New, but awesome teacher. He goes over the material very slowly just to make sure we understand it. Very helpful and puts a lot of effort into teaching! Definitely taking him for genetics and microbio :)

I recommend Dewall. He was GREAT for his first semester teaching. You can tell he spends a lot of time in preparation, typing up all of his notes for the students to print and making his power points available. He really just wants everyone to learn and do well and he doesn't try to screw you over. He's a really good guy.

I love Brother DeWall. He is a great teacher and very caring. If you read the assignments before class and do your weekly journals you'll do great in this class. There is a mid-term and a final. With the mid-tern I would suggest going into the lab beforehand to practice and to study.

Bro. DeWall is a GREAT teacher. I've had him for three classes!!! Work load is reasonable if not a little on the easy side. Tests are VERY fair. I learned a lot in his class without a lot of stress. Bro. DeWall is one of my favorite teachers in the BIO department.

DeWall is the best instructor at BYU-I. He really knows the microbiology material. His tests are hard if you don't learn the material but if you don't learn the material what are you doing in college to begin with. Highly recommended and pretty funny as a bonus.

Brother DeWall is the bomb dot com. Not even joking. His tests are really hard, so be prepared to memorize memorize memorize. But his class is so much fun and so interesting, and he is the nicest teacher you'll find.

Great teacher; he really knows his stuff. Tests are hard, study a lot from his notes and powerpoints and you'll do fine. P.S. If you are a nursing student, try not to take his class right at 2 after clinical. You will fall asleep every time. : )

Dewall is the best! His labs are super fun and he is very clear about what he wants when it comes to instructions. There is a lab quiz every class period, but if you read you won't have a problem . The mid-term and final cover a lot of information but he prepares you well and offers extra credit! Take him for 221 & 222!

I absolutely adore Bro Dewall. Even in Mircrobiology he can bring in the spirit and he is REAL. You really get to know who he is as a person. He is so passionate about what he teaches and that helped motivate me. Its HARD! You have to put forth a lot of effort. Create a study group right from the start and meet consistently and you'll be fine!

The nicest Biology professor around. Funny, humble, very helpful and moves the class at the students' pace. Doesn't use textbook--his study guides are the textbook. Quizzes are easy if you read the study guides. Provides lots of extra credit. Test averages are always in the 80s.

If you really want to get an A in this class it is possible but it will take alot of study, memorization, and taking really good notes in class. Brother Dewall is always helpful and flexible with office times! Not easy but not impossible either!

One of the best teachers I have had so far. There is no text book. Everything you learn is off of his power points and notes that he gives to you at the begging of the semester. He gives Plenty of extra credit. Study well for the tests and quizzes and it is a relatively easy A. He tries to make every class day enjoyable. TAKE IT FROM HIM!!

GREAT teacher! Very helpful. Uses notes instead of a textbook, is very available to answer questions and is flexible if you have illnesses etc. Its a class that requires memorization and time, but other than that, it is just being able to recall mechanisms. I loved him.

AMAZING professor. His enthusiasm on the subject rubs off on the students. His lectures are clear and interesting. There are 4 exams, quizzes every week, and a disease presentation. Your grade relies heavily on the exams so do well on those! He gives up to 25 points extra credit. If you do the work necessary,you will definitely get an A.

He is clear, fun and willing to help. The material is not hard, but is a lot. So if you study you will pass. He makes the material interesting. The only hard thing is that the grades are based most on the 4 tests...so you better study. not much homework, but a lot of extra credit.

Brother Dewall is by far my favorite professor on campus. I thought microbiology would be boring but he had a way of making it fascinating. He made creative scenarios that really helped you to understand his material. His tests can be difficult with multiple choice ranging from choice A to choice J. Very willing to help.

He's a great guy who is very passionate for immunology and it's apparent in his nerdy mannerisms. He kind of strolls through the course as he wants and might end up missing the last chapter or so. Test are straightforward but be prepared to study. It's tough but interesting class.

Bro Dewall has been my favorite prof. You can tell that he is really passionate about what he teaches! He doesn't mess around with things that won't be on tests, so if you go to class and take notes, you'll know what to expect. Tests are completely write-on, but it's not bad at all. Class is 1.5 hours, & he gives a break in the middle.

Sets clear standards for students. Lectures give you the material needed for exams and provides them online in case you miss lecture. Offers plenty of extra credit (but for the most part he teaches so well you wont need it). It is easy to follow his lectures and keeps them going at a steady pace so as long as you can write/type you can keep up.

I was really worried to take Microbiology at first but the way Bro. DeWall teaches helps you know and understand the material that will be on the test. The majority of the grade depends on tests but he prepares you for it. Don't buy the book! It's online and not worth the money.

Bro DeWall is one of the most clear teachers I have very had. He writes everything on the board that will be on the test in a very organized manner. It is easy to keep up with. I just memorized everything he wrote on the board and got an A on every test. I know the curriculum is changing to have more group work though. Still would recommend DeWall!

Great professor! Really cares about the success of his students. He uses the whiteboard a lot in his teaching. He basically provides everything you need to pass the exams in PowerPoint format, summarized textbook format, and what he draws on the board. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he has five surprise extra credit days for those that show up.

Bro Dewall is AMAZING! The class is hard. He makes his own tests but it is NOT textbook material. He has 130 students in his class and knows me by my name. He is precious and sweet. Go to lectures and ask a lot of questions. Bring colored pencils with you!

Dewall made microbio a breeze. He loves his work and is so awkwardly funny that it makes class fun. Reading the textbook he gives is good but if you attend class, he'll focus on the points he wants you to know for the test and he draws out all these pictures for you. He gives you everything you need to know for tests, you just have to study them.

I LOVED going to Brother Dewell's class. His teaching is mainly drawing pictures on the board but it's so helpful and really helps break down some pretty confusing concepts. He made me feel excited about learning microbiology because you can tell he loves it so much. I would definitely take any class from him!

His teaching style didn't fit very well in a Zoom setting, but I think it would be great in person. He writes on the board a lot which takes more time on Zoom and we had less group work which was unfortunate. The class was fine, just felt a little slow. He did the best he could though and had major surgery and kept teaching after. Stand up guy!

Easy if you just read the instructor's notes - no busywork. Textbook not necessary. Clear expectations; organized. Maybe too patient with those who don't study.

I've taken a lot of Bio classes and Brother Dewall's class is the prime example of a well structured bio class. It is very organized and he spells out exactly what will be on the test. He literally writes notes for you and all you have to do is remember them. As long as you put in the effort, it is an easy A.

His genetics class was really good, there was no final exam, lots of extra credit opportunities. Lots of reading, but it is pretty interesting material. He goes over controversial subjects like the genetics of sex and gender and in class, he such a meme. He can be a little intimidating one on one though.

Bro Dewall is way nice. Genetics is a decently tough subject but he breaks it down and makes it manageable. Really not sure why he has so many bad reviews. Do the reading he gives you. It's a pdf, 10-15pg, 2x a week. Group assignments on fridays are designed to be hard but the tests arent nearly as hard. If you need to take genetics, Dewall is good

Bro. Dewall has got to be one of the best teachers I have taken. Genetics is a pretty tough class no matter who teaches it. Bro. Dewall gives lectures so organized and I love all the colors he uses to thoroughly understand the material. The AGA group worksheets are pretty hard and is a tough grader with those. 10/10 recommend.

Brother Dewall is probably the best professor for this class. He didn't like how much info was in the text book so he made his own, with just necessary info. He draws a lot of pictures and explains everything really well. He writes the tests based on what he says in lecture. I would highly recommend him.

Contrary to what has been said about his BIO411 class, it's great. There are no pop quizzes, he announces every single one. The class is quite easy if you pay attention to the lectures as literally everything on the test is talked about in class. The book isn't even important outside of getting you ready for the quizzes. Brother Dewall is great.

Genetics and Molecular biology is a really tough class, but he makes it as easy to understand as possible. As long as you study and put in the work you'll do just fine in the class. I don't miss the material, but Brother Dewall is a great professor.

Group-focused. You work on a weekly assignment and take a weekly quiz together. There's also a weekly quiz you take on your own. Quizzes/tests directly follow the reading but there's so much content which makes quizzes and especially exams very difficult. No comprehensive final thankfully. Exams on proctorio. Weekly optional zoom calls that help.

Awesome teacher hes a great resource. He tries to help students succeed and course is based on your personal effort. Lots of reading but useful. I'd say if you take your time to understand what you are reading the first time it will save time in the future. Weekly group worksheets/quizzes. Communicate if group doesn't meet with bro dewall.

Brother Dewall is one of most good-hearted professors I've ever had. His lectures are delivered simply and we only learned what we needed for exams(except for some entertaining fun facts about microbio). I can tell he really cares about us,. I would absolutely take this class again!

I liked Brother Dewall but did not like how the course is set up.

If I were to go back in time i would- go to class and see if my group is competent. Yes- keep with the class. No- gamble and take it another semester. Class is entirely group work on packets mixed with constant at home book assignments that get old real quick. Quiz in class every other day. No final but 4 unit tests. Bro Dewall is a good guy.
