great teacher. funny and cheerful
Very interesting, fun, and a nice guy. He explains things in a very clear way. His test reviews are awesome. I would take another class from him any day.
I loved his class! He's such a nice guy! He kept me interested in history.
Awesome teacher, he loves what he does and it shows, his teaching style is easy to follow, and he understands that you have a life beyond class.
very easy......even easier if you read
Such a great teacher who is enthusiastic about his subject. I never liked history but he made class fun and I made an A. Just read your material and take notes; his tests aren't nit-picky at all. I absolutely recommend him- GREAT PROFESSOR
Great professor! Keeps a really good rapport with his student & is a lot of fun. Tests are not hard, as long as you pay attention (which is easy and actually fun to do in his class)! Definate recommendation for anyone who is going to take history!!
Wonderful professor, he goes out of his way to help you and he make learning history fun. He is definitely the type of professor you would want to take classes from. I was truly blessed to have had him.
great teacher, very enthusiastic! knows his history and only expects you to know the basic concepts not dates and locations and stuff, do the reading don't do it-its up to you. i didn't and still got an A-take his class.
Great Professor. Take Fissel whenever you can. He is a great guy and a great professor. He is straight forward on his tests and is not there to fail you. Go to class and listen to lectures and that is all you have to do to get an A or B.
great guy- never a dull moment in his class. He kept you interested in history and made you laugh through the boring stuff. Take him if you ever get a chance. tests were easy and took about 15 minutes a piece
Very interesting man, never a dull moment. Makes you want to show up to see what he'll do, but doesn't take attendence. Easy tests if you read or show up for notes. Learn basic concepts and not specifics. Fun guy!
This is a survey class not a class to get ready or history trivial persuit. Very interesting and he makes you think not just memorize. Demonstrative in his actions! If you take notes and do the reading then you can easily make an A+.
Most EXCELLANT history teacher I've ever had. I actually look forward to going to his class 3 days a week, even for 45 minutes or less
all you have to do is read what he tells you to and you should easily make an A. he's a cool teacher and i'd recommend him.

Great Teacher! Really cares about his students.
he is a wonderful teacher!!!! You know what is going to be on the tests, no suprises. He teaching method is awesome and keeps you interested. i actually look forward to his class.
He is a really good teacher. All of the tests were multiple choice. You have to read the material. He holds study sessions before the tests which help out a lot. He also gives study guides. Highly recommend
Helpful but confusing in lecture. He writes stuff all over of the board and talks about what he wishes he could teach. He hates late people though u are on time b/c u have 5 min. to come from next class. Tests are ok just come to class and study sessions. i got a B. He was too scatterbrained for me.
By far the easiest professor ever! I loved the fact that he always said he's gonna stop givin' study guides, and then he passes another one out. He's pretty funny, and one day, he came to class looking like someone out of the Sam Adams beer commercial(White Button-down shirt with vest and Jeans)!
HE is the coolest teacher ever, i loved goin to his class because he actually makes it interesting. he is hilarious and extremely nice. he doesn't like people being late and he hates cell phones. But i definately recommend him.. he's my favorite professor so far!
fissel puts the F in fine. so hot. great professor. i love him. strongly recommended
What to say, very into his area of expertice. very knowlegable. leans very much left of center. only drawback is that he does soooo much to advance his knowledge and learning, that at times it seems he doesnt have much time for in depth conversation or hashing out of topics outside of class.
Dr.Fissel was WONDERFUL! he tries to scare you the first day but he is so nice!he will always work with you.i am really bad about attendance but he makes you want to go to class. it is enjoyable.if you go to class, you can get away with just skimming the book. He really cares about his students! I will definitely take him again if i get the chance!

he was the best ever. i never read. all take notes and review for the tests. the tests are 20 questions and i always made a 100. no final. overall awsome guy. o, and if you get an 85 in the class he gives you an A bc there is no B+'s
Fantastic teacher! Hilarious and very friendly.
awesome professor! a lot of reading and a lot of studying but his tests come straight from lecture notes and the book. no trick questions. all in all, if i could i would take him again.

Professor Fissle is an awesome guy! He always goes over the tests and after you get used to him you'll pass with A's on all the tests! He's funny too! All of his tests and lechures are over concepts not individual dates and stuff. I would recommend him, just make sure you read!
Mark is an awesome prof. It doesn't matter what he's teaching, his enthusiasm for his job always shows. Seems a bit tacky on a first encounter, but stick w/ him, he is very entertaining. Always gives great feedback, and more than willing to go out of his way to help. Truly cares whether his students are successful. A real asset to ASU. Luv the guy.
Dr. Fissel is a good professor who actually is willing for students to come by his office and he will go over the notes with you. He also cares a lot about his students. If you can then get Dr. Fissel he is a very compassionate man.
He is really a great guy, and I would strongly recommend. If you do take his class make sure you give him the respect he deserves, he really appreciates that, because most students don't. Many students take advantage of the fact that you don't have to attend his class to do well, but Mr. fissel doesn't deserve to be disrespected like that.
Makes history fun, this is the first history class that i have never fallen asleep in. tests are easy. i highly recommend!
He was very fun and helpful!
LOVE THE GUY. HE IS VERY HELPFUL. DIDN'T LIKE HISTORY THAT MUCH UNTIL I TOOK HIS CLASS.
Love, love, love Dr. Fissel! What a great professor. His lectures are interesting and funny, he's really interested in helping his students learn, and he doesn't try to play tricks...if you do the readings, you'll make an A for sure! He doesn't take attendance, but it doesn't matter...you'll want to be there! I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
If you don't make an A in this class, you're an idiot. I didn't buy the books and only went to class about 1/2 the time and I made an A on every test. What he goes over in class...repeatedly...is what will be on the test. The tests are 20 questions...multiple choice. He's a good teacher...and very inthusiastic about the subject.
I heard a lot of bad things about him before the class but it was just to scare me. He is so interesting and will keep you laughing. His tests are so simple if you pay attention while he is talking. He really likes you if you answer questions in class. I wish I could take him again.
The best history professor I have ever had! He made this class extremely easy! He is very helpful & will pretty much do anything to help you pass. If your final grade is an 87 or higher he will bump it up to an A. He is awesome!
A great professor! He keeps class interesting, and wants to make sure you understand his points. More interested in big-picture concepts than minute details, which is why he's colored as "easy." Tests are all multiple choice. This guy genuinely cares about his students, and he wants you to do well.
He is a good teacher. He makes sure you understand the concepts. If you read the book ever now and then. You should pass. But this is very important. Come to class because most of the stuff that he repeats or writes on the board is on the test. He doesnt give extra credit, but you wont need it. Its a 20 question multiple choice test..no essay. Easy
How can you not love him! I didn't even care about History but now I just want to sit in on all his classes because he makes them fun and interesting. Need more like him. Take him, you won't regret it.
he was my favorite! i loved going to his class!! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! he's a great guy. you can tell he loves teaching and he does it very well. = )
He is HARD as can be! Who in the world would think this class is easy, unless you know your history? His first test was awful. The things he preached about in class wasnt even on there!! I cant wait to get out of this class. Is his second test is going to be like the first one--i am going to run away screaming.....
AWESOME! If you pay attention in class everything he discusses sets you up nicely for the test. His sort of black humor is rather enjoyable.
The absolute best history teacher to take. Mark Fissel rocks! He is enthusiastic, motivating, and enjoyable. Record his lectures and you will get an A too.
One of the best history teachers.Very helpful. He always wants to make sure you know the material for the exams. His class is also fun. I would definitely reccommend him.
Go to class, pay attention, read what he tells you to and you're guaranteed a B or better...5 tests, 20 questions, nothing else. Gave study guides out, but I think that was only because people were complaining.
He is a great teacher! He needs to give himself more credit. He is awesome and gives clear notes. He stays on topic and goes at a pace that everyone can follow. I loved this class. He is probably one of the best history teachers at ASU..I loved going to class just to hear his lectures. He is dedicated to his students and their education. LOVE HIM!
EXCELLENT!! I loved this class. He tries to seem "tough" on the first day of class, but he is very sweet and understanding to his students. If every teacher at ASU were like him, then every student would graduate with a degree. He is a good teacher simply because he cares about his students. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED HIM!!!!
My favorite professor at ASU. Tries to come off as a badass the first day of class (he's worth taking just to get his syllabus) but is exceedingly patient and an all-around great guy. Tests are always 20 of the most important concepts in a given section. Come to class, take notes, and you'll do great.
He's kinda boring and he goes off topic a whole lot. But, if you DO concentrate what's being focused on, you should get at least a B or better. Make sure you pay attention to his videos, because they'll be on the tests.
You take 5 tests, 20 questions, all multiple choice. If you come to class pay attention...PARTICIPATE and take notes you will pass!!! He is extremely cool and laid back!
Fissel is a very interesting professor. He is nice but has a sarcastic attitude that he likes to joke with. His class seems a little difficult at first but if you come to class and listen to his lectures his test become a lot easier. Do not interupt his lectures he will call on you like teachers did in high school. Over all he is a good teacher.
If you are an auditory learner then you should take him! His lectures are kind of all over the place. His tests are not like the study guides-regardless of what you hear. He is willing to help though.
i love his class. history is not a fun subject, but he made very interesting. he knows history front and back. he will help you if you have problems, he always think about students first. don't forget to read text and study. you will get an A without problem.
Dr. Fissel is absolutely awesome!! I am a history major so of couse I liked it, but he made it SOOOO much more fun!! Take him if you can!! He is a bit sarcastic, but it is totally a good thing!!!
Dr. Fissel is AMAZING! I hate hate hate history, but he kept me interested. Tests aren't a walk in the park but study guides help a lot. His lectures are kind of random, but listen because he gives you all the answers. I wish he taught 2112!
This professor is so much fun. He keeps history from being so dull and dry. He incorporates history into today's situations. He SWEARS! He is pretty funny to listen to. But best of all, he doesn't require you to show up to class every day. He told our class that you only need to come for the tests, which you have 5 of...NO OTHER WORK IN THE CLASS!
Hilarious. Great teacher and fun to talk to. He talks about slavery a lot, but that's kind of understandable. It just gets a bit old after a whole semester of it. other than that, he's a fantastic teacher who knows exactly what he's talking about.
one of the worst professors i have ever had
Dr. Fissel is an outstanding professor. He has a great sense of humor and keeps the class interesting. He's not too strict on attendance but it is better you go to class. We didn't have any essays, just 20 question mult. choice questions. Each test is equivalent (even the final) in terms of percent. He's a great guy and a great professor.
It was a very interesting class. You learn a good bit, but Fissel likes to keep his lessons centered around slavery. big time, i mean if there was a question on the test that you didnt know, its either the longest one or the one about slavery. Hes big on lecturing, chapter reviews r helpful, but look at what he specifies too.
He is a great professor. Gives study guides and notes on the board about what you mainly need to know. Study whatever he highlights in the book. He tends to repeat whats on the test, and attendance is not mandatory. Highly recommended. 5 test, all 20 questions each, multiple choice.
Amazing professor. I loved his class. His tests are easy if you study, and they're short too.
He is really great. He tries to scare you, but you realize real fast that that's not him. Just don't test him with the cell phone thing, he's serious. Test are easy if you pay attention. Great guy will work with you if you have scheduling issues with tests. TAKE HIM!!!
Professor is good. If you just study what he mentions in class and points out in the book you'll pass his class.
Dr. Fissel is so funny! He makes classes enjoyable. The tests aren't very hard because he teaches so well that he ingrains the important points in your head. If you want to have fun learning history and you want to get a good grade at the same time, TAKE HIM!
Very cool teacher. Makes history interesting and approaches teaching with humor. Very VERY easy tests. The Final isn't comprehensive and he basically hands you the answers to the tests when he goes over his study guides. If you pay attention at all during his class, you can pass. I never studied or even took notes and I have an A average.
Very helpful. Loves what he teaches! Tests are mutiple choice [The only grades you have are 5 exams all 20 questions: This includes final]. Overall, I would recommend him!
Doesn't make you memorize facts that you will never remember a year later..focuses on the main concepts. Gives study guides...but no matter what he says they DON'T cover every question that will be on the test. I recommend recording him on review days. Nice guy, helpfull, simple class.
Great.I give this guy an A+ as a history teacher. He is good, he really is. the only way you wont do well in his class is if you dont attend and refuse to read the material.
I hate history with a passion, but he made it interesting and fun. Read the chapters he assigns, and you will do great. He is also FUNNY!!!
I absolutely HATE history but I enjoyed this class. Fantastic teacher! Tells you from day one he's going to stick to the main concepts. You don't have to read the textbook to pass this class. Just pay attention and he'll hand you everything you need to make an A.
He is fun and entertaining. He has convinced hiself that he is going to take over the world.
Very funny guy. Lectures are easy to follow. Gives you study guides and will answer any questions you have about it. Study guides usually follow test! Asks you to read two extra books but only two questions about them on tests so not necessary. You can easily get an A in this class if you study the guide for like an hour.
Not worth it. Learned nothing. lectures are so rushed and the "study" guide is a waste of time... wish i had never taken this class...
Very nice guy and really works to help students understand the material. Just attend class and do the readings and it is an easy A.
Easy Prof! Attendance is not mandatory, but attending class helps you better for note taking. Notes are the tests and plus he gives study guides! 20 question tests that are on concepts! He is not out to trick you! He is very helpful and knows his stuff!!I recommend him!
Lectures get off subject and he never discusses main points or highlights. He goes over too much at once and you never know what's on the test. Study guide never relates. Barely passed. Only reccomend him if you're a big history buff. Nice guy, though.
Show up and pay attention and you'll get an A
Dr. Fissel is brilliant and interesting. Lots of room for personal expression and critical thinking in this class. Time was split among reading, watching films, and lecture. There were three in-class essay exams and he gave us the topics well in advance, so it was just a matter of personal preparation to do well.
Do not buy the book, you don't need it. Very easy teacher. The only time you should pay attention and take notes is the day before the test when he goes over the study guide, which is exactly what the test is over.
Great teacher. I don't like history one bit, but he made it interesting and fun. He is a great guy and I would take him for another class again. Absolutely love his teaching style!
Really Good professor! If you pay attention and come to class, you'll get an A. He does stray off topic but he keeps it interesting.
Awesome professor. Class was great and provides study guides. Basically pay attention, go to class and you will make an A.
First, you dont have to come to class, he doesnt give a crap about attendance. If you're good at history and you took AP US Hist in high school, you def. dont have to come to class lol. But this teacher is one of the best teachers ever. He loves his history and def. can get u going. Def. a captivating class. Test are easy. TAKE HIM!
TAKE HIM TAKE HIM TAKE HIM!!! He is so much fun!! He respects input and he makes history come alive!! You can get by without the book if you pay attention in class. He gives you a really good study guide before tests!! He is fair and wise! Can't recommend him enough!!
Awesome professor! Take him! If you come to class pay attention and do the study guide that he gives you then you have no excuse of making below a B. He is a hilarious character. Always had something funny to say.
If you're the kind of person who likes organization and power points that tell you exactly what you're learning about he is not the teacher to take. He has highlights in a book and he lectures about it. His test are not extremely hard if you pay attention and take notes. You can tell he loves what he teachers and he is a nice guy.
He is super easy to take! Just go to class everyday, listen to him and you'll do just fine!
Absolute favorite teacher ever. Tests you on general ideas instead of minor details so if you pay attention in class you’ll do great. He has a great personality and you’ll have no problem paying attention. I aced this class and literally never took the plastic wrapper off my book.
