Great teacher! Explains things very well and he is cute!
He does a great job explaining work always willing to help and is easy on the eyes great easygoing teacher especially if you HATE math he makes it bearable
great teacher, I hate math and yet love my class
Very helpful he gives practice tests nearly identical to the real tests and teaches at a good pace with lots of examples
I have failed math classes all through high school; It was like all my teacher's were speaking in a different language. However, when I got Mark as my math teacher, EVERYTHING JUST SEEMED TO CLICK! I was doing math that I could never do before and I left the class actually liking math. Teachers need to take lessons from him! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I hated and failed every math class that I have ever taken; however, when I got into Mark's math class, EVERYTHING JUST SEEMED TO CLICK! I mean, math is still pretty hard for me, but he helped me do math that I could never do before and I even started to like math a little! TEAHCERS NEED TO TAKE LESSONS FROM HIM!TAKE HIS CLASS OR YOU WILL BE SORRY!
He explains things very well.
Great professor. So so so nice and made stats SO easy. I would recommend him to any type of student. He makes everything so clear and the review guides are exactly like the tests, and he is helpful with whatever you need! Always posts grades right away. Best math teacher I've ever had.
He's really helpful and explains material very well. You don't need a textbook for this class because he will provide you the material every class.
Mark was a great teacher! Gives you pre-tests that are just like your exams! I would highly recommend to anyone! One of the best teachers I have had at LCC! He really wants his students to pass and succeed! Very easy class when you take it with him!
Mark Chapman is one of the great teacher I've ever had at Lansing Community College. Very professional; help students when needed it - via email and when he has office hours. Mark show different methods on how a problem equation can be solved which helps to understand math subject in general. I highly recommend it!
Mark is the best math teacher I have ever had. Extremely clear and is always willing to help. Makes the students feel comfortable asking questions and is always friendly. I took him for 107, currently I am taking 112 and will be taking STAT 170 with him as well. He passes out practice exams the class period before the exam and goes over everything.
Loved this teacher. He was great and very helpful and everything was very clear in his class. I highly recommend him! i would totally take him again
I loved Mark, what an amazing guy! I hate math and he really made it fun! Cant wait to take STATS with him next year! Just wish he let you do problems out of the book verse connect math.
Mark is a wonderful professor. I would say one of the best at LCC no matter what kind of student you are. I'm a pretty quiet student and he still managed to remember my name! He grades quickly and is very understanding if outside problems are affecting your performance in class.
Mark is one of the best professors I've ever had and also a super nice guy. In high school I almost failed my stats class but he explained everything so clearly I ended up with a 4.0 in the class! Don't buy the text book if you dont have to just buy the connect code, I didnt open the book once.
Mark is a super excellent teacher. He makes a tough subject into a walk-in-the-park class. He explains material thoroughly, his lecture is crystal clear and he simplifies the confusing language in the text book into a plain English. LOVE his Smartboard notes uploaded to D2L after every class, I don't have to worry about writing anything down.
Great professor, makes stats super easy! Lectures are brief and not mandatory. Post lecture notes online with his work. Also has a laid back personality and very easy going.
Mark is a good guy. He is great at letting you know what you are doing. He definitely repeats himself but its for better. What I liked most about his class was that he is always in the mood to help you. Cares about students doing well in his class, he doesn't want anyone to fall behind. Once in a while, he allows us to laugh at his mistakes.
If you are considering taking a different professor, don't. Mark is the best math professor LCC has to offer. He respects you as a student, is willing to help and makes the material as clear and concise as possible. HIGHLY recommended.
I don't normally leave reviews, but Prof. Chapman has earned his high rating. He is very clear with his explanations, and more than willing to give an alternative explanation if you are having trouble understanding the first one. He provides a lot of examples in class and is very accessible outside of class. He is also humble and respectful A++.
He's professor that doesn't look to single you out in class & make you answer a question, he's there to get you to learn the material in the easiest way possible with no tricks or extra work when it's not needed. He gives partial points on exams versus marking the whole problem wrong. At home online quizzes, the book is through WebAssign. Recommend
Professor Chapman is one of the best Math teachers I have ever taken at LCC! His lectures are very clear and understanding, he's funny and very laid back. He makes sure that everyone understands what's going on in the course. He gives homework quizzes on Webassign & he gives reviews for exams which are very helpful! I would recommend anyone to him!
He was great! I would absolutely take him again if I needed another math class. He was very easy on the eyes ;) was super chill and all around great!
Professor Chapman is one of the nicest professors I have ever met! He is friendly and always willing to answer your questions. He did not require homework, but you could use them to study. He did have homework quizzes and tests, but they are easy if you prepare. I have no complaints! I look forward to taking him again in the future!
He was a good professor. He was always there when I needed him and he explained things thoroughly. You won't be disappointed with him. It's not the hardest class and it's not the easiest but he makes it a lot better.
Would take again. Great guy that will slow down and make sure you understand. Used the smart board and posted lecture notes online from previous classes. Very helpful.
Mark is a super cool guy. He always stays positive in his classes and genuinely cares about the well being of his students. I enjoyed every single time I was in his class. However, be aware that the final exam (for MATH121) was harder than any of the tests he gave. Make sure you really learn how to apply the material, and you'll be just fine.
I took math 121 with Mr. Chapman, if you are expecting extra credit or lots of hw to make up your grade, this is not for you. This class was basically graded based on 4 test and a huge final. He is a wonderful professor and explains everything as well he is willing to help you. I just thought the final was extremely difficult - messed up my grade.
I really liked this teacher! Everyday he would give us practice problems he would do on the smart board and post them online for anybody that missed. Always had practice tests before the exam that were a lot alike the exams!
He was a great teacher that by the end you are done with class you know how to do all of your homework.
Good professor. Very easy going. Homework is not required and his tests are extremely easy, but he does not prepare you for final or the next course. Even though I got a 4.0 in his class, I ended up retaking it after nearly failing calc 1. The 2nd prof covered everything and the final which was almost identical to the last time was very easy.
Very frustrating because he does not fully explain how he comes to an answer and how he got there but breaks down the most simple things like four plus four. Very sarcastic when students would ask questions. Assumes everyone knows how to do precalc and FLIES through everything. Didnt explain how to use webassign which had all our homework on it.
Very thorough. Makes complex mathematics simple. He truly loves his job, and takes the time to ask every couple minutes "does this make sense to everyone?" Very logical, and very clear and concise. Would definitely take again, and I believe I will once I get to MATH 151.
Very friendly and explains things pretty well, but doesn't really teach you anything. His tests are extremely easy and he doesn't make you do homework, which I thought was cool until I failed calc and had to go back and retake mth121 even though I received a 4.0 from him.
Mark is a great professor, however his teaching style is quite different. I highly suggest that you ask questions if you do not understand something because if not he will move on quickly. DO NOT PURCHASE THE HOMEWORK ACCESS CODE. You get a free two week trail use the final two weeks saves you $100. Tests are relatively easy, exam was moredifficul
Such a great professor in my opinion! I had him for an 8am and he kept me entertained and he is very lively and helpful. I also loveeee the way he teaches by handing out a single handout every class with everything we go over. He prepares you so well for the tests and there is very minimal homework. I would recommend him!
I personally did not like taking this class. I always got a 4.0 in my other math classes, but not with this one. I did not understand his teaching whatsoever, and that's what made it so difficult. i ask many questions but his teaching still didn't work for me.
If you have questions ask because he moves on quick. You have to do extra studying but test are easier.
Nice guy. Lectures can be interesting, but does not teach you much of anything. His regular exams are very easy, but he left us very unprepared for the final. My and 5 other students have always gotten 4.0 in all or our math courses and we allfailed the final. Don't take if you need to learn this stuff for future classes. Gives very short tests
Very easygoing guy. Gave trivial exams and HW was not required. Only had a few questions on the quizzes that were just like examples in class. Final was much more difficult that the rest of the tests -- it was like the HW all of my friends in other sections did, so they were prepared. I failed calc and had to retake the class because its too easy
Horrible
Explains big ideas well, but does not have you practice what really matters, so you will fail the final and be very unprepared for calc. I wish he would have required the homework so I would not have to retake this course. I passed because his regular tests were so easy, but I failed calc twice and had to go back and retake it at MSU. :-(
Was horrible for mth121 -- just talks about the big idea. I got a 3.5, but was so unprepared for calc. His tests are extremely easy and lets you take the quizzes un proctored online with many tries. I wish he required homework like the other profs do so I would not be failing calc now. He was great for stt170. He should stick to teaching stat!
Mark Chapman was a good professor for Pre-calculus 1. Although, the class did not seem completely focused on preparing us for calculus. I have never been good at math and struggled in this class. Felt good about the information only to fail a few tests; Mark is a helpful grader though. Attendance is only required on review days for points.
Charismatic and genuine, Mark grips the student through engaging with the subject matter from a broad array of learning styles. Calculus, which I've typically struggled with, came intuitively under Mark's instruction.
SO AMAZING. Mark is funny, energetic, and tries his best to make sure that everyone does good. His lectures are not boring, even if you find statistics to be. Study guides are literally the same as the exams, but with different numbers. Also, you get a FULL sheet of notes for the 3 exams, and the final. It would be pretty hard to fail this class.
Mark is funny and definitely made our class laugh at his silly remarks. The class is composed of 4 exams, 8 homework quizzes, and final. I felt like he taught the material well, but the final was not written by him so it threw me for a loop. He will answer any questions you have in class. I really enjoyed the class with Mark and would take it again
Mark is honestly a great professor and I would recommend him x10000! There's very minimal homework, like hardly every homework and this class is very easy to pass if you make sure you know the material!
You need to do the homework! It is not mandatory but it is very hard to learn everything you need to in 4 hours a week. Take some time at home to do the online homework. It even teaches you how to do it.
One of the best math professors at LCC. Tests are near identical to the test reviews. Very generous with partial credit.
Mark is a very good professor! I breezed through Calc 1 with his teaching style. I wish he would teacher higher level courses!! Utilizing my SIs office hours concreted the material for me.
He likes to talk big picture and makes the class really easy. He doesn't require HW and gives lots of EC, but you won't learn anything. I loved it until I failed calc. You really need to do all HW in order to learn the material. I retook mth121 this semester with someone else and really learned the material. I cannot believe how much I missed
Likes to make jokes! He works all the test questions in class, so the class is really easy. He is kinds of lazy and doesn't really want to help students. A little rude when you come to office hours for help. There is no HW and the class is easy, but most people failed the final because we were very unprepared. I feel very unprepared for calc.
Mark is THE best math teacher I have ever had at LCC. His lecture style helped me immensely, and he makes it very clear what you need to know. The reviews are very similar to the tests as well. I wish he taught higher math courses. I also took MATH 121 with him. He is amazing and I highly recommend!
best stats professor yet! knows what he is teaching 10/10 recommend taking him, if you want an easy A
Mark is a very friendly professor who was very helpful and accessible outside of class. He made sure your questions were answered by breaking down the notes, tests, or homework. If you start struggling in the class, meet up with him sooner than later. He is a wonderful teacher.
He is a nice guy. Very laid back and extremely easy class. I thought it was great until I got to calc and realized how much I missed. I retook the course with a different prof and was amazed at the difference. If you just want an easy grade, but don't want to learn take him. If you need to know the stuff take someone else.
I had mark for both stt170 and mth121. He was awesome at teaching stat. He is laid back and funny. Although he was very easy, he was a horrible mth121 instructor. Our class did not learn much of anything and the whole class was unprepared for the final. Many of my classmates really struggled in calc and several had to go back and retake mth121.
Mark is a great person- his lectures are like a discussion about the topics. HW doesn't require HW and gives VERY easy tests. You won't learn much and will be very unprepared for calc. I thought I was prepared but once I got to calc I had to retake mth121 to learn the algebra. Wow I cannot believe how much I much he left out of the course.
If you're not good at math, I would not take Math 121 with him. He is difficult to follow, and you can't really ask questions in class. The only possible points in this class are through your exams and a few quizzes, so my grade was very low because I'm not a good test taker when it comes to math. This class has proven to be very difficult.
Worse professor I ever had. spends time going over the concepts, but gives no practice work& gives only a few very easy examples in class. His tests are very easy- basically the same questions he does in class, but you won't really learn anything. I failed calculus and had to retake this course at MSU. It is an easy A if you don't need to go on.
This has got to be the worse prof ever had. I got an easy A, but did not learn a thing. I am not sure if he really knows the content. He will talk about the general concepts, and gives trivial test questions just like his examples, but you won't learn much. He doesn't require hw. I came to his office hours and he did not know how to do it.
He is a very nice prof and likes to joke around BUT his ways of explaining things and teaching did not work well for me at all. its more like reviewing instead of teaching. You never really learn the core material because he is so focused on just oversimplifying the concept, you don't know how to use it. He is sometimes is rude when asked question
I had him for both stats and precalc. He was awesome at teaching stats, but a horrible precalc prof. I did not learn anything. His explanations are not clear and he is annoyed when students ask him questions. I am not sure he really knows the material himself. . . He should stick with teaching stats. I know I won't be ready for calc.
He is good looking, but a bit arrogent. Doesn't really teach you much. Just talks all hour. His class is very easy, but you won't learn much. Doesn't explain things well and gets mad at you when you ask questions. I think he makes the class so easy because he doesn't know how to do the harder problems. Several of my fds who had him had to retak
His lectures are very unorganized -- just talks and doesn't really explain why or how things work. Gets frustrated when someone asks ? in class. He doesn't give HW and tests are very easy, so if you just want a grade, he is ok. I know I am not prepared for calc, so I will retake this course again next semester with someone else.
He is a very easy professor, but doesn't really teach you anything. He has a "little discussion" and does a few easy examples instead of lecturing. He is not very organizes and struggles to explain things if you did not get it the first time. I feel very unprepared compared to friends in other sections. I am concerned I won't do well in calc.
I had him for both stt and 121. He was a good teacher for stt, but horrible for mth121. He only covered simple examples in class and struggled to explain the more difficult problems. He would get mad if asked. Homework is not required, but I know I could not do most of it if I needed to. I am retaking with someone else to prepare me for calc.
Your entire grade is based on the qz & exams and he doesn't give any credit for homework. Tests are easy, but no-one is learning much. Most of us don't have a clue how to do the majority of problems on the dept final rev. I have heard only his 4.0 students pass the final. I am scared - all my friends who him failed calc. I know I'm not ready.
doesn't ever explain the concepts. Only gives a few easy examples in class and expects you to just get it. I have no idea how to do the algebra. When I asked him in class he tried and got it wrong and then got mad at me for asking. tests are easy and gives lots of partial credit - (i got 8/10 for just recopying the question to fill the space!).
Most of class consists of taking notes as he walks you through the material. It is not particular interesting, but if you pay attention, you will pass the class easily. Its a good introduction to statistics, and I would recommend Mark to anyone who is new to the subject. Hes a nice guy, flexible, and understanding.
Class is pretty bland and test are very easy. If you want an easy grade, take him. If you want to learn the material well I would suggest taking another prof. He doesn't teach in depth just skims over basic easy topics. I was not prepare for the final exam given by the dept. Homework Is optional and heavy for only being worth 50 points overall.
I had Mark for calculus, I'm not the best at math but I still passed the class with a high gpa. The lecture time in class can be pretty fast because he has to get through a lot of material, but he is very willing to help you if you were confused either after class or during office hours. He is overall a chill dude that just wants to help you learn!
This professor is not the greatest math teacher but he is the best. He taught what he was suppose to teach and all the tests complement with what he taught in class. Many people in the comments say the final exam is nothing that he taught, WRONG!!! study your past exams/tests and you will be okay. this class consist 8 quizzes and 4 tests no hw requ
Good teacher. He explains everything, even goes over basic things that we already know, but that is useful when the math gets harder.
Loved his class. Come to class, complete the worksheet/notes, and you will learn everything you need to know. Gets a little tricky if you skip class, but he uploads notes online. No group work or participation, just come, learn, and leave. Great class, great teacher.
He's very thorough in explaining the subjects matter. Easy to confront with questions & answers questions clearly. Every couple weeks there are two quizzes due together, homework is optional. All lectures are posted on D2l if you miss class, including the problems are worked out. Tests are every two or so weeks, almost always reflect study guide.
I loved Mark's Intro to stats class. He explains things really well and he has no problem helping people out. On tests you're allowed a cheat sheet (including on the final). All of the work is basically done on a calculator. All the quizzes are take home. Just a very easy class to take.
Would definitely recommend. 10/10 best teacher I've ever had. Just show up, learn the lesson, come to review day, which prepares you VERY WELL for the test. There is no reason you shouldn't pass. He makes the lessons easy to digest. Would recommend not saving the homework till the end.
If you participate aka keep up with the notes and lectures, there is no reason to not get a 4.0 in the class. The tests account for most of your grade, however youre given a note sheet for each exam, which if used wisely can be a life saver.
Show up and you'll pass. He is very clear on what he expects of you, and the lectures are super easy.
Wow Mark is the literal best, cheat sheets on the 3 exams in the class and on the final! No extra credit, hw is on mystatlab so you dont need the book just the access code, he is soooo nice and peppy he loves his job and I feel bad cuz no one matches his energy and that upsets him :( hes so freaking nice and keeps you awake during an 8am GREATGUY
Mark is very knowledgeable and can answer almost any question. While he lectures for the full class, he is funny and creates breaks. He is very active while he lectures. Mark doesn't believe in extra credit, but I didn't need it to earn a high grade. He cares about his students and connects the subject to reality.
Was an awesome professor! He is very understanding and teaches the material well. He sticks to the schedule so that you always know what you will be doing in class. I would recommend this professor to anyone!
I took Pre-Calculus and had to drop it because I am just not good at math (my own fault). So, I'm going to take Algebra instead and when I do, I PRAY that I will be able to take him again. He makes math enjoyable in a way that I did not think was possible. He is clear and fair and I wish all teachers were like him. Math sucks, but he's a gem.
Online lectures were solid and specific, practice tests were useful and homework was relevant but NOT overloaded. This was one of the smoothest online classes I've had. He is very prompt with email responses and wants you to understand the material. If you take his class for summer semester, you'd better buckle up because he does not slow down
I took a full online stat 170. It was a very difficult topic, and while sometimes the lecture didnt match the homework he was responsive. Not an easy class to take online, i definitely prefer in person. His online lectures were pretty thorough though.
Easy and well-paced class. His lectures are detailed and can help you understand the lecture well. Response to emails quickly. Homework and test are in MyStatLab, which I hated. But all the homework is due at the end of the semester. And there is only one really easy, two-part, project that just highlights main topics. Overall an amazing class.
I had Mr. Chapman through an online course and I was extremely happy with how the semester went. He was very thorough and clear throughout the online video lessons along with what was expected of you as a student. He kept the lessons entertaining, and always responds within 24 hours if you have a question. I definitely will take him again if I can!
I really enjoyed Mr. Chapman's class. Fast communication. Textbook was provided with MyMathLab access. There were about 2-3 assignments every week. 4 tests plus the final exam. Homework is done at your own pace but I highly recommend sticking to his suggested outline. If you take good notes during lectures and do the test reviews, you will pass!
I really liked Mr Chapman!! You have four tests for the semester, a homework assignment after each lecture (not graded until end of the semester) and then two projects and the final exam. He is very in depth with his explanations and willing to help when needed.
- Thoroughly explains the material and will explain it in different ways so all students understand - Has extra worksheets and videos available on the course D2L - Lots of homework, but he leaves it open until the end of the semester for students to complete - Supportive of students and is not strict with grading -Good communication
Mark is a great professor with lots of energy and and obvious passion for teaching math. The lectures can get long, but he makes sure everyone understands the material and always answers questions when needed. He is an easy grader and gives a lot of leeway as long as you show your work.
Mark is the only professor that has actually been able to make algebra click for me. 1000% recommended if you struggle with math.
Mark was a great math teacher. If you miss class or don't want to show up he has videos online that you can watch. Mark also sends the board of the material that we worked on in class to us in D2L after every class. He will work with you if you need more time for a test or need to take it early. He allows notes on the tests.
Mark is an amazing guy! He cares about his students and has clear grading criteria. This is the best I've ever done in a math class and it really is all thanks to him. The homework is all online and he gives you full credit as long as you attempt every problem.
Amazing professor for statistics. He is passionate, caring, and makes class enjoyable. Exams are straightforward and his lecture outlines are fantastic. I would highly recommend taking any of his courses.
If you suck at math this class is for you. He lets you take home quizzes, the homework is not due until the semester ends. But you should do it as class moves on.
He is an amazing professor who answers all of your questions until you can fully understand the topic. He teaches with such a passion and is a very forgiving grader on tests. As long as you attempt the homework/practice final you get 100%. On tests, he allows you to make note sheets so make sure you utilize that!
Mr. Chapman is an amazing teacher! He is always there to help with any questions you may have. He explains the material very well. As long as you stay on top of the homework and with tests this class is a breeze. Would definitely recommend Mark Chapman and take one of his classes again!
His class is super laid back and straightforward. As long as you keep up with the homework and other things, you'll fly through! I will say sometimes he does talk quite fast, but he makes sure to leave time for questions or clarifications! Quiz's are take home, 3 Unit Tests, and 1 Final! It's all super easy if you pay attention!
super nice! Attend the lectures and ask questions if needed.
I took his class in my first year at LCC, and it was a great experience. He's very helpful, explains everything in depth, and even allows a note sheet for tests. His class is super easy, and I practically aced every exam. Highly recommend!
This class was online and easy as cake. Mark made all of the notes and reviews very applicable to the tests. 10/10 class, you know what's coming in this class.
Enthusiastic in his lessons, he will give you full credit if you attempt homework, regardless if fully completed or correct. Let you bring one sheet of paper for all of his exams. Course taken Fall 2023 semester
