Mostly speaking and some written work. Open book tests are easy. Good of extra credit opportunities. Tells lots of jokes in class. You only have to answer ONE question per chapter, not all of them! A lot of people made this mistake.

If you are kinda shy and iffy about getting up in front of a class and doing a speech, he is the teacher you want. He is so funny, down to earth, and is constaintly keeping the class laughing and in a good mood. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!

Very funny, not 2 hard of a grader. The debates can be challenging. You have 2 debates, research and talk well and you will do fine. Open book/ notes, and he sometimes leaves during class while your taking a test lol. His test are not easy, but he gives extra cedit that helps a lot.

Funniest and perhaps smartest professor I have ever had. If you heavily research your topics and understand the theory of debate you can succeed(a lot of people looked very silly up at the podium with little or no research or preperation) I am keeping the course textbook which he wrote (very good).

Mark was an excellent instructer who was very eloquent, intelligent and funny. HE WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO ARGUE by reinforcing the fundamentals of argumentation. Make sure you make his classes and don't flake on your partners. He has an awesome textbook that I'll be keeping.

I dropped Speech 3 times before taking it with Mr. Crossman. He takes all the fear out of public speaking and makes it fun. The class was pretty laid back. And you get extra credit for getting up and talk without saying UM. LOL I hate speaking in front of people and I managed to get an A. So anyone can do it.

What more can I say about Mr Crossman. He is funny, very funny and a great teacher. He gives lots of extra credit and the final is take home. I took him in summer and it was a breeze to get through. So if you can hold off take him then and you will still enjoy your summer!

If you have to take a speech class take this one. As a person who thought they had a fear of public speaking, i was very suprised to find out that I enjoy small audiences, He gives you extra-credit for word games. He's a cool teacher, you have about 3 speeches and a debate. you should pass if you dont you didnt do the work.

One of the better professors I've had. The class was fairly easy, but I still learned a lot. He's pretty cool about attendance and his lectures aren't completely boring. I would recommend him to anybody.

If you hate Speech and/or public speaking, take him. He is the best teacher. He will put your mind at ease and take away all that nervous feeling you may have. I highly recommend him. No test on this class, except for the final which is take home. There are 4 speeches. Pretty easy. Just be sure to practice your speech. He also gives extra credits. FUN class!!!

Great personality. Funny, witty, and knowledgeable. Class is dependent on reading the book, especially for tests. Mark is very good at identifying your weak points and has a good approach to constructive criticism. Summer session 07 was a breeze. Definitely recommend vs. other speech instructors. "shinny"

Class can be very hard if you don't speak English or understand it.He used to be easier,but now there is a section of Speech One for International Students-so he is grading harder.Very hard to get a C if you can't speak or understand English.

I avoided taking speech for as long as I could before transfering bc I was terrified of giving speeches. I am now thinking about joining a debate team. His class is extremely helpful all around. After giving you speech he lets you know to to improve in a very tactfull manner. Great class, great teacher, what more do you want?

For a critical thinkinbg class, this was very easy. Take the class with a friend so you feel more confortable in the speeches, it will be enjoyable and you have someone trustworthy to work with. Amazingly easy to catch on to Parliamentary debate if you take Speech Comm 4. Very funny guy. Cannot recommend enough.

Very helpful and clear in teaching parliamentary debate,he makes everything so much interesting and he has a great sense of humor. I took his honors class and it was my favorite class out of the semester. I got an A!

He is a cool guy. He is a very lenient grader and his tests/quizzes are easy as long as you pay attention to his lectures and read his book. Don't take this class if you are afraid of public speaking because you do a lot of it since it is a debate class. lol

He is seriously such an amazing teacher he is so funny and there is NO WAY you can sit through his lecture with atleast cracking a smile.

He doesn't mock ECC students, he mocks stupid ECC students. He mocks students who can't speak after two weeks of prep time. Don't take him if you cry easily, can't read, or don't speak well. Take English 1C or Speech 1.

I was a pretty good speaker but I did note that Crossman mocked his students.. He mocked my entire class in fact.. regardless if you spoke well or not.. and he gave out A's just because my partner always got C's on quizes and did poorly on his speeches but he got an A just like myself. Easy A for sure. Don't even try.

Great teacher for argumentation and debate! I was so scared of this class, but he really does care that you do well. Very fun, interactive, and it raises your self confidence. As long as you study, stay on top of general topics, and put care into your work, you'll do fine. I'd take it again if i could. I got an A! Great teacher, great class!

This professor is hilarious in class, making students laugh like crazy. He's crystal clear on things you should know for quizzes and tests. Many times has pwrpt slides to help you get the material. I recommend going over the notes and then read his book for quizzes & tests. Tells what'll b on quizzes and tests. Easy grader on debates.

Why's everyone so ridiculous on these things. First of all, he is hot. Secondly, the A isn't that easy. Lastly, learn something for the sake of learning not just for a grade. Sheesh.

B4 I took his class, I dread of public speaking but now I have learned to enjoy myself. During these 5 weeks of winter, I was only afraid of the first speech. The rest of it I love it! two words: funny dude! took him for summer honors. It was a pretty fast paced class, so you must keep up with a few of his lectures and the structure of debating. This class was a bit intimidating, but the class as a whole got the jist of it. He really breaks down everything word for word. Extra credit. 3 exams and a final. 4 debates. fun class!!!!

He's a hilarious prof who has obviously been doing this for a long time. He connects well with the entire class, so no one feels left out. He only "mocks" students in a light-hearted way (for being late and stuff like that), but NEVER mocks a student for not speaking well. I would highly recommend taking his class. Easy A if you apply yourself.

Professor is very outgoing, likes to joke with his students. He only asks that you try your best, speak up, speak clearly, and follow directions. The people that washed out of my class were people that refused to participate. No textbook needed. Teacher is quite lenient if he knows your trying.

Great Professor!!! Just took this class over the summer 2014 and it was quite enjoyable. 3 debates, 3 quizzes and a journal. Never boring or dull. He jokes with students and is quite entertaining. I was one of the students he picked on, I loved it. He tries his best to get students to do their best. One of the best teachers at El Camino.

Funny and outgoing. His slides are clear and he explains over and over each point for better understanding. Be ready to memorize topics at a professional level, or else do not take this class because you will feel foolish when the opposing teams wins. As long as you are trying, you will get credit. Easy but stay on top on your game

I forget i'm in class sometimes because it's never boring and always a good time. He's very smart and his jokes have a lot of political humor in it. He makes it really easyfun to go to class. FUNNIEST TEACHER EVER! There's 3 debates so a lot of times you'll literally sit there and just listen to debates. He lets students out early when he feels like. Laid back kind of dude.

I've been through 8 professors at ECC now and he's by far my favorite so far. He is super witty, knows what he's talking about, and just overall very fun and laid back. There are only 3 debates and 3 quizzes overall, but they're very easy points, so you won't have to worry about failing one and then failing the whole class. Seriously, take him!

Professor Crossman is so funny he will pass you no matter what just make sure you do your debate and his grading is out of 100 so it is 2 debate each debate is about 20 point and 2 test is 15 point. and the rest is easy just take him and have fun. you don't have to go to class will never notice but is recommended to understand the lecturer

Crossman is one of my favorite professors so far. He's super funny and makes the class fun. He grades debates very easy and virtually no homework all semester so it's very easy to achieve an A. I'd definitely take his class again!

You get out early almost everyday and tells you what days he isn't going to be there. As long as you do your research and try your best there is no reason you cant get an A on the debates. His test are not hard if you read the textbook.

I had a great time in Dr. Crossman's class. He's a very smart man and is very witty. He likes to crack jokes with his students but unless you are older than 25 you wont get them! He gives good feedback on the debates so pay close attention and as long as you show up ON TIME, DO THE WORK, STUDY your notes, and PAY ATTENTION you will pass.

I was nervous taking my first coms class, but professor Crossman makes public speaking easy. There is only three speeches and one debate with very easy impromptu activities inbetween. Show up to class and do your speeches, and you will get an easy A.

I took Prof. Crossman's honors debate class and absolutely loved it! He's very funny and quirky, and uses current examples to make the material understandable. I had never debated in my life but he had an in-class demo and made the structure easy to understand. The in-class debates were so much fun and I learned a lot. I'd absolutely take it again!

This class is reasonably easy as long as you do the work. He lets you out early, gives you clear criteria if you need help, and the entire debate team is accessible for help with class assignments. Also, laugh at his jokes. Don't take the class too seriously. He gives nearly a whole letter grade of extra credit. Just do the work and you'll get an A

Public speaking is my LEAST favorite thing to do, but I got an easy A in this class. He is very clear on what he expects from you - as long as you follow it and perform well you will do well in the class. If more comms teachers were like him, I think less people would be so afraid of public speaking.

If I were a comms major, I would take this guy for all of my comms classes! He's really nice and is on your side 100%. He really helped me become less nervous about speaking in front of a class. Everything about this class not hard at all! Just get the speeches done, thats it!

This guy is so funny. If you want to laugh every class you have him for take this guy. In the communications department he is one of the easier professors. This guy has his own book and used it for this class and knows what he is talking about. I personally really enjoyed this class. Many people did drop this class but it was the speaking part.

Take this class. Hes super funny and politically correct. He has so many sublime jokes I laughed the entire semester. Took him in the summer and it was easy it was like 5 speeches a test and a Comm event to attend but its nothing hard just write out the outline practice and thats it. The majority of the semester is listening to speeches.

This is my second course Ive taken with professor Crossman and honestly I wish he offered more sections. I highly recommended him to my brother and he loves him too. Clear on how he wants his debates, also gives you the template to use for your debates, keeps lectures interesting with his personality, 3 tests (goes over questions in class). Great

At first, I was taking this course to simply fulfill a requirement, but Crossman quickly changed my mind about that. He's a very lenient professor with fun assignments and frequent debates. Though he doesn't say it, he expects you to use reasoning and defend your argument without conceding. I appreciated the structure of his class and its pace.

Mark is super fun and understanding, gets the whole class involved and youll 9/10 times pass the course with minimal effort. A lot of in class assignments but never really homework, pay attention in class and youll pass his class just fine!

Really good teacher, speak slow with speeches. He gives you way more than enough time to prepare, like 2 weeks :). Theres 5 speeches and no tests! Follow his rubric really well! So, make an outline to help! You record your speeches online, however; its faster if you record them through the canvas app. Easy A!

I was a bit skeptical in taking an online speaking class during the pandemic, but Professor Crossman made it very easy to understand! There are no written tests, and he gives you plenty of time to create your speech. As long as you follow his directions, you'll be fine! He also gives great feedback after every speech. I highly recommend taking him!

I took public speaking over the winter, and it was actually fun and manageable! We had 2 short speeches, 3 longer ones (4-5 min each), and 4 discussions on TED talks. (We had a week to create each speech.) Prof. C is also funny and provides great feedback to help you improve. If you follow directions and avoid procrastinating, youll be golden.

I love this man! His sarcasm is hilarious and he has given me an A+ on every speech. He gives a clear outline to follow and gives perfect examples of what to do and what not to do. I'm no speech giver, but he taught so well especially all online. He is incredible. I wish I could thank him for giving me confidence in speech giving.

Professor Crossman is a cool and funny professor. Honestly the structure of his class is beyond straightforward. The layout of his class consisted of 4 major speeches, 2 minor speeches and 3 discussion responses. I guarantee you will get an A if you follow his instructions. He's was an amazing professor, had him for online classes in his class it shows how understanding he is to the situation such as not needing a dress code for recording the speeches, for the 4 major speeches you have to do they are 4-5 minutes long, he gives you plenty of time to prepare for the speech also he does not make you do a written test.

Extremely chill and nice professor. There were only six speeches (4 long ones and 2 short ones) and several short Ted Talk discussions. Not a lot of assignments as you can see, so I would try not to miss one (one of the main speeches, specifically) because doing so may bring your grade down by a lot of points. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I am currently taking him for Comms 100. He is AMAZING! He replies to emails within a short matter of time. There are a few discussions you have to do (very straightforward & easy). There are 4 main speeches and the criteria for each is straightforward + CLEAR! Follow the outline for each speech, look at the example speeches, and you'll be set :)

Prof Crossman is definitely the best coms prof in Elco. Extremely chill and really nice. Gives great feedback on speeches and other assignments. However he doesnt do extra credit, extensions, or accept late work so you must do all the work as soon as possible if you wanna pass. Easy A. TAKE HIM!!!!

Take him! He's an easy A, I have a 99% in his class. He assigned readings I didn't read them honestly and I still passed .He constantly... like annoyingly lol in a good way reminds to do your speeches on time, he strict on time, like he wont allow to turn in late work. He's direct with what he want, he's really an easy A I cant stress that enough.

Professor Crossman is awesome and this class is super easy if you read and follow the clear instructions. He's funny and helpful with the study material he includes in the curriculum. Unless you really try, there is no way to actually fail this class. His grading scale is very generous as well. Overall the best speech class available.

Great professor. He is not a tough grader. If you really follow the instructions given you won't fail the class. Easy class, no test or quizzes. Very simple modules.

My best advice for this is show up to all the classes. He does not upload the slides onto canvas so if you miss a class you'll just have to read the chapter on your own. Very straightforward in how he teaches and has no trouble with students needing clarification on concepts. There is only few assignments for the class so always put effort.

Still taking the class. Does not except any late work at all. Graded by three speeches. I hate his expectations however. To get an A on the speeches, basically BS what you're saying so it does not sound scripted and then add quotes word for word according to the topic you choose. Feedback is good but conflicts with expectations so it's pointless.

Excellent professor, lectures very easy to understand

Such an easy class. 4 major speeches. A few discussions. Do the work and he gives you a good grade.

One of the best professors I've ever taken at ECC, gives two extra credit opportunities, gives very good constructive feedback on nearly everything that you do, no textbook, four major speeches, some discussion boards, and that's about it, I wish more professors are like Mr. Crossman.

Very few assignments throughout the semester so do well on the speeches. If you're doing a speech last minute just miss it, he allows you to make up one speech later in the semester. He does NOT allow redos and he won't round up your grade so keep that in mind.

Loved Mr. Crossman's class. I was very nervous because I hate public speaking, but he made it feel less stressful. We had one no prep debate, two prep debates, and three quizzes. The debates are easy as long as your prepared and he grades based on if you've followed the debate outline he gives, you don't have to be a great debater to get an A.

This is my second time taking a communications course, and I chose Professor Crossman this time for the winter session. He's a great professor but has a strict no late work policy, so staying on top of deadlines is key. The class includes five speeches and discussion questions. Follow the syllabus, and you'll do well in this course!!

Dr. Crossman is very serious with deadlines of assignments, but he states it at the beginning. He reminds you about your assignments several times before deadline and puts his recommendations. If you are willing to take this class I recommend that you take it with him. Dr. Crossman is a fantastic teacher and he is encouraging and helpful.

Easy class. Put effort into the few speeches and respond to lectures according to grading criteria. Responds quick and very to the point.

Took Professor Crossmans class online for this 2025 summer semester. He is awesome and is super quick at grading and giving feedback. As long as you meet the speeches requirements you'll do fine, he is a little humorous so don't feel offended whenever he announces something on canvas, He's just tryna to push you to do your best!

He's super funny and relaxed his honors class was really easy and fun

I took this class during my spring semester. It consisted of light discussion posts , an intro speech , 3 major speech assignments , and a farewell speech . Make sure to submit them , he only lets you compete ONE missing speech for half credit at the end.( I didn't do one of speeches and ended with a C )

Dr. Crossman is a good professor. Although the combination of public speaking and group work sounds like a living nightmare, his lectures are informative and fun, his quizzes are easy as long as you study the content, the workload/argumentation journal is completely manageable, and he is very understanding if you properly communicate your needs.
