Nice guy, but treated an intro course like we were all sociology experts.

Great guy but treats the course like we're all soc. majors....very difficult prof. used to teach at harvard! if you take him be ready for this to be your major coursework class.

Not that bad. I did really well on his midterm, but I'm an english major, NOT a sociology one, and he doesn't understand that the class is an INTRO!

A really hard teacher. Assigns so much work. He looks like the father from the show family matters, and is really funny!! I liked him..he gave me a "B"!! Just participate a lot in class!! He likes an effort!! PS- he loves the show ER!! haha

good teacher very hard, looks like carl winslow however every episode(class)it was important to pay attention otherwise he would pick you out the class easily. Even if I were Steve Urkel, marrying Laura would have been easier than taking this class.

Very hard professor. he makes you think a lot. good professor. he teaches to COLLEGE kids not high school kids like many other professors do. the exams are really difficult so you need to study and the papers are also pretty hard.

Teaches the class the way a college professor should. Anyone who thought he asked too much of his students wants college to be just like high school. I got a B through paying attention to what he said and working hard on the papers.

He is a good professor even though other students might not like him. They are probly the ones who prefer to not learn and just get an easy A w/out working hard. He does give a lot of work for an intro course but sheesh at least he teaches!

my favorite professor i've had so far. made me want to be a soc major. Very articulate and intense. These people who claim he's scary are wimps. You'll be a better, smarter person for taking anything he teaches.

Ellis is a real professor-if you don't want to learn you won't like him but if you are looking to learn something you'll love his class like i did. he made me become a soc major and i want to keep taking him because you learn so much. and he is not as intimidating as he seems--very interesting too

If you're going to college because you want to learn then definitely take his class. For those of you who just want to slide though and get a degree than I advise you to take another class. He's not going to make it easy for you, but why should he? He wants you to learn.

If you don't like this guy you're either lazy or squemish. He's a great prof, take advantage of your time with him. Teaches the way all profs should teach. He cares, and is a great debater. It's hard but worth it.

Great Prof. Very nice. You'll learn alot, but be prepared to work!! This is not a class you can fall asleep in even if it is online. Do your work at the begining of the week don't wait. Go for help. Do ALL work - if you don't will lower grade.

He is very intimidating, really knows his stuff. His class is a challenge but you deffinately wont fall asleep.

I agree a lil with everyone. he is tough but knows his stuff, even online it is a ton of work, dont take this to expect a light load online, its a lot of work!! Definitly also is very full of himself. But he helped me out so he is willing to give you the time of day.

DR. Ellis is not that bad! His class is hard and he makes you work, but it is all worth it in the end. He is intimidating because he is extremely brilliant!! I've never had a professor like him. He is also very caring, understanding, and helpful to his students. If you have a problem just talk to him about it.

Well informed and spoken, does provide clear syllabus. However, if you miss a page in the text, you're screwed (pop-quizes). Approachable, but feels you're not reading if you don't get it. Tough grader.

I have him for First Year Sem and I feel like I'm doing more work for his class than my other GE classes!! I never knew First Year Sem could be so much work!! Don't take him if you are lazy...he gives a lot of assignments...and some of them arent easy either!!

A well informed, educated teacher. Gives long tests and exams, and also a couple long papers. Take notes and follow syllabus and youll do fine. Expect to look at sociology in a whole diffrent way after this class. GREAT PROFESSOR!!!!!

hes really good made me look at soc in a whole new way. i even chnaged my major to it. def partcipate in and and most impt READ !!! if you dont read you wont have any idea what he is talking about. the test are long but if you read not that hard

I'm only in his WPU Freshman Seminar Class, and WOW - its a lot of work for 1.5 credit class haha. He's smart but can tell he's a toughie. Talks about Soc all the time and the government. Takes attendance.

hes is a very nice respectful guy. class attendance is required, he is kind of tough. do not talk in his class. do the assignments and you will get a good grade.o, and hes real smart but sometimes he is hard to understand, u just get lost in the middle of his sentence

Great! Difficult. I learned a lot. He challenges you and supports you as well. He wants students to get it and to take educational opportunities seriously. Keep doing what you are doing. After the intro course I was ready for anything. This is a real college level course and sometime the students on this campus don't care about learning. He cares.

If you are reading this, Im telling you take his class, hes awesome! The outside class assignment is you outline the readings briefly before class, and inside the classroom he gives everybody a chance to participate. He likes to switch up the lesson, he jumps from video, to board, to slides, to standing up activities. His class goes by in a breeze!

He's arguably the best teacher I've had at William Paterson. If you're sincerely interested in Sociology and have the desire to learn I would take him without a doubt! I wish he taught another class I needed, because I'd retake him in a heart break. Best guy ever and funny too.

Yes, Dr Ellis requires a lot of work for a 101 course. Im a lazy student and Im not gonna lie but if you honestly put forth effort it will be seen. Class participation is required and so is attendance. Doesn't want to see student fail his class. He's easy to talk to and kinda funny. He gives you all the time in the world to make up assignments.

Dr Ellis is an Amazing Professor. He is not easy at all, but if you are serious about Sociology and school in general you will do well. This is not a class for a slacker, a lot of work is needed in order to do well. A lot of writiitng and the book is needed In order to do well.

One of my favorite Prof. of all time... He is a reasonable grader, is very straight forward, and gives you all the material needed to pass the class. This class is no easy A+. However, if you can get a C in this class you can pass any other Sociology class at WPU. If you wish to challenge yourself, take this class.

I didn't know how I would feel about him. But he is a good professor and funny. Show up to class and participate! It helps your grade TREMENDOUSLY! Especially on the midterm and final. He tells you what he expects from you from the beginning and you CANNOT be lazy. It's a challenge but he can be nice and funny and will help you.

I was so stressed about this class over my semester and at the end it was worth it. He makes the class challenging but i promise at the end it will be worth it. Its 2 papers, a mid-term, and final of 100 questions each. If you do go to every single class you get perks! I would not take him again though; too much stress.

If you want to pass, you must read and participate in class. He highly regards class participation. He added 25 pts to our midterms for class participation and regular attendance. His digresses in his lecs but he's very thought provoking. Funny guy. Likes class discussion. 2 essays, a midterm and a final. You definitely gotta earn your grade.

The beginning of the semester I thought I was going to drop this class but the more I kept attending, the more interesting it got. I hate reading, but this was the one class I actually liked reading the textbooks for because it was interesting. He is a very smart professor, also I think his grading is fair.

I was terrified after the reviews left about this professor. However, I needed to take this class and it wasn't what people made it seem. Yes, it was a lot of work but it was interesting. I took it online and basically if you can follow instructions you'll be fine. If you are lazy and don't complete things you will fail just that simple.

Professor Ellis is pretty strict, but engaging if you put in the work. The reading-heavy course is challenging, but using Unstuck AI and the free textbook made it manageable. Definitely attend class and take notes.
