to read, and goes over the hw the next meeting! IMO, worst teacher ever!
This message is for those who posted their comments on 7/15/05 & 3/12/05.You two must fail the course OR you just have NO IDEA about NUMBERS/$. Shame on you! I took ACCT 200B,320A,320B,420 with Mr.Canevari and never experienced 14 minutes lectures.I took most of my accounting classes with him and I passed CPA and CMA exams. He is an awesome teacher.
I like this professor, I thought that he did a good lob at teaching acct. I had many acct professors before and they sucked. Caverni is a good teacher.
Super cool professor that makes auditing seem fun. His class isn't all that easy but he does majorly curve.
As far as grading and passing the class is concerned, you need to be doing the homework and studying to pass the class. He has NO tolerance for slackers, so be forwarned! He WILL fail you if you don't make an effort.
Mark is the best! If you have the chance to take his class do it! He is always available for questions and extra tutoring during office hours. He does eveything step by step so you can actually apply the book to the course. Do the homework and make sure yo
He does no lecture. All he does is go over homework, and you can learn somewhat from that but with him you have to be an independent worker and be able to read and follow the textbook.
he doesn't lecture much. you have to learn on your own. but he is a very cool professor, and the curve for the exam is linear.
This guy has an elementary education level. He not only has zero knowledge of the subject, but didn't even bother to read the textbook. I have to say he's very nice, but other than that, every word out of his mouth makes him sound like a GIANT MORON. He DOES NOT KNOW MANY FOUNDATION CONCEPTS, SUCH AS "COST OF CAPITAL", "EVA & ROI", ...etc.

I have no idea what the other two are talking about. I enjoy this class and I find the teaching method clear and I like that we need to use our brains in class. This is one of the best class I have took at CSULA. The exams require you to actually study. Highly recommended.
The people below should learn how to spell before they criticize someone or call them a Moron. His tests are pretty difficult, if you don't study hard. He is very nice, but his lectures usually only cover homework problems. His method of teaching is not good for people who procrastinate and depend on the lectures to learn. Don't fall behind!
Covering a chapter in 15 minutes or less leaves you with a lot of doubts. Really nice guy but would not take him again. His curve is great but if you want to learn don't take him. I always read the chapters ahead of class and he changed the chapters all the time without notice, so ther was no way of keeping up with him.
He's the best acct professor for non-acct major! I failed acct 200a and got a B in his class. He knows how to teach and makes every lecture enjoyable. His tests were straight forward no tricky crap just straight from the hw and the few pages from the text he told us to focus on. He makes me love accting!!!
Great Professor! Exlpains things well
I enjoyed this class. It is one of the best accounting class I have taken. Dr. Canevari explains things well and clearly. I appreciate that he takes time to go over my questions when asked of him. He is fast with replying with emails and grade communication. Recommended by my roommate and was extremely pleased. This is my second class with him
he is good n willing to help me when i had questions. i am a nonacct major. enjoyed the class but hate acct (still do)
very nice guy, gave u more than what u should learn in class.some students comment that you can't learn much from him. HELLO! this is not an ELEMENTARY school, u got to learn by PREVIEWING the chapter and REVIEWING after. if u complain he didn't spend too much time in each chapter, then you should take other professors' and u will find some r worse
He is good at explaining things. I do not know what the other r talkin bout. Gradea fair ( I got a B) and if defn willing to help out.
He is a great professor who will really notice you individually as a student. Was stunned when he approached me about a career in accounting. I enjoyed his classes and think he is one of the most caring professor I have ever taken even thought I am not an Acct major. Having professors like him help make this topic more interesting.
He is very clear on what he's teaching, gets right to the point. He gives a HW assignment. He doesn't grade or collect them, but the class lecture & test review is based on the HW. He is willing to help students and if you don't study, you are not gonna pass this class. He doesn't take attandence, but it's your loss if you don't attend class.
He is a very good teacher, everyone should take his class. He explains HW very clear and easy to understand.
This is my second class with Dr. Canevari and I enjoyed it. He takes time out to help me and I wished I could have taken 300 with him as well but the dept would not have it that way. He is clear on the subject matter and he has real life experience so I appreciate that. Not your typical professor at CSULA, his classes are interesting and fun!
Great professor, very helpful and fair, strongly recomend him.
Canevari is a great instructor. He keeps his students interested and pushes his students to think. Very approachable guy. His teaching style is similar to Hossain's. Highly recommended! I wish he taught forensic acctg as well.
he's a great instructor, very understanding, clear, knowledgeable, auditing is very hard but he tries. one midterm and one final thats all. i highly recommend him!!!!!!!!!
He is really helpful and very supportive.
He makes learning so fun and is so supportive. This professor really cares about you as an individual and helps with resumes, job hunting which is rare! Highly recommend Dr Canevari!
Thank you for helping me get a good job! He is the best professor at CSLA who does so much for his students!!!!
He is the best professor who cares so much and really helps us with getting a job! Amazing professor. Must take for all students who want to work at a big 4, that is all I will say.
I agree with the other two people who have taken 320A this quarter. By far the most caring professor. Thank you for teaching. You have made a difference! They should hire more professors like him.
Thank you for making this class interesting and looking out for us. Most of us wish you can continue to teach 320B! CalState needs to hire more people like him.

I do not know what the previous 3 ratings are referring to but this class was the best experience I have ever had at CSULA and I like that the professor was interactive so we felt more engaged. Professor Canevari replied to all my email inquiries really fast and assisted me in my learning that way. Highly recommended.
he is ok, if you want to learn on you own. then this is the prof for you. he rushes thru chapters and he doesn't really lecture on the subjes , he expect you to know it and understand it on your own. he is ok, but would't reconmend. only 2 test.
He is an excellent professor! The best accounting professor in CSULA, i do not know what the bad ratings are about but he is the only professor that sees his students as humans. yes u do need to study as all classes require you to do!
No! he is not OK. Prof is horrible. he cannot explain even the basic concepts, and these is a tough course. you are on your own! Not recommended!!!
great professor who seems to genuinely care about our success. graded on a curve for this class. do the hw and youll be fine.
He is an excellent prof. His quizes are easy and helpful. 2 mid & 1 final. No presentation, no essay. His explaination is clearly. I strongly recommend him.
He has made a difference! This is one professor who not only teaches well, but place a strong emphasis on job placement and helps his students get jobs. Very well-connected. Class wise, he brings applicable experiences to the classroom and it is by far the best class I have ever had at CSULA
I am sure why ppl think he is awesome.. he gave a short guidance of wut you need to read to survive. his lecture sounds fun..but didn't cover much on term nor explain anything important.. you need to read by yourself.. btw, did he D or F ppl??
perfect teacher to take for a 4 hour class. listen to his lectures and you will pass the class. Has a good attitude.
Mr. Canevari is a very nice teacher. He cares about his students. Study guides are very helpful...read in between the lines when it comes to the multiple choice because that can make or break your grade. Overall the class was great, just prepare to put a lot of time into studying...
Great guy, fun, makes you lean only whats important. He was born to teach. He is so good at it. Even dumb people pass his class.
I only had him for 424A, and the way he taught, it was a pretty easy A. He tells you exactly what to focus on,& his tests were not very hard.
Very easy class. He tells you exactly what you need to know. Very helpful. Five quizzes, 1 midterm, and final. 4 team cases, but they're all in class and easy. 2 out-of-class assignments that are homework problems from the book. I felt like I really learned alot about this subject. Best professor I've had so far at CSULA. Highly Recommended!!!
I took both Acct 424b & 424a with him. He is very helpful and makes the class very interesting. He tells you exactly what to study for the tests. He works as an auditor and I learned a lot from him. He is the best teacher in CSULA! Highly recommended!!
This class was a good class. The knowledge gained from this class is beneficial especially if you are planning to the CPA exam. Quizes and Test Questions are tricky, but they are passable only if you read and do homework assignments. I recommend this class!
He is really nice and very responsive via email and easy to get a hold off. Extremely helpful and fair. Would be nice to get extra credit assignments. Good eye candy - best in accounting department. Hard grader though
He is an amazing professor and it helps that he is VERY good looking :) The best thing about Dr Canevari is he always is willing to help his students and very responsive via email and willing to meet the students anytime or on weekends.
Best acct prof. Very helpful and clear. Lectures are short and useful but you have to study. NO ACENT. He makes acct fun and he's really cute :)
Best accounting teacher to ever! Really helpful and wants everyone to succeed. Class was fun and never enjoyed accounting until this professor. Highly recommend.
super nice prof, gives you handouts and notes for each chapter and tells you what to read and what not to study, make subjects simpler, but the exams are not easy and you need to put a lot of effort studying the book and material.
super nice prof, gives you handouts and notes for each chapter and tells you what to read and what not to study, makes subjects simpler, but exams are not easy, you need to put a lot of effort to study the book and material.
3 exams, hw almost every week. class mainly consisted of going over hw problems, usually lets u out early.important to use all of his handouts when studying, and his study guide is what u really need to be focusing on, tells u close to exactly whats onthe test. bout 4 quizzes too.he does curve, u do need to study though and put time in, ull be ok
First rate instructor - makes a dry subject eventful and interesting. I had much apprehension going in, and although I didn't do particularly well in this class, I still consider him the best teacher at Cal State LA and probably the best I ever had.
AWESOME. BEST PROF EVER. I WANT TO TAKE HIS AUDITING CLASS AND COST ACCT TOO. BUT WITH HIM AND ONLY HIM. :/
Very great professor! He is one of the best professors I have ever had. I got A in his class. I expect to take his class again, the more, the better.
2nd class w/ him. basically all the previous reviews describes his class. 3 tests, weekly hw, 4 quizzes, study guide generally will let you know what type of ques. will be on the exams. Still dunno how he curves though.
Best teacher at this University!!! Took 3 classes with him and learned a lot from all of them. He makes everything very clear and simple. Definetly, worth trying to add his class on the first day.
Really a fun professor, very nice, makes the material easy and kinda cute!
One of the best prof. I had in CSULA. Cost accounting is not an easy subject, but he make the material easier to understand, he gaves study guide on both mid-term and final, brief study material on each chapter. He is very helpful and looking to take him again! Great Professor..Take him!!
AWESOME PROFESSOR. BEST TEACHER I'VE TAKEN HERE AT CSLA. HE EXPLAINS EVERYTHING IN DETAIL. HE IS AVAILABLE TO HELP YOU OUT IF NEEDED. EASY GRADER. 2 QUIZES, 1 MIDTERM, 1 15MIN GROUP PRESENTATION & 1 FINAL. ALL THE TESTS WERE FAIRLY EASY. HE MADE THE PRESENTATIONS A PIECE OF CAKE (& I HATE PRESENTATIONS) I LOVE HIM!
great teacher ever, hope to attend his clas again. got A.
great professor!!! easy class and he makes it fun! very lenient and tells you exactly what is going to be on the test, 2 quizes, 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 group project (doesnt give much direction). Hope to take more classes with him!!! Love him!
He is AWESOME...it makes schooling easier and it helped my GPA.....
This class was pretty easy. The group presentation its probably the hardest part of the class. 1 Midterm & 1 final + 20 mnt. group presentation (with a report). Don't buy the book new, it has lots of mistakes and he does not require the access code that comes with it. So, buy a used copy because you won't be able to sell it off campus.
This guy is easy but not helpful. Believe it or not, Don't take his class if you want to learn something. He teaches nothing only cover a tiny portion of the textbook. You have to read the whole textbook to understand the material.
His class is relatively easy. There are only quizzes, a midterm, and a final. NO PAPERS! Participation does not count toward your grade. If you really want to learn SQL, I suggest taking a different professor.
This class os heavy on presentations. It depends on how many people are in the class as to how many presentations there are. My quarter we had two: one group and one individual. Participation is a very important part of your grade. You need to ask questions and add to the discussion. He keeps track of how many times you speak per class.
Great professor. Reading the material is extremely important. Accounting can be tough to grasp but he tries to make it as clear as possible and answers any questions. He may put you on the spot when you ask questions but he just wants you understand .
Great professor. Replies to email quickly and helpful! As long as you read his notes and the book, you should be fine. 5 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final, and one SQL project.
Nothing neg. to say about him. Helpful, responds timely to emails. I was recommended to take him and i don't regret it one bit. One of the best acct. prof. at CSULA. may seem mean but he really want you to do well. Sends out inspirational emails before tests. Listens to you, answers questions and makes sure you learn. Not easy class but makes it
Very clear grading and guidelines. Very accessible if you need help. Makes accounting seem easy. 1 group project, but is not difficult at all. Quizes and tests easy. Homework is graded on effort. So as long as you turn it on you get credit and he goes over it so you can fix mistakes. Great class! Textbook is pricey.
By far one of the best professors of accounting at CSULA. He is very accessible if you need help. Very clear on his instructions. His tests are somewhat difficult but nothing impossible. His best phrase "are you asking me or telling me?". If you take him you will get that a lot. He really wants you to learn. Nothing to complain from him.
The best Accounting Professor in the world! He will bend over backwards for you to make sure you understand the material. He seems very scary, but he wants the best for his students! He makes you work for your grade, but I totally recommend him!
I don't see how other students say he is the best professor in accounting at CSULA. Took him for 3220 and he was the worst, too much assigned homework which was way more difficult than what was discussed in class. Take him if you wanna learn the material by yourself.
One of the best professors on campus! He goes the distance to help students succeed. His class is very engaging. Lectures were both informative and inspirational. He challenges students rather than just lecture the whole time. There's weekly online homework and 6 quizzes total to help you retain the materials. Put in the work and you'll do well.
Auditing is tough, no matter the professor you need to READ. Canevari is prepared to answer questions if you have them. Otherwise, it's a big self-learning class. He lets out class early often. Weekly quizzes, 1 Midterm & Final. Homework is simple and for easy points. HEAVY READ class. He curves as needed.
If you want someone who is inspirational, wants you to succeed, and genuinely wants you to understand the material, take Canevari. If you're only looking to get by, HE IS NOT THE PROFESSOR FOR YOU. He will push you to your absolute limit to make sure you understand his lectures and his tests are no joke, but you will learn something in his class.
He is easy in teaching but his tests are very heavy. Must read book and understand carefully. He is fair and explain things well clearly. 2 midterms, 1 final. Usually 30 MCQs and some problems for his tests. For his class, read text book carefully since his questions are very tough.
This class was like a Bootcamp! Professor expects you to know the reading material very well. He provides very limited time for the quizzes and exams. the class materials are hard.
Professor Canevari is very caring, but as nice as he is you need to put the effort into learning the material. Because the midterm and the final are no joke you need to really know the material. Otherwise youll fail.
This professor spent an entire semester literally teaching us nothing. He'd spend each class talking about how difficult the subject was and was very discouraging. I honestly don't know how he had decent ratings. That's why I fought to get into his class. But stay away, this class was a total disaster!!!
Canevari is awesome. He's great at teaching accounting and really tries to help students. He's also pretty funny. 3200A is a tough class but he does a good job setting you up for success. If you put in the work you will do well in this class.
"Are you asking me or telling me?" is one of the most popular questions asked by Professor Canevari. YES! I am telling you he is a great teacher, very knowledgeable about the subject, amazing lectures, he does actually care for our success in class and the future of our career. I enjoyed his classes so much, he is BEST accounting professor!
Canevari is an amazing and compassionate professor. He is always eager to help and has really engaging and funny lectures. He keeps things interesting but the quizzes and exams can be difficult. His exam questions are modeled off the CPA exam to help students prepare for the CPA.
Took over the summer and was a very good professor. We had weekly quizzes on the chapters and he made them not too hard and not too easy. As long as you read throughly and keep up with the homework you should be able to get a good grade in the class.
Excellent professor! He lectures very well. You must attend class, and take notes. Get ready to read and do lots of homework. He makes accounting so easy to understand.
Professor makes accounting easy to grasp. Engaging lectures, challenging assignments, and helpful online resources like unstuck study make this course worth the work. Attend class, do the readings, and you'll do well.
Professor Canevari always care for his students' success. He really wanted you to learn in his class. He's the nicest professor we met.
