Great Instructor.I have never been good with math and have always hated it, however Mark makes it alot easier to understand. Very helpful and cares about his students sucess.
did not find him very helpful when you ask questions he makes you feel like you are stupid for asking that question. And he favors the girls. I saw a girl almost in tears and he let her use a calculator while the rest of us struggled through the test with out one. I wouldn't recommend him. He doesn't teach he puts problems and has you slove them
Mr. Dunn is a very helpful teacher, he may be a little fast at times, but he will slow down and explain the material more clearly if you need. He makes his classes fun and interesting. I would highly recommend him for anyone interested in taking math 95.
awesome
I took Mark for math 95. I did not like this class at all. Mark may be a nice guy but his style of teaching is fast and at many times unclear. This is the first class that makes me dread going.
He teaches way to fast for a lot of the class. He makes people feel stupid for asking a question which then has the class not wanting to ask for help and not wanting to be involved. Horrible teacher.
I had Mark for two Semesters and he IS the reason why I like Mathematics today. He teaches in modern day style and some old school added in. He is a fair teacher and he makes you work for what you think you deserve. Nothing comes for free I highly recommend him for all levels of math!!!
useless
Nice guy. Very math savvy and will help if you ask. He teaches really fast in class and you don't know for sure if asking a question is OK. Sometimes he's glad to help, other times you feel dumb for asking. FYI: Plays music during class and exams. Most people like it but I found it distracting. You can go to quiet testing room if you want.
Very nice guy, but he teaches way too fast. He makes you feel dumb every time you ask questions. Don't waste your time taking this class. I have to drop math 95 and I am not that dumb in math, but the way he teaches is useless.
Coach Dunn rocks! Literally, he plays music during class and exams. Some may find it distracting, I thought I would at first, but actually it calmed my nerves. I hate math, but loved coach Dunn's style. He comes across as hard nosed, but he knows how many community college students can be. I appreciated his fast, direct style. Tough but fantastic!
Mark is a wonderful teacher! He is really good at explaining things and offers multiple ways to do math concepts. He works with you if you need extra help or need to mis a test. I took mth60 with him and am doing mth65 this term with him. I will deffently do mth 95 with him if I have the chance. Deffently recommend him to any student!
I do agree in a way that he is fasted paced but as long as you tell him to slow down or that you don't understand, he will stop and go over it. The only reason he goes ahead is because he thinks everyone gets it. I think he was a great teacher as long as you go to class and pay attention and get involved then I think you can pass this class
He makes you feel dumb if you ask questions. He makes remarks about the way you look and dress. He makes unnecessary remarks about illegal substances in class about himself and towards students. I paid terrible math teacher, don't take Dunn unless you like to be treated this way.
Mark is a grrreat teacher! If you do not understand something he takes time to explain it. However take good notes. If you expect to be babied, take another class, maybe one in the 2nd grade. I wish he would be available to teach all of my required math classes. Before his classes I dreaded math, now it's something I look forward to.
Had Dunn for math 95. Best math teacher I have had so far.
Coach Dunn is an AMAZING instructor! He adds a sense of humor to the class. If you don't understand what is said/taught he will go through it with you until you understand. His class is a fun environment. I look forward to going to his class every week. This is my third term with him! just keep in mind don't be a baby if he gives you a hard time.
Seriously the worst experience I have ever had in a classroom. Dunn made me feel feeble minded the way that he treated me when I asked questions. He harassed me and made me feel like I was a dunce. He plays distracting music all class long and "if you don't like it you can leave". He takes personal attributes of students and ridicules you.
He didn't work for my learning style. He is very blunt and speaks loudly in class. Timid folks feel intimidated to ask questions for fear of being belittled. Might be a good class for the confident student.
If you want an interesting, engaging math class that shows you how and why the math works without any confusing fluff take Dunn. Mr. Dunn has makes math simple and clear-cut. If you don't like good music, asking questions or joking this may not be the math class for you, however. My one complaint is he doesn't teach 111. He's a freaking math wizard
Mark Dunn is hands-down the best math teacher I've ever had. He makes Math simple and easy to understand. He's a freaking math wizard and his class is fun and engaging with great music. I've never been excited to go to math before taking his class.
Awesome teacher!!! Fun and great teaching style. I love the music as well as his sense of humor . He is extremely helpful
This is the guy who taught the universe how to do math so it had something to do in it's spare time. He is a great teacher who cares about his students. He will help anyone however he can, as long as you are willing to help yourself. He wont waist time with someone who doesnt want to pass. If you want to pass math take his class. Ask questions!!!
Probably a cool guy to have a drink with but not to teach you algebra. Plays music all class long, even during tests. Goes way too fast. Talks about how to solve problems instead of writing them out and explaining them. It that works for you great if not... RUN
Coolest teacher you will ever find. Down to earth guy and is one of the nicest funniest teachers I've ever had. Great at teaching
Great teacher! help me get though the course and understand how to accomplish the problem!
He's a cool teacher but goes on and on while teaching and leaves his students trying to keep up.
This man is rude, intimidating, unapproachable, and lacks the social skills necessary to convey knowledge to his students.
Dunn is a hot headed teacher with a lot of personal opinions while teaching. I would never choose this teacher again, but I have to say he is pretty understanding when you are having personal struggles. If you are capable of understanding several things all at once at an extremely fast pace then this might be the teacher for you.
Plays music all class, even during test yes. It is the best! You think at first it would be distracting but I have found that I have learned better with the music then without it in any other math test. If you can't do test with the music he has a room you can go in to do your test. Is always asking for questions and willing to slow down if asked.
Worst&most HORRID profsr EVER! DoNOT repeat DoNOT take NE course wthis man if u want learn mth, no calc allowed, his way or no way!Uses profanity towards students, screams,be littles us, uses class unwisely3hr class only 30minnever let me take final after reschdling cuz I was in rollover accident on way to it,so careless &won't even return emails
He is an amazing teacher. Let's us know what we need to know for tests and quizzes well in advance, very open to any question you have and you can really tell that he wants you to succeed and get involved in the class. He does play music during class and some people don't like it but I personally love it! Great teacher!! would definiteLy take again
In the beginning of class he would say that he helps students all the time, but once your in the middle of the term he doesn't care about anybody! He will accept late homework and understand if you cant make it to class. He will let you have more time for quizzes ,students get intimidated by this guy STRICT
Mark Dunn is a horrible Math teacher. He needs to stick with coaching women's vollyball. He yells in the classroom and it can be heard in the next classroom over, plays loud music during the quizs and tests. He has also made racially offensive comments in class to me in front of other students and acted like it was no big deal.
Great math teacher! Style of teaching isn't for everyone, but if you want to take a COLLEGE level course this is the professor for you. He doesn't treat you like a high schooler, he treats you like an adult. You are expected to put in effort as a student and you will be astonished at what you get in return. If you want to learn math take Mr. Dunn.
Mr. Dunn was a great math teacher! He is not here to drone at us like some other professor's I have had. He is engaging and knows his stuff. You have to be willing to participate and speak up in class as well as 1:1 if you struggle with math. He will help you help yourself succeed. Don't go in to this class expecting an easy A, expect to learn math
Dunn is a good teacher. He cares about the students, however he's teaching style is not for me. I had a hard time focusing and taking quizzes and exams because of the music playing in the background. Quizzes and exams will include topics that were taught that day, which was difficult for me. The text book is only used for HW assignments.
Mark has been the first teacher to EVER help me learn how to do math. After being out of math for over ten years, I was able to jump right back in and start actually LEARNING instead of just trying to pass a class. LOVE the music playing! It really helps me focus!
Dunn is an AMAZING teacher. math 95 material is hard but dunn makes it easy to understand! I would highly recommend him to anyone he has his rules/tricks to math that other teacher can't offer. Follow his tricks/rules that he teaches and you will get an A. He is a very approachable and will never make you feel stupid.
His chattiness and apparent belief that he teaches a math class well enough to cover lessons swiftly does little to communicate the concepts necessary for individual students to actually understand the material.
TAKE HIS CLASSES. This professor is one of the best math professors I have had. He makes the math engaging and explains hard concepts in simple ways; if even one person in the class doesn't understand, he will explain it in another way until they do. He loves when people ask questions and are engaged.
Plays music every single minute of every single class.
Great professor! Teaches easy ways to solve hard problems. Love pandora channels he uses.
Coach is an amazing teacher, hands down. Ive never understood math more until taking his class. he plays music through the whole class, even tests, never turns it off. He can be a little bit harsh with people but he has the best intentions. He wants to help if you want to learn. Has a loud "Gym"voice as he coaches volleyball. Love him as a teacher
Yep, he plays music. Took his class to give him a chance goping he played classical or jazz or something to focus to. NOPE. He plays a variety of music. Music with words. Extra loud too so you can't hear yourself think. Whatever make you happy I guess. Dropped his class after second day. Don't know anyone who can focus like that.
Hes a horrible teacher and person. He plays music all the time, and is disrespectful. He doesnt care about you, he only cares about his classes overall grade so he looks good. Hes super egotistical and talks about himself all the time and puts people down to feel big. He yells at you if you have a question, and is really scary and unapproachable.
Math 95 has a large fail rate but mark tries to help all of his students. He does pick on people but only as a joke and to make the room more comfortable for those you dont usually ask questions. He plays music during class but you can choose the option to take test and quizzes just outside the classroom if it bothers you.
Most likely the most patient teacher I've ever met. You could ask him the same question and he wouldn't get angry. I highly recommend this teacher if you're neurodivergent, he makes the class room really comfortable. Only warning: the class has this super loud projector that would make horrid noises every now and then. Awesome Teacher, Sign up!
I enjoyed taking this class with Coach Mark Dunn teaching. I received an A and learned more than I ever thought I could. There is a consistent amount of homework as well as quizzes and tests. All preparing you for the final so that you are well equipped and knowledgeable. He teaches you math techniques others haven't. I'll be taking him next term.
Plays music, has passion, creates his own methods. best math teacher I've ever had.
He goes through every lesson way too fast and skips a lot of steps you need to know to solve the problems. Plays loud country music so I can barely hear what he's saying. Cusses way too much in class its overwhelming. He is just very rude and bad at teaching. Also very very intimidating.
Mark is one of the best teachers I've had! His lectures were clear and straight to the point, and he was available up to an hour prior to class for clarifying questions on homework problems. He does play music while teaching, but personally it helped me focus. He can be intimidating, but just treat him with respect and he'll do the same for you.
I took Mark Dunn for MTH95, and he's one of the best math teachers at PCC. His grading is a little odd, as he doesn't mark problems wrong on homework, but grades the entire piece. He plays old country and rock music in his class, but many times it has actually kept me awake. A very good teacher and I highly recommend him. Advice: DON'T MISS A CLASS
After being the last to finish the final; I really did my best, math has never came easy to me. Note second time taking math 60 after a disaster (F). Probably will have a High D after my final today. Despite studying from 9pm to 1AM 4/5days a wk. I feel a little more confident in math. I hope one day I will be as competent as Professor Mark Dunn.
Unapproachable, completely freaked me out the first interaction. Barely looked up from his desk and was condescending in everything he said. He plays loud, fast paced country and rock music the entire class (even during exams and quizzes?!). I knew the lectures weren't hard to understand but it was impossible to focus. Maybe some people can though!
The best math teacher I have ever taken. Used to make it by in high school math, here he makes you work for your grade. (Get on his good side) Learned real-life math situations in his class that are worth it. Show up, participate, do the work and study... that's all I can say.
Has super great lectures, helped me understand my math much better than other courses in the past. Many say he is intimidating, he really isn't. You just have to go up and talk to him. Grades fairly on tests and exams, gives partial credit. I would take him again.
Dunn is great!!! He plays music a lot and I love it. He is really polarizing, some ppl hate him, but is a great teacher if you wanna have some fun while learning and can take some jokes here and there. Don't take him if you really struggle with math because he can be intimidating at times, but he's got a good heart.
Dunn is a quirky guy for sure. Listens to music throughout class and cusses a little, but overall great guy. Class was homework intensive and is only graded on completion. The tests were thorough and mirrored the homework. Biggest thing is participation - ask questions and you'll be smooth sailing. He doesn't accept late work though, so be warned.
A terrible professor. He is incredibly rude to his students when they don't understand the work or a question. If you want to ask a question you better have a camera or he won't answer it as it's like you "aren't there". The homework was the only part I found helpful with this class but if you want someone respectful don't take him.
Absolutely horrible, waste of time & money. Goes his own pace and assigns hw like we don't have a life outside school/ other classes. If you're looking for a teacher who cares and will take time to explain w/out making you feel stupid, good luck. I'd give a 0 if I could.
Professor Dunn is a real gem, I thoroughly enjoyed his course this semester. Participation is huge, and he wants you to engage so hes able to help you. He is easy to understand, has amazing tips and tricks, Dunn-ism came in handy multiple times. Thank you for an amazing semester!
He is a very nice and understanding teacher! He is very interactive with his students even though I did take his class online. He gives you lots of resources and goes through the homework every week before it is due. He also gives us a set schedule for all our test so there are no surprises and gives us a study guide that is just like the test!
Mark is rude and he speeds through the lessons, expecting everyone to just know what he means. If a student has a question about anything, he answers it while making them feel like they're an incompetent fool with his body language and tone of voice. I only passed by heavily relying on math tutoring and only attending the lectures for the credit.
Not the worst professor I've had before, but most definitely the bottom on my list. The music in the background is distracting, and very nerv racking to ask questions. He makes you feel terrible about yourself if you ask any sort of math question, and the lectures are super hard to sit through without getting distracted. Would not recommend.
Watch ORCCA videos before lecture. Go to every lecture, he will say textbook is wrong on some things, take note for exams or your grade will suffer. Humiliates students who ask questions by repeating himself, or tells them "This is math 95 you should know this". Won't answer your questions if your camera is off. Doesn't bother to correct hw.
he moves really fast, he is not a bad teacher but his teaching style did not work for me, he is open to questions at any time however all of his answers are always super general.
Not recommended at all. you need to study not to listen to music. seems like he just wants to have fun during the class and finish early without answering any questions you have. Most helpful answer you can get is do your homework. Not helpful at all and he's not the right person.
nice guy in general but his class wasn't for me. Plays country music the whole time. The way he talks to the class is as if we were teenagers, it's his way or not. He answers questions but makes you feel stupid, I doubt he's intentionally trying to do so, but that's how I felt. I can tell a lot of the dudes in the class liked him, man's man type.
fine, you wont be upset but not amazed either
He gives plenty of time for questions. And says multiple times per lesson. "Does anyone have any questions?" I don't know why so many people on here complained about it. He wanted people to succeed and was able to help with all math-related problems. 10/10 would recommend this teacher.
Mark was a very hard grader. If you missed a simple step it would mess your grade up pretty bad. As well as that he also is a rambler and can become off topic really quickly. He was a good teacher but he might not fit very well with certain students.
He is a good teacher and will answer any questions you have. As long as you put an effort in the class and try to understand from the start you will do good. Because it is a math class, he can't be a tough grader and your grade is determined by how you do on tests and if you complete your homework. I recommend him
Instructor starts the class by making you write down one simple thing - "I will take responsibility for my grade." To succeed in his class 1. Come to class 2. Do your homework 3. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you can do these simple things I guarantee you will not find a better math instructor.
He plays music the entire class for HIS benefit and not who is learning and it is very distracting. He goes through lectures so fast that it does not even make sense nor do I feel like anyone retains anything he "taught" us. When you ask a question when you don't understand something he makes you feel stupid and dumb for asking. Worst teacher ever.
Dunn was a fantastic teacher, and after failing my first 65 math class with a different instructor, I regretted not taking him the first time. He is easygoing and will assist you in any way he can, but you must reach out; he will not know that you are struggling until you tell him. Overall, I would strongly recommend him for future course work.
I don't know why some people are upset about the music in his class; yeah, it's a little strange at first, but you grow used to it. This was my second time taking a course with and it made me feel more safe/secured since I knew what to expect and how his teaching method worked, which I personally found to be quite helpful.
Mark is very straight forward teacher but often comes off as grumpy and unapproachable, making the class significantly harder as the lectures are fast paced and easy to get lost in. The classroom has a nice environment with music always playing in the background. If I had to take the class again I would choose a different professor.
Wanted to like this professor. If you ask a question, he doesn't know how to explain in more ways than one. Always walked out more confused than when I came in. When I showed him that he mis-graded a quiz & I had written the correct answers, I was accused of writing the answers after the fact; I would never cheat. I love math & he made me dread it.
Coach Dunn is an absolutely amazing math professor that I 100% would take again. He is willing to meet with you outside his office hours to help. You must reach out if you're struggling, he won't assume you are. He is very down to earth and cares about his students. Grading is clear. He is absolutely hilarious, and makes any day more interesting.
He plays music during tests, which is distracting. He didn't teach what was in the curriculum; the homework was completely different from the lecture. He would go really fast, and when you had questions, he wouldn't understand and get mad. He wouldn't abide by my accommodations and was racist.
For someone who has not taken a math class in a couple years, this professor is and was extremely helpful at making learning math again easier than it has ever been. He was always in class two hours before class even started to help me and any other students with questions regarding homework or the material. Would definitely recommend him!
Coach Dunn was great. He grades homework and tests/quizzes very quickly. Math isn't my strongest subject, so I frequently went to his office hours for assistance; he was always more than happy to help me. I could tell he really cared about my success in his class.
I had mix emotions about his class but after taking mark class he's an okay teacher he dose expect you to already know it since to him its common sense he doesn't show his work and just give you the answer ill say take his class if you feel confident in math of course you will need do you part but ill not take him agian not recommend.
Class started well; he answers questions. But he plays (often explicit) music all class and yells over it & swears. He sat on my desk. He also pushed me & told me to smile, and I didn't, so he told the class I was a (profane name). My advisor & PCC helped report harassment and change classes. For your safety and love of learning, avoid him.
Coach Dunn was a great professor. He set clear expectations on how his class runs and expects students to keep up with their work. Overall, his syllabus showed all the dates of exams and quizzes. Whenever I have questions, he answers them clearly and wants you to succeed in his class. If you are a sensitive person, don't take his class.
Dunn is a great professor. His syllabus has clear expectations and due dates. Homework is a big part of your grade. He cares a lot about his students, and his class is fun to be in. He does play music in his class, but it never bothered me. He answered all my questions. (He is big on asking for help when you need it.) Overall, he is a great prof.
Mark is really unprofessional. He plays music all class. He doesn't answer my questions he calls people profanity names. But when girls ask questions he sits down next to them and goes over the content. Also he talked about doing cocaine in the 80s and said he will give his bosses the two birds and retire if they make him not play music. Don't take
People who don't like him are probably too sensitive. He is chill and plays music. I would review stuff before class because the lectures are fast but that's every college class. Lowkey cried because he wouldn't answer my question but I am an emotional person so it's chill. Homework is helpful. Funny and sassy teacher so that's slay
Coach Dunn is the best math prof at PCC! He's hilarious, supportive, and goes above and beyond to help every student succeed. With clear expectations in the syllabus, he makes learning math so easy through shortcuts and efficient methods. He made learning math incredibly simple. Plus, he tells you exactly what to study for tests and quizzes!
His teaching style is very clear and makes sure that everyone is understanding the material. Very personable and funny during lecture and his homework isn't overwhelming. Great at answering questions and is extremely fast at responding to emails and is flexible with coming in early to take a quiz/test. He also plays rock and country while teaching
Knows his stuff in terms of Math, very friendly once you get to know him, more than willing to slow down and explain his solutions so long as you as the student ask him to. To get a full and complete understanding ASK QUESTIONS. COME TO OFFICE HOURS if you feel shy, not a lot of people utilize it so OFFICE HOURS are great for one on one learning.
always plays music while teaching, love that dude
Honestly, classtime was fine at first, but Mr Dunn treated me inappropriately enough that I reported to title IV. Thanks to the school I was able to switch classes even after the withdraw date. Other than that, if you're a guy you might like him. He expects his class to understand the content. But honestly there's much better teachers out there.
This guy made me uncomfortable. He made a lot of off-color jokes and I believe is a women's volleyball coach. Also is not very nice or very helpful. I know men that enjoyed his jokes but most women likely will find it uncomfortable. If you're decent at math the class work itself should be fine, didn't give unnecessary work.
Coach is respectful and cares about his students. Notes are always posted beforehand making prep easy. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! ASK QUESTIONS! Respect him and he will respect you. I'm shocked at the bad reviews, he's not racist or sexist. And no, I'm not a guy, I'm not blind to sexism. He's genuine. If you ask questions and do the work, you'll do great.
Do not take. Did not let me use the testing center for accommodations. Plays music during lecture and during exams. This may work for him, but is not recognizing this is very difficult for students. Pretends to comply with accommodations, but finds ways not to accommodate.
I had to drop after the first class because I personally could not handle this professor. The first day, he told everyone that his son died a few days ago, and then went on to crack a few unrelated jokes before jumping straight into algebra problems. There wasn't much of an introduction of himself. I wouldn't suggest anyone take this class, sorry.
while yes,he shows up early and claims to want to help he constantly never explains how he works on problems expecting us to know, when it's his job to teach! And doesn't put in effort to connect with his students. He bragged on the first day that over 60% of his last class was failing and that's the case now at 50% or more! "HW" is his crutch!
