Smart professor, knows his stuff. Sometimes can get political with his rants, but stays on topic most of the time. Honestly, if you took Econ in high school you can probably skip class for the first half of the semester.
Great Professor. Easy to ask for help from and is pretty clear with his lectures. Online quizzes and reading questions really help your grade as well as your understanding, but there are a lot of them. Occasionally gave surprise extra credit with attendance rosters.
Course is structured very well with an online resource that goes along with the in class lecture and the homework provides a nice buffer. He also gives extra credit very generously if you do the study material for the tests.
Can I just say what an amazing professor this is?? He makes economics so simple and natural it's almost like breathing. His structure makes sense and really allows you to learn the material. Nothing unexpected from him so you always know what's happening. Try and take the hybrid class because it makes the learning process a lot easier.
You need the book code to access the homework, but do not buy the actual textbook-you won't need it. Classes go over the readings exactly, I missed 5 classes and still got a B without studying. Videos and homework assignment due every week 3 tests, 1 cumulative final
He does a good job of explaining the material. Although I stopped showing up just because the online part helps just as much. Don't buy a real textbook, just the code for the online material. Do the extra credit and practice quizzes and you should be fine.
Took the hybrid course for Cullivan and came out with a decent grade. If all the homework is done, then at least a B is easily attainable. The tests are deceptively tough, but the rest of the course is simple.
He was a good professor but if you don't understand Economics, it can be challenging. I took the hybrid class and it was nice only having class MW. There is a good amount of work but he is very easy to communicate with and understand.
This class was decent, but lecture heavy (as expected). Mark is a decent professor, and if you know something about econ or are willing to study then you will do well.
I couldve gotten a better grade if I had shown up more often but when I did show up, his lectures always made a lot of sense. Super straightforward class, but I forgot to do the Friday assignments sometimes which hurt my grade. If you do all the online stuff on time for the hybrid class it's definitely at least a B.
I thought he was a good professor but I feel like I learned the most reading the book. If you do not pick up easily on things the book will help you! Also, he is very helpful in his office hours and easy to talk to!
Mark is a good professor and his class wasn't that bad. All of the homework is online and so was the extra credit. He'd get on tangents sometimes in class and he'd go on for awhile. The tests were kind of difficult but he has practice quizzes and they really help. Make sure if you don't understand something, go ask because he skips some material.
This class was non participation based, but I highly recommend going to lectures & handwriting your notes because it makes it a lot easier to understand the concepts. I also read/took notes of examples & definitions on my own time and this helped me really absorb his lectures. The tests were weirdly difficult, but he offers up to 3% extra credit
When I was in class I thought I understood the material because he taught pretty well, but the tests are really hard so study A LOT for them. I'd also suggest reading the book. Honestly that's where I failed and I wish I had done that. I took is class part online, if you do that make sure to complete every single assignment. He's very opinionated.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I walked in with no knowledge about the economy and this class really really opened my eyes. Mark is one of the most caring professors I've ever had. Make use of his office hours. He is really helpful and wants you to succeed.
Overall, this class wasn't too bad. Cullivan is a sweet guy who wants his students to succeed & actually learn something. His lectures can be dry. The hw is due online once a week and they can be time consuming. Definitely recommend reading the book as you complete it. 4 tests, with no final! DO THE EXTRA CREDIT AND SHOW UP TO CLASS!!
Attendance is optional (don't go). Just teach yourself through the videos & LearnSmarts hw. Do the problem set questions every week for extra credit! It's good practice for the exams & any bits of points will be helpful for your grade. For the exams, recharge on LearnSmarts and do the practice quizzes. Tests are worded/formatted differently than hw
He is a good professor but his tests are a bit too hard(test are essentially the bulk of your grade). He teaches well, but doesn't cover everything on tests, so read the book and work examples. He also goes on a lot of tangents in class which makes it a little annoying. Overall, a solid choice for Econ.
not a difficult class, but economics in general is challenging. however, having the hybrid class is a definitive plus because you dont have to go to class and can teach yourself. do the work, even if econ isnt your strong suit, like me, you should end up with higher than a C. He's a great teacher, very nice, and teaches well.
He teaches well, even though you can just study the same thing from the ebook by yourself. We have weekly hw and 4 tests. Tests are a little bit hard since he doesn't give the study guide or cover something on the test. We only can study books by ourselves for the test. In short, not bad. A great professor in Econ 101. I would take his 102.
Mark is a cool teacher. I didn't learn much from lectures but the online videos/assignments are usually plenty to teach you for the 4 tests (final included). Some people did very poorly on a couple tests, especially the first one, but I didn't find it too hard. Got an A and was one of my easiest classes of the semester. Attendance isn't graded.
Lectures were kinda pointless just stay on top of your work with the online stuff. He gets mad when people don't go to class so sometimes he will give EC for those who do show up. Good guy and good teacher. Decent class not hard not easy.
lectures were pointless, do everything that's online and go to A+ review for his tests. attendance not mandatory sort of boring
Mark is a cool professor. He is easy to talk to and answers questions, despite the large lecture. Book is never used. He asks questions specific from lectures on most tests, attendance isn't taken, can learn all material from online homework, but recommend going to class for the extra credit.
No point in going to lectures because the online portion is the exact same as what he lectures. Really nice guy and lectures aren't boring, just unnecessary. Tests are crazy hard! They are nothing like what you learn in lectures or the online portion.
If you want to take an econ class, I highly recommend Cullivan. His lectures aren't mandatory (I BARELY went) as long as you self-study. He provides you with a LOT of resources. This includes the online book (which is very clear and easy to follow), learnsmarts, module videos, practice quizzes, and EC. If you put in the work, it's not hard.
Cullivan is a very dry lecturer, but if you go to class and take notes this class is easily A or B attainable. The online homework basically teaches the same thing, so if you can teach yourself you can skip class. Really cool guy who wants his students to succeed. Will offer help in office hours if necessary. Offers up to 3% of extra credit online.
You go to class, he lectures on the topic. Rinse and repeat. The lectures he has are pretty thorough but he just reiterates what students get from the online LearnSmart assignments so you don't miss out on much if you skip class. The tests are very doable and reminiscent of practice quizzes he gives on Blackboard. Pretty relaxed guy though.
Professor Cullivan does not use PowerPoints. He relies heavily on a whiteboard and speaking directly to the class. He goes over things in detail and with great examples. In my personal experience, lecture was so boring. It wasn't meant for me but it might be meant for those slow learners. Anyway, he is great at teaching the subject in detail.
His lectures were never mandatory and I never went unless I felt like it. he will give EC if not a lot of people show up tho. if you dont take notes or go to lecture just read through the lessons in the online book they are short and to the point and easy to understand. do the practice quizzes and study for tests but honestly an easy a for me
Pretty chill professor. He lectures but does not take attendance. I would recommend coming in anyways because you are occasionally rewarded with extra credit for showing up. STUDY THE PRACTICE QUIZZES ON BLACKBOARD! He will often times reuse the same questions found there so no reason to fail tests.
Very clear on what's due when. We used an online system to submit all of our homework and it has a clear calendar of when everything is due. In clas he often just repeats what the homework videos say although he connects them to real world examples to make them easier to comprehend. Show up to class he'll randomly give you extra credit for show up
Very thorough professor. His lectures are pretty fast paced since they are only 50 min long but your notes will be your bestfriend in this course. Color coordination is best since there are plenty of graphs that are drawn in each lecture with different variables. It's an easy course if you pay attention in class and do the online hw.
Cullivan is pretty nice, but his lectures are confusing. He uses a whiteboard for everything, so when you go back to study your notes, nothing makes sense. He uses a ton of graphs that have no relevance when it comes to the learnsmart homework and the extra credit problem sets. The only effective way to study for his tests is by going to A+ review.
His lectures were boring so I barely showed up. But sometimes he would give out attendance bonuses! Just do the videos, learnsmarts, and study for his tests and you should be able to pass.
Cullivan is unorganized and difficult to understand! Most of this confusion comes from his decision to use the whiteboard rather than using PowerPoint to explain graphs and concepts. Exams are 30 questions, but they are difficult because he refuses to tell you what to study in particular. Definitely recommend looking into a different professor.
Lectures are the same thing as the videos that are homework so if you don't get it then you are out of luck.
If you are NOT an auditory learner, do not take this class! Cullivan refers to storytelling a lot when lecturing, making note taking very difficult. Study the concepts before each class. You will more rely on studying the textbook and homework rather than lectures. He offers extra credit, every week so make sure you do those before they're due!
Decent professor. The lectures are sometimes boring but ECON is already boring so that's not surprising. He helps in his office hours.
Econ hasn't been an easy class for me, I just don't get it, but Professor Cullivan is not at fault. Lectures very visual; buy a notebook to take notes so you can draw graphs. He often goes off tangent, but it's relevant and interesting information so I wouldn't tune it out. Attendance not mandatory but I don't know how people do well without going.
I loved Mark Cullivan as a person and he is very passionate and knowledgeable about economics, however his lectures seemed confusing and boring. I mainly learned the material through the online homework as well as teaching myself. However, he offers extra credit, has a lot of homework to help boost your grade, and offers multiple tests.
this class is so easy and i love mark cullivan!! he is really knowledgable about economics and super easygoing. i actually learned a lot and the tests weren't super hard, he ended up giving a generous curve on some of them which was nice. definitely take him for this class if you can!!
Cullivan is a great guy, I like him.. but I really don't enjoy the way he teaches, he writes 1 or 2 things on the board and the rest is all conversation, but it's kind of hard to catch up with him! He does not give any revision before exams, and he gives new materials 2 days before the test! You have to do learn smart and watch videos every week.
Don't have to go to class. His tests are really basic, he isn't trying to trick you like the other econ professors. Email him or see him in office hours and he will nicely help you with what ever you need. You will not have to worry about this class!!
Pretty easy. Videos and learnsmarts every week for homework and also extra credit problem sets. Extra credit is worth 3% total grade add on if you do all of it. Don't have to go to class if you watch the videos and take notes. Practice quizzes line up with the test so those are good to practice on.
Cullivan is a really nice person but not a great teacher. He talks about the same five things the entire semester so it is easy to get lost with homework and tests. Tests are worth 80% of your grade which is a lot of pressure. Tests are extremely similar to the practice quizzes though.
His tests are SO HARD - but there are no good Econ teachers at state so he is probably one of the better ones. There is extra credit opportunities throughout the semester you just have to keep up with it. Good luck passing the tests if you don't study for weeks prior :)))
Cullivan was the favorite prof I had freshman year. It was a large lecture hall which didn't facilitate Q&A. I went to his OH and he was incredibly helpful. He cared how I was doing and would follow up with me after lecture occasionally. Not an easy A, but an A is available if you put in the work. Offers semester long extra credit. Take him!
He literally does not teach. I had to teach myself all of the materials. There's connect HW/ Learnsmarts that actually help your grade. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT PROBLEMS. Tests are hard, study a lot.
Online HW is where you do most of the learning, 4 tests in the class, random attendance. Class is fairly easy, but picks up quick later on. It's pretty easy as long at you do the HW, as well as the extra credit every week. Lectures are building on what the HW teaches, uses McGrawHill. If you show up to lecture and understand the HW, it's not hard.
Cullivan has expertise in economics but his lectures can lose focus and not put emphasis on topics we need to talk about. Lectures were never mandatory, online homework explains what he went over in detail and is simple. Go to class, and take 4 exams, final not cumulative. Tests can have confusing questions so take your time.
Easy class overall, but he had the audacity to say that he's making tests harder because we now have more time being at home all the time (COVID 19) He cares too much about a 102 class and thinks we have nothing better to do. Despite this he might be the best for freshman econ bc he does teach and the way grading is structured.
His lectures help but he assigns learnsmarts, videos, and extra credit problem sets every week that basically teach you everything. no attendance. tests are okay. not the hardest, just do the learnsmarts again before the test and youll be fine. the problem sets can add up to an extra 4% at the end of the sem if you get 100% on em
Not great in terms of adjusting the class to accommodate and respond to COVID in comparison to my other professors. Tests aren't hard though if you read (seems like a lot of reading but it actually isn't bad, just a lot of graphs that help). DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. DO THE PRACTICE QUIZZES. The quizzes aren't for points but HELP ON TESTS.
It's a tough class, there's no doubt about it, you're gonna have to work for it no matter who you pick. But Cullivan is pretty straightforward, not in a mean way, but he gives it to you the way it is. If he can help you he will, if he can't he won't. Lectures are necessary, and he gives exam questions in his practice quizzes. Solid choice for Econ
Straight forward class. Attend lecture, take notes, then do the online homework and extra credit. Practice quizzes are similar to exams so study those. Lectures can be somewhat repetitive but still worth going. He really cares about his students and is understanding. Solid choice for completing econ.
I took two classes with professor Cullivan and enjoyed them both. It's important to go to his lectures and I don't find his lectures boring. He definitely cares about his students and he is there if you need help understanding material. His teaching and exams are straightforward, no surprises. Overall he is a really nice guy and a good professor.
Lectures may be confusing but he provides many resources to help you such as the textbook and has office hours to help students. He is pretty laid-back so if you need extra credit or need an extension he'll most likely provide it for you. Recommend to do the video lectures before attending class to understand what's actually going on in class.
The class was lecture heavy, and some lectures were a bit confusing but the textbook made it easier to understand. The exams are pretty heavy graded, so make sure to study and ask for help when needed. He was pretty laid back, and if you need help with something he was easy to get a hold of.
Had him when it was in-person, and it was pretty tough. You learn the material outside of class through the textbook, LearnSmart, and the practice tests are ESSENTIAL. Memorize them and their concepts! Sometimes you will get lucky and there's a repeat question on the exam. A student but got a B+ unfortunately
You have to read the textbook if you want to pass the exam with good scores, they're based off of it. His lectures help, but you won't die if you skip them. DO THE PRACTICE QUIZZES as they're good reflection of the test and questions from the quizzes appear on the test. He will help you out and is understanding if something comes up. Solid choice.
I took 2 classes with him, and I liked both a lot. Reading the text, watching the lectures, and attending the zoom classes allowed me to thoroughly understand the material.
The professor is a really good guy, but his lectures can be somewhat boring. However, I don't know if that is his fault or if it is the nature of the subject. His course is reading heavy, but I recommend reading the textbook, it is very helpful. His exams are just like the learnsmarts/problem sets and are usually not too math-heavy. Lots of graphs.
Instructor is helpful in explaining complicated concepts but sometimes he does ramble a bit. I believe that using the book is your best way to succeed, as soon I read the book and took my own notes I did better in the tests. Homework (problem sets) gives you one shot at answering the questions, but most of the answers are on quizlet and chegg.
I'm an all A student and in this class I got a C because the Learnsmarts and detailed book notes I took did not help on the test. Some test questions are in practice quizzes . He does like to ramble on but I never really figured out how to do well on the exams. A very difficult step from Econ 101. Most answers on quizlet & tests are recorded
Cullivan is a bit bland, but he cares. Read and you'll be fine. Don't and you'll struggle. Micro was harder than Macro, more tedious. Understand the concepts. Do the practice quizzes, he uses the same question bank for the test, so some of those questions pop up in the test. Is very understanding, but you need to communicate. Overall solid choice.
Cullivan is a really good lecturer, but I honestly haven't been to lecture since the first month because all corse material are on online resources. You don't need to go at all, as long as you take notes on the online resources and study before exams you'll be fine. Watch out for "video" assignments though. They can mess up your grade.
Boring lectures that didnt really help me understand the material much. Three tests and one final, all in person and on a scantron (kinda hard). easy homework though
Everyone complained about this class, but honesty i never went and still got an A-... it shouldnt be too hard and him being a dilf is an added bonus. Wearing a weed shirt on exam day dope prof
There is a decent amount of outside work to do like homework and videos, but he also offers extra credit for each module which is nice. Class is not mandatory, but I still recommend you go from time to time though. Tests aren't too bad if you review before, plus some of the answers from the practice quizzes on canvas are on the test.
Lectures are extremely boring and did not help me with understanding the material. He doesnt teach. You have to teach all the material to yourself. 4 exams in total, no final exam. Exams are worth 79% of your grade. Doesnt accept late work. Hes very straightforward, sometimes might seem mean.
Honestly Prof. Cullivan is very respected and a solid choice for Econ. The course is mainly online work due every week, but its manageable. Test ate heavily based on practice quizzes and lectures arent that mandatory since he basically covers everything thats in the textbook. Overall, you really have to put in effort to understand the material.
Nah because ONG this class was hard. I went to the lectures but they were kinda bland. The tests are basically what make up your grade (and those test are hard asf, like I studied the textbook and my lecture notes and still didn't do good). Has homework due every week but it barely counts towards your grade.
Solid guy, lots of lecture, couple assignments each week that take about 1:30, four tests that are heavy on your grade so study for them!
Very clear cut professor. Deadlines are predictable, and there is definately a good routine. If you take this class, I would prepare to attend lectures and you'll be fine.
Honestly the most boring class Ive ever taken. The class is very test heavy and the lectures are not all that helpful. Homework is very manageable, but I wouldnt take the class again.
Great professor for econ. You have weekly ish homework (one is completion and one is questions about videos you watch). He also gives problem sets for each module that are extra credit added on at the end of semester (up to 4%). Tests are hard but his online textbooks give good information to study if you work for it.
Easy on the eyes, needed a lot of studying to get bs on exams
Econ 101 is hard, but Cullivan explains it well, and supplements the lectures with homework that is actually helpful. The weekly ALAs and Online video assignments were tedious but helped to solidify the information. There are 4 in-person exams that each account for about 20% of the grade, the other 20% is homework. Make sure you take notes/ study
Grade is based on 4 exams and homework, non cumulative, and every homework assignment is really clearly laid out on canvas. the ALA is super tedious because you do them until you get everything right. turn the video speed up 2x on video assignments and it'll go way faster. extra credit is offered, but not necessary. Tests are heavily curved.
Lectures will not help you on tests. I studied the textbook inside and out and could not get higher than a C on the test. Wording on tests is completely different than what is taught in class. Very bad communication as far as tests go and homework assignments do not help with tests at all
4 exams, last one being a noncumulative final. 2 homework assignments every module (12 modules) one being an ALA which usually takes more than an hour to do and the other being Video questions which have really silly questions (ex,was pizza used as an example in this video?). The ALA was easy if you paid attention to lecture but still quite tedious
I zoned out a lot during his lectures. Cullivan doesn't cover everything on his exams so you need to read the textbook if you want a good grade. I be studying a week in advance for every exam and barely have an A- right now. I will say he is a dilf though which may or may not have contributed to my zoning out if you know what I mean ;)
Most of your grade is tests so if you aren't a good test taker beware. Homework and Extra cred barely count for anything. Lectures are boring and not helpful for tests. The final isn't cumulative which is nice but nothing is taught too well if econ isn't an easy subject for you already. Good luck with him
Cullivan is a great professor, his econ101 class is super straightforward and just consists of online homework assignments and 4 tests. If you don't show up to lecture you will definitely be confused, but if you put in the work, it's an easy class to pass.
To be honest. Im a business major, I suck at Econ and understanding graphs. This class is doable if you put effort in. In order to do good on the exams make sure to practice the practice test problems. Cool Professor.
lecture. lecture & more lecture. after the first exam i ended up not going to class and instead taught myself all of the work and i did much better. if you do bad on the exams good luck because thats the only way to get your grade up.
Great lecturer, homework basically puts you through another 3 credit online course but if done right you will ace midterms.
The class is quite easy if you do all the homework's online which are super helpful for the tests and do not take very long. I did not go to his class that much although it helps, it is not mandatory. All of the tests are made up of homework questions and the practice quizzes. It's also very easy to get extra credit in his class.
I got a B with minimal effort, and homework took around 1-2 hours per 2 weeks. when i did attend class the lectures were understandable and he taught the content well did no studying and got b's and c's on quiz if you put in some amount of effort you could probably get an easy A do what is required and you'll get a b
hes a good teacher and lectures are worthwhile and each class has a lot of information even during thanksgiving break either ur good at econ or ur not bc i studied my ass off and i average Cs and a B on the test but my other friends studied for an hour and got an A so its natural selection idek but hes manageable!
Listen up. This is not the class to take. No matter how good you may think you are at Econ, this professor makes it so much harder than it needs to be. Lectures include nonstop talking about random things that have nothing to do with what will be on the exams. You'll spend a few hours trying to learn from the online assignments and teach yourself..
Cullivan is a good lecturer, but his tests are really hard. He gives you nothing to study other than your lecture notes and homework. Even if you get 100% on all the homework, doing badly on the tests will ruin your grade. The homework is very basic and doesn't prepare you well for his tricky tests. His extra credit also barely impacts your grade.
DON'T take this class, even if you have to wait a semester or two on taking econ from a different professor... do it. Lectures have nothing to do with the extremely hard test, gives no study guide, 3 pieces of homework due every week that don't even help with the test, just busy work 3 hrs minimum for those. Hardest/worse class I have ever taken
The lectures were very boring and he didn't offer much help outside of class. 3 weekly assignments and 4 tests in total.
Professor Cullivan is a great professor. Econ is very hard for me and I hated the content of the class but that had nothing to do with him. I could not have imagined a better professor. He is very accommodating. Tests are hard and do require studying, but he curves all of them. There is plenty of extra credit and not much homework.
I enjoyed taking this class. Cullivans lectures could be confusing at times, but as long as you go to class and study a little bit for the tests you should be fine. The homework was very easy and is free points, and he offers extra credit assignments.
Personally, I enjoyed Cullivan's class! I thought he was a great professor and I would highly recommend attending lectures because he is great at explaining. The class is very test heavy but don't let that scare you, if you study you'll be fine. This class is moderately hard but if you do the work you should have no problem passing.
This class was not very hard, but you had to make sure that you really stayed on top of things. Always do the extra credit, make sure to study for the exams, and also do the practice quizzes he provides because they help a lot.
Econ is a very hard class to begin with and it was honestly hard to learn the material through his lectures. I pretty much taught myself the material through the homework. I would honestly set time aside to study for this class each week. Exams are super hard but he does offer extra credit homework which helps.
The exams are hard since there is no study guide and feels overwhelming. The homework is ALA's, and videos which can take up to 2 hours to complete. He has extra credit but barely counts towards your grade. Other than that it is very cool, and the lectures can be interesting at times.
I was going into the class thinking it would be decent due to the good reviews, but this class is HARD. Cullivans tests are extremely tough, I study for them for hours to get a decent grade (he does curve them though). Class is not mandatory, but you will fail if you don't go to lectures, as all of the exams are based on them. time consuming HW.
He's a good professor but this was hands down one of the most difficult classes I have ever taken. I went to every lecture, took notes, made quizlets and studied for every single test and still failed almost every one. He's not a bad teacher this class just moves extremely fast and has too much information crammed into a few months.
The lectures are not very helpful - I stopped going to class after the first test because it hadn't helped me at all. If you want to do well on tests take the practice quizzes until u know all of the info. Some questions are straight from those and others are in the same format with different numbers.
DO NOT TAKE IT!!! The lectures are so long and so boring, they do not go over anything and he never makes sense. The class is very hard and very test-heavy. I have had to spend money to go to an A+ review because he just cannot teach. So if you want to stay mentally sain do not take this class.
Prof Cullivan was a good lecturer, and makes the class very clear in his syllabus. If you show up to class and do the practice quizzes he gives us, you will do more than fine in the class. The "extra" quizzes he gives us are nearly identical to the tests, so doing those are vital to success in this class.
He's a really good professor. Only one short McGraw Hill and one short Video with a few questions per week. He gives extra credit for up to 4% added to your grade at the end of the year. He also curves every test. If you go to A+ reviews for this class anyone can get an A.
cullivan was an average econ professor. his lectures are so boring so it gets hard to pay attention but if you don't you won't understand the econ topics that will be on the test. the tests were ok, not too hard but also not easy if you don't study. he is probably the best econ 101 professor, go to the A+ review too
Although it was very clear Professor Cullivan was passionate about what he teaches, his lectures are extremely boring and hard to understand. The tests can be a bit confusing but as long as you study they are nothing that is not manageable.
Do not listen to everyone saying it's so hard, it's definitely super manageable. I managed to get an A on all the exams by just taking his practice quizzes until I understood them. The homework is super easy, expect to spend 2-3 hours per week on homework. Definitely do not need to go to the lectures. Overall pretty easy class without much work
Professor Cullivan's lectures can get a little bit boring, I would strongly recommend doing the readings before class so that everything could make more sense. Offers extra credit and the homework assignments are not hard at all. You for sure need to put more effort than just going to the lectures, overall, a challenging but manageable class.
78% of grade based in tests, homework each week is pretty easy! tests are not too bad, do the practice quizzes because some of the question come straight from there. does offer extra credit each week too, in the form of problem sets. textbook is online.
Cullivan is an alright professor. I personally didn't like his class bc it was so test heavy (~75% of your grade). I stopped showing up to lectures after the 2nd test & still did fine. The homework & extra quizzes he gave us helped me the most. The hw is easy just tedious. & the ec gives you up to an extra 4% at the end of the sem, def do it!!
Cullivan's a pretty chill dude. His lectures kind of go off topic but the tests are essentially duplicates of questions from homework. He also curves exams which is nice.
I finished this class with a 98%. People that say that this class is difficult and that Cullivan is horrible are just not academically-inclined. As long as you pay attention in lecture and do the extra credit (which are very similar to the exams) you will pass. Do not skip class, pay attention even though it may be boring. He curves the tests.
Do not take this class if you are a bad test taker because your grade is mainly based on tests. Do not skip the lectures and do all of the extra credit if you want to pass his class. His homework is very straightforward just time-consuming if you want to take your time and write good notes.
Awesome dude but lectures are severely boring. Hard to stay focused. The class is very test heavy and you have one hour of homework a week. I personally think attendance is mandatory.
This was my first class at San Diego State as a first-year student, and it failed to meet my expectations. During the lectures, Cullivan tends to ramble off-topic. His lectures aren't mandatory, but it's honestly not a big deal if you don't go. I finished with an A and never went to the lectures. I don't recommend Cullivan as a professor for Econ.
Good Teacher! Most of the grade is based on tests.
I think that Professor Cullivan was a great professor. His lectures got kind of boring, but the material is pretty straightforward. I recommend him if you're gonna take economics. Definitely test heavy, but if you read the textbook and do the homework you'll do fine.
His lectures aren't mandatory he really couldn't care less. He kind of goes off and talks about things that aren't related to the course, more about real world issues with the economy. However, he provides study guides in the modules that will prepare you for the exams. His office hours are helpful and I found his lectures pretty funny.
Economics is not my strong suit but Mr. Cullivan was extremely helpful and caring. I would come up after class and he would breakdown how to better understand the course material. Great professor!!!!
Nice guy. Seems rich. Gives clear lectures but gets side tracked pretty easily. Honestly have no complaints other than your grade is very test heavy. Like 75-80% which makes it really difficult if you fail a test.
His lectures are more engaging than most I've heard before from school. He includes some concerning facts about the basis of macroeconomy, inflation, etc. So he does grab several peoples' attention. And, he's always sticking around to help after a class. Very refreshing to learn from someone that optimistic, actually. Very relatable.
Let me put it this way- if he taught all economics classes required for the major, I would major in Economics. He made the class extremely easy to understand and he is extremely knowledgeable. He KNOWS how to teach and is the best PROFESSOR I've had so far. He knows what he is doing and it makes the class very easy and interesting.
This class was okay. The examples he provided in class did not correlate with the type of questions that would be on the tests. When he would explain the concepts, I would have a clear understanding of what was going on, but his tests would throw me totally irrelevant.
He's very fair, and direct with his syllabus. Just come to class, read the main textbook. Finish any homework plus extra credit. Take practice quizzes that he shares online. Write your own problems from the textbook for more practice. Study a fair amount for tests. Head to his office if you still need help. Nothing more, nothing less.
Lectures consist of whiteboard drawings that are easy to follow, but inaccessible outside of class. Workload is fairly light with a few videos and questions every week. There are 3 exams and an optional final which replaces the lowest exam. However, the final exam score is kept even if it's the lowest itself. Can't go wrong with him for 102
He is mainly test-heavy, worth 80% of your grade. He doesn't post the lectures because they are all handwritten in class on the whiteboard. Use the textbook provided to understand the definitions of keywords. He curves all his tests but difficult at times because of the lack of information provided during lectures. You'll be working more outside
if you miss one class you're screwed lol! he doesn't post any notes, he only draws graphs for notes, and don't even bother going to his office hours because it doesn't help. if you can take ANY other professor you should. nice guy terrible professor.
80% of your grade is from exams, so if you're not a good test taker, maybe pass on him. Show up to class and take notes and put a lot of time into actually studying and you should be able to pass. Try and stay focused in his class, even if his lectures do go off topic/get boring, and do NOT skip any of the classes!!
4 tests that make up your grade: 1=15% and 3=21%, and curves each one HEAVILY. 1 hr of hw each week, and also offers extra credit each week, Up to 4% total. Chill guy, lectures go off-topic sometimes. To get a good grade: Lectures mandatory, extra credit mandatory, do practice quizzes on connect, and study. Super easy and chill, don't lose focus!
He is one of the most helpful professors in SDSU. Complete all extra credit as high of a grade as you can manage. The homework is very clear. Do not miss lectures unless you have an emergency. Take any practice problems offered to study properly. There are Econ101 tutors in Nasatir Hall. No in-class or online quizzes. Just 4 in-person exams.
Although attendance isn't mandatory, he is a great lecturer who makes the material very easy to grasp. The class is very test heavy, but there is some homework and extra credit, as well as practice tests that are useful when studying for the exams. The tests are very fair and relatively easy as long as you study. Would definitely recommend.
He lets people with an emergency or other valid reason reschedule missed exams. He is accessible outside of class. The homework is fair enough to complete, and it's not long to finish. Attendance is NOT mandatory. He does stay behind class to answer any concerns. The textbook we used was just online. He shares practice quizzes for exams. Take him.
He is the worst teacher I've ever had. Do not take unless your prepared to go to ever lecture, take notes on every assignment, and go to tutoring and still don't fully understand the material. His tests are nothing like the lectures and does not even offer a cheat sheet for the amount of concepts on each test. Most likely will have to retake.
This professor is nice. there are three assignments due evryfriday pretty easy, 3 tests, and the finals. He just talks during the whole class so pretty hard to catch onto notes. doest give study guides for the test. basically a self tought class.
He was accessible outside of class, both in person, and online. He let people with a fair excuse reschedule exams. The extra credit is a must. He's not strict, attendance is NOT mandatory. Homework was fair. He made a point to stay behind class and answer questions. The most helpful professor I've taken.
Cullivan is a good professor, but it's hard to focus and understand when it's a huge lecture room and he's moving fast pace. Attendance is not mando. GOING TO APLUS REVIEW WILL SAVE YOUR GRADE. Honestly going and paying attention in class can be enough if you genuinely understand it, if not then going to aplus will save you and u will pass
Unless you are familiar/interested in economics, do not take! I am struggling, all while having tutoring sessions, studying, and completing practice quizzes I found on my own. The course is extremely test heavy, and one test can plumet your grade. The tests, in my opinion, are nothing like the lectures, and notes are impossible to study off.
The class is pretty straightforward - complete the extra credit, do the weekly homework, and study hard for the 4 exams. Definitely attend lectures, as the professor's explanations are helpful. I found unstuckstudy's practice quizzes really useful for test prep.
People have a hard time listening in lectures, so record them. Use Glean. It's hard for some to prepare for tests, so go to A+ Review. Sometimes people arrive late to tests for emergencies, no problem, just email him to take any missed exam on another date. Most helpful & patient professor I ever had.
In class lectures are strictly him writing notes on a whiteboard and are not posted to canvas page so go to class! Work consists of two assignments and an extra credit problem set for each module. Highly recommend taking the practice quizzes as they align with the test questions better than the homework or lecture does.
His lectures are almost the same thing as what they teach you in the Modules. Lectures are definitely not mandatory if you do the modules and really understand them. The modules helped me ace the exams, and I took notes on the videos the modules had.
Most of the people complaining about Cullivan either didn't go to class or pay attention. The grade is very test heavy and the exams are 100% what he goes over in the lectures. If you show up and pay attention, you will do great! Great guy too, responds to emails quickly as well. It would have been helpful to post the lectures on canvas though.
Teach it yourself. Lectures don't really help you with the tests, and you are better off just watching the videos online and making sure you do the extra credit.
This professor's lectures are long and confusing for someone who has never taken ECON. I had to attend every one of his lectures to understand the content minimally. I had to take notes on the homework videos to get a good grade and then go to an A+ tutor for extra help. I spent so much time studying, but the homework barely helped. EC didn't help
Nice guy, I missed an exam once and he was very understanding and I was able to retake, just be sure to communicate asap. However lectures were kind of confusing for someone who's not strong in econ.
I was brand new to econ and really enjoyed this course. Cullivan is very knowledgable and provides great lectures. He also has a sense of humor. Definetly take this class you will come out very strong in econ! His tests can be confusing at times but he provides extra credit throughout the year and holds office hours.
prof cullivan was a good lecturer and made econ easy to understand. attendance not mandatory but if you miss a lecture you will fall behind. there is mcgraw hill homework, tedious but easy. he also offers extra credit assignments for each chapter. four exams, the "final" is just the fourth exam on the last three chapters. easy class if you study
Bets professor I have ever had at SDSU. Took ECON 3 years ago with him but I still remember the course and him. Very succesful guy as well, I recommend talking with him, but it very understanding as well. Tough class especially as a first year but is a very good person and professor.
Professor Cullivan is so understanding if you put in the effort! Econ itself isn't easy so there is that, but overall great professor. I highly recommend this class if you're ok with heavily weighted tests (more than 75% of grade), but it's very doable if you do the homework.
Professor Cullivan was great, his lectures are easy to follow and the homework was very manageable on a week to week basis. He offers extra credit which I recommend doing. The tests were somewhat hard but as long as you understand the material, study the practice tests, and do the homework you should be able to at least pass this class.
This teacher does a terrible job of teaching. His lectures do not help whatsoever, so you're better off teaching the material to yourself with the McGraw-Hill homework system. His grading system is very test-heavy, but the only positives are that the exams are slightly curved, and none of the tests are cumulative.
He is very clear about the class expectations and his lectures are logical and easy to follow. The way he explains things are exactly as they appear on the tests, which are curved. Up to 4% worth of extra credit available. If you are consistent about your studies, this class is a breeze. Would definitely take him again if he taught upper division.
weekly homework assignments, about 2 hours total for all homework each week, tests are pretty difficult and he tends to rant during lectures not quite getting all the material out. he posts online lectures which are more helpful to study for the tests.
I took him for both ECON 101 and 102 because he cares about you learning. The class is pretty straightforward There is weekly homework and videos, 3 exams in the semester, but the exams make up 78% of your grade. Economics is not my subject but if you pay attention in class, study and do the homework you should be fine.
He is a very hard grader and has very few extra credit assignments, and the test is 80% of your grade, so if he doesn't announce it (which happened this year), you might tank your grade! I don't recommend him unless you're constantly prepared. Also, he's lazy, and the tests are from McGraw-Hill, nothing he wrote.
Lots of homework, lectures are long and he tends to rambles sometimes, tests are heavy on your grade, other than that he is a straight forward guy and if you take your time studying for the tests you're good, posts lecture videos and extra credit problem sets, pretty nice guy as well and understanding, but def one of the better econ teachers
Took him 4 times. He is really good at teaching, his lectures are great. Pay attention to lectures and homework (i.e., take notes, make flashcards and do the extra credit) and his class would be a breeze. His office hours are very helpful and encouraging. Plan ahead to do the homework as it is lengthy but not difficult.
Love Cullivan - he actually made economics kinda easy to understand. The weekly ALAs definitely suck and the tests are pretty hard but overall really liked this class. Best econ class I've taken
Cullivans lectures were great as he didn't use powerpoint or slides which made taking notes more engaging as you just wrote down what he was writing during the lecture. The one big turn off that made Cullivans class very challenging was that the test category was almost 80% of your grade. If you put in the time to actually study an A is attainable
Took 101/2 simultaneously with him and he is a great professor. With that being said, his due dates are ridiculous (Fridays) giving you ONE day to do stuff once it's fully covered by Thursday. Bring a physical notebook with colored pens and study 2-3 hours for tests the day before and it's an A. He's really cool and hilarious though.
Just don't do it.
The class is extremely weighted with exams- they are 78% of your grade and you can't use notes on them. Unless u were born with Econ engraved in your memory prepare to pass with a C at best
Very test-heavy, 3 exams with 1 final. All multiple-choice questions and scores are curved. One test is worth 21% of your grade. The tests have questions directly from practice quizzes, and homework is all McGraw Hill. Teaches for about 10 minutes and yaps for the rest of the time. Need to put a lot of time into studying on your own!
He was fine as a professor, I have nothing against the way he teaches. So much homework every week, and I believe you have to pay to even submit the homework. Some exam questions are easy but some are really tricky, so it's really difficult to get consistent A's on the exams. I don't recommend this class unless youre really into economics.
Professor Cullivan does not provide the information in his lectures that actually shows up on the test. In order to pass the 4 tests that are each at least 20% of your grade, you have to teach yourself all of the material outside of class. Use the practice quizzes before tests as there are some of the same questions on both.
Pretty nice guy and engages with students during class. 30% of his lectures are teaching material and rest is him yapping. About 1-2 hours of HW every week and you will be teaching yourself all of it. Exam questions do contain some questions from the practice exams. Not the worst econ professor but it is hard to understand material.
About an hour of HW every week, gives you extra credit every week that adds up an extra 4%. Teaches for half the class, yaps for half the class. Just study and do his practice exams and you'll probably get a B on all exams. Econ is just math heavy, which is something you cant change. HW and practice tests are just like the midterms.
I found his lectures to be very interesting. Rather than just showing slides and regurgitating the info, he would relate the material with how the country functions. I recommend using his office hours as he provided very clear guidance and help with the topics.
There's no need to show up to the lectures. All of the content on tests is in McGraw and the practice tests, plus he just yaps for a lot of the class and overcomplicates things sometimes. Class is boring, content can be monotonous, but that's just econ in general. A lot easier compared to the other econ professors, though.
This professor was a chill guy, I don't hate his personality and his lectures aren't awful. HOWEVER what he lectures is not what is on the test and tests are worth 80% of your entire grade. There is also so much homework that is worth NOTHING and nothing in this class makes any sense. I am an A student and I got a C+
I am a typical A-B student. This is the first C I have ever received, tests are worth your entire grade pretty much. He tends to ramble a lot and his lectures barley prepare you for the test. Also this class was hybrid this year, which was very difficult for the zoom never worked. He was okay, don't recommend however could have been worse.
Lectures aren't mandatory since all the material can be learned completing the McGraw assignments. Exams heavily influence final grades. Exam material can be hard since the assignments don't closely align with the exam questions, especially when applying formulas.
