He lays everything out there in the beginning. He offers a lot of help and is always in the Writing Lab and at his office hours. If students don't ask questions when they need to know something then that's their own problem. He spends a lot of times talking about papers with us during class and I think he's a good teacher.

i thought the class was pretty boring. but he tells u exactly what to do for the papers and gives u weeks to complete it. in class there is alot of peer review and he will look at ur paper in class or though email. u even get to revise ur first 2 or 3 papers. the class is not fun but definatly not hard. u can get through it. recomend taking it.

You would think that this guy came from harvard or yale. He an extremely hard grader even if you follow the stricked guide that he hands out. the first couple of papers i received d's and he let us redue them...you have to work for an A or a B the only paper i got an A on i interview 2 doctors and 2 biochem teachers..goodluck

He is the best Com/English teacher I have ever had. He helps you with every paper and is always in the writeing center. His papers are clean cut, and he gives you a outline on exactly what he wants. His papers are simple also.

he wants papers exactly how he wants them written..very hard grader. will help u alot tho. we always revised our papers and peers papers. he maybe did too. i dont remember. ull get throught it!!

you guys really need to give him a break. if you did bad in his class its cause you didnt try. he is very clear in what he wants. there is alot of work to be put into this class but honestly what do you expect. he is always there to help you as much as he can without doing the work for you! i highly recommend him. just show up on time, everyday!

i thought that he was a great teacher. He wants his papers a specific way, however he always tells what you need to include so the paper are actually very simple. He always willing to help you out if you need it. you just got to ask.

Very clear in what should be in papers, very helpful if you ask the right questions. Also has a great sense of humor, overall enjoyable guy to listen to and talk to.

In spite of what many people are saying I think Mr. D is a VERY good teacher. He actually expects you to think, and to improve upon your writing, and no he won't "baby" you which I think is a good thing. I learned a lot in his class and really appreciated his teaching.

I think Mr. D is an excellent teacher. i have no idea what these ppl are talking about! he walks you through assignments, the class picks thier own due dates, & he's always available to help u. the only way he makes you feel "stupid" as someone said, is if you go up to him and ask him a non-related question in front of the class looking for pity.

I couldn't believe what some of you idiots said about this teacher. He is very helpful and a fair grader. Perhaps the reason most don't like him is because they come in his class with a third grade writing level. If you put forth a fair effort in his class you will do well.

he is very strict. you can miss only 3 classes. assigments are long but he gives you the time in class to do them. hepls you find articles and ideas for the papers. really funny guy who likes what he is doing. very fair. maybe he grades papers hard but you will enjoy the time youll spend with him. and olso he is very CUTE

I took com 101 with Mr.D and felt the need to stick up for the man on here, and after taking 102 with him i feel the need again. This guy is a great teacher, he is very clear in what he wants in his papers and also very helpful if you just ask him questions. He's not the easiest teacher, but sign up for his class if you want to actually improve.

Mr. Derdzinski is very clear and an extremly helpful professor. His comments are both constructive and meaningful and he has greatly improved my writing. I would definitly consider taking him again.

He's a nice person but it was almost impossible for me to get a B on my papers, going to class on time is important he'll take points off if you're late. If you do your reading tests will be easy, you gotta work in his class.

People on here do not know what they are talking about. Mr. D is a great teacher for this subject. He lays out each paper so you know what to do and you spend alot of time in the computer lab so the time typing the paper at home is minimal.He wants you there on time, i was late like everyday and he did make fun of me haha, but i still got an A

Extremely easy with derdz. He goes over everything for papers.Basically walks you through every step. Answers all questions and isn't a hard grader. Need to be on time/not miss class he'll take off points for that. People who don't do well are usually the lazy ones or probably shouldn't actually be in com 101/102 but like 98 or something.

Mr. D is sooooo easy! he is not only extremely helpful, but goes through everything step by step! He makes sure that everyone understands what is going on and what they are doing. its a really easy A! :)

I really like mr. D. He is very helpful and a hard grader which helps me do better with my writing.

As long as you follow his guidelines and ask for help, his class is not very hard. I've gotten B's on all of my papers not even trying my hardest. Can only miss a certain amount of days before you automatically fail. He is a bit rude and his humor can be funny at times and other times it's cheesy and dry. Would recommend taking him for a challenge.

Does explain assignments. Humor is very dry and weak. He does be little you at times. His comments will be outspoken to the class directed towards you if you have made him upset. He makes himself out to be on this high mountain and he looks down upon you.

Awesome teacher, grades relatively well, humorous, explains the assignments as well as providing help if needed.

It's true that he is a bit of a harsh grader, however, he gives a thorough grading rubric for each paper assigned. Just follow the directions and provide the information he asks for and you'll come out with an A just like me. There are also numerous computer lab days to work individually.

Hes a hard grader and expects you to do the work. But if you work hard and dont slack off you'll get an A.

this class is so easy if you actually show up to class. i thought he graded fairly easy but maybe i just understood what he was saying. there really isnt any teaching, he just lets you write your paper. so easy, id highly recommend him

Can be kinda of boring but overall he is a good teacher. Plus he is kinda of cute.

I took this class for three weeks over the summer. All we do is write papers in class. A lot of research. Hes a harsh grader, he only points out your flaws. I dont recommend taking him if your looking for an easy A.

Mr. D is a fantastic teacher. No, he isn't an easy grader. Unlike many other teachers, he will tell you when something is wrong on your paper, so you can make your next paper better. He knows what he is talking about, and will help you, as long as you ask for it. If you want to actually learn something, I highly recommend Mr. D.

Mr D is alright. Its alot of research which is annoying but if you are a good writer then you can probably wait til the last minute to write a paper. He uses MY COMP LAB which is a waste of $78 or so. Only used it to turn in papers and he only really points out what you did wrong, some praises here and there. Take him if you can write.

DO NOT TAKE IF YOU DON'T HAVE $90 TO SPARE. He makes you buy a program that acts EXACTLY like Blackboard. You CANNOT use Blackboard, you HAVE to use his program which is a waste of money. Otherwise he's great teacher, very nice, very helpful.

i like the was that he puts papers up on the overhead and goes over them for the class. I'm a shy person and was afraid for this but he really helped and showed what he wanted. this is a lot of writing in his class though.

Mr. Derdzinski is a great teacher as long as you're a great student. I really enjoyed having him as my COM 101 teacher and went on to take him for COM 102. Attendance is key.You will get a good grade as long as you're respectful and willing to do your work.

Mr. Derdzinski is incredibly helpful and you truly can learn a lot from his knowledge. I think its awesome how he puts your work up on the screen and gives you suggestions. His suggestions are super helpful and truly makes you a better writer. He is by far one of the best teacher's at MVCC! Would definitely recommend him!

Mr. Derdzinski is incredbily caring and helpful. He is very knowledgeble and his advice is very constructive. I have learned a lot from this class and have become a better writer. I'm really glad that I took his class.

The people that are giving him bad reviews are the people that are sensitive because he does have a rough sense of humor at times. Do your work, and ask questions. If you do that, you're guaranteed an A or a B. He is not that tough of a grader compared to other professors. He is very clear with instruction and will not sugarcoat things. Love Prof D

If you're comfortable asking for the help you need, take him. Derdzinski helps students as much as you should expect a college professor to help. He's very specific in his guidance, and makes sure you fully understand what he's saying. I also enjoy his humor, but my sense of humor is diverse, so that's not uncommon.

There is 6 essays that you do throughout the semester. They are pretty easy and he helps you if you need help. His class is very helpful. He has you do your paper by parts and puts them on the screen for him to give you feedback and for the other students to see as well. There is not book required. It was an easy A for me.

Good teacher, but he's too hard of a grader. If you don't ride him for help he dosent respect you and grades your papers twice as hard then he would grade someone's who asked him for help all class. I understand he wants to help, but that is just not fair. I don't recommend his class to anyone. Worst teacher to have.

I tried my hardest in this class and still fell a little short. Your best definitely is not enough for this teacher. He is always critiquing your work, which can be great, but also a major let down when you are giving your all. I received and A at the end of the semester but definitely had to work hard for it.

This class is a joke, he gives you so much time to write easy papers and he mainly focuses on grading grammar errors. His sense of humor is good and the class is easy. Just write the papers and you'll get an A.

Mr. D is a very respectable guy. Whenever you ask him for help he might crack a funny joke but he makes sure you get what you're doing. Uses pearson so you dont have to buy the book. As long as you give him your paper to review on the projector, you will get an A.

Mark Derdzinski,one of my favorites! He has a personal touch, and seems to really care for his students grades. He wants to see his student succeed and does not try to make things harder than they need to be. Hes also hilarious and understanding. he reviews your work in front of the class, but treats everyone equal, and helps fix your mistakes.

He really try's to make every student succeed. Definitely makes it so you have to work, but the entire grade is five essays. Also lightens the mood with his sense of humor. Overall worth taking.

This class??? So easy bro. He is very nice, funny and is very understanding if you have a legitimate reason for being late ("my grandma died"). Only 4 papers throughout the semester.

This teacher is great and has prepared me so much for future writing courses. He makes class fun and takes time to get to know you. Makes jokes daily to keep things exciting. He doesn't sugar coat anything, if you're going to cry about it don't bother with this class. He is extremely helpful and is ALWAYS giving examples. Great teacher.

Hes a very respectable teacher. If you have a question about your research paper, he will help you and make sure you understand. The small flaw is that hes a tough grader. Its very difficult to accomplish some guidelines. Especially when it comes to word count.

One of the best teachers I had, I'm very self-conscious about my writing but he is very helpful! I loved his jokes and just, in general, such a wonderful teacher. I am taking his COM102 class and I can't wait!

He was very clear with what he expected. Show up & put in the necessary effort (which wasn't a lot) & you will pass with a solid B or better. I had struggled to write essays at every level of schooling prior but I never got less than a B in his class. He really did a good job explaining what I needed to do better and was very funny while doing so.

I enjoyed his class and the way he made sure every student understood. If you reach out, he WILL help you and will go out of the way to make sure that you understand. He answers questions unless you ask specific questions about your paper. If you need help with specific things, reach out; he will help individually. Do the work and ask questions.

Mr.D is a tough grader but will help you ask him if you have concrete questions; ask to meet with him individually and set up a time. If something comes up and you cannot get the work done, as long as your reason sounds real, he will give you more time. If you are struggling, ask him will help. I am taking Com-102 with him after taking Com-101.

Mr. D is a tough grader but always willing to help you. If you contact him for help, he will help you. English is not my first language, and he was accommodating when it came to helping me write. TAKE THIS CLASS. As long as you do the work you and ASK FOR HELP, you will do great. He makes jokes while helping you, and it makes the class more fun.

As someone who is good at English, and has 2 parents that are teachers to help me, I was able to get by in this class. I fished high school my sophomore year and was very nervous to have a com class. I also waiting 4 years until j went back to school. Because Derdzinski has very high expectations I am very confident in my writing skills.

Just finished my 2nd class with Mr.D. He is a very good tea her who actually TEACHES you. If you want to actually improve on writing etc, take him. Hes been the best tea her I have had during the pandemic and is always responsive and willing to help. Dont take his high expectations the wrong way. It will benefit you in the long run.

if planning on taking this class, i highly recommend to go on campus. the Professor is super friendly and isnt too strict. Even if you were to miss a class or two you can go on canvas and see what they did for the day. he posts everything we do on canvas and theres decent amount of in class discussions. overall good Class and Professor. Thumbs up

I will say that he is a tough grader, but he makes you such a better writer in the end. This class is just essay writing, but you have plenty of class time to finish. I earned As and high Bs on every essay, and I didn't even think I was a good writer. Don't be afraid to ask questions; he will help you and provide very useful feedback!

Mr. D is a fantastic choice for a student that is looking to improve in their writing. He gives good feedback on your papers and helps you understand what you are doing wrong. He will read essays out loud in class and may come off as rude sometimes, but he really does want to help you become a better writer.

Mr. D expects a lot from his students, so the class will be hard at times, but if you want to beat a better writer TAKE HIS CLASSES. His Com 101 class really helped me get used to college writing he can be harsh at times but he does mean well. He wants everyone to become a better writer. Be prepared he will put up your work on the screen.

I had Mr. D for both Com101 and Com102. He always provided me with very helpful feedback and my writing improved a lot.

All the whining about being a hard grader and gpa's don't make sense. College isn't supposed to be easy. Do the work and listen to the man. He'll help you get ready for writing in your classes.

Harsh professor but gives helpful feedback when asking and attending office hours. If you show you care and improve, he will work with you. Graded on a few papers so make sure you put in full effort. If you want an easy class or a laid-back teacher HE IS NOT ONE. Get ready to work hard but if you care, you will see your writing improve.

He is very willing to accommodate the needs of his students. He doesn't do many lectures, but he makes the ones he does interesting and helpful and is reasonable in both the workload of his class and his grading policy. By far my favorite professor.

I took Prof. Derdzinski last year, he was a great professor. I remember the class having interesting writing prompts. He did expect the best out of your writing, which is hard. He wanted you to do well. I would recommend.

The workload is manageable if you stay on top of in-class assignments. For study prep, I found unstuck study and the free textbook very helpful alongside engaging with the lectures.
