the man is insane, performs experiments in class, entertaining
Intresting man. Puts all his notes up to on the web. Grades to the advantage of the student. Broke a cinderblock on his chest while lying on a bed of nails.
Wants students to pass...If you try and show up to exams you'll pass...great teacher...
Tries hard to prove things (suicidal experiments.) He's the reason why I love physics (used to hate it.) Awesome guy, but sometimes it seems like he doesn't give a **** during office hours. Could be stress. Great lecturing. Very fair grading. Recommended.
Amazing professor. Class was actually interesting to go to. teaches things practically and orally. Highly recommend to anyone.
Professor Croft is a great professor. Not only is he nice, but he is very understanding. If you do bad on your exam, he'll do anything to bring your grade up. He once told us that he does not teach Physics to make everyone fail. I RECOMMEND YOU TAKE HIM
I liked physics, he made me love it. Awesome lectures, great teacher. I failed the first exam, he let me retake it, averaged to a B. The more you put in, the better you'll do. He's willing to help you as long as you ask for help, very unusual.
his lectures are worthless but he does provide a lot of material so you can do well on your own if you chose to
An amazing professor. First time I saw a professor from a science department who would actually understand you and bring your grade up.
The Best! The first professor I had in last two years at rutgers, who actually seems to see the student's point of view on grading matter.
THE BEST for physics. Do not take another physics teacher. Lecture is very interesting, prof. Croft is funny, helpful, easy, and very considerate. Curved and graded very nicely. NO ONE FAILS if you put forth an honest effort... only problem is Labs suck and not the best T/As, but Croft is still best
This guy is the model teacher. All teachers at Rutgers should learn from him. He genuinely cares about the students and understands the beurocrocy at Rutgers. He tries to help evey student in every way. Take this course if you like to do well and learn usuable physics.
Nice guy! You have no excuse to fail. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. His lectures are interesting, but not really helpful. But if you read the book and do homework (ie make an honest effort), you'll probably get an A.
Quite an entertaining professor. Always willing to help out his students. If you make the effort to talk with him, he'll make an effort to give you a better grade. He's crazy!!!
he is funny. caring. interesting. he does lots of dangerous simulations for students. i juss hope that he doesn't hurt himself in the future. he really cares about students. he is just a perfect professor. every professor should learn from croft. croft ROCKS !!
Every prof should be like him. Then I would love Rutgers. I went to him with a C on my exam and left with a B!

hes a funny teacher! you dont need to go to class to get a good grade but hes a good teacher so you can if you want to. definately go to see him after you take your exams because he gives you points!!
Hilarious guy, makes most lectures fun, as fun as physics can be... really understanding and helpful, lets you bring a study sheet to exams, great guy, great teacher!
i love this man...
VERY HELPFUL professor. If you do badly on the exams, all you have to do is go to office hrs and explain to him how you tried to work the problem, and he will almost def raise your grade. Lectures are fun, but not too helpful. Do all the HW problems and you should be fine.
he's very funny and helpful. exams are pretty much from his notes..u really dont have to go to class cuz his notes are posted online and the book is pretty helpful too. fair grader. exams get more n more difficult but the curve is huge. jus do the home work, practice the problems. study his notes n u'll do fine.

Good guy, good experiments, token wacky scientist
Great guy. Complete science guy dork, so nice! Exams are really easy if you read the book and review the notes. Most of his exam problems are straight from example problems in his notes.
easiest class ive taken at rutgers so far. he strives to give everyone the best grade possible. where else is a 25% a passing grade? only with croft. take him no matter what, you wont regret it. definitely the easiest science class at rutgers.
Not clear, but an extraordinarily generous grader
Kept lecture interesting with demos. crazy kind of guy with a dry humor. if he says 'this is important' it will be on the test. takes most of exams from lecture notes. will do anything to help you pass
Lectures really have nothing to do with anything besides watching him attempt dangerous experiments, exams are tough if you don't do homework and keep up with the chapters, but nice curves on exams and gives you an opportunity to raise the grade if you visit him and go over your test
Not the best lecturer, but definteily the most entertaining-putting liquid nitrogen in the mouth is definiteing not a moment to snore at. Exams are obscure and require a total comprehension of concepts covered to answer a given question.-Quizzing each week keeps you on track, though. Gives curves very generously.
Probably one of the best professor in RU. Willing to help students. His exams are combination of multiple choice and open ended. if you show ur work u get partial credit on a multiple choice exams. Gives huge curves. His lectures are fun to watch. it's like watching Nascar, you only want to see crashes. No injuries this time though.
Sure he's a generous grader and sure he does "zany" experiments, but overall, he's just a bad teacher. His notes are illegible and you will not learn anything in class. You will have to read the book to learn anything in that class. He might be helpful if you go to office hours ... but great professors make sure that you understand the material.
Very helpful and knowledgeable. His demonstrations make lecture interesting.
He's really nice! he'll help you out with anything and he'll make you like physics even if you hate it!... :)
The most generous grader at RU. Easy exams straight from the notes. Going to lectures is not mandatory but if you go he will make it worthwhile. I believe other science departments should learn from this guy!
I haven't had an exam yet, but I don't understand why everyone likes him so much. Sure he does wacky demos and everything, but his notes are impossible to follow and class is a waste of time.
..he is the nicest man ever!! God bless him!!! I wish more Rutgers professors were like him.Very helpful..he wants everybody to get a good grade...the exams aren't bad at all..if you study, you'll do well..plus he lets you to come to his office to go over exams and gives extra points!!! Loved him!! Awsome man!!! physics is fun with him!!!! :o)))
Great professor. I loved his experiments in class. Also he's extremely helpful and he's always willing to answer questions. One of the nicest professors around.
This guy is awesome! His exams aren't easy, but they are very straightforward. He will not try to trick you like some professors do---if you study, you will do well on them. I HATED physics in high school and although it still isn't my favorite class, Croft definitely made it a positive experience. Take him!
This guy is honestly the most fair science dept professor ever. The exams are tough, but the curve is generous. I by no means passed any of the exams and still ended up w a B for the class. He allows u to talk to him about ur exams, and if u show work and stuff he gives u points back.. definitely worth taking it with him
Professor Croft clearly cares for his students. However, there's a reason that the physics lecture hall completely fills up in the first week, and literally empties to less than 35% capacity after the first week. His lecture notes are simply illegible and his examples too fast to follow. Class seems worthwhile only for students who have read ahead.
Great professor! He doesn't require attendance but going to his lectures are fun. It doesn't help as much as I wanted it to so make sure you go to recitation. The exams are fairly easy if you understand the basics.
Prof. Croft is a sweet man and cares about his students, but his lecture is a waste of time. I went in the middle of the semester adn only the first 3 rows were filled his notes are impossible to follow. Just read the book and hope that you understand but go back to him after exams to get points back it really helps and go to recitation.
I had him for 203 and 204. I was really nervous about these courses since I don't like physics very much and I find it challenging. Croft is by far the most generous, caring, and all around pleasant professor you can have. Very nice curve and the chance to get exam points back. Lectures can be so-so, but you'd be a fool not to take him if you could
Prof Croft's notes are really hard to read, so instead of printing them out and barely listening, take your own off his notes. His experiments almost always end up on exams. The problems he goes over in class, are also regularly put on exams.
Just a warning. at first the class seems easy. all lecture slides are online. no lecture quizzes and book that's ACTUALLY helpful. however, DEFINITELY GO TO CLASS. I thought i could get away with it but his slides are confusing if he isnt explaining it to you. definitely an easy B if you go to class. just dont make the mistake most others make.
Do not listen to other people below lol... His notes are confusing? You kidding? Almost every single question on the exam is based on the notes.. Yes, you need to read the book on your own to understand the notes. What's the big deal? Skim through the textbook and read his notes - Easy A... if you cant get an A in this course, dont major in science
Extremely disorganized notes and formula sheets. Exam questions are unnecessarily difficult. You should know that you have less than 9% to guess something correctly since he's going to give you more than 11 multiple choices. However, VERY VERY generous curves (average is B), but felt like I was bullied by his questions. A nice guy nonetheless.
Well about lecture notes I cant say much, since I never looked at any,his class is not really helpful, kind boring actually. It doesnt help that Im sleepy at night. What is nice is that he is always trying to get your attention with his crazy experiments.Exams are not that hard if you know your stuff, and the curve is ice.he doesnt give pts back anymor
Easy. lecture not needed.
Croft is a very nice guy. He's respectful of everyone and not in the least bit condescending. If you have even a small interest in the class material prior to taking the course, you will enjoy the class. That said, you need to have read about the topic for lecture BEFORE lecture, otherwise you will just be confused.
best way to take physics at rutgers. average is set to a B. helps alot. always willing to help after class. class not mandatory. read the book for a basic understanding and memorize/really study the slides. the problems in the slides are what the questions are based on for both 203/204 exams. easy B/B+ if you start studying about 4 days before.
Phys 2 is harder than phys 1, a lot!he is very unclear sometimes. must go to class for the last 1/3 of classes, I studied the book a lot, but in the final exam there was some material that was not in the book and that he explained in class only.
I would not recommend this professor. He's a nice guy, but his teaching style is poor. All I know about Physics II came from reading the textbook, and his exams have ~10 answers to each multiple choice question. I had Brahmia for Physics I, and I totally recommend taking him instead.
All around great guy. Very helpful, nice, and he's pretty funny too. I got through the class without the text book, he puts sufficient homework problems online. I would highly recommend taking a class with Professor Croft, he was awesome!
Honestly, this guy is a HORRIBLE teacher BUT the class is very easy to get through. His curves are amazing because he sets the average of the class to the lowest B so its easy to get a B. But he's a terrible professor in terms of explaining stuff, even though he's a nice guy. Exams are 15 questions, 9 MC OPTIONS! so its impossible to guess.goodcurv
Honestly it depends on you. I can't comprehend his notes, I spend nearly hours reading them. His average is good for both exams but they're hard if you don't know what he's talking about. I wish I read the chapters before his lectures, maybe it would've helped a bit.
His class is super super easy. His slides and notes are really unclear though and he isn't a very good teacher but if you go to lecture he tells you exactly what will be on the exam. His curve is really easy too. Basically, his exams are cake but you have to teach yourself most of the material. Super nice person.
Go to class. Even though it isnt mandatory a lot of the things he goes over in lecture are exactly whats on the exam. The book does elaborate on a lot of concepts so I do recommend buying it but your number one study guide should be the powerpoints. Exam has about 10 multiple choice so you cant guess. I got a B+ and studied the day before.
if its not in the lecture it wont be on the exam. Exams were extremely hard because of the way he worded the questions but no need to worry , the curve will help you tremendously. He starts the average at a B instead of a C which gives you a better chance at passing with a higher grade. Class was fun because he did experiments.
I took him for 203 and 204. He is hands down the best professor of physics at rutgers. Classes are not mandatory but study the slides for exact problems on exam. GO TO CLASS. Huge curve. 75 was A. MC exams with 10 choices. a. 0<x<10 b. 11<x<20 etc. Study 3 days before and you'll be fine.
A very nice and helpful professor. His lectures are pretty boring but go to class because he goes through the powerpoints in class which is what the exams are based off. Huge curve for each exam as well.
Most straightforward physics professor. Tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams. His notes are unorganized, but GO TO LECTURE so you can make sense of them and find out what's important and what's not. The book is useless since practice problems, along with the solutions, are posted online. DOES FUN EXPERIMENTS IN CLASS TOO!
If you go to all of the lectures he tells you what will be on the exams. You don't need to know what he's talking about, just realize when he says something like 'this is fair game for an exam,' then practice that concept from the book because it will be on the exam. It's an easy A if you attend lectures and do the homework.
croft is the man! best physics professor at RU. exams come directly from powerpoints.. go to lecture and he'll literally say whats on the exams.. book not needed. take him!
You don't really need the textbook for this class. Prof Croft tests you on what he says in lecture and from his lecture notes. Know how to use the formulas from the homework he posts. He gives you a formula sheet, but it falls more on the basic side. (There are some harder formulas you might need to memorize) Do-able B if you try some.
I will have Croft next Wednesday. I already have one thing to say about him and his online lecture notes. His notes are so confusing to follow along with because there is no logical step-by-step procedure. It's like that the lectures are written by a 3-year old. I wonder how this dude even got good ratings.
Croft is a poor lecturer. His notes are theoretical. He also does useless demonstrations in class. In addition, the recitation quizzes are really difficult and brought my grade down. Stop it with the quizzes and give us a break. Take Brahmia or Gentile instead if you do not want your GPA to suffer. He should retire already.
Croft has a research lab, which is why his quizzes are difficult. In the pulley problem, he wants you to prove the acceleration formula. No proof, no credit. In the skateboard problem, several variables that were used to find energy and velocity were missing. He should teach Mechanics 382 instead of Physics 203. Leave the job to Brahmia.
I took Croft and did not do that well for two reasons. First his lectures are incomprehensible. Second his recitation quizzes and exams were very difficult. He should give easier quizzes and exams.
This class is difficult because his lecture notes are incomprehensible. His problems are too hard to even attempt. He should be teaching Mechanics instead of AP Physics B.
Croft is a top notch researcher who has undergrads, grads, and post docs in his research lab. Therefore, he has high expectations. He believes that we are physicists who is able to derive anything. Unfortunately, we are only novices in Physics who has to take this basic class in order to fulfill a requirement.
A postdoc must have written the quizzes for him since they are pretty difficult.
If you have Croft for Physics, I suggest that you study from the textbook since his lecture notes are really confusing to follow along with. Even though the textbook is not the best, it is still your best friend in this course.
Croft is not clear on the material that is going to be on the exam. Most students do not expect to see those types of questions in a basic physics course. Therefore, It is normal to receive a bizarre score like a 5 out of 15 on his exams. Maybe a postdoc wrote the exams for him.
He is a great guy and does entertaining experiments in class. However, he is not organized in his lectures. Notes are tough to follow so I recommend using the textbook. Exams are difficult ad not written fairly. Also recitation quizzes are supposed to help your grade but they don't. They do not totally correspond with the hw and are poorly written.
Even though I am not good at Physics, Croft makes Physics 100000000X more difficult and annoying than usual with his exams and quizzes. Avoid him if you can.
The questions on his exams are not worded that clearly, which makes it difficult to understand what he is asking for. In addition, there are 10-13 choices for each question on his exams, which makes guessing really difficult.
Croft's notes are difficult to comprehend. I recommend using the textbook if you want to pass the course and move on. There is no need for needless suffering.
Croft creates unnecessary stress through his difficult quizzes and exams and unclear slides. I recommend withdrawing from the class. Take it another time or at a community college during the summer. His demos are not worth watching just for the stress. Croft is technically the Boikess of Physics.
Even though Croft may be hilarious and entertaining through his demos, his teaching is inadequate. His notes are just arrows and equations. In addition, Croft just reads off his slides and changes it once he's done. There is no time to copy everything on his slides.
Exams are difficult. If you want to get a good grade, study two weeks beforehand. Always rely on the textbook since lecture notes are difficult to interpret.
Croft does not take phonophobia and globophobia into consideration. He explodes something in every lecture. Once he popped helium and hydrogen balloons. The other day he permitted students to step on the helium balloons that he filled with dry ice causing the balloons to pop with a loud noise. In the last lecture, he shot and exploded a can.
Study for this class 2 weeks before exams and should be fine. The curve is very generous. I got a 40 on the first exam (C), an 87 on the second (A) and a 81 on the final (A). My quiz average was a 73. I ended up with a B+ in the class. Brahmia is the far better option, but Croft is the easier grade.
His class seems like a joke, when it comes to the tests they are impossible. But an A is doable if you study. He is very responsive to questions and for extra help.
Along with York, Taylor, and Uhrich, Croft is one of the few PIs that teaches a lower-level course today (excluding seminars, honors, advanced status, pharmacy, astronomy, and Analytical Physics). With that being said, his exams equilibrate to graduate-level. He should make easier exams that are on par with the class since most people are novices.
Exams and quizzes are beyond basic physics since the questions that are asked are based on abstract theory and does not match what is taught in lecture. Some of the questions on his exams and quizzes are also based on the research that he does in his lab. Should be teaching Electrostatics 385 instead of General Physics 204 or AP Physics B.
General Physics or AP Physics B means an intro to concepts such as mechanics, electrostatics, optics, and modern physics. Croft's quizzes and exams are a poor indicator of this since the questions are rigorous are at a graduate level. Should make the quizzes and exams more on par with the class. Even some high school students take this class.
The first quiz did not make a good impression. The first question might be fair, but the second question was difficult and abstract that only Physics majors know how to solve.
Steer clear of this course. It is not an easy A or easy to pass. Quizzes contain all abstract questions and TAs are strict in grading those quizzes. Exams are difficult to understand and calculations are based on abstract theory rather than concepts. Greenblatt probably contributed with him before designing the recitation quizzes and exams.
This class is terrible. Exams and quizzes are beyond the scope of basic Physics. Formula sheet doesn't apply to the questions on the exams and quizzes. Your whole grade is based off of those quizzes and exams. Believes that this is the only class we are taking. I have other classes to study for.
Exams and quizzes require abstract thinking instead of formula manipulation.
His quizzes are too long and hard to even attempt. If you want to save your GPA, I recommend pulling an all-nighter before each quiz. I had other things to do so I failed the first quiz, which was beyond the level of the textbook. Even studying the textbook is not that great since his quizzes are like 300- or 400-level material.
This class may not be that difficult at first, but wait until the quizzes and exams. The quizzes and exams do not correlate well with the concepts covered in lecture. Also has difficulty in explaining concepts to students so you have to rely on the book.
Exams are difficult and require hours of studying. Even then it is highly unlikely to pass with an A or B since the questions come from the left field. None of the questions are similar to the lecture notes or practice problems for the textbook. Most of the questions are abstract with 10 or more options. Be prepared for a C or below.
Exams are difficult. The formula sheet that he gives you during the exam does not apply to any question. Some of the questions are concepts that was not covered in class and has no definite answer. Spent 20 minutes on one of the questions and got no answer. Probably have to use calculus to solve the problems on the exams.
Croft's exams are graduate level and written by a postdoc. Do not be alarmed when you score below a 50. Simply withdraw. I do not understand how the average is in the 60's when most people fail the exams. Probably the people who are only good at Physics score in the 90's and destroy the curve.
Croft needs to reevaluate his teaching methods. Slides are not that organized making the lectures useless and difficult to comprehend. Exams should only have 5 options for each question instead of 10-15 options. Should also release practice exams instead of just textbook problems since they don't correlate to the exam. Also useless in general.
Exams require abstract thinking rather than computations such as solving for a variable using one or more formula. Lecture notes are not that straight and scattered. Textbook does not help that much when studying since none of the concepts are in the textbook.
This man has the ability to generate the hardest questions for a basic Physics exam. Questions do not correlate well with the textbook, lectures, and recitations. Also no practice exams besides the textbook, which does not appear on the exam. Should generate questions similar to the questions in the textbook since there are no other resources.
This class is tough and requires hours of studying. It's difficult to tell what concepts will be on the exam since there is not enough resources to practice from. The problems in the textbook are basic compared to the questions on his exams. Strongly recommend to take this course in the summer if you will never use Physics again in life.
This class is a nightmare. Exams and quizzes are difficult and beyond the scope of the course. Exams and quizzes also do not correlate well with the lecture and the textbook.
This class is terrible and difficult. Exams and quizzes are difficult and intended for graduate students. Even Orgo is easier than this course.
This course is irrelevant and takes away people's interest for applying to med school due to the challenging hourly exams. Exams are harder than Orgo since there is no way to study for it.
Exams are difficult for the level of this class. Spent many hours studying for the first exam and knew what I was doing, but somehow failed it since none of the material on the exam was covered in the textbook. Lectures are also pointless since Croft does not explain concepts clearly and none of those concepts are on the exam.
If you want a good GPA, do not take this course. Makes the course more difficult than usual. Questions on the exams are designed for Physics majors. Most of the calculation questions require an extensive knowledge of Calculus 1 and 2 (probably Calculus 3 and Linear Algebra). Half the exam are also theoretical and based on abstract theory.
Thought that I knew the concepts well for today's quiz, but the quiz was still difficult. All the questions were from the left field. Pretty sure that I did not pass since Croft made sure that the TAs ask questions that covered concepts that students never saw before.
This class is intense and difficult. Most of the questions on the exams and quizzes are theoretical. Even though there are some computational questions, those questions require an in-depth knowledge of Linear Algebra. Lectures are confusing and not worded that clearly. Textbook is not at the rigor of this course.
ALL OF THESE PEOPLE GIVING CROFT A 1 ARE LIARS!! don't believe it! Croft is not the best lecture but his exams are very easy and FAIR! All you have to do s do the hw problems and you will be JUST fine. I literally started doing all of hw 4 days prior to the exam and got a B+ which he curved to a high A. Oh yeah he sets the average to a B!.
I agree that exams and quizzes are not easy, but difficult. None of the topics on the exams or quizzes are covered in lecture or the textbook. Lecture and textbook problems are easier than the actual exam. Had to use Calculus once to solve a problem. Even Calc 151 and Orgo is easier than this course. I don't care who you are. Just study.
During lecture Croft probably whispers I went to Johns Hopkins. Those students won't go there. This inspires him to create difficult exams and quizzes that are designed to weed out students. Take Physics on-season or in the summer or Honors Physics.
Croft should definitely attend one or some or all of Professor Brahmia's lectures to get a comprehensive idea on how to be a good teacher. Professor Brahmia even has office hours! So if he needs more guidance, he will have it!!
Quiz tomorrow which does not make sense since it is the last day of class. Quizzes are also difficult and do not correlate well with the lectures or the textbook. Puts random questions out of the sky that require an in-depth knowledge of Calculus and Linear Algebra. Does not explain concepts that clearly.
Final today which is going to be difficult due to many finals at the same time. Questions require proficiency in abstract Physics like Squarewell Theory and Linear Algebra. Formula sheet is missing many formulas. Textbook and lecture notes do not help that much in studying.
Listen, everyone here is right. Croft is one of the worst teachers at this school. Having said this, the book is an excellent resource. I never went to class and am still in contention for an A. This class requires a lot of work and a lot of self teaching. Formula sheet is vague. The only plus is the average is put at a B. So its not THAT bad.
if you attend class , then croft guides you what to study for the exams and you can get a sense of what is important . I personally enjoyed this class and I felt I learned a lot . I noticed a lot of people complained on here , but I also noticed not many people attending lectures .
Croft is a boring lecturer with a nasty attitude for anybody with a question. His tests are at an extremely high graduate level and does not correlate to his lecture notes or textbook problems. He leaves you unprepared and the only way to pass is through tutoring.
Never got a low grade in any science class before in life. Well I guess Croft's class is not really a science class. It should be changed to Comedy 101 or Demo 101. If you are a premed, you will regret taking this course since Physics is one of the most important class that med schools look at besides MCAT scores.
Crofts lectures are painful, but the class is passable if you understand the concepts from Physics 203 and do the homework. I only attended the first lecture, not a single one after that, as all he did was read formulas off of a power point slide. I studied by doing all of the homework problems a week before the exams, and passed with a C.
DO NOT LISTEN TO THE FALL 2015 REVIEWS BELOW. Its one person posting 1 start reviews. Anyway I had Croft for gen phys 1/2 and his class is ok. To do well you need to study on your own because lecture/notes are confusing but he clarifies anything in office hours. Tests are fair, based solely on lectures NOT HW so understand his lectures to get an A
His class is a complete mess. His lecture notes are incredibly unclear and he doesn't clarify much in lecture. Sadly, his exams stem from lecture more than the book. The book is very useful for teaching yourself the concepts though. Personally, I went to about 6 lectures total and just read the book heavily. Still got a B+ in the class. big curve!
It has been two days since the final. He hasn't released the grades yet. The exam was a scantron. Also, his exams are ridiculous, there are 10 options for a multiple choice question!
My professors who gave me an open ended exam with 50 questions can grade faster than him and this exam was multiple choice
It is probably the people who do not attend lecture who give him low ratings (75% of students). His exams are VERY easy and are based on examples in his slides and HW problems. Attend lectures for clarifications. HUGE CURVE. He cares and answers any questions we have in office hours. I took him twice for 203 and 204 and would take him again.
Funny guy but gave complicated lectures.
204 is not difficult at all as long as you generally understand the topics and read through his lectures. His exams are heavily lecture material-based so make sure you actually read through his slides. His notes are confusing so go to lecture for clarification. I went to all the lectures, did all the homework, studied a day before and got an A.
Avoid Avoid Avoid. Lecture is power point slides which you have access to anyways because it is online. Worst lecture, worst tests. There are 10 multiple choice answers per question (NO KIDDING!!!). Lecture are so unorganized, you will never going to understand anything in lecture. You have to spend so much time outside of class to understand.
Croft is super funny, and his in-class demonstrations are interesting applications of the material. His lectures are slide-based, and his powerpoints can be really confusing. He gives a formula sheet that contains all you want, and he answers questions really well in person and over email. Just go to lecture. TAs are super helpful too.
Took him for 203 and 204. He's funny, respects students, does fun experiments, encourages questions, and is experienced (decades of teaching physics). Homework should be done but not part of grade. Recitations have quizzes and exams are challenging (16 multiple choice). He doesn't like to fail students but you need to work hard for a decent grade.
Croft is an unbelievably sweet and nice guy who is more than willing to help. However, his lecture notes are a complete mess, and you must go to lecture for clarification. He is not that good at explaining either. The good thing is that he is very straightforward about what he expects for exams, and he curves heavily.
Croft was a wonderful professor, smart and cracks a few good jokes throughout lecture. He is transparent about what is on his tests, and arrives one hour early as well as stays an hour after lecture for office hours. He is always happy to help. That said, the lecture notes are messy and the material can be hard. Just study hard and you'll do fine.
The lectures are useful for quizzes in recitation. The notes are not excessively sloppy, he does sometimes make mistakes but is very willing to correct any. He is not cold like the chemistry department, and will listen to student concerns regarding their performance and take that into account. The exams are very fair if you attend the classes.
Prof. is understand and really wants to help you do your best in class. Lectures arent mandatory but are helpful. Even though his voice is a bit monotone and lectures can be a bit boring the content is interesting. The class is graded on HW, midterm, and a final (exams are pretty clear). He even gives you opportunity for extra credit. Great Prof!
Professor Croft is incredibly sweet and very funny. His class is very lecture heavy, and sometimes hard to follow because he talks a little fast but all of the tests/quizzes are open note and open book. He encourages questions and loves answering them. He cares very much about his students and gives a MASSIVE curve on exams.
Prof Croft seems very sweet and is an expert in his field. That being said, as intelligent as he is, he is not a great lecturer. The slides are full of words, but are very unorganized. Everything in this class is simply memorization, and I feel like I'm not retaining any of the material because I am not applying it.
Prof. Croft is a very sweet person. He is very passionate about astronomy, and cares about imparting knowledge to his students. However, this class is difficult, even if it is intended for non-science majors. His slides are disorganized, and he can be hard to follow. His tests are hard, but he gives a very large curve and is generous with grades.
Prof Croft was very sweet and very knowledgeable about his field. But, his class is very lecture heavy and his slides are a bit disorganized. He drops either one or two of the lowest HW grades and curves the midterm and the final. I used the book only to look for answers that I could not find online, but otherwise, the book is not needed.
I had a great time in Professor Croft's class. He would always do these very fun experiments and it a class I left with a better understanding and respect of the subject, which is very uncommon.
Professor Croft despite his outdated presentation and website format, has outstanding lectures with interesting experiments. His demonstrations with the spectrometer/glasses, the fire extinguisher, and when he spit out liquid hydrogen into a cloud of smoke were all memorable experiences for me as a student as Rutgers. 100% recommend him for anyone.
