His lectures are interesting, encourages class discussion. Also a fair marker.

Mark truly lays everything out on the table for you to get an A in his class. He gives you the chance to gain easy marks with online (open book) quizzes and writing assignments. He posts your exams in advance so that you know what to prepare for. Very helpul,has alot of interesting knowledge to share too. Good guy!

It is true, Mark is a VERY hard marker however he gives all of the extra help that you might need to hep you achive your goal mark. his lectures were VERY interesting and I did not find that he shoved his views down people's throats as others said.

Great teacher, i am going to switch majors into a Sociology Major due to Mark's helpfulness, and the interest he sparks in sociology. Mark expects a lot on his exams, but if you study, you shouldn't have problems with this. Hard work gets rewarded. Very fair, open, and straight forward.

Kind of a weirdo... hard class. As mentioned previously he teaches the class as if it were 4th year SLGY. If you are majoring in sociology, it's not a bad class. But if you're taking it as a GNED option try to find a different teacher.

Great prof! He is really passionate about sociology and he makes it easy to do well in the course, but only if you are willing to put in the work. His tests are really hard, but he gives them in advance, and encourages you to spend time in his office for clarification. Never since found a prof so approachable who wants you to do well. :)

Exams are hard, but overall he's a wonderful teacher take the class but if you cannot handle someone with a firm opinion or belief system, jus don't bother taking his class.

By far, my favorite professor I've had at Mount Royal. Extremely helpful when students actually decide to ask questions. He was genuinely excited when I told him I had decided to pursue Sociology as my major. I hope I have the pleasure of taking another one of his classes in the future.

Mark is a very knowledgeable and passionate prof. His lectures were incredibly engaging with real world examples and humour. You need to go to class to do well on exams and summaries. I highly recommend this class if you're interested in why societies and cultures are the way they are.

Best prof I have ever had. Amazing. He does really like to do "mind maps" but he does not just hand you one and say "learn it, understand it", he talks about the concept and at the end will put one up to summarize the concept. His tests are fairly easy.. as long as you actually show up to class. He does give A LOT of hints to what will be on exams.

Mark is a very knowledgeable person and tries to make sociology fun and interesting. Shares lots of personal stories to help make the content more memorable. Overall, 3 exams and 3 short assignments. Tests are only multiple choice and true/false and he gives you hints a week before the exam so you know what to study.

Mark is very kind, and cares a lot about the success of his students. I feel that he has received a bad reputation as being a hard prof, but if you follow his guidelines for assignments you'll do great! He is also pretty reasonable, just put in the effort, and don't skip his classes!

He is easy to meet with and will answer any questions you may have regarding the course material. I was struggling with one concept and he took the time to teach me it outside of class time. Mark is really caring about his students, he does give quite a few group projects but if you have a good group you'll do great plus being a first year the group projects were helpful because your group teaches you how to do things along the way. He tries really hard to make his students happy and keep them engaged. He's a great guy.

Mark is very liberal, but tries not to let it interfere with the class. If you are a closed minded individual I do not recommend this class. Mark has displayed many new perspectives, and is an overall great person and teacher. His main priority is seeing students succeed. He always available for feedback and extra help.

The course can be difficult because of the heavy material. If you dont study you will find the exams very hard and he does use trick questions. He gives exam hints and chances for extra credit.

Lots of bad reviews for mark but im going to go ahead and assume that they failed his class and they are mad about it. He's a great guy and has an open mind. Almost all group work so find good people to work with and you'll be okay. Interesting discussions and quick to answer emails and does anything he can to make the course better and help people succeed.

Great prof. Really helped a lot when emailed. Mark made the class very enjoyable and one of my favorites. The textbook was not used during lectures but was very helpful with clarification. Notes could often get scrambled which is when the textbook would help a lot. Very attainable to get a good mark if an effort is put in.

Mark is a great individual but his teaching style might be confusing to many. He leans more towards visuals and charts. He usually gives exam hints so as long as you attend and pay attention in class, you should get a decent grade. He gives feedback for essays too so try to email him for clarification. Mark is a really great guy, he cares a great deal about his students and sociology. He is always willing to meet, and will give feedback on drafts. I found him to be slightly disorganized (but all brilliant people are). My biggest issue was his use of advanced terminology when he lectures, I had to google a lot to keep up lol.

He is such a good prof, I don't understand why people write such brutal comments. I have had him for SLGY 2232 as well. His midterms are difficult, in the sense that you HAVE to read your textbook, it's university so suck it up. If you read the textbook as you go, you'll do fine. He really wants his students to succeed! Always willing to help!

Mark gives so many opportunities to hand in assignments for feedback multiple times before they're due. He also gives many bonus marks and gives you exam hints for every exam. As long as you study the hints and utilize his feedback with group projects you will do great. He is very kind and very passionate. Would definitely take his class again.

Mark is truly one of the best professors I have had throughout my university experience. He is super caring, and makes his guidelines clear. He talks thoroughly about every single subject he presents, and always is open towards people asking questions. The class is organized in groups and its discussion-based so it allows students to share their ideas on what they read in the textbook. The textbook isn't mandatory since he posts his notes on it on BB. However, its a great, chill and easy course!

Environmental Sociology with Mark was amazing, and the textbook was quite informative and engaging. Mark is very passionate about what he is teaching and tries his best to engage students in discussing the material. Majority of the grade is based on group work and in each class there is group discussions. Overall, it's an easy class to succeed in as long as you can survive through group work.

Mark is a great prof, he's extremely helpful & will clarify any confusion you have if you ASK. He's extremely passionate about his work, he loves group work and likes making his students think about life, which is something most profs don't manage to do. If you're not willing to work don't take this class, he values students who try.

I like Mark, he was very clear in his expectations of assignments. He gave many opportunities to work with our groups, and ask for help if we needed it. He was also very clear in his exam hints, and went over them before each exam which was very helpful.

Very understanding prof with very clear exam hints that helped. Other than exams, everything was group projects but he was very understanding - just communicate!! He replies quickly and within 2-3 days at the most. I fell asleep during most of his lectures but his Primer and the Pearson text helped a lot.

My first class with him and can say I'm definitely finding another course with him as a prof. He provides a lot of feedback and wants to best for his students. He does expect you to read lectures beforehand to prepare for class and have group projects. No midterms/finals but mini quizzes. He deeply cares for your success in his class.

I loved that thisteacher would give us an idea to start on and then ask for examples from the class so that he could expand on our ideas. He said participation is necessary but as long as you're not being a dick to group members and contacting them, then you're fine. He tells a lot of stories and rambles but always related them to the class topic.

Great prof, no slideshows. lots of reading and only group work and tests. he doesn't help much if ur group sucks, so if ur not good in group don't take his class. otherwise super easy class.

Mark is such an amazing prof, he gives you a lot of freedom with your assignments. The classes are like a huge discussion referring to the textbook and if you relate your discussions to the textbook he doesn't really care. I would definitely take another course with Mark in the future.

I love Mark! He offers feedback on the final group paper up to a week before it is due and he goes over quiz hints in detail before every quiz. He lets the class decide quiz dates and when the final paper is due. I bought the textbook and used it to study but it wasn't used in class. Super funny guy. Lectures consist of slideshows and his stories.

Mark is incredibly dedicated to his students, his wife passed away this semester and he held class the day after. This is the second class i have taken with Mark and it definitely will not be my last!

LOVE this prof. He is extremely dedicated to his students and provides in-depth feedback to assist students in their learning. Plus, he is willing to go above and beyond. I would recommend this class if you like student-led discussions and group work.

Mark is a great prof. my third class with him and I have always gotten A. if you can't work on group projects, first, you shouldn't be in uni and second don't take Mark's class. He is a really kind prof. I missed a quiz because I had to many courses during the summer semester and he was really kind enough to give me an extra day to finish this. HE IS THE BEST prof i have ever had. Many profs would not do this. his lectures are good and notable. there is a group project for this course.

Mark is a great professor; he is personable and knowledgeable about the course. The course consisted of 6 quizzes and one group term paper. We had many opportunities to submit the term paper ahead of the due date, and the feedback was in-depth and extremely helpful. The lectures were presented through slide docs and charts. No final!

Mark is one of my favourite soci profs. You're graded by attendance, a midterm, a final and an individual or group journal based on the content given in class. The content is very easy to manage if your schedule is very busy. He's available if you have any questions and he's willing to provide meaningful feedback on your journals if wanted.

Mark's great, depending on the class. Highly recommend research methods. He was engaged when teaching and you know he knows his stuff. Less math and more nuance leads Mark down the slippery slope of AI though :(. Start on the projects early - send them to him and he will give you very helpful feedback - listen to the feedback to get an A.

Mark is my goat. He is so caring! Yes the end of this semester was rough but the poor guy was HOSPITALIZED. I will never not take a class with Mark.
