I have very much enjoyed Mark as a lab instructor (TA). Sometimes the lab procedures/instructions change or are a bit ambiguous, but he's very approachable and willing to work with those who need assistance. The class is 3hrs, but can be VERY time-consuming when it comes to the pre/postlaboratory reports. Great TA, even as a (post?)grad student!
Definitely recommend him.the best Ta for chem 1 lab!!
You can definitely tell this professor knows his stuff, but he's terrible at explaining it in a way that's easy to understand. He throws A LOT of information at you at once and breezes through the chapters like it's ABC's (but guess what, not everyone thinks Chem is easy!). Tons of pop quizzes and memorization involved if you want to pass. Avoid.
Davidson is a great guy, and cares a lot about your learning. The slides are posted. Homework and quizzes are done online (best out of three attempts on each). Four tests, drops one and then the final. He was clear about his expectations. I am not very good at chemistry but maintained a B all year long. 710
I'm not the best at Chem but I got a B overall. Do the homeworkquizzes online, do the chapter reviews in the books, and make sure you KNOW the steps involved in each question. 4 exams + final. Lots and lots of converting problems on exams so make sure you know how to do those. Go over slides & read the book. Cool guy, but chemistry is hard.
Love chemistry but he is just not clear. Confuses you more rather than teaching you directly.
Prof Davidson's class is one of the easiest classes I have ever taken, literally like a high school class. He stops and makes sure that everyone is up to speed, and gives you the answers during Extra Credit and iClicker questions, yet people still manage to get it wrong. Just pay attention and go to class and you'll be fine. Highly recommend him
Tough teacher but he makes the class fun and interesting. He explains things in a way that the class can easily relate and he's HILARIOUS! There are random iClicker questions through the classes (mostly for attendance partially for a small bonus grade) and he goes over the reivews for the test the class before.
Davidson is a really cool guy, but honestly I learn more by reading the book and his power points(which are excellent and very thorough by the way!) than I do from him. He makes it easy to pass his class in that he provides several "cushion" assignments which serve as easy grade boosters. He gives extra credit which is great! Take his class!
Professor Davidson is confusing! spits out tons of information each class so you CANT MISS. test are hard. it takes a lot of self studying! most hwks, quizzes, & exams, are one shot so you need to understand when you take them! I need to give him credit for offering extra credit but he really has no mercy on tests! All & All I don't recommend...
Haven't finished the semester yet, but overall he is a pretty good professor. Goes off on tangents at some points, but other than that lectures are clear and informational. Tells you what to expect on test and has reviews before hand. Quizzes can be hard because of how case sensitive Sapling is, but are still manageable.
He may not be the best at explaining things thoroughly, but he's a great instructor in that he genuinely wishes success for all of his students and gives plenty of opportunities to do so. You just have to be willing to do WORK.
Extra credit available for every chapter, he goes over the tests afterwards so you learn why you didn't get the answer right. Does daily Iclicker questions so you HAVE to go to class
Davidson knows what he's talking about but he can't teach. This semester we've taken 3 tests already for the class and 2 out of the 3 tests, the average for the class has been failing. If you do take this class, attend it because he does iclicker and occasional reviews/pop quizzes that are for points. Extra credit is basically mandatory.
Class is hard, but interesting. He makes you work for a good grade and he motivates you to work for it. Gives a lot of extra credit and drops lowest test grade out of four. Attend SI sessions to understand better. Homework has 3 attempts and quizzes have one attempt. Give him a shot and pay attention! He's nice.
Professor Davidson is the best! He cares about actually teaching the class and wants students to learn the material. He will go over things in class if you ask him to. I went to his office hours a few times and he would literally sit there with me for an hour going over problems I had trouble with. He gives tons of extra credit and its easy to pass
I still remembered chemistry from my high school days, so this class honestly wasn't tough for me. He lectures with powerpoint in background for note-taking. He emphasizes to not make certain mistakes on tests that students always make. If he repeats something, remember it! Start off strong and you'll be fine, I promise! Drops lowest test grade. :D
really good teacher . he cares about his students and offers so much extra credit and test curves tests are not very long if you know what you're doing. requires an iclicker 2
Talks too much/too fast in his lectures to the point where its more confusing than helpful. Tests are a bit bogus because you only get a short amount of time and the questions are long enough so that most will not finish. Certain assignments require EXACT matches (i.e. answer can either be 7.0 or 7.1, but 7.05 is wrong even if it is most accurate).
There's easier teachers here at UTSA for basic chem.. I recommend anyone other than Davidson. His test for ten times harder than any other basic chem teacher. I know that Gold lets you work on part b section of tests with other students. Overall, he was a good professor but really had to work for your grade. Tests were hard af but drops the lowest.
Professor Davidson teaches a little to quick for my pace, it took me awhile before I got use to it. If you are a freshman this class can be a little difficult. But his lectures are clear and concise. Make a few friends in that class, so u can discuss clicker questions with. He cares about his students and their grades, so he offers extra credit.
Davidson's class was easy coming from someone who actually tries. Lectures weren't boring and he kept you engaged with iclicker questions (for a grade), offers extra credit which really helps on tests since questions are styled the same, & gives 1 HW (w 2 retakes) and 1 quiz per chapter (4 per semester) on sapling. Take him!!
Prof. Davidson is a really cool guy, but not the best professor. He does know his stuff, but tends to look down on you if you ask a question. He thinks your supposed to know it all already. He does however give a ton of extra credit and iClicker points. Attendance isnt mandatory. You have to pay attention to lecture and homework to do well on exams
Great prof, easy A if you show up, no textbook necessary- everything is on the powerpoint slides. He's funny and super helpful. Everything he teaches he is very clear about and genuinely cares about your grade. Easiest A for me this semester!
Cool teacher, pretty laid back. Come to class, take notes and study and you will probably make a good grade. To get an A, you might have to put in a little more study time but it so worth it. He's funny and sarcastic but if you ask for help, he'll be more than happy to help. Don't buy the textbook, you don't need it to pass.
Very helpful instructor; however, sometimes you feel rushed by how quickly he moves through topics. If he says you need to memorize something specific... DO IT! Otherwise you'll have a tough time passing his exams.
Professor Davidson's lecture consist of what he puts up on his powerpoint presentations. He's really good at dumbing down the subject so that chemistry-dummies like me understand the material. He also puts up extra credit on blackboard and sometimes in class using i-clickers. Tests are easy A's if you study and know how to problems from the ppt.
Show up to class, and listen in on the lecture. He is easy to understand. Do not expect an easy A, do your homework and study for the tests and you will not have a problem getting an A! Otherwise, if you skip, decide not to study and other... (in general) quit college while you can. You have to work for a good grade.
Homework tips: on Sapling, he has homework for each chapter and 2 retakes with just different numbers, So pull up a homework page and a retake one, one of them will be wasted for free answer and explanation and the other one will be your "real" one for the grades. Iclicker questions for every lectures. Each tests has 20 +1bonus questions. Finals 50
Honestly, the course it's self easy A. I took AP Chemistry in high school and I feel this course only covered the first week in there plus some. So if that's you, try to test out of it ASAP. If not, go to class or not (iClicker points everyday), read over the powerpoints, do some practice, do the online hwk & quizzes and you should be golden.
He uses the iClicker to take attendance and every test. All of the homework and quizzes are online on Sapling. The final is 40% of your final grade. Chemistry is tough but if you do all the assignments you should fine. He drops the lowest test grade which you'll be thankful for. I didn't find him very helpful but the class wasn't too bad.
I learned through the SI because she was amazing. He is not a very hard teacher at all, but sometimes he get a little ahead of himself in teaching and expects you to know things. you will have to do work outside of class in order to pass. he does give extra credit for each test as well as reviews, so he gives you all tools to pass just use them .
Mr. Davidson was pretty awesome. He uses i-clicker every class and thats how he takes attendance, plus it counts as a grade. Third and Fourth tests were the hardest, but he drops one so it gives you some cushion. He wants to make sure you pass so he gives a lot of extra credit, hw, and gives you chances to do them. funny guy but kinda stressful.
Davidson was great, even though a lot of people find chemistry to be really hard, he made everything very easy to understand. He does iClicker questions every day, but they were nothing too hard and you would still get points even if you got all of them wrong. Tests were super easy and all on the iClicker as well.
Professor Davidson is a really good teacher. Even though he may be confusing at times, he really loves teaching chemistry. However, chemistry is a hard subject and he makes you work for your grade. Overall, this class was very math-oriented. Be prepared to do A LOT of conversions!
Davidson is an amazing professor. Definitely was my favorite class for the semester. Basic chem is easy and the homework and quizzes online are helpful. He gives extra credit as well. He doesn't count attendance but he uses the iclicker every class and its for a grade so go to class! Take him!!!
he makes everything really clear, theres no reason for you to not know about a homework or something because he is constantly remind you. he doesnt take attendance but you want to go to class because he gives pop quizzes with the iclicker. You can make an A but work for it and do all your homework! timed quizzes, ewwww!
I totally dislike chemistry, but the way he taught makes me want to take it again. he makes the lectures pretty entertaining with his humor. the tests aren't too bad, it always has a bonus question, gives extra points on i-clicker questions, and the gives us 3 chances on the homework to make better grades
I took basic chemistry with Davidson and passed with a high C, but now I'm in his general chemistry I and the lecture is moving really fast. In order to pass this class you have to keep up with the material and understand it otherwise you will fail because the material builds on itself and if you don't know it, you can't move on.
Davidson's CHE1103 wasn't easy, BUT he prepares you very well for the ACS. He is very fair. Everything is on his power point, but practice is key in chem. Do the homework slowly and understand all the concepts and that should prepare you for his test. You have to show up to every class because of Iclicker. Overall, I would recommend for CHE1103!
Course is clear and do-able, but getting an A is a challenge and he isnt always clear on many of the concepts. You need to do a lot of the work yourself. The homework CANT be left til the days before, its long af. Start early in the unit and make sure to get an A.
His tests are extremely hard. However, he is also one of the best teachers I have had since I started college, and if you can even get a C on his tests, you will get an A on the ACS (which is a very large amount of the grade). He is also extremely helpful and helps accommodate real life circumstances.
Prof Davidson is a really good teacher. I have him for basic chem and he keeps his lectures interesting and funny. Tests are only 20 questions and he puts 1 bonus at the end. He gives you points for iClickers and posts extra credit assignments often. I am already signed up to take him for gen chem 1 and am praying he teaches gen chem 2 lol
Professor Davidson is an amazing professor! I used to hate chemistry in high school but the way he taught was so fun and easy to understand that now I can say I love chem! Tests are super easy if you go to class and pay attention. Everything you need for the class are in his powerpoints. He also gives out plenty of extra credit to help out!
Great teacher!!! I can honestly say he made chem so much easier for me! I've never been good at chem so thank god for davidson!! Gives many extra credit opportunities and tests aren't hard if you study or have a clear understanding on the chapter.
Great professor! However, if you find Chemistry easy and don't NEED to attend lectures to do well in the exams, his class isn't right for you because every lecture he has a couple i-Clicker questions. I got 100% for the first two exams and got a B for my midterm because I skipped class. Don't be stupid like me!
Professor Davidson was one of my favorite teachers this semester. I recently switched my major from business to bio and haven't taken a science class since my junior year of high school. I did very well in his class and he is so funny. Would definitely recommend him to anyone and look forward to taking him again.
Professor Davidson is great! His lectures are easy to understand and posts the lectures on blackboard. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does ask questions with the i-Clicker for a grade. His tests are 20 questions and with a bonus question. He always gives out extra credit.
Professor Davidson is AMAZING!!! He has been my favorite professor so far. His powerpoints are crazy helpful and detailed. If you go through his powerpoints and UNDERSTAND them, you'll get A's on the test. Its not a difficult class but none of the content is intuitive, so you have to study. TAKE HIM!!!
Professor Davidson is the best at chemistry. Shows many examples to provide insight and clarity on each lecture. Beware of pop quiz's and study every powerpoint daily to be familiar with info. If you want an "A" study at least an hour a day an your good. Easy Class overall. Thanks Davidson, see you in General Chemistry Next Semester!
He was very easy to understand during lecture and he explained tests after we took them.
Professor Davidson is very lenient and gives you a lot of breaks even though this class is ridiculously easy he still drops your lowest test and assignments. He does not try to make the content harder than it is like most university professors. He is witty and interesting to listen to. Take him and just try a little bit and you've got an A!
Take this professor!!! He's gives very engaging lectures, his tests are straightforward and he gives extra credit. He's extremely understanding and genuinely cares about his students and teaching. Studying outside of class is imperative, however his slides are super detailed so you probably don't need the textbook.
Davidson was my favorite professor. He made class interesting and fun. His lectures where on par with the textbook but he broke it down to make it even easier to understand. He also gave out several extra credit opportunities and dropped the lowest of the 4 tests he gave. As long as you put in the work, the class will be easy.
Best Chem teacher at UTSA, no doubt, easy to understand.
He is a great professor. If you go to class and pay attention to his lectures you will pass. He is very good about telling you when things are due and if there are any changes. If you review the test reviews befroe the tests and do the homework, you will do great. He wants you to do good so he help you out! He is awsome!!
Davidson is great at explaining the material in the most simplified way and then builds off into the more difficult concepts. Chemistry is not easy and Davidson makes it easy with the way he instructs the course. He provides more than enough opportunity to grasp the material. If you don't pass, it is NOT Davidson's fault.
If you go to class and do his reviews then it's easy to make an A or B if you don't want to try a little harder. I've taken him for 2 semesters(basic chem and gen chem1) and he's great.
Honestly I think the only reason I passed was because of the SI Izunna, bless that man, a chemistry angel sent from heaven. I had him fall semester 2016 and the class wasn't difficult but you definitely have to make an effort or you wont pass.
Go to office hours because he will help you! He's an amazing teacher and I really did learn this semester. JUST GO TO OFFICE HOURS at the minimum two times
if you do not go to class you will loose out on tons of points for i clicker questions and it can change your grade drastically. ACS is not bad. Just DO NOT JUST study ACS review he gives you. you need to study all the powerpoints to get an A in the class. I had an A up until ACS and then i got an 77 pct on acs. i went from A to B.
Great Prof. He really knows his stuff. Grading criteria is clear and a 75 is considered a B. It is a hard class but if you show up and do the homework it is pretty easy to pass.
Professor Davidson really wants you to understand the material and does an excellent job of preparing you for the ACS! He gives extra credit opportunities whenever he can. His lectures are never boring, and he tries not to take himself too seriously. Attendance is mandatory as he has several i-Clicker questions throughout the class period.
Great instructor! I have taken him for Basic Chem & Gen Chem 1 and passed both with good grades. His powerpoints are amazing, he takes a lot of time & effort in making them. He genuinely cares and wants you to pass. He does his best to describe everything to where you can understand. He offered extra credit & his expectations were very clear.
He makes chemistry fun and understandable
The class was pretty easy to get through and contains a lot of memorization but if you study consistently you will be fine for about 75% of the test, the other 25% is going to be what we learned in the lecture in terms of formulas and equations but more difficult.
The class was pretty easy to get through and contains a lot of memorization but if you study consistently you will be fine for about 75% of the test, the other 25% is going to be what we learned in the lecture in terms of formulas and equations but more difficult. The book is not needed in terms of reading but you do need the codes included.
Powerpoint lectures are available before hand. Uses Mastering Chemistry for the homework assignments. Homework is due the day of exam. Highest of 3 attempts is your grade. Gives extra credit opportunities. Takes time to explain or clarify in class. Gives assignments to help with practice. He seems to enjoy teaching.
He interacts and wants his students to pass. Although chemistry is a hard subject no matter what, he makes it seem not so difficult. If you pay attention in lectures, study for the tests, and do the homework, you will have a decent grade. Multiple people have hundreds. Plus, he gives a lot of extra credit!
I doubt every person here got an A. Drones, took the class. Was bad experience teach yourself with e book and practice problems. He goes over no equations the harder stuff but, expects you to know.
Very funny guy, knows what he's talking about. It's Chem so don't expect an easy A, but overall you should be ok.
Tests are HARD! Talks fast and covers a LOT!!! Problems on the test match homework, but you need to know everything about how to do them. CHEM TWO IS HARD!!! If you study everyday after class you can get an A, otherwise this is not a blowoff class! He's super sweet and cares about everyone, but you have to focus!!! ACS final and he drops a test &hw
Overall good professor. He gives good test reviews but once it was off from his test. Pop quizzes are a form of praise from him. If you're class is ahead of lecture schedule, you get a pop quiz.
If anyone knows how to teach chemistry it is definitely professor Davidson. He was by far my favorite professor simply because he knows what he is talking about. You need to pay attention though because he covers alot and loves to talk fast. He's also super funny and loves to show pictures of his new born on his slides. would definitely take again
Amazing lecture, his class is very interesting and easy to understand, especially for international students. Prof Davidson put a lot of work into his powerpoint and his explanation of the material. Watch out for the test of what he tells you not to do. He has a lot of office hours so make sure to reach out to him if you need help!
He is really nice. If you get A on the final and B on the average of test he will give you A on Final grade and so on.
Professor Davidson is heaven sent! He gives amazing in class lectures hes very animated and will stop lecture to explain things. He gives plenty of extra credit! There are lots of pop quizzes but dont let that scare you he also gives an extensive test review. Chemistry is a difficult subject but Davidson makes it a bit easier!
Professor Davidson is really good at teaching this course. Seriously. He explains everything so thoroughly that I didn't have any trouble passing his class. I-clickers are used during class and counts as attendance, so make sure to be there. He takes three out the four exams during the semester and there's a final, which is cumulative.
Davidson gives you many chances to pass the class if you put in the effort. If you don't study over his slides and homework, you are doomed.
Professor Davidson is a great professor. I had him for both basic chem and gen chem 1. His powerpoints are straightforward but you need to study them in advanced to do well on the tests as well as practice problems. He may curve tests if the class overall does poorly and/or give extra credit assignment. If you put in the effort then you will pass.
Prof. Davidson is great for Gen. Chem I. Although getting an A or whatever grade you're striving for is definitely doable, the grade is by no means handed to you. This is definitely a class where your grade will reflect your effort. Waiting until the last minute to study or complete homework is not an option in this class. 10/10 would recommend.
Best chem professor at UTSA
Take him. By far the best of the best
As long as you go to class, do quizzes/homework, and listen to him you will pass! I suck at chem and I made a B, he actually knows how to explain the content! Awesome professor!
Davidson is absolutely great, and gives you many chances. Study, and put in the work. He doesnt hand you the grade.
Fantastic professor, super easy, you really learn all the material and the criteria for the class is really fair and clear. I wish he taught upper division lectures! He's also really nice
Davidson is the best chem professor ive had at UTSA. He makes chemistry super easy to understand for someone who is not a chem major. You definitely have to work for your grade, but out of all the gen chem 1 professors take him 100% no question. He is super underrated and people dont give him enough credit.
hes a really cool dude and tries to make lecture fun. hw and quizzes are due test day so get them done well before. he makes his own powerpoints which are super helpful for the test. he drops one test but now we have to take an intro test the 2nd week and usually thats the worst grade.1 extra cred on the test. ATTEND class its an iclicker grade
Makes lectures interesting and keeps your attention on the topic. Drops lowest exam which helps in the end along with some other low assignments.
He is a energetic professor which makes his lectures bearable. His tests are average but you have to study outside of class for sure. Attendance is mandatory but just keep in mind chemistry is a challenging course in general. But the professor is not that bad, you just need to appreciate chemistry as a whole to get a good grade.
I took Davidson for Gen Chem 1 and he was an amazing professor! He not only broke the concepts down to beginner understanding but he was also hilarious. The tests were kind of difficult because he wasn't the only one making them. There was a long period of time before every hw was due so don'y wait til last minute! Always go to class for iclickers.
Prof. Davidson is an amazing gen chem. instructor and he makes much of the material easier to understand. That being said, this is a tough course so do not rely simply on going to class as you will need to put hours into reading and practicing to improve, also iclicker q's can be real point boosters. One easy way to fail is not to try, so try lol.
This class has way more work than it should especially for those who only need one Chemistry class, too much work, made very complicated than it should. Its general it should be a lot more easier than what it is. The professor knows the material well, but the amount of work put in for this course is worthless.
He's a swell guy. Tests are based off lecture powerpoints and he makes lectures enjoyable and funny.
Professor Davidson is very energetic and tries to make chemistry the easiest class possible, but sadly, the tests are very complicated in this class. Lots of work outside the class needs to be done especially reading the textbook.
Professor Davidson is a great professor and genuinely tries to make chemistry fun. Make sure to attend all of his lectures or you might just fall behind. The only thing is his test are way harder than the material we practice on, but are not that crazy. Pass the final and he won't fail you.
Good professor but you have to work hard for your grade. It is not given to you and he doesn't offer any extra credit. To pass the test you need to study all the material and for sure go to the STARR sessions the tutors really do help!I barely got a B and focused most of my efforts on this class so it is a lot of work to get the grade you want.
Professor Davidson is an amazing lecturer. He is animated and makes it easy to follow along. His powerpoints are detailed and essential when studying for the exams. As someone who doesn't necessarily love chemistry, he really motivated me to learn.
If you're taking Gen Chem, good luck. It's just hard to understand and he breaks it down well. He's funny, but he goes really quick on his lectures so pay attention. If you don't do the homwork ahead of time, good luck, make sure to get 100 on all of it because that's the only thing saving your grade. The tests are really hard so study a lot.
Davidson is great. Of course, chemistry is going to be hard, but he makes class way less boring than it could be. The homework he gives is harder than what is on the exams so it makes exams easier. He takes iClicker attendance, and there's a learnsmart, homework, and a quiz for each chapter, but if you do good on those it really helps your grade.
Take him!!!! Amazing professor and makes difficult topics easy. Timings kinda suck but its worth it. Study a week in advance for tests and itl will be easy.
Solid choice for professor. Found him to move pretty fast during lectures so it makes it hard to follow what's going on but it's chemistry so that's partly unavoidable. Tests are pretty hard but if you study you should be fine.
Every day I drove to class without a seat belt, hoping I would not make it.
Great professor but his lectures will only take you so far. Study from the book and look at his reviews.
Hes not a bad professor at all I just dreaded the class itself so much. He does lecture quickly and youre expected to be on top of things all the time (obviously) and kind of scolds you for not knowing how to do something that you learned in a previous class.
Davidson was one of the best professors I've had. He posts his PowerPoints on blackboard and are easy to follow during lectures. The tests are pretty hard but as long as you study well you're fine.
He's an incredible professor, because he wants his students to understand the concepts so he gives a lot of tips and great examples that help understand. His Powerpoints are so helpful & he posts them on BB. He's easy to reach outside of class & is always helpful. Exams are pretty tough, but if you study & practice, you're good.
Great professor all around, but moves quickly in lectures and expects you to know the material that is taught pretty quickly. If you don't understand what is going on in class you will fail the test if you don't study and prepare well. Gives good practice and the study sessions that the tutors offer really do help! highly recommend him.
Davidson is a good teacher who puts effort into making sure his students are getting the info needed. Chem in general is hard, and he does a good job explaining the concepts but its mostly you learning on your own. there are a ton of grades so one bad grade wont kill you. he drops a test, and some other smaller grades.
He's an amazing professor, I took him for intro to chemistry and his lectures are really helpful. He even let me retake my exam after I encountered some technological issues. Would definitely recommend!
i took ap chem and got a 4 but this class was still really hard and took a lot of work, but other than homework and quizzes (1 per chapter but don't procrastinate) theres not much homework. material isn't that bad but tests are stressful and hard to get As on. even if you fail every test if you pass the final he'll pass you for sure
Prof. Davidson made the lectures interesting. Although, he expects his students to know the material before teaching it. He would give a basic explanation in class then have extremely difficult problems on the quiz that he did not go over. He even told students that if they don't know some of the material in the beginning of class to drop the class
Amazing Professor! Definitely lucky to have him as a professor during my freshman year. Prof. Davidson is an awesome lecturer. He has a way of teaching that makes you listen to him and he also explains every topic perfectly. You definitely have to pay attention and attend his class because that will help you get an A.
Professor Davidson is amazing! His lectures are mandatory, but really engaging. To pass all you need to do is pay attention in class and study the PowerPoints (never read the book ). He uses Proctorio (in class and online classes) but the exams are pretty straightforward.
Professor Davidson is funny and a very good teacher he is good at keeping students engaged.
Professor Davidson was terrible at answering emails and response is always sorry I can't help you your gonna have to figure it out. He was nice in person but only had him once a week and was rushing through whole chapters each time.
If you have the opportunity of taking him.. DO IT! He goes pretty fast over the material but he still teaches pretty fast so it is good to have the foundations down! Also he does give out a lot of homework but it helps for practice because it took like 10 to 15 minutes to complete it. If you need extra help, read the book it is very helpful.
This class wasn't the easiest for me because chemistry is one of my weaker subjects but Professor Davidson was pretty good at teaching the content. He gives many examples and also provides us with pre-exam reviews. He also had a sense of humor which made the lectures more engaging, although he does move through topics pretty fast.
I absolutely love professor Davidson! If you ever get the chance to take him for a class, DO IT! I was worried about taking organic chem 1 lab, and he made it very enjoyable. Every week you will have a quiz along with a lab report. The lab reports were very easy to do because he provides you with a template on what you need to have and write about!
Great Professor and lots of chemistry puns! The class does move lowkey fast but Professor Davidson explains everything clearly and wants to help his students understand the concepts. It is quiz and test heavy but he does usually offer extra credit and drops the lowest test grade at the end of the semester.
It might have been that the lectures were only once a week and only an hour long, but there was a lot of information crammed into the lectures. You are gonna rely on the textbook to do homework, but the test are usually much harder than both the review and book. So it'll be best to go to tutoring sessions if you are falling behind and study with TA
Super cool dude! I am probably gonna take him next fall. Classes were only once a week which kind of sucks so do your best to show up. Also, you will fall behind if you don't read the textbook. Never had an issue with him regarding emails or anything else. Overall he is a good professor and just wants you to pass his class.
Great lectures, tests aren’t extremely hard, as long as you study for the tests, you will pass! Very few hw assignments. Quiz in book for every chapter. Only thing i didn’t like was the iclicker being mandatory.
IF YOU CAN TAKE HIM, TAKE HIM! He's the best professor I had this semester. He genuinely cares about his students and his teaching is very to the point. He takes his time to explain things to make students understand. He truly just wants students to succeed. I hate chemistry but he made it so much easier to understand just because of how he teaches
Davidson is the best chem teacher out there, youll need an iclicker so get one IMMEDIATELY, after chapter 4 things do get hard. youll also have to buy a $113 textbook so be ready. Hes great and nice and talks about his kids often
Davidson is a fantastic professor! He made concepts easy to understand and gave great resources for practicing problems. I never considered myself a chemistry person, but he changed that! If you show up to class and practice outside of the lecture, exams are easy (but you really gotta practice until you understand). The book was very helpful too!
Professor Davidson is good because he provides reviews for exams and is helpful in office hours. He is very fast paced, so you have to do a lot of studying on your own time if you want to do well in this class. There was hw everyday for ALEKS and a few other assignments as well. Take Davidson bc he is the best of the best
He WILL NOT let you fail. Truly cares for his students, offers extra credit and even those not passing he gave a C, he understands chemistry is hard and is willing to help. He lectures during class and does iclicker over things in class.
From the first day of class I knew I liked Davidson as a professor. Most of the lecture is going over his slides, but they are very comprehensive. You have to be in class to do the 1-3 iclicker questions per class, but they are really easy. He responds to emails and is available. Davidson loves chemistry and almost made me like chem.
Professor Davidson's lectures are clear and he always knows exactly what topics students are going to struggle with. Lots of homework, but it's manageable and the lectures make it way easier.
He is one of the best professors at UTSA. He examples everything perfectly and is willing to help students understand what we are going over. His assignments and tests are easy. He does test reviews and emphasizes what will be on the test. He does offer extra credit for doing ALEKS every day.
Professor Davidson is an extraordinary instructor. Excellent lecturer, empathetic towards students, motivating when topics are tough, and above all his professionalism is outstanding. I wish that he taught all levels of chemistry so I could take every one of his classes until I graduate. He made chemistry exciting in lab, and lecture!
Professor Davidson is tough I won't lie. You are required to do book homework, ALEKs, and his assigned homework. It dos seem like a lot, but I promise if you put in the effort it is not hard. Davidson is an amazing professor; he teaches you everything you need to know. He is my favorite professor I've ever taken. Don't be put off by the work!!
Professor Davidson is legit, he runs a great lecture and is very animated. He knows who does and does not put in the effort. I would recommend him over any other professor in the department. You need to complete ALEKS in order to do well. Read his slides and do his review before the tests. You will do well if you use all the resources he gives you.
Professor Davidson is in all honesty the best chem professor you could pick; he will teach the class with the most positive energy and make the material understandable even to a dog. Pick him over any other teacher and i assure you will pass with a good grade, iclickers every lecture so be ready and if it doesnt have a charge its not an ion!
BEST professor I have ever taken! I have always struggled with chem but Davidson made it very easy to succeed. His lectures are not monotone. He is very accessible outside of class and always willing to help. He does not curve or round up & his tests are not easy BUT he prepares you well and is always willing to answer questions and help you learn
Professor Davidson is the best lab professor I have ever taken thus far. His lectures made organic chemistry make more sense, the labs were interactive, and the exams were easy, depending on how well you prepared for it. I 1000% recommend taking Professor Davidson!!!
If you can TAKE HIM because he has been one of the best professors I have taken this semester and truly cares for his students & will try to help you pass, even if you're failing. He provided extra credit on each exam if we did ALEKS everyday & extra assignments, but make sure to put in effort & study. I never thought I would get an A in this class
iclicker questions count as daily participation (very easy). His test reviews help prepare for tests; the tests are straightforward. The homework load is very manageable. Professor Davidson is approachable and helpful, he explains the content very well.
Professor Davidson is easily the best professor I've had. He is funny and cares about his students and the content. You do have to do a lot of ALEKS but it actually helps you learn. As long as you take notes and do the ALEKS you should get a decent grade on tests and in the class.
I just absolutely love this professor. Chemistry is such a difficult subject and he makes it so simple. Awesome professor and I cant imagine taking this course with any other professor. You can tell he loves what he does and it shows. Super chill. 10/10.
Enthusiastic teacher, but slightly difficult at times. I-clicker was required, ALEKS assignments are tedious. Random assignments almost weekly. Often too much enthusiastic for class. He cares about the students. If you can, just take the ALEKS course online
Was very surprised by how bad the class is since I've only ever heard good things about Professor Davidson. So far half of the Fall 2023 semester is over and I've only received feedback for 2/5 labs we've already completed. The feedback is unhelpful since by the time you get anything back your on the next unit and he'll dock points without reason.
He is very good in lecture and is always available to answer questions. In terms of teaching, he is great. My qualms come with grading and attendance. His attendance policy is very harsh in chem lab, and there is a ton of work for this 1 credit class. Writing assignments are graded very strictly, and we still only have feedback for 4 of the 8 labs.
This professor is very very enthusiastic but he really does care. Participation is key, if you go to his hours and you ask questions and youre fully engaged you should be fine. notes are lengthy and kind of hard to follow if you arent in class for him to explain them to you but he does a good job. Iclicker and aleks required. but i enjoyed his clas
I love how enthusiastic Prof. Davidson is!! I would recommend starting days in advance on the ALEKS, it's definitely not something you can wait till the last minute! Attendance is mandatory, if you get the question wrong he still gives you some I-Clicker points for attempting. He has 5 exams today and I thought they were hard.
Best prof in the department! Engaging lectures and he cares for students. Daily iClicker questions about the material to take attendance. Tests are in person and with iClicker. Uses the exact top 5 missed questions from past tests on the next test. Good at giving examples to teach the material. Very lengthy and required ALEKS every week. Love him!!
Chemistry makes me cry, but Prof. Davidson made chemistry not so bad, he's very passionate and enthusiastic about chemistry, I may say he might be on the spectrum.... but that adds character. iClicker is required for his course, as he takes attendance with iClicker questions.
I was shocked by the near 5.0 score he has. I liked him, he was very funny and I can tell he cares about his students, but I felt like the way he taught was much too erratic for my tastes. He did not prepare us very well for the exams, I felt. However, as a person I very much enjoyed him.
Davidson's class was great, however his tests were tough. He talks fast and gives off really good energy in class which makes the class more bearable. He gives out reviews and practice. UTILIZE THE RESOURCES THAT HE GIVES YOU!! He is overall a great professor and I recommend everyone to take him.
Prof. Davidson definitely does not make Chemistry easy and he is honest about how it will only get more difficult. He is energetic and very kind, but also blunt and serious about his course. Grades are dropped at the end and he will make a deal with his students for the final exam to pass as many people as possible. Hope to have him for Gen. Chem!
First of all if you have any type of PTSD do not take his class! He yells a LOT in his lectures but aside from that, he will try to trick you on the exams and barley gives enough time to answer everything anyways. I want to believe he is a good prof but in all honesty he doesn't even teach the material, so good luck learning this stuff on your own!
Lots of people hyped him up in basic chem but his teaching for gen chem 2 was not the best. I feel like I taught myself most of the material and he just read off the slides most of the time. He didn't give reviews that were reflective of the exams. We had to rely on a TA to teach us. He's alright but overhyped.
He was incredibly overhyped from his teaching in Basic Chemistry. However, he is merely alright in Gen Chem II, as he hasn't taught it in a hot bit. His review and practice questions are incredibly easy compared to the test questions, which leads to some dissonance. The Gen Chem II TA basically carries the class..
Dr. Davidson is a great instructor. I had him for lab lecture, and he made the topics very understandable. Attendance is required, but he only has one iClicker question per lecture. Grading is also very lenient and he tells you exactly what to write to get a 100 on assignments.
Davidson was a great professor. I personally liked his style of teaching as he tried to make it as engaging as possible. Attendance is mandatory through iClicker. Tests were particularly difficult as he didn't post very thorough test reviews so I had to rely on the TA mostly for those. Overall, he was funny and nice and I would take him again.
This was a new course for him titled "The Chemistry of Cooking" with the honors college. Now, I am an art student and had no background in chemistry, but he did his best to make it engaging and to get us all to participate. We had lecture and lab classes every other week and it was nice to have a different style of class.
Ridiculous amount of busy work, I didn't come to college to run around campus doing scavenger hunts along with other obscene busy work. Homework is expected EVERY SINGLE DAY, on top of multiple weekly quizzes. Also expect to spend a couple hundred on the textbook and Iclicker, which are a mandatory for the class. Passionate professor, terrible clas
Prof. Davidson's class is a real challenge, but his enthusiasm makes it bearable. Utilize the practice materials and ALEKS - they're essential for keeping up. While tests are tough, unstuck study helped me prepare and stay on top of the material.
A really good professor. He motivates people to do well and makes you love chemistry. He is also extremely fair at grading. I 100% recommend him; you won't be sorry!
He's a very energetic professor, but I think he should focus less on the “I don't like for my students to memorize the steps” and focus more on understanding that we are putting in a lot of money and time into this class. The amount of unnecessary wordplay on his exams is insane. Ease up on the exams, it's not that serious. Would not take again.
The exam reviews do not really help with the actual exams, I learned more from a TA than I did from him. He does offer extra credit on the exams if you do ALEKs every night, but it doesnt do much when the exams are extremely hard
Second time taking this professor. Nice guy & cares about students who put in effort. But his gen chem 2 lecture was difficult. Not much extra credit & no curves on exams. He makes his exams extremely hard. DO NOT him for gen chem 2 take if you already have a very full schedule, you won't have time to study. (I was a 4.0 student & barely got a C)
His lectures are SO helpful and this class gives you a strong foundation in Chemistry. Keep in mind that 30% of your grade is ALEKS, and if you don't do those daily homework assignments by the deadline, your grade is affected by a lot. His reviews are SOOO GOOD please do them. If you are thinking about taking his class, do it. You won't regret it!!
Overall a great professor, caring and accessible outside of class. You're required to purchase an iClicker for mandatory attendance as well as Aleks. Final exam's a culmination of all previous exams so if you review those then most of it will be familiar. I attended every lecture but still found it helpful to teach myself some topics out of class.
Great professor who genuinely cares about your grade in his class and will help you if you help him. Just try your best, SHOW UP, grind on ALEKS, and make sure you take his iclicker questions seriously. Had a C for most of the course but did well on the final and miraculously ended with an A !
Reviews and slides do not relfect his tests at all. Will also tell you after the test that he puts questions on the test that have not been taught just to trick you. He makes this class extremly difficult that I cried everday!!!
I loved how the only homework was Aleks. I cannot recommend him unless you are good at self-studying. His lectures do not reflect the tests (which is not his fault because Dr.Arman writes the tests) and his reviews are unhelpful. If you take him, get Arman's reviews to learn how he answers questions, and self-study the exam topics.
His PowerPoints are really useful and detailed but during lecture he goes REALLY fast. You basically have to teach yourself. This course is so hard and the exams are difficult but that's not Davidson's fault. You can tell he really does try his best to teach the material but the content is just hard as it is. Prepare to study!!
All exams are on iclicker. He's a good professor who actually teaches, but his exams are very hard. The best thing to do is to study a couple days before the exam. He repeats things many times and makes the information very easy to learn. There are only 5 exams plus a final, and no other grades. If you don't take the final, you automatically fail.
He was a kind teacher that wants his students to succeed, but the class was difficult and you really have to do personal studying outside of his lectures if you want a decent grade.
Dr. Davidson's class was very difficult. However, that is just chemistry as a whole at UTSA... He gave study guides but did not send them out early enough for them to be that beneficial. Use Chads Prep on youtube, do the study guides, and study in groups.
I took him last spring and honestly was a very difficult class. Aleks sucked but it's mandatory for everyone. He gives no extra credit other than 5 extra points on the exam if you complete the aleks on time and do it everyday for 30 min. 4 exams and a final which is pretty much all that's graded heavily, homework is 25% of grade. Tests are v hard.
Prof. Davidson is an amazing lecturer and explains things clearly with a lot of energy; you will not fall asleep in his class even at 9 am. To succeed, you'll have to put in the work and do your ALEKS every day, and he even gives an extra 5 points on each exam if you do that. Overall, I had a great experience in his class.
Professor Davidson makes lectures fun, considering they are at 9 am. ALEKS gives you 5pts extra credit on exams and he provides a lot of study materials. This class is manageable and easy if you put the work into it and not slack off. He was an amazing professor, and I recommend taking his lectures!
Best basic chem professor. The class was hard for some people but it was really easy for me bc he tells you everything you need to know. His reviews are EXACTLY like the exam. He's also really funny and his lectures can be entertaining (esp when he starts jumping up and down). Just take him you won't regret it.
